The Prismic Passion
Chapter 1: Boredom Doesn’t Last Forever
Rainbow Dash was pretty much a zombie; she had NOTHING to do. She cursed knowing that the Wonderbolts were on a small vacation. She had tried a lot of things to keep herself occupied. Games, books, and turtle snuggling were all attempted and lost. Dash was getting restless at this point. Then the knocking came..........
Dash’s ears perked up at the chance of interaction. She made her way to the door in anticipation. When she opened her door, her smile grew exceptionally larger.
There stood Soarin, proud cadet of the Wonderbolts in all his glory. Without his flight suit on, Soarin was just any regular pony. In fact, you could almost mistake him for one on a regular day.
“Hey Dash, how’s it hangin’?”, Soarin asked.
“Not much; just bored out of my mind is all”, Rainbow said groggily.
“I feel ya, I’m pretty bored myself. That’s why I came here”, Soarin said with a sheepish look.
Dash blushed deeply; Soarin had come to HER? Truth be told, they were pretty close teammates, but Dash never thought in her wildest dreams that he would want to hangout one on one.
“O-Ok! Come on in”, Dash said with a smile.
Soarin made his way into the home with a look of comfort. The home itself was nothing special, minus the fact that Dash was a Wonderbolts hoarder.
Seriously, there was an entire portion of wall just dedicated to Wonderbolts memorabilia.
“Wow Dash, you sure do have some cool stuff”, Soarin said in awe of the cunning collection.
“Thanks, it’s been building up for years”, Dash said.
The sound of a propeller took Soarin out of his trance. He looked to the source and found......A flying turtle?
“Holy crap! A turtle! I LOVE turtles!”, Soarin said happily.
“That’s Tank, he’s my pet tortoise. He’s pretty much a turtle, though”, Rainbow said coyly.
Tank just happily glided over to Soarin and flew around him. Soarin just followed him around for a good 5 minutes, before Tank glided to Dash. He feel asleep in Dash’s mane.
“Awe, good boy Tank. Seems you’ve tuckered him out, Soarin. I’ll be right be back, I’m gonna put this sleepyhead in his bed”, Dash said.
Soarin nodded and sat on the couch. He had to admit, this turning out really cool so far. He met a flying turtle, for Celestia’s sake, how cool is that?
Dash came into the living room and sat down next to him. The two just sat there until Soarin spoke up.
“Hey Dash?”, Soarin asked.
“Yeah?”, Dash said back.
“So, I don’t really know much about you. What exactly do you do when your not busting your rump at practice?”, Soarin said coyly.
Dash giggled and rolled her eyes. She had to admit, Soarin was pretty funny.
“Well, I read Daring Doo and play games. Also, I got this really cool house and friends. They all got stuff to do today, though. I’m actually kinda glad your here. Maybe now I can actually have some fun”, Dash said.
“Alright, what did you have in mind?”, Soarin asked.
“You ever heard of Jenga?”, Dash said with a smirk.
——————————————————————
After ten Jenga games, Soarin was ready to admit his defeat.
“Jeez Dash, how are so good at this? I can barely even pull one out, let alone getting it to stand”, Soaring said jokingly.
“That, my friend, is a secret. And I NEVER reveal my own tricks”, Dash while sipping a convenient cup of orange soda.
Soarin chuckled and looked at Dash. He didn’t know why, but something about Dash was starting to make him feel giddy. He didn’t know what it was, though.
“So, Dash, I’ve never really met your friends. Of course you’ve met mine because you’re in the team, but what exactly are YOUR friends like?”, Soarin asked.
“Well, there’s Twilght. She’s a princess, but she’ll always be an egghead. There’s Applejack, who makes your favourite Apple Pie. Rarity is a fashionista who enjoys the spa. Fluttershy likes to care for animals, it practically drives her. And Pinkie Pie just became a mother”, Dash answered.
“Woah, a mother? I’ve met Pinkie before, and she doesn’t exactly strike me as a motherly type”, Soarin said.
“I know, but she adopted this local colt who really needed her. Being who she is, she’s given him a new family and a great home. I’m honestly proud of her”, Rainbow said proudly.
“I see, that’s interesting. Hey, didn’t Flutterhsy adopt a foal, as well?”, Soarin asked.
“Yup, and he’s just the coolest little guy ever! He’s a bit shy, but once you get to know him he’s actually pretty cool”, Dash said.
Soarin nodded and once again looked at Dash differently. He had come here to hang out, not to develop feelings. But suprise, he was doing exactly just that.
There was something about Rainbow Dash that really made him smile. He couldn’t deny that any longer.
“You ok, Soarin?”, Dash asked.
“Huh? Oh yeah, I’m cool. I just got something on my mind, is all”, Soarin said nervously.
“What is it? Whoops, sorry for being a bit nosy”, Dash said sheepishly.
“It’s fine, Dash. Well, I guess I’m starting to realize something I’ve never really thought about before”, Soarin said.
Dash looked his face over, and she knew something was off.
“Soarin, What’s really going on? You can tell me what’s wrong”, Dash said.
“I don’t think I should, Dash. It would actually be kinda weird”, Soarin said shyly.
As soon as that came out of his mouth, Soarin regretted saying that.
“Oh...Ok. I was only trying to help”, Dash said while her ears dropped.
Soarin felt guilty, now. He made Rainbow Dash sad. That’s the last thing he wanted to do.
“Are you sure you want to know? It’s kind of embarrassing”, Soarin said.
Dash nodded and put her hooves on her chin.
“Well....I....I-I.....might have a crush on somepony. I’m kinda scared, though. I’ve never been with anypony”, Soarin admitted.
“Oh...Well, do you know what I think?”, Dash asked.
“What would that be?”, Soarin asked back.
“I think that whoever this mare is, you should tell her. You’re a really good guy, Soar. Any mare would be lucky to have you”, Dash said.
Rainbow Dash, in all honesty, didn’t know where that came from. She was never the advicely type, nor had she attempted to be.
But Soarin looked like he needed some help, and she wasn’t going to let a teammate suffer on any kind of level.
Dash looked at Soarin as she thought. He was actually pretty handsome.
“WOAH WOAH WOAH, back it up! What the hay is that all about?!”, Dash thought hard.
She had never really been a romance kind of mare, by even she had to admit that Soarin was pretty cute. Every mare was practically drooling over him when they had their airshows. Dash had always admired Soarin, she even had a poster of him in her bedroom.
It was then that she realized something that she hadn’t thought of before. Soarin was hard-working, caring, and loyal. That night at the Gala always held a special place in Dash’s heart, but she had always thought that it was because she was dancing with a Wonderbolt.
Soarin’s laidback attitude had really rubbed off on her today; and she needed that desperately.
Whoever this made was, she was so lucky.
“Thank’s Dash, that means a lot coming from you”, Soarin said with a blush.
Dash also blushed as the two grew silent. They then locked eyes with one another. Slowly they leaned in closer with each second.
And then, their lips touched.
The feeling that they felt in that moment was unlike anything either one had ever felt. After a few more seconds, they parted.
“I guess you know who my crush is now, huh?”, Soarin said bashfully.
Dash giggle and pecked him again.
“I think I got a hunch. So, what now? Are we together?”, Dash asked.
“I don’t know, are we?”, Soarin playfully responded.
“You bet your flank we are”, Dash giggled.
Soarin also chuckled and nuzzled her neck.
Just then, both of their stomachs grumbled.
“Heh, I guess all this mushy stuff is making me hungry”, Dash said sheepishly.
“Same here, what do ya say we get something to eat. If ya got the stuff, I could make my famous Daisy Sub. We could split”, Soarin suggested.
“I actually do have that stuff. How about I help you make them?”, Dash offered.
“Alright, let’s go!”, Soarin said excitedly.
They raced to the kitchen and began to craft a large sandwich. Once the culinary delight was done, they brought it to the couch and began to chow down.
To put it bluntly, it was damn delicious.
“Wow, I never knew you could cook. You need to teach me that recipe”, Dash said with a full stomach.
“I suppose I could, but it’s gonna cost ya”, Soarin coyly said.
Dash locked lips with him and pulled away after a minute.
“That enough, hunk?”, Dash said with a smirk.
“Hay yeah, babe. You know, it’s kinda funny. I came here because I was bored, but I ended up getting the hottest mare in Equestria. Fair trade, I’d say”, Soarin said while stroking her hoof.
“Life works that way, sometimes. I now have the hottest stallion ever, and I’m not complaining”, Dash said while nuzzling her coltfriend.
“I love you, Rainbow Dash”, Soarin lovingly said.
“I love you too, Soarin”, Rainbow Dash purred back.
