Chapter 1: 1. Something Lost

It had been a good few years since the Pacific Ocean opened with a gateway to another dimension just underneath our planet. I was eight when the first Kaiju came ashore on our surface, attacking cities and towns with no intention to stop. After that attack from the Kaiju, the governments began to establish a new order of where mankind comes together to defeat the horrible Kaiju that continues to attack our homes and lands.

After I turned twelve, I was recruited alongside my brother in the Jaeger program. We worked as a team, defeating many Kaiju along the way. Some other teams also defeated a lot of Kaiju from their part of the whole program. The Jaeger pilots became rockstars. We were interviewed many times, even me and my brother.

Until one day..

I awoke abruptly after a voice echoed through the building of the headquarters of the Jaeger program. I got up as soon as I had woken up, rushing to my brother, Chet's side as I began to hit him with my hands.

"C'mon, bro, wake up!" I called. "Another Kaiju has come ashore from the Breach. Now's not the time to be a sleepy-head."

He groaned as he woke from his slumber. "What time is it?" He grumbled.

For someone like my brother, he's awfully grumpy in the morning.

"Seven thirty," I replied as I checked the clock.

"That early?" Chet asked again. "What category of a Kaiju are we dealing with?"

"A category Five, one of the biggest ones yet," I answered, tossing him his shirt as he grabbed it.

Chet was about to leave when he turned to look at me from behind. "Hey, kid!"

"Yeah?" I called back.

"Don't get cocky."

Hardy-har.

After a while of getting dressed, we left our chamber as we walked through the corridor to our Jaeger. We walked over to a gate that was opened for us and, as soon as we stepped through, it began to close.

"We're about to kick some ass," Chet called joyfully.

We got prepared as we were in our white suits, looking terrific as we stepped onto a panel in the middle of the head of our Jaeger. We put our helmets on as a voice echoed through them, as the yellow in the helmet moved down so that we could see where we was going.

A few people got our suits closed as we were locked onto the panel that was the controller of our Jaeger, Gipsy Danger.

"Hello, boys!" A voice called from somewhere in the control room.

"Mandel, my boy," Chet said. "How are you and the girls?"

Of course he would ask that.

"Oh, my wife is fine, so is the kid," Mandel replied

As Mandel was busy talking with the chief of our Jaeger program, and started the countdown, Chet and I looked at each other.

"You worried?" He asked.

"Not one bit," I smiled at him confidently.

"Don't get too confident," Chet warned. "There will be consequences, you know."

"I know," I responded back as I looked away from him as I took in a breath to calm myself. A mental link appeared through my mind.

The Jaeger program has a mental link between two pilots, a shared mind. The greater your mind, the better you fight.

A movement got me out of my thoughts as I looked straight ahead.

My brother and I heard what Mandel was telling us to do.

"Okay, boys, here's the deal," he told us. "You have to go rescue a ship that's in danger from the new Kaiju. Once you got it to safety, you'll have to fight and destroy the Kaiju from causing any potential havoc."

"No problem," Chet said smugly. "It'll be a piece of cake."

I wouldn't be too sure about that...

We moved our arms up for a bit, making them connect as the Gipsy's arms did what we were doing. Lowering our arms, the robot's arms also lowered.

"Here we go." That's right, Chet.

We started to walk in the waves, as our Jaeger was making its way to our location.

There's one thing that no one can defeat. If you are near a thunder storm, all you have to do is walk around, and you'll be alright. But, once you're in a Jaeger, suddenly, you can fight back.

Coming up from seeing the Kaiju near the ship, my brother and I began to lift the harmless ship up as we got it to safety as the Kaiju growled angrily at us.

The Kaiju's appearance was slightly different than most Kaiju. It had dark gray skin, a sharp and long head piece, as well as strong and powerful arms and legs. Its tail also looked quite strong.

"Let's get ready to rumble!" Chet cried cheerfully as we began to brawl with the Kaiju.

The Kaiju charged in first, attacking our Jaeger with its powerful arms before it went for a tail swipe. We were sent backwards for a bit, but maintained our physical state clearly. The Kaiju made another tail attack, but this time, our Jaeger grabbed the tail and started to loosen the grip as the Kaiju was flung back a bit.

Me and my brother piloted the Gipsy with great skill and naturally got the Kaiju back for a few meters in the raging waves of the ocean near Alaska. Continuing to pilot Gipsy, we worked together to bring down the Kaiju after a while of struggle.

But, as we were in close range, the Kaiju began to go in for the kill. It pierced through the arm of our Jaeger, as I let out a painful cry as my arm was stuck and paralyzed from the sudden move of the Kaiju.

"It's breaking through!" Chet cried out as he noticed the Kaiju biting its way to us. Chet quickly looked at me with an unreadable expression. "Daniel, listen to me! You have to-" He was thrown out of the controller of the Jaeger as I cried out for my brother.

"NO!" I yelled helplessly, as I struggled to get the controller into my other free hand. I managed, as I began to scream out in anger as tears started to form from my blue eyes. "YOU'LL PAY!" A blue light started to form in Gipsy's unbroken arm as it was aimed directly at the Kaiju, as something happened I wasn't expecting.

Slowly walking to a snowy beach, I let the Jaeger I was piloting fell down on the surface of the cold beach as I managed to get out of the robot, looking badly beaten up. I had bruises and cuts all over my body while my suit was torn as well.

I saw two humans nearby, one of them was no doubt the boy's elder. I soon fell on my back and blacked out.

A few months later after the incident, and the loss of my brother, I returned home to my parents as they scorned me for what happened.

I had retired from the Jaeger program as I was feeling pretty down right now, with uncontrollable emotions that was going all-out on me from the inside.

After what I went through, I needed some good night's sleep. What I didn't expect, was a bright white light engulfing me as I was unexpectedly transported away from the face of the Earth.

This is where my story truly began. I'll meet friends, enemies, and a new family to call my own as my parents never truly cared about me, only my brother who they had lost so terribly from what happened that day. I won't make amends with them for how they treated me in the past...
