Long ago, before even the founding of Equestria, there lived a unicorn couple. They could not foal a child, but were kind to all and served the ponies of their town. One day, the bodies of the heavens, so moved by their generosity, blessed them with a daughter.

Yet she was born as an Earth pony, and so the unicorns of her town despised her. But the outpourings of her soul could not be stifled by their rejection, and the Earth produced yet another blessing for her: a friend.
