“I really think you’re overestimating me here,” you continue. “Compared to your own magical prowess, I really don’t contribute anything positive to the defense equation.”

Princess Luna blinks a few times. “O-of course,” she says as her expression wilts. “I-I had just thought that you…N-nevermind.” Her ears press to the sides of her head. “C-continue on as before, my loyal protector.”

You shoot her a salute. “Absolutely, Your Highness!”

Each night after that point, Princess Luna would come up and greet you with a furtive glance and a small, sad smile, which you would return. You two, both apparently lonely souls, seemed to have a special connection with each other.

Whenever your mind entertained the thought that things could have been different between you, you shook your head to clear it away. After all, did you really think that you’d ever be able to be with a Princess of Equestria?
