One Hour Later,
Sunburst’s Study, Crystal Empire

Sunburst was hard at work learning and memorizing new spells from the textbook that his teacher, Princess Cadance, had provided him. While Levitation Spells for Dummies was a dry read. He still appreciated the fact that she, the busy head of state of a country, had taken time to train him as her personal student.

Rising from his chair, he walked to the center of the room. He would need a lot of room for the self-levitation spell that he was about to perform. He had seen Starlight perform the spell countless times. Now it came his turn. Charging up his horn, he prepared to focus his magical energy on himself.

Suddenly, his studying was interrupted by a bright flash of light that came from behind him. Losing his concentration, he accidentally fired a magic beam into the wall in front of him, leaving a sizable pockmark that he would have to fix.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you,” said a sweet and instantly recognizable voice from behind him.

“Think nothing of it, Starlight,” replied Sunburst as he turned around to face his girlfriend. “I’m just glad that you’re visiting me.”

“I hope that I’m not interrupting anything important,” said Starlight.

“Oh, I was just practicing a spell that I’ve been struggling with. I have a test coming up tomorrow.”

“What spell would that be?” inquired Starlight.

“Oh just the standard self-levitation spell.”

“If you want, I could help you with it. I don’t mean to toot my own horn too much, however you could say that I’m a bit of a pro at that spell.” said Starlight, offering her expertise in magic to her boyfriend.

“I think I may have to take you up on that offer.”
