Chapter 5: Chapter 6: Truth unveiled
Previous Chapter Next ChapterSunday was a great day to have girls’ bonding since their ‘boyfriends’ are obliged to join their parents for some family event because Sunday is supposed to be a family day. Neil told Courtney that he will be joining his parents to attend the mass and Tyler is out of town to attend some family stuffs. James invited Paddy to go to mass with his parents but Paddy refuse since she is not ready to meet James parents yet.
“TAYLOR!” Courtney exclaimed as she and Heather walk in to Taylor and Paddy’s room. Taylor covered her face with pillow because she doesn’t want to deal with her friends yet. She is too sleepy. Always remember, never joked to someone who just woke up. It won’t do any good.
“Come on Tay! You are the only single of the group. Let’s go find Kent so he would finally ask you out!” Courtney said excitedly as she shook Taylor’s body to wake her up.
“Oh yeah Tay!” Paddy said as she sat down in her bed rubbing her eyes while stretching.
“What?” Taylor sounds surprise. She now sat down in her bed. “You and Neil?” She pointed to Courtney.
“You and Tyler?” She looked at Heather. “No way? That was fast.” Taylor shook her head.
“And Kent has a girlfriend. Forget about him.” Taylor walked to the bathroom.
“What?” The three girls said in unison.
“What? No way, I could see he likes you too Tay!” Courtney said.
“I saw him yesterday with his girl while you guys were busy with your boyfriends” Taylor shouted. She’s inside the bathroom.
“Oh? Are you okay Tay?” Courtney called up.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry.” Taylor replied. She is still at the bathroom.
Courtney, Heather, and Paddy stared at each other. They knew Taylor. She would say she’s okay but the truth is it was the opposite. They smiled to each other and they would know how to do. They would find Taylor a boyfriend. The three gave their high fives as if they already come up to a great plan.
“What?” Taylor asked when her friends looked at her like they were up to something.
“Okay! We’ll go get a shower. You two should be ready and Tay, wear something cute!” Heather instructed.
“What? Where are we going? Are we going to church?” Taylor asked but then Heather and Courtney bolted out of the door and Paddy grabbed her towel to go first to the bathroom.
“What the hell is happening?” Taylor muttered. She went to her closet to find the ‘something cute’ Heather had told her. She settled on a plain white V-neck shirt and pair of jeans. She paired it with her pink and grey stripes cardigan and boots. The usual Taylor outfit.
After an hour, Courtney and Heather walk in the room again. They were dress fashionably as they are, this time, so English because of scarfs around their necks. Paddy is so beautiful with her tights and long sleeve dress.
“Taylor, I think there is lacking.” Heather said. She is critic in terms of fashion as well as Courtney. She went to the drawer and grabs a dangling and gave to Taylor. “Wear this.”
“and this.” Courtney added. She gave Taylor a wristband.
“Why do I get a feeling that you’re up to something?” Taylor is curious. She doesn’t like the attention.
“Now we’re all set. Grab your keys and we’re going to church.” Courtney commanded.
“Let’s go.” Paddy sang the words.
The four girls exited the room and made their way to parking lot. At first you would think Spencer is an abandon place because of no single person is around except for the four. Even in the parking lot, no one’s car was parked but Taylor’s Ford. Maybe their parents were right, if they want to have their ghost hunting in school, Spencer is the best place especially during Sundays.
**
Heather called Tyler as she waits for Courtney to be done taking a bath. She asked him if he knew Kent Alter and luckily he knew him. He said that he don’t think so if Kent is taken or not. All he knew is that he plays DOTA a lot and you can barely see him with girls.
“Court! Tyler doesn’t think that Kent has a girlfriend and I got his number. Tyler gave it to me.” Heather called up for Courtney who’s in the bathroom.
“Me thinks too. We should call him.” Courtney said as she bolted out of the bathroom.
“You call him. Here is his mobile and I’m gonna get a shower.” Heather instructed.
Courtney dialled the number and then someone answered her on the next line.
Hello?
Hey, this is Courtney. Remember, we attend class 1 together.
Oh, yeah, I know you. What’s up?
Hey, this is rude but I’m gonna ask you anyway. Do you have a girlfriend?
Oh, um, no, I’m single. Why?
Yeah? Okay, look, we’re going to attend the second mass today and Taylor will drive us.
What do you mean?
Um, Taylor is a protestant so she’s not going to join us inside the church instead she’ll go to the Spencer’s Baptist Church, alone.
Yes, so?
Kent! I’m calling because I want you to join her!
Um, okay?
Nice! Thanks Kent. Wait for Taylor in front of the church. She’ll be there at 30. Bye! Courtney hang up on Kent.
“We’re all set Heath, Kent said yes!” Courtney informed Heather.
“That’s great threatening Court, inform Paddy!” Heather commanded. Their plan is falling into place like they wanted to. It’s time to repay Taylor for playing a matchmaker all the time.
**
Kent was at his bedroom when Courtney called. He was a bit whipped for what had just happened. A girl commanded him what to do and all he could say is ‘Okay’. He doesn’t even know how to argue. He is at his parents’ house because they living a Sunday rule. He immediately went to shower and slip his shirt and jeans on. He sprayed a little cologne, grabs his keys, wallet and bolted out of the house before his parents could stop him. He is going to church with Taylor. That’s a good start for the two of them.
**
Taylor pulled off at the front of the cathedral. She feels confident because she did not know she would be expert in the town’s drive for only a week staying at Spencer. She is not much of a catholic mind because she is a Baptist but still she’ll be joining her friends inside the church.
“It’s okay Tay. We’ll be alright. We’ll just take a cab after the mass and you should go to Spencer’s Baptist Church.” Paddy stated. She too knows what Courtney and Heather’s plan.
“Oh, um, are you sure?” Taylor asked looking to Paddy, Heather and Courtney simultaneously.
“We’ll be fine. Go ahead. You’ll be late.” They assured.
“Okay, see you later.” Taylor waved goodbye and starts her way to the Baptist church in town.
The church was a 15 minute drive. She parked her Ford Fiesta and walk in front of the church door when he saw Kent’s waiting outside.
Oh my gosh, what is he doing here? Don’t tell me, I’m going to see him here dating with his girlfriend. Taylor thought. She went uneasy when Kent flashed a smile. Taylor curved a little smile and made her way inside the church and leave Kent behind.
“Hey, I waited for you. You just can’t leave me here.” Kent followed her inside.
“What?” Taylor asked under her breath. She now found a vacant seat. Kent sat beside her. “Why are you waiting for me? Where’s your girlfriend?”
“What girlfriend?” Kent asked. Taylor could feel Kent tries to psycho her. She just rolled her eyeballs to answer him.
“You look annoyed.” Kent said. It is more like a statement than a question.
“I am annoyed.” Taylor answered back. She couldn’t concentrate on what the Pastor’s preaching with Kent beside him. Aside from the fact that Kent is looking handsome with his black shirt and Taylor could smell his masculine cologne.
“Why?” Kent asked. He hasn’t had any idea why Taylor is treating him coldly while she just blog him the other day sweetly.
“You really have no idea?” Taylor sounds pissed. She continued when Kent did not reply. “You are flirting even though you have a girlfriend.”
“What? I don’t have. Why did you say that?” Kent defended under his breath.
“I saw you yesterday. You two look sweet.” Taylor stated.
“What? What time did you see us?” Kent asked.
“What? Around 4 I think.” Taylor answered. It looks like Kent doesn’t have any idea of what she’s talking about.
“Oh!” confusion in Kent’s face shifted to mischievous grin. So you’re stalking me ha? He thought but chooses not to say it loud.
“What?” Taylor sweats in this mid-October weather. Kent is grinning like hell and it distracts her.
Kent ignored Taylor and focused on the worship service. Taylor felt uneasy for the sudden change of Kent’s reaction. They remained silent until the service has ended.
Taylor bolted out of the church and Kent called up for her. “Taylor! She’s my sister.”
Taylor stopped and faced Kent. She doesn’t know what he is talking about. He walks closer to Taylor. “The girl yesterday, she is my sister.”
“Oh?” Taylor was a bit caught off guard. This was the most embarrassing moment ever.
“And I’ve read your blog.” Kent winked. Taylor was surprised and curved her mouth to a big O in shocked. She immediately turned her back and walk straight to her car.
Oh my gosh, oh my gosh Taylor’s heart is beating so fast. She did not even notice Kent was right beside her again.
Taylor covered her face for embarrassment. She is so busted. “Hey, that wasn’t you!” She denied and opens her car but Kent stopped her.
“Liar!” Kent grinned. “Don’t worry, I had fun reading it especially the ‘Taylor’s can’t? or Taylor’s Kent’ I’m not sure.”
“Oh my gosh Kent. Stop it Okay.” Taylor covered her ears. She felt too embarrassed. How on earth did Kent found her blog? Why did I even blog him? What was I thinking?
“Okay2x.” Kent said and throws his hands in the air in defence. “I’ll drop it. But in one condition.”
“You are not going to compensate that I should go out with you, are you?” Taylor guesses what Kent condition like in the movie is or in the books she read.
“No, of course not, that’s so cliché.” Kent disagreed. “Teach me how to dougie.”
“Seriously?” Taylor laughed. It was the first time she felt light when Kent’s around. It feels great. “But I don’t know how to dougie.”
Kent laughed. “If you don’t want to teach me, I leave no choice but to ask you to buy me a pizza because I’m starving.”
“I guess pizza is fine.” Taylor smiled. “Hop in.” Taylor tilted her head to the passenger’s door.
“Oh? Take a ride with me.” Kent offered.
“What? I just can’t leave it here.” Taylor argued.
“Courtney could drive?” Kent asked.
“Yeah, why?” Taylor replied. Courtney could drive but she has no sense of direction. Last time she asked Courtney for a direction, she ended up turning the wrong way.
Kent did not answer her but grab his phone. He pushed some buttons and put the phone back to his pocket. “Just leave the key at guard here and Courtney will take care of your car.”
“What? Why on earth you have Courtney’s number?” Taylor tried to argue but Kent grabs the key in her hand and leaves it to the guard. He instructed Courtney what to do and he asked the guard nicely and luckily he said yes.
“What if..” Taylor muttered but Kent cut her off. “Trust me.”
Kent holds Taylor’s hand and escorted her to his car. “Come on, I’m starving.”
Taylor smiled. Kent is so childish. If the world ends today, all his concern is only to feed his growling tummy.
“So where would I treat you a pizza? Do you guys have Greenwich?” Taylor asked.
“What the hell is Greenwich? Here, we call it Pizza hut.” Kent joked.
Kent drives to the place he calls Pizza hut. No wonder Kent likes it there because you could get your order right away. It is really design for starving people. Taylor likes watching Kent enjoying his mean. She never feels so comfortable with this guy. She was glad the truth unveiled. Kent is single.
**
The mass has ended but still no sign of Neil or James inside the church. As the three girls went out of the church Courtney’s iPhone vibrates. Kent just sent her a message.
Hey, it’s Kent. Favor please? Taylor will take a ride with and please pick up her car here. We left the keys at the guard here. Thanks.
Courtney grinned. “Mission accomplished guys.”
“Yeah right.” Paddy reached Courtney’s hand for a high five.
“Good job angels.” Heather laughed.
“We’ll pick up Tay’s car because she’ll be riding with Kent.” Courtney informed Paddy and Heather.
“That’s great. I always knew the spaces between her fingers are right where Kent’s fit perfectly.” Heather stated.
“What the? Since when you listen to Owl city Heath?” Paddy asked.
“Tyler is a fan of Owl city. He thinks it was embarrassing when I knew but I find it cute.” Heather explained.
Paddy and Courtney just look at each other and laughed. “Come on. Since we have a car, I’ll drive.” Courtney said.
“Hell-yeah, let’s go eat.” Paddy suggested.
They waited for a cab and then made their way to Baptist church where Taylor’s car parked. Courtney took the courage to drive.
“It’s the first time in a row. Taylor never let anyone drive her Herby.” Heather said. Herby is Taylor’s car nickname.
“I think I’m going to like Kent.” Courtney thinks that if it wasn’t for Kent, she would never drive Herby ever.
“You’re not gonna be needing Herby Court, Neil will drive you.” Paddy teased.
The three girls made it to Taylor’s car but there’s no sign of Kent or Taylor. Maybe they were already gone somewhere.
“So where are we going?” Courtney asked. She positioned herself in the driver seat, Heather in the passenger’s seat and Paddy at the back seat.
“Are you sure you know the way Court?” Heather doesn’t really trust Courtney’s sense of direction.
“We’ll alright Heath. Don’t worry.” Courtney assured.
“Right! I’m starving, come on.” Paddy rushed.
Courtney proves to Heather that she knew the direction. After a couple of minutes Courtney pulled off in front of Jo’s arcade where Paddy suggested. She would admit, she went nervous every time she saw intersections. Good thing Paddy have been to Jo’s arcade and did most of the tour guide job. They just couldn’t afford to be lost in the woods or get stranded without Taylor. The adventures wouldn’t just start if only one is missing. TEAM they say.
