Chapter one: New day, Same school

Darkness loomed the streets of Ponyville, the lampposts provided the streets with an eerie gloom, the once filled streets of this quiet town were now barren roads and paths, a pony with half a brain would think twice about treading the streets at night, but this wasn't the case. Out of the darkness walked one single pony, a dark pink coated mare with a bright green mane tied up in a bun, her features highlighted by the ominous glow of the street lights, her cutie mark was three rosebuds. The mare's pale azure eyes couldn't stay still, always checking behind herself and around her, a small breeze from a dark alleyway made the mare stop in her tracks as she froze with fear. A single voice called out forth from the silent night.

"Well, well, well, lookie what we got ere lad's" the voice belonged to a colt, worn and raspy he sounded.

From the alleyway came three colts, all of them wore black hoodies which covered all their face apart from their muzzle, The middle colt was obviously the leader of the gang, as he was the first to speak.

"Look at this fella's, a lonely mare, I think we should be proper gentlecolt's and escort this young mare from harms way" the same raspy voice but laced with sarcasm and evil.The other two colt's started chuckling menacingly as all three advanced on the mare.

The mare was too scared to speak, only letting out mutterings of nothing as she backed away, her once darting azure eyes were now shrunk to the size of pinball's, fear locked her leg's, ceasing her movement as she was surrounded by the three colt's.

"Once were through with you, you'll be begging too......." the second colt's words never had a chance to leave his mouth as an unknown object connected with his jaw, sending him to the ground.

The other two colt's stopped and looked at their now fallen companion, their courage in their plan turned to hell right before them, one of their companions was knocked clean out, and by what appeared to be a solid metal throwing disc in the shape of an "N". The leader tried to make a run for it, but was met by an unknown stallion.

The stallion was clad in a black cloak which covered his face and body, two pale blue eyes met the gangs leader's eyes as the stallion spun on his fore hooves, and kicking the thug in the face with his rear hooves, knocking him out too. All the while, the third thug and the lone mare watched in both terror and awe as this stallion just appeared out of nowhere and beat down two big colt's on his own.

In a blind panic, the third and final thug snatched the mare's saddlebags and made a mad gallop from the failed crime, as the thug turned the corner, his face was met with a blunt force, falling to the ground, the mare's saddlebag spills all it's contents onto the alleyway floor. There stood the stallion again, the thug was dazed as he tried to keep his focus in front of him as he laid on the floor.

"What the fuck are you?!" was all the thug managed to exclaim as the stallion knocks him out with one swift punch with his fore hoof.

The stunned mare hadn't even moved as all around her went to chaos, she snapped out of her trance as the mysterious stallion approached her.

"I'm terribly sorry madam for all the violence" the stallions voice was a deep booming voice, obviously not his natural voice but one to protect his persona, the stallion took the mare's saddlebag off his back and placed it back on the mare's back.

As the stallion went to leave, he felt a hoof on his back, "i didn't catch your name?" the mare said, obviously thankful for her rescuer and blushing a light crimson colour.

The stallion simply turned around, shrugged off the mare's hoof, "Me, I'm a silent protector, guardian of the citizens of Ponyville, i am simple Nopony" the stallion said as another mare popped out of nowhere behind the first one.

"Sorry but my aunt is behind you" Nopony said as his aunt suddenly appeared in a white tutu and started to tango with an avocado, then the sky turned a bright neon green and monkeys wearing diaper rained from the sky. As everything went from creepy to just plain wrong, a booming voice cracked through the sky.

"OI KNICK KNACK, WAKE UP!"

Everything went fuzzy and the world before Nopony turned to blackness.

Knick Knacks eyes opened groggily as he tried to comprehend what happened, he dreamed of being a superhero, again and everything turned into goddesses knows what. He was met with dark brown eyes which belonged to his little brother. His little brother was called Snowbreeze, he is a light blue pegasus with dark brown eyes, he has a short black mane and a short tail, he still has to earn his cutie mark(i tease him for it, so what sue me :P) .

"Get up Knick Knack, mum's gonna be mad if you miss your first day back" he increased his methods to wake Knick Knack up by jump on him. With a yelp, Knick Knack kicked him off the bed and booted him out of his room.

"Stupid git" Knick Knack moaned to himself as he grudgingly made his bed, Knick Knack was a light white earth pony, with a short scruffy brown mane with darker brown near the tips, his light blue eyes glistened as he looked at himself in the mirror, and then down to his cutie mark.

His cutie mark was a lone screwdriver, he had quite a Knack for fixing things and making them and could make stuff out of the bare essentials. Knick Knack threw on his saddlebag, which rattled with the sounds of numerous tools inside as he made his way downstairs. Knick Knack's house was quite simple, two couches in the living room, portrait of all the family above the fireplace along with two flags on either side of the photo, the one on the left was the flag of Trottingham and the second was of Cloplin, Knick Knack's families nationality is both Trottingham and Cloplin.

He was greeted by the presence of his mother sat at the dining table, eating a fruit salad, his mother's name is sunray, she is a pegasus with a dark blue coat and a long dull orange mane and tail, her cutie mark was of a cloud with a sun behind it.

"Good morning Knick, nice to see you've risen from your tomb" Sunray teased him as she ate a tomato.

"Yeah thanks mum, not much help from blank-flank up there" Knick Knack spoke with anger in his voice as he got an apple out of the fridge.

"Hey, don't tease him about that, you had the same problem like him as well Knick Knack!" Sunray scolded her sun as she gave him a stare that would turn a Cockatrice to stone.

"Well at least i got mine mum, remember that" Knick Knack said slyly as he glanced over to the clock. Nearly choking on his apple, Knick Knack dashed for the door whilst just managing to say goodbye.

Galloping as fast as he could, Knick Knack barely dodged several ponies as he rushed to get to school on time, outside the gates of Ponyville high stood three ponies, one unicorn, one pegasus and one earth pony, the unicorn had a light brown coat and a blonde scraggy mane, his green emerald eyes were shielded by a pair of black glasses and his cutie mark was of a green star surrounded by what seemed to be magical energy . The pegasus had a light green coat and a silvery grey mane, she wore some bright blue sunglasses and a pair of headphones, her cutie mark was of two snowflakes and the earth pony had a dull grey coat and a black short mane, his eyes were deep purple and his cutie mark was magic rune.

"Ah, here comes the missing piece to our puzzle" exclaimed the unicorn as he grabbed Knick Knack in a hug.

"Nice seeing you again man, have a good break?" asked the earth pony

Knick Knack broke the hug and all eye's fell on the pegasus, who hadn't noticed Knick Knack's arrival, the sound of music was coming quite loud from her headphones.

"I'm fine thanks Arcane" Knick Knack said to the earth pony, !and I see you've missed me quite a bit eh Stargazer" Knick Knack said to the unicorn. His attention turned to the pegasus who hadn't taken any notice of them. Knick Knack walked up to her and took off her headphones.

"Hey I was listenin to Th.." she didn't say a word when she noticed it was Knick Knack.

"Good to see you to Snowfall" Knick Knack spoke as he hugged her, "so have we missed the bell?" Knick Knack asked as he broke the hug.

"Well your lucky cause it hasn..." the bell rung, cutting off Stargazer, "never mind" he finished.

As Stargazer finished his words, they all walked into the school, beginning another year.

(Sorry guys if this is a crappy post, it's about half past one in the morning and it's my first ever fiction to be honest, oh and if anyone can do artwork, I'm in desperate need of a picture for this fic if anyone would be so kind? :))

Chapter 2: Old friends and New Friends

The day was going slow for Knick Knack, he received his new timetable along with his friends, on Mondays he had double maths, magical science and then a one hour lunch break, followed by literature. Tuesdays he had Physics, Physical education, one hour break and then followed by double art. On Wednesday he had Equestrian history, geography, one hour break and a double lesson of workshop. Thursday had physical education (P.E), chemistry, a one hour break and then Biology, and on Friday he had art, Linguistics, another one hour break and languages.

Thankfully it was a Wednesday as Knick Knack hated maths and preferred an easy lesson to sit through than twenty pages of mind numbingly boring equations, Knick Knack sat next to Stargazer as they got to choose where they could sit seeing as it was their first day back. All around Knick Knack were ponies that looked like they were bored out of their minds as the teacher droned on about Equestria's alliance with the griffins during the great war, the stale smell of chalk met Knick Knacks nose as the teacher levitated the chalk to the board, drawing a simple diagram of key points of what happened during the war. Stargazer was carefully jotting down notes as Knick Knack was doodling on his page.

"Psst....your gonna get in trouble!" Stargazer whispered to Knick Knack through his teeth, eyeing the teacher, seeing if he noticed him.

Knick Knack was to busy doodling when he didn't notice the teacher stood in front of him, a quick cough got his attention.

"And what is your name young colt?" asked the teacher, the teacher was a fairly skinny colt, with a slicked back Gray mane and a pale orange coat, a pair of small black spectacles delicately balanced at the tip of his nose.

Shocking Knick Knack, he quickly covered up his notebook, smiling sheepishly. "Uhh it's Knick Knack sir" Knick Knack quickly spoke as a small blush formed on his face due to embarrassment.

The teacher gave him an unamused look as he continued speaking, "so would you be able to tell the class what the date was when our troops stormed the beaches of Neighmandy?" the teacher asked.

Thankfully for Knick Knack, he remembered the date from the film *Saving Private Reign*, "I believe it was the 6th of June, 1944 actually" Knick Knack said smugly, watching the teachers expression change from one of content to one of embarrassment, having been outsmarted from a slacker.

"oh, well yes that...that was correct" the teacher said as a few giggles elicited from the rest of the class, the teacher turned back to the board, talking about the great war.

Stargazer turned to Knick Knack, what the hell was that?! you got away with not paying attention?" Stargazer asked astonished, even more with the fact that he even got the answer right. Knick Knack lifted his head from the desk and just said plainly, "thank movies eh?" Knick Knack slightly chuckling as he put his head down again.

*one boring hour later*

Knick Knack walked down the school hallway, alongside him walked Stargazer, they both had the almost exact same time table, apart from workshop, they trotted down the hallway groups of ponies cluttering up the hallway, most of them didn't even pay any attention to the pair as they ventured on. Just as they turned the corner, Knick Knack bumped into another pony, sending both of them and a load of paper everywhere, looking up from the floor, he say Stargazer laughing his ass off at Knick Knack but helping pick up some of the papers with his magic.

"I'm terribly sorry for my friend here, he doesn't watch where he walks" Stargazer said as he tried to apologise to the pony. Knick Knack was about to make a snide remark to Stargazer when he saw who he bumped into, it was a pale lavender mare, she had a darker purple mane and bright blue eyes, Knick Knack noticed she was a unicorn as well, her cutie mark was a book with a quill writing in it. Knick Knack just sat there with his mouth agape until Stargazer nudged him with his fore hoof.

Quickly Knick Knack stood at attention, as this mare just stared at him until laughing, "what's so funny??" Knick Knack asked as the mare pointed out, "one of my papers is stuck in your hair" the mare pointed out between giggles, feeling his hair with a hoof, Knick Knack pulled it out and held it out for the mare, his cheeks glowing redder by the second, Stargazer nudged Knick Knack again, knocking him out of his trance. "Knick name my is Knack" Knick Knack blurted out covering his face with a hoof, feeling even more idiotic than before, especially since getting some odd stares from pones around them.

The lavender mare just stared, blushing some more before clearing her throat, "don't worry, I know your name Knick Knack, i was sat at the other side of the room in history class, my name is Dawn Sparkle by the way" Dawn said as she held her hoof to Knick Knack, realising what to do, Knick Knack shook her hoof, a sheepish smile on his face.

"You said your last name was Sparkle? are you related to Twilight Sparkle by any chance, the mare who runs the town library?" Knick Knack asked as Stargazer shook Dawn's hoof.

"Why yes I am, she's my mother in fact" Dawn said as she carefully levitated her papers into her saddlebag, "well I'm sorry but i have to get going or I'll be late for magical history, bye you two" Dawn quickly spoke as she dashed off down the hall.

Knick Knack watched as Dawn went off down the hall, Knick Knack could have stood there for hours if it wasn't for Stargazer shaking him, "dude you don't know how to talk to mare's do you?" Stargazer remarked slyly as Knick Knack gave him a death stare. "I mean what was that all about, you looking like you saw a ghost and then messing up your words, you need help with the ladies man" Stargazer remarked as he imitated Knick Knacks face.

Knick Knack however stopped listening and all he could think about was Dawn, just the fact that one encounter made him fool up more than he flooded the toilets back in filly school as a prank, it wasn't nice.Snapping out of his daze, he saw Stargazer looking at him unimpressed, "lets just get to class before you pass out from gawking too much" Stargazer replied sarcastic like, as they trotted off.

*One Geography lesson later*

Knick Knack and Stargazer left there lesson, Knick Knack looked like he was going to fall asleep due to boredom whilst Stargazer looked exhilarated from their lesson, "that had to be the most boring lesson ever" Knick Knack exclaimed as they made there way to the cafeteria for their break.

"There'll be worse lessons to come Knick Knack" said Stargazer.

"There better not be" Knick Knack laughed as they made their way to the cafeteria.
