Meeting the Doctors
I.
It's a beautiful day in Ponyville: the sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and there is a light breeze. It is calm, except for a small commotion being raised by a pair of ponies running through the crowd in the market. One of these ponies is light brown, with a darker brown mane and eyes full of life. He has an hourglass cutie mark, and a determined smile on his face. The other pony is a light gray color, with straw colored hair and bubbles as her cutie mark. She has a look of awe on her face, as if this expadition was an un expected occurance in her day. "Doctor, where are we going?" Derpy asks as she struggles to keep up with the doctor in the crowd. The doctor, a few paces ahead, calls over his shoulder. "I am picking up on a big energy signature near the main square, and we're going to check it out." He finishes with that same gleeful smile on his face as he skirts around a pony buying from a produce stall.
Derpy lets out an exhausted sigh and runs faster to catch up to the Doctor. They pass in front of a pair of ponies, cutting off their path in their haste to get to main square. "sorry about that!" The Doctor yells as he passes. Finally, he slows down to a brisk walk and looks around. Derpy catches up shortly after and walks next to the Doctor. "Is it near by?" She looks around the square also. The Doctor scowls while he thinks. "It should be around here somewhere, let me check." He pulls out the sonic screwdriver and quickly aims it around, then focuses it in one direction. "Over here derpy!" He calls as he takes off in the idicated direction. Derpy lets out an aggrevated sigh and runs to try and catch up again.
After a bit of running they arrive next to a small cluster of trees. The Doctor scans around again and focuses on one spot. "Here it is! derpy, get over here. and hurry!" He calls. Derpy arrives next to the tree and the Doctor says "Now, right here, there is a slowly growing energy signature." "what is it doctor?" Derpy asks while aprehensivley eyeing the spot. "I don't know quite yet, but we'll figure out soon." Suddenly, a bright blue and purple swirl of energy resembling electric bolts appears and grows in size. The Doctor pushes derpy back a bit and says "Stand back, we don't know what is going to come through that rift, and if it's hostile we don't want to be too close when it emerges."
The rift seems to stop incresing in size and a flashing shape can be seen hurtling towards the Doctor and Derpy. As they step back, a large blue box lands in a cloud of dust in front of them. The rift behind it closes, leaving no trace it was ever there. The Doctor and Derpy edge closer to this odd object, and Derpy asks "What is it?" Before the Doctor could answer, a door on the box swung open, and a tall creature stepped out. Neither the Doctor nor Derpy had seen a creature quite like this before, and they both stepped back quickly from it. It looked around, then it saw the Doctor and Derpy. "Well", the creature said, eyeing the two, "isn't this just fascinating?"
The Doctor and Derpy take yet a few more steps back from this odd being. It notices them inching away and a smile splays over it's face. "Don't be scared, I won't hurt you." It coos in a soothing tone. The Doctor and Derpy glance at each other nervously, then The Doctor slowly creeps back towards this mysterious creature. "That's it, just a bit closer." The creature continues beaming, seeming excited to be right there at that very moment. The Doctor finally arrives about a foot away from this mysterious being. It holds out it's hoof, if it could be called that. This thing had multiple littler apendages portruding from it, and The doctor shyed away from the unfamilliar sight a bit. The creature seems to sense his uneasiness and says in a gentle tone "Oh don't worry, that's called a hand. Don't the humans that own you have them?" The creature asks. The doctor gets a confused look on his face. What are these "humans". He looks up at the creature, noticing the creature giving him a look of pure disbelief. "It's... it's almost as if you were.. well no it couldn't be, you're a pony after all." The doctor shoots this creature a glance that makes the creature continue his statement. The creatures confused look only intensifies, and it says "Why it's,.. well almost as if you can understand what I'm saying." The creature finally says. The doctor opens his mouth and says a single sentence: "I can understand you."
The sudden presence of speech from the pony sent the creature a slight, but quite visible, jolt. By this point, Derpy has gethered the courage to trot up to stand beside the Doctor. "Oh wow, you can understand me!" The creature exclaims. "Of course I can, didn't I just say that?" The Doctor asks in an amused tone. The creature turns it's head towards Derpy, and she retreats back a step or two. "What about you, can you talk as well?" It asks her in an excited tone. Derpy shyly looks up into the face of this being and says almost inaudabily "Y-yes, I can." The creature puts it's arms and whatever the things at the end of it's arms were behind it's head and lets out and excited sounding sigh. "Well this is just, just incredible! Where am I, exactly?" The creature asks, focusing once again on the pony pair.
The Doctor speaks up again, saying "Uh, excuse me for a moment, may i ask you a question?" The creature nods, waiting for the question. "Well, um, we've answered your questions, do you mind answering a few of ours?" The creature looks thoughtful for a moment, then nods his head again. "I suppose it would be alright, whaddya wanna know?" It asks. "Well, for one, just exactly what are you?" The doctor asks. Again the creature looks very thoughtful, then is says "Well, what I am is complicated, and I'd rather not discuss it at this moment. So for the sake of simplicity, let's just say I'm human for now." "Human?" The Doctor and Derpy say in almost perfect unison. "Judging by your reactions", the creature says "you don't get much of those around here do you?" Both the ponies shake their heads. "Well, first time for everything, I suppose." The being says. "Wait a second", says the Doctor. "You said let's just go with human for now, does that mean you aren't really one?" The thing smiles and says "Quite the clever one aren't you? No, I'm not really a human, but like I said, now isn't really the time or place to discuss it any further." It looks around. The Doctor is perplexed, and he turns to derpy and whispers "Something is very strange about this thing." Derpy nods in agreement. The Doctor ponders for a moment, then takes out his sonic screwdriver and turns around, aiming to scan this creature. When he turns full around, his jaw drops.
The creature has a simmilar reaction. Almost simultaniously, the Doctor and the alien say "Where did you get that?" The Doctor eyes the screwdriver, then turns to the alien. "I've always had this, and what about you?" "Same story as you, always had it." A perplexed look passes over both their faces, before the alien gets a look of discovery on his face. "Oh my, oh no I think I know whats going on here!" The alien exclaims. He sweeps his gaze back over the two ponies. His gaze halts on the Doctor. "You wouldn't.... you wouldn't happen to be called the Doctor, would you?" He asks the light brown pony. The pony has a look of pure shock on his face. "How did-? but How-? How did you know my name?" By now the Doctor is completeley confused. The alien makes a face that is somewhere between thinking and knowing, and says "I uh, I think you ought to come with me." He beckons towards the blue box. "What is it?" Asks Derpy. "Better yet, how will we all three of us fit in there?" The Doctor snorts. "This is called the TARDIS, and let me assure you it is a lot bigger than it looks." The alien says with calm determination, as if he is impatient to get the two ponies inside quick as possible. "Now, hurry up, I have an important question, and most likely a bit of explaining to do myself" He ushers the two towards the door with a sweep of his arm. The Dcotor and Derpy exchange glances again, then they slowly walk into the TARDIS. The alien takes one last look around and closes the door.
When they enter the box, the two ponies are amazed. This alien being was right: it really was bigger on the inside. Derpy and the Doctor sit and look around in bewildered amazement at this massive space occupying more room then it seems it should. The alien creature sits in a chair and stares at the ponies. There is notihng but silence, save for the noises eminating from the countless mechanic contraptions adorning the slightly cluttered space. Finally, the alien breaks the silence. "So, you two can talk, which means I can't be on earth anymore. So if not earth, what planet am I on?" It asks, still staring at the two ponies as it talks. The Doctor makes a confused face. "I don't know about planet" he begins, "but I cantell you you are in Equestria." The being laughs a bit. "Back on earth, that would be sort of like a pun, but I guess not here in, err, Equestria." The Doctor and Derpy both just stare at the alien, wondering what it means by that last statement. "So, judging by your reactions and behavior around me, I can assume there are no humans here in Equestria. Am I correct?" The alien asks. The Doctor nods, then says "Alright, my turn for questions." The alien nods it's head a bit, so the Doctor continues. "What is your name, and how do you know mine?" The Doctor asks. "Ah, I was just about to get to that actually!" Exclaims the alien. "You ready?" It asks. Once again, the Doctor and Derpy nod. "Well, you see, my name is the doctor also." He stares at the two ponies as the pony known as the Doctor's face twists to one of startled confusion. Before the bewildered pony can say more, the alien continues.
"You see, it seems as if there are two of us, in different forms of course, in the universe. Now I know it seems odd, but it appears to also be true." The alien stops for a second, seeming to let this information sink in to the pony version of himself The pony Doctor speaks up. "Does that,.... does that make me a timelord as well?" The alien starts to ponder this question, then looks back at the pony. "Before I continue, lets sort out a type of nickname for you and I, that way we don't get mixed up." The pony Doctor nods, and starts to think it out as well. Finally, the pony Doctor's face lights up as if a great idea has came to him. "How about you call me whooves, and I call you Doctor?" The alien ponders that for a minute more, then smiles and nods. "yeah, that'll work. Nice to meet you Whooves, I'm Doctor!" Doctor holds out his arm and Whooves eyes the thing at the end of it suspiciously again. Doctor notices and says "Oh don't worry bout that, it's just my hand. It's how i pick things up." Doctor wiggles the apendages on his hand. "Fingers." He says, giving them another wiggle. Whooves puts his hoof in the hand and Doctor gives it a firm shake. "Nice to meet you." He says with a smile. "Nice to meet you as well." Whooves says with a smile adorning his face as well. "Now, this place seems so interesting to me, mind showing me around it a bit?" Doctor asks, eying the ponies. "Not in the least bit", Whooves says. "Lets get going." Whooves smiles as he nods towards the door.
Whooves walks over and pushes the door open, then holds it open as Doctor and Derpy walk out, then he walks out as well, closing the door. Once outside, Doctor turns around and locks the door, then puts the key in his pocket and turns to the two ponies. "By the way," He says, "I never got her name." Derpy blushes shyly and looks at her hooves. "M-my name is Derpy Hooves, but you could just call me Derpy." She says looking down at her hooves still. "Well, nice to meet you as well derpy!" Doctor holds out his hand, but Derpy just shies away from it. Doctor retracts this greeting and says "Alrighty then, I suppose I AM still a little odd to you." He turns to whooves "Who is she, your, you know." Doctor waggles his eyebrows at Whooves. Whooves stammers a bit and says "N-no nothing like that. She's my assistant." "Ah, got ya. you know I used to have an assistant myself, but more about that later." Doctor says. He continues on. "Right, now that introductions are out of the way, I believe you have a tour you were going to give." Whooves nods, then says "Come on Derpy, let's show our new friend around town."
The next morning
As the trio slowly makes their way back to the main part of Ponyville, Doctor and Whooves are having a conversation, with Derpy joining in occasionally. The topic is Equestria and it's inhabitants, and Whooves and Depry have become the source of information to Dotor as he hammers off question after question. "So here in Equestria, eveybody is a pony?" Doctor asks. The two ponies nod, and Doctor asks another question. "So where are we going right now?" Whooves replies "To Ponyville, where me and Derpy live." "Anything or anyone I should know in or about Ponyville?" Doctor asks. "If we pass by important ponies or places, I or Derpy will point them out, alright?" Whooves replies. "Ah, got ya." Doctor says, seeming to be done with his tyraid of questions. After a bit more walking, they arrive at the maret are of Ponyville. As soon as they get within range of the first set of stands, the ponies surrounding them slowly fall silent and stare at the odd being walking with the two ponies. Doctor notices the stares and begins to look a bit flustered. "Um, Whooves." "Yes?" Whooves answers, then notices the stares as well. "Oh my." He says. "It seems as though your odd appearance is drawing alot of attention. Maybe we should go somewhere and sit down for a bit, that way we don't cause any more of a stir."
"That sounds like a good idea." Doctor says, and Whooves leads them to Sugarcube Corner. The trio enters and no pony can be seen. "Well, it's oddly empty here today." Whooves says. They all sit away from the windows in case any passerby should look inside. Whooves takes the silence as an oppurtunity to do some explaining. "Well, it seems the initial reaction we had is going to be mutual among every other pony in Ponyville. I think the presence of a being such as yourself is going to create quite a stir here." Before Doctor can continue on this point, an excited and confused gasp can be heard behing them, and Derpy says "Oh look, it's Pinkie!" A smile lines Derpy's face as the other two look around, and Whooves slams his hoof on his forehead. "THIS should be interesting." He says in an annoyed tone. The pink pony bounds over exitedly, and with enough speed to make Doctor recoil a bit when she gets face to face with him. "Oooooh! I've never seen one of these before!" *a big grin speards across Pinkie's face "What is it?" Doctor is still leaning away slightly from the hyper pink pony, He says "I'm an alien here, technically. I'm also-" Before he can continue he is cut short by a huge excited gasp from Pinkie. "An alien!? Oh my gosh oh my gosh, how did you get here? With a spaceship? Maybe a teleporter? Ooh ooh, can you go places with your mind!?" The pink pony goes on and on with question after question, causing Doctor to scoot away a bit. "Um, Pinky, I'd like to introduce you to someone." Whooves says, trying to interrupt Pinkie's tyrade of endless questioning. She instantly stops questioning Doctor and says "Oh boy, I love meeting new people! What's his name?" "Pinkie." Whooves begins. "This is Doctor. Doctor, this is Pinkie. now you know each other." Pinkie lets out a squeal of delight and grapbs Doctor's hand and begins to shake it vigorusly, then slowly grinds to a halt when she realizes what she's isn't a hoof. "Oh my, what an odd looking hoof?" "It's called a hand actually." Doctor says, slowly disengaging it from Pinkie's hooves. "And it's nice to mmet you Pinkie." "Nice to meet you too Doctor!!" Pinkie says, a big smile adorning her face.
Whooves goes to the window and looks out. "It seems as if the market crowd is going home for the night, we can go now." He says. Pinkie gasps loudly and says "Oh no you can't, our new friend hasn't tried one of my insanley yummy extra tastey super wonderful cupcakes!" She says, all in one breath. "Well, I suppose I COULD use a bit of a snack." Doctor says. "That's the spirit, be right back with a whole tray!!" Pinkie bounds away happily to the kitchen, and Whooves sits down next to derpy. "I suppose I should tell you about her, she IS an important pony here in Ponyville." Whooves says. Doctor gives Whooves his attention, and Whooves continues. "Her name is Pinkie Pie. She is one of the bearers of the Elements of Harmony." Whooves pauses, waiting for any questions. Doctor motions for him to continue, and so Whooves moves on. "Her 5 best friends are also bearers of Elements. I suppose we'll be meeting them when she tells them all about you tomorrow." Whooves finishes up, and Doctor asks "One question. What are the Elements of Harmony?" "I think you'd better let the Bearers tell you that when they come to see you. Anyway, here comes Pinkie with our cupcakes, then we can get going." Whooves says. Pinkie bounds over and sets a tray of fresh cupcakes on the table. "Eat up guys!!" She says before hopping over to the stairs.
After they finish off the cupcakes, they call a thanks up to Pinkie and head for the door. They step out into the dying day, seeing the sunset. "My but isn't it getting late. I think we should all head back to my house for tonight. I have the feeling you'll need a bit of rest before tomorrow." Whooves says. Doctor nods and says "lead the way." All three set off down a path, Whooves leading the way. After a bit of walking they arrive at a building nesteled between a few trees. "Well, this is our stop." Whooves says. They all three go to the door, and Whooves opens it. Him and Derpy go right in, but Doctor has to crouch a bit to fit into the door. When he gets inside he notices it is built to the point where he can stand comfortably. "At least I won't have to crouch to move around here," Doctor says, a small smile playing across his lips. "follow me, I'll show you your room." Whooves says. The three go upstairs, and Whooves pushes a door open and indicates with a sweep of his hoof that it is Doctor's room. Doctor pauses at the doorway and watches as Whooves and Derpy go to seperate rooms and close their doors. Then he goes into his room and shuts the door. He heads to the bed and lays down, processing the events of the day. Before he knows it, Doctor's eys get heavier. Then they keep falling, and slowly they stop opening again.
The darkness is slightly illuminated. There still isn't anything definate, just darkness, with the faint glow of light warming it a bit. Doctor struggles a bit, not understanding why it is so dark. Finally he opens his eyes, squinting a bit from the sunlight pouring in through the window. "Wow, it was just me having my eyes closed." Doctor laughs for a bit. When he stops forever, he still hears laughter. And voices. "Well that must be my hosts." He says. He slowly gets up and stretches. He then walks out of the bedroom, and goes to the sairs. He poke his head around the corner, observing the scene below. The voices were indeed coming from his guests, but it looked as if there were more than just two ponies in the house at that moment. He counted eight, each one a different color and each having a different mark on their rump. He lists the colors and the according marks off in his head. "let's see, i know Pinkie Pie. Her mark is balloons. Then a purple one, with a six point star. Next is a white one with diamonds. Then a caramel colored one with apples. Then a cream colored one with butterflies. Then a cyan colored one, with a cloud that has a rainbow lightning bolt coming from it. But isn't this odd, she has multicolored hair while the rest have solid colored hair. Well, all except the purple one, but all he or she has is a highlight." Doctor starts to go downstairs. He gets to the bottom step and leans against a wall, surveying the convorsation. After a few minutes, he coughs just a little, to let them know he is there.
All the ponies look over, and Whooves smiles. "Everypony, I'd like you to meet the guest of the hour. This is our alien visitor. You can just call him Doctor." Whooves finishes up, then walks over and stands next to Doctor. Pinkie lets out an excited squeal. "See, what did I tell you, I told you he looked wierd!" She yells. She bounds over and stands next to Doctor as well. The other ponies are staring at him, as if trying to take in the site of such a foreign looking creature standing in their midst. Finally, the white one speaks up. "Um, hello mister. My name is Rarity." She says it uneasily, as though she doesn't know what to expect as a response. "Nice to meet you rairty. You already know my name." Doctor holds out his hand, and Rarity walks over tentativley and puts her hoof in Doctor's hand. He shakes it gently, then she goes to stand beside Pinkie. The two start to whisper to each other, and the next pony steps forward to introduce herself. I'ts the one with the rainbow mane. "Hey guy, the names Rainbow Dash. I'm the fastest flying pegusus in all of Equestria. Nice to meet 'ya." She flies over and grabs Doctors hand, shaking it vigorusly before joing her frinds in the small huddle they're forming. The next to step forward is the purple one. "Hi, my name is Twilight sparkle. It's a pleasure to meet you." She walks over to Doctor and politley shakes his hand. "Nice to meet you as well. You too Rarity and Rainbow Dash." Doctor says. Twilight goes to talk with Whooves instead of joining the huddle of friends. The next to greet Doctor is the caramel colored pony. She walks over confidently and shakes his hand. She has a firm shake, and she talks in a confident tone even though she is talking to basically an alien. "mah name's applejack, nice ta meet ya." She releases his hand and joins the huddle. Doctor looks around and notices the cream colored pony slowly shying away from him. The only other one who seems to notice is Derpy. She approaches the frightened looking pony and they start to talk. Doctor can't hear because of the din of the voices next to him, but he doesn't move closer in case he causes the pony to run.
After a bit of coaxing, the little pony apporaches Doctor very timidly. She looks up at him with very frightened looking eyes. "H-h-hello. M-my name is Fluttershy." Doctor smiles and slowly holds out his hand for Fluttershy to shake. She retreats a step, then seems to gain a bit of confidence and shakes his hand. He smiles again, and this time she does too. "Nice to meet you Fluttershy." Doctor says. The pegusus nods and says "You too." She quickly scampers away to join the small huddle of her friends. Derpy walks up next to Doctor. "She's a bit shy. I'm actually surprised she shook your hand." Doctor looks thoughtful, and Derpy slowly goes into the kitchen. Doctor is snapped out of his reverie by Whooves, who says "So, these are the Bearers. Any questions?" "Yes actually. What are these marks on all of your rumps? What do they mean?" Doctor asks. "Oh, those are called cutie marks. Those indicate what our special talent is." Whooves says. "Ah, well I'm going to have to figure out what they all are, some of these marks are confusing." Doctor says. "No time right now, sorry to say. They just came over to meet you. We still have to show you something." Doctor looks confused, but shrugs it off and follows Whooves around the house. "All right everypony, it's been a pleasure having you all over, but now it's time for you guys to leave, I have things I need to talk to Doctor about." Whooves says. The 6 friends file out the door, each calling a goodbye to the pony and alien. When they all get out the door, Whooves shuts it and turns to Doctor. "Now, this is where the day truly begins." Whooves says with a smile.
