Chapter 1

“Why are is there light on my face? I don’t remember leaving the curtains open. Nnnngghh….”

Through what little space their eyes showed, they could see that there was nothing around them. Just a black void. Startled by the realization they were not on their bed, they got up and looked around, nothing but darkness as far as they could see.

Looking down at themselves, the person could not see the ground they were standing on, if there was any, but could see the clothing on their body as though there was a light shining directly down on them. They looked up, their gaze meeting a familiar darkness. It was odd, to say the least.

“Well that’s… something. Where am I?”

They wandered in a random direction. It was hard to tell how long they walked for—deprived of all senses except for the sound of their footsteps. Eventually, they noticed that they were being followed by an invisible presence.

The presence shifted itself above the person, making its way to hover in front. Thoughts began to invade the person’s mind as panic set in. All they could do was curl themselves into a ball and protect their head.

“This has got to be a dream. I-it isn’t l-logical... There isn’t any monster near me. Monsters aren’t real. This isn’t real....”

“Just a dream, you say? No, this is nothing like that. It’s as real as cheese. And logical? Well I don’t think I’ve ever been the sort,” spoke a voice emanating from the void.

The voice causes the person peer their head out of the ball, hoping to see someone. Deciding the voice came from behind, they stood and turned to look behind, but couldn’t move their legs.

“I.. I can’t move my legs! What’s going on!? Who’s there? W-where am I!?” The voice didn’t reply, only causing fear to grow. “T-this is pure insanity... Noise doesn’t come from nothing.”

As if fading in from the void itself, a strange yet familiar form appeared, one with a mismatched body. The creature held a striking resemblance to a certain draconequus, with the expected dragon leg and tail, differing wings, and equine head. Even the horns were different.

“Me? I’m Discord, God of Chaos,” he posed as if he was waiting for a fearful response. “Master of Nonsense? Spirit of Disharmony? Ring any bells? And insanity is right, my little friend.”

The person continued to stare at Discord, not out of fear or confusion, but in total disbelief that the God of Chaos himself was talking.

“I just… can’t believe it. I’m not scared or anything, since I know about you. You’re reformed, so that makes you less of a threat. But it’s just… a lot to take in. You being real.”

“Oh, really now? Very... peculiar. I may be the definition of strange, but even this is confusing to me. I just can’t wrap my mind around you not being afraid, even though we’ve never met. See?” Discord stuck his talon into his ear, pulling out a large brain with a smaller version of his face on it. It cried as it attempted to bend in half, failing miserably. Discord just chuckled, snapping his free hand and making the brain vanish. “Now then, since you seem to be tied up at the moment with your disbelief, why don’t we get acquainted? I’ve already said my name. Why don’t you tell me what yours is?”

The stranger appears in a metal chair with rope laid thick across their chest.

“I’m not even going to question why I’m tied in a chair. I’m Anon by the way. Nice to mee- wait why am I even answering you? You still haven’t told me where I am or how I got here.”

Discord crossed his arms and small puffs of smoke jet out from his nostrils. He’s clearly annoyed at being questioned.

“Oh what does it matter? I’m the one in control here and that’s all that matters. But…” He drops his arms to his sides and begins cooling down. “I suppose you do deserve at least that much. You’re in the void between dimensions. Between the realm of your universe and one where Equestria exists. Sort of like the ‘purgatory’ between universes.”

“But, how did I get here? I honestly don’t remember being able to open portals between dimensions.”

“Oh, I brought you here. I got bored of my everyday life and wanted some change.”

Anon had a feeling Discord was lying, like he usually did in order to hide his feelings. It was just a matter of asking the right questions to figure out what the truth was. After pondering for a good few minutes, Anon straightened up in the chair as best they could.

“If you were bored, wouldn’t you be out causing mayhem or making Twilight go nuts over something? Isn’t that usually enough to satisfy your itch for entertainment? You aren’t just bored, are you?” Anon was sure that he was hiding something.

It surprised Discord to hear that Anon saw past his facade.

“Not many can see past my lies. You’re a strange one, Anon. You want to know the truth? Well here you go.” Discord summoned himself a beanbag chair to sit in. “I’m not bored, I’m just tired. Tired of nopony seeing me for what I really am. Nopony questions about why I’m the only draconequus and frankly, being reminded that I’m the only one is really depressing. They just assume that I’m merely a spirit or something. That’s only half the truth.”

Anon noticed that the draconequus had a depressed look on his face. Discord sighs and hangs his head down low, almost reaching his lap. Was being the only one of your species really that depressing? He’s the god of chaos and disharmony. If anything, he should always be happy to be different from other species, or at least proud.

“I’m… more or less an extension of her. You see, I’m not the real god of chaos. That title goes to another. I’m merely her ‘champion’ of sorts. An extension, if you will. And my reasoning behind bringing you here is… how to put this.” Discord began rubbing his beard, trying to stimulate his mind. “I felt that a being chaotic in nature, such as a human, would be able to understand what I say. And you being a human, it would mean you wouldn’t go mad trying to grasp any meaning or memory. If you would like, I could show you what I mean. Just a little trip down my memories to see my life as it was before all this. ”

Anon felt they could not pass up this opportunity. After all the time of researching on the internet, watching the show, talking to theorists, they would have the chance to learn information no one else had. The history of Discord. THE DISCORD. “Fuck yeah dude, lay it on me. I’ve tried to look up as much information as I could on you, getting nowhere. But getting to learn something DIRECTLY from the source of a subject? How could I pass that up? Especially since it happens to be a topic that interests me.”

Discord, shocked by their response, formed a small grin. “I didn’t think someone would actually want to see and learn my past. Allow me to open my mind to you. Give me a moment.”

Discord stood up and began to meditate, floating upward above his bean bag chair. His eyes begin to glow a red hue, radiating out a warmth that covered Anon. It felt like being slowly exposed to sunlight. Everything started fading, becoming more and more as absent, almost like the void itself.
