Chapter 1: 1: Journal (Part I)

Load Full Story Next Chapter

THIS IS THE JOURNAL OF JAY A. PARK, STARTED ON THE DATE OF FRIDAY THE 28TH OF AUGUST 2015.

28th of August: I've never kept a journal before, but I feel that the start of college is as much an occasion to start a journal as anything else. If anything interesting happens, I'll be sure to record it here. I'll do my best to update this weekly! A Bachelors degree in Engineering, here I come!

4th of September: College. Is. Hard. It's the end of the first week, and I already have loads of physics homework, flashcards I have to make for chemistry, and an online thing for calculus. But, this journal isn't for detailing my assignments! It's for the interesting things that happen! Like someone puking in chemistry. Well, it was more nasty than interesting...

18th of September: I wish I could write in here more, but there's not much interesting and a whole lot of sleeping and homework and studying. I know I wanted weekly updates, but it takes too much time.

25th of December: Happy Holidays! I'm not dead! Nothing cool to report.

2016

6th of September: Wow. I completely forgot about this journal since last December! Well, I'm a sophomore now, and I have even more work and studying to do. So, probably not gonna update this journal any time soon.

2017

29th of January: Oh my god I think I found the girl for me. She's sweet, cute, and actually lives near where my parents live. Oh, I also managed to rent this small house near campus, and I'm living there now. It's weirdly priced at $1000 per semester per person, and it's just me. As long as I keep the carpets clean, I'm all good. It's just one floor, with an attic space. I got my very own bathroom, too! Hopefully all of this can impress Maria. That's the girl's name. I really really hope it works out, 'cuz I really think that I like like her. Will update after she comes over.

4th of February: The girl has a boyfriend back home. No one that I know. She said that we could still be friends, so I guess I'll try to do that. Maybe they'll break up? If they don't, it's ok too I guess, 'cuz I want Maria to be happy. At least she liked my new place.

29th of May: I got a job pushing carts at an All-Mart. Having spending money is good. I am now able to afford a few cheapo computer games on Steam.

8th of September: I need to write this all down to get my thoughts straight. I have what can only be described as a miniature pastel pony sleeping in my bed. Or I'm going crazy. I hope I'm not crazy.
So, earlier. I was done with classes for the day, and I was heading for the bus stop because I was feeling too lazy to walk the three miles to my house. You'd think that there'd be a bus stop on campus or something so that students don't have to walk as far, but nooo. I have to walk through downtown to get to the bus, just about a half-mile from campus. On my way, I usually pass a few convenience stores, and a group of apartment buildings with honest-to-goodness alleys. Well, I was passing by one of these spaces between the buildings when a small group of teenagers walked out, talking together about the weird dog that they had just seen. I looked back, and saw no "weird dog" with them, so I turned on my heel and headed into the alley. There was in fact a weird dog-like thing, about the size of a corgi. It had longer fur on it's head, like hair, and a tail. The body of the thing was a very light blue, almost white, and the head and tail were a darker cyan with white stripes. There was a collar around its neck, and a leash that was tied around the handle on a dumpster. The collar had a literal lock holding it around its neck, and the leash was in turn locked to the collar. Whatever it was, it looked too skinny. It was also asleep. I got on my knees and pet it on its head, but got no response. The eyes didn't even open.
Although knives aren't allowed on campus, I still bring my old Boy-Scout blade, and I used it to jaggedly cut the collar off. I picked up the poor thing and carried it with me the whole three miles home. I gave it a sponge bath as it still hadn't opened its eyes and I didn't want to drown the poor thing, and that's when it neighed at me. Dogs don't neigh. It seemed to enjoy the sponge bath, and afterward I dried it off with my fluffiest towel. The little horse-thing didn't try to stop me from washing it, and it was practically limp in my hands as I dried it. It still looked way too thin, so I heated some tomato soup in the microwave for it. If I held the warm soup to the pony's mouth, it would open slightly and I could feed it like a baby. After all of the soup was gone (it ate it all, eventually) I didn't really know what else to do, So I put the pony in my bed with the covers tucked around it and then went to the kitchen table to write this. Since tomorrow is Saturday, I can maybe get Doug to take me and the pony to a veterinarian so I can see if the pony is okay. I have homework to do, but now it's too late and I'm too tired. Maybe because it's so late is why I'm taking this all so well. It doesn't matter.

I finished my writing and put my head on the kitchen table. I thought back to what I had first seen when I saw the pony. And then, I cried myself to sleep.

Author's Notes:

This story is gonna be an emotional rollercoaster for me. I can feel it.
