A Meeting
Author's Notes:
This story will be in Rainbow’s POV in first person. I won’t write, “Rainbow POV” on the top of each chapter. Unless I decided to put another character in, you can assume it’s Rainbow.
Also, this takes place before season 7’s finale, which means that Starlight will play a part but the pillars won’t.
Spitfire was crazy. She wanted me to do a Rainboom at both of the shows the Wonderbolts would be performing in. My wings would be tired enough with one Rainboom, never mind two. Nonetheless, no pony wanted to argue with Spitfire unless they wanted to be kicked off. Hopefully, one of the shows would be in the morning so I could take the whole afternoon to rest. My wings were sore enough this night from the massive amount of training.
I stumbled into my house before laying down for a few seconds. I looked at the clock and saw the hour hand pointing to the number, five. Was it that late already? I refilled the bowl of water for Tank, who looked and blinked slowly at me. Then, I sat down away on my bed. I might as well rest my wings and take a short nap. Lightning Dust, the new captain of Ponyville Weather, had made it sunny everyday. Yes, I gave Lightning the job once I had the official title as a Wonderbolt since I couldn’t maintain both jobs at once. Being a Wonderbolt got ponies to respect me and not only that, but I actually got paid for it. Much more than being the captain of the weather, either way.
Sometimes, I wondered if that was a bad idea since Applejack’s farm was usually running out of water. Yesterday, I had watered the trees for her without Lightning Dust’s approval, but she didn’t dare cross me again. Not since the Wonderbolts Academy actually. I began to doze off on my soft bed that was made by the fluffiest clouds that one could ever hope for. These clouds couldn’t rain for some reason' which was why they made the perfect bed. Suddenly, a huge motion startled me awake. Then, I realized that I was no longer in my bed.
Never mind the bed, why was I in space? I looked around before deciding to step forwards. No pony was here but I saw panels of myself as a filly. I continued walking to see myself perform the legendary Rainboom. I shuffled my wings, remembering that I would need to perform Rainbooms the next day. That wasn’t my main concern though. Where was the way out, or was I just dreaming?
I called out, “Princess Luna?” I stood there for a few minutes, waiting for some sort of reply before deciding that this wasn’t a dream. If it was, Princess Luna would’ve came.
A voice startled me, “Rainbow Dash? How did you come up here?” I turned around to see the Princess of the Night.
I sighed in relief, “It’s just a dream.”
The princess replied, “I assure you that this is not a dream. I come here once in a while to see my past. Unfortunately, I don’t see much since I became an alicorn rather early.” My head spun. Alicorn? Memories?
Princess Luna continued, “How did you come up here? Surely my sister didn’t make a challenge and send you up here, or she would’ve told me about you.”
I replied, “I’m not sure.”
Princess Luna, “What a coincidence. I’m here too. Fate and destiny are playing with us, aren’t they.”
“Princess, do you mind explaining about what’s happening?”
“I’ll talk to you in the normal world Rainbow. Just walk around and guide yourself across your memories. Eventually, you’ll reach the end and go back to the normal world. I shall be making my exit now.” Dazed, I watched as Princess Luna’s horn lit up and she disappeared in a flash. That left me alone. Deciding to do what she said, I began to trot through the memory lane, remembering each thing as if I meant to keep them close to heart. I finally reached the end after some time. I saw myself staring at the image before a bright light surrounded me and I felt the same sensation as when I hadn’t disappeared before. I closed my eyes to wait for the ride to be over.
When I finally felt my head stop spinning, I opened my eyes to find myself on the bed, with Tank missing. I flapped my wings, looking for him, before realizing that my wings felt different, as if they were carrying a lighter load. I eventually found Tank in the bathroom, head looking around.
I picked him up, “Hey Tank, what’re doing here? You should be in my bedroom, resting. I know how much you like to sleep.” I barely looked at anything but Tank while walking out before closing the lights. I flew and set Tank onto the bed before a knock on the door startled me.
I sighed in anger, and I thought, ‘Can’t this pony get a moment’s rest?’ I went to the front door seeing a package on my front steps. The delivery pony was nowhere in sight. That was a relief. That pony was delivering packs of Daring Do books last month and was probably tired to my signature, or as I like to call it, autograph without the words. I took the package in with my wings before closing and locking the door. Eager to see what was inside, I tore the wrapping and opened it. Enclosed was a letter with Twilight’s horn writing.
Dear Rainbow Dash,
I asked the delivery pony to deliver this to you as soon as he finished delivering the other packages. Considering I’m the princess, you should receive this by 6 in the night. Princess Luna says that she wants us to go to Canterlot as fast as possibles. I will wait in the palace, but if you’re not there by 6, you’re going to have to fly there since the rest of us can’t get there as fast.
-Twilight Sparkle
I glanced at the clock and saw that the hour hand was now on the number 7. I guessed that going through my memories took longer than it should’ve. Looks like I’m going to have to fly to Canterlot inside of riding the train. I knew that most of the Wonderbolts lived in Canterlot so if I can’t make the show, they’ll know from the princesses. I flapped my wings before taking off quickly.
After a few minutes, I accidentally made a Sonic Rainboom without really trying. It just seemed like my wing power tripled or something similar to that. Maybe it’s just from training too hard and increasing my stamina. I, as usual, went through an open window.
Twilight looked up from her book, “Good. Rainbow is finally here-WAIT, WHY IN EQUESTRIA ARE YOU WEARING A FAKE HORN!”
Confusion
I blinked, “Are you talking to me Twilight?”
Twilight flapped her wings to have the same altitude as Rainbow, “Yes! I am talking to you. You do know that impersonating an alicorn or a princess is treason right?”
I wondered how this had anything to do with anything she was talking about, “Yes, of course I know. Every pony knows that.”
Twilight said, “I should think so! Now, let me restate my words. WHY ARE YOU WEARING A HORN ON YOUR HEAD IN FRONT OF ALL OF THE PRINCESSES!” I looked down to see my friends, and the other three princesses looking at us with wonder, each with a different expression on their face. Princess Luna looked at me thoughtfully, Princess Celestia looked at me as if deciding whether to arrest me or not, and Princess Cadence was awestruck. Probably ‘cause I’m so awesome! Anyways, I mentally told myself, get back to reality.
Then, I realized that I had no idea what she was talking about, “Twilight? What are you talking about?” I was really confused and a little worried for Twilight’s mental health. She wasn’t cool and all, but did books finally mess up her brain? Probably not, but you would never know with Twi.
Rarity finally said, “Darling, have you looked into the mirror since you’ve gotten here?” What was there to see though? I mean, I barely brush my hair, never mind looking into the mirror and becoming addicted like Rarity here. The Princesses exchanged a look before Twilight floated a mirror so I could see my reflection. I was about the same size as before but I understood why my wings felt much different. They were more like Twilight’s now, with flexible wings that were easy to fight against wind resistance. B-but wing changes happen slowly! This shouldn’t be happening. Actually, I never saw wings like this, not even on my parents. Only the princesses. Okay, so Princess Luna granted me a better pair of wings. I should probably thank her later.
I was so distracted about my wings that I barely saw the rest of my reflection so, I decided to see just about how messy my mane was. Usually, Rarity didn’t comment subtlety about my mane, and never said anything in front of the Princesses before praises. I looked at a mirror to see a horn on the top of my head.
I chuckled, “Very funny Twilight. That fake image whatever do you want to call it looks really real, but there’s no way in Equestria that I have one. That was to get me back for the chocolate pudding prank, wasn’t it?” It had been a week since I covered her whole house, including her bathroom and her bed, with chocolate pudding. Twilight had been so engrossed with her reading, that she didn’t notice until she sat down.
Twilight flew around, “It’s called an illusion spell, Rainbow and I pinky promise that this isn’t an illusion.” She did the movements exactly, although flinching a bit when’s she almost stuck a hoof into her eye. Since Pinkie wasn’t reacting, I decided to believe Twilight. I blinked at my reflection before using a hoof to touch my forehead, and felt a thing on my head immediately, which I guessed was my horn. Twilight lowered the mirror after a few minutes, when I was staring at my own reflection. She flew down onto her spot and I followed in shock.
Princess Celestia said, “How did Rainbow manage to achieve Enlightment? Last time, it was my purposeful challenge for Twilight but this time, I didn’t lift a hoof to help. Luna? Cadence? Twilight? Did you guys help her?”
Princess Luna shook her head, “I assure you that I did not, although I found her in the enlightment space place, calling my name and hoping that it was a dream. Sister, you do know that we are not allow to help any pony become an alicorn since the alicorn rules states it. You are lucky to not lose your wings and become an unicorn when you helped Twilight, who was just going to reach it, either way.”
Twilight turned to Princess Celestia, “You did that for me?”
Princess Celestia nodded, “Yes, because I thought that you deserved it. Back to the topic now, Rainbow, what did you do to acheive it.”
I thought for a moment before saying, “Training with the Wonderbolts. Spitfire wanted me to do two Rainbooms and forced me to do three yesterday. I remembered being pushed to my maximum but I didn’t complain about it.” The Princesses said nothing before Princess Luna decided to speak up,
“The space must’ve decided that Rainbow was to be accepted and that’s she was fated to be a princess. She’ll be good at it and will find a purpose, just like Twilight and Candence have done.”
Princess Celestia nodded, “I agree. It must’ve had its reasons to make Rainbow an alicorn without us asking. Rainbow, you are going to have a coronation and officially become a princess.”
Being sick of ignored throughout the conversation, I said, “The space must’ve made a mistake. I didn’t do anything.”
“Yet the portal still judged you and worthy of an alicorn. Rarity, Pinkie, Applejack, and Fluttershy, please go back to your rooms in your palace that you had been shown earlier. The other princesses and I need to talk to Princess Rainbow.” Princess Rainbow? That was way too girly for me. Awesome Rainbow? Fine. Captain Rainbow Dash of the Wonderbolts? It sounded better. Princess Rainbow. Bleh. I watched as the others left, chatting quietly amongst themselves as they walked to their room.
Princess Celestia turned to me, “You are officially one of us.”
I was confused, again, “Us?”
“A princess. Which means that we are your unofficial sisters. That means I finally don’t need to hide my habits and be royal all the time. That goes the same for all the others. Luna, would you mind starting to make a throne for a Rainbow? I think that your decoration style goes better for Rainbow than mine.”
I begged, “Nothing girly Princess!” Luna smirked as she walked out. I had never seen Princess Luna smirk so I had no idea what that meant. I don’t think the others even saw Princess Luna smirk.
Princess Celestia chuckled, “You are a princess so you don’t need to call us ‘Princess’. As I said, we are informal in private since we don’t want any bad images if we do it in public.”
Twilight looked at me, “The number one thing is to never help another pony become an alicorn since space will do the worst thing that you fear. For example, they might take away the horn and your wings.” I gulped, silently vowing to never help a pony become an alicorn.
Princess Cadence looked at the clock, “It’s midnight and Shining is probably having trouble with Flurry. I better go. See you next time!” She teleported away to Celestia knows where.
Princess Celestia-no just Celestia said, “Twilight, I’m going to trust that the magic lessons and princess stuff are going to be taught by you. I should probably retire and get some rest.” That left Twilight and I looking at the spot she disappeared from.
Twilight yawned, “Since I am afraid that you probably don’t have control over your magic, you’re magic could become haywire when feeling any strong emotions. You’re sleeping at a different room than the other girls. We are going to sleep in sleeping bags in my rooms. Also, I’m going to teleport us so no pony else could see us.” Twilight touched me and I felt the weird sensation of turning my stomach in the washing machine a several dozen times. When we finally got there, I collapsed on the sleeping bag Twilight had made appear. I closed my eyes and slept easily, being exhausted for the day.
I woke up to the knock of a door before pushing Twilight awake. One sound of the situation got Twilight to push me in the bathroom and lock the door. I put my ear to the door to hear about what was going on. I heard the other door click open.
Twilight said politely, “Captain Spitfire.”
Spitfire probably bowed, “Princess Twilight Sparkle.”
“Do you mind telling me why you’re here?”
“I heard that Rainbow Dash is here. I need to talk to her about today’s show.”
“I’m sorry but she is currently using the bathroom and Princess Celestia told me to tell you to talk to her, if I see her.”
“Yes, Princess Twilight.” I heard the door close and the bathroom door unlock. I walked outside and Twilight nodded at me, confirming that Spitfire was gone.
Twilight sighed, “Luna says that you’re throne is done. I think that it’s a really bad style but you’re going to see it today. Anyways, I have two plates of food here, to not be seen by others while Celestia writes her speech.”
I picked up the plate of food, “Thanks Twilight.” I began to eat the food and it was really good. Like really really good. Much better than restaurants and other places. The servants probably thought that this was for Princess Twilight since they weren’t informed of my existence. Twilight teleported the empty dishes away, probably into the kitchen sink or something.
She opened up a drawer, “We are going to practice levitation, which is also known as telekinesis.” I stared of her, uncertain of either of the words she used.
Twilight took out a spoon and set it down on the floor before seeing my blank expression, “You know, to lift things up.” Oh, so the floaty thingy.”
Twilight continued, “When I was younger, I levitated objects by practicing to have the desire to lift it. If I want to lift the object, you think of it and it’ll levitate to you, hopefully. All unicorns, or alicorns in some cases, have different ways of it. For me, I think of logic. For Starlight, she concentrated on her emotions. Celestia concentrates on the sun and Luna with the moon. Candence is something with love. Maybe yours is something with a Sonic Rainboom?”
I rolled my eyes, “I don’t want to do a Sonic Rainboom just for myself to perform a spell. I mean, I’m awesome but that could get tiring.”
Twilight shook her head, “I mean feeling the emotions behind it. Why don’t you try?” I stared at the object, willing it to lift. I closed my eyes in stubbornness and even flew up, as if it would go with me. I peeked and saw that the spoon wasn’t still on the ground. I landed easily and thought about the excitement of a Sonic Rainboom. Instead of the spoon lifting up, I was off the ground, flying without thinking about it.
I shook my head, “It’s not working.”
“Think of the object then.”
I thought, ‘Spoon lift. Lift spoon. Spoon spoon float. Floaty levitate tele-whatever the name is spoon. Get up and give me twenty pushups for being lazy. Get up you fool!’ So what if my thoughts were a little different. Twilight had just said something about every unicorn having different things for magic.
I sighed, “I don’t think that way is mine.”
Twilight asked, “How do you fly?”
I blinked, “Twilight, you know how to fly. You unfurl your wings and you flap them.”
“I meant how do you command them to fly?”
“With my brain?” I had absolutely no idea where she was going for.
Twilight hoof palmed, “With your will.” I was close enough.
She ordered, “Now do that to the spoon.” I stared at it. I wanted it to get up and do something to impress Twilight and to move on from this spoon, which was weirdly decorated. The spoon refused to move at all.
Somepony knocked on the door, “It’s me, Luna.” Twilight unlocked the door and Luna entered quickly before closing it.
Luna sighed, “My sister has finally finished planning your coronation. Change into any suitable dress and let’s go.”
I blinked, “I don’t own dresses besides the one from years ago.”
“WHAT! The coronation starts is 10 minutes.”
Author's Notes:
My goal is 2000+ words per chapter (besides the first when I was rushing a bit to publish), so updates probably wouldn’t be daily.
Coronation
I thought for a moment, doing my best to stay calm, “What about I fly back and get a crown? That way, I wouldn’t be underdressed or overdressed.”
Luna shook her head, “No, Rainbow Dash. We already have a crown for you. Let me see if any of the dress makers have a dress for you. Follow me, Rainbow and Twilight.” She galloped out, with me following her and Twilight panting to catch up. Rarity opened the door and waved to the princesses. Wait, I technically classify in the group so I suppose that she was also waving at me.
I ran in, “Rarity, we have an emergency. I need a dress for the coronation.”
Rarity chuckled, “Darling, I made one for you last night as a backup, just in case you don’t have one.” Rarity levitated it on me and dragged me into the bathroom, tightening, grabbing, and doing all sorts of things. The one thing that I absolutely refused was makeup. The dress was already bad enough for me. I hugged her before Rarity threw a dress on herself and put on her makeup.
I asked, “Where are the others?”
She replied, “Pinkie Pie wanted to help with the party decorations, Applejack made some of the food, and Fluttershy is currently enjoying the party. I waited for you since I knew that you didn’t bring a dress.”
I smiled, “Thanks Rarity. I should probably go know.”
“Before you do, look at yourself in the mirror.” I glanced up and saw that my hooves are wearing golden shoes. With every movement, my dress shimmered as if it was on fire, which was something I liked, and my mane wasn’t too messy and had a small mane tie. All in all, I was shocked that Rarity managed to actually make this in the night.
Rarity smiled, “One of my best works, isn’t it?”
I nodded, “I actually like this dress. I should probably go now. I don’t want to be late on my coronation and give everypony a flashback for when Princess Celestia didn’t appear and Nightmare Moon came out a minute later.” Rarity nodded and beckoned me to go.
Princess Luna stared, “This dress is magnificent.”
Twilight nodded, “Probably one of Rarity’s best works. I have to admit Rainbow, this dress suits you.”
Princess Luna said, “Twilight and I will sit on our thrones. When the doors open, walk on the red carpet and wait for my sister to speak. The rest should come naturally. When you walk across, open your wings so that everypony will know who you are.” Then, she teleported and Twilight followed her, making me blink my eyes. I flew to the outside of the throne room and nodded to the guards who just closed the doors, making them jump back before finally closing the doors. Even from here, I could hear Pinkie Pie squeal and laugh. That wasn’t a surprise. After a few seconds, I heard a few trumpets blare our music. I wasn’t sure what type of music it was since I almost never listened to music, besides the time I was choosing the music for the Young Flyers Competition.
I heard Celestia say, “Thank you for coming to this coronation. It is a great pleasure to announce that another pony has achieved Enlightment.” I zoned out some of her speech, looking at the doors nervously. My gut twisted and I took a deep breath to hopefully calm my nerves.
I looked at the doors again and I heard, “Please welcome...” The doors opened and I unfurled my wings.
Celestia shouted, “Rainbow Dash!” I walked to the red carpet in tune to the music. The crowd whispered and gasped in shock, but I was making sure that I wouldn’t accidentally step onto the crowd that was gathered to see me. I finally looked away from Celestia and looked at my throne that was next to Cadence. It was cool, which I had to admit. It had my cutie mark, and blue coloring. As the designs on the edges, there were tiny lightning bolts that flashed and was bold. At least it wasn’t too fancy, unlike Celestia’s throne which was blaring in the colors of the sunrise along with her sun cutie mark. I stood at the front of the red carpet, waiting.
Celestia walked to me and motioned me to turn around. I obeyed that command and instead of calming my nerves, I saw every single pony in that crowd staring. Well, besides Pinkie, who was stuffing her mouth in the hot pepper cupcakes.
The princess smiled, “Welcome Princess Rainbow Dash to the royal thrones.” All the ponies, including Pinkie who had stopped eating cupcakes for a few seconds, stomped their hooves loudly. The other princesses stood from their thrones and walked to me, showing their support for the throne.
Celestia places a crown on my head that was like all their crowns, but with my cutie mark on it. Each movement looked like there were lightning dancing on it. At least it wasn’t decorated in hearts or small magic sparkles. It was pretty cool, actually.
Twilight said in her royal voice, “The coronation will begin now.” I walked with the others princesses to the party room. The other ponies followed after us in a few seconds. There weren’t any thrones in the party room. If there were, it would defeat the purpose of the party room and the throne room. We stood there in a line, with myself by Twilight and Luna’s side.
The ponies rushed into the throne room and they all bowed before some of them ate, danced, and just hung out. Most of them were still taking glances at me though. Some of them came up to me.
One of the ponies said, “It is an honor to meet you, Princess Rainbow.” They shook my hoof before backing away and enjoying the party. I walked with Twioight to our group of friends.
Rarity smiled at me, “Nice crown, Rainbow.”
I nodded, “Thanks.”
Pinkie smiled, “I’m going to throw you another party in Ponyville! Princess Rainbow, what do you want as your game? Where do you want it?”
I shook my head, “Pinkie, I know that you are going to throw me one of your best parties. I completely trust you with it.”
Fluttershy whispered, “Hi Rain-I mean Princess."
I sighed, “Just call me Rainbow. I might have an extra horn, but that doesn’t meant that I’m going to be a royal snob with you. Where’s AJ?” Rarity pointed somewhere and I followed her hoof. Applejack was selling pies for the Apple family. I walked over and every pony there bowed to me.
Applejack took her hat off, “You look like an alicorn to me Rainbow. I mean Princess.”
I rolled my eyes, “Applejack, you’re one of my best friends. Forget about the Princess part and just call me Rainbow.”
She nodded, “Glad you haven’t changed. Do you want some of the goods?”
I nodded in reply, “Sure, I think I want some apple cider-wait. I didn’t bring bits. I can just drink some when I have the money.”
Applejack gave me a bottle, “Ah shucks Rainbow. Just take it.”
I sighed, “Fine, but expect me to pay back when we finally get back to Ponyville, or whenever I have the time.” Applejack nodded as I used my wing to take the apple cider and I drank it. Fresh and delicious as always. After I left, I heard the ponies asking for apple cider, the drink I took, too. After that, my friends and I talked for the rest of the night and the coronation was finally over. I went to my room and Twilight popped there after a few minutes. I took off the dress and my crown before putting it in another empty drawer before Luna entered.
Luna said, “Your room is complete, Rainbow. Follow me.” I smiled at Twilight before taking out my dress and crown to follow Luna to the room across the hall. She left to do her royal dream walking duties. I closed the door before noticing that it looked like my room back in Cloudsdale. I opened the large walk in closet to see one set of pajamas, some silver shoes, and a blue dress. I put the dress in one of the hangers and put my gold shoes next to the silver ones. Then, I decided to put my crown on my drawer, to remind myself to wear it.
I went to the large bathroom and took a long, hot shower before putting on the cozy pajamas and falling asleep on the cloud bed. I didn’t dream at all that night.
I woke up early, and mentally told myself to get ready for training before realizing that I was a princess. I sighed before pondering whether or not to put on the crown. Knowing that I would have to be in the town hall to hear ponies whine, which was necessary for a princess who was in Canterlot (hopefully I won’t need to do it in Ponyville), so I slipped on the blue dress. I wore my crown before somepony knocked on the door. Without thinking, my magic opened the door and I blinked in surprise. My magic flowed in a rainbow color, which I never saw for another pony.
The pony bowed, “Princess Rainbow, I have your belongings from Cloudsdale. I assured you that we have not looked at anything in any books and have not thrown anything away. Princess Twilight wishes you to join you for breakfast.”
I gulped before managing a smile, “Thanks. What’s your name?”
“My name is Spirit Runner, Princess.”
I wondered what to say next before saying, “Well, thanks for my belongings. You can go, unless you have something else to tell me about.”
“I wanted to mention that I am your personal assistant and one of the guards you command. Every princess has three personal guards. The other two are Fire Bright and Apple Watch. I shall go now, Princess Rainbow.” The Pegasus backed out of the door. I told my horn to close the door and it did. It seemed like logic, desire, and whatever else Twilight said didn’t matter. All I had to do was demand it to do something. Easy as pie, as Pinkie would say. I looked at myself in the mirror one last time, knowing that my hair had returned to normal already.
I thought, ‘Open the door.’ My rainbow aura surrounded the door knob and it smashed open, almost taking the doors off of it’s hinges. I winced a little, knowing that I might need to be a little more specific next time and walked out. Then, I closed the door with my mouth and left. I made it to the breakfast table with the other princesses without too much problem. The princesses were wearing fancy clothes, laughing before turning to me.
Celestia blinked, “What are you wearing?”
I glanced down, “A dress.”
“That’s not a dress, that’s something a pony in poverty would use. That’s for another discussion though. Anyways, Twilight? What were you saying again?”
Twilight levitated my breakfast of smiley pancakes to me while saying, “I was talking about how Rainbow can’t do magic.” The others snorted. Meanwhile, I lost my appetite as they laughed.
Luna saw my look and stopped, “I’m sorry Rainbow Dash but all of us are former unicorns. I can’t think about how any alicorn can’t do magic.”
I gritted my teeth and stood up, “How’s this then?”
I commanded my horn through my thoughts, ‘Levitate Twilight and make her dance.’ Twilight was suddenly surrounded by my magic and began to do weird and jerky movements.
Twilight shouted, “What? How? Stop!”
I flew up to meet her, “How’s this not doing magic?”
“But no unicorn can do magic without discovering the trigger. When did you discover it? You were failing at magic yesterday the whole time!”
“That’s none of your business.”
Celestia flew up, “Rainbow, that’s enough. Twilight, it was mean to talk behind your friend’s back. Apologize.”
Twilight sighed, “I’m sorry Rainbow. It just spiraled out of control when Celestia asked me about your magic studies.”
I narrowed my eyes before lying, “Apology accepted.”
I thought, ‘Release Twilight.’ Twilight landed back onto her seat once my magic had let her go. Celestia and I flew back to our seats. I began to use my mouth to eat the food, while the others used their magic.
Twilight sighed, “Again Rainbow. I’m really sorry about the fact that I teased you. It just happens once in a while. Besides, don’t we all tease Applejack and Rarity at times?” I thought about her words before deciding to actually forgive her for that small action.
“I told you, I accept your apology.”
“We will continue to practice your mag-“
Celestia interrupted, “Actually, Twilight. I will be explaining to Rainbow about being a princess and guide her. Since she could open doors without using her mouth, she’ll be fine. You have your own duties to take care of.”
Twilight sighed, “Okay Celestia. Well, I’ll excuse myself now.” She walked out.
Celestia turned to me, “Well, I suppose that we better get started too.”
Royal Duties
I followed Celestia into the throne room. She beckoned me to sit on my throne and I sat on the throne. It wasn’t actually as uncomfortable as it looked. I could almost think that I could sit still on it for more than 10 minutes.
Celestia looked at me, “Usually, there are a two least 2 princesses in the town hall but if none of the princesses are available, then I am the one who usually does it by myself. Don’t worry, it only takes 2 hours, with a 15 minute break between it. It’s easier tonight understand when you’re actually experiencing it. It should be starting about now. Don’t worrying, there won’t be any questions asked about you unless you allow it.” I was a little relieved at the last part of her sentence although the relief vanished as soon as the throne doors opened, sending hundreds of ponies in it.
Celestia said, “Welcome to another town meeting. Without further ado, I will take one of the papers and read off of it. As most of you know, that pony will say what the problem is.”
She used her magic to take out of of the papers, “Cloud Chaser.” I recongnized the Pegasus’ name since he was one of the ponies on my team for clearing the weather.
The stallion went before the thrones and bowed, “Princess Celestia and Princess Rainbow, as most of you know, Ponyville’s weather team also makes sure that the weather in the Everfree stays where it is and doesn’t affect other parts. When also make sure that the forest doesn’t catch on fire or flood, which would also affect Ponyville. Either way, the weather team is lacking Pegasi that are trained to bust clouds that they do not control. Even if we do train ponies in it, then Ponyville’s weather part would be really weak and the weather wouldn’t be a storm controlled.”
Celestia replied, “I’m sorry but I can’t do anything to help business in the weather. Just ask other cities to help or something similar. Next.” What? Asking other cities would be a disaster, and would degrade Ponyville’s standings. Also, if Pegasi were missing to help Ponyville from other cities, then their weather would also be behind. Never mind pay and other things that I tend to not think about.
I raised a hoof, “Wait, as the Princess, I also have a suggestion, if you don’t mind.” Cloud Chaser looked at me with hope.
I continued, “I think that there should be a program to train ponies in both styles. For example, the Pegasi could take care of the weather in the morning and in the afternoon, they could clear the Everfree before going back to Ponyville and clearing the weather. Also, there should be groups that specialize in each part and make sure that everything is in order while helping as a backup.”
Celestia shook her mane, “I’m sorry Princess Rainbow but it would take too long and it would need an immediate solution. I would say to ignore the problem and to do your best. As I said before, ask other ponies in other cities for help if needed.” Celestia didn’t have a clue about how much work that would be, if cities nearby even had an extra pony as backup.
She called out another name, “Inky Rose.” Cloud Chaser trotted to his seat and another pony went up.
Inky bowed, “I am a minor fashionista but lately, there aren’t enough fabric in my store to make perfect dresses.” Celestia looked at me, offering me a chance to try and to solve the princess. She gave me a look that said that she would help if needed.
I said, not knowing too much about fabric, “You can try to either make the fabric yourself, or go to another store to buy some of their fabric.”
Inky said in her usual monotone, “You are right Princess. I didn’t think of that. I shall do that immediately.” She trotted back to her seat and sat down. That was a really easy question and I was actually rather surprised that she never thought about it. I waited for Celestia to call out the next name. After a few seconds, it seemed like she was waiting for me. I guessed that we were going to take turns since I needed to take some responsibility. That shouldn’t be harder than busting clouds.
Celestia mouthed to me, “Use your magic to get one of the papers. It’s only proper if we take turns. Next time, I will do it and after that, you will and we will continue that pattern.” I gulped when knowing that I would need to use my unpracticed magic in front of everypony.
I concentrated, ‘Grab the paper of the top right corner and put it on my hoof.’ The paper, that I was staring at intensely, levitated. It dropped in front of me. Then I remembered that Celestia read it while levitating it and everypony probably expected me to do the same.
I thought, ‘Levitate it in front of me and let it stay there until I tell you to.’ It levitated and it opened.
I read, “Fancy Pants.”
A pony stepped forwards, “I have noticed that restaurants in Canterlot has been closing and I am having trouble in finding one that I like.”
Celestia said, “I would suggest the restaurants, Zippy and Reland, Moonshine, or Dusk. How about you, Princess Rainbow?”
I have actually never eaten in Canterlot before, save for a small drink, “I am rather new to Canterlot and I can’t decide which one is the best currently.” I saw Spirit Runner and two other ponies standing in front of me and I guessed that they were all my personal guards
I didn’t want to disappoint them so I said, “Spirit Runner, can you fly and grab the menus from the places where Princess Celestia suggested and give them to Fancy Pants? I’m sure that he would enjoy having them to decide which place to go first.” Fancy Pants smiled before returning to his seat.
Spirit Runner nodded, “Of course Princess Rainbow.” She flew off to hopefully grab the menus needed.
Celestia took the next sheet of paper, “Fluttershy.”
I saw Fluttershy slowly walking to the carpet and she whispered, “There are more and more animals coming to my house. I need more property to expand... Princesses.”
Celestia thought for a moment before saying, “I’m sorry Fluttershy but in order to expand, you need to buy property.”
Fluttershy backed off, “Of course Princess Celestia.”
Celestia stood up, “It is time for the break. Princess Cadence and Princess Twilight will do the next part of the town meeting.” Getting the hint, I followed Celestia to another room.
She turned to me, “You have some time before magic practice. Your personal guards or attendants, if you wish to call them that, will be beside you and will follow your orders. During that time, you will decide who your personal dress designer, and your overall planner will be. I need to go now.” She teleported away just as Spirit Runner, Apple Watch, and Fire Bright walked into the room. They bowed before standing next to me.
I looked at them, “You don’t need to tail me then entire day, although I would like to know who you are. Besides you, Spirit Runner.”
The earth pony nodded, “I’m Apple Watch, a distant relative of your friend, Applejack.”
The unicorn said, “I’m Fire Bright, one of Princess Celestia’s best retired students.”
I nodded, “Okay, it’s nice to meet all of you. By the way, you’re allowed to smile and speak freely, even though you guys are my guards. Do you guys know if I’m allowed to chose a designer that is not from Canterlot?”
Fire Bright thought for a moment before answering, “Yes. Also, Princess Celestia has more than one designer but I think she wants you to chose your first one today.”
I sighed, “Great. I have somepony in mind. Let’s go.” I trotted to Rarity’s room and knocked on the door.
It opened and Rarity said, “Hi Rainbow!” She didn’t say anything about the plain dress I was wearing, although I could tell that she didn’t approve of it too much.
I looked at the guards, “Apple Watch and Spirit Runner. You two could take a break and eat or something. Be back in 15 minutes. Fire Bright, it seems like you know where I could find a planner and how to do things property so I’ll need you.” Apple Watch and Spirit left the room.
I turned back to Rarity, “Anyways, Rares, as you know now, I’m a Princess. I’m supposed to have a personal designer for now and Princess Celestia said that I could chose. Since I’m sure that the others would make me dresses that are not in my style, can you be it?”
Rarity smiled and her eyes sparkled, “Yes! Twilight didn’t ask me but I would be more than willing to do it for you. Do you need any dress now?”
I thought for a moment before nodding, “Yeah, Princess Celestia said something about another dress that’s better than this plain one. You know, something to make me 20% cooler.”
Rarity levitated her measurements, “I have a few ideas but I need to measure you while I ask you a few questions. What style do you want it?”
I replied, “Something cool.” That was my only style.
“Something rash and bold? Something black but outstanding? Try to be more specific Rainbow.”
“Uhh... How about something casual just to be around? Nothing too fancy though. I probably need two dresses like that.”
“I think I’ve got all your measurements,” Rarity said, putting the tape away, “You could pick up your first dress by tonight and there is a chance that the second chance would be done a time that time. If it isn’t, it would probably be done at lunch.”
I nodded, “Thanks. I’ve got to go now. Fire Bright, show me where to get a planner.”
Fire Bright thought for a moment before saying, “Princess, it would be easier to interview ponies. I’ll show you around.”
“First, let me make one condition. This pony must be willing to travel since I might stay in Ponyville or Cloudsdale.”
“That’s actually requirement for everypony who works for the princess or if the princess wants it, the pony would have to travel.”
“I would still want the pony to be willing to stick with my awesomeness though.”
“Of course Princess. Follow me.” The unicorn began trotting and I followed her, ignoring the ponies who stopped and looked at me before bowing.
She knocked on a door, and somepony answered it and bowed, “Greetings, Princess. Hi Fire.”
Fire Bright nodded, “Hi Moondancer. The princess wonders if you are willing to fill one of the positions and if you’re willing to travel someplace else if needed.”
Moondancer nodded, “Ever since Twilight came, I always wanted to go someplace else or do something useful. I’ll do it.”
I smiled, “Great. So... we should probably go to the castle. I’ll find you a place Moondancer. You can pack and get to the castle. Fire will let you in and will take you to your room.”
“That would be great.”
“Let’s go, Fire. Since Apple and Spirit is waiting, can you teleport us there?”
Fire nodded, “That would be easy.” She touched me lightly and I felt my stomach turn again before we appeared in front of Rarity’s door.
Apple and Spirit bowed, “Princess Rainbow.”
I sighed, “Do you know if I could have a room for Moondancer?”
Fire said, “Yes. There are empty rooms that you are allowed to have ponies in. You have a personal hall for ponies currently. The room you occupy is one of the first rooms. Your designer is in the Princess Twilight hall.” I walked to my room, and saw the blue hall. I chose the room next to mine and opened it. The room was bland and white, with a small bed and a closet along with a desk and a chair.
I looked at Fire, “This will be her room. Wait by the entrance for Moondancer and guide her here. Tell her that she could paint it and decorate it in any way she wants.” Fire nodded and galloped away.
I looked at my other guards, “Apple Watch, the town hall meeting should be over. Ask Princess Twilight when I should stop by in the practicing room.” Apple Watch nodded and galloped in the opposite direction.
I turned to Spirit, “Let's go outside for a fly." I really needed to cool off from Princess stuff, which was annoying me a lot. Spirit nodded and we trotted to the Canterlot gardens, which was blooming with flowers. I took off my dress and put it on a clean bench before taking off with Spirit. I twirled and did many styles of flying. After an hour, I saw Apple Watch galloping this way and I landed with Spirit. I threw on my dress and put on my crown.
Apple Watch bowed, “Princess Rainbow, Princess Twilight informs me that you are to be there as soon as I give you this message.”
I nodded, “Thanks Apple Watch. Please check on Rarity and get any fabric or material she needs. After that, you can have a break. Spirit, you should check on Moondancer and then you could take a break. Inform Fire to wait outside my room in about an hour, when my training should be over. All of you should wait there actually.” I flapped my wings before flying as quickly as possible to Twilight’s room. I looked at the clock and smiled, I had minimized my flying time. The Wonderbolts would be really happy to see that.
Twilight looked up, “Hi Rainbow. We will practice for one hour. Then, take your planner and at least one guard to the private princess meeting area. Candence left to do her duties in the Crystal Empire. Also to check on Flurry Heart. Anyways, we will continue to work on levitation. Since you could lift me up and kind of control my movements, a spoon would be too easy. I had planned for the spoon but we could move on to the schedule for Thursday, which is two days from now. I found a really heavy boulder. Lift this one about 2 feet in the air.” She pointed to a boulder that’s was as big as Tom (reference to the second season, episode one when Discord used a boulder to manipulate Rarity).
I stared at it, ‘Lift 2 feet off the ground.’ I felt my magic surround the rock and to my surprise, it lifted. It was heavy and I could feel sweat.
“Not bad. Now, release it and face the door. Let’s see if you could lift it without looking at it.” I turned around. After I did that, I just wanted the boulder to lift off 2 feet and it did without myself concentrating too hard. I was so shocked that I released it. Then, I just wanted the boulder to lift at that height and I felt my magic doing that.
Twilight said with approval, “Good job. Now, move around while keeping the rock in the air.” I flapped my wings and lifted myself off the ground while zooming around the room. Magic was like flying, needing to concentrate on at least two things at once. I stopped in front of Twilight.
Twilight nodded, “Great. Now, do what I do with this rock.” She pulled out another boulder that was the same size as the boulder that was in the air. She lifted it without looking at it at all. She moved the rock to the left, which I did after a simple thought. She began moving the rock clockwise, which I also did. After an hour of exercises, she landed the rock on the ground gently, which I also didn’t.
Twilight looked at me, “Tomorrow, practice will be across the hall since the spells will be a little harder. I’ll meet you at the planning room, which is on the left of the dining room.” I nodded as we separated. I walked to my guards who were waiting.
I said, “Thanks for waiting for me. I’ll grab Moondancer and we could leave right after.” I knocked and entered Moondancer’s room. I blinked when I saw that the room was dark blue, with the moon on the top right corner and the stars on the ceiling. Even Luna’s room wasn’t this like the night.
Moondancer turned around and bowed immediately, “Princess Rainbow.”
I asked, “Do you have a planning sheet or two?”
“I created an entire notebook with the time on the left and what to do on the right. I’ve got you covered Princess. It should last about a month or two.”
“That is great! Now, let’s go to the planning meeting. Follow me.” She hopped out of the chair and all of us went to the room next to the dining hall. Only Celestia and Twilight were there so far. I sat down on my chair and motioned Moondancer to sit on the chair on my left, which was white. Twilight and Moondancer nodded at one another before breaking eye contact and waiting for the other princesses.
Wonderbolts
Celestia looked at me, “Can you introduce her?”
I replied calmly, “She is not invisible. Moondancer, please introduce yourself to Princess Celestia.”
Moondancer tipped her head, “Of course Princess. I am Moondancer, an unicorn that used to be a student of yours.”
“Uhh... Princess Celestia? How did you not recognize her?”
Celestia muttered, “It’s been a while now since she had earned a diploma.”
Luna cleared her throat, “Let’s get started. Apparently, there’s a school visit that wants to talk to one of the princesses for around 3 hours as a field trip.”
I asked, “How many bits do they give us?”
Twilight turned to me, “Rainbow, I know that you weren’t originally an unicorn but unicorns are rich because of transfiguration and making things appear. Bits appear in one of your rooms, one of mine, and one of every princess’s. Unfortunately, we still buy things since transfigured objects for food doesn’t taste great. “
I asked, “How about the weather and the use of Pegasus ponies?”
She rolled her eyes, “We leave them to their own devices, although we could take their jobs in a second. That’s why earth ponies usually have a higher ranking than weather ponies.” The other princesses nodded.
Luna cleared her throat again, “Either way, they want us to visit their school at around 1 in the afternoon to 3 in the afternoon tomorrow. Is anypony free at that time?” Well, I knew that I was free but I wasn’t exactly what ponies would call patient so I shook my head at Moondancer who got what I meant.
Twilight looked at a stallion I didn’t recognize, “I believe that I am free at that time but it really depends on what the school wants to talk about.”
Luna replied, “Well, they just ask questions and you answer them. That’s how most of them are, unless they are very specific in aspects.”
Twilight nodded, “I could take it then.” The stallion used his horn and wrote down something in a notebook.
Luna took another parchment out from the large bin of demands, “Okay, apparently the Wonderbolts wants to talk to 2 princesses around 3 in the afternoon tomorrow. Oh, and they specifically ask for Rainbow, if she’s free.”
I sighed, “Okay, I think I could take on the meeting.” I looked at Moondancer to see that she had written it down already. She was a fast writer, which was awesome.
Luna said, “I could do that too.”
“Don’t you sleep all day?”
“A normal pony only needs 6 hours of sleep. Why should I be any different?” I didn’t really have an answer to that question, although it did answer one of the rumors that I had heard.
“Well, that deletes a rumor I heard.” I saw one of the Shadowbolts, or her named guards, write it down.
Luna said, “The next one is the Timberwolf issue which has still not been resolved. Those ponies are really starting to annoy me. The green one with the flower on the head is annoying me the most.”
I raised an eyebrow, “You do know that Timberwolves do exist?”
“Of course I know that, Princess Rainbow, but we need to dispel the fear.”
“Dispel?”
“It’s to delete or erase.”
“Oh. When is it?”
She sighed, “It’s 8 in the morning. I can’t make it since I need to sleep.”
Celestia rolled her eyes, “I don’t want to see them again but I suppose that I could do this.”
Luna took another piece of the parchment and read, “Cloudsdale needs some help concerning the water supply and the shortage of clouds. Please speak with the mayor at 7 in the night if you have time.”
Twilight rolled her eyes, “Their problems are not ours. Besides, there aren’t actual weather spells besides your sun. The Pegasi could solve it on their own.”
I said, “I can do it.”
“B-But it is not urgent and your time could be spent somewhere else.”
“I insist.”
Luna interrupted, “Princess Rainbow, Princess Twilight is correct. They could solve it by themselves.”
I stood up, “I said that I’m going to help.”
“I suppose that I can’t stop you then. Very well, it’s a check.”
“Check?”
“Rejection and passing letters.” Moondancer used her horn to write it on the 7 pm part of her list.
Luna sighed, “Princess Rainbow, I think that’s enough for you since you still need to decide on these positions. Here’s a scroll.” She took out a scroll with magic and sent it on the table.
I nodded, “Very well, I shall be in my bedroom to rest.” I stood up, putting a thought in carrying the scroll in front of me and it instantly did, with the rainbow colored aura still surrounding it. The guards, Moondancer, and I went to my official hall.
I sighed, “Moondancer, you are free for now. Just make sure that you would alert me when you know I need to do something. Fire Bright, you can guard my room specifically and the rest of you should... be outside.”
Apple Watch asked, “You mean patrolling, Princess?”
I blinked, “Uh... Sure, that’s what I mean. Anyways, don’t disturb me unless you need to. I almost forgot, Apple Watch, Rarity is supposed to be done with at least one of the,” I tried to not wince, “Dresses. Pick them up and give them to me please. Then you could patrol with the others.”
Apple Watch bowed, “Yes Princess.” She ran to Rarity’s room and I heard a knock before I went into my room, and saw that the others went to their stations. I floated the scroll to the table and put it down gently. I closed the door after concentrating on it. After I sat down, I heard a knock and I concentrated on opening the door slowly. It freaked open, revealing Apple Watch with the dresses.
I smiled, “Thanks.” I stared at the dresses, making sure that I was levitating everything to the table. Then, Apple Watch closed my door and I turned the lock with my mouth. I wasn’t sure about how to use my magic to do that yet. I sighed before opening the package, seeing two dresses instead of the one. I supposed that Rarity just wanted a night’s rest or just got too excited. I used my mouth to throw one on before flying to the mirror.
It wasn’t fancy, I had to give Rarity that. It was grey with a golden edge that sparkled, which I had to admit was cool. Maybe it makes me 10% cooler. I took it off before folding it with my hooves and put it in my closet in the daily wear section. Time for the other dress. I put it on before staring at the mirror once more, flapping my wings once in a while. It was a light blue color, like my other dress, but somehow, whenever I flapped my wings, it began to light up. Well, this wasn’t exactly casual but maybe I could wear this stupid dress to see the Wonderbolts and have them laugh at me. Ugh, it didn’t matter. I folded it and used my mouth to toss it into the fancy flying clothes section. I sighed before laying on the bed and sleeping.
I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock that was set for 8 in the morning to eat breakfast. I yawned before throwing on a casual dress as well as the crown, took the scroll, and walked out the door without brushing my mane. I closed the door with my magic and walked to the dining room with the guards. I wished that the guards didn’t have to walk with me. I took a few pancakes and ate them, before dismissing myself. Moondancer was waiting for me in the dining room and walked with me as I exited.
I levitated the scroll to Moondancer, who took it with her magic, “I’m supposed to find ponies for these positions. Please make sure that I do everything.”
Moondancer nodded, “Of course Princess. The first thing on this list is an informer.”
“What?”
“Princess-“
“Please don’t say Princess in each sentence.”
“Of course. Anyways, an informal walks around, is willing to travel, and will sort of requests for you such as which events they want you to be in and things like that.”
“So basically you.”
“Not exactly, I’m more like a scribe.”
“Is there a Pegasus willing to do this?”
“Pegasi don’t get paid a lot. You’ll find many Pegasi willing to work with royalty.”
“Do you get paid?”
“Yes, 20 bits a month I think since food and boarding is free or something. It comes straight from your bits room, which only you control.”
“Uhh... I still don’t know how that works.”
Moondancer replied, “Every unicorn, or in your case, alicorn, has the ability to bless a room if they intend to live in it forever. All you need to do is say, ‘I bless this room for everflowing bits’.”
“Okay. Anyways, I should take off to the sky.”
Spirit, who was trailing behind me with the other guards, said, “Of course Princess, I’ll go with you.” I took off, leaving Spirit behind by accident. I eventually found a city’s in the clouds and was devastated when I saw that the houses were tattered, even in clouds and they were mostly starving. I hated to think that I could only chose one of them to serve me and earn bits. They saw me and all bowed, keeping their tears to themselves.
I landed on a cloud, “What is going on here? Why is everypony so... poor?”
One of the Pegasi spoke up, “Princess Rainbow Dash, this is a poor city that isn’t known. No pony is employed here and we are an extended family, trying to support one another.”
I blinked, “Well... I need to hire an informer. What’s your name?”
“Cloud Chaser, Princess.”
“Good job, you’re hired. Fly down and tell them that I hired you as an informer.” Cloud Chaser bowed and fly down in a steady pace. I flew down with Spirit just as I waved at the city. Moonspirit wrote down the name before looking at the list.
She said, “Okay, we need a cook or two.”
I turned to Apple Watch, “Inform Applejack and Pinkie that if they accept, they are to be the cooks.” Apple Watch nodded and left.
Moondancer looked at her watch, “We have 10 minutes until we meet with the Wonderbolts at their headquarters.”
I nodded, “Okay, Spirit will fly with me.”
“A Princess flying without a chariot? That is not done and not proper.”
“You’ll find that I don’t exactly do anything proper and I’m always willing to do new things. In fact, I think I’ll change out of this dress too.”
“No! You’ll be teased and humiliated by everypony.”
“Kind of hard, considering my standing but fine. Let’s go a Spirit.” I took off in the air, with Spirit trailing behind me, getting smaller by the minute. I arrived and knocked on the door. The door opened and I saw the Wonderbolts kneeling on the floor.
I looked at Spitfire, “What?”
Spitfire rose up, “Princess Rainbow, I am unpleased to announce that-“
Luna teleported next to me, “Hi everypony. I’m not late since there is still 5 minutes, but we might as well start.”
Spitfire bowed before rising once more, “As I was saying, Princess Rainbow, that since you’re a princess, the Wonderbolts has lost a member.”
I asked, “What do you mean?”
“I mean that you, Princess, isn’t in the Wonderbolts anymore do to your new standings.”
I raged, “Of course I’m a Wonderbolt! I’ve done shows and I’ve done everything with you! You can’t just pack up and tell me to leave.”
Luna looked at me, “Princess Rainbow, calm down. I’m sure that we could leave everything to the Wonderbolts.”
Spitfire nervously said, “There isn’t a passing member that fits in the Wonderbolts, which is a problem.”
Luna rolled her eyes, “Is that it? It’s none of our concern. Let’s go Rainbow.” Without telling me, she teleported Spirit and I back to the palace.
I looked at Celestia who finished doing something, “I have decided what I’m going to be the princess of, Celestia.”
Celestia nodded, “Very well, there will be a party now. Everypony will come since I’m making a mandatory break. Get your dress and we’ll go.”
Author's Notes:
I based on the bits when Filthy Rich bought ALL the flowers somehow and didn’t demand for his bits back. Also, when Luna worked as Celestia, there wasn’t any bits flowing in.
The Princess of...
Author's Notes:
I admit, the last chapter was kind of bland and a little rushed. I hope that this one is better.
I had half an hour to prepare for the biggest moment in my life, next to the coronation. I put on the other ‘casual’ dress Rarity gave me, but the next thing I knew, I was back in Rarity’s room, getting measured once more and getting fabric in different places. I was concerned for her horn’s overuse but she seemed fine to me. Somehow, she finished an outfit that could rival my coronation dress, in twenty minutes. It was a light blue that’s glittered at every turn with soft cotton at the end to represent fluffy clouds. I blended in with the morning sky, as if I was a rare but I was still in there.
I smiled, “Thanks Rares.”
Rarity dabbed her eyes with a handkerchief, “This is officially one of my best works under twenty minutes. I can’t wait to see you.” There was a knock on the door, signaling the fact that the celebration was going to begin. I flew to the place I was instructed to by Celestia, thanking Rarity in my mind for making this dress easy to fly in.
Celestia looked at me and nodded in approval, “That dress is fantastic. Your designer did a great job doing this in under thirty minutes. Talking about time, it’s starting.” I nodded while hearing the trumpets blare. Celestia walked out, with the other princesses besides myself and made a speech that I barely heard.
She finally said, “Please welcome once more, Princess Rainbow Dash!” The crowd was thunderous, stomping their hooves. I walked out, smiling at evwrypony and waving a hoof.
I spoke in my princess voice, “Thank you for coming. I am pleased to announce that I am now officially... Rainbow Dash, Princess of the Skies!” That meant that all the Pegasi were in my rule, but unicorns and earth ponies still had to respect me and listen to me. Also, by giving myself this official title, it meant that I would harness all the power of weather making magic from the unicorns, making them incapable of changing the weather, not that they could change it. It’s just like the sun that Celestia controlled. Which other unicorn (not alicorn), was able to control it? None of them. I flew up, creating a Sonic Rainboom and dazzling the crowds. They stared in wonder at my feat as I landed back on the balcony. Meanwhile, the other princesses were staring at me in shock, as if wondering why I wanted to ‘stoop as low as the Pegasi’. Maybe it’s because the Pegasi needed somepony who actually would solve their problems? I spotted the CMC in the crowd and saw my honorary sister cheering along with my parents. Now, the Pegasi would come to me for their problems and would actually have a chance of being solved, instead of being dismissed.
I said, after the Pegasi stopped cheering, which was a while, “I will be in Cloudsdale, living in a palace.” Just then, a beam of rainbow shot out to Cloudsdale and constructed a palace somehow. Maybe the space Luna was talking about did it in order to recognize me as a princess.
Twilight stepped forwards, “All hail Princess Rainbow Dash, the princess of the Skies!” The earth ponies and the unicorns were conflicted but stomped their hooves in respect. The Pegasi, as I could tell, were enthusiastic and cheered for me a lot.
Luna stepped forwards, “Let the party begin!” The ponies danced around while the Pegasi were doing loops. It was all under the clear sky.
Meanwhile, Twilight looked at me, “Cloudsdale is over Ponyville. I guess that I won’t need to worry about you never seeing me again.” Twilight was wearing a dark purple dress that had stars sewn into it.
I rolled my eyes, “You never had to worry in the first place. Say, when are we going to get back to Ponyville or Cloudsville anyways?”
“Right after this party. Your personal guards, and your selected ponies for jobs will go too. I probably should talk to Starlight about a few magical spells I discovered but it looks like she is pretty busy over there.” I followed Twilight's gaze to see Starlight and Sunburst laughing with one another, seemingly content. I wasn't really into the romantic stuff though so I just rolled my eyes and looked away.
Twilight nudged me and whispered, "Rainbow, look, I'm sorry if I hurt you when I told you about the bits."
I admitted to her, "That is completely unfair. I mean, unicorns could just make money appear."
Twilight sighed, "You must understand that unicorns are superior races when it comes down to that. That's why we could do magic. No offense, princess of the skies.
To restate what Twilight was saying, she was saying, 'I'm sorry for keeping a secret from you since you were a lowly Pegasus before but you must understand that unicorns are better than you truly are. Oh, by the way, your previous race that you were born as was the lowest race. Also, no offense, princess of the lowest race.' Well, thanks a lot Twi.
I retorted, "Actually, I thought that Celestial made all races equal."
Twilight rolled her eyes, "Rainbow, you must understand that unicorns are most superior of the three basic races since we have magic, unlike any other race. Unicorns, besides alicorns, are the most powerful ones. Alicorns are considered as a combination so it isn't in the basic types."
I sighed and turned away, "Do you know why I chose to be the princess of the skies?"
"Why?"
"Because I know how they feel and I actually understand them in a way no other princess does."
"It's just the ways things are."
"And I intend to change it." Twilight sighed before flying off to join some of the others. I looked around Flying down to enjoy some of the delicious cakes that Pinkie made. Thank Celestia that there weren't any pies! I used my wing to slide a plate onto my hoof before digging in. When I finished the slice, I saw that just about every pony was staring at me. I ignored them before recycling the paper plate out.
After the ceremony, Twilight trotted to me, "It's time to get back to Ponyville. Well, Cloudsdale in your case. Let's go on the train."
"Sure." We walked to the train and sat down, chatting with our friends while avoiding contact with one another. It was hard, yet satisfying at the same time.
The conductor said over the announcements, "We are arriving in Ponyville." The train stopped and we all got off.
I turned to Rarity, Applejack, and Pinkie, "Girls, I know that you can't walk on clouds but maybe I could do something about that." Twilight rolled her eyes and blasted a spell at them that I assumed would let them walk on clouds. I dragged a cloud down and instructed Applejack to step on it. Applejack stepped through it instead. Twilight stared at the sight before shaking her head as if it was a hallucination.
I turned to Twilight, "I'm the princess of the skies. Non Pegasi need my blessing or something like that to enter through. I, Rainbow, give Applejack, Pinkie Pie, my personal guards, Moondancer, and Rarity the ability to walk on clouds." I pushed the cloud towards Applejack again and she tenderly tried out a step and to her shock, her hoof didn't go through the cloud.
Twilight blinked, "Well... I should probably go now. The guards would take your items to your palace sooner or later. See you."
"See you. Let's go everypony." The blessed ponies all followed the cloud staircase to my big and beautiful palace. I opened the doors and somehow, I managed to memorize the castle. It must've been the same to Twilight since she seemed to know the castle under a day. I gave all of them various rooms to suit their nature, such as a partially sewing room for Rarity.
Cloud Chaser walked in, bowing, "Princess Rainbow, I have started my job and I have a few ponies that want to talk to you. Here are the papers. Please tell me which to accept and which to reject so I could send them letters replying." I took the papers in my mouth, nodding at Cloud Chaser to sit on the floor. I sat on the floor too and I began opening them with my mouth. It wasn't a few ponies that wanted to talk to me. It seemed like half of Equestria wanted to.
I called for Moondancer and she trotted next to me, her quill already in position.
I read the first letter, "Dear Princess Rainbow, I am the mayor of Cloudsdale. I had found a acceptance letter for meeting with you yet I understand why you didn't make it. Despite that, I still want to talk to you about some urgent business. Would tomorrow at 9 in the afternoon be alright? From, the mayor." I tossed the letter to the acceptance bin that Cloud Chaser had dragged over and Moondancer wrote it down.
The second letter read, "Dear Rainbow, I understand that you're kind of busy but I think that we should have picnic with the others. They already agreed although Rarity, Applejack, and Pinkie will ask you tomorrow. It is around 1 in the afternoon. Also, I need to give you a few books on various topics, so you should probably go too. From, Twilight."
I nodded at Moondancer before writing with my mouth, 'Sounds great. I'll be there.' I gave it to Cloud Chaser, who understood me and flew away with the letter in his mouth.
I took the third letter, "Princess Rainbow, This is the Wonderbolts. We are wondering if you could come and talk about it, so better Pegasi are willing to join. Spitfire." I didn't think that I could face the Wonderbolts yet, and they wanted me as an advertisement. Nope, I'm not doing that. I threw it into the reject bin. Cloud Chaser came back and sat down. I continued to sort out the letters in the way I wanted. I dismissed them and went to my own room, taking the positions out. One of the positions caught my eye. Personal Army. Right, I needed an army just in case something fights and I needed something of my own. What should I call them though? Celestia's were the Wonderbolts and the Guards. Luna's were the Shadowbolts and wasn't entrusted to any other guards. Twilight never talked to us about this and Cadence had the Crystal Guards. I needed a really dark and scary name. Maybe the first word could be Dark. Dark what though? Dark... Dark.... Dark Powers? Nah, too weird. Wait... My army would be mostly consisted of Pegasi and most of them would have wings. Dark Wings? Ehh... Better than Dark Powers, which would suit unicorns more. Maybe that'll be my unicorn army. Now, earth ponies. Dark... Guards? I couldn't really think of a super awesome name for them so I guessed that Dark Guards would work.
I laid on my bed as I was thinking. Well, I wouldn't want them to be a spy or anything. They must join under their own will and be loyal. Maybe there's a unicornish way to do that. Yes, I love making up words. Anyways, maybe I'll ask if I could borrow books about magic and return them afterwards. That was worth a try in my books, although it would be a headache to actually learn all of them. I closed my eyes and slept in a deep sleep.
I woke up at first light, thinking of Wonderbolt practice but then, I realized that I wasn't one of them anymore. I wanted to seethe at them but I didn't think that it would be polite to do that. I sighed before I realized that I didn't need to wear a dress, as I'm not in Canterlot. Besides, Twilight never wore a dress in Ponyville so why should I be any different? I flew to the dining room before seeing Moondancer drinking some coffee in there.
Moondancer looked up and hastily bowed, "Good morning Princess."
I sighed, "Moondancer, please don't bow every single time. You're my friend as well as having a job and I don't think that there's need to bow. Same goes to Cloud Chaser." I looked at Cloud, who was sheepishly smiling, bowing at the doors of the dining room.
Cloud Chaser sat down, "Okay, Prin-"
"And none of the Princess stuff."
"Of course, Prin-I mean Rainbow. You're really laid back."
I chuckled, "Thanks." I used my wings to fly and grab some bagels and ate them. The other two did the same. Pinkie, Applejack, and Rarity were going to have some time to themselves. Besides, Pinkie always wanted to make Ponyville smile and I hated to think what would happen to Ponyville if she disappeared. Same went to Rarity and Applejack, who had their own place in Ponyville.
Moondancer looked at her list, "We have 5 minutes before the weather factory. Let's get going." I sighed before nodding.
I looked at both of them, "Cloud Chaser, you need to collect message and what not. Moondancer, let's go."
"I can't fly."
"I'll push you on a cloud." Pretending to not hear her protests, I set her on a cloud and flew to the weather factory, with her hanging on in fear. I didn't go super fast like a normally would've, since I didn't want her to fall. We finally arrived there and she climbed off.
Moondancer took a deep breath, "Never again."
Cloudsdale Duties
I gulped before knocking on the door with Moonspirit behind me. The door creaked open and I walked in. Ponies bowed to me, either from fear or respect. Used to the factory, I walked to the main pony's office. I was a little shocked to see Lightning Dust there, looking at a few papers. Since when was she the big boss of the weather factory? It took me a few years to get that far in the position.
Lightning saw me and bowed her head in respect, "Hi Princess Rainbow. I wanted to talk to you about a few things. First, I know that most princesses want weather reports. I'm going to send them in weekly from now. Here is this week's weather. Most ponies will love it." I looked at the weather report which showed that it was going to be sunny every single day, besides one where it was going to be partly cloudy.
I asked, "When is it going to rain?"
"Not for a long time since everypony loves the sun, Princess." I didn't bother to ask her to stop calling me Princess, although we knew one another for some time.
I replied, "What about the farm ponies?"
"What about them, Princess?"
"Their crops need rain. Don't you ever want to eat anything?"
She thought for a moment before replying, "Well, everypony wants to eat. Doesn't their water come from a well though or sprinklers? I don't see how that has anything to do with rain."
I replied, "Rain makes the water from the well to water them. You really need to know some things about farming." Then, I just realized that if this was how Lightning was managing things, then half of the apple trees must be dead already. If I don't water them, they're going to be completely dead.
I stood up, "I've got to go." I flew off, forgetting that Moondancer couldn't fly, in a desperate attempt to save the Apple farm. I bolted through an open window in the barn and panted. I saw Applejack and her family talking about something. I cleared my throat. They looked at me and bowed, all expect for Applejack.
Applejack smiled, "Thank Celestia you're here! We were talking about trying to use a balloon to talk to Lightning Dust. Of course, we can't walk on clouds so it might of been a little hard."
I sighed, "Lightning doesn't know the first thing about farming nor what it needs. I've been talking to her for some time before realizing that the farm would be in really bad shape by now. So, how much of the farm is left?" They exchanged looks with one another before Applejack beckoned me to follow her. I obliged immediately. I immediately saw that the trees were almost begging for water, which was something I had never seen before. Maybe it was because there were Earth Pony blood in me now. I flew up to the clouds to examine the whole entire orchard. I sighed in relief when I realized that only one-third of the tree population were dead. I expected worse.
I flew down, "Applejack, you do know that I had given you permission to walk on clouds, right?"
Applejack hoof palmed, "Ah forgot! Mighty sorry Rainbow."
"Nah, anypony could've forgotten. Except for the fact that's you can't exactly fly to the place either. Hmm... Let me try to do it anyways. I give my blessing for Applejack to fly." I looked at Applejack who close down her eyes and probably was imagining how to fly. She was also hopping around. Needless to say, I couldn't make ponies fly.
I sighed, "Applejack, I don't think that I could make anypony fly since you would need to have wings. Anyways, I'll water the trees for now." I fly upwards and gathered storm clouds to the unwatered apples trees. I hopped on all the clouds in a pattern and flew back down, not caring that I was getting wet.
Applejack, surprisingly, hugged me, "Thanks Rainbow. The farm would've died without ya here."
I blinked, "You're my best friend Applejack. I would've done this at any time." I looked at the cloud which were out of water. Then, I examined the trees and decided that they were watered enough.
Applejack nodded, "Well, do ya mind if you could find a way to let me talk to Lightning?"
I smirked, "Well... There is an easy way." I used my hooves to grab Applejack and I flew to the weather factory. I released my grip on her and she stared at the cloud, as if expecting to fall down. Thankfully, she didn't. Applejack walked into the factory and I turned around to see that Moondancer was there, still waiting.
Moondancer sighed, "Permission to speak freely?"
I rolled my eyes, "Always."
"It's time for your first appearance in Cloudsdale, your mane is wet, your hooves are dirty, and your not even dressed."
I looked at myself, "Well, it's time to get to Rarity's place then. Since you don't want to travel by cloud, I suppose that I'll just carry you there." Once again, I picked her up and flew to the boutique.
Rarity called out, "One second please!" I heard the sewing machine turn off.
The door opened, "Welcome to-Rainbow. You don't need to knock. What happened to you?"
I sighed, "Let's just say that I saved Applejack's farm and got a little muddy. Oh, and I'm having a public appearance in..."
Moondancer supplied, "Five minutes."
Rarity gasped, "Five minutes! Darling, we need to hurry." She dragged me into a shower and sprayed me with warm water. After a few second, she put shampoo into my mane and throughly washed it. Rarity blew it with a hair dryer before putting my hair in its usual style. Then, she put a dress that she probably had just made and threw it on me. I saw myself in the mirror and saw that it was similar to my Grand Galloping Gallop dress. Rarity used a tie or something to put my mane in just as Moondancer came in.
Moondancer stared, "Rarity, you have outdone yourself. Prin- I mean Rainbow, we need to go." I nodded before I grabbed Moondancer and flew away. She looked like she was about to scream but didn't. I set her on a cloud before looking around.
I asked, "So what exactly am I supposed to do?"
Moondancer sighed, "Your chariot is over there and ponies will fly you around the place."
I nodded, "Okay, I'll meet you back here?"
"Actually, I think somepony is making a party to celebration for you. I think it was the pink pony you blessed. Also, somepony else is also helping her." I flew to the chariot and waved at Moondancer. The chariot ponies finally flew over and bowed to me before taking off. I looked around Cloudsdale, not even bothering to make a smile. Then, I remembered that I probably should smile or the press would snap photos and do other things to my reputation. I sighed before forcing a smile and waving at them. The Pegasi cheered, flapping their wings around. Finally, we got to the destination of what seemed an eternity. If I flew by myself, I could've gotten there in a few minutes at most.
The Pegasi landed and I flew off. The doors opened and I saw that Pinkie had outdone herself. There were streamers everywhere and there was confetti. There was also a banner on the top as well as a VIP (very important pony) section where I chose which ponies could go in. In other words, it was perfect.
Pinkie blew her party cannon, "Let's get this party started!" She put a rocking DVD in the record player and blasted it at full volume. Ponies were trying to get to me and I quickly escaped to the VIP section.
I thought of what Twilight would say so I said, "One at a time please. Form a line so I could talk to you." The Pegasi pushed one another and tried to cut. I sighed before waiting.
The first pony was Blossomforth, "Princess Rainbow, I would like to still address the issue of-"
I interrupted, "Any issues will be discussed at the next town hall. Moondancer? Could you put a town hall meeting in my schedule that starts from 1 in the afternoon?"
Moondancer nodded, "Yes." She took out her notebook and wrote down something.
Blossomforth smiled, "Also, I would like to shake your hoof." There were voices of agreement behind her. I knew that this was going to take a long time, especially if everypony wanted to shake my hoof. I shook her hoof and she bowed before leaving. The next pony bowed and shook my hoof. After eight ponies, my hoof was already starting to hurt.
Moondancer called, "Rainbow, you need to go to the picnic!" I heard noises of complaints in front of me but I wasn't about to ditch my friends in the picnic.
So I did exactly what the other princesses would do, "I'm sorry everypony but I must go. I will come back as soon as I could. Also, this party will end at 4:30." I walked to the door, with all the ponies bowing besides Moondancer and Pinkie. Moondancer followed me out the door. Before she could even say anything, I grabbed her and went to the palace.
I sighed, "Moondancer, I think I'll be fine alone at the picnic. Make sure that the others are resting or patrolling or something. I need to bless a random room and change out of this dress." Moondancer nodded and trotted away. I went to the room next to mine that didn't have any door. I used some of my new magic and made sure that only I could enter or exit this room, unless I permit somepony else.
I said, "I bless this room with everflowing bits." Immediately, bits started to appear everywhere, except for the entrance where I came in of. The piles didn't touch the ceiling so I could easily reach them. I smiled before flying through the wall and into my room. I threw off my dress before going back to the bits room, which was what I was going to call it. I used my mouth to get 4 bits before putting it in a saddlebag. I took a few leftover cupcakes and put them in a box before putting that in my saddlebag also. I flew down to the picnic blanket, where all my friends were waiting.
Rarity looked up from her mirror, "Darling! You're here."
I nodded, "Why wouldn't I be?"
Twilight took a slice of apple, "Well, I figured that you might be a little busy on your first day of duties. I remember my first day."
Spike gulped down a gem, "Me too, Twilight had overpacked her schedule." Twilight covered Spike with one of her wings.
Applejack offered me cider, "Here, have some cider."
I took out my bits and gave them to Applejack, "Here are the bits for the last cider."
Applejack shook her head, "Shucks, Rainbow. Ah don't need any bits from you after ya saved my farm. Keep them." I nodded as I slipped them back into my saddlebag. I took the cupcakes out and set them on the blanket. Then, I put on my sunglasses and relaxed.
I said, "How is the farm anyways?"
"Ah spoke to Lightning about it but she refused to do anything. The trees are drying up again and Ah don't know what to do. Cider season is almost here and I don't know what the farm will do without enough apples, especially the large demand. It'll be like the two brothers again."
Twilight suggested, "We could help collect your apples."
I offered, "I'll water your trees again and talk to Lightning."
Fluttershy said, "I could ask some of my cute earthworms to help with the fertilizer."
Applejack sighed, "That would be great but there isn't a way to grow apples quicker. Also, there aren't enough trees thanks to the lack of rain. Even business has been slowing down in attempt to have enough cider."
Twilight said, "Then we will do our best to stack apples and help to get the season going for at least the first few days. In fact, let's go."
Pinkie looked at me, "You do know that leaving ponies hanging during your first party isn't that great, right?"
I stood up, "Saving the farm is more important. Besides, I'll just water the trees before popping in with a dress and shake a few more hooves. Then I have to judge something and meet with the mayor." I flew up to make a few storm clouds with magic and gathered them in the farm. I bounced on them until there wasn't any rain left in them. Then, I made it partly cloudy by kicking them. I flew back to my house and threw on my dress before going back to the party. There, I shook about the hooves of half of them whilst forcing a smile.
Moondancer interrupted a hoof shake, "I'm sorry Rainbow but it's time to judge a baking contest." I sighed before taking off with her on my back.
I landed on a cloud, "Am I in time for the contest?"
The manager bowed, "Yes Princess. This is the baking contest. Here is a sheet so you could manage which ones to chose." I grabbed the sheet with my mouth and nodded before holding it with my hoof. I took a feather with ink to write on. Then, I realized that it would be hard to eat with a feather in my mouth. That meant I had to levitate and start horn writing, which was something I had never done. It shouldn't be too hard... right? I took a deep breath before levitating the paper easily and making it follow along in front of me as I walked. I also levitated the quill and wrote my name on the top of the paper, making it messy but somehow legible. It was better than nothing.
I walked to the first place, "What do you have here?"
The pony stood up and bowed, "Princess, these are oreo cupcakes with mint sprinkles on them." I nodded before eating one and marking it on the paper. The cupcake just melted in my mouth and I loved them. The next pony's food wasn't any worse. I looked at what seemed as the never ending line of ponies and gulped, knowing that only a few would leave happily today. Then, I continued to eat the delicious food and the tastes began to mingle with one another. Strawberry, banana, apple, and so on. Finally, it was over and every single one of them did deserve a prize. The manager motioned me to stand on the stage and bowed when I flew there.
I cleared my throat, "All of your food is really delicious and awesome. Uhh.... The winners that are 10 percent cooler are... third place Blaze, second place is a young colt named Rumble, and first place is Misty Walker. Congratulations." I flew off the stage and gave the three ribbons before leaving. I decided to head back to my castle to do something. I carried Moondancer on my back as we went. She shuddered before hopping off and muttering. I looked at the clock that was in my castle, before seeing that there was a few hours before I had to fly to meet the mayor who wouldn't tell anypony their name. For now, I could get my flyers and personal army under my hoof. I knew that I already had three personal guards who were patrolling, but they were under Celestia's command, not mine.
I waved to Apple Watch, "Where's Spirit Runner and Fire Bright?"
Apple Watch replied, "Spirit is patrolling above, Fire is patrolling in the halls, and I'm here to make sure that nopony comes in without permission."
"Thanks." I flew into my castle, immediately finding a small office. I guess it was for unfortunate paperwork. The desk was facing the door with a window on the side. I began drawing a flyer for Dark Wings. Then, I remembered Spitfire had a stamp to make it become quicker. I finished making a large stamp before trying it on a card sized paper. It worked. The background had a black tone. There were masked figures there, each with a number. One through six. I had decided that there were going to be twelve numbers; six on duty with myself as the Captain and not as a number, with six as backup. I didn't need a backup but the others might. Then, I realized that I wasn't sure about who to send it to. Fluttershy was a definite no. Lightning was a no. Who else was there? Cloud Watcher wasn't going to be the best pony to do it either. I also knew that I would need regular Pegasi guards that aren't special to make up in numbers and to not rise suspicion. By Equestria, being a Princess was exhausting.
I thought, 'What should it be on anyways? I mean, what's the purpose of this secret army instead of a personal one? Maybe because I'll manage things differently or something? I'll probably just ask Celestia for regular guards since I know that Twilight got her small army from the her. How should I even send it? It's not like I have a personal dragon who could directly send letter to the princess. Also, a messenger would take too long. What about magic? Too bad that I don't know too much about that. I should write the letter first then borrow a few of Twilight's books for different stuff. I mean, she is always pushing me to read."
I used my mouth to write:
Dear Princess Celestia,
This is Rainbow. If it's possible, try to send a few guards over to protect my palace or whatever guards do. Well, see ya!
Your faithful... ... princess? Subject? Or whatever you feel like calling me,
Rainbow
I flew to Twilight's palace and went through my favorite window to get to the library, "Hi Twilight. Hey Starlight."
Starlight looked at me, "Hi Rainbow. Twilight and I were just studying a complex method and a spell that Starswirl found."
Twilight nodded, "Did you need something, Rainbow?"
I looked around, "Yeah, I do Twilight. Do you mind I found I borrow some books about magic?"
"You want a book!" Twilight's eyes practically glowed in happiness, "Of course you can borrow one. I would suggest a telekinesis book although you already did it. Hmm... Maybe a teleportation book? It could be quite useful."
I blinked, "I think I'll just go through the books and take whatever interests me."
"Sure. Now, Starlight, I think that the spell..." I zoned out the rest as I flew around, looking at the teleportation section. By the way I saw it, Spike's fire thing was actually a flashy teleportation spell over long distances. Maybe there was even a location spell for Celestia so it would appear in front of her. I did my best to levitate three books at me: two about teleportation and one about locating.
I waved my hoof, "Thanks again Twi!" I flew out the window, making sure that the books were in front of me the whole time. Just as I went to my room and set the books on my drawer, there was a knock on my door. I used my magic to open it slowly and gently. It took about ten or so seconds to open that door, which was kind of sad, but it was better than almost ripping the door off of its hinges.
Moondancer walked in, "You have around ten minutes to talk to the mayor."
I sighed, glancing at the books, "Okay. When I'm talking to the mayor, can you recruit a messenger to let me send messages to different ponies?"
"Yes, I can but you need somepony to go with you."
I pointed out, "Twilight goes everywhere without guards."
"It's just that you're a new princess."
"I'll be fine Moondancer."
"What about a dress?"
"Nah, I'm already radiating with awesomeness." Before Moondancer would pull a Twilight on me, I flew out the window, making sure to close it behind me. I finally arrived at the office of the mayor and I knocked.
A voice said, "Come in, Princess." The doors opened and I saw three ponies bowing to me. I guessed that the middle one was the mayor.
I flew to the seat, "Hi, what did you want to talk about?"
The mayor replied, "Princess, Ponyville is nominated for the tornado to make sure that there are enough clouds. We need somepony to make sure that everything is good. I know that you aren't going to participate anymore nor be able to direct, so do you have any preferences in who to select?"
I blinked, "What do you mean about the fact that I can't direct or be part of the tornado thingy?"
The pony next to him nervously said, "Well, Princess Rainbow, it's just not seen for ponies like you to do it. It's a Pegasi tradition and honor, not an Alicorn one."
I shook in anger, unable to contain it, "Are you saying that I'm not a Pegasi anymore? I have wings and I will use them to be in the tornado!"
The mayor cowered on the ground, "Princess, please... you must understand that."
"You know what?! I don't understand why I can't be in this."
"Princess... Forgive us."
"Are you saying that I'm not a Pegasus anymore? I've already been stripped from the Wonderbolts, from my destiny, and from many other things that you aren't aware on. Now, you're saying that I can't be part of a tradition of honor." They glanced at one another before looking at the floor.
I said, "I believe that our meeting here is over." I slammed the door open, blowing it off its hinges, and flew out.
Jealousy and A Weird Turn
Author's Notes:
Warning: Very VERY weird chapter. And it's not really good either.
Third Person POV
Down the streets of Canterlot, Rarity was looking after her boutique. She smiled as she finished the last stitch of a dress that was simply adoring. The tinkle of a bell rose sweetly through the air and Rarity stood up to greet her customer.
She said with a smile, "Welcome to-" Rarity stopped talking once she saw who it was. It was Fancy Pants. Rarity looked around without arousing suspicion and wondered what was happening. Fancy Pants was always surrounded by his friends to cheer him. This time, the stallion wasn't even smiling. The most influential figure went to her shop, frowning.
Rarity asked, "How may I help you?" Rarity wondered why this figure was frowning with displeasure.
Fancy Pants asked with forced politeness, "Rarity, may we speak about a few certain factors alone? As you can see, this boutique doesn't have many security or privacy."
Rarity said, gulping, "Of course Fancy Pants. Follow me please." Rarity began walking to a more private spot, which was her personal sewing room. Her white hooves trotted with the sense of a lady as she nervously his her fear. Fancy Pants followed, his head high. His expression was unreadable as they walked in.
Rarity motioned for him to sit down on one of the chairs, "Do tell me, what troubles you here on this bright morning?"
His eyes narrowed, "I am here to talk with you. First, you did lie to me when you bragged about how good you are. You lied a lot throughout the course of when it was Princess Twilight's birthday. She wasn't a princess back then, but you still lied." Rarity took a deep breath before realizing that she didn't really have too much of an excuse.
She desperately pulled one of her few strings, "Y-Yes but I wasn't lying about other things, such as living in the castle." Fancy Pants stayed in silence for a moment, as if wondering what to say next to win this battle they were mentally having.
The stallions finally said, "Many ponies live in the castle. The Royal Guards are one example." Rarity couldn't help but feel a little intimidated by Fancy Pants. His tall stature and his firmness drove her insane. Rarity really wanted to kiss him for unknown reasons. Fancy Pants raised an eyebrow to her and she felt her love pouring.
Fancy Pants chuckled, "Rarity, you do know that you should check contents out before doing anything, right? You are currently under the effects of a truth potion. I'm an unicorn."
Rarity felt her mind spin when he chuckled before saying, "B-But you're the most important pony in Equestria! Why are you doing this?"
Fancy Pants replied, "Have you ever read Harry Potter?"
"You mean the stallion wizard with a horn levitating an ugly stick to shoot magic beams out of? Yes."
"Yes. I am like Professor Lockheart. Did you seriously believe that I was able to levitate myself and make many of the famous books with my name on it? I didn't but another pony did. Of course, I gave them a forgetfulness potion to them, and erased memories. My cutie mark is about potions."
"I-I'll never forgive you for this!"
Fancy Pants leaned over, "I despise you for lying and that's enough of a reason. Now, tell me about yourself."
Back to Rainbow
I storm out of the place before going to my palace. I knew that Rarity wouldn't be in her boutique as she was in Canterlot. Twilight was definitely studying with Starlight. Applejack was going to me on the farm. Who knows what Pinkie was doing? Fluttershy was doing something with her animals. It was late and I knew it. Moondancer was next door, snoring. I had checked before I went to my room.
I sat on the bed and looked at the mirror. I looked like a mess with my mane frazzled. Rarity would have a fit, if she was here. A cool shower would wake me up though. I turned the knob to cool and felt my mane stick to my head as the fresh water went down my mane. I turned the knob off before levitating a blanket over just with a small tug of will and drying myself with it. I put on my pajamas and decided to sleep.
Unfortunately, Cloud Chaser chose to knock on the door at that moment, "Prin-Rainbow. Princess Twilight requests for you to go to her castle."
I sighed and muttered, "Five more minutes."
"What was that?!"
I called out, "I'll be out in a few minutes!" I flew outside and landed outside of Twilight's castle. I trotted in and sat down on my chair.
Twilight yawned, "Thanks for coming everypony. I wouldn't have asked you here if it isn't important!"
Twilight turned to me and smiled, "And thanks for not breaking the door or a window." Applejack and Pinkie stifled some laughter while Fluttershy nodded.
Twilight finally said, "I just came from an interesting conversation with the Cloudsdale mayor who seems to be in a state of hysterics. He seemed to be having a friendship problem. You wouldn't know anything about that, would you Rainbow?"
I smirked, "No."
Twilight rolled her eyes before turning to the others, "That could be resolved later. For now, we need to be focused on something. Rarity appeared in my library with a bright burst of aura surrounding her. I can assume that she was teleported. When she woke up, she couldn't remember anything, her name inclusive. She's in my room currently, sleeping. We need to investigate." The door creaked open and we all reared back, prepared to fight. Instead of a monster or an enemy, it was Rarity who walked in.
Rarity stumbled into the room, "Twilight? Who's surrounding you?"
Twilight replied, "Try to recall. Maybe you'll get back a few memories. Think of the color pink. What do you see?"
"I see that pink mare over there. Wait a second... Pinkie? Rainbow? Twilight? Applejack? Fluttershy?" Her memories clicked and her cutie mark glowed for a few seconds.
Twilight hugged her, "Rarity! I'm so glad that you're back to normal. Now, who took you and ponynapped you?"
Rarity shook her mane, tears forming in her eyes, "I could only remember being in my sewing room with an unicorn looming over me. I-I ate something yesterday that made my tell the truth to him by making him appeal to me. Twilight, I'm-I'm pregnant."
Twilight asked, "What did you say?"
I sighed, "You're starting to sound like Fluttershy."
Rarity broke down, crying, "I-I-I'm pr-pregnant!" I gasped in shock, clearly not expecting that.
I asked Twilight, "Is there a spell to get Rarity unpregnant?"
Twilight shook her head sadly, "No, she will have to give birth. Technology really hasn't been improving nor magic in this section. Also, unpregnant isn't a word." Rarity full out bawled while the others looked at her with sympathy.
She cried out, "This is the worst. Possible. Thing. And I actually mean it this time." Rarity levitated a fainting couch that came out of nowhere and pretended to faint on it. Behind the couch were two buckets of ice cream, which she immediately began to eat. Twilight signaled us to give Rarity some space and we all backed away.
I looked at the time, "Sorry girls. I need to go to a town meeting."
Twilight looked at the same clock, "Me too." I flew out the window and into my throne room, where many Pegasi were already gathered. I sat on the throne and waited for the clock to tick to one.
I said, "Welcome to-"
Moondancer sat by my sighed and whispered, "Rainbow, they can't hear you. You need to use your royal voice, like every other princess. Also... You kind of forgot to get a few advisors." I really hated my royal voice, if I was going to tell the truth.
I sighed, "You are going to be my advisor, if you are up for it. I mean, you are the only pony I trust that's here and is able to freely voice your opinions. I know that the others are still a little scared of my awesomeness."
Moondancer nodded, "I'll have to call you Princess though."
"Scratch the princess part. Twilight never uses it."
"How do you know? Did she trust you to go to one of her meetings?" I shook my head. I had denied the offer before, although I did read the newspaper about how Rarity called Twilight a princess.
Moondancer sighed, "Well, I've been to one with a small problem after she visited me and everypony, even your friend Pinkie, called her a princess since the press could be disastrous. Trust me, okay?"
She did know better than I did so I nodded, "Fine, but I'm asking Twilight later."
I took a deep breath before using my royal voice, "Welcome everypony, to the first meeting for the Pegasi. Uhh... Without further ado, let's begin. Moondancer will trot around and chose a Pegasus who is raising their hoof to speak who will stand on the carpet. Then the Pegasus will talk about this problem and stuff will happen." Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Moondancer almost slapping her hoof into her forehead. She didn't though and smiled politely. She trotted down the stairs with ease and randomly chose a pony in the first row that I didn't recognize.
The pony stood up, walked to the carpet, and bowed, "Princess Rainbow. It is my honor to be here. I have a few concerning issues about my grandmother, who has fallen ill with the feather flu. As you know, Princess, the feather flu is deadly for the elder Pegasi." Why was he asking about health issues? I don't give a flying feather about them. I looked at Moondancer for help.
Moondancer said, "If I may, Princess, I think that your grandmother should go to a nearby hospital."
I nearly slapped myself on the forehead before saying, "Moondancer, there aren't any hospitals in the sky. Also, Earth ponies and Unicorns don't really know how to treat this condition. That's what makes it super deadly."
Moondancer looked down, "Sorry."
I turned to the Pegasus, "How bad is it?"
He replied with a shaky voice, "S-She is v-ve-very sick, Princess. E-even if she'll d-d-die, I-I don't w-want it to hap-happen to anypony else."
I looked at Fire Bright, who was standing on the other side of my throne, "Fire and Moondancer, you were both one of Princess Celestia's students. Do you think that it'll be possible to cure it with magic?"
Fire hesitated, "Nopony has ever tried before, Princess."
I said, "Then I shall pay for educated ponies to create a big hospital in Cloudsdale. Remember though, you could still create hospitals but this one will be the first one and hopefully will be successful. What's your name?"
The pony said, "My name is Dive, Princess."
"Are you willing to advertise and draw other Pegasi to try to pass an exam to be in the hospital?"
"Of course Princess."
I turned to the crowd, "Auditions to be in a position shall be held from 8 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon to find qualified ponies. I know that you most likely won't have any medical licenses but as the princess, I am qualified to give them out. As a side note, I am recruiting guards and other members. If you are interested, please ask me to see if you can fill in any of the positions. Now, Dive, you are dismissed. Who is the next pony?"
After 6 hours of boring stuff...
I said, "The town meeting is over. The next meeting will be next week at the same time." The Pegasi nodded, muttering happily amongst themselves. Moondancer and I solved many problems and reseolved whatever we could. My personal guards went and did whatever they did around the castle. I excused myself to read magic books and practiced my magic. Levitation was easy now and so was basic transfiguration, such as transforming apples into oranges and back. Once, I even accidentally turned my bed into a pillow when I really wanted to sleep. I was also able to form shields that swords couldn't break through and I didn't ask Twilight to try to break it. It was time to attempt teleportation. Today would be my first attempt to appear in Twilight's library. It wasn't really long distance so I should be fine. I knew that I just needed to think of the library and then think of teleporting there.
I closed my eyes and concentrated, 'Library... Library... Library..." It was important to vividly remember it and pinpoint an exact location. When I could manage it easily though, I wouldn't need to do that. I continued to think about that before thinking of teleporting myself there. I felt my stomach turn a few times and I landed somewhere that contradicted my cloud floor. I stumbled, my vision unclear and threw up in a nearby garbage can.
A voice asked, "Rainbow?" Twilight used her hoof to make me steadier. Although my head was pounding, I managed to not throw up again. I saw Twilight sitting next to me on one of her chairs.
Twilight said, "Drink this." She levitated a drink to my hoof. Too exhausted to move my hoof up, I easily used my magic to lift the drink up to my mouth. In a few quick gulps, I drink the foul tasting liquid. Immediately, my senses returned and I didn't feel like throwing up anymore.
I said, "Thanks Twi."
"No problem," she said as she levitated the empty cup someplace else.
Twilight asked, "Was that teleporting on purpose or on instinct?"
I answered, "I did it on purpose. Also, I thought that I would check on Rarity."
Twilight's eyes lit up, "You did? I'm sooo proud of you! If you want, I could help you with teleportation, which isn't exactly easy. Maybe we could even work on your control. I remember having barely any control over my magic once I was an alicorn. Do you want to work together?"
I nodded, "That'll be cool. What time are free tomorrow?"
Twilight looked at her calendar, "I'm free at six in the night. Maybe you could come and stay for dinner."
"Sure."
I asked once more, "Is Rarity okay?"
Twilight sighed, "Not really. She is very confused at the moment. Let's visit her. Do you want to try and teleport us there? She's in her room in this castle, which I know that you've been in before. I'll get some of my potion, just in case."
I nodded, "Sure, that will be cool." She levitated a drink in a bottle and waited. I touched her and thought of her room from before teleporting. I immediately felt dizzy once more but I quickly drank before I would throw up on Rarity, who wouldn't like it.
Rarity was on the bed, "Hi Twilight. Hi Rainbow."
I approached her, "Hey, are you feeling awesomer?"
Rarity weakly smiled, "I still can't believe it but I am feeling slightly better."
Twilight trotted over, "I think that you'll be okay for an ultrasound."
I asked, "What's that?"
Twilight replied, "It's a magic scan to see the foal." She used her magic and a screen popped up.
Twilight gulped, "Uhh... Rarity?"
Rarity gulped, "What is it?"
"I can't tell what the gender of him or her is. It's there for sure but I think that it's dead. I'm sorry Rarity, but you will be giving birth to a dead foal."
Rarity took out some ice cream, "Of all the worst things... This is the worst. Possible. Thing!"
Rarity levitated a spoon over, "And I actually mean it this time."
I turned to Twilight, "Geez, couldn't you at least soften the blow?"
Twilight only shook her mane, "I need to tell the truth, Rainbow. It was necessary. I'll leave you two to talk." She trotted out and closed the door.
A Meeting with Space
I asked Twilight, "Are you absolutely sure about this?"
Twilight nodded grimly, flapping her wings, "Yes. Rarity, I'm going to be in my lab. Canterlot has the best doctors in all of Equestria. We are going to travel there in ten minutes. Rainbow, take a day off. You deserve it. I'm going to inform the other girls about this trip." I nodded and wrote a letter saying that Moondancer needed to clear my schedule for three days and cover for me, but not make really important decisions. I also entrusted her to chose the ponies that would run the hospital. Now, all I had to do was teleport this scroll to her. It was too bad about the fact that I didn't have a magical dragon or know where she was.
Spike walked in to the room, "Hey Rainbow. D'ya need something?"
I nodded, "Yes. Send this letter to Moondancer, Spike. I kind of need to take days off to go to Canterlot. Are you going with us?"
Spike sighed and blew the letter in his green flame, "No, Ember wants to talk about a few things. As the official ambassador to the dragons, I have a duty."
"Ember is cool. Anyways, I've got to go and pack a saddlebag." I teleported into my cloud room and wobbled a little bit before falling onto the bed. Luckily, I did not throw up. Maybe there was actually a chance that I was getting better at magic. I levitated around twenty bits out and poured it into my saddlebag before deciding to grab one hundred in total. One hundred minus twenty is... Shoot, I was never really good at math. Uh... Let's just say that it equals one hundred. Yeah, totally. I levitated another hundred bits into my bag, making it actually one hundred twenty. I glanced at the calendar and saw that the next Daring Do book wouldn't be out for another three months. I sighed before packing the last five Daring Do books into my saddlebag. After that, I took some food and water from my personal fridge. I set the saddlebag down, knowing that there was still time.
Once I set the saddlebag on my bed, I felt the weird thing in my stomach again. I disappeared from view and into space. I looked around to see... Absolutely nothing around.
I called out, "Hello?"
An alicorn flew down, "Hello. My name is Space. I am the ultimate power, the one that grant alicorns horns, wings, or both. I have some content to share with you. First off, do you know the other princesses' official titles?"
I nodded, "Sure. Everypony knows that. Celestia's is Princess Celestia of Equestria, Alicorn of the Sun. Princess Luna of the second ruler of Equestria, Alicorn of the Night. Princess Cadence of the Crystal Empire, Alicorn of Love. Princess Twilight of the Element of Magic, Alicorn of Friendship."
She nodded, "Yes, you are correct. You have not yet reached your destiny yet. Celestia and Luna have built the castle and planned for many wars, making their rules official. Cadence has helped rescue the Crystal Empire, making her rule official. You already know Twilight's but you... You don't have you. All you know is that you suddenly had a horn. Princess Rainbow of the Skies, was something that you chose, instead of what destiny chose for you. Yes, you are the Alicorn of the Skies, a title that you are allowed to grant yourself but as for you your purpose is, you still need to figure it out."
I looked at my hooves, "Who am I?"
Space replied, "Normally, I wouldn't tell you, Rainbow. Unfortunately, I should've called you sooner. I believe that you will figure it out soon. Even if you don't, I will send you a dream so we may speak once again. If you do though, expect a dream either way. Now, Twilight Sparkle is looking for you. I wish you good luck." Before I could say anything, she waved a hoof and I instantly closed my eyes in preparation for another teleportation spell. I wasn't wrong when I felt dizzy once more, as if I had crashed a million times, and I landed back in my room. I sighed as I levitated the saddlebag onto my back. I wondered if I should take a quill and some parchment, but decided that Twilight probably already put enough parchment into her saddlebag. I flew out the window in a cool style and landed in front of Twilight's castle, with the other girls already waiting.
Twilight said, a little cross, "Rainbow! You are five seconds late. Five seconds! We were going to be really late! Huddle together girls, we are going to teleport as somepony was late." Geez Twilight, it was five seconds! I rolled my eyes as I touched her hoof. In a few seconds, she teleported us into Canterlot's entrance. The guards immediately bowed to Twilight and I as they escorted us to the castle. I went to my room before deciding to go to where I found Cloud Chaser. I had thought he looked familiar in Ponyville as one of the ponies that was a weatherpony. Maybe he was there for a visit or something.
Twilight ordered, "As we saved ten minutes by teleporting here, let's meet in the throne room in ten. Do not be late." She directed her eyes at me, as if thinking that being late was the absolute worst thing in the world. I flew out of the window and into the village where I had found Cloud Chaser. Pegasi immediately flew over and bowed to me.
I said, "Hi everypony. I am wondering if any of you would like to be trained as one of my secret warriors. I am warning you though, you could die and payment might not suffice. It is absolutely okay if you do not join." Their wings ruffled a little.
I continued, "Those who would not like to join, please go home. The ones that want to try out, as I will not want a Pegasus who can not fly, will stay." At that, most of the Pegasi flew off, with only six remaining.
I nodded and smiled, "What are your names?"
The male of the far left started, "Dragon Tail, but most call me Dragon."
The next one continued, "Red Leaf, but most call me Leaf, or Red."
"Dust Feather."
"Turtle Dry, but I assure you about the fact that I am not as slow as a turtle."
"Glider. Just Glider."
"Tin Clouds."
I nodded, "Good. Now, follow me to the castle. I will be flying at a moderate pace so try to keep up." I lifted off the ground and they followed. I flew towards the palace at a moderate pace and surprisingly, they were in a V formation behind me, instead of being clustered together like foals. I landed in front of the gates and the guards bowed, letting me in. I quickly trotted to my hall.
I said, "Females go to this room and males go to this room. There should be three beds there and a refrigerator of free food. Thank you for coming. I will train all of you as soon as I am free. Do not sneak out." The ponies nodded and headed off to their rooms. I looked at the clock and saw that there was two seconds. I knew that I wasn't going to fly there in time so I gathered my energy and teleported onto my throne.
Twilight smiled a little, "Wow Rainbow, you made it right on time. You could come down from the throne now and join us for tea." I nodded, a little tired and flew there as quick as a could.
Rarity was lying down, facing downwards, "Princess Celestia, why did you call us here? Surely it is not to talk about the latest fashions?"
Celestia, who was sitting next to her, replied, "Actually, it is about Fancy Pants. He may be good at potions, but he did forget to cover up his tracks on who did the magic. As we speak, he is being asked questions under a truth serum. So far, we know that he is in a rebellion against me and that they are planning a war, starting in a month. Rarity, you are not going to have a foal. The potion only imaged one, as he wanted you to be physically incapable of doing much." Her horn glowed yellow and it blasted at Rarity. She yelped, a little unladylike, and sighed in relief afterwards.
I asked, "Why?"
Twilight sighed as her hoof reached her forehead and hit it, "Rainbow, have you ever read about what happened in the years of 1688 to 1729?" It really sounded familiar but I drew a blank. Hey! It's not my fault that the history teachers were as old and boring as Cranky Doodle Donkey.
Applejack nodded, "Ah sure do. Mah family was in it."
Rarity said, "I do remember such an event, darling."
Fluttershy whispered in her usual tone, "Ye-yes."
Pinkie bounced around, "Ooh! Do you mean the first rebellion against the princesses? Wanna hear a rap about it?"
Before Pinkie could start on her randomness, Twilight interrupted, "No, we are on a tight schedule and since you have already summarized the main idea to Rainbow, she should be able to guess how it relates to now."
I had no idea what she was talking about, but I nodded either way, "I'm not stupid, egghead."
Twilight challenged me, "Then what is it about?" Shoot. I drew a blank so I decided to repeat what Pinkie said,
"The first rebellion against royalty?"
"Close enough."
I said, "I got a strange dream yesterday." Quickly, I summarize the dream to them and they were left in shock.
Celestia said, "W-Well I guess that you are the Alicorn of the Skies, not the Princess of it. I never thought that there would be much of a difference. I suppose that your role is important for the current events then."
I shrugged, looking like I didn't care, "I guess."
Luna nodded, "Your role is going to be very important." At least she got over the 'thy' and 'thou' part by now. It's been a while.
Celestia sighed, "I'll talk to Fancy Pants. He is definitely part of this rebellion. For now, I must take my leave and plan a meeting with the Royal Guards. Twilight, your friends can rest in their rooms if needed. Rainbow, I'm sure that you have some duties to do. Luna, you need your rest for the night."
Luna said, "Your concern is touching, Celestia, but I have some business to do for the time being." She trotted out, her head high in the air.
I said, "Yeah. I've got to fly." I bolt out of the room and the Royal Guards ducked (not that they needed to) to get out of my way. I went to where my Dark Wings were resting and told them to meet me in the clouds. Unfortunately, I didn't have a training place ready for them. When they arrived, I examined each of them.
I began, "All right, Dark Wings. I know that you have all heard of the Wonderbolts and how they protect the princess and are show ponies. I should know. I was one of them myself. Unfortunately, due to having a horn, I am no longer one. So I am going to kind of recreate their idea, but naming them Dark Wings. I will train you and I will lead you. For now, I want all of you to fly three hundred laps around these clouds." I flew and compacted clouds together to sort of make a circle. They began flying. None of them were as fast as me, the Awesome Rainbow Dash, but they were good enough. Not all of them made it to three hundred though. Glider made it to two hundred and fifty one before basically collapsing on the ground. Tin Clouds made it to two hundred and sixty. The others made it to three hundred but were out of breath.
I sighed, "Not a bad start everypony. Now give me one hundred and fifty wing ups. Follow my lead." I began to doing wingups with them.
Author's Notes:
I'm doing a time skip after this chapter.
Sister Time
The next few weeks flew by in a blur. I found four unicorns willing to join my personal army. They were better at magic then I was so I didn't train them besides levitating targets that were moving from a distance for them to shoot. The Dark Wings surpassed the Wonderbolts eventually. I kept my personal army a secret though. Nopony needs to know besides them. A few earth ponies also joined my personal army, although not as many. That was fine though, my guards were trained to be the best of the best and I wouldn't have it any other way. The other princesses and my friends were too busy worrying but they tightened security all the same. Celestia's Intelligence Agency (CIA) never really found anything worthy to have a lead. It seemed like the rebellion was good at keeping things under wraps.
At this time, I was in my castle. Celestia and Luna had let a few Pegasi in the Royal Guards to guard my castle. There were a couple of servents too, but I treated them more as friends than anything. The hospital that I started had been flourishing. Cures had been found although they had been expensive. My room of bits continued to flow and I had given many to the hospital to continue. I would never allow it to collapse as it was still the only hospital around. Thankfully, more Pegasi had taken jobs there and I didn't need to pay them because the patients still had to pay in order to get in. I spent more time with Scootaloo, who was making bits with the others by finding cutie marks. Although she was young, she enjoyed it, so I never stopped her from making bits.
This very day, I landed in front of the club house, "Hey Scoots. It's your day off, right?"
Scootaloo nodded, "Yep. I'm going bungee jumping. Do you want to join?"
"Is that a challenge?" I smirked and she smirked back.
"Yep."
"You are on." We trotted to the place to go bungee jumping and there was a long line there.
Once I got in line, the pony in front shouted, "That's Princess Rainbow Dash! Let her in front of the line!" I still wasn't used to the Princess title, if I was to be honest. I also knew, by this point, that they only wanted to increase their business.
I said back, "Nah, I'll stay in line with my little sis." Scootaloo smiled at me. The line parted anyways and I sighed.
I said once more, "No. Stay in the line. I don't want to cut."
The pony in front of me bowed, "Princess Rainbow." That caused the others to bow too.
One pony asked, "Is that really your sister? As in you have the same parents?"
I replied, "Nope but she is practically my sister." I couldn't just lie and pretend that Scootaloo was my birth sister, no matter how alike we were and how much I treated her like one. None of the other ponies really wanted to interrupt me so they went back. It still wasn't the same though. All those whispers and glances at me as if I was the only abnormal one. Eventually, we got to the front of the line.
The pony said, "Princess Rainbow, you are free to go without payment."
I ignored her, "How much is it for both us us? Count my payment too."
"Uh... The total is sixty five bits for both of you." Scootaloo twitched and looked around. Judging by her body language, she had forgotten to bring bits. Meanwhile, I had an overload of bits. I gave her sixty five bits from my saddlebag and we were in. Saddlebags were like purses, but bigger. Purses were mainly used for unicorns as they had the magical horn thing. Others use saddlebags since it was easier. Most ponies carry saddlebags, even little foals. We trotted to the entrance and we put our equipment on.
Scootaloo sighed, "I'm sorry that I didn't bring bits."
I chuckled, "It's fine. Anything for my little sis, right?"
"I'll pay you back."
"I said that it's fine." We both jumped at the same time and we laughed when we bounced up and then down. When we were done, we put our equipment away.
I offered, "I'll bring you to your house. Where is it? I don't think that I have ever met your parents before."
She froze before saying, "No, it's alright. I'll manage."
"Come on Scoots. The least I could offer is to give you a ride. Don't feel that bad for taking away my nap time."
She didn't meet my eyes, "I live alone."
"Alone?"
"I live in the basement of the school. I had dug a tiny door and made a small place to sleep and eat."
I huffed, "That's where you've been living? Nope, you're staying with me now."
Scootaloo flapped her tiny wings, "Really?"
I ruffled her purple hair, "Of course. Come on." I flapped my wings and held her under my hooves and we went to the school.
I said, "Take everything that you want and go to the castle. I'll find a room and some things for you." Before she could reply, I zoomed off to my castle. The Royal Guards bowed and opened the large doors for me.
I said to them, "There's going to be a small filly named Scootaloo that's going to come here. Bring her to the throne room and make sure that nopony harms her."
A familiar voice said, "Rainbow? What's going on?"
I smiled, "It's nothing, Moondancer. My sister is going to come here and live with me. Do you mind finding her a room? I kind of need to get her some books and toys. Awesome stuff, ya know?"
"Uhh... Sure. I'll arrange her a room next to yours."
"Super." I dashed to my bits room and filled my saddlebags with bits. I flew out the castle without alerting the guards and I went to the toys store. Everypony there immediately bowed to me and I sighed internally. I grabbed toys and books on Daring Do before going to the counter. It was apparently three hundred bits in total. That wasn't a problem. I thought that I took around five hundred. I gave her the bits and left with all the toys.
The problem? There were too many toys and not enough space in the saddlebags. My first thought went to getting more room in my saddlebags by eating some food in there. Then I remembered that I didn't bring food because of the security check for bungee jumping. I wasn't going to leave two hundred bits on the floor though. My next thought went to magic. My magic was strong, obviously as all alicorns are, but carrying them without ripping them apart might be the next thing. I'll do it for Scootaloo though.
I focused on levitating the toys and they were surrounded by my magically aura. I flapped my wings and two of the toys immediately blew off, scattering fluff everywhere. Well, if I was an unicorn, perhaps I would have a cutie mark in blowing things up. I sighed as I continued flying and fluff continued to fly everywhere. By the time I got to the castle, I had five toys left in my levitación spell and a trail of fragments of toys behind me. I trotted in, folding in my blue wings and I continued to carefully carry the toys in. I went to Scootaloo's new room and set the toys in random places.
There was a knock on the door and it opened, "Your highness, the filly is in the throne room, waiting. We assure you that she is not harmed, although we did confiscate a pocket knife from her saddlebag."
I waved my hoof, "Great. I'll go there by myself." With that, I sped towards the throne room, my hooves lightly tapping the cloud floor.
Scootaloo was already there and jumped up at the sight of me, "Rainbow Dash! There you are."
A guard stepped forwards with a knife, "Princess Rainbow. I must arrest her for not calling you the proper title as she does not show respect."
I said dismissively, "Nah, it's fine. We're practically sisters. No arresting ponies for that, okay?"
The guard dipped his head and stepped backwards, "As you wish."
I nodded to Scootaloo, "Your room is set up."
She flapped her wings, "Cool. I bet that it's as awesome as yours." I let out a nervous chuckle because I was certain that there was a trail of fluff to her room. Luckily, she didn't notice the fluff nor how fake my chuckle sounded as we entered the room.
Scootaloo bounced on the bed before sitting down, "Rainbow Dash? That guard, you know, the one with the knife. He hit me, twice." She looked down as if I would undermine him just for it. I wrapped a wing around her back and waited,
Scootaloo continued, "Rainbow, I'm an orphan and many orphans are turned away from the shelter except for the rich ones who just don't want their child. My parents... They died. I don't have a passport or an ID. And that's prison for anypony who goes to Canterlot or gets stopped by a guard to see it. That's what happened to me. The guard wanted to see my passport."
I asked, confused, "Can't you just ask to make another one?"
"Yeah but Pegasi have different passports. On the first page is where every other passport is. You know, name, birthday, and a picture. The second page is different for Pegasi. We have something called a birth feather. When we are born we have feathers. They take one out and print it on the passport. It’s impossible to recreate.”
I smirked, pointing to my horn, “Well, I’m known for making the impossible possible. Sonic Rainboom, becoming an alicorn... They’re all dreams to some ponies.”
Scootaloo glanced at her cutie mark, “I wonder what would happen if the Crusaders tried to make the impossible happen. Wait, the Crusaders! I completely forgot about our meeting. Do you mind if I...?” I nodded and shooed her out, insisting that she should get to her friends.
Scootaloo jumped and smiled, "Thanks Rainbow! You're awesome."
I grinned as my ego was feed, "I know, I'm really cool. Now go on and have fun with your friends." She ran down the hallway, her tiny orange wings flapping quickly as she did so. The guards stared at her in their usual stare and I turned away. Now I needed to do something else so I wouldn't get bored. Normally, I would do some tricks in the air but now that I was an alicorn, I had to control my wingpower and not fly. I could fly short distances without a problem but when I was speeding somewhere, I would definitely make a Sonic Rainboom by accident. Maybe Twilight needed help with something? Her palace wasn't too far away and I could just trot down the clouds. Or teleport.
Twilight only told me to control my wings a few days ago, not my magic. Besides, I haven't tried teleporting since I've went to Canterlot to ponder about Rarity. Smirking, I lit my horn up and I concentrated on the palace and teleporting to the front door so the guards wouldn't jump in shock. That's what happened when I may or may not have flew through the window at Sonic Rainbow speeds. Let's just say that Spike wasn't overly happy when I knocked down the books in the library, which he had to clean up.
Once I appeared there without much of a headache, the guards immediately bowed, "Princess Rainbow."
I sighed, "Okay, whatever with the princess thing. I'm just going to go to the library. Can you get Twilight there?" I was getting sick with the princess business and whatnot. Without waiting or listening to a reply, I trotted into the library. After a few moments of staring, I saw Twilight gallop in, with a few bruises over her body as well as some blood.
A Note and Answers
Author's Notes:
Sorry for not updating. I've been way too busy these days and couldn't find the time. Also, I had forgotten my main plot but I had just reread my whole story and I will go from there. So if you see a character acting differently than before, it's from the lack of writing I've been doing. Also, a season has passed since I had written much so there isn't A school of Friendship nor does Spike have wings. However, this may happen sometime if I think that it fits into the plot.
I shouted, "Twilight! What happened?"
Twilight groaned, "Someone dropped a wagon on me from the sky."
I demanded, "Who is it?"
"I don't know, Rainbow," Twilight replied, "But this needs to go to the Princess."
I blinked, "You're a princess."
"I mean the other princesses. Spike? Spike! Where are you?" The little dragon ran in, out of breath.
Spike held a parchment, "Yes Twilight?"
Twilight smiled, "Dear Princess Celestia, a wagon dropped from the sky right on top of me. It had given me several bruises and nopony helped me after it dropped. I had loooked at the sky and nopony was there at all. From, Twilight Sparkle." Spike finished writing and blew the parchment out the window.
I rolled my eyes, "Didn't a lot of things drop onto you when Pinkie was having the big bursts of Pinkie Sense?"
"Yes, but that's different. At least I knew why is was dropped and who dropped it." There was a knock on the palace door and I opened the door with my magic. Spirit Runner, Fire Bright, Apple Watch, and Moondancer rushed in. Besides them were a few guards that I didn't know.
Twilight greeted Moondancer, "Hi Moondancer. What are all of you doing here?"
Spirit Runner bowed to me, "P-Rainbow, Canterlot is being attacked by unknown enemies. They call themselves the Snakes. The royal guards are trying to sort everything out but the enemy base is very strong. However, the battle is ceasing but Princess Luna has been wounded and is currently in the Canterlot hospital."
I flared my wings, "Why didn't anypony tell us sooner?"
"We only found out a couple minutes ago and we weren't sure where you were."
Twilight looked at the guards that I was unfamiliar with, "Search for Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity, and Applejack. I need you to bring here and to tell them about what has happened."
I said, "I'll see you there, Twi." I burst out the door (no, not the window) and I flew towards Canterlot, narrowly dodging Twilight's magical grasp. I heard Twilight sigh but nothing was going to stop me from being where the Princesses needed me the most. I knew that Luna was immortal but that doesn't mean that death wouldn't be a better option at times.
I saw many servants mopping up the blood on the ground and I saw guards patrolling. No one really looked up and that's the way I wanted it to be. I landed in front of the palace, surprising many ponies around.
They bowed, "Princess Rainbow."
I said, "Bring me to Princess Celestia." The guards exchanged glances before nodding. I followed one of the guards to the hospital suited for princesses. Ok, let's take a step back. I knew that there were royal carts for trains for princesses. I knew that princesses get better food. I never knew that there was a hospital just for princesses, but I shouldn't be surprised.
I walked in the room and the guards closed the door behind me, "Celestia, what happened?"
Celestia looked at me, a small bruise on her face, "Canterlot was invaded. Luna got hurt. I will stand guard here as some from my Intelligence Agency try to figure out what was going on. Rainbow, what are you doing here?"
I replied, "Worrying for your health. Celestia, I swear that I'm going to beat up that guy who hurt Luna." I flared my wings again but Celestia put a hoof that stopped me from booting out the door, possibly destroying the door in process.
Celestia said, "Rainbow Dash, I appreciate the fact that you are willing to risk it but as a princess, we need to calm our subjects, especially when one of the princesses are hurt. The media must be spreading and all of Equestria and beyond will know about this."
I snarled, "Screw being a princess. If somepony hurts my friends, then they're dead."
The bringer of the sun shook her head, "No, Rainbow Dash. The investigation will be a success."
"What are you? A fortune teller?"
"No, but I have hope in then. They are capable of doing things and I need your help in calming the ponies down."
I rolled my eyes, "Me? Calm ponies down? You obviously don't pay attention."
"Please Rainbow. I am barely holding it together for Luna. Just be a princess and be yourself," Celestia replied.
I grumbled, "Fine, but if something else happens, then I'm out of here and searching. First Rarity, then this." I flew out the door, almost crashing into my friends.
Twilight raced in, "Princess Celestia! What happened?"
Celestia said, "An attack on Canterlot. I need you and Rainbow to calm down the crowds while I'm here. The doctors may need me to help because alicorns are different than earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns. They're a combination of all three."
Applejack asked, "What about us, Princess?"
"You should go help. Thank you my little ponies." Twilight led us out of the room and she used her telekinesis to close the door softly. Even from my place, I heard ponies screaming on the top of their lungs, demanding answers and interviews and everything else in between. The guards in front of the palace were preventing them from going in but the mob had a new wave of energy as we stepped outside.
Twilight shouted, "Quiet!" The mood pressed forwards.
I shouted, "Quiet!" The crowd stopped and bowed from the power of my voice, exactly like when Luna used hers.
I continued using the Royal Canterlot Voice, "Everypony, calm down. This is exactly what the other side wants. They want to spread us apart and not allow us to be united in Equestria. As you guys probably know, there has been an invasion on Canterlot. Several teams of ponies are already investigating the issue. "
A random pony stepped forwards, "We have questions! And we want answers!" The crowd shouted things at us and we waited.
I finally snapped, "Shut up! We're still dealing with the attack. I'm sure that a couple newspaper ponies will want to schedule something so you guys will have to wait."
Twilight said, "We will accept interviews from the Canterlot press right now." We turned around and entered the palace once more. The ponies from the Canterlot press walked in, holding notepads.
One of the ponies asked, "Princesses, do you mind if we make this live?"
Twilight answered, "Of course we don't mind." They made us stand in front of a desk that held microphones. They set up the cameras and pointed it to us.
One of the ponies, the own that was going to interview us, smiled and began the show, "Hi everypony and welcome back to our live newsfeed. My name is Camera. Right now, we have Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie on live right now. Princess Twilight of Friendship and Princess Rainbow of the Skies are both here as well."
Camera turned to us, "What do you think of the invasion?"
Rarity answered, holding a hoof on her head, "Dreadful. It was simply dreadful."
Applejack answered, "It's a disaster." Camera looked at Twilight and I, hoping that we would answer. Personally, I felt like this was a waste of time.
Seeing that we weren't going to answer, Camera said, "What do you think could've happened?"
Twilight answered, "This is something that the detectives are still trying to figure out."
She prompted, "Any hints or clues?"
Twilight firmly said, "This is between the princesses and trusted members that can help. We do not wish to disclose information about that."
Camera winked, "Perhaps a little hint?"
"No. Trust me, this is for your own safety."
Camera looked at all of us, "How do you think this will affect the citizens in Equestria?"
Twilight looked straight at the camera (not the pony, the object), "I believe that this night will raise awareness to what has been going on. I want everypony to be safe from any terrors these ponies may cause. Everypony, remember to lock your doors and if you see anything, anything at all, tell any of the princesses, the police, and the royal guards. Thank you for listening."
Camera looked at me, "Anything else to add, Princess Rainbow."
I nodded, "Yes. Twilight, you're an egghead."
Camera hurried on, looking afraid to let Twilight and I argue, "Well, that's all for now. Thank you for watching. Until next time!"
I heard a voice from the studio room shouting, "Fade out picture, fade out audio!"
Another voice shouted, "Stop recording! That's a wrap everypony!" After everypony filed out, we ended up being alone once more.
Twilight raised an eyebrow, looking at me, "What was that all about?"
I asked back, "What was what all about?"
She answered, "Calłing me an egghead in front of all of Equestria!"
I smirked, "Chill Twi. You were getting kind of serious and I don't want everypony to have fear. Isn't that what the princesses told us to do anyways? You were making it sound as if an attack could happen to anypony at any moment!"
"That's because it's true, Rainbow!"
I said, "So far, it seems to be only targeting the Elements of Harmony and the princesses. There weren't any pony casualties today or Camera would've mentioned it."
Twilight said, "We don't know that, Rainbow."
"Aren't you a barrel fun of sunshine today, Twi."
"Rainbow!"
Pinkie interrupted, "Dashie is right Twi. You're getting all frowny and boring. C'mon! Let's party!"
Twilight asked, "What party is it this time?"
Pinkie blinked, "Not all parties need to have a purpose, Twi Twi. We just need to have a party to make ponies smile! It's all about fun."
"This is serious, girls," Twilight insisted, "We need to do things right away. Maybe Cadence should come."
Rarity said, "Darling, Candence has her own duties as well. She needs to protect the Crystal Empire. You can't simply expect her to drop everything just to come here."
Twilight sighed, "You're right... I'm going to get some rest now. I suggest that you all do the same." In response, we all turned to our separate rooms and headed off to sleep.
The first pony asked, "A success?"
The second pony bowed his head, "No Master. We were not able to kill any of the princesses."
The 'Master' responded, "I am very disappointed in you, recruit. I saw great potential in you and took you in. I hope that the princesses are injured at the least?"
The recruit answered, "Yes, Tyrant Luna is unconscious, Tyrant Twilight has a couple bruises and so does Tyrant Celestia. Tyrant Rainbow and Tyrant Candence have not been attacked yet."
"Tyrants... Is that what you call them in my midst, recruit? They are smart and we must never underestimate them. You have failed me once again recruit. I wanted all of them to be hurt, not one, not two, not three, but five. The new alicorn, the spies say, was an unexpected one. She must have a purpose besides being the Alicorn of the Skies, protecting the pegasi."
The recruit shook, "Yes Master. I'm sorry for underestimating them. I'm sorry! Please forgive me."
The other pony paced around, "You see, recruit. I recruit ponies based on their talents and their loyalties and their persistence in obeying me. I don't want to be a tyrant. I want ponies to be equal. I'm not Starlight Glimmer, the pony too weak to finish her greatest creation. She has astrayed from the true purpose of her cutie mark. I'm surprised that she hasn't started becoming cruel yet. You did see what happened when Diamond Tiara, the former enemy of the Cutie Mark Crusaders, used her talent in the wrong way."
The recruit nodded nervously and gulped, "Yes, it's such a shame that it had happened."
The other pony growled, "Starlight Glimmer almost defeated the alicorn and could've for certain, if not for redemption." The pony took a knife and draw a thin line of blood under the neck of the other pony.
The Master said, "You know Starlight Glimmer. I want you to recruit her to help our cause. Either that or... you will suffer and beg for death."
Tricks up my Sleeve
I opened my magenta eyes to the royal ceiling. Everything was too clear and nothing was messy enough for my tastes. The bed was comfortable, even more than I would’ve expected, but it couldn’t compete with my cloud bed. There were fruits and vegetables in the mini refrigerator there. As for why there was a mini refrigerator was a mystery to me but I set it down as another princess perk. I wondered if the non princesses had this also. I flew out of the room after brushing my teeth and taking a quick shower. No, I never brushed my mane nor tail, and I don’t care about doing either.
A few servants gasped at the sight of myself. They probably had never seen a messy princess who wasn’t wearing clothes. I wanted to shout that Twilight didn’t wear clothes on a daily basis but her mane was actually neat. I trotted halfway to the dining hall before becoming impatient. I flapped my wings and stopped right in front of the doors, where the royal guards, holding the same expression, opened the door and shut it behind me. Unsurprisingly, I seemed to be late. My other friends were already there, but Celestia and Luna seemed to still be in the royal hospital. Not so much Celestia, however, since she was waiting for Luna’s recovery.
Twilight waved at me, “Hi Rainbow! Did you have a good night’s rest?”
I nodded, “Yep.”
“It’s a morning buffet. You can choose from a variety of food to eat this morning.”
I said, “I know what a buffet is, Twi.” I flew over and used my hooves to balance a plate. I hated legit ain’t things or using my magic. I looked around for some hayburgers and fries, but was disappointed when neither food was there. I took random pieces of food and stacked it on my plate before flying back to my seat.
Applejack whistled, “Whoa. That sure is a lot of food.”
I shrugged, “I’m hungry.”
Rarity levitated her spoons and forks to eat her complicated pancakes, “Well, I for one, think that you should do things more eloquently, Rainbow Dash. How are you going to eat that mess?”
I said, “Like this!” I dug my face into the food and chewed on it. It was actually really good for some reason.
Applejack said, “That’s what Ah’m talking about, partner.” She dug her face into the food too. In response to our antics, Rarity rolled her eyes before continuing to eat her food slowly.
Twilight sighed, “We are going back to Ponyville today. There isn’t much we can do around here and I’m sure that there’s a lot of paperwork waiting for me.”
I sighed, my face dripping of food, “Moondancer is going to yell at me and I didn’t tell Scoots where I was going either. Paperwork sucks.”
Twilight grumbled, “You’re telling me. If you’re done eating, the train is waiting and it’s a two hour ride back. No flying Rainbow.”
I sighed, “Fine.” That’s what I got for ditching them to see the princesses I suppose.
Starlight Glimmer trotted around the castle, obviously bored. She had not received any more friendship lesson plans from Twilight to see what she would do. She already invented a couple spells throughout the night and couldn’t wait to show them to Twilight. However, she knew that Twilight’s mind would be on the invasion, not anything else specifically. She trotted out of the castle. Perhaps Trixie had a new trick that she was practicing and she needed some help or an audience.
“Starlight! Wait up,” Spike shouted from behind her, “There’s a letter for you that showed up in the mailbox.” The unicorn raised an eyebrow before levitating the letter and read it.
She gasped, “Sunburst is coming to town in a couple minutes!” Starlight teleported to the train station, just in time to crash into Sunburst.
Sunburst said, “Hi Starlight.”
“What are you doing here?”
“What? Aren’t you pleased to see me again? I discovered a new book that I wanted to share with you!”
Starlight smiled, “That’s great!” She was afraid that a new relic was in the old antique shop and that Sunburst was going to moon all over it for the next fifteen hours.
Trixie ran up the stairs, “Oh my Celestia! You guys are here? Trixie was searching the palace for you, Starlight. Trixie crashed into Spike and he told Trixie that you went to the train station. Trixie wants to show you a new trick that she has created.”
Starlight said, “Actually, Sunburst wanted to show me a new book but feel free to tag along. If you don’t want to, you could wait at the wagon. I’m sure that the book is interesting, but I promise that we’ll be at your wagon in less than one hour.”
Trixie sighed, "Trixie will wait." She trotted off the train station with a puff of smoke.
Sunburst smiled at Starlight, "Shall we?"
Starlight nodded, "We'll have to make it quick. Trixie isn't going to wait long."
"It's a simple but powerful spell, Starlight. I'm sure that Trixie wouldn't mind too much."
Starlight chuckled, "Well, let's go back to the palace and you could show me in the library."
Sunburst nodded, "That sounds like a good plan."
Starlight asked, "Are you planning on staying overnight? I'm sure that Twilight wouldn't mind if you stayed."
Sunburst shook his head, "No, I have some duties in the Crystal Empire. Princess Candence often wants me to ponysit."
Starlight nodded, "How is Flurry Heart?"
"Good. She stained the rug a couple days ago though." Starlight teleported them into the library.
Sunburst blinked, "Ok."
"Where's the book?"
"It's right here." Sunburst levitated his book out of his saddlebag and set it onto the table. He flipped to a page and Starlight read it quickly.
Starlight replied, "This spell seems simple. I'm sure that I've read it somewhere before. It says here that this is a summoning spell, right? Which means that I can make anything appear out of thin air, just as long as it exists?"
Sunburst nodded, "Yes and now add that to a duplication spell, a come to life spell, and a hypnotic spell and it should be very powerful in war."
"War?"
"I see the attack on Canterlot as a declaration to war. The princesses were getting targeted," Sunburst replied, "It's only logical to thinking that way."
Starlight thought about what Sunburst had said, "I can't believe that I hadn't thought of that. Still, none of the princesses are for battle but they are powerful. Who in their right minds could defeat five princesses? It took a long time just to constrain Flurry Heart from destroying the castle in the Empire, according to Twilight."
Sunburst said, "I'm sure that it is possible. If they are trapped in an eternal sleep, it is much worse than death for certain."
"Twilight is the Princess of Friendship and she has never failed. She will definitely offer a hoof of friendship if that was to be the case, like she did for me," Starlight retaliated.
The other unicorn sighed, "Starlight, not everything could be solved by friendship. I know that you feel like it because you were redeemed but life doesn't work that way."
"Let's just go to Trixie's wagon. I refuse to argue with you longer in this. I believe in Twilight Sparkle and I believe that she could fix it."
"Then why hasn't the map called for anyone to solve the problem?" Starlight refused to answer as they trotted out of the castle. The wagon was a few blocks around and they stayed silent during the entire time they were trotting. Trixie was in front of the wagon, looking bored.
Trixie said, "Finally Starlight! You're here. Sunburst, do you mind waiting somewhere else? This is something that Trixie is showing Starlight only. Trixie has a few kinks to figure out and Trixie wants her assistant to help." Sunburst looked at Starlight.
Starlight nodded in return, "Sunburst, why don't you go to that old antique shop again? Surely there is something to spike your interest."
Looking delighted, Sunburst galloped away, "Well, you know where to find me!"
Starlight turned back to Trixie, "So what is the agenda for today? What is planned?"
Trixie smirked, "The Great and Powerful Trixie has a show. But first, Trixie has to talk to you."
"Is something wrong?"
"I want to show you something, Starlight." Starlight blinked, clearly not expecting the change in speech.
Starlight nodded, "I trust you Trixie." Trixie looked away, thinking of what would happen, before nodding.
The magician said, "I found a magical stone while traveling around Equestria to perform. I want both of us to touch it and see where it leads us."
Starlight said, "That sounds awfully risky. Are you sure that you don't want me to check it out first?"
"Trixie has traveled upon it many times and it has not failed. But perhaps it will take us on a different journey if we go together. Do you trust Trixie?" Trixie asked Starlight.
Starlight put her hoof on the rock with a Trixie, "I trust you, Trixie."
Trixie smiled sadly before shouting, "Activate! I'm sorry Starlight..." The winds blew around them as they disappeared from view. They landed in a cave, where a pony in the back was doing something.
Trixie called out to the other pony, "Master, I have Starlight."
The other pony turned, the black hood still upon her, "That is not what I asked of you."
Starlight said, "Trixie, what's going on?"
The unknown pony said, "Come Starlight, and I will tell you. Trixie, you have yet failed me once more. I want you to wait here. Depending on Starlight's decision, you may live or die." Starlight followed the other pony nervously as Trixie sat down, her head bowed. Starlight was led to another's part of the cafe.
The pony said, "Starlight Glimmer. I have many names. You may call me Doomsayer."
Starlight replied, her voice sounding nervous, "Doomsayer... Heh heh. You promised me answers."
"Yes, but first, I must ask you some questions. Why did you create equality in the first place? Don't you dare say that it was because of your friend, Sunburst, because losing a friend never lets someone become bitter enough to ruin a whole town."
"There's nothing more to it. It's just because of losing a friend and not wanting it to have anypony experience it."
Doomsayer said, "Ponies always experience it, no matter what. Starlight Glimmer, your original philosophy is correct. In order for ponies to get along, everypony needs to be equal. Why does bullying occur? What can bullies bully about?"
"Their special talents and how great they are. The Cutie Mark Crusaders were bullied because of the lack of their cutie marks, if the stories are true."
Doomsayer nodded, "That is correct. In order to eliminate hatred, we must eliminate inequality. Earth ponies are good at making crops grow, which occurs naturally. Pegasi are for the skies and unicorns control elements around them. Alicorns are all three, aren't they? Don't they have a unfair advantage, especially with their immortality? Now, I don't know if Twilight, Rainbow, or Cadence are immortal but we all know that Celestia and Luna are."
Starlight bit her lip, "I... Never really thought of that. While you do make a point, they are for the good."
"No, and Nightmare Moon is a perfect example of that. You can not disagree that she wasn't an alicorn that's turned bitter. If she was a real alicorn, then I doubt that the Elements of Harmony could've shattered her form. If there was an evil alicorn, they could not be killed. That's why Celestia has a stone garden but even that could not contain all of the evils. Equality is the only way of true happiness, Starlight Glimmer, and you should know. Everypony was smiling in your village after all."
Starlight sighed, "But that wasn't real happiness."
"Yes, it was. You didn't cast a spell to make them agree with you, you didn't mind control them, all you did was remove their cutie marks and they were happy. I want equality. I want true happiness. Will you join me to help me in our mission?"
Check the Castle, Check the Grounds, Check with... Trixie?
We finally reached Ponyville. The ponies were offering food to us every few minutes, probably thinking that ponies would buy their food if royalty bought them. I declined every single time but Pinkie managed to clear the whole trolley and somehow paid for all of it. I could only tell how much the ponies wanted Pinkie Pie to go on the train again.
Twilight let out a deep breath as we all stepped out into the sunlight, "Ok everypony. I think that we deserve a rest. Let's meet at my castle in around an hour. Is that alright with everypony?" We all nodded one another but going to our separate paths. I flipped my wings and went into my castle. Moondancer was going to have to find a way up it seemed like, but there were stairs that led up to my castle from the ground.
Apple Watch greeted me, "Howdy Princess Rainbow. Glad to see you back."
I rolled my eyes, "Rainbow. It's nice to see you again, Apple Watch. Where are Spirit Runner and Fire Bright?"
Apple Watch chuckled, "Ain't glad to see me, are ya, Pr-Rainbow? Spirit and Fire are patrolling. Ah can call 'em over if ya want me to."
I nodded, "Yes, do it." Watch ran out of my sight before coming back with the others after a couple of minutes. They all bowed again, with small smiles on their lips.
I rolled my eyes again, "You guys do know that you don't need to do that, right?"
Spirit smiled, "We know Princess Rainbow, but Princess Celestia prefers to have guards, even personal ones like us, to not have a bond with the princesses. This would be for safety purposes."
I declared, "Too bad because if your backs are at risks, I'm saving you guys too."
"No Princess," Fire said, "We can't have that. There's a reason that we are the guards."
I replied, "And there's a reason why I'm the Element of Loyalty. I would never let you guys hanging, even if you are supposed to protect me."
"You can't save everypony and you know that."
"But the least I could do is try." I levitated the doors open, "C'mon, let's go and hang around in the castle."
Fire shook her head, "Princess, I'm afraid that we have our duties. There is extra security due to the invasion and as the commanders of your armies, we need to keep all of them in order." I sighed and flew in by myself. The Dark Wings were hopefully ready to hang out with me.
After a couple minutes of flying around, I found Dragon Tail outside, shouting, "Ok everypony! That's enough practice. Let's head in and-"
Dragon stopped as he saw me and immediately bowed, "Princess Rainbow Dash!"
I sighed, "Just Rainbow."
He nodded, "Just Rainbow. Do you need something?"
"Nope. I just came for a fly."
"Oh, we were hoping on starting some sort of routine for the upcoming war."
I bit my lip, "I'm sure that Twilight can handle the things with the Elements."
"Then did you form the Dark Wings?"
"To become the best flyers, to out maneuver the Wonderbolts, and to be a super mega battle pegasi."
"You're the captain. Make a routine. Practice."
I nodded, "Ok, Dragon. I'll check what each pony's speciality in flying is and create something. Keep up the training. I'll check on you after I-" A letter popped in front of me and I caught it with my hoof.
I opened it and read in my head:
Rainbow,
This is Twilight. I'm sorry for contacting you like this but this is urgent. Starlight is missing and Trixie is also missing. Her wagon is still here. Sunburst says that he'll tell us where he lost saw them when you and the other girls come. We're in the castle library. Be prompt.
From,
Twilight Sparkle
I looked up from the letter and sighed, looking at the team, "Sorry, Starlight is missing. I've got to go help find her. Dragon, you're in charge until I'm back. Keep going with the exercises. If I don't come back before dark, then you're going to have to finish the practice at a suitable time."
Dragon sighed, "Ok Cap. Back to training everypony!" I flew out of the palace swiftly and crashed into Twilight's library from her window.
Twilight barely looked up from the book, "Hi Rainbow."
I chuckled nervously, "Sorry Twi. I'll try to fix it." I stared at the shattered pieces and concentrated on making it a window again. The pieces floated up and sorted with each other and I levitated it to where the window was prior. I released it there and the window shattered again.
Twilight said, ignoring my failure with fixing her window, "As you all know, Starlight is missing. Sunburst?"
Sunburst said, "Trixie wanted to show Starlight some new move and they sent me to the antique shop so they could plan it out. After all, Starlight is the magic assistant in her show so I thought that it was only fair for me to give them time to set it up. After an hour or so, I decided to check on them and they weren't there. I checked everywhere. The town. The library. Everything!"
Pinkie Pie smiled, "Ooh! Hide and seek! I love hide and seek." She looked around, lifting the pots and the chairs, looking for Starlight as if anypony besides her could fit in there.
Pinkie put a hoof under her chin, "Ooh. She's good." Suddenly, Pinkie's body shook as if there was an earthquake.
Twilight gulped, "Was that a doozy?"
"Yep! That sure was a doozy," Pinkie cheerfully answered as her body shook again.
I asked, "Where is it going to happen?"
"Underground!" I groaned and folded my wings. Underground was a Pegasus’s nightmare. Most Pegasi are claustrophobic due to the fact that they weren’t free to fly or anything in a tight space.
Fluttershy said, “Un-Un-Un-Underground?”
Pinkie smiled and said in a sing song voice, “Yessire!”
Twilight asked, “Where underground?”
Applejack sighed, “Those gosh darn Diamond Dogs must’ve taken her.”
“But the Diamond Dogs don’t even know who Starlight is! It would be plausible if it was Rarity since she did annoy the dogs or one of us.”
I said, “Let’s ask Trixie. She saw Starlight last.”
Sunburst shook his head, “I haven’t seen Trixie either. Believe me, she would be here if I have seen her at all.”
Twilight decided, “The Diamond Dogs are the only creatures that live underground that has a grudge on ponies. Let’s check them out and see if they are keeping our friends hostage?”
I blinked, “Since when have we become friends with Trixie?” Twilight gave me a look before shaking her head and trotting out of the room, the rest of us following. We eventually reached the place where Rarity had been caught by the dogs a really really long time ago.
Spike shouted through one of the hole saw on the ground, “Hello?!” My wings flared up as I heard digging sounds, ready to attack if needed.
A dog growled from the hole, “What are pony and dragon doing here? No stealing gems...”
Twilight cleared her throat, “I am Princess Twilight Sparkle and I have reason to believe that you are holding my friends hostage in there. As the Princess of Friendship, I demand that you let us underground safely and lead us to them.”
“No hold pony in prison,” the dog growled back, “And pony no have control over us.”
“I will do anything to find my friends,” the princess warned, “This includes forcefully going down there. I suggest that you let us in with peace.”
Rarity batted her eyelashes, “I hope you remember the last time I was in there? I was alone, a damsel in distress, but I made it out. It would be absolutely lovely to see the place again and for return for checking out your caves... I’ll help you mark around two wagon full of gems.”
The dog hesitated and nodded, “We agree with terms. Follow me.”
As they headed down, Fluttershy whispered to Rarity, “If you want, I’ll keep you company in these caves after we search it thoroughly.”
Rarity shook her head, “Darling, your animals need you. Sassy can help run my shops while I’m not there. Besides, I can do the job alone.” I saw Twilight beam at her as we continued down the tunnels. The smell of the air became worse and worse as we traveled deeper. The dog finally stopped in front of prison cells,
“Satisfied?”
Twilight casted a spell and sighed, “No sign of life in these tunnels. I guess that the dogs weren’t the ones that had captured Starlight and Trixie.”
I groaned, "Can we get out of here? All these tunnels are making the air stuffy."
Twilight shook her head, "No. If there is an unicorn here, there could hide Starlight and Trixie easily."
"Which unicorn would want to hide ponies here?"
Pinkie squealed, "Ooh! Guessing game! Hmm... Is it-"
I interrupted, "Pinkie, we're on an important mission right now. No time for guessing games."
"Awww..."
Twilight sighed, "You're right Rainbow. They aren't in these tunnels. We should go back to Ponyville and look for clues." The five of us went back to Ponyville as Rarity stayed to find gems for the Diamond Dogs.
When we finally got back to the throne room, we sat on our respectful chairs. Before anypony could say a word, there was a giant flash and Trixie appeared in front of us.
Trixie panted, "Trixie and Starlight needs help. It is all Trixie's fault."
Twilight asked, "What happened, Trixie?"
Trixie looked down, "Trixie worked for the enemy, the Rebellion. Trixie brought Starlight there. Leader wants to recruit Starlight and will kill Trixie and Starlight if Starlight doesn't agree."
Twilight blinked, "Can you lead us there?"
"Trixie can." We huddled together and there was a giant flash of light as we got there. It was dark. I lit up my horn to see a plain cave. I shuddered. I hated caves. Meanwhile, Fluttershy was shivering, feeling the effects also. I lifted her up and wrapped my wing around her.
Just in time to hear Starlight say one word, "Yes."
A maniac laugh rose up from inside the cave, "Welcome Starlight, to the Rebellion."
"What do I need to do?"
"I want you to spy for us. You are the student of friendship after all. Spying on the princesses and their friends should be rather easy."
"Sounds good."
"Gather any information that can be useful. Go out and teleport with Trixie to the main land. I must speak to the highest position ponies in here, the ones who have stayed for a decade." Trixie quickly teleported the five of us back to the land as she disappeared, presumably to teleport Starlight here. They appeared a few minutes after.
Starlight said, "Sorry I was gone. I had to check something really quickly. Sunburst showed me a spell."
I raised my eyebrow, "Really? Can I see it?"
"Since when were you interested in magic?"
Sunburst interrupted from a corner of the room where he was waiting for the girls to return, "Since I wasn't with you, it would be highly strange for me to show any such spell to you, Starlight. We were actually searching for you."
Starlight hesitated, "Searching... For me? Did something happen?"
I pushed my nose to hers, my eyes threatening, "You bet that something happened!"
Twilight levitated back me back to my sit, hissing into my ear so only I could hear, "Undercover, Rainbow Dash."
The purple alicorn grinned at her pupil, "Starlight, what Rainbow means is that we went through some trouble trying to find you. We thought that the Diamond Dogs had taken you since I know that you go there with Trixie from time to time. Don't worry about it. Why don't you take the day off with Sunburst and Trixie?"
Starlight hesitated, "You sure, Twilight?"
"I'm sure," she replied, "Besides, Sunburst doesn't visit that often so you two should enjoy your time together. Rainbow and I have some princess duties and the others have already volunteered to help out."
Applejack raised an eyebrow, "We did?"
"Of course you did. Did you just forget about it?"
As AJ opened her mouth to tell the truth, I said, "Oh yeah! Right. I totally forgot that I have a meeting with my... uhh... royal cooks! I need to borrow Pinkie and AJ. That all right with you, Twi?"
Twilight nodded, her gratitude showing through her eyes, "Yes, that would be splendid."
Starlight sighed and went out the door, "Thanks Twilight! I'm going to go now." Sunburst and Starlight both went out the door, chatting to one another like old buddies.
I gave a sigh of relief, "Whew. That was close. I think that Starlight knows that something is up."
Twilight nodded, deciding to take charge, "Rarity, Pinkie, and I are going to investigate using Trixie's teleportation machine. I will study it tonight and see if I can make a copy and see what I can do. It should be quite easy. After that, I will offer a hoof of friendship to whichever pony it is. Hopefully, they will realize their mistake and decide to become friends with us. It's the perfect solution! Oh and your job, Rainbow, is to distract her with Applejack. I assume that you have Princess things tomorrow?"
I chuckled nervously, "Uhhh... Moondancer probably made the list already. I kind of left her in charge of my events and whatnot. Eh, she'll be fine. Besides, it's not the end of the world if I don't show up. I'll just ask to send an apology letter with some sort of excuse."
The princess sighed, "I suppose we're lucky for Moondancer then. Let the plan... begin."
A Last Rainboom
The next morning...
I called out to Starlight in the Castle of Friendship, "Yo Starlight. Twilight decided to have your friendship lessons with me while she has something planned with Princess Celestia or Luna or who knows what. I dunno. Anyways, I give you my blessing to walk on clouds for the next 24 hours."
Starlight yawned, brushing her hair, "Sure. I suppose that different perspectives, such as from a Pegasus view could be a good stance for learning."
"You're eating breakfast there too. Twilight asked me to show you some of the culture too and I don't feel like disappointing her." Without her permission, I used my magic to teleport both of us in front of my castle. My head spun but I felt Starlight's reassuring leg on me and the dizziness eventually faded away. The guards stood there with spears pointed at Starlight, probably thinking that she had drugged me.
I shook my head, "Stay down. This is Starlight, the student of friendship. She will be allowed in my castle." As the doors opened, a blur of orange barreled towards me before giving me a huge hug.
"Rainbow!" Scootaloo said excited, "I just had the best time with the Crusaders. We went to the gem tunnels that Rarity had shown us a few weeks ago.”
Starlight raised an eyebrow, her expression confused, “What about the Dia-“
I interrupted, “That’s awesome! I’m sorry Scoots but I have to do some boring princess business with Starlight over here. Can we talk some other time?”
The Pegasus sighed but nodded, “Fine. I’ve gotta go to this meeting anyways. Ooh! Maybe we’ll discover how to fight a manticore this time! Or help Fluttershy!” Before I could say anything, the speedy pony zoomed off.
I said to Starlight, "It was Maud's place. Perfectly safe. Anyways, Applejack is waiting for us in the room. Perhaps we can go in?"
The unicorn nodded, "Sure, I don't want to keep anypony waiting." She trotted into the dining room and I followed her, closing the door with my magic. I levitated the plates to the right ponies, hearing the sizzling pancakes. There was a small kitchen on the side of the table and chairs.
Applejack nodded at us, "Howdy Starlight and Rainbow. Enjoy your breakfast."
Starlight ate some of hers while I doused mine with syrup, "Don't mind if we do."
The earth pony chuckled as she turned the fire off, "Ah don't mind. Don't worry. Ah know how hungry RD could be so Ah made a bit more than I usually do."
I said with a faint amount of humor mixed in with a light teasing, “Not my fault that you make so much anyways.”
Applejack chuckled, “Ya know ya love it. What do you think, Starlight?”
Starlight gave her a smile, “I might have Dash’s appetite today. More?” Applejack refilled both of our plates and we quickly ate.
Starlight asked, “So what royal duties do you have today?”
Luckily, Moondancer came in and she sat down, “Hi Prin-Rainbow. And you are...?”
Starlight gave her a quick smile, “I’m Starlight Glimmer.”
Moondancer arched an eyebrow, “I didn’t know that you were coming here. Did I miss something on the schedule?” Immediately, she used her telekinesis to levitate a scroll up and scanned it.
Starlight shook her head, “No, Rainbow asked me to help her with some princess duties and Twilight thought that it would be good for me to check out what a princess does, after that cutie map trip I took and all.”
I nodded, “Yeah, she’ll be with me. So, what’s the first thing on the list?”
Moondancer said, “A quick trip to the Wonderbolts. Princess Celestia had personally requested it.” I sighed but nodded, knowing that Celestia would not allow me to skip the Wonderbolts forever, even though I didn’t really like them anymore.
Starlight patted my back, “Don’t worry Dash, I’ll blast them if they try to hurt you.”
Applejack shook her head, “Now now, Starlight, you know that you shouldn’t go to your magic so quickly. Let Dash handle. It and if definitely needed, go in.” Starlight sighed but nodded, knowing that trying to fight against Applejack was useless.
I asked, “Anything specific with them?”
Moondancer said, “Well, Princess Celestia said something about an upcoming fight and wanted you to help them with a plan since you’re pretty good with flying techniques and the best way to survive in midair.” I smiled when I thought of when I had to push Twilight from a helicopter. Now that was definitely a close one for sure, even though it was too close for my liking and definitely way too close for Twilight’s.
I nodded, “Okay, that’ll be easy enough. Is it a private audience?”
“Yes,” she affirmed, “With only Captain Spitfire.”
I asked, “What’s after that?”
“You need to check on the hospital that you helped create. All of the nurses and doctors have been trained per your orders but as a princess, you need to check the largest hospitals from time to time.”
I groaned, “I can’t tell anything. Is there like some magic scanner?”
“Yes.”
I looked at Starlight and Moondancer, “Can you two take care of that then? Like double check or something? I don’t want any pony dying.”
Starlight nodded, “You can count on us!”
“Awesome! I’ll be there as soon as I can then for stamps of approval or whatever.”
Moondancer nodded, “Okay. Don’t forget to wear your crown for the duties.” I levitated my crown and put it on my head.
I turned to Moondancer again, “I’ll be heading off but grab like two hundred to three hundred bits and give it to the hospital. For this one time, the funding will come from here just to keep it running.”
“Yes Rainbow.” Then, i stretched my wings and flew to the dreaded place.
Wonderbolt’s Academy
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE RECRUITS,” the familiar bossy voice screamed at the terrified ponies who wanted to get in the Wonderbolts, “DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES OR NOT?! You know that the Wonderbolts don’t accept ANYPONY or we would all be feather brains.” I landed next to Spitfire and nodded to her. The trainees started whispering to one another, no doubt wanting to talk to me.
Spitfire shouted and I quickly covered my ears with my wings, “NOW GIVE ME ONE THOUSAND LAPS.” Spitfire and I walked to her office. The captain closed off everything and double checked before sitting across from me.
I asked, “Why did you call me here?”
“Princess, the Wonderbolts are the backup plan to the Elements of Harmony. We must have a formation plan and seeing how you know the tricks that Pegasi can do, there is no doubt that we will defeat the Rebellion.” My personal Pegasus army was already training on its own so I wasn’t exactly that worried.
I nodded, “What do you have so far?”
“Usually, we become a distraction and dodge. Then, the Elements finish it.”
“I thought you were the backup plan for the Elements.”
“We are.”
“So you wait on your hooves for the Elements to get back on? What type of plan is that?”
“The one Princess Celestia gave us, since she believes in second chances.”
I sighed, “Could the waiting list fight as well?”
“No.”
“Fine. The best thing Wonderbolts are... are the speed and agility. Nothing else. You guys are also pretty lucky with some of the tricks that broke down in the past years. Yes, I read a book. I think that the best thing would be a sneak attack. What weapons do you use?”
Spitfire hesitated, “...None...”
I sighed, “What kind of army are you?” Spitfire, noticing that it was a rhetorical question, didn’t reply to my answer.
I ordered, “Fine. If you’re so use to just distracting, I want you to at least throw knives at the ponies. Not every problem would work with a hoof of friendship but Twilight would never accept that.”
“Yes Princess.” I flew away, deciding to not go with the Wonderbolts. Besides, I had an army to rally up and I was not going to stop doing so.
Moondancer intercepted me after I told the captain of my guards what to do, “Pr-Rainbow, may I speak to you?”
“You don’t need to ask for permission,” I replied, stifling a sigh.
Moondancer nodded, “Sorry, habit. Anyways, why is Starlight Glimmer here? I don’t believe you when you should that she’s going to help you.”
I sighed but didn’t tell Moondancer the truth, since in all the Daring Do books I read, something always happened when the pony told another one their plans, “Twilight wanted her here for something. I’m not sure what so I just decided for her to be on duty.”
“Okay. By the way, the hospital needs you to sign this.” I used my shaky levitation magic to zap my signature on it. I had learned the spell using one of Twilight’s books. Even though my signature looked choppy, it seemed legible.
Moondancer nodded, teleporting the scroll somewhere else, “Twilight says that she’s taking Starlight for a while right after you left, by the way. She says that you can join if you want.”
I ordered, “I’ll go. Moondancer, rile up my personal guards. Apple Watch is to protect the Apple family just in case. I don’t want Applejack to die and she’s pretty stubborn anyways. My other personal guard will make sure that nopony around here is hurt.”
“Yes Prin-Rainbow.” She teleported away and I flew to Twilight’s castle. The air rushed through my mane as I soared. I was almost at Rainboom speeds but slowed myself in time. I wasn’t exactly sure what would happen to the castle if I did a Rainboom on it but I was pretty sure that Twilight wouldn’t be happy. Hey, it’s not my fault that my physics teacher wasn’t interesting.
Twilight was waiting there, looking worried, “Rainbow, Starlight is not on our side. And the other side didn’t accept our hoof in friendship after I’ve been considerate. This hasn’t really happened before...”
I sighed, “Twilight, why did you tell the pony in charge about Starlight?”
“Yes. Oh no, was I not supposed to? Maybe Starlight is really on our side.”
“Tell me what happened.”
Twilight figured out the magic behind the magic quickly. It only took two cross references when she had been expecting much, much more. She replicated the magic to teleport herself to the cave with Starlight, Trixie, Sunburst, and Spike.
She had stayed silent and the five of them crept into the cave only to meet a ward that would bind the pony in chains.
Starlight shouted, “Twilight!”
Twilight shouted back, “Starlight!”
Trixie yelled, “Ahhhhh!” Sunburst used some stage magic to get himself out and quickly helped the rest of the ponies out. Trixie got herself out.
Twilight took a deep breath, “Thanks Sunburst.” She had never expected stage magic to be useful even from what Starlight and told her what Trixie had done in the Changeling Hive.
Trixie said, her voice shaky, “Trixie knows that Boss is behind that door.”
Twilight knocked on the door, “Hello?” The door opened quickly and the ponies stepped in. The door closed behind them and a pony stepped out. Starlight gave a small, almost unnoticeable nod. However, Twilight’s analytical eyes had caught her motion.
The princess smiled at the new pony in front of her, “Hello. I’m Twilight, the Princess of Friendship.”
The pony nodded, “Ponies know me as Doomsayer, tyrant.”
“What grudge do you have against Equestria?”
Doomsayer snarled, “Celestia ordered the execution of my parents and tortured them a lot before killing them. I know that history focuses on the good parts of the princesses so you don’t know what happens.”
“I’m sorry she did that... But you two can talk. I’ll can make sure that she doesn’t execute you or anything.”
“Don’t even try to give me the hoof of friendship. Trixie, you have failed me. Friendship doesn’t matter!”
“Aren’t you loyal to something then?”
“I’m loyal to killing, stopping the acts of tyrants, my soldiers, and my own friends. Now get out tyrant. You’re lucky that I’m in a good mood.”
Twilight pleaded, “Can’t you see that friendship around everypony instead of a group is better? Let go of your anger and revenge, Doomsayer. Welcome friendship into your heart.”
Doomsayer turned to Starlight, “What do you think?”
Starlight shrugged, “Friendship didn’t teach me anything besides that ponies are awful.”
Twilight gasped, “Starlight? Y-You didn’t learn anything?”
“I still believe in equality, Twilight, and I’m sorry... I just can’t.”
Twilight sighed, her ears flat, “Starlight, I thought I helped. Why didn’t you tell me?”
Starlight said, “You’re an alicorn Twilight and you had way more strength than I did. I would’ve lost the battle either way...”
Doomsayer said, “Go tyrant or I will kill you.” Twilight gave another glance at Starlight, who was getting ready to fire a spell. Knowing that even she couldn’t win against armies upon armies, she teleported back.
I raised my eyebrow, “Twilight, I know that it’s pretty hard to accept but not everything can be won by friendship. If it was that easy, Celestia and Luna would’ve won every single battle. Okay, fine, maybe not Luna but a Celestia.”
Twilight flapped her wings, “I’m the Princess of Friendship.”
I thought about what Destiny had told me and sighed, “You’re the Alicorn of Friendship just like Cadence is the Alicorn of love. Princess is more of... more of a place. Princess Cadence, Alicorn of Love, of the Crystal Empire. Princess Twilight, Alicorn of Friendship, of... Well, you don’t really have land really. Princess Celestia, Alicorn of the Sun, of Equestria. Princess Luna, Alicorn of the Moon, of Equestria. Destiny told me that I would know who I am and that I became a princess too late.”
Twilight asked, “What are you getting at, Rainbow?”
I sighed, “I must be... Princess Rainbow, Alicorn of War, of the Skies.”
“What?! War is not the answer.”
“Twilight, I’ve always wanted to join the Wonderbolts and you’ve taught me that it’s a small army. I would’ve been in this battle either way. It has to be my destiny to be a princess of war.”
Twilight sighed, “I don’t like it.”
I flew up, “It’s okay Twilight. Alicorns are immortal-“
“Not in war!” Twilight shouted, “We don’t age much but I know that alicorns can die in war. In fact, everything suggests that alicorns can die in war. Otherwise, nothing would be able to penetrate our bodies!”
I sighed, “Twi-“
“No Rainbow! You are not leaving me.”
“Twi-“
“I don’t care what you say. Friendship has to be the key.”
I shouted, “Twilight! There’s a rebellion and there’s war. There’s no other option.”
Twilight took a huge breath, “What about the Elements of Harmony?”
“Do you really think that’ll work? Doomsayer said that they have friends and are loyal to the military.”
“Still, it’s worth a shot?”
“Fine but if that doesn’t work...” Twilight and I locked eyes before nodding.
Applejack coughed a little, “Excuse me? If Dash goes to war, then Ah’ll go and fight those rebels off.”
Rarity sighed, “So will I.”
“And I,” Fluttershy said in a bold voice.
“Me! Me! Pick me!” Pinkie squealed.
Twilight nodded, “Of course we will go.” I smiled and nodded.
[now third person]
A trumpet roared and we activated the elements quickly.
Twilight shouted at Doomsayer, “Friendship is the key to everything!” The six shot a rainbow laser at Doomsayer and they weren’t affected at all.
Doomsayer lunged at Rarity, "I have friends! They just happen to not be you." Rarity created a small shield in front of her that was easily penetrated by Doomsayer's next blade of magic. Before the pony could do anything else, Rainbow shouted,
"Plan A!" She wished that she had a better name for a plan but wasn't able to think of one during that time. The other princess were busy going through the other ponies that were fighting. However, those ponies were rather skilled and a couple of them traveled underground to go in their magic shield and attack. If Rainbow wasn't fighting them, she would've been rather impressed with the strategy. But since their strength was on the ground...
Rainbow shouted, "Wonderbolts, bring them to the air!" The Wonderbolts were pretty agile by dodging the weapons but everypony knew that they couldn't last forever. The unicorns levitated the ponies into the air and kept them there as the unicorns and Earth ponies either knocked them out or killed them. After all, it was war and if they didn't do anything, then they would've lost. Twilight was hesitant at first but even her logical brain had to tell her what she had to do.
Fluttershy flew to the sky shakily and glanced for any ponies popping out. She let out a quiet scream as she saw Doomsayer shouting orders.
Doomsayers screamed, "Unicorns attack!" The unicorns quickly began shooting different lasers at the pegasi. Rainbow was pretty high in the air since she was making sure that everypony in the opposing army were being held. When she saw the troops starting to shoot laser beams, she hoped that Twilight would be able to hold a shield. However, some unicorns popped out of the ground and knocked Luna unconscious. Rainbow bit her lip, not sure how to handle this situation. She saw Fluttershy starting to fly upwards and Rainbow opened her mouth to tell Fluttershy that there was a stunning beam going towards her.
Fluttershy was concentrating on getting to Rainbow to tell her about Luna, not knowing that Rainbow already knew. Suddenly, there was an impact on one of her wings and her body was frozen. She tried to let out a scream but couldn't.
Rainbow yelled, "Fluttershy!" Rainbow suddenly remembered Celestia telling her that her Rainbooms were really really dangerous. But hey, it was a war, wasn't it? The Alicorn of War dipped down and began creating an arc, allowing one Rainboom to occur. Pressing hard so Fluttershy would not hit the ground and so they could win the war, Rainbow concentrated on going even faster and focus her barrier of Rainboom more or the opposing side.
And...
And...
And...
Boom! A whoosh of power was created as she finally caught Fluttershy and released the stunned Pegasus next to a group of medics.
But... too fast, too fast. She knew that she couldn't stop soon enough and she couldn't diverge from the ground. Spinning and closing her eyes, she waited for the impact. And finally, it came quickly.
Twilight shouted, "Rainbow!" The alicorn dove after her and found Rainbow unconscious but not dead. However, the wing that was used to put the pressure on Doomsayers was hanging off. The other wing, the one on the left seemed in tact. Twilight didn't really care about that as she levitated her friend up.
[Back to Rainbow's POV]
Beep...
Beep...
"Patient status?" A voice reached my ears.
Another one said, "Wing properly removed. Patient should be waking up any second." I opened my eyes, seeing a hazy view.
Pinkie's voice floated next to my ear, "Eek! You're awake!"
I asked, "What happened?"
Twilight said nervously, "W-We won thanks to you but... Rainbow, your wing... it's gone." The implication was clear. I would never use my wings to fly away.
It was a victory against Doomsayer as well as my own loss.
To sum it up:
Being an alicorn of war absolutely sucked.
Author's Notes:
Yep, the story is over.
I wasn't exactly sure how to end this but I didn't want to drag the long overdue story out... I'm not planning on an epilogue YET but I might do one since alicorn Rainbow without a wing might be an interesting idea.
