Meanwhile in Macintosh’s Room,

Macintosh sat down at the table next to the bed in his room. He had finally gotten the time to sit down and read the letter he had gotten the previous day in the mail from a certain special pony. A pony named Marble Pie.

The two of them had started secretly sending each other letters in the mail shortly after their families had meet two and a half years before for Hearth's Warming Eve. Despite their quiet nature, the two of them were both entirely capable and willing to keep up an epistolary dialogue with each other. Marble in particular was very talented at the art of letter writing, always expertly crafting a letter to Macintosh that simultaneously helped build upon their relationship, kept Macintosh up to date with latest news on the Pie Rock Farm, and of course always making sure to include a fact or two from Maud Pie about rocks.
Opening the letter, he laid the parchment out on his desk and began reading.
“Dearest Macintosh,

I’m sorry for not swiftly responding to your last letter. The past two weeks since I’ve received your last letter have been hectic. My family has been busy wrapping up collecting rocks on our farm in the lead up to our vacation to Canterlot. I had begged them to chose Ponyville, however my parents said that visiting my ill aunt in the capitol was more pressing. I can’t wait till we meet face to face again. I really enjoy our talking with you whenever we meet, even if a lot of words aren’t said!

I recently told my parents about our letters. They think that it is cute that I have a boyfriend. The fact that my parents chose to homeschool me, combined with my shyness means that I never really got an opportunity to date a stallion while growing up. Let’s just say that I’m disappointed in my first boyfriend.

I haven’t informed Pinkie about our relationship. I know that she has difficulty keeping promises when it comes to extremely juicy bits of gossip. Limestone is of course disapproving. She is very protective, of those whom she loves. However, I think that she is warming up to me writing to you.

Love,

Marble Pie
P.S. Maud Pie here with a random fact that will ‘rock’ your world. It is estimated that 100,000 tons of rock a year fall to earth from space. The largest known meteorite in the world lies in the ground in Africa and weighs more than 60 tons.”

Macintosh read and reread the letter several times, savouring every word that came from his love. Laying out a piece of paper and grabbing a pen and quill with his mouth, the red stallion began to write his response.

“Dearest Marble Pie,

I thank you for the amazing letter that you sent me. I treasure every word that you say to me, may it be in person or in writing. Here on the farm everything is going marvelously. We expect to have a bumper crop this year. I’ll make sure to bring some of our family’s famous apple cider when we visit you guys in half a year.
I’m glad that your parents are so accepting of our relationship. I myself have let Applejack and Granny Smith know a little about our letter based correspondence, as well as the romantic based nature of it.
I haven’t told Applebloom yet. She has been pestering me and another filly named Cherilee to date for the past couple of years. She claims that we would be ‘perfect for each other.’ However the two of us both have tried to tell Applebloom that we only view each other as friends, to no avail. I have more or less given up in trying to dissuade her from trying to put us together. I honestly think that it is rather cute and I wouldn’t want to harm her innocent fun by telling her that I’m already committed to someone else. I hope you understand.
I’ll write you a longer letter when I can. I appreciate our little correspondence. I love you alot and I can’t wait to talk with you again.
Yours Truly,
‘Big Mac’ Apples”

Macintosh picked up the letter and folded it before stuffing it inside an envelope. Licking the envelope shut, he proceeded to put a .40 PonyBit stamp on there (adorned by none other than Princess Twilight.) Later he would have to leave it in the mail box for Derpy Hooves to pick up.

Looking outside, he spotted Applebloom, Sweetiebelle, and Scootaloo kicking a ball around. He was proud of the mare that Applebloom was growing into. Over the past couple of years, both him and Applejack had been saving up money to send her to college. The two of them hadn’t been able to go to university due to the poor financial situation that the farm was in after their parent death. The young Applebloom would be the first of the Apple family to go to college. Macintosh was proud to be playing a part in that.

“Hopefully all of her dreams come true,” he thought to himself. When he was her age, he dreamed of becoming a well-published novelist. However, his responsibilities to the farm and his family had taken a priority over his literary dreams.
“At least he could use some of his prosaic skills when writing to Marble,” he thought to himself, sighing at the thought of the life he never got to live.
