The New Black Plague: Spread of the Black Plague

by Genesis Raptus

Chapter 1: Octavia and Vinyl's discovery

The Canterlot police station’s door to it’s morgue slowly began to creak open. They strangely weren't locked like Vinyl originally thought it would be. I had my handgun ready as Vinyl opened the doors completely. I cautiously walked inside, with my finger ready on the trigger. The mortuary was strangely empty. There weren’t any wandering Xenomorphs or those grotesque Plagasi monsters like we’ve been seeing outside. There were only six large metal tables, A few embalming tools, four rows of shelves meant to store the deceased, and a desk full of clutter. I lowered my handgun.

"It’s Empty." Vinyl confirmed that she lowered her handgun.

"That’s Weird." I responded. "The one place I figured would be crawling with Xenomorphs during a Xeno-apocalypse is a morgue." I thought back to the moment that similar variants of Xenomorphs appeared back in Equestria, but the ones I’ve seen in the past were much more intelligent than the ones in this world. I guessed that the reason for that was because the ones in Equis were under a hive mind while here, they relied heavily on instinct.

"It looks like it’s a forensics lab."

"Really? Then why in the hell is there an incinerator in the other room?" I wasn't complaining about having it around, in fact, having an incinerator would help dispose of the the bodies all around the building.

"From what I read it used to be a morgue, but was later converted into a lab."

"That makes sense I guess."

"It would be nice if we could find something useful in here though." Vinyl said as she picked up a metal scalpel and examined it. "I guess this is something."

"This isnt about finding supplies Vinyl. We need to make sure every inch of this police station is safe if we ever want to establish a survivor outpost." I grabbed a stack of papers from the desk. "Finding supplies is just a plus."

"Yeah yeah." Vinyl dismissed. I scanned through the papers but didn't find anything of value. They were just embalming notes. I had enough experience with the dead now as it was. I didn't need to read any of these papers. Vinyl pocketed the scalpel and began looking but quickly stopped in my direction. "Hey Tavi, look at that." Vinyl called out as she pointed to the clutter above the desk. I looked away from the mortician's notes and noticed a weak glow slowly pulsing behind a small stack of papers. I winced a bit in confusion. I pushed the papers off the source of light and noticed a rather expensive looking laptop resting on the desk. I picked it up and placed it on top of the stack of papers.

"What am I supposed to look at? It's just a computer, nothing really useful."

Vinyl rested her left arm on one of the counters and rubbed her head with her right hand. "I guess it was too much to ask that this place be alien free and full of supplies." She looked around for a moment. "What do we do now that the basement is cleared?" A devilish smile spread across Vinyl's face. "Ever wonder what kind of porn a mortician watches?" She asked. Sometimes it was hard for me to believe that Vinyl used to be a cop before she became a DJ.

I returned her question with an expression of mixed confusion and judgment. "No."

"Want to find out?" She asked as she gestured to the computer.

"No," I answered a little disgusted. "I'm rather happy not knowing thank you."

"Well too bad," Vinyl said as she grabbed the laptop and wiped off most of the clutter off the desk. "You don't have a choice." She said on the left side of the desk and patted the right side for me to sit on.

I knew better than to argue with Vinyl. She was a charismatic devil with a silver tongue. She could charm the pants off of anyone on her worst day. She knew how to get what she wanted, and to save myself the time and shame, I thought it would be best to just do what she said. I reluctantly walk to the desk.

Vinyl smiled. "I knew you'd come around." She pushed out the remaining papers and dusted my would-be seat off.

I looked at the pile of papers on the floor. "Are you going to clean that?"

"Afterwards." She agreed. I shrugged and sat beside her. She opened the laptop excitedly. The computer quickly booted up and opened a word file that looked to be in the style of a diary. "Boring!" Vinyl said as she switched out of the file and tried to access the Internet.

"Hey go back real quick."

"What?"

"Go back to that word file."

"But, porn." She said almost disappointed.

"Just go back, I think I saw something." Vinyl let out a reluctant exhale, but switched back to the file without protest. I leaned as I began to read aloud.

Log # 1

Today started like a normal day. I was watching My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic while eating some snacks, when Dr. Redheart burst through the door with three police officers carrying a body bag. They were talking amongst each other using words like "attacked" and "bitten" and phrases like "no witnesses" and "attackers weren't found." I didn't really get the entire story. I was too busy trying to hide my snacks and close my laptop to pay attention. Thank god they didn't notice. We aren't really supposed to have food in here or use our laptops as televisions, but what Dr. Redheart didn't know wouldn't hurt me.

Anyway, she had the body placed on one of the metal tables and dismissed the police officers afterwards. Before I could ask her anything, she told me to hold off any procedures and wait for her as she went to go make a phone call. I nodded and with that she left.

It didn't take me long to start getting bored. I couldn't go back to watching My Little Pony now that I knew that Dr. Redheart was in the other room, so I decided to take a peek at our newly arrived guest. I absentmindedly started to unzip the body bag. It was just some middle-aged guy nothing special. I stopped when the zipper reached his neck. The left side of his neck looked like it was partially gouged out. I took a closer look and saw what looked like bite marks. My curiosity has been piqued. I slowly brought the zipper down the man's body. His red shirt was riddled with bloodstained holes that continued down his torso.

I couldn't help but feel a little unnerved by the state of the body. I wasn't used to seeing someone like this. I've worked as a forensic scientist for little under a year and I work in a city in Connecticut where crime is considered non existent. We don't usually see too much action let alone something like this. With my curiosity sated, I zipped up the body bag and continued waiting for Dr. Redheart.

I waited for about five minutes until she finally came back. "Let's get started." I told her as casually as I could, but she said that the body wasn't going to be examined by us instead we were going to incinerate it. I was taken a little aback by this. I asked her why that was and she told me that the cause of death was already determined. I had asked her what had killed the man. She said that the man had died from bullet wounds and that nothing out of the ordinary was found. I knew right then that she was lying but I didn't want to confront her.

After work, I went back home and started writing this. I'm not really sure what to make of today but just in case something odd is happening, I am making a log and emailing each part of it to an MLP convention out of state.
My name is Wallflower Blush and this is my log.

Log # 2

It's been a week since my last log entry. So we received more bodies that were marked for immediate incineration. That's five more since the first one came in, making up a total of six bodies. I've been asking some questions about the body disposal, but whenever I start to ask Dr. Redheart tells me to just do my job and not to worry. I got a raise a few days after I stopped my line of questioning. Dr. Redheart implied that if I continue just doing as I'm told, I would get even more. I'm not really sure how to feel about this. On the one hand I'm getting paid, but on the other hand, I'm being silent.

Log # 3

It's been two days since my last log entry. While Redheart was away for lunch, I received another body at the lab. This was a golden opportunity for me to finally find out what's been happening. Redheart would be gone for at least an hour and in that time, I would find out as much as I could. I opened the body bag and found a young lady who looked like she must have been in her early twenties. Her body was covered in bite marks just as the original victim had been. I examined one of the wounds and found out that they were canine bite marks, except the way the marks were presented it looked like the canine's teeth were slightly misshapen. I also remembered reading something about how there's been a recent rise in animal related violence. It must have been some kind of sickness that Redheart knew about and didn't want to spread. That must be the reason why we needed to incinerate the bodies immediately. I was highly disturbed by this revelation but I felt better knowing precisely what I was up against.

I continued with my examination and discovered something I couldn't explain. One of the bite was done by a human, and teeth on that mark was completely misshapen. I thought I was just mistaken, but as I continued examining I found more and more human bite marks. The thing that killed this woman was a human.

Log # 4

Since my examination yesterday, we've been receiving more and more bodies that were marked with the incinerate order. I don't understand what's happening. There shouldn't be this many bodies at once. People are starting to notice too. There are rumors that this is the act of some kind of evil occult. I'm not really sure about that theory but who knows what's going on. I sure as hell know I don't.

Log # 5

As I was examining another body, I immediately noticed that I personally knew this man. He was my next door neighbor. Sure he was a bit odd at time but he seemed like an ok guy. As I was examining him I noticed that his skin was completely pitch black. I'm not talking about that the black skin you would see on an African American, no I'm talking about his was one pale has now changed into a black as night skin. I also noticed that it began to twitch, but it wasn't the typical twitch I saw post-modem; it looked like it was slowly starting to wake up. This weird movement didn't last too long. It stopped twitching a few seconds later and became completely still. Even so, I can't help but feel enormously unnerved by this.

Log # 6

Redheart has gone missing since yesterday's log entry. I've taken up all of his responsibilities and did the incineration as she did them. I think she left town. I think she was starting to catch on about what was truly happening and he panicked. I know i should leave too. As soon as I have my affairs in order I'm out of here.

Log # 7

One day since my last log. They brought Redheart in today. The police officers who helped bring in the original victim brought in Redheart today. They set her on the table and left me to dispose of her. As I examined him I understood right away what had killed her. His body was riddled with bullets. They didn't want her to escape. I don't know who did it, but they know about us. They knew that Redheart had to be taken out. I can't leave anymore. Im a prisoner here, we all are.

Log # 8

One day since my last log. The bridge to the U.S. was closed today now none of us can leave. Whatever has been happening, whatever has been lurking around in the shadows, I have a feeling that it's almost done hiding. I can't stand being in the lab anymore, so I started to spend most of my time in the police station's lobby. I feel better not being alone.

Log # 9

A few hours after my last log. It happened. It finally happened. Officers Amethyst Star and Richards were sent out to answer a public disturbance call. Everything seemed normal, but when Amethyst came back without Richards I knew right away that something was wrong. I overheard her talking to another officer about the trip. She told him that Richards was killed by "one of those demons." Ever since then, we've been getting call after call of frightened citizens describing of how people were going crazy and becoming randomly hostile, they even said that some of the men that have been affected have been having their heads grow into the length of two fully grown stallions. We've heard about how they tried to eat their victims. This explains all the bites I've seen on most of the dead I've examined. Xenomorphs. I can't help but laugh as I write it down. God I can't believe this is happening. I can't believe that there are Xenomorphs roaming the streets. There are so many calls now. It's like they decided to attack all at once. There nowhere to go now. I'm going to stay here and hopefully wait this out. I hope someone is coming to find us.

Log # 10

The police are starting to find survivors and bring them to the police station for protection. Everyone here had been working hard to try and keep things running. I feel like all of this is in vain. I don't see any way that we will make it out of here alive. In fact I'm not even sure what to be scared of more, the aliens or the people that created them. Either way I know my time is up.

Today one of the cops and I went out into a police car to look for survivors. There are no words I could use to justify the amount of horror and disgust I felt. There were so many Xenomorphs. So many eyeless demons and ravenous grins. So much pain when a male gets turned. So much ripped flesh and exposed bones in their mouths. So many cries of horror and desperation for help, and so many gurgled screams when the aliens found them. We were useless. We either couldn't find anyone, or were too late to help when we did.

The officer and I, Aura I think her name was, were roaming around the streets when we found a pack of Xenomorphs thrashing at a door. High-pitch screams were coming from the other side. The screams sounded like they were coming from a little girl. We rushed for the group with our guns ready. Aura opened fire on the group of aliens which composed of four smooth headed ones and a ridged headed that had a bite on his right leg. I squeezed out a few rounds myself. Aura was able to bring down two of the demons, but I missed every shot.

The remaining Xenomorphs were able to break down the door before we were able to take them down. They rushed in and the panicked screams we heard before intensified. I ran as fast as I could but..... we failed him. He was a young boy no older than five. He didn't deserve what had happened to him, none of us did. We left after taking down the rest of the Xenomorphs. There was nothing left for us to do.

I took some time and thought about the little boy. The sounds of his screams lingered in my mind. I'd never heard such panic and desperation from anyone in my life before, but I was sure I'd be hearing more the coming days. I dreaded the thought when the last screams I would hear would be my own.

This rescue mission was a mistake. This is the last time I'm ever going out of the police station. Nowhere else is safe.

Log # 11

I almost died today. Our sanctuary was attacked. So many people died. We knew how to kill the Xenomorphs and protect ourselves from them, but the xeno that attacked us was nothing like them. We weren't prepared for it.

I was on the second floor when it came. I was with some of the other survivors when we suddenly heard gunfire outside. The first few shouts were followed with several more. Then more guns seemed to join in. We heard scream of agony accompanied by less gunfire until finally there was nothing. A long moment of silence followed. Everyone watched and waited to see what had happened, but nothing moved. My curiosity got the better of me and I began to run downstairs. I had just reached the bottom floor when the sound of the front door knob being turned caught my attention. I instinctively ran partially down the next set of stairs. I was able to see what was happening while at the same time being hidden from view. The door knob turned fully and the door slowly creaked open. The demon there was nothing like I'd ever seen. It was tall, the exact size of a na'vi from the movie Avatar. It was slightly skeletal but otherwise muscular, and it had a slightly electric blue skin but it was a darker blue. It had two extra arms on its chest. It had slits for nostrils like a bat and it had deep black eyes with light blue pupils. They shifted quickly. I think he was counting how many of us there were. I ducked down further. He shifted around and let out a high-pitched shriek. I saw him sprint forward and jump onto the second floor balcony. It must have been a 30 foot jump, and he cleared it so easily. I ran downstairs. The ambient sounds of screaming and thrashing fueled my little movement. I reached my lab and did the only thing i could think to do; I hid in one of the shelves meant for the dead and covered myself in a thin black sheet. I pulled the shelf closed. I didn't know what to do, so I waited. The horrors from upstairs didn't sound here, and that brought me some relief. After a few minutes I heard the sound of something cautiously walking around. It's slow steps could have belonged to anyone, a survivor looking for others, or a hunter looking for it's prey. I could hear the door squeaking open; I could hear the footsteps getting closer; and worst of all, I could hear the shelf next to me sliding opened. Moments later the shelf above that was opened. I could feel the small vibrations of something grabbing onto my shelf. I closed my eyes as my shelf was being opened. The sudden sound of gunfire forced me to look back at the situation. I opened my eyes and through the thin blanket I saw three police officers shooting franticly at the beast. It was hit by the first few shots but shrugged them off fairly easily. It dashed forward and immediately impaled one of the cops with it's talon like fingers. It's talons pierced all the way through the man's body and to the other side. the second police officer was immediately thrown against the other wall. He hit his head on the wall and didn't move. The last officer fired franticly and to my surprise, the bullets seemed to be slowing the beast down. It's movement became slower and far more labored. It impaled the last officer with its talons and it's spiked tail and raised him up to face it. It sunk it's long jagged teeth into the officer's neck. It tore away chunk after chunk of his throat. I watched in horror as it swallowed mouthfuls of meat with ravenous glee. It's final blow was when it opened it's mouth again to reveal a second pair of jaws on it's tongue, like a dagger it pierced the officer's skull once then continued for about four more times. After that it swallowed bits and pieces of the cop's brain and it lazily dropped the body and returned to the second officer. It walked to him and started to run it's blood soaked talons over him. The beast examined him with a gentleness I didn't think it was possible to have. It grabbed the officer and place him on its shoulder. It opened the doors out of the lab and in moments, it started to extend what looked like bat wings and just like that, it was gone.

I was still so scared. I waited hours before I even dared to try and leave the room. When I finally left I quickly found out that I was the only survivor. There were so many bodies scattered everywhere. I couldn't stay here. I ran back to my laptop and started writing this. I wanted to warn the next person to travel here that this place isn't safe. Everything outside can still get us here. Nowhere is safe.

I'm leaving first thing in the morning. I wish I'd left when I had the chance, but now I'm stuck here. I'm going to go out and find others. The last thing I want to do is die alone here.

"Wow." Vinyl said. "That was heavy." Vinyl looked completely shaken. She lost all of her normal confidence that made her such an asset during out time in the Black Plagueland.

"Yeah." I exhaled. "That also explains all the bodies everywhere." Vinyl nodded.

We sat there for what seemed like hours. "Now what do we do?" Vinyl said finally breaking the silence. "If there isn't anywhere safe, then where do we go?"

"We can’t go anywhere," I replied nonchalantly. "This place might not be safe but it's better than anywhere else we've been to." Vinyl looked unconvinced. "we can't just let people wander outside. This place at least has some protection from the xenos."

"Still." Vinyl replied just as grimly as before. "I can't see this place as being
safe enough."

"That's because it's not. Nowhere is safe, but this is our best shot." I rested my hand on Vinyl's shoulder. "Don't worry, we'll make it work."

"What do we do with the laptop?"

I contemplated her question for a moment. It seemed like this Wallflower woman made this document to warn people off from this place, which would be a problem if we were planning on making this place a stronghold. "We'll put it with the bodies in the incinerator. The truth this woman found won't help anyone anymore."

Vinyl hesitated for a moment, but nodded.
