Trial and execution ~Chapter 1~
The frozen wind bit into my parka as though it wasn’t even there. My white coat and parka helped me blend with the snow. I was lying on top of a small cliff of ice, doing my best to keep the heavy caliber rifle from shaking with my body. I'd had years of practice shooting in freezing temperatures, so the rifle stayed relatively on point tracking the head of a lone dark figure in an endless sea of pale snow. No pony is supposed to be traveling through here today, I think I should call this in. I thought to myself. I reached for my radio to call back to base, but never got the chance as a heavy boot stomped down on my foreleg pinning it. I spun my head and looked up to see somepony in a white camo parka swing a crowbar at my head. Then pain exploded behind my eyes and my vision went black.
When I awoke I felt hot blood covering the side of my face. Drowsily I looked around and worked out I was in a wooden cart slowly filling with snow. I tried to stand up but pain made my legs collapse under me, I fell back on to the floor on the cart with a puff of snow. When I awoke for the second time I was on my back staring up at some old stone roof. Wary of what happened last time, I slowly rose pulling an old worn out blanket off of me. I saw I was sitting on a cold cement floor in a dark room with on candle dimly lighting the room, there was an old iron door on one side of the room. It was mostly empty except for the candle and a bit of old hay in the corner. I scanned myself and found that other than being stripped of weapons I still had all of my belongings. I brought my hoof up and gently touched my head. It came back bloody but there was some sort of bandage covering the cut and it didn’t seem to be bleeding. Whoever they were they were keeping me alive at least, on second thought that could be worse. I got up, swaying only a little and made my way to the door.
There was an iron grate near the top I could look through. I peeked around the dimly lit hallway on the other side of the door. There were other doors identical to mine in long rows leading out of my field of vision. Then it made sense "Shit!" I said hitting the wall with a hoof. I was in prison. One of them must have snuck up behind me using the other as a distraction, knocked me out, and pulled me back to Canterlot. "Damn it!" I yelled and kicked the big metal door. It boomed from the hard impact and I shrank back from the door, as I immediately heard brisk hoof steps walking towards my cell. Then a face appeared at the great on the door. The pony looked at me with pale yellow eyes then immediately turned around hurrying back the way they came. I heard a deep male voice say "He's awake. Keep an eye on him, I'm going to report this to the princess." The bottom dropped out of my stomach.
The Trial was short to say the least. from the moment it started I just hung my head, my hooves cuffed behind my back. I knew I was guilty and so did they, there was no way out. even with my minimal understanding of the court I knew that I would have the death penalty soon enough.
"Do you admit to the murder of Meadow Song, Buttercup Caesar, Bell Perin, and Affero Oak?" Some judge pony asked. I let out a long sigh and look up a bit but still not facing anypony
"I do." I said in a calm voice. I knew I would die here, the only thing to do now is to face it like a stallion. There were some mumbles that broke out of the crowd for the trail. I just lowered my head again and waited for the proceedings to wrap up.
"Nighters Lightbane I hereby sentence you to death." The judge finally said. I sighed again as I was dragged off to my cell.
After a few days the cell started to feel like home in an odd way. I woke up early the day I died, it was a rainy day, the sun blocked by clouds but the birds still chirped and flew around the trees outside. it was then the princess walked into my cell. I just stood looking out the window and did not turn to face her.
"It is time" She said. A tinge of pain in her voice.
"I know" I replied not a hint of fear in my voice, only acceptance. She cringed a little at the tone. I calmly stepped past her into the hall were the guards were waiting to escort me.
They lead me out into a court yard behind the castle, the light rain sprinkling my head and back. When we came to a stop on a small wooden stage one of the guards behind me forced me onto a section of the stage disconnected from the rest attached by hinges and tied a noose around my neck. As I sat there in the rain on the little stage in front of a crowd of ponies their faces grim, a preacher started a prayer for me. I wasn't a follower of Celestia but I appreciated the gesture and kept quiet through the whole thing. I looked out into the crowd and I met eyes with the princess. She was trying hard to keep a look of deep sadness and shame off her face.
I looked at her almost fondly and gave her a forgiving smile as the floor fell from underneath me hooves. The next second felt like and hour. I saw Celestia turn her head away sharply a tear on her cheek. Then I saw Daisy a few rows from the front, a devastated look on her face as tears rolled down her face. I thought of all the nights I had spent with Daisy, with her in my arms. All the times we had been together, and I was hit with the realization that I wasn't ready to leave yet. I still had so much to do before I died. I needed to tell Daisy I loved her again! I needed to see my friends and make sure they were alright. It was on that desperate thought that I died.

Note: Lots of stuff will be explained in the later chapters.
This is the first story I've ever written so don't expect too much. also ill try to update when i get a chance
The dark ~Prologue~
I fumbled around in the dark looking for a wall or something to get my bearings.
When I extended my hoof to take a step it made contact with something hard and wooden, a table. It made a hollow knocking sound and I heard movement behind me.
"Damn it!" I thought. Then a groggy female voice said "Nighters? is that you?" there was the sound of a match being struck then the room was filled with a warm orange light emanating for an old oil lamp. I had wanted to slip out without waking her.
I turned and just stared at daisy for a second, her orange coat seemed amplified by the fire light and even with her blonde mane all disheveled she looked amassing. I thought of just crawling back into bed and sleeping with her.
I shook my head and rein in my thoughts. "Yea I've got guard duty, tonight its only 8 hours. I'll be back for breakfast if I'm lucky." I said. she rolled out of bed and walked into the kitchen saying "I'll make you something, you shouldn't be sitting out in the cold with no food for 8 hours." she said tiredness lessening from her voice "I wonder why you signed up for the night shift in the first place." I grinned at her while she started making me a sandwich and hot coco. "You know why, I've always liked looking up at the stars. And besides, somepony has to do to it" I replied.
She trotted up to me and hovered the sandwich and thermos into my saddle bag, her horn giving of a feint light. As an earth pony I had always envied unicorns and pegasi. I thought life would be much easier with magic or wings but I knew there was no way I could have either.
"Well I guess I'll be heading off now." I said a tinge of sadness in my voice. She smiled apologetically and gave me a deep kiss "I'll be here when you get back." I shrugged on my white parka and some shoulder pads, scooped up my goggles, and walked up to the broken mirror in one corner of the room. I was a snow white pony with a spiky black mane with a few streaks of teal in it, my eyes looked sunken and had bags under them then I slung the heavy rifle on my back and tucked a radio in my pocket. I shook my head to wake up a bit and walked to the door, daisy walked after me. I stopped and turned to her. We kissed for a moment it was really temping to stay, but I broke the kiss and walked out the door.
I stepped out into a small town dimly lit by the moon and stars. Looking out at the night reminded me of the hate I felt for Celestia.
It started years ago everything had changed for me. My father had started teaching me about a hidden part of our history. That was when I learned the truth about the world, I was given the knowledge that Celestia had turned her back on us. She had not raised the sun for my hometown in over 200 years.
My father told me of places without snow and ice. Naturally I had been fascinated by these mysterious places, and later in my life I had traveled equestria and seen many things. But the more I saw the more I hated the princess for abandoning my family and friends.
One day the town was attacked by a dragon, it had swooped own and torched the town in under a minute. My family had died in the attack along with everyone else except for Daisy, Kriece, and me. No one ever came to help. I had to bury my father and mother when I was just a kid. Ever since then I had cursed Celestia for leaving us to die.
Without anypony to look out for the survivors we wandered around equestria. Robbing anypony we saw. We had rarely slept in the same bed twice. Eventually we had settled down in a small town like my hometown and it had been fairly peaceful.
I continued down the road and out of the city. I trudged up onto a big cliff of ice and set up my rifle for guard duty.
I sat there alone with my thoughts.
That was until I saw I dark figure in an endless sea of white snow...
Blinding light ~Chapter 2~
I drew in a ragged breath, which was surprising considering that i had just died.
It was cold and my body was heavy, like someone had covered me in a pile of wet blankets. I felt power slowly returning into me and i twitched my leg. Then i heard a man’s voice close to my left say in a hushed tone
"Did you see that?! Its leg moved!" even in my in my current state I though Hey! I am not an "it" I wanted to voice my complaint, but I still couldn't move. After another minute a timid female voice to my right said
"umm... how long is this going to take?" The first voice curtly replied
"a few seconds, hold on." I heard soft hoofsteps back away
"ill... I’ll be back here" Then lighting shot directly into my chest, I let out a loud yell of pain but it sounded... off. The tone was too low, and it sounded as if from far away. Then it hit me, I could talk. My body no longer felt heavy. I opened my eyes and stood up scanning the room. I was somewhere underground in an old stone chamber standing in some sort of stone box.
There were two figures in dark robes one on either side of me. One of them made a whimpering noise and my head snapped to them. The pony flinched in fear taking a few steps back. I just stared still confused from this strange series of events.
"Nighters Lightbane!" The stallion said from behind me. I turned to face him and he cleared his throat awkwardly
"I have revived you from your grave so you can help us overthrow Celestia." Then memories impacted my brain, all rushing back in. my eyes grew wide
"WERE IS SHE?!" i growled, my new voice booming off the walls. I could see the stallion pale and he started stammering
"i-i- i don't- i don't know who you’re talking about." he was scuttling back towards the walls visibly shaking with fear. Somewhere in the back of my mind i noticed i had ignited into blue flames as i walked towards him. He had backed all the way to the wall and still advanced to him. When my face was two feet from his i said in a deathly quiet whisper
"Daisy. Where."
"i-i-i- you- please don't hurt me!" the stallion squeaked. My fire flared burning the stallions face
"Aaaah! Ok, ok! I’ll tell you!" he said, his hooves covering the burn.
"Well- well you see when you were umm... killed. She- she ran up and... Well stabbed the executioner, as you would guess the guards were... not happy. Then she was... she was..." my temper rose along with the flames and he yelped
"They killed her!" his eyes widened and he gulped. Rage and denial consumed my thoughts
“NO!" i shouted
"YOU’RE LYING!" and i sent out a wave of fire at him. He tried to flee but at such close range he did little more than flinch as the fire washed over him. The stallion writhed on the ground screaming, even after he ran out of air he made choking noises but i did not flinch. I stared for a few more seconds then he went limp bone showing against his black flesh. Somewhere in off in the corner of my mind i wondered if should have felt remorse for the stallion because i felt nothing but rage.
Then whimpers from behind me attracted my attention. I turned and stared at the sobbing mare, she looked at me with huge eyes full of shock, sorrow, and fear. Right now i felt nothing for the mare i simply snarled and send a lash of flame at her. I walked up a set of old stone steps and out into the sun light.
Sunrise ~Chapter 3~
It was the dead of night by the time i reached Canterlot, not that i paid it much mind.
As i approached the gates a pair of guards stood still, shocked into motionlessness. Not that I blamed them, but it cost them their lives. I sent two lashes of flame and they both fell screaming. As I walked into the courtyard a sentry yelled something from a tower and I saw guard funnel from doorways, soon about a hundred guards had me surrounded in a semicircle. Then one pony stepped out and towards me less heavily armoured whom I recognised as a captain, and said in a cocky tone
“give up whoever you are, maybe you’ll have quick death” for a second I smiled, I couldn’t help it. I simply replied in my booming voice
“Where. Is. Celestia.” The captain seemed a little put-off by my lack of concern, but quickly regained his composure and snapped
“seize him!” and two guards moved towards me. When they were about five feet away I made my move. Teal fire erupted from the ground beneath them with enough force to send them spiralling in the air. For a brief moment no one moved, and then the guards rushed me.
The fight was a blur of movement, fire, and screams. About a minute later I stood in the scorched courtyard, not a scratch on me. Every guard had been killed or maimed. I walked up to the captain who was bleeding profusely from where a blast of fire had torn half of his hind leg off.
“Where.” I boomed. He looked up at me and said
“your scum, I would never betray the princess”
“then die for her.” I said, and fire burnt the captain’s flesh from his bones.
As I approached the castle something strange happened, the sun rose. At 2 am.
Celestia walked through the door of the castle and straight towards me, a look of fury on her face. I stood my ground, hate written all over my face. She stopped in front of me and said through gritted teeth
“Why Nighters?”
“You know damn well!” I snapped
“killing me was one thing, but daisy was too far!” I boomed, my flames flaring up around me. Her anger lessened, if only slightly.
“Nighters I can’t make exceptions-”
“Bullshit!” I growled.
“Look I know you you’re angry, but I couldn’t have done anything. She chose to do it and she had to pay for her actions.” My flamed flickered and dulled a bit
“No! It’s your fault! It was all you… i…” my eyes welled, the fire lowering to a thin layer
“i can’t…” my irrational anger was fading, but I clutched at the strands and whispered
“but… my home”
“You misunderstand, I have never raised the sun for that part of Equestria. That town was started by ponies that hated the sun and never wanted to see it.” Celestia said
“But my father said-“ I whispered, the fire gone.
“He told you what he was told when he was a child” The princess said
“so it was all a lie?” I said weakly my head hung.
“Yes.” Celestia said pity in her voice.
Then the last of my will buckled, I collapsed and wept for what seemed like hours. During that time a black pegasi with an ash colored mane walked up beside the princess and said
“what should we do with him?”
“I’ll send him to the dungeon, watch over him. I need to return to my chambers” Celestia said.
“I will” The pegasi said.
There was a flash of light, and then I was on the floor of a small lightly furnished room. I just wept for a time, but soon fell into a deep sad sleep.
Smithy ~Chapter 4~
The next day i woke up and immediately stretched out before opening my eyes and scanning the room. It was well furnished as prison cells go, a heavy wooden door, a bed, a bookshelf, a desk with paper and a quill, and lantern emitting warm orange light. “How did I end up in prison again” I muttered with a sigh. I stood and walked up to the heavy wooden door. I pushed gently on the door and found it was secured in place “Was worth a shot” I chuckled. I sat at the desk and drew some doodles then read a few books and generally kept myself distracted from darker thoughts. After a few hours there was a knock at my door, not that I could open it. There was jingling of keys and then the sound of the door being unlocked. I sucked in a breath and prepared for the worst. So it came as a shock when I saw Princess Luna standing in the door way. I blinked my eyes at her for a second. “Hi?” I said confusion obvious in my voice. “Hello Nighters” she said in a tone of suppressed cheer. “I was expecting Celestia or at least some guards, why are you here?” I asked “I have some questions for you I’d like to have answered” after a pause she added “Not an interrogation or anything, I just want to know” my eyebrow lifted in suspicion “ok…” I responded. Luna asked me questions about my past which i answered truthfully, but left out any mention of daisy. The whole time her eyes sparkled with interest, I never thought my life was that interesting.
During a pause between questions a black coated an ash colored mane pegasus I vaguely recognized opened the door a look of suppressed anger on his face “Luna, you shouldn’t be here. Please return to your duties” it was odd how the pegasus spoke with a tone of big brotherly authority over the princess. Luna jumped up looking like a guilty foal and ran out of the room. The pegasus turned to me and glared, I shot him a look back full of suspicion “Why is it you can talk to the princess like that?” he averted his gaze and said “Celestia will visit you soon, be ready” and with that he closed the heavy wooden door and locked it. Something about him didn’t add up, I would need to find out more about him later. I was lounging on the bed when I heard the lock on the door being opened. I rolled over and got off the bed standing to face the door.
The door opened, Celestia and a dozen guards stood outside. I looked at her blankly unsure what to expect "would she sentence me to death again? Or would I be locked up here until I die?" I thought. "Nighters you’ve committed terrible crimes in both your life times, and you must face consequences. But I'm afraid your punishment is a bit complicated" Celestia said "The thing is, you can’t die so i can’t have you executed now can i?" My mouth fell open "What? I can’t die?" i said dumbfounded. "Oh, you didn't know that? Well no you can’t, so for your punishment you have two options. You can ether stay here for a thousand years, or enlist in the royal guard" she said bluntly. "Wait. Now that i think about it they haven't brought me food at all and i don't feel the least bit hungry or thirsty” I thought, then the rest of what she said hit me “What?! I can’t stay here for a thousand years!” I exclaimed “Then join the guard, those are your only options” said Celestia “We will keep an eye on you of course but you will be able to move freely in the castle and will be under direct order from Luna and I. if we have need you will be able to leave the castle on missions too” “You’re not really giving me much choice in the matter but sure, I’ll join the guard” I conceded. Celestia nodded “I’m glad you got over your anger and I am sorry about dais-“ The fire in the lantern quadrupled in size and the glass half shattered and half melted from the sudden heat “Get out.” I said my voice as cold as ice. Celestia nodded again and said “A guard with your armour will arrive shortly, wait here” then walked out closing the door behind her. The flame had lowered but was still not back to normal, I took some deep breaths and waited for the guard with my armour.
Soon a short fat stallion covered in grime and wearing an apron who I could only assume was the smith burst in and said “Catch!” then a set of ornate gold armour was flying at my face.
I concentrated on catching it even though it was hopeless. Suddenly the armour burst into flames or what looked like flames but emitted only a faint heat and looked like a mix of unicorn levitation magic and fire. I looked over and saw the smithy had a look of total shock on his face, then my focus slipped and the armour toppled to the ground “… Did I just use magic?!” I thought in amazement. “How did…” the smith said, then quickly shook his head “Never mind. So there’s your armour now if you want to get changed, I’m supposed to show you around so hurry your flank. I’m a busy stallion” I plopped on the body plate and as soon as I did there was a hissing sound, I looked back and saw the metal melting off my body. As the last of the gold dribbled to the floor I turned and saw the stubby stallion staring at me mouth agape in surprise. “Umm… got anything that can withstand high temperatures?” I said. The surprised look morphed into a determined grin and he gained a twinkle in his eye “Follow me” he said.
Luna ~Chapter 5~
I followed the smithy who was muttering to himself down through hallways until we came to the forge. “Ah, here we are!” he started running back and forth fetching things from racks and barrels. The room was filled with a light smoke that funnelled out of a hole in the roof, there were a variety of metals and other materials scatted randomly over wooden racks protruding from the wall. There was a big forge full of red hot embers, the smithy was already heating and pounding metal. I smiled a bit he was so absorbed in his work I’m sure he didn’t even remember I was there, I sat in a wooden chair of in the corner and closed my eyes. What had to have been only a few hours later I was woken by a loud “HAHA! That ought to do it!” I glanced up to see him examining his work with a triumphant smile. I trotted up and said “you done?” he turned to me with his toothy grin and said “Try it on” he stepped aside and I saw a set of armour that looked like it was made of obsidian. I carefully shrugged the body plate on, nothing happened so I pulled the rest on with help from my new found magic. This armour was a lot more battle suited that the other gold armour, there was almost none of my coat showing only a slit for my eyes. I noticed that there was a faint blue light coming from inside my helmet “Hey you got a mirror” I asked the smithy “Sure over here” he gestured to an old mirror against one wall. I walked up and surprisingly the armour barely made and noise. When I looked in the mirror my jaw fell open, were my eyes were I could only see orbs emitting that blue fire glow little trails of blue smoke funnelling out from the slit “Holy shit!” I yelled “how was this even possible I can see perfectly fine!” I thought. Then I noticed the forge had erupted into tall flames. I took a few deep breaths and the flames dissipated, I turned back to the smithy, who was still grinning like a maniac “That good eh?” he said “Uh yea” I replied. I looked back at the mirror and examined the armour, I looked like some kind of evil villain rather than a royal guard. But it did look pretty awesome. “Hey thanks…” I tailed off “Oh the names Smith” I looked at him blankly for a moment then chuckled “Not the most original name for a smithy” “Bah it’s a fine name, though this detour has eaten up my tour time. Just go report to Princess Luna for your placement” Smith said “alright, which way?” I said “Just got left, then take you first right you can’t miss it” Smith said. I walked down the hall and turned right, after a minute I came up to a giant pair of doors with a pair of moons on them “Smith was right, pretty hard to miss” I thought. I pushed the door open and walked in. It was a big throne room though a darker color scheme than Celestia’s, as I looked around and found there were no sources of light at all “Holy shit I can see in the dark with these eyes? Maybe my new eyes weren’t so bad, and they did look pretty cool” I thought. I turned and faced the princess who was reclining in a comfortable looking throne with her personal guard scattered around the room. I looked straight at the princess and bowed “Princess Luna” I greeted her “ah Nighters come take a seat” she said motioning at a comfortable couch. I walked up and sat down on the couch facing her. She clapped her hooves a little and said “Ha, you don’t even need my night seeing spell. I think we’ll get along just fine” she said with a grin. “So, what’s my placement? I don’t have to patrol the sewer or something do i?” I asked. Luna gave out a chuckle “No, no. nothing like that, in fact you’ll be joining my personal guard” she said her smile broadening “Thank you princess, its and honour” I said a little dumbfounded. “So what should I do exactly?” I asked “Lunch I’d guess, you needn’t do a thing unless I call you. And right now I have nothing for you” she replied “I wonder if I should tell her I don’t need to eat. Nah I'm already odd enough” I thought. “Ok. I’ll see you later then princess” I said turning and heading back the way I came. “Were am I even going? Might as well explore and gain some bearings” I thought. After half an hour of walking and getting odd stares I knew the general layout of the castle. I walked into the cafeteria , and the loud chatter lessened and whispers broke out among the tables of guards when they saw me. I calmly walked up to the server who was a scrawny little stallion with acne and seemed out of place among all the guards. He shook visibly in fear and spilled my drink twice then handed me a tray packed with one of everything on it. I nodded in thanks and he calmed a bit then walked up to an empty table and sat down. Before I could take of my helmet a brawny guard trotted up and yelled “Hey!” I turned to face him “You the one who killed all those guards right” “yes” I replied. He looked a little taken back by my voice. I had almost forgotten about it but my voice, it did sound quite ghostly. He regained his confidence and said “I heard you were trying to attack the princess because she executed your slu-“ that was all he had time to say, in a split second a ball of fire impacted him in the chest, breaking fourteen of his eighteen ribs and dislocating both his forelegs. He tumbled limply through the air and landed with a crash on a table at the opposite end of the room. Every eye was on me, and I was now coated in my teal flames. Ponies moved to help him and I walked off to my room. When I arrived I found the door locked and note on the door “Nighters, your chambers have been moved. Please return to the throne room. Luna.” “Huh” I said and burned the note to ash and trotted down the hall. When I walked in Luna was still in her throne but all the guards were gone. “Ah… Nighters just in time. Follow me to your new quarters” she said her voice sultry. I raised an eyebrow though through the helm I seriously doubted she could see it. “Ok…” I replied and followed her through a door behind her throne, once inside the door slammed behind me. I looked and saw Luna had ditched her boots and was now lying on a giant bed with black covers that looked unreasonably soft “Holy shit! This is the princesses chambers!” I thought.
On a Mission ~Chapter 6~
“Umm, Luna?” I asked. “Shush, now come on you know you want to~” my jaw dropped open “uh- um- i-“ I stammered. Then a weird sensation wriggled over me and my greaves fell to the floor leaving me un-armoured from the waist down, soon the rest of my armour had joined them. Luna shot me a look that could only mean one thing and I was wrapped in magic and being pulled to the bed “Luna, what are-“ then she put a hoof to my mouth and pinned me with magic belly up on the bed. This was going a little fast for me but Luna seemed fascinated with… well something. “Hmm… the nurse said it was big but this is… wow…” she trailed off “Wait what?!” I blurted. “Hmm? When you first came here… we had a nurse examine you for injuries… word got around” she said absentmindedly “WHAT!?” I yelled again trying to ignore Luna’s probing, which failed horribly. I let out a groan of pleasure and involuntarily bucked my hind legs. Luna smiled and raised an eyebrow, then touched me in the same place. I groaned and kicked again, her smile broadened “Well, well” she said. “Oh, fuck” I thought. She moved her head down and I felt hot breath on my groin. I squirmed, then a thought hit me “Why was I avoiding this?!” I stopped struggling and smiled looking up at Luna she glanced at me then smiled and the magic dissipated and then I was free to move around. As the princess moved her head down again, the doors swung open and that black and ash colored pegasus walked in “Luna, I can’t find nigh-“ he stared for a moment then his eyes burned with fury and bellowed “GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM LUNA, AND GET THE FUCK OUT!” I quickly rolled of the bed and concentrated, there was a flash of light and all my armour had teleported on me. “I would have to give myself a pat on the back later, for now what was up with this pegasus?” I thought. I trotted to the door keeping my eye on the pegasus “I don’t see why it’s your business, but fine. I'm gone!” I called as I walked out the doors, they slammed behind me “asshole” I muttered under my breath. I turned to walk down the hall when a thought occurred to me, I still didn’t have a room! I facehoofed then slumped on the floor “it’s a good thing this armour was so comfortable” I thought, and within a few minutes I was asleep. I was woken by a loud “Nighters!” it sounded like they had said it before. “ya, ya” I mumbled blinking sleep from my eyes, and found Celestia standing over me a puzzled expression on her face “why are you sleeping in the hall?” Celestia asked “long story” I stood and shook myself. “What do you need?” I asked “I have a job for you, until things cool down with Luna” She said “alright” I replied, glancing over how she found out about Luna. “It’s nothing major, just a delivery. There’s a chariot outside, once you arrive find a pony named twilight sparkle and give her this” she floated over a plain brown paper package about the size of a dictionary. I put it in a bag attached to my armour “If that’s all, I’ll be off.” I said, Celestia nodded and I walked off to the courtyard. Once there I saw that the driver was a pegasus mare in some strange latex suit with a bright yellow mane, she was leaned against the cart smoking. When she saw me she nearly ate the cigar she started coughing and sputtering as I moved towards her “I sure have a way with the ladies” I said sarcastically as I walked past her and stepped into the chariot. She regained her composure and walked up to the door, peeking around at me. I sat on a plush couch and looked blankly at her for a moment then said “Need something?” I asked flatly. She shook her head and said “Are you the messenger?” “Yes and I’d like to get going so…” I said twirling my hoof in a circle “Oh! Ok, yes sir, right away!” she bowed and ran out of sight “sir? … Well I guess I wouldn’t want to risk pissing me off in her position, I wasn’t exactly the kindest looking pony.” I thought. Then with a lurch we began our trip.
Delivery ~Chapter 7~
Hours later the cart bumped and jostled, landing on a bumpy dirt road. I had been practicing magic while on the chariot and now barley had to concentrate to levitate or teleport things. When we came to a complete stop I hopped out of the chariot and found myself on the outskirts of a small town. I walked up to the exhausted driver and asked “where are we?” “Ponyville” she answered between gasps “any idea where Twilight Sparkle is?” I asked “Library. Hollow tree.” She replied. I walked off down the road and into town. As I walked by the first house I saw nopony on the street and all the houses windows had there shutters drawn “Apparently my good looks scared everypony away” I mumbled sarcastically into the silence. After a few minutes of walking around I found the library, I walked up to the door and knocked. I heard a little squeal of fear that cut off abruptly like there mouth had been covered. I forced down a sigh and knocked again louder, the noise echoed off the empty streets. I was about to nock a third time when the door opened partly, a purple unicorn stepped into view “can I help you” she said trying to sound calm “Are you Twilight Sparkle?” I asked. She took a step back at the sound of my voice “Yes, what do you want?” she asked suspiciously “I was sent by Princess Celestia to deliver a package” her demeanour changed instantly “Oh, how rude of me come in” opening the door fully. I trotted in and plopped down in the closest chair, then used my magic to open the bag and bring out her package. Her jaw fell open and she stared at the hovering box. “What’s so important about the box? How does she even know what’s inside it?” I thought. Then she said “How…” I almost facehoofed right there “I forgot, the whole earth pony using magic thing” I thought “You gonna take it?” I asked impatiently “oh, right” she said levitating the box onto a table. Then I noticed that there were four other ponies sitting around the table. All mares, a white unicorn with a purple main, a teal pegasus with a rainbow mane, an orange earth-pony with a blond mane and a cowpony hat, and a yellow pegasus with a pink mane cowering behind the rest. I nodded hello and said “Well if that’s all I guess I’ll be going-“ “Wait! Are you and earth-pony?” Twilight asked “Yea, and before you ask. Yes I can use magic, and I don’t know why myself” “Would you mind if I did some tests?” Twilight asked. I raised a brow “I would but I have to report back to Celestia” I answered “that won’t be a problem ill have spike send a letter” she said smiling. I let out a sigh and said “Well if I'm staying for a bit, you mind introducing me to your friends” “yes of course” she chirped and pointed at the white unicorn “that’s Rarity” then pointed at the teal pegasus “that’s Rainbow Dash” next was the orange earth-pony “this is Applejack” and lastly pointed at the cowering yellow pegasus “and she’s Fluttershy” I said “I'm Nighters, nice to meet you” “Why are you wearing that dreadful armour?” rarity asked “Because if I wore anything else it would burst into flames” I said matter-of-factly. Everypony just stared at me “Oh yea. I can control fire, and I burst into flames when I'm angry” I said. They continued to stare until Rainbow Dash said “That is so awesome!” and hopped up and flew circles over my head “by the way I'm the best flyer in all of equestria” she boasted “really? Well you wouldn’t mind showing me some moves then?” I asked “No problem” she said and zipped out the door and into the sky. I walked out and watched her spin and twirl through the sky “This brings back memories… I always wanted to see the sky…” I thought. Then I heard a loud gasp and turned to see twilight about 30 feet below me and staring up at me, I looked back and saw I had a set of wings made from my teal fire sprouting from my back “holy shit!” i said and experimentally tried to move forward. It felt like I knew exactly what to do, and soon I was doing loops a twirling through the air a huge smile on my face. After a few minutes I stopped and realised that rainbow had stopped and was watching me a mix of shock and awe on her face. I flew over and said “what never seen an earth-pony use magic to make wings before” grinning like a mad stallion. She smiled and said “so you think your hot shit, how about a race” I was still high on my first flight and said “Hell yea, let’s do it!” “Ok! First one to Sweet Apple Acres wins, it’s the apple orchard by the way” Rainbow said “Ok. 3. 2. 1. GO!” Rainbow shot of at an insane speed and I accelerated to catch her. The trees below were wising by in blurs but Rainbow was still ahead. I concentrated on catching up and my wings exploded outwards and doubled in size. The next flap sent me flying past Rainbow. I was coated in flames and grinning from ear to ear, I twitched and lost control of my high speed flight. I shot a wave of fire out in front of me causing me to slow to the point I could stop. I started hovering and looked down to see rows and rows of apple trees, then looked back to see Rainbow only a speck in the distance. A thought crossed my mind “I could escape with my wings, fly away and not be stuck as a guard for a thousand years” I looked left and right nopony would know where I went and nopony could find me” however I didn’t remember that twilight had could turn me in quite easily. I flared my wings again and took off towards a vague mountain in the distance.
A Friend ~Chapter 8~
I arrived at the mountain just as the sun set. I flew onto the entrance of a cave and landed, my wings extinguished immediately. It looked like this cave was an abandoned camp, it had an old bed roll in one corner and a firepit with an old rusty pot over it. I poked my head outside and focused on a tree, a few moments later the tree fell into little log size pieces and I hovered them inside. I hovered three into the firepit and dropped the rest in a pile. I lit the three in the fire pit with my fire and used the brush of the tree to conceal the cave entrance. My work done I plopped down on the bedroll and drifted to sleep. I was walking down a long hall that was bare except a door at the very end of the hall. I looked over my shoulder and it was pitch black. The light bulb above me flickered and I started to sprint to the door, which never seemed to get closer. The light bulbs dying behind me as I ran. Finally I reached the door, I put out a hoof and was about to push the door open when my hoof impacted solid stone. Where the door had been was solid stone. I spun around and saw every light was out except the one over my head, and the door was all the way back at the other side of the hall the black darkness between me and it. As the light over my head flickered there was a sudden pain in my head. I dropped to the floor and clutched my head in my forelegs. I saw my life flash before my eyes, but it wasn’t my life I was a pegasus then the same thing happened again but I was a unicorn this time and this happened over and over other peoples whole live flashing before me. The pain grew worse and I curled into a ball. The lights had all come back on and there was a figure standing over me, a black pony with an ash colored mane a look of concern on his face. Suddenly I burst into flames but they were not my fire and they scorched my skin, I writhed in agony screaming in pain. The pony stamped there foot on the floor and I woke up. I was flailing my legs writhing on the ground but something held my legs from moving too much. Even after I woke the pain was still there, for a few minutes I just writhed and screamed in pain. The pain dulled slowly and I just went limp, I blinked my eyes open and sucked in a deep breath. I was on some sort of stone table. Tied down with chains of the obsidian metal that my armour was made of. There was scorch marks all over the makeshift bed so I assumed I had been on fire earlier. The next thing I noticed is that I was not in my armour and I could see fresh blood splattered all over my chest. I guess I was crying because I could feel hot tears pouring from my eyes running down my face. I tried to move but only succeeded in twitching slightly, I let out a groan. Then a grey pegasus stood over me smiling an eerily big smile “Well hello Nighters, I've waited too long to meet you” he said all too cheerfully. His body wavered and distorted slightly, giving off the impression he was made of steam. I coughed up what had to have been blood and said weakly “Why am I chained up? And where am i?” “In the castle id assume, but that’s beside the point. Do you know why you have your magic, or how you’re even alive?” he said his voice merry “No. Of course you don’t. Well the reason you’re alive and have magic is me. You see, those two who revived you work for me” He said pacing around the room. I just blinked my eyes at him “And don’t think I was doing it out of the kindness of my heart, I have a job for you” his eyes burn with intensity and his smile broadened. “You’re going to kill Celestia” “But I don’t want to anymore” I whispered. His smile morphed into a ferocious snarl and a wave of pure pain washed over me. It felt like somepony had just broken every bone in my body and thrown me down a flight of stairs. After what felt like hours it faded and I vomited blood and bile all over the table “Who said you have a choice?” he hissed out. All I could do was twitch, and then I lost consciousness.

A New Home ~Chapter 9~ *Finally!*
I slouched down against the side of the table after two guards undid the chains binding me to the table. I was a mess of scars and dried blood, it felt like the life had been drained from my body. Celestia walked in and peered down at me. “What?” I snapped, the pain only pissing me off. “I doubt you have had time to figure this out but, the mission I sent you on was a test to see if you were honest in your pledge to serve as a guard. It is quite obvious you failed horribly, though there are two things stopping me from just throwing you into the dungeon to serve your sentence. One is my belief that you are not an evil pony, you were just consumed by rage.” She glanced back at the door and sighed. “The other is that six ponies are here to see you.” Confusion overtook my pissiness “Who?” I asked. Before Celestia could answer I heard some commotion outside “Well, ill trust you not to make any trouble while they’re here and take my leave.” Celestia said moving out the door with the guards. “Who the hell would visit me?” I thought. I looked down and remembered my bloody and scared state “Oh well, I seriously doubt they were going to ask me out anyway.” I thought dryly. Five ponies I recognized and one I didn’t stepped into the room and all of them got pale, one I remembered as Rarity swayed on her feet a little as if she was going to faint. I grinned as best I could “Twilight, sorry I haven’t had time to clean up” I said lightly brushing flakes of dried blood from my coat. Twilight had a mix of surprise and horror on her face, along with everypony else. “Sweet Celestia…” she whispered. I coughed up a little blood and said “Don’t worry about me, ill be fine” I said. A blur of yellow and pink flew at me and soon I was in a strong but gentle hug, I looked down at Fluttershy and said “Really I'm fine!” lifting my forelegs in play surrender. “What are you all doing here?” I asked them “Well I found you out by a mountain rolling around screaming, you were covered in flames so… so I couldn’t do anything to help!” Rainbow said tears welling in her eyes. I raised my hoof at her and said “It’s not your fault, and I don’t blame you. There was nothing you could have done.” Rainbow wiped her eye and resumed her story “so I flew back to Ponyville as fast as I could and told twilight. She sent a letter to the princess and the last we heard she teleported you here.” “Twilight and I got everypony and we came here to check on you” She finished. “Well I'm fine.” I said “… Sort of.” I added sighing “What do you mean sort of?” Twilight asked “Well I was on probation really and by trying to escape I've fucked myself over, I doubt I’ll leave the castle for years. It was just stupid of me to want to live a normal life.” I trailed off as I felt Fluttershy shoulders tighten a bit. Twilight shot me a look of skepticism “I doubt the princess would do that.” She said. I looked past them into darker parts of my memories, I shuddered and shook my head “I deserve it, and there's no way in hell I'm leaving” I said darkly. Twilight’s face scrunched up in a look of determination “Come on girls, I think we should give him some space for a bit” Twilight said dragging Fluttershy off me. They all filed out of the room and closed the door behind them."That was kind of abrupt, they didn't even introduce the pink one. i guess i cant blame them. i wouldn't want to be around me ether." i mumbled. My thoughts drifted to the events before i collapsed, i wondered who that pony was and why they wanted Celestia dead. Suddenly chills crawled over my spine and i turned to face the grinning shadowy pony from before "So your wondering about your future of killing Celestia?" he purred. "Ya kind of, how exactly am i supposed to do that? You know I'm not exactly godly, magic wise." I said calmly "Well. That's one thing I can fix" He said his grin broadening widely "That will be your first mission. You'll have to kill somepony without using magic, and bring there corpse somewhere secluded. I will contact you when its done. You have one week." he said bluntly "does it matter how i kill them?" i asked. He chuckled and said "make sure there's at least some blood left in them." Then he started fading into the shadows "Wait! what about these injuries, how am i suppose to kill somepony when i can't lift my hooves?" i asked. half faded, his smile broadened and he tossed something at me. i raise a hoof and caught it. I looked down and examined what was a ball of deep green fire. suddenly the fire flared and in a few seconds covered my entire body, it felt like cool water running over me and energy washed into my body. A few seconds later it was gone along with the shadowy pony and i felt like i had been resting for a month. I stood up and felt no pain at all. My composure finally cracked and i fell to the ground. "I was going to kill somepony, not in rage, but in cold blood. But how!? the only ponies around were the guards and surely somepony would notice if one went missing." I thought Then Twilight burst through the door and smiled a broad smile at me "What?" I asked self-consciously. Her smile broadened, reminding me of a certain shadowy pony "Come on we're leaving!" she exclaimed "What, were?" i asked "Ponyville! I talked to the princess and your coming home with me!" My eyes widened in surprise.
