Chapter 44: Chapter 13: A Letter from Twilight

Twilight’s Castle Ponyville

Twilight sat in her study, reading the latest reports on the macroeconomic situation in Equestria. According to the latest reports, the economy of Equestria, while performing well, was still struggling to meet the economic goals set by Celestia five year prior. Of course her government didn’t let on about the true economic situation in the country for fear of provoking unrest.
Twilight felt bad about concealing the truth from her fellow citizens, but she didn’t want to let down Celestia by leaking this economic data. She was after all her most faithful student. Her guilt ridden worries were interrupted by Spike walking through the door.
“Hey Twilight. I just received a new letter from Cadence,” said Spike holding out a tied up scroll. “It’s for you.”
“Thanks,” said Twilight as she floated the scroll over to herself.
Rolling the scroll out on her desk, Twilight began reading the long-awaited letter.

Dear Twilight,

I hope that my letter finds you well and in good health. Life here in the Crystal Empire is good (as always). Flurry Heart is growing and maturing into a young and healthy filly. Your brother is as adorable and sweet as ever.

I’m writing you to inform you that we’ll be visiting Equestria next month and we were wondering if you or Starlight could babysit our daughter for us. After the magnificent job that you did last year taking care of her, we believe that you’re the perfect babysitter for her. Please let us know if you’re available.
Sincerely,
Princess Mi’Amore Cadenza of the Crystal Empire

P.S. Hey Twily, I can’t wait to see my LSBFF (Little Sister Best Friend Forever). I can’t wait to catch up on how life is like back in Equestria.

Twilight turned around to face Spike, her adopted brother. “Take a letter Spike.”

Spike, diligent as ever, grabbed a piece of parchment and a quill. “I’m ready when you are Twilight.”

Twilight cleared her throat before dictating her letter.

“Dear Cadence,

I’m elated to receive your letter. I’m glad to hear that all is well in both your kingdom and homelife. As to your question about whether or not I’m capable of babysitting Flurry Heart during your state visit, I can answer in the affirmative. I enjoy our bonding time and look forward to more time with her. Here in Ponyville, I’ve been extremely busy and as such I will welcome any respite from my daily work in the affairs of state.

My puil Starlight Glimmer has continued to be a valuable asset against the various threats and monsters that have menaced the citizens of Equestria. Additionally, she continues progress in reforming her personality and becoming resocialized into Equestrian political values and social norms. She has grown into one of my closest confidants and friends over the past couple of months.

My friends here in Ponyville continue advancing their careers and life dreams. Fluttershy recently opened a ‘sanctuary for animals,’ overcoming the obstacles created by the obtuse aides that she hired for the job. The Apple family continues their work on the farm, hoping to surpass the bumper crop that they produced in the previous harvest.

Rarity opened a new boutique in the United States, her first outside of the Equestrian world. According to her, it's been a magnificent success. Rainbow Dash has continued to fulfill her dream of becoming a Wonderbolt. Lately they’ve been busier than usual, preparing for a tour of the human world.

Last but not least, Pinkie Pie has been continuing her hard work as a baker at Sugarcube Corner. According to her, the Cakes (the owner of Sugarcube Corner) are considering retiring and giving the bakery over to her to run. If this is true, I have no doubt that Pinkie will continue to help that business to grow and to expand.

While I would love to tell you more about how life is like here in Ponyville, I will wait to do so when you come to visit in a month’s time. Until then, best of luck with running the Crystal Empire!”

Sincerely,

Twilight Sparkle

Author's Notes:

I'll be gone on a trip over the weekend and will likely be too busy to update during that time. I hope that this update will hold you during that time. There are only a couple more "slice of life" updates left in my pre-write before we get back to ponies in the Cold War :)
