Chapter 2: Awakening

Two Days Later

Canterlot General Hospital

When Twilight opened her eyes, all she could see were a series of colourful blurs hovering over her and a blindingly bright light behind them.

“Ugh,” she moaned unsure if she was dead. Her body, and especially her horn, ached with pain.

Suddenly the pink blur shot all over the room.

“OhmygoshOhmygoshOhmygoshOhmygosh! She’s alive!” screamed the instantly familiar voice.

“Oh Pinkie Pie,” thought Twilight to herself. Her vision improving, she was able to make out her seven friends

“How you doing Sugarcube?” asked Applejack, her nice and warm tone, always caring as usual.

“We were worried sick about you,” said Fluttershy, her demure voice barely above a whisper.

At least my friends haven’t changed, thought Twilight to herself.

“I’m doing fine,” she responded. Looking around the room she was in, she noticed she was inside what appeared to be a hospital room. Twilight noticed that she was dressed inside a green hospital gown. Undoubtedly Rarity is probably revolted at my appearance, she mused.

“Am I in a hospital? How did I get here?” asked Twilight. She was unsure of whether or not the spell she and the other Princesses had cast had worked.

“Well Sugarcube,” started Applejack, “two days ago, all across Equestria, and even other countries there was a giant flash of white light. And one second after it started it immediately went away, lickity split! Oh you should have seen it, it was purer and whiter than anything anypony had ever seen-”

“Get to the point, AJ!” whined Rainbow Dash, her attitude apparently unchanged.

“I was getting there Rainbow!” scowled Applejack. Turning her attention, back to Twilight, she continued, “Anyways, as I was saying. After that, some of the royal guards ran in to check on you and your princess pals and found you unconscious and your hearts not beating.”

This detail caused Twilight’s eyes to shoot wide open. That’s what caused her to pass out during her journey through the Void. Her heart had stopped. Stopped. Her morbid fascination turned to panic. She had just had a near death experience!

What about the other princesses. How were Celestia, Luna, or Cadence. Twilight felt a wave of guilt coarse through her. How could she have been so self-centered, putting thoughts about the wellbeing of friends and relatives before thoughts about her own.

Sensing the shock that Twilight was experiencing, Applejack continued, “fortunately the paramedics were able to save both you and the other three princesses lives’. We’re glad to have you alive, Twi.”

“What about the other Princesses? You said they are alive. In what condition are they?” asked Twilight.

Applejack responded, “They are mighty fine. Cadence, your brother, and your parents are in the other room. I’m sure they will be happy to see that you are up and awake.”

“And Luna and Celestia…”

“Well Sugarplumb, Luna was actually the very first one of y’all to come out of a coma. Last night, she addressed that nation via radio and explained this whole business about the ‘Flash’ as many are calling it. Apparently, some asteroid was headed to destroy Equestria and there was nothing that the Princesses could do to stop it. Something ‘bout a magic curse or something. Anyhoo, they said that y’all Alicorns cast some ancient spell to teleport our planet’s continent onto another’s and that she and Celestia would try and contact the native ponies and ‘humans’ or whatever they are called.”

“It worked…” muttered Twilight to herself. Her and her friends were safe, at least from the asteroid. That was a relief.

“You mind telling us about this spell, Twilight,” inquired Rarity, breaking her silence. Being her fabulous self, she of course had worn a giant hat to visit her friend in the hospital.

Twilight spent the next hour or so explaining the intricate details of the spell and the reasoning behind Celestia’s decision to “migrate” Equestria and the other lands of the Equestrian planet to this planet. Twilight being Twilight, she got so engrossed in all of the intimate details, she forgot to stay on point, remaining oblivious to the growing annoyance of her friends.

“So how did you experience ‘the Flash!’” inquired Pinkie Pie, the only member of Twilight’s posse who was enjoying every detail of the story.

“I didn’t experience it actually.” replied the Princess of Friendship.

This got everyone’s attention.

“How couldn’t have you?” asked Applejack.

“Yah, like everypony, everywhere saw it!” said Rainbow Dash, hovering in the air like a hummingbird, as per usual.

“What I experienced, was a… let’s just say different,” replied Twilight.

“Well do certainly tell us more,” pleaded Rarity.

Twilight, spent the next hour telling her friends all about what she had experienced during her journey from the old world to this one. Her friends were taken in by her vivid description. The darkness at the beginning, the full and rich spectrum of colours (Rainbow Dash really liked this part), and the final and painful crash at the end of the spell (prompting a gasp for concern from Fluttershy.)

“And that’s how I got to where I am right now,” concluded Twilight.

A sense of sombriety fell upon the group, they all reached in and hugged the alicorn that had united them all in friendship years before. This moment of gravity was interrupted by the sudden appearance of a certain draconequus.

“Ta-de-la,” said Discord, his face changed to appear as a clown, Twilight’s secret phobia.

“Ah!” she screamed, recoiling in horror. Realizing who it was, she shifted her face from a face of horror to a scowl.

“Discord!” yelled Fluttershy, her scolding decibel level barely above that of a normal ponies speaking voice, “You shouldn’t scare a pony like that. You could have given Twilight a heart attack.”

“Nonsense, Flutters!” replied the Lord of Chaos, as he changed his face back to normal, a slight smirk spreading across his face.

“I’m sure that as the Element of Magic, Twilight can easily fend off an attack from a hooffull of hearts,” he said, before snapping his fingers. Instantly a tiny army of heart suited playing cards appeared on the Twilight’s bed.

“Cut it out Discord!” yelled Fluttershy, the Element of Kindness’ voice climbing to a roar.

“Oh fine,” he said sighing as he snapped his fingers and made the animate playing cards poof out of existence.

Seeing that Rainbow Dash was struggling to stifle a laugh, Discord said, “I see that at least somepony enjoys my sense of humour.”

Everyone turned to stare at Rainbow Dash as she burst out laughing.

“RD, did you know about Discord’s prank on Twilight?” asked Applejack angrily.

“Nope, I can’t help, but laugh at a good prank! Ha-Ha!” responded Rainbow Dash, her infectious laughter drawing a giggle from everypony in the room, including even Twilight herself.

Applejack, turned back to Twilight, “Look Sugarcube, as much as we would enjoy yapping with you, I think it would be best if we let you spend some time with your family-”

“Wait-” said Twilight, “ you didn’t tell me about how Celestia is doing.”

“Oh yah,” said Applejack. “Well she came to early this morning. She’s in good condition according to the doctors. She will probably take back her government powers from Luna in a handful of days. Right now she’s a bit wacko, from all the painkillers she’s on-”

“Painkillers?!” inquired Twilight worriedly.

“Well, yeah Twilight, you mentioned that she was the main person performing the spell so that would explain why she still feels extremely sore. According to the doctors there’s nothing to explain it other than some magic fatigue.”

Still seeing the worry in Twilight’s eye, Applejack continued, “Don’t you worry Twilight, she’ll be fine. Afterall, she’s faced worse problems than a couple sore spots.”

“You’re right AJ. I’m just worked up over nothing,” replied Twilight. I’ll see you guys later okay.”

“Sure thing Sugarcube!” replied the apple farmer with her favorite pet name.

With that, Twilight’s closest friends all filed out of her room, leaving her in solitude.
