Chapter 8: Sideways: Flight from Golden Oaks

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

The tunnel was big enough for a single pony to fit comfortably without crawling, Big Mac had done a stellar job. I was the last one in and my chest was tight with phobia. Enclosed places weren't exactly the Pegasi's natural habitat. I had a job to do though, I had to get everyone out no matter what. Of course the knowledge of what was behind me didn't exactly slow me down.

Accursed is here.

I was probably the only one who knew, probably for the best, I felt my heart swell at the trust Twilight had shown in me. She was a hero and I... I was just a poor stand-in for the true Element of Loyalty. Remembering Rainbow Dash put a weight on my floating heart, even after all remembering her death was tough.

But I'm the toughest pony around now. Who else will keep Applebloom and Sweetie Belle safe? Especially 'bloom. My forward momentum was arrested as I smacked into Sweetie Belle, she had stopped suddenly in front of me.

“Hey, c'mon we gotta keep goin,” I urged her, she had an angry look on her face, one she'd been wearing since we got into the tunnel.

“I want to go back Scoots,” she said in a low voice, “I refuse to leave without my sister.”

I grimaced, I'd seen what happened to Rarity, I knew there was a good reason. There had to be. Twilight wouldn't have hurt one of her friends unless there was no other option. I tried really hard to think of a reason I'd ever be able to hurt either of my best friends. I couldn't thinkof anything.

“Sweetie Belle, c'mon, we can't go back, I won't let you, there's some really bad stuff back there.”

“Shut up LOUISE!” she sneered, using my hated middle name, “I'm going and you can't-”

Sweetie Belle's arguments were stopped by a loud smack and an anti-climactic thud as she dropped, stunned, to the floor. I rubbed my forehead, headbutting a unicorn was bad business if you didn't aim right. Unlike earth ponies though unicorn skulls were their weakest point since it could disrupt their horns. I figured that out myself after being bullied by one.

“Sorry Belle, but I can't...” I trailed off and let out a small huff of laughter as I pulled Sweetie Belle onto my back and started moving forward again.

So that was why Twilight did it.

“Sorry Belle, I couldn't let you hurt yourself.”
