Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Rude Awakening

It was early in the morning, so early Celestia still had to raise the sun, when you woke up to the sound of thunder. You tried to get up, but unluckily for you, you had managed to find the fluffiest cloud in the skies over Ponyville. Normally this would be a good thing, but this time it was the worst possible thing, seeing as you were partially trapped inside the cloud. As you struggled you heard the thunder getting closer, the feeling of electricity starting to course through your body. Fuck, fuck, fuck!, you shouted inside your head, knowing that within a few minutes you would be cooked alive due to the lightning. You heard another loud bang, then another, and another, each time the period between them getting smaller and smaller.
"Son of a bitch! I can't die here!" you shouted into the air, hoping that a weather pony might hear you and come to your rescue. You felt electricity build up around you, and in your head you silently tried to be forgiven for every bad thing you had done in your life, when you felt the cloud around you break apart. You opened your eyes to find yourself falling down from the clouds, as bolt of lightning shot across the hole where you were just a second before. Thinking that a kind weather pony had saved you, you looked around to try and find them, but there was nopony around. What the fu..., you thought to yourself, only now realizing that you were falling at such a speed that an air cone was beginning to form around you. As you tried to flap your wings you felt the air cone coming to a point, the sound barrier about to break, when your wings shot open, causing you to fling high into the sky, flying straight through the hole you had made in the clouds.
"SON OF A BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH!" you yelled as you hit the apex of your flight, now falling just as fast back down towards the cloud layer. You brought your forelegs forward in the hopes that you could punch a hole through the cloud layer once more. Just before you hit the clouds you opened your eyes to see a weird glow coming off of your hooves. What the hell?, you thought to yourself as you hit the cloud layer, closing your eyes to make sure you didn't get anything in them, and after you opened your eyes again the glow was gone. Although you would have loved to think about what it was more, you had more pressing matters to attend to. Like the fact that you were now going straight down and were probably minutes away from hitting the ground.
WHACK
The air was knocked out of you as something, or somepony, caught you. You looked at your saviour, only to see that it was none other than Rainbow Dash.
"Thanks!" you shouted in an attempt to be heard over the wind. Either she didn't hear you, or she didn't care, as she didn't say anything back as she continued to fly with you in her legs. You quickly looked around to try and figure out where you being taken when you saw a large tree right ahead of you. From what you had heard about Ponyville, you could make a fairly educated guess that that tree was the town library. As you got closer you noticed that Rainbow was slowing down, which meant this was her destination all along.
"What the hay were you doing up there in a storm?!" Rainbow shouted as she dropped you on the ground.
"I fell asleep on a cloud, and I woke up when the storm started" you said as you got to your hooves, shaking your head to get some dirt out of your mane.
"Then you are damned lucky to be alive" Rainbow said as she knocked on the door. You quickly looked over your body, checking for burns, cuts, or bruises. Thankfully you were unharmed, except for the amount of mud that was stuck in your coat and mane. You were trying to get some of the mud out when you you stopped feeling the rain hitting your back. You looked around and saw a purple Unicorn standing in the doorway, levitating an umbrella over you.
"You going to come in?" the Unicorn asked, motioning her head towards the inside of the tree.
"Oh, uh, sure" you quickly trotted inside, doing your best to stop yourself from shaking dry, "Thanks for letting me in"
"No problem, Rainbow said she saw you falling from the sky" the Unicorn said, "Oh, and I'm Twilight Sparkle by the way"
"Oh, uh, hi" you said sheepishly, now afraid that you might have made a fool of yourself in front of the Element of Magic, and Celestia's personal student. Twilight gave you a worried look, but was distracted when a door was opened from further inside the library.
"Hey Rainbow, hey, uh, whoever you are..." a little purple dragon said as he walked towards another door. He obviously didn't care that there was a new Pegasus in the library, but Twilight did.
"Spike!" Twilight said as she walked towards him, "Show him towards the shower"
"But, Twilight, it's lunchtime!" Spike whined.
"It's fine, I'll just head back outside and shake off" you said, not wanting to cause a scene. Twilight didn't have time to object as you were already outside by the time she turned around. You went out in the clearing outside the library, lowered down, and shook off, sending mud flying in all directions. After you deemed yourself sufficiently clean you turned back towards the library, only to see Rainbow and Twilight staring at you with confused looks on their faces.
"I had no idea you were that muddy" Rainbow said as she looked at the copious amounts of mud that had been tossed around.
"That's one of the joys of being chocolate coloured" you said sarcastically as you walked back into the library. You looked around and saw a towel laying on the floor, so you picked it up and dried yourself off with it.
"So, you're sure you're not still muddy" Twilight said while looking you over, probably looking for any sign of mud that was still stuck to your body.
"Yes, I'm sure, do you see any mud on me?" you said confidently as you used your wings to help you stand on your hind legs.
"Well actually you do have a bit of mud right here" Twilight said as she moved towards you, taking the towel out of your hoof, and began to levitate it close to your...
"Wait, I can get that!" you shouted, your face turning bright red. Twilight jumped back slightly stunned, but she quickly turned red as she realized where she was putting the towel. Rainbow burst into laughter behind her as the two of you awkwardly stood there, not sure of what to say or do next. A few minutes later Rainbow suddenly stopped laughing, and quickly got to her hooves.
"Wait, how did you get out of the storm?" Rainbow said, causing both you and Twilight to look at her in confusion.
"What?" you asked, unsure of what she meant.
"Well, you said you were sleeping in a cloud when the storm started, but how did you get out without getting electrocuted?"
"I have no idea, all I know is that the second time I made a hole in the clouds there was this weird glow around my hooves" you said, looking at one of your forelegs with a look of confusion on your face.
"Can you describe it?" Twilight asked, a quill and paper now floating in front of her.
"Well..." you began, ready to explain everything to Twilight and Rainbow.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"...and then Rainbow caught me and brought me here" you finished, after what seemed like an hour of explaining, with Twilight asking plenty of questions throughout your explanation.
"I've never heard of anything like this happening before" Twilight said quietly to herself, "I must tell Princess Celestia!"
"Do you really have to?" you asked, hoping that she wasn't being serious about it.
"Yes, this is something new and interesting, the Princess must know" Twilight said as she rolled up her paper, "She might even know what caused it. SPIKE!". After a few seconds the purple dragon came out of one of the other rooms and ran over to Twilight.
"What is it?" Spike asked, hoping to get it over and done with so he could go back to bed.
"I need you send this letter to Celestia right away!" Twilight ordered as she passed the letter to Spike, who quickly burped fire and caused the letter to disappear. You would be a bit more confused if you hadn't seen it happen before when you got in trouble at school. You remember the principal getting a small red dragon to send a letter to your father the same way. As you began to relive the memory of your first suspension you heard Spike burp and you saw another paper appear, which was quickly picked up by Twilight.
"So, what's it say?" you asked as Twilight's eyes narrowed.
"She says it could be possible that under extreme stress you're able to channel magic similar to a Unicorn" Twilight said, while looking very uncertain.
"But isn't that impossible?" Rainbow asked.
"It's not impossible, but it's highly improbable" Twilight said, sounding like a school teacher who was answering a student.
"But how? I thought only Unicorns can use magic" Rainbow said, now rubbing her head as if it would help it make sense.
"That's not true, in fact Pegasi use magic all the time when they fly and manipulate the weather" you said, causing both Twilight and Rainbow to look at you in surprise.
"How did you know that?" Rainbow asked slowly.
"What, just because I'm a Pegasus that means I can't know about magic?" you said in a sarcastic tone, "I paid attention to the magic lessons in school"
"Well, he is right, Pegasi can use magic, but it's usually innate, but some Pegasi have been known to exhibit some magical ability in the past" Twilight said as she pulled a book off one of the shelves. You quickly glanced at the cover, Great Pegasi in History, you chuckled slightly at the simplicity of the title before it opened due to Twilight's magic.
"See, if you look right here..." Twilight said as she pointed to a picture of an older looking Pegasi with a beard, "Sir Fleet Foot was one of Starswirl the Bearded's personal assistants, and was capable of perform teleportation and levitation spells with great concentration"
"Wow, I never knew how interesting history was" Rainbow said sarcastically while rolling her eyes.
"Whatever, what this means is that you might be able to do the same thing with practice" Twilight said enthusiastically.
"Oh great, now I can do magic" you said while throwing your head into your hooves, "Why can't I just live like an Earth pony?!"
"You want to be an Earth pony?" Twilight asked.
"Yeah, I always felt like I have a better connection to the land then I do to the sky, it's why I came to Ponyville" you said, your tone becoming a sad one as you remembered the previous day's events.
"What's wrong?" Twilight asked as she put a hoof on your shoulder.
"Well, I came here to work on the apple farm, but they turned me away just because I was a Pegasus" you said glumly.
"Oh, well, uh..." Rainbow said, unable to think of anything to say that would comfort you.
"What if we helped prove to them that you could work on the farm?" Twilight said eagerly.
"Would that work?" you asked, hoping she would say yes.
"Possibly, I know that it would change their outlook if they saw how hard of a worker you are" Twilight said as she put the book on Pegasi away.
"Well, looks like the rain stopped," Rainbow said with her face pressed against a window, "We might as well get started now!"
"I really don't think this is going to work" you said as you were pushed out of the library by Twilight's magic.
"Don't worry, I know exactly where we can start!" Twilight said as she pulled Rainbow close to her, whispering something into her ear. When Rainbow was let go she flew off towards the outskirts of town at a breakneck speed, and Twilight came up next to you.
"So what's your plan?" you asked while you watched Rainbow disappear over the horizon.
"First, we'll prove that you work well with animals" Twilight said as she started walking in the same direction you saw Rainbow fly in. Looks like I have no choice but to do this, you thought to yourself as you looked towards the center of the town, managing to catch a glimpse of Applejack back behind her apple stall, happily handing out apples to her paying customers. You tore your eyes off her, knowing that focusing on it would only make you become severely depressed, and that would only manage to hurt your chances of working at the farm even more.
