Not the best start off for these shorts, but its at least something, right?
Feel free to tell me what you think, and I hope you enjoy more of these little shorts!
The month of October had come. The leaves were turning shades of orange, red, and yellow; falling from the trees and onto the roads and sidewalks. The weather was beginning to change, turning from warm to a bit of a cold blister. For the students, this meant many things. For everyone at CHS, this meant that it was the month of Halloween! The month of spooks, ghouls, monsters, and of course, the fright night itself.
But for Adagio Dazzle and her sisters, it was still adjusting to their new lives at school. After all of the month of drama and never-ending spiral of terror from Sunset Shimmer and her former associates the Rainbooms, they were looking for some much needed time to calm down. No horrors, no insanity, and no fear was all they wanted this month. But knowing the tradition of Halloween and the things that people do on Halloween didn't really relieve any of that fear. But the thought of having some fun with their friends made their worries deteriorate.
Adagio Dazzle walked towards the front of the school, right through the giant gaping hole. The damages to the school were massive, and it was still in need of dire repair. So for the time being, they set up a few support beams and safety areas surrounding the damage so no student or adult would be harmed walking inside. Her eyes gazed towards the support beams, and then she looked back into the main foyer.
Looking above, she saw the big glass pane that was over above was still shattered in pieces. Another thing we have to get fixed.
Adagio walked down another hallway, and up ahead she was met a girl in a tank top and short jeans calling her.
"Adagio!"
Amethyst Star opened up her arms and a big smile.
"Girl, come on, give me a hug hon! Gimme a hug!" Amethyst said, grabbing Adagio in a big hug, sweeping her quite literally off her feet.
"Dah, Amy!" Adagio said surprised, giggling as well. "Someone's a hugger."
Amethyst giggled, letting go of Adagio and setting her back down.
"Yeah..." Amethyst grinned.
"You seem to be in a chipper mood. Any reason?" Adagio asked.
"Yeah! Its October! Its the month of spooks and scares! And adding on that, the girls and I have been planning on a lot of stuff we want to do this month!"
"Really?" Adagio smirked. "Walk me through it."
As the two of them conversed, they started to stroll down the hallway, passing by several other cheerful looking students. Only 20 more minutes left on the clock before the day was officially starting.
"Okay, so, we've got a lot of scary movies packed for each week, plenty of costume material for whoever we want to be, maybe even some cosplay in there, and a whole wad of decorations to make any of our homes absolutely spooky!" Amethyst said, making over the top hand gestures.
Adagio chuckled. "Sounds like it could be a lot of fun."
"What about you girls? You ever do anything scary for Halloween?" Amethyst asked.
"Well... no, not really." Adagio shrugged.
"Why not?"
"Amy, my sisters and I were hunted for over a thousand years, and in all of that time, we've kept on running just because people found ourselves scary. By the time the actual holiday was made, my sisters and I devoted ourselves to never reveal our true selves. That is until you six came along." Adagio replied.
"Sooooo?" Amethyst grinned, leaning against her with a sly grin.
Adagio rolled her eyes, chuckling. "I suppose if my sisters are interested, maybe we will join you all in some Halloween fun. As long as it doesn't involve life threatening peril."
"Of course, of course!" Amethyst said, waving her hands nonchalantly.
Adagio unlocked the combination lock on her locker, about to open it. But wait. Last time she opened it, she got a snake in there. When her sisters opened theirs, Aria was hit in the face with cupcakes, and Sonata got a hot steaming pie. Was the same thing going to happen again?
Approaching with caution, she slowly pushed Amethyst out of the way, and she slowly pulled the locker door open, keeping themselves away from any line of fire. She waited for a sound. Any sound that would be there. Nothing.
Peeking her eye, she sighed in relief. No spring-loaded mechanisms of any kind visible. Now she could get in without fear of getting hit.
"Still doing trap checks, huh?" Amethyst asked.
"Yes, I am."
Amethyst shook her head. "I still think it was a dumb idea for you to try and stand for them."
"Amethyst, all they wanted was for their sisters to be restored back to health, not to mention Sunset put their families lives on the line!" Adagio said grabbing a book and a binder from the bottom shelf.
Amethyst scowled. "And this information wasn't made relevant at the start before, or any time at all because...?"
"I... I don't know."
"Well, I'm still standing by my statement. You let them get off way too easily." Amethyst scowled, leaning against the other locker.
"I'm not letting them off easy."
"How is telling them that you have their eye on them, not letting them off easy?"
Adagio looked back Amethyst. "Because now they know the kind of power we have. And I have a feeling they'll be more than wise not to mess with me, or my sisters now that they know how strong we are."
Amethyst's frown slowly started to turn.
"Okay, but you never know, they could try to betray you at the last second."
"I can see betrayal a mile away. Besides, I know they just want their sisters back."
"Yeah, and they had no remorse for wanting to mess with us. You still think they're redeemable?"
Adagio rolled her eyes, closing her locker.
"Amethyst. At the very least, we can give them this. They didn't send anyone into the hospital."
The school bell rung, and instantly everyone began to rush for their lockers. Amethyst sighed as she and Adagio left to go for their first class.
"They still got me expelled... and they still deserve whatever hate they have coming their way. I can guarantee nobody here's going to be kind to them after all of their torture."
After the first class, everyone struggled out the door to try and make it to their next one. Only five minutes for them to get their materials and struggle to get out of there as quick as they could.
Rainbow Dash and Applejack zipped around a corner, briskly trying to make it to their lockers and get their stuff. Fast.
"Come on, come on, come on! We've got to move quick, we can't be late!"
"Ya think I don't know that?" Applejack spat.
"I know you know! I just don't want to deal with--"
"Me?"
That voice sent a shiver down both of their spines. Their heads turned, and they instantly realized who was talking to them. A girl no older and no bigger than both of them combined, leaned against a locker with her arms crossed, hugging her chest and a leg leaning against her other leg. She wore a green skirt with a graphic of a few soap bubbles, a black jacket to cover over her blue tank top, and a scowl so permanent if someone tried to fix it they'd tear apart her face. But what made this girl stand out some more, was that one of her eyes wasn't in the right place like her other one, looking as if they were staring at two places at once.
"Oh, uh, hi Derpy..." Rainbow stammered.
"Don't, call me Derpy, Rainbow Dash. You know very well what my name is."
"R-Right. Sorry... Muffins."
"That's better." The girl replied.
Applejack sighed. "What do you want, Muffins?"
"Just making sure you jerks aren't harassing anyone."
"But, we're not." Applejack replied.
"Yeah, and its my job to make sure you terrorists don't go any further. Remember what Sunset did to me last time?"
Both of them gulped and nodded. And without warning, they jumped back when Muffins' fist hit the locker next to Applejack.
"Just watch yourselves. You'll be lucky if you don't get strabismus like I do."
"I thought that was just something that happened at birth!"
"Do you morons truly not know? Your sociopath of a leader is the one who gave me all of the head injuries. And if you two aren't careful... you might be the same like me."
Muffins snarled and she stomped away, leaving them to watch her in fear. Compared to the Dazzlings, she could pretty much be like a royal servant to them. Muffins was just as tough as they were back when they had Sunset, only she didn't need any magic. Her strength, her death faces, they were enough to send fear down anyone's throats. The only thing they were thankful about was that Muffins didn't beat up people out of pleasure and or physically assault anyone just for fun.
But if anything was certain to them, Muffins was someone they didn't want to start trouble with.
After a few more classes had gone by, everyone's favorite time of the day came; lunch! People came rushing through, trying to get their food and get to their tables as fast as possible.
Adagio held onto her little plastic tray, holding her food. She didn't order anything from the school's cafeteria; lines were too long and she never had the patience to stay for so long. So she just made a delivery call instead.
"Adagio!"
Turning her head, she looked for who called her. She smiled seeing the cute girl in glasses who called for her attention. Walking with her food, she took a seat at the table, surrounded by the rest of their friends and her two siblings.
"Afternoon girls." Adagio said, sitting down.
"How's your day been so far, luv?" Octavia asked.
"Okay so far. Nothing bad, nothing terrible. Still debating on whether or not I made the right choice."
"What choice?" Trixie asked, taking a sip of her drink.
"Your choice of a Halloween costume?"
"Choice of what outfit you're going to wear for the Canterlot Talent Show?"
"No!" Adagio said, silencing everyone. "I talked with Amethyst this morning and... I'm not sure if I made the right choice in letting the Rainbooms off from jail time."
"Well what does your gut tell you?" Vinyl asked.
Adagio looked at the girls with a deadpan look. "Talk to the others, they'll know what to do."
"Look, Adagio, its not our place to decide what you want to do. If you want to defend them all you want, then go right ahead." Bon Bon replied, picking away at her food.
"I know. But everyone's right, they did do a lot of bad things. And I know they shouldn't be let off so easy but... I just feel like there's some more that's deep inside of them that we haven't seen."
"Maybe. Maybe not. But I say they have all the time in the world to show a new side of them. Or better yet, they have all the time to try and make themselves better than they were before." Aria said, looking beyond their table.
They turned their gaze in the direction Aria was looking. Just over in another table, there were the five Rainbooms all sitting by themselves. Their heads hung as they just stared down at their food, barely looking at each other in the eye. Everyone around them either glared at them with sneers, gave a few snide and snarking remarks, or just walked idly by as if they never existed.
The Rainbooms had never felt so small and helpless in their lives. And now they were starting to understand how everyone felt when they took over the school.
"Should I talk to them?" Adagio asked, about to get up from her seat.
Aria and Sonata's hands stopped her before she could go anywhere.
"No. Let them suffer," Aria scowled, "Its time they got a taste of their own medicine."
"But shouldn't I--"
"No. Adagio, the only way they're going to learn and get better is if they're punished. You didn't let me and Sonata off when we did something bad, they need to learn to do the same." Aria sternly replied, eating her food.
Adagio wanted to argue back, but it was no use. The girls had to learn this all on their own. She couldn't just be there at every second to hold their hand. So, in defeat, she slumped back in her seat.
"I am questioning so many things both morally and eternally right now," Adagio said, holding the side of her face.
"Adagio. They'll be fine. Right now, I think you need to think about something else." Trixie said, patting Adagio's hand.
"I suppose you're right. I should probably be diverting my attention onto finding a way to pay for all the damages done to the school."
"Um, what are you talking about?" Amethyst asked.
"I said, I--"
"No, no, no, we heard you. Since when do you need to be the one to pay? Let them be the one to pay for the damages, they're the ones who started it!"
"Yes, but they need money for their sister's conditions. Their family's health and well being are higher priorities right now. So I volunteered to try and find a way to be able to pay for anything that could help repair the school."
"Why not use the gold and jewels you showed us?" Trixie asked.
"Trixie, as much as I'd love to use those to pay, I'm afraid that won't work. Here's the thing, if we even try to show those to anyone, I have a feeling they'll either completely confiscate all of our treasures, wiping away hundreds of years worth of history and treasure away, and they'll be on our case about it."
"You're overthinking things again..." Sonata said, taking a sip of her drink.
"Am I? Remember the last time we showed any valuables to anyone? We were chased and stalked like celebrities in Hollywood."
Aria and Sonata paused. The memories of a few times in the past resurfaced.
"Oh yeah..."
"Exactly. So we're going to need to find a new means of making some money. Luckily, I did find a few possible job openings." Adagio said, looking at everyone.
"Yeah? What do you got so far?"
"Well a few positions opened up. 1; A dancing troupe needs a new manager. 2; Pizza deliveries. Or 3; A film production over in Applewood is in need of some assistants and others, and I thought about maybe volunteering for that one. The only problem is its all the way over in California, and the position is only open for an entire week, which will mean us missing school. I don't want to miss anything but..."
"Adagio, I think it'll be fine. We can keep you posted on whatever you're missing, and if need be, we'll send you your assignments digitally so you can catch up."
Adagio raised her hand up. "I didn't say I was definitely doing it. But I am thinking about taking that job. It does offer a lot in terms of payment, and not to mention, working in a Hollywood production sounds like it can be fun."
Everyone nodded.
"Whatever you decide, we'll be with you all the way!" Sonata smiled.
"Yeah, we've got your back." Bon Bon nodded.
"Thanks girls." Adagio smiled back, eating a piece of sushi from her bento box.
As everyone laughed, and giggled, smiling as they had their food, the Rainbooms could only watch from a far away table. They didn't looked stressed out or scared or even worried. And why should they? After all they did, they had earned their right to some peace. They could only wish that they had a good friendship like they all did. They barely connected with each other on a personal level, and the only thing they really had was wanting their sisters (and sister figure) back to their health again and for all of the hate to blow over. But deep inside, they knew the hate was going to stay with them for a long time.
