Prologue: The Rainbow and the Filly

This is part three of the Dawn Shield  part one can be found here

and part two here. You might want to read these to better understand the events leading to this.

Rainbow Dash had just finished working with the weather team and was heading back to town. Being the newest member she had all the worst assignments like clearing the skies over the road out of Ponyville. It could be worse though, at least she gets to fly.

She could never understand pegasi that work on the ground. Fluttershy she could understand, she just loves animals. Others though, like the stallion that ran the library, were just wasting their wings.

Rainbow Dash moved to Ponyville from Cloudsdale just last year after dropping out of flight school. She didn't need it anyways. She was already the best flier in Equestria. What else could they teach her.

She always let her mind wander like this on her way home. It took about an hour from the end of her route, and it got boring. Today, though, things were different. As she flew she noticed an orange speck on the road.

“What the hay is that? It's too small to be a pony.” she said to herself.

Curiosity got the better of the young mare, so she decided to investigate. As she approached the figure she realized it WAS a pony. It was a little pegasus filly. She couldn't have been older then five or six. She was orange with a long flowing purple mane.

Dash landed beside the child and tried nudging her awake, “Hey, kid, you alright?” stupid question, of course she's not, “I'll get you some help.”

Rainbow Dash picked up the little filly and flew back to town. She was trying to decide what to do. The hospital won't be finished for another few months, and the clinic is closed on Sunday.

“Fluttershy's it is.”

Dash's old friend was the only pony she knew that knew anything about treating injuries. Sure it was for animals but how different could it be.

She landed at her door and knocked hard, “Fluttershy! Are you there? I need help.”

The door flung open, but not by the expected yellow pegasus. Instead it was that prissy white unicorn friend of her's.

“How rude. Banging on somepony's door like that.” she said.

“Well excuse me. I kind of have an emergency.” Dash indicated the unconscious filly in her hooves.

“Oh! Oh my, Fluttershy!” said the unicorn.

Rainbow Dash tried remembering her name. It was something like Rareness or something.

As RD brought the filly inside she noticed another filly beside Rareness. They looked alike so it's probably her sister or something. She was about the same age as the orange filly.

Rainbow Dash laid the filly on the couch so Fluttershy could take a look at her. Fluttershy immediately got to work.

“Big sis, who's she?” asked the little unicorn.

“I don't know. I’ve never seen her before.” replied Rareness.

“I really like her mane.” said the filly.

“What happened Rainbow Dash?” asked Fluttershy.

The prismatic pegasus explained, “I was on my way home from work and she was just passed out on the road. I didn't see anypony else around, so I figured she ran away or something.”

Fluttershy had a tear forming in her eye, “Oh, the poor dear. You don't think she's all alone do you?”

The thought never crossed Dash's mind. Orphans weren't unheard of but it was a rare thing in Equestria. What few there are are usually adopted by family right away.

“I hope not.” said Dash.

“I'll go to town hall and ask if there has been any missing ponies reported.” said Rareness.

“OK.” said Fluttershy as the unicorn left, “Hurry back... um, if you can.”

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

“Flu...y I.. nk she's... up.”

ouch, my head hurts the little filly thought to herself.

She became aware of the world again. Her eyes burned in the light when she tried opening them.

“M...mommy?” she said.

“Shh, it's OK, kid. You're safe.” said a voice.

She finally opened her eyes to see a pair of kinda-almost red eyes. They looked worried.

“How ya feelin', squirt?” asked the mare.

The mare backed up a bit giving her a clear look at the stranger. The filly was drawn to her mane, It looks like she has a rainbow on her head.

“Hey kid. Are you alright?” she said.

“I have a name, rainbow head.” said the filly.

“Well what is it?” asked the mare.

“It's... um” the filly scrunched up her face in thought, my name? she thought, w, what IS my name.

She got very scared and was breathing heavily. Why couldn't she remember her name. Her head started hurting worse, and she wrapped her hooves around her head and cried from the pain.

“Whoa, whoa, calm down. What's the matter?” the mare asked.

The filly spoke through tears, “I, I, I don't know! I don't know my name! What's wrong with me? Why don't I know my name?”

“Fluttershy! We need you inhere quick.” the mare said before moving to put her fore hooves around the poor filly, “It's OK. You're going to be OK.”

“W, Who are y, you?” asked the filly.

“My name's Rainbow Dash.” said the mare.

“How did I get here?” was her next question.

“I found you on the road on my way back. Do you know how you got there?” Dash asked. The filly shook her head.

A yellow mare entered the room and asked, “Is everything alright?

“This is Fluttershy. She's a vary nice pony.” ash said, “She can't remember her name OR how she ended up on the road. I’m worried about her.”

“Oh my. That's not good at all.” said Fluttershy, “Is there anything you do remember, sweetie?”

The orange filly shook her head, “No. Am I going to die?”

Fluttershy was about to pull the filly into a hug, but to her surprise Rainbow Dash beat her to it.

“Of course not, squirt. I’ll make sure you're going to be fine.” said the rainbow maned pegasus, “After all I AM the most awesome pony in Equestria.”

The filly looked up at her rescuer and smiled, I like her. She's cool.

A knock at the door preceded two white unicorns.

“There have been no missing ponies reports filed.” she said, “Oh, you're awake. Pleasure to meet you, I’m Rarity and this is my little sister Sweetie Bell. What's your name, darling?”

“Um, I don't know.” replied the filly.

“You don't have a name?” asked Sweetie Bell, “That's weird.”

“Sweetie Bell!” Rarity scolded her sister, “Do not be rude. Now apologize to the poor dear.”

“I'm sorry.” Sweetie said.

“It's OK.” the filly accepted the apology, “Do you want to be friends?”

“Yeah. I don't have any here. I live in Fillydelphia with mom and dad, so I’m not here much.”

Rarity interrupted, “That's sweet, but somepony needs to take her to city hall to file a report.”

“I'll take her.” said Rainbow Dash, “You three can get back to whatever you were doing. Come on squirt. See ya Fluttershy, see ya Rareness.”

“Ahem, my name is Rarity, not Rareness.” said the posh pony.

“What ever.” Rainbow brushed her off, “Come on.”

Rainbow took off and started flying towards town hall.

“Hey, wait!” said the filly.

Dash turned around to see the filly jumping and flapping her wings only to fall again.

“Quit playin' around and fly up here.” Dash said.

“I'm trying.” said the filly.

“Huh, you must have damaged a primary or something.” she said landing next to the filly, “Guess we're walking.”

The walk back took WAY too long in Rainbow Dash's eyes, and that was just to the edge of town.

“This is taking forever.” Dash said and suddenly got an idea, “Wait here kid.”

The cyan speedster took off leaving the child behind. Quickly arriving and the shop she needed. She bought the thing she needed and went strait back to the kid.

“Here, use this to keep up.” Dash said holding out something the filly had never seen before.

It was a board with wheels and a stick that came up before splitting to either side. She looked at it confused.

“What is it?” she asked.

“It's a scooter. It an earth pony and unicorn toy.” Dash set it down and pick the filly up to put her on it, “Now you hold the handle bars and push off the ground with a hoof.”

The filly gave an experimental kick with disappointing results. Then she had an idea. She started flapping her wings as fast as she could.

Rainbow Dash was impressed she had never seen anypony move their wings that fast before. It was so fast not only were the kids wings a blur but they made a buzzing sound.

In a flash the scooter took off like a bat out of Tartarus. Dash watched for the inevitable crash, but it never came. The filly maneuvered the toy as if she had been doing it her whole life.

Dash motioned the little girl to follow her and the two arrived at town hall in less than a minute.

“Hey, kid, I think I know what to call you until we find out your real name.” Dash said when the filly pulled up, “What do you think about Scootaloo?”

The filly beamed at her new name, even if it was only temporary.

“Alright, Scootaloo it is.” Dash said as they went into town hall.

Now Dash was never very good with paper work but she kinda cared for that filly. Eventually they finished filling out the 'found foal' forms and left town hall. Fluttershy said she could tack her for a couple of days. After that Rarity, and, providing whatever was wrong with Scootaloo's wings was fixed, Rainbow Dash after that.

The cyan mare took Scootaloo to Fluttershy's. She had planned on returning the scooter for a refund, but after seeing how much fun the kid was having with it she couldn't bring herself to take it.

After being tucked into bed the filly asked, “Will you come see me tomorrow?”

“Yeah, sure. Right after work. Maybe you can play with Rareness's sister until then.” Dash said.

“That would be nice. You're so cool Ms. Dash. I wanna grow up just like you.” Scootaloo said.

“Just call me Rainbow Dash, or Rainbow, or Dash. I don't need the whole 'Ms.' thing, OK.”  Dash said.

Scootaloo twiddled her hooves before asking, “Um, Rainbow Dash... if we don't find my parents... would... um... you be my mommy?”

Dash was taken back by that. Her a mother? She was only 18, and nowhere near ready to take care of a filly. Dash just smiled.

“Don't worry, Scootaloo, we'll find your parents in no time. Heck you'll probably be back with them by the end of the week.”

11 years later

The restricted section of the Royal Archives are where the most sensitive and dangerous tomes of magic and lore could be found. Very few ponies know of it's existence and fewer still have stepped hoof in it.

On this night though the silence there in was disturbed by the gargled sounds of the guards choking on their own blood from the gaping wound on their necks.

The thick iron door, now undefended, was cut from the wall it was attached to.

The shadowy figure of a warped and  twisted canine browsed through the books and scrolls, searching for something. The stone set into the black steel claw shimmered in the light as it glided over useless volumes.

“Ahh, here you are.” said a dark malevolent voice.

The unclawed paw traced the ancient writing on the cover. It was not written in Standard (Equestrian as it's known in this world), but an ancient language that only four beings could comprehend. One was the goddess of the sun, one the goddess of the night, another the chief of the Zeblu, and the last was the creature now prowling the archives. There use to be a fifth an ancient dragorin, but that was before he begged for a merciful death.

“This will serve me well.” the creature laughed, “Worry not. I will kill you, father.”

The image on the cover depicted a black skull surrounded by five other symbols. The writing read in the ancient language...

The Elements of Darkness

Chapter 1: Belladonna and the Bullies

The bell rang signaling the end of the day. All the colts and fillies put their books in their saddlebags and soon the class room emptied.

Three fillies left together as always. These three were very unique, and not because they have more runes than other fillies their age. These three, along with Midnight Star, are the Elements of Order, the counterparts to the Elements of Harmony.

Applebloom, the Element of Strength, Sweetie Bell, the Element of Wisdom, and Scootaloo, the Element of Courage. Few know who they really are. That way they can live a normal life.

“Guess who's waiting for us?” said Scootaloo.

“Ah can guess.” replied Applebloom, “Where?”

“Other side of the wall.” Scoots said.

She couldn't see them. She couldn't see any thing. She lost her eyes when she was attacked be a monster in the Everfree over a year ago. Like most creatures that rely on eyesight, when ponies lose it other senses improved to make up for the loss. In Scootaloo's case it was a sense unique to pegasi, her ability to sense electrical currents. Scootaloo can even sense the electrical energy in living things and magic.

“Ah have an idea that'll really piss em off.” Applebloom said, “Sweetie get out yer music player”

The teen unicorn retrieved a device from her saddlebags. One of Magecraft industries most popular items, the portable music player, the R-pod, stores and plays music with a series of runes.

Sweetie played a new song of hers on it, as they passed by a pair of rich bullies.

“What are you losers listening to?” asked Diamond Tiara.

“Belladonna.” Sweetie said casually.

“It's not a song I know, and I have all her albums.” said Silver Spoon.

“That's cause it's not out yet.” said Scootaloo.

“Yeah right, if it's not out how did you losers get it?” asked Diamond.

“All her friends get her albums early.” Applebloom said as if it were obvious.

The bullies looked at each other and started laughing.

Silver Spoon said, “Belladonna is THE top artist in Equestria and the coolest of the cool. Why would she be friends with you three?”

It was the three friends turn to laugh. The two spoiled kids didn't know that Belladonna is Sweetie Bell's stage name. She uses a spell Twilight taught her to change her coat and mane color and style as well as her cutie mark so nopony recognizes her.

“What's so funny?” Asked Diamond.

“Oh, nothing. You can always ask her yourself when she gets here tomorrow.” said Scootaloo.

“Oh, we will. We already have backstage passes. We're going to meet her in pony.” Diamond said smugly.

The two bullies walked away. With their noses in the air.

“This is going to be good” said Scootaloo with an evil grin.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

Midnight watched the events that unfolded between the five fillies from the safety of a cloak spell. He had to stifle a laugh when the two stuck up fillies stormed off. His fellow elements had big smiles on their faces as the walked by him, still invisible.

“Hey Midnight, enjoy the show.” said Scootaloo.

He knew he his cloak spell didn't work on her. She could sense him as well as the spell.

He dropped the spell startling the other two, “I did. I shouldn't have, but I did.” he didn't like those two anyway.

“What's up Midnight.” Applebloom said.

“I'm all right, how about you girls.” he replied.

“I think we are much better after venting a bit of stress.” said Sweetie, “So what can we do for you.”

“I'll give you a hint. Rainbow Dash asked me too come since her leg's still healing.” Midnight said looking right at Scootaloo.

“Heh heh, I swear she's always getting hurt.” Scootaloo said laughing nervously, rubbing the back of her neck with a hoof.

“Don't change the subject, young lady.” Midnight was serious, “Introduce me.”

Midnight wasn't always playing and goofing off, but was almost never SERIOUS. They knew when he was not to play around.

“We're meeting up in a few minutes just over here.” she said, “Please be nice.”

“We'll see.” Midnight said, “Say nothing.” he put the cloak spell back on.

Midnight thought of the girls as family and was a bit protective but not stiflingly so. He wanted them to grow, but he refused to let anypony hurt them.

After a few minutes an pegasus colt trotted up. He was dark, storm cloud gray, and had a fire red mane with a yellow stripe. His eyes were an emerald green. A dark storm cloud with a light coming from behind adorned his flank.

“Hey, Humming Bird.” he said giving her a peck on the cheek.

“Hey, Stormy. I missed you.” Scoots giggled.

Midnight cocked an invisible eyebrow. She was acting... girly.

“You just saw me three hour ago.” 'Stormy' said.

He didn't seem to be getting too touchy with her, so midnight dropped the spell causing the colt to jump.

“What the hay!” the colt said jumping between Midnight and the fillies protectively, “Where did you come from?”

“I've been here.” Midnight said, “I just wanted to get a good idea of how you act with my niece when no adults are around.”

“Niece?” asked the colt.

“Midnight, this is Storm Shade, my... uh, coltfriend. Stormy this is, Midnight Star, my uncle. Well not by blood but, you know. My mom and him are like brother and sister.”

“I understand. It's a pleasure to meet you sir.” Storm put his hoof out, “I've heard a lot about you.”

Midnight took it and said, “I'm happy to meet you as well. So far I like you. You weren't too forward with Scoots.” he leaned in closer until there noses were less then an inch away, “but I’m still watching you. I have eyes everywhere,” three golems popped out around them, “and I mean everywhere.” the metal men retreated back to where they came from.

“Oh, don't worry, sir. I was raised to respect mares.” he said, “I would never dream of disrespecting her, and I’m not just saying that because you could kick my flank while hog tied either.”

I like this kid., Midnight thought, “Good.” he sat in quiet thought for a few seconds, “I'll tell Dash you're alright, but if you hurt her”  he lifter his mechanical hoof, and with the sound of metal on metal, separated the hoof into a hand, grabbed a rock and crushed it in front of him, “I WILL break you.”

He swallowed hard, “Of course Mr. Star. I understand perfectly.”

“Good.” Midnight said lightheartedly, “Be at Scootaloo's house at six tomorrow for dinner. Have fun you kids.” he turned and trotted away waving his natural hoof.

“Wow, he can be scary.” said Storm.

Scootaloo smirked, “You have no idea.”

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

“Rarity, are you here?” Sweetie called as she walked into the Carousel Boutique.

“I'm in the back, Sweetie Bell.” called the fashionista.

Sweetie Bell went back to greet her sister, “Hello, Rarity, is my outfit ready.”

“Just finished it this morning.” Rarity said, “Go try it on.”

Sweetie Bell took the dress in her magic and went into the dressing room. The room is more meant for 'dramatic reveals then privacy, but in Sweetie's case privacy is needed. After a flash of light, a almost-white purple unicorn with a long white mane brushed to one side, and a star in a spotlight for a cutie mark stepped out.

The dress was a simple white dress and with belladonna flowers on it.

“What do you think?” she asked.

“My my, Belladonna, you look stunning.” Rarity said with a giggle, “It's still so strange seeing you like that.”

“I know, at the concert before last I past by my mirror and shot a stun spell at it because I thought somepony broke into my room. It ricocheted off and his Applejack right in the face.” the two let out very unladylike laughs.

“Oh my, that's dreadful.” Rarity said, but the laughing said otherwise.

“She was surprisingly calm after I undid it. I figured she forgave me for it until after the shoe when a hoof hit me right in the face.” Sweetie laughter returned full force.

Rarity stopped laughing. She was surprised at her sister laughing at being assaulted by her friend, but was then reminded of the fight she had gotten into with Rainbow Dash a couple months prior. They had both acted in a very unladylike fashion.

Sweetie went back into the changing room, and after another flash came back out as herself. She packed the dress in a garment bag, and took a seat beside her sister who had just made tea for the two of them. They sat and talked for some time before it was time for Sweetie to get ready.

Sweetie got ready to 'visit her parents'. Of course she was just leaving so Belladonna can arrive.

“Come. We don't want to miss your flight.” said Rarity.

The pair went outside to the waiting carriage. Sweetie hopped in and waved her sister goodbye as she took off. She flew for about an hour before another larger carriage appeared from the opposite direction.

Instead of just passing by though the two stopped side by side. The larger carriage opened it's door and Rainbow Dash poked her head out.

“Let's go.” she said.

Sweetie tossed her bag's over and Dash helped her cross. The door shut and the two continued on their paths.

“Scoots told me about the little prank you three have set up for those girls at school.” Dash said, “I don't want you to go over board with it. Other then that, I’m looking forward to those two eating their words.” she may be a bit older but it's still Rainbow Dash.

Sweetie changed her appearance while dash slipped into her uniform.

“Alright, I'll see you in a bit.” Dash said as she opened the door and leaped out to meet her team.

After a bit the carriage landed in front of the Ponyville inn. The door opened to the questions and flashing light's of the press. Sweetie, now Belladonna, ignored them and pushed through.

A small group of ponies approached asking for autographs which she happily gave before heading into her room and settling in for the night.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

The concert hall was completely sold out, but that's nothing unusual. Belladonna wasn't some teen pop star, she was Equestria's top rock artist. Her music was loved by almost everypony, and most of the town was there.

As the last song came to a close, the cheers reached a peak. She took a bow, thanked her fans and turned to head off stage where two annoying rich fillies waited. Sweetie Bell smiled at them, but not because they were fans.

“Hello, I’m Belladonna, as I’m sure you know.” Sweetie said, her voice slightly different.

“I'm Diamond Tiara, and this is Silver Spoon. We are, like, huge fans.” the two held out pieces of paper.

“It's always a pleasure to meet fans.” she signed the papers, walk with me. I'm meeting a couple of friends.” it took every ounce of willpower to be nice.

“Oh, more famous artists?” asked Silver.

“No, not famous, but still the two coolest fillies in Equestria. My other friend had to go visit her family, but I’ll see her later.” she said.

“Hey, Bella!” called a voice.

“How's it going Bloom, Scoots.” she said.

“It's been good.” Applebloom said, “Sweetie said she's sorry she couldn't be here.”

“It's OK. I’m heading to Fillydelphia next anyway. I’ll stop by and say hi.” Belladonna said.

During this whole interaction the two rich fillies watched, jaws hanging. They couldn't believe what they were seeing. Two of the biggest losers in Ponyville chatting with Belladonna as if they were old friends.

“I'm going to spend some time with my friends, OK. Bye Diamond Tepee, bye Silverware.” said Bella.

The three fillies left the other two in shock and went back to the dressing room. As soon as the door was shut they broke out in laughter.

“Did you see there faces?” Applebloom said when she calmed down a bit.

“I thing I heard their hearts stop for a second.” said Scootaloo.

“Watch them try to be nice at school now. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried giving us stuff hoping we'll get them in good with Belladonna.” said Sweetie Bell.

“Like that'll work.” Scootaloo scoffed, “I'm still keeping anything they give me.”

“Ya know with those two it'll be jewelry or perfume, right Scoot.” Applebloom said.

Scootaloo turned away and replied nervously, “I-I know. I meant I’d accept it so I can sell it later.”

“Sure... after you wear it for Storm you mean.” teased Sweetie.

“What?! No way I don't wear jewelry or perfume for anypony.” Scootaloo said.

“Ya also don't giggle 'r blush, right?” Applebloom said.

“Shut up.” Scootaloo snapped.

“Did Ah hit a nerve with ya?” Applebloom said mockingly, “Ah know how sensitive ya can be.”

“You wanna see sensitive?” Scootaloo swung on the little craftspony.

The two went at it for a minute until Sweetie grabbed them up with her magic.

“You know if you break anything I have to pay for it.” she said.

Scoots crossed her forelegs, “Spoil sport.”

Chapter 2: A Family Dinner

Rainbow Dash glared at the colt that stood on her doorstep. In her mind he was trying to steal her daughter away.

“Mom?” Said Scootaloo behind her, “Are you going to invite him in?”

She didn't say a word. She just wheeled to the side, her leg still in a cast.

Midnight, Twilight, Aurora, and Jacob were there as well. The adults were all talking in the living room, while Aurora played with Tank.

Storm quickly greeted those he knew, “Hello Mr and Mrs. Star.” he said to Midnight and Twilight.

“Hello Storm,” said Midnight, “This is our daughter, Aurora, and my brother, Jacob. This is Storm Shade”

“He-hello,” Storm said to the tall biped.

He knew Midnight wasn't always a pony (everypony in town did), and he had seen the human before at a distance. Now that he was meeting him face to face, though, he was kinda scary. He was as tall as Celestia for pony's sake!

“Nice to meet'cha.” he said with a smile.

“Hi!” Aurora said bouncing around, “Do you like cupcakes? Aunt Pinkie makes the best cupcakes. I ate six of them before coming over here and... oops.”

“Did you now?” asked Twilight.

“Sorry, mommy.” Aurora pouted.

“I'm going to have to have a chat with Pinkie... again.” Twilight face-hoofed, “Why do I bother?”

“Let's just eat.” said Rainbow Dash.

Twilight and Midnight dished out the barley burgers (grilled salmon for Jacob) and salads.

“So, Storm,” Dash began, “tell us about yourself.”

“Well, what's to say?” started the young pegasus, “I'm lived on my own in Canterlot for several years.”

“Wait,” Midnight interrupted him, “You lived on your own? As by yourself? What about your family?”

Storm continued, “I lost my family during the changling invasion.”

“Oh, my. I am so sorry.” Twilight said, “A lot of ponies suffered because of those changlings. They're terrible, evil creatures.”

“Can we move on, please.” Storm said, “This is an uncomfortable subject for me.”

Scootaloo put her hooves around his neck and touched her forehead to his, “It's OK, Stormy. We'll change the subject.”

“Aunt Dashie?” Aurora said, “Why's Scootaloo acting like a girl?”

Dash,Twilight, Midnight, and Jacob burst into fits of laughter.

“What?” the filly asked, “What's so funny?”

“Never mind, Aurora.” Scootaloo said, “Please continue, Storm.”

The filly, having finished her food, excused herself to play in the living room

The pegasus colt continued, “Well I lived on my own for several years. About two years ago I heard about this town, and how it's been growing faster then any other town in Equestria. I came here because being homeless in Canterlot is hard. Here ponies will lend a helping hoof.”

“That's terrible.” Twilight said, “Well, how did you meet?”

Storm got nervous, “Well... um... you see, I was starving, right. I hadn't eaten in four days. So I... um... kinda... broke in to your house.”

“YOU WHAT!” Rainbow Dash was furious, “ You broke in to our house?!”

“Mom!” Scootaloo said, “He just said he hadn't eaten in four days. let him finish, please.”

Storm continued again, “Anyway, I broke in looking for some food. Well, out of nowhere Scootaloo kicked me in the head.”

Scoots took over, “That's when I realized how weak he was. I was rather concerned. I don't think he would have lasted long without food. I fed him and dragged him to the hospital.”

“Wow.” said Twilight with a smile, “That's quite the romantic story.”

“Somepony broke in and you didn't tell me.” Dash said.

“Would you have understood if I did?” Scootaloo asked.

“Probably not.” RD admitted, “So what happened after that?”

Storm spoke again, “I found her and thanked for not only feeding me but not turning me in. I finally got up the courage to ask her out a month ago.”

“I'm not too happy that I'm just now finding out about this.” Said Rainbow.

“We just wanted to see if we would work out before mentioning it.” Scootaloo said, “We were talking about telling you next weekend.”

“Sounds like they had you in mind, Rainbow.” Twilight said.

“OK, fine.” Dash said, “I'll allow it, but you had BETTER be a gentlecolt. If you hurt my daughter, I’ll tear your wings off.”

Storm look at Twilight and Jacob. Their stern looks told him they would continue where Rainbow Dash left off. Considering Midnight had already given him his ultimatum, he was thoroughly scared.

“It's gotta be nice having so many ponies willing to go homicidal for you.” Storm chuckled nervously.

“Then watch yourself” said Scoots, “All I have to say is 'Oh no, you're hurting me', and...”

Aurora only heard the last part from the other room.

“Don't you hurt Scooter!” she yelled and threw him through the wall.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

“I'm sorry.” Aurora said, her eyes locked on her hooves as she kicked the ground.

“It's OK.” said Storm holding an ice pack to his head, “You just thought I was hurting Scoots.”

He couldn't believe such a little filly could be so powerful. He didn't really get a good look at the child before, but now that he did he noticed her diamond horn. He'd have to ask about that.

“I'm surprised you're not hurt worse.” said Rainbow Dash, “That would have put me in the hospital, and I’m tough.”

“I'm just tough. My skin might as well be armor. Lucky for me.” Storm laughed.

“You ready to go, kid?” Jacob asked Aurora.

“Yay! I'm gonna get to play with Grandma Tia, and Auntie Luna, and Auntie Fluttershy, and Uncle Big Mac, and Poesy, and Philomena, and Noodles.” she said as she jumped into Jacob's arms.

“Ready when you are.” Jacob said.

Aurora's horn shone with white light and in a flash the two were gone.

Storm's brain function stopped for a moment, “How?”

“She's gifted.” Twilight stated.

When function was restored, his mind was able to form the question he wanted, “Did she say 'Grandma Tia and Auntie Luna'? As in the princesses?”

“Princess Celestia is like a mother to me, so...” Twilight trailed off.

The klutzy gray mailmare landed beside the group and handed them a flier before taking back off.

“Well hello to you, too, Derpy.” Dash said, “I guess she's in a hurry.”

“What was that about?” asked Midnight.

“It's a flier.” Twilight read holding it in her magic, “It says, The citizens of Ponyville are invited to witness the first show in the return tour of Trixie. This show will be free of charge as an apology for the terrible performance of nearly nine years ago. I hope to see everypony there, especially those I personally wronged.

“It's tomorrow at three. I hope she really did change for the better.”

“Who's Trixie?” asked Storm.

Rainbow Dash huffed, “A big show off. She's an illusionist. Always talking in the third person and humiliating other ponies.”

“Now Rainbow Dash, it's been almost nine years. She's probably grown up a bit. Plus it sounds like she's sorry. I, for one, am looking forward to the show. I'll tell the girls. This is going to be fun.” Twilight said clapping her hooves together.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

That evening was ranged rune combat training for the Elements of Order. Sweetie Bell was the best of the three fillies in this aspect. Midnight even thought she would be better then him if she could use a seal.

Scootaloo on the other hoof was terrible. She opted for runes that boosted her mobility. As a result she was the best fighter of the Dawn Shield, but was all but useless at distance. This was something Midnight was trying to fix.

“I don't see the big deal.” said the cocky orange pegasus, “If anypony tries shooting at me I can just dodge and knock them silly.”

“Because if it's a dragon or something similar, it would just have to fly out of your reach. What would you do then?”

“I'll let Sweetie Bell, you, or mom handle it. We're a team after all.” she said.

“What if something happens to us and your left alone.” Midnight replied, “It's a very real possibility.”

“I have a fire rune.” she stated.

“Which you're terrible with.” Midnight was at his wits end trying to convey the importance of ranged combat, “Applebloom is a close range combatant too, but she's learned to use her water rune at long range. She can't beat Sweetie, Twilight, Rarity, or myself, but she can hold her own against most any threat she needs to.”

“Ok, fine, I’ll train more seriously.” She finally gave in.

Scootaloo didn't see why she would be alone fighting a dragon, but Midnight was her Commander, so she gave him the benefit of the doubt.

She stood on her hind legs and focused on the runes imbedded into her fore legs just above her hooves. They glowed as flames formed in front her and flew at a series of targets. She fired ten shots at ten targets only hitting three.

That was why she hated ranged combat. She could never get the hang of it. No matter what she tried she sucked at range, but as a member of the Dawn Shield she had to obey orders.

They trained for another hour before they decided to head over to Sweet Apple Acres for the night. Since Sweetie was suppose to be visiting her folks she was disguised as Belladonna again. This slowed them a bit as a few more fans stopped to ask for autographs or pictures. She loved her fans and happily obliged them.

When they finally arrived at the farm house Sweetie dispelled the disguise, and the three fillies went up to Applebloom's room.

“So how did it go with Storm and your mom?” asked Applebloom.

“Like interrogating a suspected terrorist,” Scoots said, “but she gave her OK, so now We're official.”

“So...”Applebloom grinned and asked, “Ya gonna sleep with him?”

“Applebloom!” cried Sweetie, “That's not a question you ask.”

“No!” Scootaloo's face was bright red, “We haven't even really kissed. Not on the lips anyway.”

“Ah know. Ah'm just teasin' ya, that's all.” Applebloom said, “It's worth it ta see that blush on yer face.” she burst out in laughter.

“That is rather funny.” Sweetie said giggling.

“Shut up.” Scootaloo said, “You're just jealous cause I found my special somepony.”

“Alright, maybe a bit.” said Applebloom.

“Not me.” said Sweetie, “I already have my eye on a guy, and he likes me two.”

The two others looked at their friend in shock.

“Really? Who? Do we know him?” Applebloom asked.

“I'm not telling, but we're going out when he comes back.” said the super star.

“Does Rarity know?” asked Scoots.

Sweetie nodded, “Yeah, She knows and she's fine with it.”

Applebloom looked crestfallen, “So, Ah'm the only one with out a special somepony.”

“Don't worry, Applebloom, you'll find somepony for you.” Sweetie comforted her friend.

They talked and laughed for some time more before they finally decided to go to sleep.

Scootaloo laid on the bed thinking of Storm Shade. What Applebloom asked brought thought's that would make Dash go insane. Scoots blushed, We are NOT ready for... for that, but maybe I’ll kiss him. she thought, Yeah, after the show tomorrow I’ll kiss him. I can't wait... my first kiss.

With that thought she drifted to sleep with a smile on her face.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

“So what do you think of him?” Twilight asked as she and Midnight sat in the living room holding each other.

“He seems like a nice kid.” Midnight said, “He cares about Scootaloo, I can tell that.”

He was silent for a moment before saying, “He's hiding something.”

“You caught that too, huh?” Twilight said.

Midnight continued, “He's ashamed of something. I’m not sure if it's something bad or not.”

“Kind of like you when you first came here.” Twilight said.

The blue soldier thought back on his bloody past.

“I hope not.” Midnight said.

A smile crossed Twilight's face, “You know, this is the first time in over a year that we have the whole house to ourselves.”

“That it is.” Midnight returned the smile

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” she asked.

“Mmm, I’m think I am.” Midnight said and planted a deep kiss on her lips.

Twilight replied, “I’ll get the whip cream.”

Chapter 3: Trixie's New Trick

Sunlight beamed into the room, waking the two teenage fillies. Applebloom was the first up as she was use to it. Sweetie wasn't far behind her county friend. Scootaloo, for obvious reasons, wasn't woken by the sun so Applebloom gave her a swat to the back of the head.

“Wake up, Scoots.” said the earth pony.

“I will murder you.” replied the pegasus.

“Quit fighting.” said Sweetie, “I got an early flight and I don't want to spend my time before listening to you two.”

“I smell food.” said Scootaloo.

“Alright,” said Applebloom, “Let's go eat.”

The three shuffled down to the kitchen to find Applejack fixing pancakes and haycon. It was Scoots favorite breakfast. She use to love the weeks she stayed with the Apples before Rainbow Dash adopted her. AJ made the best food in Ponyville.

“Mornin' girls. Hope yer hungry.” AJ said as she dished out five generous helpings for the three kids, Big Mac, and herself.

The big red earth pony came inside just in time and the five sat down to eat. Of course the topic shifted to the two love birds, which Scootaloo was happy to talk about.

“Ah say, Scoots, Ah've never seen ya act so... girly” AJ chuckled.

“Hey, I’m not girly. I can kick your flank.” it was true. She even took on her Rainbow Dash and Midnight together, and won.

“So can Fluttershy, but she's as girly as Rarity.” AJ stated.

With nothing coming to mind to shot back, Scoots just groaned and focused on her food. The thing she hated most was “girly” things. She was tough and being girly wasn't tough, but Storm just made her feel so... pretty.

“Ain't nothin wrong with wanting ta be a girl every now and then.” said the cowpony, “Heck even me and Rainbow got all dressed up and fancy when we went to the Gala. Ya can be a girl without bein frou-frou.”

“What's wrong with frou-frou?” asked Sweetie Bell.

“Nothin' if that's what ya like.” she said, “Now let's hurry. We gotta get ya to Canterlot. Ms. Scratch is gonna be waitin.”

They quickly finished off the meal, and Sweetie cast her spell. The four walked down the road to town square where Belladonna's ride waited.

“We'll see ya later, Bella.” said Applebloom as her friend climbed into the carriage.

“Yeah, let me know if you want an awesome stunt pony at your next concert.” Scootaloo said.

“Heck yeah. Rock and dangerous stunts are meant to go together.” replied the rock star.

The three waved to each other as the distance between them grew.

“Come on,” said Scootaloo, “We don't want to be late for school.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

Twilight walked into the classroom looking kind of sick.

“Are you OK, Mrs. Star?” asked the filly in front of Applebloom.

“I just ate too much ice cream last night.” answered the teacher, “Open to page 223...”

Applebloom and Scootaloo maintained a respectable balance between working and slacking off, at least until lunch. The two waited in line for their food when a familiar pair came up behind them.

Scootaloo smiled deviously and, without turning, said, “Hello, Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon.”

“How do you do that?” asked Diamond as Applebloom and Scootaloo turned around.

“I can smell you.” She replied. The rich bullies were mortified. Silver Spoon tried to sneak in a sniff of her friend.

“O, Oh, um...” Diamond started, “We just wanted to say were sorry for how we treated you. We thought you were losers, but if you're friends with somepony like Belladonna you're alright.”

Silver Spoon took over, “So we brought peace offerings.” they pulled out three packages, “One's for Sweetie Bell.”

“Why, thank you, we're in kind a hurry so ya mind if we open them later?” Applebloom asked.

“Of course, open them whenever you like.” said Diamond.

“You owe me ten bits” Scootaloo said smugly.

“Yeah, yeah.” Applebloom said.

Storm arrived and sat beside Scootaloo.

“Hey, humming bird.” Storm said with a peck on the cheek, “You looking forward to that show later?”

“Yeah,” Scootaloo, “Our first official date. I can't wait.”

“Scoots and Storm sittin in ah tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g.” teased Applebloom.

“What are you, five?” chided Scootaloo.

“Eeyep.” she said.

Scootaloo would have rolled her eyes if she had them. She loved her best friends like sisters, but sometimes they just made her want to hurt them, especially Applebloom... so she did. Her speed runes made the motion too fast for the average pony to see.

“OW!!!” Applebloom yelled and gripped her forehead.

Scootaloo smiled knowing her friend focused more on strength and would be seen if she retaliated. She knew to expect something later but right now she just enjoyed the helplessness of her friend.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

“Mom, I’m home” called Scootaloo as she walked inside and deposited her saddlebag by the door.

“How was school?” asked Dash from behind the newest Pony Wars book.

“Meh.” Scootaloo answered.

“Come here, I need to talk to you.” RD said setting the book aside.

Scootaloo reluctantly sat next to her mother on the couch. She knew this was going to be bad.

“I take it you're going to the show with Storm.” Dash started.

“Who told you?” Scootaloo said.

“You did just now.” Dash laughed, “I figured you would. It's what I would have done if I were you. That's kinda what I need to talk to you about.”

“Mom, Twilight already gave me 'the talk' when I was eleven.” Scoots said.

“I know, it's not that.” Dash said rather nervously, “It's about... well...” she tried finding the words, “I don't want you two to... ya know.”

Scootaloo realized where this was going, “Oh geez, mom. We're not going to do... that... anytime soon.”

Rainbow Dash continued, “I know, but if you two, uh, change your minds I've asked Twilight to cast a protection spell on you if you ask. She won't tell me if you do so it'll just be between you and her.” she let out a sigh of relief that was hard.

Scootaloo wrapped her mom in a hug and told her, “Thanks for looking out for me, but I’m not going to need it anytime soon. I won't lie, I thought about it, and might eventually, but not for a while.”

A weight seemed to lift off the cyan pegasus's shoulders, I guess the castration can wait.

“I'm gotta do something.” she said as she ran out the door with Diamond Tiara's gift tucked under her wing.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

The door opened with a ringing bell.

“Welcome to Carousel Boutique where... oh Scootaloo.” said Rarity, “You know Sweetie Bell's not going to be home for a few days right?”

“I know, I’m here to see you.” Rarity looked confused at Scootaloo's reply, “um, I have a date to Trixie's show, and I was hoping you could help me... you know... look pretty.”

Rarity chuckled, “I never thought you would ask for a makeover.”

“I don't want a makeover, I just don't know anything about jewelry.” Scoots said pulling out the box, “I don't even know what these look like.”

Rarity took the package and opened it, “Oh my... these are incredible. Where ever did you get them.”

“They were a gift.” Scootaloo said, “Applejack said I should pretty myself up for dates.”

Rarity cocked an eyebrow, “Applejack... as in Applejack, Applejack. Orange earth pony with a blond mane, always wearing a hat?”

“Do you know any other Applejack?” Scootaloo said.

“No, but I figured you did.” said the posh fashionista, “Either that or there's a changling running around Ponyville.”

“Very funny, I’ll laugh later.” Scoots said, “Can you help me?”

“Of course.” She said, “I'm thinking this one, and this. A touch of makeup, not much. A new mane style maybe. I won't cut it, just style it.”

Scootaloo's mane was a bit longer than she use to keep it, but it was still just as messy.

Rarity got to work on the young tomcolt.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

Storm waited by the fountain in town square. It did irritate him that Scootaloo tends to be late to everything. It's a good thing I love her so much, he thought to himself.

“Hey there handsome.” said a voice from behind him.

“I'm not that good...” his breath caught when he turned to see Scoots, “Looking”

She didn't have her headband covering the scar across her eyes. Instead her mane hung over her right eye, hiding it from view. She had eye shadow of the same grayish purple color her eyes use to be, light red lipstick, and a touch of rouge (that or she was blushing). She had a black collar-like choker with a silver ring and rubies cut like fire around it, mimicking her cutie mark. Simple silver orbs were clipped to her ears. Goddess, she's beautiful Storm thought to himself.

“Well you look good to me.” Scootaloo said.

“Ha, funny. That's why I love you, Hummingbird.” he said

“Why, aitn't you so purdy, Hummingbird.” said a sarcastic country voice.

“I'm going to kick your flank Applebloom.” Scootaloo said.

“Ya don't wanna smear yer make up.” said the yellow earth pony.

“So I felt like looking good for my coltfriend. What's it to you?” said the stunt pony.

“Wait,” said Storm, “I never saw that necklace before, AB.”

The farm filly wore a braided silk necklace with a pendant of her own cutie mark embedded in a golden apple.

“Necklace? And you're teasing me. I have somepony to dress up for, what's your excuse?” Scoots said.

“What can Ah say. Diamond may be a jerk but she knows how ta pick jewelry fer somepony.” said Applebloom.

“Diamond gave you those?” asked Storm, “Why?”

“To get in good with Belladonna.” Scootaloo said with a chuckle.

“Ha, her loss.” he said, “Come on let's go so we can get close to the show.”

“Alright.”  Scootaloo said, “C'mon, Bloom, I’m gonna need your eyes.”

The three made their way to the clearing outside of town where the stage wagon waited. It was still closed up at the time but Scootaloo and Applebloom knew how much it would change if it was like the last one.

A crowd had already started to form around the soon-to-be-stage, and it was growing. Ponyville had grown quite a bit since Trixie's last show, and many residents didn't know what happened. Those that did had mixed feelings about the show mare's return, but most had shown up to give her a second chance.

Scootaloo tried to see into the wagon but all the enchantments laced around it completely hid any energy that could be inside. Refused a peak she decided to scan around and see who was there

After several minutes of waiting a series of clinking sounds could be heard and the stage sprang to life. Applebloom and Scootaloo quickly activated their link runes and sight returned to the blind pegasus from her best friends eyes. Fireworks and lights shot from the stage as it grew to a size that couldn't have fit in a wagon like that.

I guess that's what the enchantments are for thought Scootaloo. She couldn't see energy when using a link rune, but being able to see again was worth it. Even if it wasn't really her seeing.

A voice boomed over the croud, “Welcome Ponyvillians to the return tour of the one and only Trixie.”

A cheer resounded through the gathered spectators, as a figure lifted from under the stage garbed in a blue, star covered cape and hat.

“Thank you for welcoming me back, despite the... misfortune of all those years ago. To be safe though maybe we should tie those two colts up before another Ursa finds it's way here.” she got a laugh out of the crowd.

“That actually happened?” Storm asked, “I thought you were joking.”

The show was decidedly better that the last one. She let off explosions, told a few jokes and stories with illusionary aide. Soon everypony that wasn't already there had made their way into the crowd.

The show was almost over when Scootaloo severed the link with the rune.

She leaned over to Storm and whispered, “let's head to the back. I need to tell you something.”

The two made their way back. Scootaloo's attention on the colt next to her. When they broke free from the crowd Scoots turned to her coltfriend.

“Um,” she started, “I just wanted to say that this time we've spent together has been some of the best time of my life.”

Storm smiled, “I feel the same. I love you, Scoots.”

Scootaloo bit her lip as she ever so slightly leaned in. Storm mimicked her. They grew closer and closer. Scootaloo could hear both of their hearts fluttering. She felt his breath

From the stage Trixie called out, “And now that the whole town is here, the grand finale.” she turned to face the back of the stage.

Scootaloo's thought's were interrupted by a wave of sinister energy coming from the stage. She turned towards the blue showmare and noticed she was wrapped in an energy she had only seen once before.

“Oh my Goddess.” Scootaloo said, “That's not Trixie. It's a changeling!”

“Trixie” turned around and remover her hat and cape. Her form engulfed in a green flame as a tall lean figure replaced the unicorn.

Storm's eyes widened as he recognized the creature as one he hadn't seen since the invasion of Canterlot, “Queen Chrysalis.”

Her right eye was covered in a Phantom of the Opera like mask. It was solid black, with a ruby in the shape of a dagger where the eye would be. This was the source of the dark energy Scootaloo felt.

Panic set in as ponies started to flee but black tendrils shot from the ruby on the changeling's mask beams of energy flew through the air and flowed into ponies eyes. Those that were struck froze as the dark magic seeped into their minds... all but two.

The energy struck where Scootaloo's eyes once were, leaving only a tingle. She shook her head to eliminate what little effect there was. Storm was never even touched.

The two were trying to figure out what happened when every other pony called out at once...

All hail Chrysalis, Queen of Equestria.”

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

All hail Chrysalis, Queen of Equestria.”

It was music to her ears. Chrysalis listened to the sound of her new subjects praising her. It was a dream come true. They were all standing in a still reverence to her magnificence.

All except two. Two young ponies in the back were looking around in confusion. how are they not under my control? she asked herself.

She took off and landed a little distance away from the two, now angry, youths. The female had a deep scar across her sunken eyelids. That explains that one. magic that enters through the eyes can't affect those without them, but what of the other he seemed like an ordinary pegasus. Unless he...

“What did you do to our friends?!” the blind one demanded.

Chrysalis chuckled, “My, aren't you a brave little pony. I could have my new minions tear you limb from limb.”

A number of the towns ponies moved to surround the two nuisances. Their faces blank and expressionless.

“Undo whatever the hell you did to them.” she demanded.

“Or what?” asked the changeling monarch.

Her answer came in the form of the filly launching herself with blinding speed, driving a hoof into Chrysalis' armored chest sending her several feet back. The fillies speed was a shock.

“You dare strike me.”Chrysalis spat, “Get her!”

Several of the ponies around them leaped at the pegasus, and in a matter of seconds were swatted away by the very same.

She has no eyes. How can she fight? Chrysalis barely avoided another blow as she took to the sky.

She expected the young pegasus to fly after her but she just glared from the ground. The other pegasus was struggling to fight off four ponies. She turned back just in time see a fire ball whisk pat her. She scanned for the unicorn that flung it until her eyes caught the red gleam of flames. Another flew harmlessly past before she realized the female pegasus was the source.

“You're just full of surprises.” mocked the queen. The child was not very skilled with the attack. Despite it's impressiveness it was all but useless.

An tan earth pony tried tackling her from behind. The irritation flipped over the mare and struck her in the back of the head before apologizing to this “AJ”.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

Scootaloo hated having to admit it but Midnight was right. Here she was trying to fight a flying threat with no back up.

“Gahh!” cried Storm as he was slammed in side by a powerful bolt of purple magic.

Scootaloo instantly recognized Twilight's energy. Oh no, not Twilight. This fight's over we need to run now. She channeled energy to the runes on the bottoms of her hooves and a cushion of force formed lifting her a couple inches off the ground. With her signature buzz, she darted  to her fallen coltfriend, scooped him up and made a mad dash for the only safe haven she could think of...

The Everfree.

Green bursts surrounded her as she weaved a path around the changling queen's attacks. The tree line was approaching fast... as was a line on ponies waiting to block them.

Scootaloo didn't slow, in fact the turned up the speed. She could feel Chrysalis's energy building in a massive attack. Slowing was not an option.

Just before she collided with the pony phalanx she burst the energy in her hooves launching her over them in a move she had practiced on many occasions. She landed a bit harder with the added weight of Storm on her back.

Scootaloo breathed a sigh of relief as the trees enclosed of them. She was a bit premature in her relaxation as Chrysalis launched her spell at them striking just behind them. The explosion launching the pair through the air.

The orange filly slammed into a tree hard. She felt several ribs crack and break from the impact. Storm was lucky enough to only hit a bush.

He crawled out, his wing mangled from the fight before.

“Come on. It's my turn to carry you.” he said as he dragged her onto his good side.

They went through the forest for several hours until they found a cave and decided to rest inside. Storm set Scootaloo down and assessed their injuries. She had a broken wing and three ribs, while his wing was broken in three places.

“Scoots?” he said getting her attention, “Is it safe for me to heal you?”

Scootaloo focused on her sense searching for any nearby pony and found none.

“It's safe.” she said, “There's nopony around to see you.”

Storm closed his eyes. Focusing as he was wrapped in a green fire. His fur and feathers were replaced by black velvet covered chitin and thin insect wings. A crooked horn sprouted from his fore head and fangs grew from his mouth.

The transformation finished after about twenty seconds, and he opened his eyes to reveal not the normal blue but yellow eyes. He leaned his head down and green fire arced from it to Scootaloo's injured body. She winced in pain as bone mended in a matter of seconds and cuts closed.

Scootaloo let a sigh of relief as the injuries disappeared.

She nuzzled up against him and whispered, “I love you, Stormy.”

Chapter 4: Quest for Canterlot

Storm was desperate. He hadn't had a drop of love for over a week, and was on the verge of starvation. He hated himself for what he had to do, but dieing terrified him.

He decided on his next supplier (it was hard enough without calling them prey). That blind filly from his school. Her love for her mom was very strong, and just a little would keep him going for a while.

Goddess I’m a monster. he thought to himself as he removes his long term physical disguise in favor of the quicker illusionary one. He took on the form of the fillies mother, making sure the mane was just right. He didn't want a friend of hers that might come over to see any difference.

feeding on a blind filly... I’m going to Tartarus for this.

He was already in the house to avoid as many of the mares friends as possible. Now all he had to do was wait.

An hour later the door opened and as voice called out, “Hello?”

Storm replied, “Hey, squirt.” he heard the rainbow mare call her that, “how was sch...” he was interrupted by a hoof to the face and a foreleg pinning him to the wall.

“Who the hay are you?” she asked, “Don't try to lie either. I can sense the illusion spell you're using.”

This was not going as planed to say the least. He didn't know how she knew, but she did.

He saw the anger in her face, and broke down. He had been doing this for far too long. Ever since the love wave blasted away all the changelings away in Canterlot... all except him. He was only eight years old and left alone in a world that hated him.

All the years of pent up self loathing and fear burst to the surface as tears poured from his eyes even as the disguise fell away.

“I'm so, sorry.” he cried, “I just don't want to die. I’m just hungry.”

“What are you?” she asked, “You don't feel like a pony.”

“I'm a ch, changeling.” he said.

Scootaloo recalled the invasion several years ago as rage boiled up. She was about to strike at the abomination, but stopped. She took another look at his dim energy. She had seen energy like that before in the hospital after she broke her leg in a stunt gone wrong. An earth pony was brought in after being found crawling out of the Everfree. He died that night.

It's starving to death. she realized, “Come on. I’ll get you some help.”

Storm expected a lot of things but never help. Was this some trick? Why would a pony help him?

“Didn't you hear me I’m...”

“A changeling. Yeah I heard you.” she said, “and I know what changelings are. I was a flower filly at the wedding.”

Now he was really confused. Not only did she know what changeling were but she was there when Chrysalis tried to conquer. Despite all that she was still trying to help him.

“Why help me?” he asked, “Changelings are the enemies of Equestria. You shouldn't get yourself in trouble just for me.”

“I won't let anypony starve to death.” she said.

It wasn't much, but Storm felt a trickle of sustenance from this filly. It was concern. Concern for him.

“We can get you some love from some where and then you can tell me how you got here.” she said.

Storm dared to hope that he might have finally found a friend

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

“Ahh” cried Storm.

“Almost done.” Scootaloo said.

Unfortunately for Storm his healing powers didn't work on himself, so Scootaloo had to straiten his crumpled wing by hoof and bind it with vines. It was crude but it was what they had.

“Finished. You can stop crying now.” she said.

“Where would I be with out you.” Storm said.

“Dead in a gutter.” she aid plainly.

“That sounds about right.” he gave her a peck on the cheek.

A loud growl echoed in the cave. Storm jumped up with his horn glowing. Whoever was out there managed to sneak past Scoots' senses.

“Um, Storm...” Scootaloo said.

“It's OK. Whatever it is I’ll save you from it.”

“Oh really?” Scootaloo snickered, “In that case I’ll take a barley burger and some hay fries.”

“What?”

“That was my stomach, genius.” Scootaloo said.

“Oh... right,” Storm would have blushed if it were possible.

“I'll be right back. I think I feel something edible.” Scootaloo said and ran out the door only to return twenty minutes later with a few berries in her foreleg, “Here ya go eat up. I already ate a bunch.”

“That's alright. You eat them. I don't need it yet.” he said.

Many ponies believe changelings ONLY feed on love, but that's not true. Solid food is still needed for sustenance. They eat the same things as ponies, just less of it. A meal every few days is enough to sustain them.

“It's OK, Stormy, there's food everywhere in the Everfree Forest if you know where to look, and I know where look.” she said.

Storm smiled and accepted the food.

“So, what now.” he asked.

“We need to get to Canterlot.” Scootaloo answered, “Maybe Celestia will know what to do.”

“So, I’m guessing we're traveling through the forest to get there.” Storm said. Scootaloo just nodded, “It's a good thing I got one Equestria's most dangerous ponies here.”

“You know it.” Scootaloo's ego shone through, “And the best hoof to hoof combat expert in Equestria.” it wasn't a lie she's beaten every other member of Dawn Shield in single combat, even Fluttershy.

“Too bad you can't shoot worth crap.” Storm teased.

“I can still kick your sorry flank from here to Appleloosa.” said the blind warrior.

Storm smiled, “Even after fighting and running for our lives you're still gorgeous. You should ware that stuff more often.”

Scootaloo had forgotten she had the jewelry on. She put a hoof to the necklace thinking about Applebloom. That drew her thoughts to the others.

“They'll be OK.” Storm said picking up on her mood, “Chrysalis wouldn't have used a spell like that if she planned on hurting them. She'll try using them.”

Scootaloo growled at the name, “I hate that bitch.”

“She wasn't always like that you know.” Storm said, “She was once a very kind benevolent ruler. From what I heard she was a... wonderful mother.”

Scootaloo's ears perked up, “She has a foal?”

“Had,” Storm's expression turned grim, “She had a foal. She died. That's what drove Queen Chrysalis crazy. She would have never thought it was a good idea to invade Canterlot otherwise.

“The hive was on hard times. After Nightmare Moon and Discord, ponies were suspicious of each other. It was harder to get food. Our gatherers were easily discovered by the smallest mistake that would have gone unnoticed otherwise. I was young but I still remember seeing two or three changelings that had died of starvation every week.

“I was always fed enough. Because of my healing powers, I was too important to loose. The last healer died thirty years earlier, so they couldn't afford to lose me. We're not exactly common.

“About a year before the invasion the Queen's daughter got sick. With the hive being so malnourished she couldn't fight the disease and died before her fourth birthday. The Queen was... well you can guess.

“The rest of the hive was so eager to invade. I was probably the only one there who didn't want to be, but being the only changeling that can heal wounds I had no choice.

“It was horrible. I saw one of my fellow changelings drive his fangs into a ponies neck. Ponies stuffed into pods. It was awful. Pods are meant to hold emotional energy not ponies, and our fangs are meant to feed from pods but they were used to murder.

“When the love wave passed over I wondered why I wasn't blown away with the others, but I realized it was because they succumbed to evil and I didn't. I'm sorry I’m rambling.” he finished.

Scootaloo smiled sympathetically, “It's OK. I’m happy you told me that. I didn't know it was so bad”

she wrapped him in her hooves and nuzzled his cheek. He felt the warmth of her love wash over him. love given is so much sweeter than love taken he thought to himself Why couldn't Chrysalis see that.

Scootaloo watched as the dim pink energy trickled out of her and gathered in Storm's chest. She always found it amazing.

Celestia's sun fell as Luna took the sky in her own magic. The pony and the changeling watched the act, blissful in each others embrace.

They curled around each other to stay warm as they drifted into an uneasy sleep.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

Storm was backed into a corner, terrified of the ponies before him, each was capable of killing him with ease.. The princesses and Elements of Light glared death at him. All but Scootaloo. She stood between him and her fellow elements.

Celestia said, “How dare you protect an enemy of Equestria!!!”

Scootaloo shot back, “Because he's not evil. He's the kindest, most caring colt I’ve ever met, and I love him.”

“No you don't.” said Rainbow Dash, “He's a changeling. He just used his magic to make you think you love him.”

“It's the same thing his Queen did to my brother.” stated Twilight, “You remember that right.”

“His magic doesn't work like that.” Scootaloo said, “He's a healer. He's healed me several times. He healed all of you!”

“Is that what he said?” asked AJ, “How do ya know he ain't lyin' to ya.”

“Because I know him!”  Scootaloo shouted.

“We do not have time for this” the moon princess pushed to the front of the crowd and made for the still cowering changeling.

“No!” Scootaloo cried as she leaped toward the goddess, striking her on the face with a back leg.

Her form was quickly covered in a golden glow as Celestia threw her to the ground and bound her with magic chains. Celestia tossed her to the guards.

“Take her to the dungeon.” she said, “She's been corrupted.”

Rainbow Dash watched with tears in her eyes as her daughter was dragged out a prisoner. She turned and stared at the Storm with murder in her eyes.

“You bastard.” she spat, “You did that to Scoots. You infected her with your lies!”

She flew strait at the cowering figure, raised her hoof and brought it down on his head.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

Storm sat bolt upright with a cry. He was still in the cave with Scootaloo, who was already awake.

“You alright?” she asked.

He nodded, “Yeah, just a bad dream. I’m fine.”

“You wanna talk about it?” she asked.

“Not really.” he said, “It's OK.”

Scootaloo could tell whatever the dream was it bothered him, but she didn't press him. Instead she just nuzzled him and gave him a peck on the cheek.

“You ready to go?” she said, “We got a long walk ahead. Not to mention monsters.”

“Well, lucky for you you got your own monster.” Storm said.

Scootaloo laughed, “And what can you do?”

“Aim.” He said with a smile.

“I guess I do kind of suck.” she admitted.

They started on their way towards Canterlot. Storm didn't change in case he needed to use his magic. His magic may have been limited but even he could launch concussive bolts and use telekinesis.

Storm kept thinking back to what had happened. There was something that had bothered him. He decided to voice his thoughts. Maybe Scootaloo had some insight.

“Hey, Scoots.” he said, “Did you see any other changelings in town?”

“No, why?” she answered.

“The queen never goes anywhere without an escort.” he said, “Why would she be alone now?”

“I don't know.” Scootaloo nuzzled him again.

“You know,” he said, “eventually everypony will find out about me. Either we'll have to tell them or I’ll slip up. It's inevitable. What will happen then.”

“Don't worry, Stormy,” she said, “I'll protect you.”

Storm's thought's were pulled back to his dream. That's what I’m afraid of.

Chapter 5: Royal Rumble

Scootaloo and Storm Shade had been walking for a day and a half with very little excitement. Finally Canterlot came into view.

“I see it.” said Storm, “I should probably disguise myself. Help me get these vines off. My wing should be healed by now.”

Sure enough, the accelerated healing possessed by the changeling had completely fixed his wing.

“That's better.” he said

After about a half minute he was in his pegasus form that he typically favored.

“Let's go.” said Scootaloo.

As they walked up to the city Scootaloo got an uneasy feeling.

“Stop” she called to her coltfriend, “Somethings not right.”

She focused her sense forward and found a guard. He had a dark aura around his head.

“Oh no” she uttered, “She has the guards.” she felt a few citizens, “the citizens, too. Goddess I hope the princess' are immune.”

Storm winced. He didn't like the thought of having to face his former monarch and possibly Celestia and Luna. Scootaloo picked up on his fear.

“It's OK, Storm,” she said, “You can stay here if you want.”

He shook his head vigorously, “No. there's no way I’m letting you face her alone.”

Scootaloo smiled, “Good, cause I’m going to need you to fly us up to the castle.”

“Right.” he said and took off grabbing her in his legs and making for the looming structure.

He went slowly as to avoid patrols. Eventually they landed on a terrace on one of the towers. They quickly made their way through the tower and down to where the throne room is. A pair of guards stood outside. Both were easily dealt with before they even knew what the orange blur was.

Scootaloo peered into the room and felt Chrysalis sitting in the throne and the weakened energy of the two royal sisters on the floor in front of her. They were bound in some kind of magic. That was a concern, but not as much of one as the other six clouded auras she felt. The Elements of Harmony stood guard before the new queen of Equestria.

“Damn it!” she half whispered, half yelled, “The princesses are hurt, and she has My mom and the others in there. I think they're protecting her.”

Storm was gripped by fear once again, “So what you're saying is six of the most powerful ponies in Equestria are protecting the queen. Can we win?”

The lack of an immediate answer did nothing for his morale, and the answer that did come only worsened it.

“I don't know.” Scootaloo said, “but we have to try. We're all that's left.”

She walked directly in front of the door as Storm changed back into his normal form. With force enough to break one of the hinges, Scootaloo kicked the massive door open and jumped in with Storm at her side.

“There you are.” said the changeling ruler as she smirked at Storm, “It seems I really did missed one.”

“Missed one what?” spat Storm.

“One of my minions of course.” said the evil mare, “I thought I had killed them ALL, but one slipped by.”

Storm's eyes widened in horror. He couldn't believe what he was hearing, but somehow he knew it was true. Now he knew why she didn't have an escort. There was nopony left TO escort her.

“Why?” he asked, the hatred dripping from his words.

“Simple,” she explained, “They were useless to me.”

Storm was shaking with anger as a green aura surrounded him, “So you just threw them away? Like garbage?”

His horn sparked to life and a bolt of green fire flew towards the queen only to hit a purple barrier. Twilight jumped to the aide of her master.

“Scootaloo, you take the elements.” Storm growled, “The bitch is mine”

He took to the air as Scootaloo shot toward her family. Twilight tried using a shield, but it was nowhere near as powerful as her brother's and was quickly shattered by the blindingly fast strikes of the young pegasus.

Bursts of green light flooded the sky as Scootaloo dodged and weaved around spells and strikes of the mares. Luckily for her they didn't seem to be able to use their runes. If they could this would already be over.

They could still fight like they use to. Scootaloo figured they must be acting on instinct alone. Runes require logical, conscious thought, where as martial arts becomes instinctive.

She had access to her runes and was the best fighter of the Dawn Shield, but fighting six skilled mares still put her on the defensive. It took all she had to avoid the deadly strikes and spells her loved ones threw at her.

Above, the two changelings closed the distance and took to fencing with their horns. The queen had power, but thanks to sparring with Scootaloo and the girls, Storm has skill. The two locked horns again

“Do you really think you have a chance?” she laughed.

“I'm stronger than you think, Chrysalis.” he spat her name laced with as much acid as he could muster, “The love I have is given to me, not just somepony I’m copying.”

He released a burst of magic in Chrysalis's face sending her crashing down. He lit his horn ready to finish the cruel creature, but a rainbow comet interrupted his charge. He went crashing this time. Now beset by two opponents there was little he could do. They bashed and battered his body without mercy. In the brief moments between assaults he could see his love similarly suffering, as five ponies beat her senseless, having finally caught her.

Storm had just managed to get a single breath when a purple covered orange mass collided with him, and they both landed in a tangled mass in a corner. They looked up and saw the six elements looking at them with blank emotionless faces. They tried to stand but Storms exhaustion and the bone protruding from Scootaloo's leg kept them on the ground.

Queen Chrysalis reveled in the sight and feel of the emotions flying between the two. She decided to draw out their demise.

“I'm sorry I dragged you into this, Stormy.” Scootaloo's voice was cracking with the tears falling down her face.

“Don't be, Hummingbird.” Storm replied, “I'm glad to be here with you.”

“I just wish I could have seen the real you.” Scootaloo sobbed.

They held each other crying at their failure. It hurt to loose Equestria, but it hurt worse to loose each other.

Scootaloo leaned in closer to Storm as Storm mirrored her action. Their lips met in a deep passion-filled kiss.

Scootaloo watched expecting to see the pink energy flow slowly from her to him like before, but that's not what she saw. Instead, it was like a dam burst and a torrent of vivid red energy flooded into the changeling colt. It filled his chest, then his torso, the his entire being lit up with energy.

Storm's eyes shot open, glowing white with untold power. His body ignited with green flames as the pure, willing love energy overflowed in him. They broke the kiss as his head shot up and, with a yell, released the energy in a wave of fire that spread out. Chrysalis, once again, was thrown from the throne room as the wave washed over the six elements cleansing them of the dark spell's influence as it passed. The purifying fire covered Equestria from Manehattan to Appleloosa, breaking the hold the dark monarch had.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

Midnight burst into the throne room, his medallion drained of energy from his flight. He walked in to find the girls walking uneasily to the corner of the throne room. He made his way to their side and saw something he had only ever heard about.

Cowering in the corner, was a changeling, with Scootaloo in front of it defensively. It was terrified of them. Midnight looked at his wife and friends and saw looks of pure hatred.

Celestia looked down at Scootaloo and said, “How dare you protect an enemy of Equestria!!!”

Midnight saw a look of familiarity, and fear in the creatures face.

“We do not have time for this” the moon princess pushed to the front of the crowd and made for the still cowering changeling.

“No!” Scootaloo cried as she leaped toward the goddess, only to be stopped by the changeling. He pulled her back into a hug. Luna stopped.

“Don't, please.” He said, “I don't want see you get hurt for me.”

Scootaloo cried into his armored carapace, “But I don't want to loose you Stormy.”

“Did she just say 'Stormy'.” asked Dash.

So that's his shame. That's what he was hiding from us. Midnight thought.

Midnight stepped forward and sat beside the two young ponies.

“So, Storm,” he said, “I think you have some things to tell us.”

Storm nodded and told them his life story as he turned back into his pegasus form. He told them about his role in the invasion, how the love wave passed over him, his survival, the real story of how he met Scootaloo, and what happened after they fled into the woods. He finished with the events that had just passed, which got the biggest reaction, especially from Rainbow Dash.

“You kissed him!” Dash yelled, “wha... ho... wh...” she looked ready to pass out.

“Well I kinda thought we were going to die.” Scootaloo's said, “and it was what gave him the power to defeat Chrysalis and cure you guys.”

“So what 're we goin' ta do bout him.” asked Applejack.

“I do not know,” said Celestia, “I'm not sure if he's trust worthy. For all we know this could be a trick.”

“No, princess, it's not a trick,” said Midnight, “Chrysalis won. She was the Queen of Equestria. There was no reason to trick us.”

He let the others think about that. When he saw understanding take hold he continued.

“I think we should let him come back with us, and continue his life like it was. We owe him that much. He can never go back to his own kind after defying her like that.”

“I have no kind anymore.” Storm said, “She killed them all. I’m all that's left.”

Shock was evident on every face.

“She killed her own subjects.” said Luna, “How... How could she do that?”

Nopony else spoke for some time. They were to busy trying to comprehend such a thing.

“Because she saw them as her property.” Midnight said, “I've seen it plenty of times before. Kings and Emperors ordering the slaughter of hundreds, thousands even. All for nothing but to remind the people who's in charge. Because they believe the people exist only to serve them.”

Memories of blood and death filled his mind. Thoughts of innocent women and children begging to be spared before he cut them down. Scars like those never fade. Twilight put her hooves around her husband. Comforting away the painful memories he was reliving.

“Very well.” said Celestia, “I will allow Storm to live in Ponyville under the supervision of one of you. Who will take him in.”

“I will, I will. Pick me.” Pinkie held her hoof up, bouncing.

“Are you sure?” asked the sun goddess.

Pinkie smiled, “Sure I’m sure. I’ve been needing help at the shop anyway.”

“Very well,” said Celestia, “But if you feed on anypony who does not give willingly. I will lock you in the dungeon until you rot.”

“You don't have to worry about that your highness.” Storm said, “I don't need to steal emotion anymore.”

Scootaloo leaned in and kissed him on the lips. Rainbow Dash cringed, trying not to knock the colt out.

“I have all the love I’ll ever need.”

“Um... Scoots?” Dash interrupted, “Why are you wearing jewelry?”

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

The next day Canterlot was abuzz with excitement. Everypony wanted to meet the hero that saved Equestria.

The amphitheater was filled with ponies as well as camera crews to broadcast the event to vid displays supplied to every settlement, town and city in Equestria by Magecraft Industries about four months prior.

Celestia, Scootaloo, Twilight, and Rainbow Dash were trying to calm a hyperventilating Storm Shade. He was going to be presented to Equestria, not as Storm Shade the pegasus, but Storm Shade the changeling. The thing ponies hate most.

“With Princess Celestia introducing you, you have nothing to worry about.” Twilight said.

“I'll warm them up to you before bringing you out.” said Celestia.

“Nonononono,” Storm said, “th-th-th-they're going to k-k-kill me.”

“Please, Stormy.” Scootaloo said nuzzling his chin, “I'll give you another kiss.”

He was up in a flash, “Let's do this!”

Celestia just chuckled and asked, “By the way, is Storm Shade your real name?”

Storm smiled and answered, “No. My real name is...” he made a series of clicks and chirps.

Celestia looked entirely flabbergasted, “So then... Storm Shade?”

He laughed, “That's why I use it.”

The alicorn turned and walked onto the stage to a cheering crowd. She approached the microphone and cleared her throat before speaking into the device.

“Equestrians, yesterday Queen Chrysalis returned to Canterlot for the purpose of stealing the throne. A purpose she fulfilled. Fueled by the stolen emotions of enslaved ponies, her power was even greater than mine or my sisters. I am ashamed to say we were both defeated.”

gasps and murmurs rose from the crowd as the ponies registered the information.

Celestia continued, “Not five minutes later, two young heroes burst into the throne room to confront the evil queen in our stead. One was a young pegasus filly, and the other... was a changeling.”

The combined whispers from the crowd sounded like a roar. Ponies asked if they heard right or if she meant a 'changeling' changeling, or if there was another kind.

“You heard me right, my little ponies. A single changeling, that was disillusioned with Chrysalis's rule, tried living in peace with us. He eventually found love in the filly he came here with, but not love taken. She knew what he was and gave willingly. This gift of love gave him the power to fight his former queen, and like before it was the power of love that defeated Chrysalis, and cured us all.”

She watched the faces of the ponies shift through emotions, until they settled on understanding.

“So without further ado, I present to you, Storm Shade, the hero of Equestria.”Celestia held out a hoof as a black figure stepped onto the stage who nervously and took his place beside the sun princess who levitated a medal shaped like a crescent moon overlaying a sun, “For services to the ponies of Equestria, and standing for what is right in the face of overwhelming odds, I present you with this nations highest honor, The Seal of the Sun and Moon.” she placed the award around his neck, “And as the princess of the day, I invite you to join the ranks of Equestria's most elite protectors, the Dawn Shield.”

The whispers and murmurs stopped.

Storm didn't need to think too hard about it. He knew she was going to ask and he rehearsed something for just this.

He cleared his throat, “I accept this illustrious honor. I vow, as the last of my kind, to show Equestria what changelings once were before Queen Chrysalis was stricken with madness. I will show that we were a peace loving species, and only sought out love freely given.”

Now they know the changeling race is dead and the queen wasn't always evil. he thought, Maybe now they can forgive my kind.

All was silent... deafeningly silent. Storms first thought was that they were mad but then he heard something. It started like a small tapping, and grew until it was more an earthquake. Pony hooves stomping wildly in cheers for their new savior.

Maybe it won't be so bad. he thought.

Epilogue

The class quieted down the moment Twilight entered. She looked quite happy as she walked to the front of the class.

She turned to address the class, “Today is such a beautiful day, I thought I’d just give you the day off. A's for everypony.”

The class looked around at each other confused. It wasn't like her to just let them go.

“What's going on?” a voice came from the door.

Twilight turned to see who it was and saw... Twilight.

The new Twilight walked up to the first Twilight and glared daggers at her, “Get to your seat.”

Storm dropped the disguise as he ran to the back and sat beside Scootaloo, who was struggling to hold back a laugh. She failed and the rest of the class followed.

“You like to have fun, huh.” Twilight said, “OK, I’ll let Midnight know to have fun with you then. How does that sound?”

Scootaloo, Applebloom, and Sweetie Bell all got wide eyed. The only two thoughts in Storms head were, “What does that mean?” and, “How does Scoots do that?”.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

After the fifth mile Storm was ready to collapse. He's ran farther then that before, but the fact that he's carrying Midnight around didn't help. That and they had just sparred for two hours strait just before. He discovered that he can bruise.

They finally stopped in front of a house on a hill outside of town. Jacob was waiting for them.

Oh goddess, what kind of torture am I going to go through now? he thought to himself.

“Attention!” Midnight commanded, “Alright Jacob, do your thing.”

The human walked slowly to the terrified changeling and held out his hand. An intricate design, far more complex than the runes he's seen, glowed in his palm as electricity arced to his chest. He flinched expecting pain, but only felt warmth.

“There you go. Congratulations on your first rune.” Jacob said and did the same thing again on his forehead, “That's good for now. Learn those and I’ll give you another.” with that he turned and walked back into his house.

“Now, Storm, focus on the warmth on your chest.” Midnight said.

He obeyed, and the warmth started tingling until it shot over his whole body. Jacob emerged carrying a mirror. And held it in front of the changeling.

Storm looked at it but saw nothing. Not just “nothing wrong”, but nothing, he wasn't there.

“Am I invisible?” he asked.

“I take you as someone who's best at stealth.” Jacob said, “So I ave you a cloak rune and wind rune.”

“To use the wind rune concentrate on a form, in this case a spinning orb, and the rune simultaneously.” Midnight instructed.

After a second a spinning orb formed by Storm's horn.

“Good, that's the easy part. Now push it at that block over there.” Midnight pointed to a stone block about twenty feet away.

Storm did as he was instructed and pushed the orb strait into the ground ten feet away.

“Not so easy is it?” said Scootaloo as she and her two friends arrive for their own training.

The four young warriors practiced whatever they need to. Applebloom, and Scootaloo practiced with ranged combat, while Sweetie Bell and Storm sparred. After another hour of practice the four walked home.

Storm got plenty of looks as they walked through town, but not the looks of fear or hatred he expected when he got back a week ago. They looked at him with something close to reverence. Most smiled at him as he passed.

“I never thought I would be accepted so easily.” he said, “I mean, I’m not exactly normal.”

Sweetie Bell laughed, “If you haven't noticed, this is Ponyville. Here, normal isn't normal. Plus you did kind of save the world.”

“My hero.” Scootaloo said and gave him a kiss.

Sparks flew... literally.

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

Twice.

She was defeated TWICE the same way. The first time was humiliating enough but to be beaten by one of her own minions, that was unforgivable.

Chrysalis's second flight landed her in the badlands far outside of the sisters rule. Nothing survived here, not even changelings. This was to be her grave.

She thought when the thing appeared on her face that she would be unbeatable. The mask's powers were limited to entering the eyes of ponies. She didn't count on a blind filly and ANY non-pony ,much less one of her own, being a threat.

“Damn, you, you little bitch.” she cursed the filly, “I swear if I get one more chance I will tear you apart while that traitor watches.”

“Would you now?”

Chrysalis spun around looking for the source of the voice. Standing behind her was a creature like she had never seen before. It looked like a disfigured werewolf with a red-brown coat and a black steel claw. No, not a wolf Chrysalis thought to herself, A coyote.

“Who and what are you?” she asked.

“I am Nag-Ta, a demon lord.” it said.

It's voice was far deeper than she expected from a creature so small. It wasn't much taller then a pony, and would have been a few inches shorter on all four.

“I can help you get revenge.” it said.

“What could a creature as small and weak as you do for me?” she sneered.

He reached out and touched her with his clawed paw. The moment he made contact a tremendous pain shot through her entire body. She screamed in agony as a sadistic grin spread across his face.

“I am your master. Do you understand?” he said. She nodded, “Good, now come my Element of Deception, we have others to find.”

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

In the turmoil that Chrysalis's attack caused nopony noticed the smug smile, sunglasses or lewd hand gesture the statue of Discord suddenly had.
