How They Met

[ September 3rd, 2009 // both: age 15 ]

Groaning in annoyance, Rainbow Dash sat on her haunches impatiently as her mother, Windy Whistles, forcefully yanked a comb through her daughter's untameable mane. Rainbow shuffled around on the bathroom tiles agitatedly, a fresh jolt of pain lashing at her poor scalp with each pass of the comb.

"Owwww, Mom, that hurts!" Rainbow moaned, huffing and puffing as she irritatedly waited for the harrowing ordeal to finally come to an end.

"Well, maybe if you stopped fidgeting so much, it'd hurt less!" Windy Whistles snapped back, with the tough comb still wedged sturdily between her teeth. "Sweet Celestia, when did your mane get this long?!"

"I wish you'd just chop it all off; it'd save both of us the trouble," muttered Rainbow under her heavy breaths.

"Trust me Dashie, if you did that, you'd regret it in a heartbeat," stated Windy, giving one last yank at Dash's multicoloured tresses before securing it into a high flowing ponytail, leaving her fringe out at the front. "Done."

When she realised that her torture was finally no more, Rainbow's heart skipped a million beats as she scampered down the flight of stairs leading to the front door.

"Dad, dad!" she exclaimed, bouncing around erratically with excitement. "C'mon, I'm gonna be late!"

Bow Hothoof hovered out of the family's spacious living room, his 15-year-old daughter's saddle-bag lodged in his muzzle, "Are you forgetting something, princess?" He softly tossed the bag over to Rainbow, who sheepishly giggled before mounting the saddle-pack on her back.

"Heheh, thanks Dad," she said. "Anyway, can we get going?! I don't wanna be late for my first day of Flight School!".

"Okay, okay, come on then," grinned Bow, nudging open the front door. "Bye, honey!"

"Bye, Mom!" called out Rainbow Dash.

"See you two later!" hollered Windy from the bathroom upstairs.

The father-daughter duo took flight into the crisp morning air, sharing various jokes and giggling to each other until they eventually reached the official Wonderbolt Flight Academy; a specialised school where young mares and stallions from ages 15-18 can train to become a Wonderbolt while also learning the basic lesson such as Literacy, Mathematics, Science and Equestrian History. However, not everypony who attends the flight school is guaranteed a spot on the elite flight team, so Rainbow Dash was determined to work as hard as she had ever worked before to be selected as one of 'the best of the best'.

As Rainbow Dash and her father entered the immense building, they were promptly greeted by the receptionist pony at the front desk. As soon as she realised the two were waiting for her service, she immediately propped her glasses up her muzzle and plastered a cheesy grin across her face.

"Good morning, and welcome to the Wonderbolts Flight Academy! My name is Super Stream, how may I help you this beautiful Monday morning?" inquired Super Stream, the unusual amount of fake cheeriness in her voice enough to make both Rainbow Dash and Bow Hothoof cringe.

"Good morning, I'm here for the full tour of the Academy for the newly enrolled students," explained Bow, resting the upper half of his body on the marble desk.

"Of course! If you could just tell me the name and date of birth of your daughter over there?"

"Rainbow Jennifer Dash, 1st February '94."

"Hmmm..." Super Stream's tongue crept out of her mouth out of habit as she closely scanned the enormous book of enrollments, before her face lit up with an 'Aha!' expression, "Yep, here we are! Right through these doors, sir!"

With the press of a button hidden beneath the marble desk, a pristine set of glass doors slid open, beckoning Bow and his over-excited daughter to enter, which they obviously did. Rainbow's eyes could barely keep up with the extravagant sight before her.

The academy was like nothing awe-struck Rainbow had ever seen before in her entire life. It was populated entirely by various pegasi, ranging from the required age of 15-18 years old, all with a unique and different style to them. Some with short manes, some with long, flowing manes and even some with no manes at all. Some ponies had coats of colours that Rainbow didn't even know existed. To the right of her was an extensive flight of stairs, which above it was a sign reading:

~ Wonderbolts Flight Academy, for the gifted and talented pegasi of Celestia's Equestria ~

-1 : Indoor Practicing Grounds, Showers, Changing Rooms
0 : Front Reception, Medical Office, (Outdoors: Outdoor Practicing Grounds)
1 : Cafeteria, Dormitories
2 : Classrooms, Library
3 : Headmaster Wing's Office, Teachers' Lounge

* lavatories on every floor *

Rainbow scrunched her muzzle profusely, she had no idea what a lavatory was, but she was sure as hell she'd soon find out. Still taking in their alluring surroundings, they trotted into the library, which had a hand-made banner above it with the words 'Full Academy Tour This Way!' painted in bold, red block-capital letters. Inside the library, were many other pegasi, the same age as Rainbow Dash, scattered around sitting with their parents. She could only assume that they were going to be some of the ponies she would be spending the next three or so years with.

"Ahem, attention please, everypony!" a brightly coloured, purple maned pegasus suddenly hovered into everypony's view, wearing thick-rimmed geek glasses and a shirt collar-and-tie combo. "Mares and gentlecolts, welcome to the Wonderbolts Flight Academy! My name is Daisy Meadows, and I am going to be your tour guide for today. I hope everypony is ready, because this academy is jam-packed with facilities, making it very easy to get lost, so you all better be listening to what I'm saying!"

"First of all, we're going to do a 'get to know each other' exercise, so if the parents can go to that," she gestured to a table riddled with tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes, "table over there, that would be amazing, thank you!"

As the group of parents huddled away to the refreshment table, Daisy Meadows cheerfully led the young mares and stallions to a carpeted area and ushered them to all take a seat in a circle, preferably next to somepony they didn't already know prior to this day. Scanning the collection of about 20 to 30 ponies for the coolest-looking one, Rainbow eventually settled on plopping herself beside a mare with a pink coat and short electric blue hair. Rainbow took a sudden liking to that particular mane-cut, wishing her own hair could be as awesome as that.

"Nice mane," said Rainbow, shuffling on the carpet to make herself comfortable.

"Thanks, I like yours as well. I've never seen anypony with a rainbow mane before!" grinned the pegasus.

Impatiently, Daisy Meadows blew into the metallic whistle dangling from her neck, causing the young ponies to wince in pain and stuff their hooves in their ears. "Now, that got your attention, didn't it! Make sure you always give every teacher or instructor your full attention at all times; otherwise, they'll do the same thing I just did, but with 20 times more force and volume. Anyways, on with the activity...you!" she pointed head-on at a colt with an almost black coat and silvery streaked mane, "Why don't you start us off! What's your name, young stallion?"

"The name's Thunderlane," purred Thunderlane, urging a few suggestive giggles from a couple of the other mares.

"Anything you'd like to tell us about yourself, Thunderlane?" asked Daisy, more enthusiastic than the actual students.

"I'm super cool, awesome and a total ladies man!" he attempted to wink seductively, but it ended up looking like he had something stuck in his eye and was trying to get it out. Clearly unimpressed, Rainbow rolled her eyes in unison with the mare sitting beside her, which caused them to giggle at the fact that they had the same train of thought.

"What an idiot, he's so full of himself!" guffawed Rainbow quietly and her companion nodded in agreement.

"What about you, dear?" Daisy was now pointing directly at the electric-blue mane mare beside Rainbow, who chuckled sheepishly.

"Oh, I'm Firefly. Las Pegasus born and raised, just moved here to Cloudsdale after I got accepted to the academy," explained Firefly, her Las Pegagus accent beginning to reveal itself as she spoke.

Next to introduce themselves was Rainbow Dash, who boasted about her father being a retired Wonderbolt leader, then Spitfire, Wave Chill, Fleetfoot, Blaze, Fire Streak and a whole bunch of other ponies that were so lacklustre in terms of personality that Rainbow Dash had practically fallen asleep during the last part of the introductions. When she came back to her senses, there was still one pony left to introduce himself.

He dramatically rose from his haunches, immediately catching Dash's attention, before introducing himself, "Hey everypony, I'm Soarin Skies, but just call me Soarin. My mom is the famous business executive of Sike sports supplies and she also owns the chain cafe Cloudy's Cloud Cakes...but much to her dismay, my favourite food is pie!"

"Ooooh!" Firefly nudged her new-found friend in the shoulder. "Famous parents, probably rich and cute, score!"

"Ehhh, I'm not into the whole dating thing," muttered Rainbow, blowing her floppy fringe from her eyes. "Plus, I bet he's probably really stuck up or a total tryhard like that Thunderlane guy."

"Well, each to their own, I guess..." Firefly mumbled, her eyes still drawn to Soarin Skies, who was hitting it off with the rest of the mares in the group. "I'm gonna go shoot my shot before one of those mares gets to him!"

And with that, Rainbow Dash watched downheartedly as her friend scampered off to the boastful colt. Although Rainbow was hooves-down one of the most confident, assertive ponies to probably exist, when it came to flirting or anything to do with a relationship, her mind went completely blank. As she grew older, she watched as her friends got into a relationship after relationship, and she was always the single one. She always just played it off as 'not being interested' when in reality she had absolutely no idea how to flirt. Sure, she's had a fair share of crushes herself, and even when the feelings were mutual, she couldn't bring herself to take it that one big step further.

The longer Rainbow watched Soarin, the more attractive he began to seem; much cuter than any of the other stallions she had ever met in her life, no wonder there were so many mares drooling all over him. With his adorably slightly curly, navy blue mane, pale blue coat, emerald green eyes and a cocky grin, what wasn't there to love about him? All Rainbow needed to know now was his personality...if he was assertive, confident and smart-mouthed like her, that would be the icing on the cake...well, in this instance, pie.

With the group of thirsty mares slobbering all over him, Soarin chuckled nervously and shuffled around in the little breathing space he had left in an attempt to escape his uncomfortable ordeal. His eyes were still locked on the rainbow-haired mare plopped on her haunches a couple metres from him. Rainbow Dash, that was her name. Confused, Soarin watched closely as she mumbled something to herself, and it wasn't until a couple extensive minutes later that the two realised that they had been staring at each other the entire time. Embarrassed, Rainbow suddenly lashed her head away, attempting but miserably failing to conceal her heated, crimson flushed cheeks. Soarin chuckled to himself, a blush also creeping onto his face.

'Damn' he thought to himself, still staring as a cocky grin made its way onto his muzzle. 'She's cute."

Confessing Feelings

[ January 31st 2010 // both: age 15 ]

Bubbling beads of sweat rolled like bowling balls down Rainbow's forehead, as she stood semi-confidently before the Academy bathroom mirror, preparing herself for what she was about to do. She had made a bet with herself to confess her feelings to Soarin before her birthday, and today was her last chance to fulfil this.

"C'mon, Rainbow, snap out of it! You can do this, you can do this!" she abundantly pumped herself up, practising about a hundred different smiles and facial expressions in the smudge-covered mirror. "All ya gotta do is say you like him...Omigosh I can't do this!"

"Yes, you can!" insisted Firefly, leaning against the row of sinks which were just as grimy as the mirror.

"I agree with Crierfly, dude," agreed Spitfire, who was skillfully avoiding even placing a hoof on the nasty sludge plaguing the bathroom. "Eww, why are we even in here, again?"

"Because it's the only private place in the entire academy, plus, I need to prepare myself!" Rainbow cried, hurling her throbbing head into her clammy hooves. "Gah, I'm getting a damn headache!"

Smugly, Spitfire smirked before raising a single eyebrow, "That's 'cause you're overthinking! Trust me, I've known Clipper since I could barely even walk, he's a cool guy. He'll appreciate it more if you just tell him outright, not all this sappy business you're trying to come up with."

"I know, I know," sighed Rainbow, resting her hooves on the wall. "But what if it all goes wrong?! I mean, what if he doesn't like me back? Or I say something that'll scare him off? Maybe I might look really ugly up close! What if he realises I'm ugly?!"

Groaning aloud in frustration, Firefly had finally had enough of her best friend's irritating rambling, "That's it! Listen, Crash, nothing is gonna go wrong. Have you seen the way he looks at you?! He's in love! Between Shitfire and I, we've caught him staring at you at least a hundred times since we've been at the academy. Also, you're not ugly, in fact, you're about a million light years away from being ugly! So just trust us, go out there and get yourself a coltfriend!"

"Woah," mumbled Spitfire, in a state of complete shock from Firefly's persuasive speech.

"Yeah, I have a knack for getting my point across," Firefly winked, before prying Rainbow from the now sweat-imprinted wall and shoving her outside the bathroom, into the hallway leading to the shared dormitories. As soon as Rainbow was launched out of the lavatory like an Angry Bird, Soarin came strolling past as if on cue.

"Oh, Crash, I was just looking for you, I need to tell you...something!" Soarin cried out, jittering around nervously, exactly like the mare standing before him.

"O-oh, um, h-hey Clipper! I-I need to tell you s-something too!" Rainbow's forehead was glistening with buckets of perspiration, her heart racing with such speed that she was quite surprised she hadn't had a heart attack by now.

"Ummm, let's just say it on three, okay?" suggested Soarin. Now was the moment that could make or break their future relationship, the three words that could possibly ruin everything they had prior to this day were suddenly let loose from their cages. "Three, two, one..."

"I like you!" the pair shouted in unison, as they both shared the relieving feeling of the 10kg dumbbell weight being miraculously lifted from their shoulders. Rainbow stumbled back in shock while Soarin stopped in his tracks, slackjawed.

"W-wha?!" Soarin was incredulous, blinking profusely as if this were some inconceivable dream, and he had to wake up instantly otherwise he'd get his hopes up too far. "Sweet Celestia, am I dreaming?"

"I..I..." the words Rainbow tried to form in her head came out as mushy as mushy peas, her tongue suddenly giving away and limiting her ability to speak.

"Are you for real? Like, is this a prank? Please tell me this isn't a prank!" begged Soarin with widening eyes. He thought about how his dreams would be crushed if this all turned out to be some stupid stunt Rainbow pulled off with the help of her friends. Thankfully for him, Rainbow Dash shook her head vigorously, still unable to speak properly.

"Oh, phew...anyways then Crash, can I, like, talk to you later? Like after dinner, can we go to my dorm, to talk, I mean," asked Soarin, a hint of nervousness creeping up his spine once again.

"S-sure, okay," Rainbow managed to blurt out, her face painted red.

"Awesome, I'll see you later,then--" Soarin slowly crept closer to Rainbow and brushed his muzzle against her ear, sending shivers down her back. "--Babe."

Rainbow Dash's eyes boggled in disbelief, watching as Soarin trotted back down the hallway to the dorms, probably off to spill everything to his eagerly-waiting friends. Mind racing, she swung open the bathroom door to reveal both Spitfire and Firefly spilling onto the ground.

"Oof!" huffed Spitfire as she catapulted to the floor beside Firefly, who was beginning to climb back to her hooves.

"Were you guys eavesdropping?" questioned Rainbow, raising an eyebrow quizzically.

"Yeah.." admitted Firefly, wincing in pain as she rubbed her throbbing head with one hoof. "But that's not the point, we're so happy for you!"

"Totally, especially when he called you babe! Ahhhh!" squealed Spitfire, bouncing around with excitement.

Rainbow's jaw lodged itself open, "Wait, you heard that?!"

"Yeah, it was soooo cute!" squee'd Firefly, and soon all three mares were jumping up and down in pure joy like a bunch of schoolfillies after getting invited to a birthday party. After realising how girly they all looked, the came to a sudden halt, their faces tinted crimson.

"Let's never do that again," stated Spitfire, returning back to her badass self.

"Agreed."

After a jam-packed day of Equestrian History, learning about Commander Hurricane, Biology, which included dissecting a frog and hours upon hours of outdoor flight drills, Rainbow Dash eventually found herself at the bustling cafeteria with Spitfire, Firefly and Fleetfoot, digging into a mouth-wateringly delicious veggie burger each.

"So, Rainbow," started Fleetfoot, gulping down a rather big bite of veggie burger. "What's it like being the hottest colt in Class One's marefriend, huh?"

"How does everyone know about this?" grumbled Rainbow. "And I'm not his marefriend...yet."

"Well, I guess Soarin couldn't keep his muzzle shut, cause I heard it from High Winds, who heard it from Lightning Streak, who overheard Silver Zoom talking about it, who apparently was told by Misty Fly, who--"

"Oh, great," groaned Rainbow, slamming her face into her hoof. "So basically the entire academy knows?"

"Yep, pretty much," Fleetfoot took another bite of her meal. "So, you guys got any plans after dinner? Sleepover, anyone?"

"I'm down for that," replied Firefly, looking to Spitfire, who nodded as well. They both averted their gaze to Rainbow Dash, who was busy stuffing her muzzle with remains of veggie burger.

"Hmmph? Oh, sorry, I can't. I'm going to Soarin's dorm after dinner," she explained, bringing on a chorus of 'Ooooooh!'s from her friends. "You can chill out okay, we're not gonna do, ya know, whatever is it that you're thinking."

"Oooo, look at you, not even using his nickname!" Spitfire winked, enticing a grumble out of Rainbow Dash. The quartet finished off their meals before the intercom sounded around the entire academy.

"The cafeteria will close in ten minutes, I repeat the cafeteria will close in ten minutes."

"That's my cue, guys," Rainbow rose from the round, plastic seat and turned towards the exit. "I'll see you all tomorrow."

A couple of 'Bye, Crash!'s rang through the cafeteria as Rainbow trotted out of the cafeteria, the transition from the greasy aroma of veggie burgers to the overpowering smell of cleaning products causing her nose to sting. Fighting back chemically induced tears, Rainbow made her way to Soarin's dorm, knocking softly on the wooden door which was painted pure white with a striking yellow lighting bolt plastered in the middle.

"It's open!" hollered Soarin from inside the room, inviting Rainbow inside. Carefully, she nudged open the door and made her way inside, locking it behind her. "Oh, hey Dash!" he called out from atop his bed

"Hey, Soar!" greeted Rainbow, plopping her haunches on Soarin's bed, getting herself comfy.

Soarin chuckled at how fast Rainbow was becoming comfortable around him, "'Soar', huh? Already making nicknames for me, and we aren't even dating yet!"

"Oh, sorry--" apologised Rainbow, looking away to her hooves as Soarin abruptly cut her off.

"You apologise too much, what's up?" Soarin adorably cocked his head, a couple stray curls falling over his forehead.

"Sorry, it's--" Soarin glared playfully at Rainbow's constant need to apologise. "I mean, it's just that, even though you probably think I'm all awesome and cool and stuff, when it comes to this, ya know, dating thing I'm a complete doofus...like I have absolutely no idea what to say to a colt to make them, like, really like me. It's hard to explain, okay?!"

"Well," Soarin brushed a stray hoof against Rainbow's fluffy cheek. "I think you did a pretty good job explaining. Honestly, I could care less about all that sappy, lovey-dovey stuff. You just being you makes me like you."

"That's easy for you to say," Rainbow grumbled, crossing her hooves like toddler after being refused candy. "You're like, the Mare-Whisperer. Even when you just touch my cheek I get all tingly inside..."

Soarin chuckled softly again, "I guess it's just God-given talent, then. Anyway, can I ask, when did you start...ya know, liking me?"

"Umm..." Rainbow pondered. "Remember when we all went on that tour, the first time we all met each other? That day, when we were all sitting in the library and I...I couldn't stop staring at you, it's like my eyes were just drawn to you, I guess."

"Same, I was just like 'Dang, who is that smokin' hawt mare?'" imitated Soarin, which enticed a belly-laugh from Rainbow.

"Me? Smokin' hot?" she asked rhetorically, flopping herself on her back, over Soarin's lap. "Never."

"You gotta stop underselling yourself, Dashie. I mean, when you finally become a Wonderbolt and somepony says you're awesome, are you gonna say no? ...Dash?"

On a one-way ride on her train of thoughts, Rainbow stared lifelessly up at the ceiling, before suddenly snapping out of her trance, "Hmm?"

"Nothing, you just spaced out. Is something wrong?" asked Soarin as he fiddled with his soon-to-be marefriend's mane in his hooves.

"That nickname, Dashie. My mom calls me that, it's cringy!" squirmed Rainbow, scrunching her muzzle as if she'd just smelled month old gym socks.

"Well I think it's adorable, what does your dad call you?"

"Princess..."

"Aww, cute, Princess Dashie!" teased Soarin, chortling with laughter.

Rolling her eyes, Rainbow grumbled, "Ugh, whatever. Anyways, can I ask, what are we?"

"What?" questioned Soarin, perplexed.

"I mean, what are we, relationship wise. Like, are we coltfriend and marefriend, or what?"

"Obviously, I thought we established that a couple hours ago!"

"Yeah, but, you never really asked me properly..." A squeak escaped Rainbow's muzzle as she desperately attempted to avoid awkward eye contact with Soarin.

Rolling his emerald green orbs playfully, Soarin recited, "Well then, Rainbow Dash, would you like to be my lawfully wedded marefriend?"

"I do, duh!" giggled Rainbow, snuggling closer to her coltfriend. "Sweet Celestia, I'd never ever thought I'd be saying this in my entire life, but I really do like you, Soar. I always thought I was too cool for a dumb relationship."

"I really like you too, Dashie," Soarin planted a quick kiss on Rainbow's forehead as she climbed off of the bed to return to her dorm, shared with Firefly. "I'll catch you tomorrow?"

"Yeah, tomorrow," Rainbow swung open the front door, and a pile of Spitfire, Firefly and Fleetfoot spilt into the room, each of them giggling sheepishly and ruby red creeping onto their cheeks. "You were eavesdropping again?!"

Meeting Her Parents!

[ May 16th 2010 // both:16 ]

The aromatic, sweet spring air filled the lungs of Rainbow Dash and her coltfriend of almost four months, Soarin, as they peacefully flew side-by-side towards Northern Cloudsdale, the area of Rainbow Dash's former residence before she began living at the Academy. They were on their way to introduce Soarin to her parents, and finally spill the beans about their relationship.

Mid-flight, Soarin sighed heavily to himself, his eyes glued to the clear sky ahead of him, "Babe, what if your parent's don't like me? What if they don't think I'm good enough for you? I mean, I'm not the smartest pony or the fastest, I'm just pretty average."

"Oh, puh-lease, they're gonna love you!" reassured Rainbow, imagining how her parents would surely hit it off with her coltfriend. Everything would hopefully turn out perfect, but Rainbow's parents could be quite unpredictable, so she wasn't really all that sure about how this afternoon was going to unfold. "And even if you're average, being average is more than enough for me."

"Heh, thanks Dashie," Soarin blushed slightly, his tensed muscles eventually loosening. "Hey, let's race, the last one to your house has gotta treat the winner to lunch!"

"Bad, idea, Soarin. You know I never lose! Thanks in advance for that lunch!" jeered Rainbow, before immediately increasing her speed momentum, hammering her arms to her sides so that she could easily swim through the air without an ounce of trouble. She had zoomed off with such immense speed that all that was left in her tracks was a fading streak of rainbow.

Smugly, Soarin chuckled to himself, his plan was to take Rainbow out on a date to her favourite restaurant anyways, so he thought he might as well just make a game out of it. He increased his speed slightly and after about twenty minutes, he eventually arrived at the cloud mansion that was Rainbow's childhood home. Quite comically, he found Rainbow Dash sprawled out on a cloud nearby, snoring thunderously.

"Err, Dashie?" he nudged his marefriend in her shoulder, jolting her back into consciousness.

Yawning dramatically, Rainbow stretched her arms out with a cringe-worthy crack, "Oh sorry, you took so long that I literally fell asleep waiting. What took you so long, anyway?"

"Ah, well, I let you win on purpose, I was gonna take you out for lunch anyway," explained Soarin, flicking a section of his curly mane out of his eyes.

"Soooo, a date?" asked Rainbow with beckoning eyes, she knew the answer already, but just needed to hear it from Soarin.

"Yeah, a date," Soarin chuckled, hovering off the cloud towards Rainbow's front door. "Am I gonna meet them or not?"

Her face lighting up with an 'Oh yeah!' expression, Rainbow followed Soarin to the front door and gave a profuse knock. Suddenly, the cloud-door swung open to reveal two respectively middle-aged ponies, known by the names Bow Hothoof and Windy Whistles.

"Mom! Dad!" cried Rainbow, throwing herself forwards and embracing her family in a welcoming hug. "I missed you guys so much!"

"We missed you too, princess," Bow Hothoof choked on his emotions, wiping a joyful tear from his eye. "And who is this fine, young stallion, eh?"

"Oh!" Rainbow promptly remembered that she still had Soarin to present to her parents. "This is Soarin, my coltfriend."

Eyes welling up with tears of bliss that her precious daughter was growing up, Windy gushed, "Aww, my little Dashie is finally growing up! Well, come on in you two, I can put some snacks out. Do you like cherry pie, Soarin?"

"Yes, ma'am!" Soarin grinned, his eyes lighting up like a torch at the mention of the word 'pie'.

"Oh, please dear, just call me Windy!" the cyan mare chuckled as she trotted back inside the giant mansion, leading everypony to the kitchen to sit themselves down. She whisked open the humming, blue refrigerator, which was covered in various stick-figure and crayon drawings noted with the names 'Rainbow Dash' and 'Rainbow Blaze, and yanked out a silver tin of fresh cherry pie.

"Freshly baked by me this morning!" Windy carefully placed the glistening sweet treat on the rounded dining table. "Go on, dig in."

Without even having to be told twice, Soarin eagerly grabbed a sweet slice of the baked good and gobbled down the entire slice in a single bite, "Woah, this pie is awesome! And you said you made this all yourself?"

"Yep, down to the t!"

"Ya know, I could refer you to my mother, Cloudy Skies, she owns Cloudy's Cloud Cakes. She could rebrand and Cloudy Skies and Windy's Pies!"

"Oh! Aha, I'm flattered," Windy blushed slightly at the compliment that she was as good as a baker to be able to work for the Queen of Cakes, Cloudy Skies. As Soarin continued to inhale another two slices of pie, Bow Hothoof's gaze transformed to a prickly glare at Soarin, wondering whether this greedy goofball of a stallion was suitable enough for his precious princess.

"Hey, um, princess?" he spoke up, averting his cold stare from the young stallion opposite him. "Are you sure you're thinking this through properly? I mean, this whole relationship thing..."

"Dad, I'm sixteen, did you expect me to wait until I was, like, thirty to get a coltfriend?" grumbled Rainbow, rolling her eyes.

All of a sudden, a forceful gust of wind gushed into the kitchen, revealing a wide-eyed grinning stallion in the shadows, "I'm hoooooome! Wait, Dash?!"

"Blaze?!" Rainbow was incredulous, literally catapulting herself off of her seat and pouncing on the other the stallion, who had a striking resemblance to Rainbow Dash, from the coat to the mane, up to the eyes. "Oh my Celestia, it's been months! How are you? How's school?"

"I know, it's been ages! I'm really good, I got on the Varsity Speedsters! And I got accepted for Las Pegasus College!" announced Rainbow Blaze, taking a dramatic bow before averting his gaze to Soarin, who was awkwardly still trying to figure out who this miraculous genderbend of Dash was.

Realising that Soarin had no idea who the random colt who had just burst into the kitchen was, she briskly spoke up, "Soarin, this is my brother...my twin brother, Rainbow Blaze. Blaze, this is my coltfriend, Soarin Skies."

"Soarin Skies, eh? So, how much did she pay you to date her, huh?" questioned Rainbow Blaze, jokingly, receiving a playful punch from his red-faced sister. "I'm just kidding! It's awesome to meet you, dude."

"Same here, bro," Soarin grinned, hoof-bumping Rainbow Blaze. "Hey, tell me about the Varsity Speedsters; I always loved that team!"

The rest of the pleasant afternoon consisted of Soarin and Rainbow Blaze engaging in an almost hour-long conversation about the Varsity Speedsters, Bow Hothoof questioning Soarin to see whether he was fit to date his precious daughter, and Windy Whistles making about two more pies for the family to snack on. After about a couple more eventful hours, the cool May night was beginning to fall over Equestria, and Rainbow Dash realised that the two should be getting back to the Academy before complete nightfall.

"This was like, the best day ever!" cheered Rainbow Dash, as she embraced Soarin, her mother, father and brother in one last comforting family hug before they left. "Promise you'll visit us next time?"

"Of course, princess," reassured Bow Hothoof, planting a fatherly kiss on his daughter's forehead before turning his attention to Soarin. "I trust you'll take care of her."

"Thank you, sir!" Soarin saluted, before exchanging goodbyes with the remaining two Rainbow family members. Once they had given each other a good enough sending off, Soarin and Rainbow Dash took off into the sky towards the Wonderbolts Academy.
