“That’s really disappointing, Twilight,” you chastise. “This is a really critical point in the project to be running off on frivolous activities.”

“I know, I know,” Twilight groans, lowering her head in shame and squinting in pain. “I promise, I’ll work extra hard tonight to pick up the slack.”

“As if it will be possible.” You crumple up your muzzle in faux derision. “This is a huge step back for us.”

“I promise I’ll make up the time!” she insists.

“Whatever,” you scoff, waving her off with a hoof. “Go and waste your time while I work.”

Twilight raises her head again. “My friends are not a waste of time!”

“They are compared to this,” you bite back, returning your attention to the book in front of you.

Twilight lets out a single, incredulous chuckle. “My friends are why I’m where I am now! Why I can take you on as a partner. I can’t believe how you’re acting!”

You ignore her and continue to read.

“You know what? Fine,” Twilight huffs, trotting towards the far doors of the library. “Keep working on your precious little project. I’m sure it will be there to comfort you when you need it most.”

The slamming of a door signifies her exit.
