After hundreds of years of banishment by the unicorn mage Starswirl the Bearded to the human world, Adagio is finally fed up with the monotony of the lives that she and her sisters have been leading.

Returning home is impossible, and having given up she leaves her sisters to their own devices and goes north to find something else, something new. The human world, almost empty of magic, holds so little interest for her though that she finds herself unsure of what she would even do alone. A chance encounter, however, gives the wayward exile an opportunity at a new life, and something she had never before considered.
