Chapter 1: Dovahneigh: Dragonshy

Dovahneigh: Dragonshy

This short story is heavily based off of Bethesda Studios’ The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Based off of the Comic: Dragonshy: Enter The Dovahneigh

With this, I, AProffesionalBrony, am proud to present to you:

Dovahneigh: Dragonshy

“Steady, steady,”

Rainbow raised her hoof in the air, signaling the archers to raise their long, wooden bows, armed with bolted arrow heads.  From beneath the snowy shrubs, they hid, covered in heavy metal armor, and buried deep within the snow.  The path, just off the tree line, was a blizzard of ice and snow. Leading up to the summit of Mount Sarkust, the Imponial soldiers, four of them, marched through the cobblestone path, their hooves leaving prints on the six inch deep snow and their swords dangling by their sides,

“Kurl Celestia Duh Tuertu Ih,” she whispered, May Celestia Be With Us,

Rainbow lowered her hoof, swiftly, into the snow, and the arrows went wishing by her head, into the snow covered path, hitting the four soldiers with precise accuracy.  They let out small yelps, and fell to the floor, small puddles of red forming around them.

“Take what they have, pull the bodies off to the side of the path, quickly,” Rainbow ordered,

“Yes, commander,” one of the Ponycloak soldiers assured, taking a few stallions with him.

Rainbow flipped the hood of her robe over her iron helmet, and buckled up, trying to keep her warmth, and gripped onto her sword, sheathed and sharpened.  She trotted over to the path, and examined the kills they made.  Nothing different from the hundreds of other ambushes they had completed over the week.  Night was falling, as the snow darkened, looking like ash, and the moon was rising.

“Come forth, soldiers, we must return,” she announced,

From the skies, came a flapping sound, and caught Rainbow Dash’s ears, through her robe, and through her helmet.  She looked frantically around, searching the skies,

“ARCHERS, READY!” she cried out, and the bows looked towards the skies, as they traveled back down the path, towards the Homeland,

The flapping came closer, and she raised her hoof once more, as a silhouette landed down from the sky, she peaked through the snow, and came at ease,

“Lower your bows, men,”

A courier Pegusi pony landed, carrying a message,

“Message for Commander Dash?”

“Here, fellow brethren,” she answered, and received the scroll, and unwrapped it, as the courier flew off, back to the kingdom.

Return, quick, important business is at hand involving the subject we discussed earlier,

Twilight.

“Men, Ik Nere Tavook,” she ordered, Men, return to base.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rainbow flew ahead, over the Homeland, beautifully green and lush, away from the mountain, her cape swaying in the wind.  She reached the kingdom with ease, and landed at the front entrance to the palace, where Twilight, and Fluttershy was waiting,

“Ferethenti, greetings, Twilight, you wish to speak with me?” she said, ignoring Fluttershy, how was sitting in the corner of the room, wearing only her iron helmet.

“Yes, Dash, I believe our search is over, our very long search,”

She pulled Twilight into the opposite corner of the room, and whispered,

“You mean, the Dovahneigh?  Our search for the dragonborn?”

“The very one, my friend,” she assured,

“Who, tell me, our three year journey is finally at an end!” she joyed,

“That’s what I am afraid of, Dash,” she bowed her head,

“Who is it!?”

“The Dovahneigh, is...” and she looked over to Fluttershy.

“No, it can’t be, Fluttershy?” The blue pony shivered,

Rainbow turned away from Twilight, and took off her helmet, pulling down her hood.  She put her apparel and sword down on the tables next to her, and trotted over to Fluttershy.

“How can she be the Dovahneigh?  Are you sure?”

“Tell her what happened, Fluttershy,” Twilight told her,

Fluttershy looked up, through her iron helmet, told her story,

“Well, I was trotting through the forest, helping out the harmed soldiers, when I thought, no, I could have sworn I heard a voice call out my name,”

“So, someone called your name, that doesn’t prove anything,” Dash butted in,

“There’s more, I went outside the palace, and stood in the open courtyard, and there was still a voice calling my name, so I said ‘hello’ and it talked to me, but nopony was there.  It was like the wind,”

Twilight started, “I walked out to see her talking to nopony, but she insists she heard the voices,”

“And?” Dash asked,

“I think she was talking to the Dovahs” Twilight informed,

“Dragons?  Nopony can talk to dragons except... The Dragonborn,” Dash possibly believed it to be true, Fluttershy: The Dovahneigh...  Ugh, she shuttered at the thought.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They walked back out into the courtyard, all geared up, and Rainbow Dash set up a few buckets, staking them.

“What are these for?” Fluttershy asked,

“If you are the Dovahneigh, you can use the Pony Thu’um,” Dash said,

“Thu’um? I can do that!” she assured them,

“Then prove it,” Twilight ordered,

Fluttershy hooked down her helmet, and took a deep breath, aiming at the buckets.

“Fus,”

Breath,

“Ro,”

Huge Breath,

“Da....” a very soft gust of wind swooped out of her mouth, barley even tapping the buckets.

Dash and Twilight facehoofed, “You have GOT to be kidding me,”.  Fluttershy had the power, but not the yell.  That was always her problem, to shy, if she was going to save the Homeland from eternal darkness and the Dovah, she was going to have to learn how to shout.

“Fluttershy, you really are putting us in a pickle,” Twilight looked at Dash, and trotted over to Fluttershy.

“I’m so sorry, girls, but what am I to do,” Fluttershy sighed,

“You could learn to shout, like this,” Dash took a step towards the bucket,

“FUS RO DAH!” and they went flying high into the air, smashing a few hundred feet away.

“Fluttershy, as much as I hate to agree with Dash, she’s right, you need to learn how to shout, if you are to defeat the Dovah,” Twilight said, pulling out a book on the Dovahneigh.

‘Twilight, does Jarl Celestia know?”

“Sadly, yes,” she pinched the skin between her nose.

“We have to train her properly, if she is to fulfil the prophecy,” Twilight read out of the book.

“Then, I guess it’s off to the woods,” Dash assumed,

“Th-th-the woods?” Fluttershy feared,

“Yes! The Great Woods of Urikfrom! A perfect challenge worthy of the Dovahneigh! This will tell us if you truly are The Dragonborn!” Twilight exclaimed.

They dragged Fluttershy, still wearing her lone, iron helmet, onto the wagon, as they loaded up the swords and robes.

“This is not going to end well,” Dash said to Twilight,

“I know,”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The wagon rocked back and forth, as the stallions pulled it through the Homeland.  They were nearing the site of the Great Battle of Molunduk, where thousands of Ponycloak soldiers were killed at the hands of the Imponials.  They passed over the dead bodies of the soldiers, all battle torn, and the smell was unbearable, Twilight and Fluttershy held their noses, but Rainbow spoke up,

“Swe Nier Valok,” and a gust of wind blew the odors away, making way to fresh air.

“Oh, thank you, Rainbow Dash,” Fluttershy said,

“I wish you could have done it yourself, honestly, Fluttershy, do you know what this means?”

“Of course, I’m the Dovahneigh,”

Rainbow and Twilight looked at her, “You do realize what you are going to have to do, don’t you?”

“Learn all the Thu’ums?” Fluttershy guessed,

“Learning a Thu’um, a Dovahshout, is just part of it, but let’s just be able to make you shout, first,” Twilight corrected her,

The wagon carried on, over the bodies, into the dark woods of Urikfrom, where the snow immediately started to fall.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Fo Mous Muoha,” Twilight said, they had arrived.  They were miles in, surrounded by trees, and hooked up with swords, robes, and iron helmets.  The snow fell atop their hoods, and the sap of the tall trees mixed with the snow.  The stallions on the wagon galloped off,

“Wait, where are they going?  How will we get back!?” Fluttershy exclaimed,

“This is Dovah Training 101, for you, Fluttershy, no backing out,” Dash stated,

“It’s just you, me, and Dash: Alone in the woods, here to find out if you’re the Dovahneigh,” Twilight added.

Fluttershy did not like this, they trekked farther into the woods, looking around the environment,

“Girls, what are we looking for?” Fluttershy asked,

“A wall scroll,” Twilight answered,

“A what?”

Dash added, “A wall, carved in Dovah Oluhanok, Dragon Language,”

“What will that do?” Fluttershy asked,

“You will be able to learn another shout, we are looking for the fire breath, ‘Yol Toor Shul’,” Dash returned,

“I can breath fire?” Fluttershy guessed,

“If we find it, and you can learn it, yes,” Twilight said,

“Why can’t you teach me it now?  You know it,” Fluttershy replied,

“The Dovahneigh can only learn a word, by wall or scroll, not by thought, and we don’t posses that type of power, only the Grand High Kings of the Homeland can, and the other kings across Equestria,” Twilight stated,

“Furosk, Halt, my friends, we are here,” Dash let out her cold breath, forming in steam clouds, out of her helmet and hood.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They stood before a great stone wall, engraved in Dovah Oluhanok, Dash and Twilight knelt down, bowing to the words, and raised back up, trotting towards it.  They read the words of the dragons, searching for fire breath.

Fluttershy stood there, looking at her friends, and kicking the snow down below her hoofs.

“Here!” Twilight exclaimed,

“Where?” Dash asked,

“Right here,” Twilight pointed, reading off of the wall, “Yol Toor Shul,”

“Watch this, Fluttershy,” Twilight and Dash turned toward the line of wet trees, so it would be safe to blow fire,

“YOL TOOR SHUL!” she shouted, knocking over trees with their fire that scorched from their mouths.

Fluttershy spoke up, “Can I do that?”

“Come and read it, then try,” Dash put her hoof on the carved letters, pointing out which ones.

Fluttershy stepped up to the wall, and read it to herself many times, then she looked down, and spoke softly,

“Yol Toor Shul,” and a small gust of fire poured out, burning the snow in the ground.  She turned to her friends and smiled, but her happiness didn’t last, as the sound of hoofs hit her eardrums.

Dash stood up tall, so did Twilight, their breath gleaming in the freezing air, as their ears pricked up.  The Imponials!  They ran, and hid in the shrubs, swords at the ready, but Fluttershy was hiding behind both her friends, cowardly.

A large group of Imponial soldiers walked through the tree line, about nine of them, swords already drawn.  They were skinny, and looked scared, they must have gotten lost in the woods, none of them were Pegusi or unicorn.

“What do we do know, Captain?” one of them said,

“We have been searching for this wall for days, we came here to destroy it,” he returned.

“We can’t let them destroy that wall, Twilight,” Dash whispered, “We have to attack,”

“You’re right, I don’t see any other way,” Twilight didn't wan't to agree, but she didn't see any other choice.

“Girls, maybe we should rethink this,” Fluttershy said,

To late, they had already fled from the bushes, swords at hooves, and swung at the Imponials, trying to smash the wall.

“Zun Haal Viik!” Dash screamed, disarming three of them, with her shout, as she cut them down, dodging the spurting blood

that landed on the snow.

“Fo Krah Diin!” Twilight shouted, casting an ice gust across two more of them, crushing them to ice particals.  Fluttershy still crept over the bush, dodging the last remaining Imponials.

Dash and Twilight blocked the swings of the soldiers with their swords, sparks clanking off of the steel blades, and metal ringing out through the forest.  The last four of them were tough, but they were able to cut down two more of them, before running out of fatigue,

“Look out, Twilight!” Dash and Fluttershy exclaimed, as Twilight dodged a near hit.

“FUS!” a small push let out of Dash’s tired mouth, pushing them back.  It seemed like they might have lost the fight, when there Savior, and worst fear came up.

A loud shout rained from the sky, and a massive dragon plowed through the trees.  It was white, had major scales, claws, and fangs, and had large wings, attached to its stubby hands.  It spoke out, as loud as a bomb going off,

“FO KRAH DIIN” and let out a huge blast of snow and frost from it’s mouth, smashing into the wall, freezing it.  It missed Dash and Twilight, but pushed them off their hooves, into the piles of snow,

“Run, Fluttershy!” Twilight exclaimed.

The dragon looked over to Fluttershy, and started at the startled pony, as she was trying to escape.

“Frume Du Tix!” the dragon shouted, sucking in an air pocket, causing Fluttershy to fly forwards, in front of the dragon.  The air pulled a sword along with her, and her friends were buried in the snow.

“Fluttershy, grab the sword!” Dash yelled,

Fluttershy picked up the sword, and wobbled it in her hand,

“Stay b-b-back,” she whispered, “I-I-I’m w-warning you!” she squeed very loudly,

The dragon swooped down, pushing it’s snout into Fluttershy’s tummy, waltzing her back.  It was getting ready to take a deep breath, and blow Fluttershy to bits of ice, when Twilight was able to free herself, and shout,

“Heri Vins Krovack!”

The shout shot a shield of energy in front of Fluttershy, and blocked the blast of frost from the dragon, but causing the shield to break down after.

“Do it, Fluttershy,” Twilight said,

This was it, Fluttershy took a deep breath, her life depended on it, and suddenly,

“FUS RO DAH!”

The blast was even stronger than any pony had imagined.  It was an unrelenting force, that blasted the dragon upwards into the sky, and brought it crashing down.  The snow kicked up, pushing the wind away from the dragon, causing the snow covering Dash, to be pushed away.  They were all free, and watch in amazement as the dragon yelled one last thing,

“Teruks Dovahneigh Fru Schulzed Uy Kinn!”

The dragon flew off, and they were safe.  Thanks to Fluttershy, they would be able to return home.  Rainbow Dash used her wings, after thawing the ice from them, and called out, using a transportation call, causing a wagon to be sent on their way.

All they had to do was wait.  Dash, Twilight, and Fluttershy flipped their hoods over their helmets, sheathed their swords, and sat down in the snow.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The wagon approached, and they boarded it slowly.  They went at normal speed through the snowy woods.  Just missing the fallen bodies of the Imponials , and the night sky was overhead.  The wagon rocked back as they exited the tree line, the sky fully visible, and the moon bright.  Dash looked around, and noticed a sleeping Fluttershy wrapped in her red robe, wearing her big iron helmet, with the horns sticking out.

“Hey, Twilight?” she whispered out,

“What’s that?” she answered,

“We never did find out if Fluttershy really was the Dovahneigh, that shout could have just been out of courage,”

“Oh, Dash, I’m sure she is,”

Fluttershy woke up, but pretended to act like she was sleeping, and listened to their conversation,

“How can you be so sure, Twilight?” Dash asked,

“You remember when the dragon shouted those last words before he ran off?” Twilight recalled,

“Yeah, but I couldn’t understand them, what do they mean?”

“The dragon yelled, ‘The Dovahneigh Has Returned To The Homeland’,” Twilight explained, Dash’s eyes got very big, and wide, as Fluttershy grew a small smile on her face.

She was Dovahneigh.
