A Night On The Town

''I don't know guys, I was planning on getting through a lot of reading tonight,'' Twilight complained.

''Just like every other night,'' Trixie sneered in reply.

''It's not a request Twilight, it's a demand, your coming out with us to get hammered,'' Rainbow explained, folding her front hooves across her chest as she hovered above the unicorn, a saddlebag hanging from her back.

Twilight sighed and looked down at her book longingly. She thought back to a time when she was able to read books in peace, before her supposed 'mentor' suggested she go and make friends. Now she had no time to learn with all these demands. Some teacher she thought dryly to herself, choosing to ignore the fact that her friendship had saved Equestria numerous times over. Right now she wasn't in the mood for logic. She was sitting at her reading desk in the library, flanked on either side by a pushy blue unicorn and a blunt blue pegasus. The artistry of the scene did not make it any less irritating.

''What is it you want to do exactly?'' Twilight asked again.

''We're going to the club, you know, the only one in Ponyville? The one that you have somehow managed to never enter despite living here for nearly two years now,'' Rainbow replied, giving Twilight a look that seemed to resemble disgust.

''I just don't think I'd enjoy a place like that,'' Twilight responded weakly.

''How can you know if you've never tried it?'' Rainbow grinned.

''Because... I just don't think I would...''

''Hah! Has the all knowing Twilight been bested in a battle of logic?'' Trixie laughed

''I would have thought my marefriend is supposed to stand up for me when I'm being bullied?'' Twilight enquired, turning to the grinning azure unicorn.

''True, but I also stand up for fun, and in this case you're getting in the way of it,'' Trixie explained.

Twilight slammed her book closed in frustration. She then sighed, realising she was getting huffy over nothing. ''Fine, what's the plan then?''

''The plan is to get good and tipsy here first, then head to the club!'' Rainbow announced, alighting on the floor and producing two large bottles from her saddlebag.

''What are those?'' Twilight asked.

''This baby is a litre of sweet apple acres premium hard cider, a gift from Applejack,'' Rainbow explained, holding up an ornate brown glass bottle, the Apple Family's logo shaped into the glass. ''And this... is cheap vodka,'' she giggled, holding a clear glass containing an equally clear liquid.

Twilight eyed the two bottles. ''So, we're going to get drunk BEFORE going to the club?'' Twilight asked incredulously.

''Of course!'' Trixie jumped in. ''You can't expect us to spend all our bits in that place? The price for drinks in most clubs are extortionate."

''Then why bother with the club at all?'' Twilight asked.

''Well the fun part is to meet other drunk ponies!''

''But Trixie, didn't you call all the other ponies in this town hicks who aren't worth your time?'' Twilight retorted.

''Trixie ... I ... SILENCE!'' Trixie yelled, blushing at the memory of her harsh words. ''No more talking, drink!''

Twilight giggled at her marefriend. She always knew how to tie her boastful tongue. In truth Trixie had said that before returning to ponyville, but Twilight couldn't help bringing the comment back up.

''Hey, where'd Rainbow go?'' Twilight asked, looking around the library.

''I'm right here!'' the pegasus responded, gliding out from the kitchen, skilfully balancing three tall glasses between her two hooves. She floated over to the writing desk and placed them down.

''We'll start with the good stuff!'' she announced, removing the cap off the Sweet Apple Acres cider with her mouth and filling the three glasses. ''It'll make the vodka go down easier!''

The three mares then began to chat, enjoying the delicious cider and talking about everything and nothing. Twilight was surprised by the drink, it really was wonderful. It was sweet and sparkling, the fizzy bubbles tingling her tongue with each sip. The fluid left a pleasant warm feeling along her throat, and carried it through to her belly. She felt a delightful calmness by the end of the glass, and eagerly accepted a second. The sun began to set as the girls chatted, heralding the oncoming departure to the club.

''I guess we'll be leaving soon?'' Twilight asked, not feeling so hesitant after the ciders.

''No way! We've still got a couple hours until the place opens, and we haven't even cracked out the vodka yet!'' Rainbow replied excitedly. ''I'll warn ya though. this stuff isn't pretty!'' She unscrewed the cap from the bottole with her teeth. ''Hold out your glasses.''

Twilight and Trixie obeyed, extending out their empty glasses. Rainbow poured what seemed to Twilight a rather paltry amount into her tumbler. She eyed the small amount of fluid questioningly. ''Is that all?'' She asked.

''Clearly you have never tried vodka before my dear,'' Trixie observed. ''You need drink it in small amounts and fast, like this." Trixie knocked back the drink in one gulp, wincing slightly as the drink hit her mouth. ''The idea is to not taste it,'' Trixie explained.

Twilight was baffled. Why drink it if it's that bad? She shrugged and knocked back the drink anyway, her usual hesitance towards new things removed due to the cider's influence. She nearly choked when the so called 'drink' hit her throat.

''Gah! What did I just drink? Paint stripper?'' She yelled, gagging from the burning effect the horrid drink had left in her throat, her nose filled with its eye-wateringly sharp odour.

''It's probably not far from it,'' Rainbow giggled. ''This was like the cheapest stuff I could find!''

''Are you sure that stuff isn't lethal?'' Twilight gagged.

''Oh you are such an egghead,'' Trixie cooed, touching Twilight's face affectionatly. Twilight blushed at the contact and playful insult, turning to face her marefriend.

''Hey, none of that stuff until we get to the club please?'' Rainbow pleaded. ''Once I hook up with Pinkie you two can do whatever ya like.''

''Why isn't she here,'' Twilight asked.

''She's working late, she's gonna meet us at the place.''

''Fine, but I think I'll pass on the rest of that drink, you two ... enjoy it, if that's possible. I hope the club has some nicer drinks than that.'' The bookworm announced.

Rainbow rolled her eyes at her studious friend. ''Whatever, more drink for me!'' the pegasus announced happily. ''And Trixie of course, if she wants more.''

''Does an Ursa Minor live in a cave?'' Trixie replied enthusiastically.

''Umm... I dunno? What's that got to do with the drink?

''Its an expression Rainbow,'' Twilight giggled. ''Ursa's do live in caves, so since they do it means Trixie would like more drink as much as they live in caves."

Rainbow just looked dumbfounded at Twilight. She turned to the other unicorn.

''You want more booze or what?'' She asked Trixie.

''Please!'' Trixie replied simply, giggling.

Twilight observed as the two mares became increasingly less sober. She felt a little ill everytime the pair took another shot of the vile liquid, wondering how they could so happily ingest what was clearly pure poison. Although, she did have to admit she was enjoying the effects of the cider, but she couldn't stomach another taste of the cheap vodka. Eventually, Rainbow Dash raised herself shakily to her hooves.

''Letsh get going!'' She slurred, staggering to the front door.

''Woo yeah, let's party!'' Trixie agreed, throwing a hoof around Twilight's neck. Twilight staggered slightly as Trixie put a disproportionate amount of weight onto the relatively sober unicorn.

''Umm, you ok there Trix?'' Twilight asked.

''I'm great!'' she yelled. ''I'm heading out with my sexy marefriend ... what could be better?''

Twilight blushed at the compliment, half carrying Trixie to the front door. ''Well, do you think you could let some of your weight off your marefriend?'' Twilight requested.

''Oh shhure, sorry! I just love holding on to you! Everyone gets to shee the mare I bagged!'' Trixie said as she staggered to her own hooves. Twilight shook her head, giggling to herself. I hope you know what you're doing Rainbow she thought to herself.

''You two coming or what?'' the pegasus in question asked, standing by the open door. ''Get moving!''

The trio slowly made their way out of the library and towards the club, Twilight walking patiently as the other two swayed in

a narrow zig zag pattern to their destination. They arrived at the club eventually and staggered inside.

A thumping beat and blinding lights assaulted Twilight as she entered the establishment. Once inside the door movement was difficult as a crowd of ponies shuffled around holding various drinks and yelling conversations at each other.

"To the bar!" Trixie yelled, pulling Twilight with her.

"Ahm gonna go look for Pinkie!" Rainbow yelled to the pair before staggering off by herself.

Trixie haphazardly shoved her way through the crowd to the bar where she slammed a hoof down on the table to attract the attention of the barpony.

"Get Trixie a cider!" she yelled over the music. Twilight shook her head, feeling dizzy from the loud music, bright lights and stuffy atmosphere. It was truly not her scene. She squeezed her way up to Trixie.

"Umm Trixie, do you really think you ned another drink?"

"Of course! You need one too! Barkeep! Make that two ciders!"

"Trixie I don't need-"

Twilight's retort was cut short by a sloppy kiss from Trixie. She soon forgot what she was complaining about as she wrapped her hooves around the mare's waist. Two mugs of cider sat waiting for them when they finished.

"Drink up!" Trixie instructed, taking a healthy swig from the mug. Twilight obliged, enjoying the drink but noting how it pailed in comparison to the Sweet Apple Acres special brand. Still, it beat the vodka in spades.

After a few moments of drinking Twilight noticed Trixie staring into her drink.

"Trixie are you-"

"You think you're sho shmart ... Phrinshes's peht" Trixie interrupted, jabbing a hoof angrily into Twilight's chest. "Well here's something I've wanted to say to you for a long time ..." Trixie suddenly lost the angry look in her eyes, which grew wide and pleading as she grabbed Twilight's shoulders. "Am I a good performer?" Twilight rolled her eyes in response.

"Trixie ... I think you've had a little too much to drink. Maybe I should bring you home to bed"

"Oh yay bed!" Trixie yelled happily in response. "That's where we bang!"

"What!? No! You're going home to sleep!" Twilight yelled blushing, hoping the loud music drowned out the outburst.

"Uh huh! Sleep with my Twilight!"

Twilight sighed and grabbed Trixie around the neck with a hoof, pulling her away from the bar. Better find Rainbow and Pinkie and let them know we're going.

Despite the crowd she didn't have to look far to see Pinkie's bright pink coat. She was dancing with Rainbow, hooves wrapped around her marefriend.

"Hey guy's we're leaving," Twilight yelled over the music.

"But we just got here!" Rainbow complained.

"You got Trixie far too drunk Rainbow!" Twilight laughed. "You guys have fun, we're going."

"Yeah, me and Twi are going home to bang!" Trixie announced happily.

Twilight blushed furiously as Pinkie and Rainbow laughed at the announcement. She grabbed Trixie and ran.

On the journey Twilight had to support a wobbly Trixie who would not stop yelling about what they were supposedly going to do in bed once they got home. Twilight just ignored her, hoping that anyone who heard did the same.

She was overjoyed when they finally reached the front door of the library. She pushed it open eagerly, ushering the drunken mare inside. Twilight left Trixie wobbling on the ground floor while she dashed into the kitchen. She emerged levitating a glass of water.

"Drink this," Twilight ordered Trixie, hovering the drink before her mouth. Trixie gulped it down thirstily.

"Now, bed!" Twilight ordered, ushering her upstairs. Trixe slumped in the bed like a sack of bricks. Twilight crawled in beside her, turning out the light's with her magic. She closed her eyes, happy to escape the exhaustion of the night. Unfortunatly, Trixie had other plans.

Twilight felt hooves wrap around her torso in the dark. She could just make out Trixie's sillhouete in the dim moonlight from the window. She mounted herself over Twilight, standing above her and looking down.

"Trixie is going to show Twilight *yawn* the time of her ... *zzz*," with that, Trixie slumped down on top of Twilight, falling instantly to sleep. Twilight giggled to herself, rolling the mare over and cradling her head into her chest.

"Someone's going to have a great and powerful headache in the morning," she whispered softly, kissing her lover on the forehead.

Horn Sensitivity

Twilight's eyes darted back and forth across the page, her mind absorbing the new information as she gleaned it from the textbook. The initial embarrassment of what she was reading had long been drowned out by the sheer elation of learning something new, the hesitance replaced by keen interest. Curiosity had made her read on, and she had convinced herself that a true scholar was not averse of any form of new information.

"Twilight?''

This theory however did not prevent her from leaping in surprise at the sound of a voice calling her name. She quickly spun around, standing on her hind legs and leaning back against the reading table to obscure the book. In front of her stood an azure unicorn looking inquisitively in her direction. She tried to act calm, but a deep blush betrayed her.

"What's the matter Twi? Reading something naughty are we?" Trixie cooed, enjoying the adorable red tint on her companions cheeks.

"No no, its nothing like that ...." Twilight responded quickly, avoiding eye contact. "It's purely scientific! It's just that the chapter I'm on is a little ... embarrassing."

"Oh?" Trixie grinned. "What's it about?"

Twilight glanced over her shoulder at the book as if she hoped the volume would speak up and explain itself to save her the trouble.

"It's about ... horn sensitivity," Twilight finally admitted.

Trixie raised a hoof to her mouth to stifle a laugh, genuinely trying to be supportive of her innocent little bookworm.

"It's really quite interesting," Twilight continued, trying to shake the awkwardness of the conversation. She turned back to he book. "For example, did you know Trixie that if a unicorn's horn is ... stimulated in the right way, it can cause almost complete paralysis due to the endorphins released?"

"Well actually yes, Trixie did know this," the showpony replied from behind. Though if Twilight heard this she ignored it, having gained steam and entering lecture mode.

"And did you know that due to their magical receptive properties, horns can pick up other signals too! They can sometimes even ... oooh ... ahhh ...." Twilight's teaching was cut suddenly short as she felt a hoof brush gingerly along her horn, and felt the warmth of Trixie's body lower itself onto her back.

"Trixie know's plenty about horn sensitivity," she explained in a breathy voice close to Twilight's ear. "Haven't you ever had a horn rub before darling?"

Twilight was finding it extremely difficult to focus her thoughts as Trixie ran her hoof along her horn. The hoof was making as little possible contact with the horn whilst still touching it. The sensation was akin to a feather being lightly hovered over her skin, although the result of it was far more intense. With each motion a tingling shot down from her horn and throughout her body, making her legs feel weaker with each passing second.

"I've ... I've had a horn file a few times b-but ... it never felt like t-this ...." Twilight stammered in response, struggling to take control of her vocal cords as the sensations spread throughout her body, leaving a warm feeling behind wherever the tingling travelled to. Her usually purple face was most likely now a complete shade of red as she blushed heavily from the new sensations.

Trixie made a dissaproving clicking sound with her tongue. "Of course it wouldn't. Those spa ponies are too rough with those files. The secret is to apply as little pressure as possible," she explained as she continued her work, absolutely delighted with herself over how she was making the bashful unicorn feel. She grinned happily as she heard Twilight emit a soft moan as she ran her hoof over the horn again.

"T-Trixie ... I think I'm g-gonna ...." Twilight tried to warn as her legs began shaking visibly. "F-fall."

Trixie quickly grabbed her marefriend arouned the waist just in time as Twilight's knees buckled. She gently lowered the paralyzed unicorn onto the floor, Twilight's legs flopped uselessly out in front of and behind her, leaving her sprawled belly-down on the floor, a shocked expression on her face.

"I c-can't m-move," Twilight muttered.

"Oh don't worry Twilight," Trixie giggled. "The book says the paralysis only lasts a few moments."

Twilight released what seemed to be a sigh of relief.

"Unless ...." Trixie continued, "the unicorn in question has not experienced it before, in which case it can last up to ten minutes!" Trixie laughed as she read the passage aloud. A look of horror entered Twilight's eyes.

"Hmmm, ten whole minutes," Trixie spoke in a pondering tone. "What to do? SPIIIIIIKE!"

The summoned dragon appeared from the basement at the sound of his name.

"What's up?" he asked. He then spotted the paralyzed Twilight. "Oh my gosh is she ok?!" he yelled.

"She's fine," Trixie assured the dragon. "It was just an ... experiment," Trixie grinned, looking down at the immobilised unicorn. "But she's going to be inactive for at least ten minutes, you know what that means!"

Spike's eyes lit up. "ICE CREAM!" he yelled, sprinting into the library kitchen, Trixie running after him.

"No ... stomach ... ache," Twilight mumbled helplessly into the floor.

Wrapping Up Winter

"Come on Trixie get up!" Twilight yelled, levitating the blankets off the defiant mare.

"NO!" Trixie screamed as she clutched desperately to the floating covers. "Trixie is not getting out of her warm bed to go and shovel snow!"

"But Trixie it's tradition. You're a resident of Ponyville now so you're a part of winter wrap up!"

"It's ridiculous! Not using magic to clear the snow, Trixie will not be a part of such nonsense! Also, I get enough of you bossing me around here, I'm not going to go do it in the snow 'all team organiser'," Trixie spoke Twilight's title mockingly.

"Ughh, fine!" Twilight groaned, releasing her magical hold on the duvet. "Be lazy! But see if you ever get me to wear those socks you like again!"

"Oh yeah?!" Trixie cried back as she wrapped herself back up in the warmth of the blanket. "Well see if I ever wear the hat and cape to bed again!"

Twilight bit her lip at the threat. I love that hat and cape! she thought forlornly. No! I won't let her win! "Fine! See if I care!" she yelled back, storming out of the room.

"Be sure not to catch a cold out there!" Trixie yelled teasingly as the bedroom door slammed shut behind Twilight. "Silly ponies, shoveling snow with their hooves ...." Trixie mumbled to herself as she curled up in the sheets.

*

"Honestly Spike, I just don't know what to do with her sometimes," Twilight complained as she walked along the path to the library, the ground recently cleared of snow.

"Don't let her get to you Twi, It's just the way Trixie is. Heck you should know her better than anypony by now," Spike responded.

"I know Spike, but I really just wanted to share the event with her," Twilight explained, sighing. "I suppose I can't expect her to like everything I do."

The pair entered the library, escaping the still chilly air of the recently wrapped up winter. Twilight glanced around the foyer, noticing it was still in the exact same condition as she left it.

"I don't believe it!" Twilight yelled, removing her green and blue all team organiser vest and running upstairs to the bedroom. Upon reaching the door she threw it open.

"Trixie! Are you seriously still in bed?" she demanded, approaching the blanket covered lump. " It's almost 6pm, how can you be so-"

"Uhhhhh ...." a pained groan greeted Twilight, followed by a sickly looking head rolling in her direction. "Is that you ... Twilight?" Trixie asked hoarsely, coughing as she struggled to finish the sentence.

"Yeah ... wow Trixie, you don't look so good," Twilight observed, placing a hoof to the mares forehead. Her eyes widened as she felt the intense heat emanating from Trixie's skin. "Oh my, you're really burning up, looks like you've come down with a bad flu." For a moment Twilight's face was filled with concern, until she remembered Trixie's earlier comment, upon which a sly grin formed at the corners of her lips.

"Trixie, how is it you managed to get sick here in the warmth of your bed while I was out in the snow?" Twilight teased, giggling. "I'd say that's your best magic trick yet!"

"I ... hate ... you," Trixie wheezed back, spluttering.

Twilight only laughed in response as she fetched a thermometer from a nearby drawer, placing it into Trixie's mouth. "Ok Trixie, I'll go get something to make you feel better, but first we need to get that fever down." Twilight turned to the nearby window and opened it wide, allowing the cool pre-spring air to flow into the room. She then levitated the blankets halfway off Trixie so as to expose most of her upper body to the cool breeze. Trixie was too weak to retaliate in any way.

"Now you just stay put like that and cool off, I'll be back soon!" Twilight ordered as she left the room. "Oh and I'll get Spike to send up an ice pack for you." Trixie groaned something unintelligible to Twilight. She looked back with an expression of empathy for the sick mare before leaving the room.

*

Twilight arrived back to Trixie a while later carrying a satchel brimming with healing remedies. The sick pony had recieved the ice pack, which was now resting on her forehead, the thermometer still lay in her mouth. Twilight walked over to observe the instrument.

"Looks like you've cooled down Trixie, how do you feel?" she enquired as she removed the thermometer from her mouth.

"C-c-cold," she responded, teeth chattering.

"Good, I'll just take this off you," Twilight said as she removed the ice-pack. "Now I've got a few things here for you to take." Twilight levitated a dark brown bottle and a plastic spoon out of the bag. She carefully poured enough liquid to fill the spoon and hovered it in front of Trixie.

"Open wide!" Twilight giggled, finding it difficult not to enjoy treating Trixie like a little filly. Trixie glared angrily, but followed the order. She swallowed the liquid and immediatly donned a look of disgust.

"Ughhhh, that tastes vile!" Trixie yelled, hanging her tongue out to try escape the unpleasant flavour.

"Stop being such a baby Trixie," Twilight laughed again, producing some pills from the bag.

"I swear Twilight, once I'm back up and moving again-."

"Shush now," Twilight interrupted smiling, ignoring the threat and gaining another vicious glare from Trixie. "Take this, it'll help with any pain." She levitated a large pill to Trixie along with a glass of water.

"I'm supposed to swallow that!? It's huge!" Trixie exclaimed. Twilight smiled, she couldn't help but find the ponies immaturity adorable. "D'awww is the tablet to big for ickle baby Trixie?" she cooed.

"You're so dead when I can move again," Trixie croaked. She then swallowed the tablet with a grimace. "You better hope these painkillers don't work too well."

Twilight giggled again. "Well it's getting pretty late, I'm going to head to bed downstairs Trixie,Twilight explained. Trixie's face suddenly adopted a look of shock.

"You're not sleeping here tonight?" Trixie asked in a worried tone.

"Well I don't want to get sick too Trixie. If I get in bed with you I'll most likely catch whatever you have." Trixie's lips pouted and her eyes grew wide.

"But I can't sleep without my Twilight!" she claimed miserably.

"You've managed it your whole life up until you met me," Twilight rebutted.

"Are you really going to leave me when I need you most?" Trixie cried, raising her hooves weakly for emphasis.

Twilight snickered at the mare's dramatics. "I'm just going to be downstairs Trix-," she interrupted herself with a sigh as she gazed at her marefriends despondant face, her bedmane everywhere and her two front hooves stretched out longingly, it was terribly cute. Twilight knew well the stage-experienced pony was putting on a show, but it worked.

"Alright Trixie I'll pull out the guest bed and sleep in here, but I am not getting into the same bed with you. You'll be breathing your sickness all over me," Twilight explained as she began to prepare the bed.

"I suppose that will have to do," Trixie smiled, pleased with her small victory.

*

Twilight awoke in the dead of night in the dark bedroom. The moon was covered in clouds and provided little illumination through the window. Although unable to see, she could feel a strange comforting warmth on her back and around her waist. Still half asleep she cuddled closer into it, finding that it grew tighter around her in response. She let out a satisfied sigh as she snuggled up against the cozy object. In the process her brain awakened a little more, and a sudden horrid realisation entered her mind. Her eyes grew wide, and she rolled around to find herself face to face with Trixie.

"Gah!" she yelled in shock, leaping out of Trixie's arms. The slumbering azure pony stirred at the sudden outburst.

"Huh, whah-," the show pony mumbled.

"Trixie?! What do you think you're doing?!" Twilight screamed.

"Sleeping?" Trixie responded, rubbing her eyes with her hooves.

"Why are you in this bed?" Twilight demanded, still yelling.

"Woah quiet down my head is pounding," Trixie pleaded. "What's the problem?" she asked, genuinly confused.

"Why did you get in bed with me when I specifically got into this bed to avoid you breathing your germs all over me?"

Trixie looked around herself as her eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness of the room. She had indeed swapped beds, the blankets on the empty bed were folded over, marking her departure.

"Woops, must have sleep-walked over here, guess I really can't sleep without you," she laughed, grinning innocently. Twilight however did not appreciate the humour of the situation.

"Ughh, get out of the bed Trixie, I better not be sick in the morning after this!"

"Alright jeez," Trixie grumbled as she hopped out of bed. "I thought it was a cute gesture."

"Nothing cute about being sick Trixie," Twilight replied, throwing her head back onto her pillow.

*

Twilight stretched and yawned as she woke, taking a mental check of her physical well-being. Throat feels fine, no headache, I'm not burning up. Looks like I'm fine despite Trixie's 'sleepwalking' she thought happily to herself. Her mood deflated slightly upon seeing the extremely unsettling look that was being directed towards her across the room from a blue pony sitting propped up against her pillow, forehooves crossed.

"Er, morning Trixie ...." Twilight greeted, at a slight loss for words due to the piercing glare she was recieving. "How are you feeling?"

Trixie continued to stare for a few moments before answering, never removing her gaze on Twilight's eyes. "Oh I'm feeling pretty good this morning Twilight. Pre-tt-y good," she replied eventually, putting strange emphasis on her final two words.

"Umm, that's good!" Twilight replied, grinning nervously at the strange atmosphere in the room. "Why don't I just go get some breakfast ready?" Twilight hopped out of the bed and made her way to the door, only to find it magically sealed shut.

"Umm Trixie, what are you-," Twilight's enquiry was cut short as she turned to find herself nuzzle to nuzzle with Trixie, her bright purple eyes matching Twilight's.

"You're not going anywhere Twilight," she announced. "Ickle baby Trixie huh?" she mimicked Twilight's mocking tone from the night before, walking towards Twilight and causing her to back up against the door.

"Oh come on Trixie you're not still mad about that are you? I was only kidding."

"We'll see who's ickle," Trixie continued, ignoring Twilight. "On the bed, now."

Princess's Pet

"Twilight, you got a letter from your school back in Canterlot!" a purple dragon announced, dashing upstairs from the basement.

"Oh, could you read it out for me? I'm a little busy- oh not there Trixie!" Twilight responded without turning to Spike, organising a mass of various books with her magic. Trixie was also 'helping' which meant she was throwing the books on to random shelves, which Twilight had to then organise afterwards.

"Sure thing Twi," Spike responded, clearing his throat.

"Dear Twilight sparkle, your presence is requested in Canterlot tomorrow for an annual evaluation of your magical studies. The exam will be presided over by members of the board of Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns including the royal Princess Celestia herself. You will be required to stay overnight in Canterlot for the exam as your presence will be required the following morning to recieve your results. The gracious Princess has provided a room for yourself and one guest if you so wish to bring one. Yours Sincerely, Celestia's School For Gifted Unicorns."

"Ah, I've been waiting for that letter for weeks now!" Twilight said to nopony in particular.

"Aren't you nervous? It's an exam," Spike asked.

"Oh it's only a magic evaluation. I've done tons of these now, they used to get me quite anxious but they have always gone  well so I'm quite confident with them," Twilight explained, never stopping her arrangement of books.

Trixie on the other hand had stopped moments ago upon hearing the contents of the letter. "So the princess herself is going to be there?" she asked, sounding oddly nervous.

"Oh yes, she's always at my evaluations. It'll be good to see her again, it's been a while!"

Trixie's face took on an expression of discomfort at these words, and she lowered her head to try hide her disdain. Luckily Twilight was too distracted with the thoughts of seeing her mentor to notice. She continued ranting on about Celestia, how she had so much to talk about since the wedding of her brother, the last time they had met in person. Trixie got more and more irritated with each passing second, until she eventually cut in to her rant.

"Trixie would like to accompany you to Canterlot," she announced suddenly.

Twilight was silenced by the request, donning a look of surprise. Trixie rarely showed an interest in Twilight's more studious activities.

"You do?" Twilight asked incredulously. "I'd imagine you would be quite bored Trixie, I'll be busy for most of the time we're there."

"Oh Trixie is sure she can entertain herself in Canterlot. The city is not foreign to her."

"Alright, if you really want to come I'd be glad to have you with me Trix!" Twilight smiled, both confused and pleased with Trixie's offer. "I need to make some preperations. "If you two will excuse me!" Twilight dashed upstairs to her bedroom to pack.

*

Trixie was strangely silent on the train trip to Canterlot the next day. Whenever Twilight enquired if something was bothering her, she shrugged it off and said she was fine. Twilight new better, but she also knew better than to push Trixie when she was in one of these moods, as it usually only ended up making her more irritated, so she left the quiet unicorn to her thoughts and turned her own attention to some revisionary material for the exam, not that she really needed to as she knew the required spells like the back of her hoof by now.

The pair departed the train upon its arrival in Canterlot station, greeted by the pristine tall and white buildings of the regal city shining in the bright sunlight. Throngs of well dressed ponies bustled to and fro. Twilight smiled at the sight, always happy to see home again. Trixie on the other hand still looked miserable.

"Now Trixie, you'll be polite when we meet the princess right? I want her to have a good impression of you."

"Sure, sure," Trixie responded absently, waving a hoof. Twilight wasn't convinced, but decided not to press the issue. What's up with her? she thought with concern, and why did she want to come here if she was going to be like this?

They walked together to the castle mostly in silence. Twilight wrapped her tail in Trixie's as an offering of comfort, who took it in her own and leaned her head lightly on Twilight's shoulder as they walked. Twilight took this as a positive sign. She'll talk to me when she is ready she decided in her head.

Upon reaching the castle the pair were greeted by the palace guards, the large armored stallions greeting Twilight by name. She responded with a cheerful hello and led Trixie inside.

Trixie forgot her bad mood for a few moments as she was stunned by the fantastic interior of the princess's castle. Its sky high ceilings, arched windows, plush carpets and beautiful royal colour scheme took her breath away. She absently trailed behind Twilight as she inspected the regal interior design. She was eventually snapped out of her reverie by a soft yet powerful voice.

"It's good to see you my faithful student."

Trixie looked up to see the tall figure of the princess of the sun standing in front of them, looking ever graceful, her multi-coloured mane shimmering and swaying in a non-existant breeze.

She could feel bile rising in her throat at the sight.

"It's so good to see you Princess!" Twilight greeted enthusiastically, running over to share and affectionate nuzzle with her mentor. Trixie could only stare at the ground during the exchange.

"And this must be Trixie Lulamoon," Celestia observed the uncomfortable looking unicorn as Twilight strolled back to her side. "It's nice to meet you Trixie."

Trixie continued to stare at the floor, ignoring the princess. Twilight's face donned a nervous look, and she prodded the mare with an elbow.

"Nice- nice to meet you princess," Trixie spoke begrudgingly, followed by a half-hearted bow. She never looked up at the princess during the process. Twilight's stomach was a knot of tension.

"Er- Trixie, I have to go with the princess now. I'll see you later in our room ok?" Twilight explained, half concerned but also half anxious to escape the tension of the situation.

"See you later Twilight," Trixie responded dejectedly, turning and walking out of the castle, her head still hung low.

*

Twilight's head was racing upon her return to her room in the castle. How could Trixie act so rude in front of the princess? Why did she ask to come if she was just going to be so inconsiderate. She knows how much the princess means to me! Her mind had been fuming due to Trixie's behaviour since the exam finished, and it had built to a crescendo. The exam itself had been long and exhausting, but it had gone fine as she expected. The cool night air ran through her mane, the white marble steps that wound thier way up to her chambers glowed bright in the illumination of a full moon. What would have been a lovely night was shrouded in the gloom of Twilight's angry mind. She almost shattered the door to the bedroom when she threw it open, startling the blue unicorn who was lying on the rooms large four poster bed.

"Trixie, what is your problem?!" she yelled upon entering the room. Trixie leapt off the bed and opened her mouth to speak, only to be drowned out by Twilight's continued shouting. "You asked me to bring you here today and you couldn't have been more rude to the princess. What were you trying to pull."

"Don't shout at me princess's pet!" Trixie responded angrily. "Do you have any idea how unbearable your attitude is around Celestia? 'Oh Princess its soooo good to see you'," Trixie mocked in a whiny voice. "It's even worse than when I have to constantly listen to you ramble on about her at home."

"Why are you getting so mad over this, so I talk about Celestia a bit ...." Twilight responded defensively.

"No, you talk about her all the time. Hardly a day goes by that you don't mention her. You even go on about how beautiful she is! I can only imagine all the twisted little fantasies you had, and probably still do have about her!"

That last comment hit hard, because it was true. Twilight had dreamed many a time about her and Celestia in more than platonic circumstances. It had always been something she kept to herself. She had always been quite shy in the area of love to begin with, and the thought of telling anypony that she felt that way about the ruler of Equestria was too embarrassing to ever admit. She had always felt deeply confused by it, and Trixie's rant had struck a sore nerve. She felt a lump in her throat, and a rush of pressure to her eyes. She could not hold back the tears.

"How can you be so cruel Trixie?" Twilight managed to splutter before the tears began to flow freely. She turned and bolted out of the room, crying loudly as she went.

Princess Luna gazed lovingly into the clear, star-filled night sky. Her ancient friends winked brightly at her, and the moon beamed it's luminous glow through her perpetually flowing mane, causing it to twinkle and glow in it's presence. She smiled, happy to see her beautiful night through her own eyes, still deeply appreciative of being able to feel the living earth beneath her with her own hooves. She sat basking in the perfect scenery, surrounded by the aromatic flowers of the palace gardens, until a sound pierced the absolute serenity of the night.

It was a subtle noise, only audible due to the perfect silence of the palace's gardens at night, but it was unmistakable. A low sobbing, followed my sniffling. Some pony was crying in her garden, in the middle of the night! Luna's ears perked up at the strange sound, and she followed it to the source. She was shocked by what she discovered there.

Laying down with her head in her hooves, sobbing fiercely was none other than Twilight Sparkle, one of the very ponies responsible for the fact that Luna was able to enjoy this perfect night, and she was crying! Luna could not bear the sight.

"Twilight Sparkle!" Luna spoke a little more loudly than she intended, the surprise of the situation causing her to forget to observe the volume of her voice. It caused Twilight to recoil a little in surprise.

"Oh P-Princess Luna," Twilight managed between sniffling and recovering from her surprise arrival.

"I apologise if I started you Twilight Sparkle, it was not my intention," Luna responded in a much lower voice. "You are crying, may I ask what is the matter?"

Twilight sniffed again and looked up at the princess of the night. Her face was filled with genuine concern. She felt oddly comfortable around Luna, perhaps a result of helping the princess herself fit in with the modern world. She saw no issue with sharing her problems with her.

"It's ... it's Trixie," Twilight began, rubbing her damp eyes with a hoof.

"Trixie is the unicorn you arrived here with correct?"

"Yeah we're well ... we're in a relationship together you see. I really like her but, she said some really horrible things tonight."

"I would be very willing to listen if you wish to share."

So Twilight regaled the entire tale of the last day to Luna, describing how Trixie requested to come here herself, her rudeness to the princess and the nasty words they shared only minutes ago. She told Luna how confused she was that Trixie wanted to accompany her only to act so horribly. When Twilight finished re-counting the events she looked up at Luna who, for some bizzare reason ... smiled!

"Oh Twilight Sparkle, you are so lucky!"

Twilight's head spun. She looked incredulously at Luna. Maybe a thousand years on the moon has made her loopy she thought. "E-excuse me princess, lucky? Did you listen to what I just told you?"

Luna chuckled lightly in response. "Tell me Twilight, is Trixie the kind of pony who is in touch with her emotions?"

Twilight still looked quizzically at the princess, but decided to answer the question to see where if the princess's bizzare train of thought had a logical conclusion.

"Well ... she does have trouble expressing herself," Twilight explained.

"Mmhmm, and how does she usually act when she is upset about something?"

"Well ... she tends to either pretend nothing is wrong if you ask her, or she will act really irritable."

"That sounds quite a bit like what you explained to me about her behaviour today, but the difference here is that she really lashed out at you."

"She did, I've never seen her act so horrible ...."

"And why do you think that is?"

"She must be really upset about something."

"Yes, and I believe I know what it is. She is scared Twilight."

"Scared?"

"Yes, she is scared of losing you, to my sister."

The words hit Twilight like a brick, knocking sense into her confused mind.

"She's jealous of Celestia ...."

"Not just jealous Twilight Sparkle. Only a pony who loves you so deeply would get so upset over some compitition. I believe Trixie would do anything to have you keep her, but how can she possibly compete with the princess of the sun? The ruler of all Equestria? I imagine she see's it as a battle that she could never win. She's terrified Twilight, and in my experience ponies who are not in touch with their emotions tend to lash out when fear grips them. I believe that is what Trixie did tonight. You are lucky Twilight Sparkle, you are with a pony who cares deeply for you, only she needs some help expressing it."

Twilight was taken aback by Luna's incredible wisdom. It made so much sense. It felt as though Luna knew Trixie better than she did. Twilight forgot that Luna would indeed have decades of wisdom from before she was sent to the moon. Twilight even felt a pang of guilt that she could not recognise the behaviour in her marefriend. It seemed so obvious now.

"Wow Luna I- I think you're right," Twilight responded, her mood lifting. "You're so wise princess, thank you so much!" Twilight jumped up and embraced Luna in a tight hug. Luna hesitated, feeling slightly awkward at the sudden social contact, still adjusting to life back on the ground. Eventually she calmed, and put a re-assuring hoof around Twilight's back.

"Anytime Twilight Sparkle. I owe you a great debt after all."

*

Trixie lay on the bed with her head buried in her hooves. You suck Trixie, she mentally berated herself. Some marefriend you are. It's a wonder Twilight hasn't told you to get lost long ago. She sat on the bed stewing silently in her own self-loathing when the bedroom door suddenly swung open, revealing the unicorn she loved.

"Oh Twilight!" Trixie jumped of the bed. "I'm so sorry!" She dashed over to the purple mare and wrapped her hooves around her.

"It's ok Trixie, I know you are," Twilight said softly, placing a hoof around her. She gently stroked Trixie's mane. "But we need to discuss something. I know why you acted like you did."

"You do?" Trixie looked up into Twilight's stunning violet eyes.

Twilight took Trixie's face in a hoof. "Listen to me Trixie. It's true that I have a close relationship with the princess. She's a role model for me and my mentor. She has thought me so much and is responsible for shaping me into the pony I am today. I deeply respect her, but I chose you Trixie. I did not choose to become Celestia's understudy, I simply accepted it. I did not choose to go to her school, I was offered it and I took it. It may be incorrect to say I chose to fall in love with you Trixie, but I did choose to explore it with you. You can't keep worrying about what might happen."

Trixie's eyes had welled up during Twilight's speech, and tears were flowing by the end of it. "I- I love you so much Twilight," she sobbed into Twilight's shoulder.

"I know Trixie, I love you too."

"But you don't know Twilight, I love you so much it scares me. What would I do if I lost you?" she looked back up at her.

"You would survive Trixie, I know you would, but like I said you just can't go on thinking like that, expecting every terrible possibility."

"How did I get so lucky to have you Twilight?"

"That's another thing, you put yourself down without realising it. You say you're lucky as if you don't deserve it, but you do. I'm just as lucky to have you. You're strong, confident and beautiful, but you need to talk to me. When you're upset you need to tell me what's wrong. I know you have made it on your own most of your life, but I'm here now. Take my help."

Trixie sniffed, taking in Twilight's words. "Thank you Twi, I will."

"Alright then let's get some sleep, I'm exhausted."

The pair jumped up onto the bed and snuggled under the plush, warm blankets. They fell asleep wrapped in each other's hooves.
