Love Knows No Barriers: A Story of What Should Have Been
Chapter 1: Somepony Loves You.
“What… no, please, wait… Dash!” she then woke up. Ugh, another bad dream, Fluttershy thought to herself. What time is it? The clock read 3:42 A.M. The sun hadn’t even come out yet. Great, I’m not going to get any sleep after that. Might as well get the day started now. She sighed, got out of bed and went downstairs. Angel’s still asleep, and I don’t want to wake him… She looked outside the window, and noticed the beautiful night sky Princess Luna has raised tonight. I’ve always admired the night, she thought, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it as calm and beautiful as tonight. She quietly got her scarf out of the drawers next to the back door and wrapped it around her neck. She has always loved that scarf, Rarity made it as a gift and it matched her perfectly: it was a light pink, just like her mane, and was thick enough to warm her quickly but light enough to breathe.
She began thinking about the dream she had, and sighed. She knew that she was in love with Rainbow Dash, but she could never bring herself to say that to anypony else. Not after what happened at flight school all those years ago. She was so abused and hurt, she thought to herself. And for what? Because she was smaller than the rest? I remember what she used to be called… “Fillyfooler.” She knew that Rainbow Dash was not into mares, and she knew that no matter what she’d never be able to catch Dash’s heart. It was a pointless thing to think about, but it wouldn’t leave her mind. One day. She shook her head and made her way out of her small cottage, seeing a family of bunnies sleeping next to their burrow. It made her envious, but she didn’t do anything about it. She was too shy to, she was too certain it couldn’t be. She just stared up at Princess Luna’s night sky, and smiled. It’s so beautiful, just like Dash...
But there was one thing she didn’t expect. In the cloud castle somewhere on the other side of Ponyville, in her bed laid Rainbow Dash. It’s so obvious that I love her… “I wish she’d notice!” she yelled to an empty room. “Celestia, why am I so nervousabout this? Why can’t I just tell her how I feel? This is so… so…” she grew annoyed with herself. “So unlike ME!” She then punched her pillow with a hoof. This will get me nowhere, being like this, she thought to herself, but what about our friendship? What if she doesn’t love me back? The simple thought of losing Fluttershy for good made a single tear drop come to her left eye. I need to sleep. I haven’t in days, all because of this single mare that doesn’t even know how much I care about her. That will end, somehow or another… she slowly fell asleep as her mind wandered on the subject of Fluttershy and her being together. A smile crept upon that pegasi's face as she dreamt of Fluttershy, one of happiness and contentment… one that could only come from true, unadulterated love.
Ugh, how long did I sleep… Rainbow Dash opened up her eyes to Celestia’s sun. “OH MOTHER OF CELESTIA IT BURNS!” She covered her eyes with her front hooves and slowly let them fall over the course of several minutes, letting her eyes get adjusted to the sun glaring in through the window. She shook her head and went over to look outside; the birds were chirping happily and the sun was shining, much to her previous unwanted knowledge. Time to go see what the girls are up to, she thought to herself. She walked out of the castle and noticed she had gotten mail. “Huh, I guess the mail deliveries are ahead of schedule today.” She looked inside and noticed a… muffin. Derpy was here, she thought to herself, she always leaves muffins. At least it’s something to eat. She spanned her wings out and flew to Ponyville, eating the muffin on the way there. Blueberry, not bad.
She noticed her friends congregating around Sugarcube Square: Rarity, Applejack, and Twilight Sparkle and… Fluttershy. She blushed mildly, thinking of that mare, but quickly got herself under control as she landed in front of the group. “Hey you guys!” They all looked up from their conversation and smiled. They all said their hellos, except for Fluttershy. She simply nodded and hid behind her mane, blushing and failing to keep composure as she noticed Dash.
She’s more beautiful every day…
“Hey, Fluttershy, are you okay?” Dash asked.
“Y-Yes…” she answered timidly. “I-I’m okay… why, um, do you ask?”
“You just seem a bit… oh, never mind.”
“O-Okay.” Celestia, why am I acting even shyer around her than usual?
“Anyways,” Dash continued, “what’re you ponies up to?” She’s so cute when she’s nervous… she thought to herself. Maybe today I’ll ask her.
“We’re just going to Pinkie’s house for a while,” Rarity answered.
“Ah’m sure you want to come?” Applejack asked.
“Sure, although I’m sure she’s just going to have us throw a party.” Dash said back. “It’s just her thing, you know?”
“Ah reckon she will, she always do.”
“Yes, yes, I’m positive she will too.”
“Indeed, I spoke to her earlier and she said something or another about a party.” Twilight Sparkle spoke for the first time since Dash got there. “She’s always about the parties.”
“I-I’m not sure I will, um, be much of a-an, um, participant,” Fluttershy piped in nervously, “I d-don’t do well, um, with a-a lot of people… a-around.”
“HEY YOU GUYS!” Pinkie Pie burst the door open to the Sugarcube Square Bakery, running out and tackling Rainbow Dash. “Guys, guys! You know what would be awesome right now? A PARTY!” she screamed happily. Inside, Mrs. Cake just sighed.
“Please don’t make much of a mess,” Mrs. Cake said, rather annoyed, “the last time was almost impossible to fix.”
“Yes, Mrs. Cake,” Pinkie Pie replied innocently, before whispering to Dash. “Like Discord’s plot I’m not!” She giggled.
Dash just smiled while the rest laughed. Pinkie is always a motivator. “So, Pinkie…”
“Yes?” She replied cheerfully, almost too cheerfully.
“What do you plan on us doing this time?”
“Well, PARTY of course!” Pinkie jumped off of Dash and just hopped up and down excitedly. “Come on!” She hopped into the bakery and up the stairs to her room. The rest looked at each other and followed her lead, Fluttershy being the second-to-last; Rainbow following behind.
I hope she didn’t notice… Fluttershy thought. I hope I didn’t make it too obvious…
By Celestia’s horn, I will find an opportunity to ask… Rainbow Dash thought confidently. Maybe I’ll just… her thought train was interrupted abruptly when she accidently hit snout-first into the wall next to the door.
Fluttershy couldn’t help but giggle quietly and smile. “A-Are you, um, okay?”
“Yeah, yeah… guess something was just on my mind.”
“Oh… well, um, y-you could talk to me about it, um, if that’s okay with you, of course.”
“No, no, it’s okay Fluttershy, really. I’m fine.”
“O-Okay.” She simply walked inside and left Rainbow there for a few seconds.
Celestia I look like such an idiot… she walked in and closed the door.
Later that night…
“PINKIE!”
“Uh-oh...”
“WHAT DID YOU DO?!” Mrs. Cake screamed. “Look at this mess! I thought you said you weren’t going to!”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…”
It was like something out of a disaster scene. The room was covered from wall to wall in watered-down flour, the table looked like it was thrown over and the chairs were scattered everywhere. Pinkie was at a stove, covered thickly with the sticky flour. Fluttershy was hiding underneath of Pinkie’s bed, shaking like a leaf. Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Twilight Sparkle and Rarity were all trying to stand back up, one half of their bodies covered in the sticky flour.
“Somepony is going to clean this up, Pinkamena Diane Pie, and it’s not going to be Mr. Cake or me this time!”
“Yes Mrs. Cake…”
“Now get to cleaning! I want to see this place the way it was BEFORE this ‘party.’”
“Yes Mrs. Cake…”
“Good.” Mrs. Cake closed the door and shook her head. “I thought I told her not to make a mess.”
“What happened?” It was Mr. Cake from downstairs.
“They made a mess.” Mrs. Cake responded.
“Oh. That’s unsurprising. Are they going to clean it up?”
“Yeah, they are.”
“Okay.”
Mrs. Cake came back down the stairs and sat down next to Mr. Cake in the backroom, to continue the baking for tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Pinkie was giggling and shaking her head, the flour going everywhere. “I’m sorry you guys!”
Applejack just growled. “Ah told you nothin’ good would come from it. Didn’t ah?”
“Applejack, calm down, we can fix this,” Twilight said as she glared at Pinkie, “but she’s going to do the majority of it.”
“Awh, but Twi!” Pinkie chimed in sadly.
“No buts. You made the mess, and you’re doing the majority of cleaning.”
“Fineeee.”
“That was pretty awesome though!” Dash said, before breaking into laughter. “Did you see the look on Mrs. Cake’s face? It was awesome!”
“…Where’s Fluttershy?” Rarity asked, clearly angered by Pinkie’s mess, making all the time she spent on her mane and tail worthless but at the same time concerned about Fluttershy.
“I don’t know,” Twilight responded.
“Ah never seen ‘er leave.” Applejack said.
Oh Celestia, where did she go… what happened to her…
“Fluttershy…” Rainbow Dash called out. “Fluttershy?” She became more concerned. “Fluttershy? Fluttershy?!” She continued to call out, each time with more concern in her voice. There was a faint sound of crying from underneath Pinkie’s bed, and Dash immediately went towards it. “Fluttershy?” She looked underneath the bed and saw Fluttershy hiding underneath there, crying and shaking like a leaf. It made Dash lose it, seeing the mare she loves crying. “PINKIE!” She became enraged at Pinkie Pie for making Fluttershy cry, “LOOK AT WHAT YOU DID!” She shoved Pinkie to the floor and pinned her down, the expression on Dash’s face being completely serious and intent on hurting somepony. She put one hoof up, holding Pinkies head down with the other, and immediately went to punch her, before Applejack stopped her.
“Dash, what ah you thinkin’?!” She looked into Dash’s rose eyes and saw nothing but pain and malice. “Calm down!”
Dash took one look at Applejack, then at Pinkie Pie, who was now wide-eyed with fear, looked back at Applejack and shoved her off as well, before flying out the window before anybody else could react, leaving a rainbow streak in her wake.
The rest just stood there, stunned, as Applejack got up and helped Pinkie up.
“Ah’m not sure what all that was about”
“I… I don’t know either… what got into her…” Pinkie was clearly shaken by the event.
“I don’t know, but I’m going to go talk to her,” Rarity replied, “Applejack, you go check on Fluttershy. Twi, help Pinkie clean up the mess.”
Twilight used her magic to clean off Rarity, and Rarity then went down the stairs to leave and find Rainbow Dash.
“Is it all cleaned up?” A voice from the back asked.
“Yes, it’s almost cleaned up.” Rarity replied.
There wasn’t a response afterwards, so Rarity left the bakery and went off in the direction she saw Dash go in order to find her.
Meanwhile, back at Sugarcube Square Bakery…
“Ah’m sure she’ll be fine,” Applejack said comfortingly to Fluttershy, attempting to coax her out, “Ah not sure why she do somethin’ like that, but ah’m sure she just needs time ‘lone…”
“I-I don’t know why, um, she’d do t-that… um, it’s not like her…” Fluttershy said nervously, trying to stop crying.
“Ah’m not sure either sugarcube, but ah sure she’ll come ‘round soon.”
“O-Okay, I hope so…” Fluttershy slowly crawled out from underneath Pinkie’s bed, noticing the floor and walls were half-cleaned up by Pinkie and Twi. I have a few ideas on why, but I’m not going to jump to conclusions… she thought to herself.
“Pinkie, please stop shaking! You’re making even more of a mess!” Twilight said, her patience being pressed.
“Sorry…” Pinkie replied solemnly, cleaning off the far wall. “I just don’t know why Dash would try doing that to me… I mean, we’re best friends…”
“Ah’m not sure either, sugarcube, but Rarity will find out ah’m sure.” Applejack said in an attempt to comfort Pinkie.
“Yeah… I hope so…”
The room was finally cleaned, and Fluttershy sat down next to a window and just stared through it. I wish I could figure out why… why she would do such a thing. Maybe she loves me? But she isn’t a “fillyfooler,” much to the opposite of what used to be believed…
“DASH!” Rarity screamed at Rainbow Dash as she ran towards the flying Pegasus. “Get down here RIGHT NOW!”
She just ignored Rarity, and continued flying for what seemed to be hours. Why did I do that for… but Fluttershy was crying, how could I not have stood up for her… but… ugh, why am I so stupid? Why can I not even figure out my own thoughts? She finally rested down on a passing cloud, and just cried. Cried because of her inability to tell Fluttershy how she feels, cried because she almost hurt Pinkie Pie, her best friend, cried because of everything she kept pent up inside until now. All of it just released itself, filling the cloud up.
“Dash, I said come down here! We need to talk!” Rarity was obviously irritated.
“Why do you care? Just go away, I already made a big enough plot of myself!”
“No. I know already—“ Rarity was immediately cut off by Dash who flew down quickly enough to shut Rarity’s mouth.
“You WHAT?” Dash had a look of disbelief on her face.
“Mmph mmh mmph!”
Rainbow Dash let go of Rarity’s mouth.
“I was trying to say, I already know you love Fluttershy.”
Dash looked at her like she just saw a ghost.
“It was quite obvious, dear, and I bet you thought it wasn’t.”
“Well, yeah, I figured—“
“Fluttershy loves you too.”
“What?”
“I said Fluttershy loves you too.”
“How—“
“Dear, I’m her best friend. She tells me EVERYTHING. She’s loved you since she first known you in flight school, back when you two were still fillies. She’s thought you weren’t, and still aren’t, into mares though.”
“Well…”
“Well you are, I know dear. That’s why I came after you. The scene you caused was more than enough proof, for me at least. The rest don’t know what went on, including Fluttershy.”
Dash just sighed. “My friendship with Pinkie is ruined.”
“No it isn’t,” Rarity put a hoof on Dash’s shoulder. “You just need to go make things right… and be with the mare we both know you love.”
“But—“
“But what? Are you AFRAIDof asking Fluttershy?” Rarity said mockingly.
“NO!.. Yes.” She just sighed.
“Why? You know you love her, and you know she loves you.”
“Because I’m not exactly the BEST at this kind of thing… none of my relationships with anypony has really worked, and I’m not exactly the most excited to try it again…”
“But you love her, don’t you?”
“Yes.”
“Then who cares if you’re excited or not? You need to go ask her! You could lose her before you even know what parasprite hit you.”
“You’re right…”
Rarity just smiled. “Of course I’m right, dear, I’m always right.”
Dash simply shrugged Rarity’s smug nature off and nodded, smiling. “I will go ask her. I’m going to get the mare I love!”
“That’s the pegasus I know!” Rarity watched as Rainbow Dash flew off towards Sugar Cube Bakery. She knew she was going to set things right, and it made her happy that Dash finally found somebody to love… Now if only I could find a nice stallion or mare to love…
“Is anybody there?” Rainbow Dash knocked on the door of the Sugarcube Square Bakery. “Hello?”
“Yes, I’m coming, keep your hooves on!” Mrs. Cake opened the door and looked at Rainbow Dash.
“And what can I do for you?”
“Is Pinkie Pie here?”
She just sighed and nodded.
“Can I go talk to her?”
She opened the door and moved to the side.
Dash walked up the stairs and knocked on Pinkie’s door. “Pinkie, open up!”
“Who is it?” Pinkie asked, as if she didn’t know.
“It’s me, Dash!”
“Go away!” She sounded hurt.
Dash sighed. I should’ve known she’d act like this. “Please open up Pinkie?”
“No.”
She sighed again. “Sorry for this Pinkie but I have to…” she then rammed the door, trying to get it open. Pinkie stood on the other side, leaning against it, trying to keep it shut. She continued to ram it until it finally opened, which took a few tries. “When in Celestia and Luna’s names did you get so strong? Never mind that,” she continued before Pinkie could answer, “Where is Fluttershy?”
“If you must know,” Pinkie said in a very whiny tone, “she left about an hour ago.”
“What time is it now?”
“1:40 A.M.”
“You’re kidding me.”
“Nope! You were gone a while. Where’s Rarity?”
“I don’t know, I left her after a long talk.” She sighed. “Where is Fluttershy? I need to know.”
“I don’t know. Why don’t you try her cottage? I mean—“ before she could finish, Rainbow Dash was already out the window, leaving a trail of rainbow behind her. All Pinkie hear Dash say was “I’m sorry for earlier.”
I will tell her, I just pray to Celestia that Rarity was right…
Celestia why? Fluttershy sighed as she made her way up into her bedroom. Why can’t she love me back? Just as she was going to lie down, she heard the door to her cottage slam open.
“Fluttershy?” The voice asked.
There was no response.
“Fluttershy?”
She heard a small squeak from upstairs and immediately followed it, continually calling Fluttershy’s name until she was face-to-face with the bedroom door. “Fluttershy?” She asked as she opened the door as quietly as she could, but it creaked as it was slowly moved. She walked in and noticed that the bed was shaking lightly, and looked underneath of it. “Fluttershy?”
“H-Hi…” Fluttershy answered, laying underneath of the bed and shaking.
“Did I scare you?”
“Y-Yes, um, no…”
Dash sighed. “I’m sorry, please come out?”
“O-Okay…”
She helped Fluttershy out and immediately embraced her in a hug.
“W-What is, um, that for?”
“Fluttershy, I need to tell you something…”
“Y-Yes, um, what is it? You don’t have to tell me, I mean, if that’s okay with you.”
“No, I have to tell you. I’ve been hiding it for a while now…” she sighed and looked directly into Fluttershy’s cyan eyes. “I love you, Fluttershy.”
“W-What?” Fluttershy was at a loss for words.
“I love you.”
“I-I love you too…”
Rainbow Dash just hugged Fluttershy close to her as they both started to cry.
“I-I’ve loved you for a long time; I just, um, never admitted it… not after what, um, happened to you during f-flight school, being called a “fillyfooler”…”
“Really?”
“Y-Yes…”
Dash led Fluttershy to her bed and laid her down before lying down next to her. “I guess I am a fillyfooler, aren’t I?” she smiled at Fluttershy as she just giggled quietly. “But it doesn’t matter what they call me, as long as I have you, the mare of my dreams.”
“T-Thank you…”
Dash leaned in and kissed Fluttershy softly but lovingly, tasting oats and carrots.
Fluttershy closed her eyes and enjoyed the kiss, tasting chocolate and spices on Dash’s lips.
“N-Never leave me?”
“Never.” She smiled at Fluttershy and put a hoof around her. “I think we both need some sleep, after what’s happened today.”
Fluttershy just nodded and closed her eyes as she snuggled close to Dash. She felt so secure, so warm, so accepted, so… loved. It was something she never felt before. So much had gone on in just one day, but it didn’t matter now. She felt a smile creep onto her face as she fell asleep next to Dash.
Wow, what a dream… Rainbow Dash thought to herself as she woke up. Wonder what triggered that… then she realized her face was buried in a pink mane. Celestia’s plot, it wasn’t a dream! She smiled and just laid there as she realized that Fluttershy was in her hooves, sleeping like a rock. An adorable rock that she loves, but a rock.
“Wake up sleepyhead.” Fluttershy heard in her ear. She yawned and stretched, but was restricted by… a light blue hoof? Rainbow Dash… She just smiled and whispered “I’m awake.”
“Awesome.” Rainbow Dash’s voice seemed softer, more comfortable, loving. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” Fluttershy smiled again and giggled quietly.
“You’re so cute when you giggle like that.”
She simply blushed and turned over to face the rainbow-maned Pegasus she loves.
Dash noticed Fluttershy seemed so comfortable and calm… unlike her usual nervous self. She loved it. It made her happy knowing that Fluttershy was comfortable around her.
They just stared into each other’s eyes for a while, until Fluttershy felt an angry tapping in her mane. Rainbow Dash looked up and noticed it was Angel. They both just giggled.
“I think he wants me to get him his breakfast,” Fluttershy said.
“Okay, mind if I come with?”
“I’d love if you did, if you want to, that is.”
Dash just smiled, Fluttershy always going back to that one habit. They both got out of bed and stretched, Fluttershy going downstairs with Angel in her mane and Dash following behind. Fluttershy gave Angel his food, and then went outside to take care of her animals. Dash came out and hugged Fluttershy. “Hey, watch this.” She went flew upwards and began doing tricks, making Fluttershy giggle.
Dash is so beautiful when she’s in the air like that. She continued to tend to her animals, the birds and the bunnies and whatever else decided to stop in, occasionally looking up when she saw a rainbow trail going just over her head. She smiled and sighed, life was perfect…
Elsewhere…
Applejack and Rarity were spending time together, talking and such as they walked towards Sugarcube Square. However they were stopped by a Pegasus, flanked by two bodyguards, that Rarity knew she knew…
“Excuse me, country ponies, but I’m looking for my sister?”
“And you are?” Rarity asked.
“Jay Canvas.”
Rarity just stared. “You’re… You’re Jay Canvas?”
Jay laughed hysterically. “So I’m known even around these remote parts!” He forced a smile. “I’m looking for my sister.” He showed Rarity and Applejack a picture, that looked a lot like…
“Fluttershy!” Applejack exclaimed.
“Yes, Fluttershy Canvas. Tell me where she is.” Jay was growing angry and impatient by the minute.
“Ah know where she be livin’. She lives over in a little cottage near the forest.”
Fluttershy is a Canvas? The famous Canvas family, and she never told me… Rarity thought to herself. I should’ve known, they look like twins…
“Thank you, now if you’d excuse me…” Jay pushed through the two, his bodyguards following, and went towards Fluttershy’s cottage.
“What do you think he’d want with Fluttershy, since I’ve never heard of them being siblings let alone her mention them, dear?” Rarity asked.
“Ah’m not sure.” Applejack responded.
Back at the cottage…
Fluttershy was watching Rainbow Dash fly around and doing tricks, when she caught something in the corner of her eye that got her attention… her full attention.
Dash looked down and noticed the twin Pegasus of Fluttershy walking towards her. She instinctively landed next to Fluttershy and watched. “Who’s that?”
“N-Nopony…” Fluttershy managed to choke out. Why is my brother here? Why now? What would he want with me after all these years?
Dash was concerned and put a hoof over Fluttershy’s shoulder, attempting to comfort her. The Pegasus was now within a few feet of Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash.
“Sister.” Jay said blankly.
“Brother.” Fluttershy said nervously.
“Glad to see you after all these years, how are you?”
“W-What do you want, Jay?”
“What makes you think I want anything?” His voice was rude and laced with mal-intent. He walked closer and Fluttershy’s legs finally gave out from nervousness and she fell down, crying and hiding her face. “Is that any way a Canvas should act? Head up!” He yelled at her, grabbing her face and pulling her up. “Answer me!” He slapped her hard, leaving a red mark across the side of her face.
This was more than too much; within seconds Jay was on the ground and Dash was on top of him, hoof clutching his collar making him choke. “Don’t you EVER touch her again, got it?” She screamed into his face. “GOT IT?”
Jay Canvas’ bodyguards seized Rainbow Dash in their grip and pulled her off, holding her down.
“Let go of me! I’m the best flier in Equestria and I’m going to be the next to join the Wonderbolts!”
“Are you, now?” Jay leaned in and whispered in his sister’s ear. Fluttershy’s eyes became wider than they ever have before, her pupils being the size of pushpins. She simply nodded and Jay smiled coldly. “Good. I hope you have a good time without your family, it isn’t like we wanted you in the first place, you’re a disgrace to the family!” With that he spat in her face and kicked her over. “And you, barbarian, you are going to be banned from ever competing in a large-scale racing event ever again. Bodyguards, let go of her. We’re done here.” They dropped Rainbow Dash and left with Jay Canvas.
“Fluttershy…” Dash immediately rushed over to her love and held her. “Are you okay? What did he tell you? Who does he think he is, doing this? Trying to ban me?” She wiped the spit and tears off of Fluttershy’s face and gently kissed the red mark on her face from where Jay slapped her.
“H-He’s my brother, um, J-Jay Canvas…” she broke down, crying even harder. “H-He’s the most well-known a-artist in all of E-Equestria…”
Dash held Fluttershy close and gently stroked her pink mane. “It’ll be okay…”
“H-He told me our mother, um, Silver C-Canvas… d-disowned me… that I-I’m a, um, disgrace…” She sniffled.
“Listen, love, I’m your family now… and I promise you’re not a disgrace. I promise you, I won’t ever hurt you, be cold to you like that or disown you… I promise you that.” She hugged Fluttershy tightly and picked her up, carrying her inside and onto the couch. “I’ll do the rest of the work today, you rest, okay?”
“O-Okay… I mean, if that’s okay with you…”
Dash simply kissed Fluttershy and smiled. “Anything for you, Fluttershy.”
Fluttershy simply smiled and curled up, falling asleep.
“So adorable…” Then she realized what she said she’d do. “Awesome. I have no idea how to any of this.” She sighed and went into the kitchen to attempt to make some dinner for her and Fluttershy.
“Wake up sleepy.” It was Dash’s voice, and there was the smell of food.
"I’m awake…”
“I made dinner for us. I hope it isn’t too horrible, I made it with what skill I do possess at cooking.”
Fluttershy opened her eyes and looked at the table that was in front of her; salad, bread and a soup of sorts adorned the top. She smiled and sat up, yawning and looking at Dash.
“Y-You shouldn’t have…”
“I knew you’d be hungry though, and you deserve a night off after all of that… please, eat. You need it.”
“T-Thank you…” Fluttershy tasted the soup and was amazed at the taste of it. “T-This is, um, great… T-Thank you...”
Dash blushed slightly and nodded. They both enjoyed the dinner and talked about random things, like the Wonderbolts and the animals that Fluttershy cares for and what they want to do in the future.
“We should really get to sleep love…” Dash said.
Fluttershy nodded, and they both put the table and dishes away, before going upstairs and laying down in bed together.
“I never want this to end,” Fluttershy said, “it’s too perfect.”
“Yeah,” Dash replied, “it’s awesome.”
They both giggled and Dash put a hoof around Fluttershy, pulling her in close to snuggle. They looked into each other’s eyes and just smiled before they both fell asleep.
7 months later…
“Do you, Rainbow Dash, take Fluttershy to be your lawfully married wife, to love and care for in both sickness and health, in tragedy and joy?”
“I do.”
“And do you, Fluttershy, take Rainbow Dash to be your lawfully married wife, to love and care for in both sickness and health, in tragedy and joy?”
“I-I do.”
“You may now kiss the bride.”
Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash kissed each other lovingly, Twilight Sparkle smiling as she watched. She had just married two of her best friends. Rarity made both of their dresses, both being absolutely gorgeous. Fluttershy wore a light yellow, flowing dress that had pink accents throughout and a tiara made of gold. Rainbow Dash wore a light blue, more modern dress, which seemed more like a suit, accented with reds and yellows and greens throughout and a light blue top hat tipped to the side, Fluttershy wore a deep rose heart-shaped necklace, while Rainbow Dash wore a cyan heart-shaped necklace; the colors of each other’s irises. They looked into each other’s eyes, and saw nothing but happiness and love. They looked out to the crowd, tail-in-tail.
Everybody was there: Derpy Doo flying around and tossing out confetti from her mailbag, Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo acting as the flower girls, Twilight Sparkle the priestess, Storm Dash, Rainbow Dash’s brother, who led her down to the altar, Rarity, Fluttershy’s best friend, led her down to the altar. Applejack and her brother Big Macintosh acted as the enforcers to make sure nobody messed with the two marebrides. Princess Celestia and Princess Luna both came, too, and gave their blessings to the newly married couple.
A wonderful tune was played as they walked down, but now there was something more upbeat – it was DJ Pon-3’s music playing. Pinkie Pie managed to get the famous DJ Pon-3 to come and play at their wedding. Pinkie Pie must know everybody, Fluttershy thought. DJ Pon-3! OH MY CELESTIA! Rainbow Dash thought. Everybody flocked to the dance floor and danced like there was no tomorrow, however at the end the DJ grabbed the mike and began to speak.
“Excuse me, can I have everybody except for the brides please move off of the dance floor. I repeat, everybody except for the brides please move off of the dance floor. Thank you.”
The crowd slowly congregated around the dance floor, leaving it wide open for Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash.
“I have something new for this couple; something I’m sure Rainbow Dash would approve to be ‘20% Cooler.’”
This evoked a blush from Dash and a calm laughter from the crowd and Fluttershy alike. A slow song came on, one the DJ called “FlutterDash,” something she had just created especially for this day. It was a slow song, but it had all the elements of DJ PON-3’s typical music: Dubstep, House, but very emotional at the same time. And unlike the rest, this one had lyrics; lyrics that Rainbow Dash memorized just to sing to Fluttershy.
And sing to her she did. “And I promise you this, nopony will ever make me feel like the way you do; and I promise you this, nopony will ever make me forget my love for you. I will always love you; love you more than Celestia loves Luna…”
Fluttershy smiled and cried tears of happiness, and hid her face in Rainbow Dash’s mane. Dash held Fluttershy close and danced with her in a slow dance, and whispered in her ear…
“This is the best day ever.”
She kissed Fluttershy’s cheek and continued to dance with her, loving the embrace of her new… wife… the thought of being able to be with Fluttershy forever was more than she could have ever asked for. She wondered why she was so lucky, but didn’t bother figuring out why; she has Fluttershy and that’s all that matters.
After the song ended, DJ PON-3 went back to her typical music and began blaring out some House music, beckoning the couple to come up to where she is, while the dance floor began to become crowded. She shook the hooves of both Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash and introduced herself as Vinyl Scratch, and that her marefriend Octavia was the one that played the music beforehand. She congratulated the both of them and told Rainbow Dash that she should help her with some new tracks sometime afterwards, and that Octavia could keep Fluttershy company in the meantime. Dash quickly agreed and squealed like a little schoolfilly. Fluttershy just giggled softly.
They danced together next to the DJ turntable, away from the giant crowd. It made Fluttershy more comfortable and Rainbow Dash was able to be near her favorite DJ, so it pleased them both to be on the higher structure.
“I love you, Dashie.”
“I love you too, Fluttershy.”
“Forever.”
“Forever.”
5 Months Later…
“What do you want to name your newly adopted foal?”
They looked at the blue-grey foal, which had a yellow mane and a wonky, yellow-lime eye, just like Derpy Doo. They looked at each other and nodded, before saying in unison:
“Ditzy Doo.”
“Just sign here… and here… and here… and congratulations, you are now the proud new parents of Ditzy Doo. Enjoy your new foal, and treat it like it was your own. Because, well, it is now.” Mayor Mare said.
“Thank you.” Rainbow Dash replied.
“Y-Yes, um, thank you.” Fluttershy responded.
Life was good. Rainbow Dash had been able to convince Vinyl Scratch to buy a house in Ponyville, which was right next to their new house. Octavia, Vinyl’s marefriend, had just given birth to a new foal of their own. Fluttershy and Octavia had become good friends, but Rarity still remained her best friend. Dash had reconciled with Pinkie Pie a few weeks before the wedding, and the Mane Six now became the Mane Eight. Rainbow Dash, with the help of Spitfire, one of her friends in the Wonderbolts, was now a part of the Wonderbolts herself. Fluttershy used her cottage still as both a retreat from the village life and a place to help injured animals.
Rainbow Dash also now helped Vinyl Scratch with her tracks by adding in suggestions and listening to them before anybody else, and Fluttershy helped Octavia take care of the foals whenever Dash and Vinyl decided to go play with their House music. When they were out with their friends, the rest of the Mane Six, Mrs. Cake was kind enough to accept taking care of the two foals.
All was well with the world.
