VII: First Glimpse

The sun was bright when Sweetie awoke nearly two weeks later. She had been up late studying for one of her magic test, though this one was all stuff Twilight had taught her. She had to make sure she kept her grades up and kept her scholarship, after all. Silver had been up just as late, studying for an economics test. Sweetie had tried to help her new friend, but the mare just didn't seem to understand.

Tomorrow she would be going back to Ponyville. She had even convinced Silver to come as well. She had considered asking Karat to come along, but everytime she thought of it, what Apple Bloom and Silver Spoon had said rang through her ears.

Sweetie had watched the blue-maned Pegasus, trying to see what the others did, but she just didn't see it. She did notice Karat turning Silver down anytime the earth pony suggested they hang out, though. She rolled out of bed and looked around the dorm. It was hard to believe the term was nearly half over, and yet here it was. Silver was still asleep in bed, which probably wasn't good.

Sweetie walked over and poked her. "Silver, wake up." The pony mumbled something and snuggled more deeply into her bed. The unicorn poked her again. "Silver, wake up. You're late for class."

The grey mare snorted and sat up. "I don't even care. I'm going to fail that test anyway. It doesn't matter." She flopped back down onto the bed. "I'm just going to fail and let dad yell at me. I don't even care anymore."

Sweetie sighed. "What time is the class?"

"Nine."

Sweetie grinned. "Good, you have an hour to get ready. You might not be able to revise, but that can't be helped. Or maybe you won't shower."

Silver stood and shook her head. "You aren't going to let me rest, are you? I used to think Scootaloo and Apple Bloom were joking when they said you were just as much of an egghead as Twilight." The earth pony just shrugged and made her way into the bathroom, causing Sweetie Belle to groan. She really should have gone before waking Silver up.

She stood up, her mind only wanting to concentrate on the one thing she couldn't do at the moment. Karat would let her in to use the bathroom. She rushed over to her friends room, and hastily knocked on the door. Karat's unicorn roommate, Gwen, opened the door. "Oh, hi. Karat's out at the hoofball field."

"Oh, I just need the bathroom, please? Silver's taken over ours."

Gwen smiled, but stood aside to allow Sweetie in. "Thank you," she said gratefully as she practically ran to the bathroom. She looked around the dorm as she came out. Unsurprisingly, the dorm was just like the one she shared with Silver. She had never actually been in Karat's dorm, since she liked to be outside a lot.

Thanking Gwen again, Sweetie went back to her dorm. The morning passed without incident, unless Sweetie practically shoving Silver into her Economics class counted as in incident. Sweetie's thoughts drifted to Ponyville, and what she would do when she got there. Two days didn't seem long enough, but it was all she had at the moment. She was sure Apple Bloom had the day all planned out, but if it wasn't just walking around town and being nostalgic, she didn't know what it would be. That was probably the reason she had only came up with a hooffull of their crusading plans, actually.

She walked into her history class thinking about her trip. She was early, of course. The professor enjoyed talking to her ever since Rarity had announced they were sisters. He spoke to her for a few moments, becoming excited when she said she was going home for the weekend. He asked if she could convince the Elements to come one at a time and speak.

She shook her head, but told him she would mention the idea. Although the thoughts of asking Fluttershy to talk to an entire room full of people was amusing. She looked around for Karat, but didn't see the Pegasus anywhere. Probably still out in the hoofball field, she thought.

The slightly annoying purple unicorn stallion who normally sat in the back of the class sat next to her, in Karat's normal seat. "I'm Glimpse," he said with a grin. "I couldn't help but notice your friends seat was empty, and I didn't want you to feel lonely."

Sweetie rolled her eyes and ignored him. He noticed the eye-roll and smirked, flipping his dark blond mane out of his eyes. "You know, you could be a little nicer. I'm just trying to make a friend." His smirk stayed as he said it.

Sweetie was torn. Of course, being raised around Twilight Sparkle had rubbed off on her. Friendship is very important. But this stallion had a stupid smug smirk on his face that she was determined to wipe off.

"Yeah, sorry. Thought you might have been looking for something other than friendship, but okay. Friends it is."

Glimpse blinked as his smirk slowly fell from his face.  "You-I-"

"And since we're friends now, you won't mind letting me pay attention to the lesson, would you? Class is about to start." It was Sweetie's turn to smirk as he slowly turned his head to the front of the class and slumped down into his seat. Next Chapter: VIII: Train Ride Estimated time remaining: 1 Hour, 27 Minutes
