Chapter 2: The Bridge

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Blood awoke early the next morning. The sun was just starting to rise. He figured the girls would still be asleep. He got out of bed and slipped on his boxers and a t shirt before sliding on downstairs to make some breakfast. He started making a pot of coffee before he grabbed some eggs and bacon out of the fridge and began cooking. The smell wondered it’s way into the girls sleeping area and Fluttershy slowly awoke. She wondered her way into the kitchen.

“Sure smells good.” Fluttershy said coyly.

“Yes it does. Can you wake the others it’s almost ready.” Blood requested. Fluttershy went to the other room and woke the others who quickly came to the kitchen for their breakfast. Blood also gave anyone who want it a cup of coffee. Blood opened up the blinds letting in the sunshine.

“Sure is a beautiful morning.” Blood said.

“Yes indeed darling.” Rarity replied as she took a bite of her eggs. Blood and the girls sat around the table talking about life until slowly the girls started to leave.

“We’ll see ya later!” Applejack waved goodbye before climbing into her truck and driving off.

“Well now that everyone’s gone what now?” Fluttershy asked.

“You go to work at 2 right?” Blood asked.

“Yes I do.” Fluttershy replied.

“How about a tour of the town?” Blood asked.

“Oh man you’re right you don’t know your way around.” Fluttershy said.

“I’ll go throw on more clothes.” Blood said before rushing upstairs and throwing on better clothing.

About 15 minutes later Blood and Fluttershy we’re leaving the neighborhood driving Blood’s car.

“Now over there is Sugarcube Corner, that’s where Pinkie works. Ifyou can’t find me after school that’s probably where I am along with the girls.” Fluttershy said.

“Alright then.” Blood replied before rounding a corner and seeing the large school ahead.

“That’s the school.” Fluttershy explained.

“Damn that’s a large school. Certainly bigger then my old one.” Blood said.

“It also has a pool.” Fluttershy retorted.

“Cool.” Blood replied.

The tour of the town continued until Blood pulled into Fluttershy’s place of work.

“Wait here while I go talk to Tree Hugger.” Fluttershy said before walking into the store. Blood let out a soft sigh and reclined back. He was about to close his eyes and stray into thought when he noticed a person standing in the middle of the road. He turned around and saw it was the same girl from last night and he could see her much more clearly. She was the most beautiful woman Blood had seen. He noticed that she looked sad and her clothes were a bit thin and torn.

”Is she homeless?” Blood thought to himself. He opened the door to try and talk to her when Fluttershy opened the shop door. The girl quickly turned and walked away from the shop.

“Who was that?” Fluttershy asked.

“I don’t know. She was standing outside our house last night.” Blood explained.

“Some kind of creepy stalker?” Fluttershy asked.

“I don’t know..I’m going to be honest she’s kind of beautiful.” Blood said. Fluttershy giggled a bit.

“Ooo big brother is in love. Well what did she look like?” Fluttershy asked.

“Well she looks around our age. About as tall as you. She had cyan colored eyes and her hair looked like fire-“ Blood began. Fluttershy’s look dropped. The girl he saw was Sunset Shimmer!

“-and she looked kinda sad. And her clothing was thin and torn. I think she could be homeless.” Blood finished the description of Fluttershy's ex-friend.

"She isn't." Fluttershy said a bit coldly.

"You know her?" Blood asked.

"You could say that. She goes to CHS." Fluttershy explained.

"Sweet." Blood replied.

Fluttershy wanted to tell Blood about Anon-a-miss but she didn't want him distracted from work.

"Tree Hugger wants to meet you." Fluttershy said quickly changing the subject.

"Alright then." Blood replied. Both he and Fluttershy walked into the store and standing behind the counter was a woman who had long brown hair, retro sunglasses, and a peace necklace.

"Greetings." Tree Hugger said reaching her hand.

"Hello." Blood replied reaching out his hand and shaking Tree Hugger's hand.

"Fluttershy has put in a very good word. If you'd just fill out this paperwork I'll get you to work." Tree Hugger said grabbing a small pile of papers. Blood quickly grabbed a pencil and filled out the papers. The process took about half an hour. He gave Tree Hugger the papers and she went into her office and filed everything through before coming back.

"Alright your hired. I don't have any need for you now adoptions don't start will Wedensday. Would you be kind to report in?" Tree Hugger asked.

"Sure thing. Fluttershy I'm willing to wait out in the car for you." Blood offered.

"Nonsense. I'll call an Uber." Fluttershy replied.

"You sure?" Blood asked.

"Positive." Fluttershy replied.

"Alright then I'll have dinner waiting when you get home. See ya later." Blood said walking out the door waving goodbye. He climbed into his car and drove off. As he drove over a bridge. He saw Sunset Shimmer. She was hanging off the side looking down at the water below! Blood quickly stopped his car and got out rushing towards her.

"DON'T DO IT!" Blood shouted. Sunset quickly looked behind her.

"Stay back! Don't come any closer!" Sunset cried.

"Come on. Take my hand and I'll pull you back." Blood said reaching his hand out.

"NO! Stay where you are! I'll jump! I MEAN IT!" Sunset shouted. Blood got closer.

"No you won't." Sunset couldn't believe what he just said.

"What? Don't presume to tell me what I will and will not do you don't know me!" Sunset said annoyed.

"You would have done it already." Blood explained.

"You are distracting me. NOW GO AWAY!" Sunset shouted getting angrier.

"Not happening. I'm involved now. You let go and I'm gonna have to jump in after you." Blood said beginning to take off his jacket.

"You're crazy! You'll be killed." Sunset said in a bit of a softer tone.

"I'm a good swimmer." Blood replied beginning to take off his shoes.

"The fall alone would kill you." Sunset replied.

"Oh it would hurt. Not saying it wouldn't. I'm more concerned about how cold the water is." Blood explained.

"How cold?" Sunset asked.

"Freezing? Maybe a couple degrees over. Ever been to Michigan?" Blood asked.

"Pardon?" Sunset replied.

"They have some of the coldest winters around. A couple years ago I was fishing out in a frozen pond with my uncle. Ice was weak and gave out under me, and I'm telling you. Water that cold...it hits you like a thousand knives stabbing all over your body. You can't breathe and you can't think. Least not about anything but the pain. Kind of why I'm not looking forward to jumping in there after you. But like I said, I don't have a choice." Blood said. Sunset looked at Blood not believing what she was hearing. A stranger she doesn't even know offering to jump into freezing water for her? Even if he was..kinda cute.

"Just hoping you climb back over the rail. Get me off the hook here."

"You're crazy!" Sunset replied.

"That's what everyone says but..with all due respect, I'm not the one hanging off a bridge. Come just give me your hand. You don't wanna do this." Blood said extending his hand. Sunset slowly took his hand. It felt warm despite the cold. She slowly turned back around and climbed back over the railing.

"There we go." Blood said smiling.

"Where's your home?" Blood asked.

"Over there." Sunset said pointing towards a small run-down apartment building.

"Christ that thing looks like it'll cave in any second. How do you stay warm in winter?" Blood asked.

"It's better than nothing." Sunset replied quietly.

"Well, I'm not letting you stay there. It's supposed to drop down to -4 degrees tonight. I'll let you stay at me and my sisters' place." Blood said throwing back on his shoes and coat.

"And how do I know you and your sister aren't criminals?" Sunset replied jokingly.

"Oh relax we aren't." Blood said chuckling leading Sunset to his car and opening the door for her.

"Thank you." Sunset replied getting in. Blood got back into his car and drove back off towards his home.

"What's your name Miss?" Blood asked.

"Sunset..Sunset Shimmer." Sunset replied.

"That's a pretty name. My name is Breeze Shy but feel free to call me Blood." Blood replied.

"Yeah I'll just stick with Breeze." Sunset said giggling.
