Rainbow Dash suddenly found herself in the middle of an entirely austere, blank white reality. Looking around she found that she couldn’t spot a horizon, nor any signs of a solid ground below her. Indeed, she was floating through seeming nothingness.

“Am I dead?” she asked alive, hoping for an answer from whatever god or entity controlled this reality.

“No you aren’t my dear friend,” said a deep female voice.

Suddenly, there was a bright flash and then Princess Luna appeared directly in front of Rainbow Dash.

“Hello there Princess Luna,” said Rainbow Dash, quickly bending forward to bow to the Lunar Princess and Controller of Pony Dreams.

“Please rise my friend. I’m certain you would like an explanation about where you are.”

“That would be awesome.”

“You are in the reality between dreams. Here is where I peer into dreams. This reality may appear as a blank white slate to regular ponies such as you. However, I’m currently viewing millions of pony dreams as we speak.”

“What am I doing here?” asked Rainbow Dash.

“I believe that you may have accidently left your dream and somehow managed to penetrate this magic dimension.”

“I’m not in trouble?” asked Dashie worried.

“Not at all. This happens once every couple of days. Eventually all interlooping ponies wake up and in most cases they forget the experience all together.”

“I see. Well don’t worry about me Princess. I’ll let you get back to peering into people’s dreams.”

Rainbow Dash suddenly realized something. If Luna observed and occasionally meddled in pony’s dreams, did that mean that she had just witnessed Dashie’s most recent dream about Fluttershy?

“Um, Princess, how much of that dream did you see?”

“I see all dreams Ms. Dash. It is my job to fight any real demons that might harm you in your dream.”

Dashie blushed in embarrassment. Luna had been privy to all her romantic dreams about Fluttershy.

“Don’t you worry Ms. Dash, your secret admiration of Fluttershy is safe with me.”

This prompted Rainbow Dash to let out a sigh of relief.

“However, based on your various dreams I sense a great deal of inner turmoil within you over this topic. If you wish we could discuss it with you.”

“I appreciate your offer. Really, I do. But I’ll have to pass.”

“I respect your wishes Ms. Dash. I just want you to know that I’ve been through a similar situation myself.”

“Really?” This factoid intrigued Rainbow Dash. The Princess, a lesbian?

“So you’re also a lesbian?”

“Actually, I’m bi,” said Luna, blushing at the revelation. “For several thousands of years I’ve shared an attraction to members of both genders. However, it wasn’t until recently that I developed the courage to act on my attraction to fellow mares.”

“Over the past couple of years I’ve developed a crush on your friend Twilight-”

“Wait, you have a crush on Twi?!” interrupted Rainbow Dash.

“Um, well yes, I did.”

“Aww that’s so cute,” fawned Dashie.

“Oh… thank you. That’s very kind of you.”

“Think nothing of it Princess!”

“Where was I? Oh yes! Eventually I gained the nerve to ask her out. We went out on a handful of dates before going our separate ways.”

“I’m sorry to hear that,” said Rainbow Dash.

“Don’t be. Even though things didn’t work out between me and your friend, it helped me overcome my fears. Since then I’ve found a stable and loving relationship with another marefriend of mine.”

“Good for you,” said Rainbow Dash.

“What I’m trying to say is that you shouldn’t be afraid of telling Fluttershy your feelings. Either things will work out or they won’t. Either way, you would have freed yourself from having to hide your feelings from her.”

“I’m just scared. You, as a royal, don’t have to worry about being arrested for being a homosexual. I as a commoner do.”

Luna paused for a moment before continuing, “I know it’s dangerous for you to do so, but I think you can trust Fluttershy to be discreet, even if she turns you down.”

“I suppose…”

“How long have you had a crush on her?” asked Luna.

“For nearly ten years. It all started when I was in high school with her.”

“I’m listening,” prompted Luna.

“I had known her since attending flight school with her nearly a decade before that. However, I had only viewed her as a close friend.”

“What changed?”

“Well, one time at a slumber party with some of my mare friends we played a game of truth or dare that... got a bit out of hand. I wound up making out with one of my friends.”

“I’m surprised at you!” said Luna.

Rainbow Dash, blushing, said, “I was a very different mare back then.”

“Back to your story.”

“Oh yes! Up to that point I had identified as ‘straight’ and had gone out on dates with several stallions. However, I enjoyed kissing my friend way more than I had ever enjoyed kissing any guy. Additionally, I had noticed that I had routinely found myself physically attracted to many of my mare friends.”

“Let me guess what happens next,” interrupted Luna. “You questioned your sexuality and then realized your a lesbian or bisexual.”

“Well, yeah. I initially wasn’t attracted to Fluttershy. After all, we had been friends since we were children. However, a few months later, my mother passed away. She was so kind in her emotional support of me. I gradually came to love and adore her. However, unlike the other girls that I had been attracted to in the past, this was a genuine affection as a opposed to a mere physical attraction.”

“I can understand why you like her so much. She is truly a gentle and sweet mare.”

“I know, she’s a real saint.”

“Do your parents know about your feelings?”

“They’re both dead. My father passed away five years ago,” responded Rainbow Dash, her voice cracking.

“I’m sorry- I didn’t know that.”

“It’s okay.”

"Sometimes it takes tradgedy to show us a path we didn't know existed," said Luna solemnly.

"I suppose your right Princess Luna."

“While I'm enjoying this conversation that we're having, I think that it’s time that you wake up,” said Luna, suddenly.

“Why is that?” asked Rainbow Dash.

“It’s morning where your at.”

“Ohh yeah… duh!” said Rainbow Dash, embarrassed.

Suddenly the cold, white dream dimension she was in was replaced by the soft light of a winter morning.
