Chapter 6, Part 1: Gone to Look for America

Mid-Day, March 10, 1946

New York Harbor, United States of America

As Princess Luna stepped down the gangplank of her boat, she smiled and waved to the tens of thousands strong crowd of cheering humans. She had just taken her first steps in America, a land that would transform her and ultimately Equestria permanently.

For nearly a week she had been on a boat, most of her time spent either feeling seasick or studying up on American history and culture. She had also spent time interacting with the human crew of her boat. Initially, Celestia had planned to send her on an Equestrian Navy vessel. However, Luna had wanted to have an opportunity to get to know the Americans personally. Thus a deal was arranged for the United States government to send a cruise ship out to Equestria in order to transport the Princess of the Night back to America.

She hadn’t regretted that decision. Her time with the crew had proved to be at least as valuable as the books that had been provided to her by the American embassy in Canterlot. She only hoped that the people she met once she landed in America were as kind as the sailors and staff she had gotten to briefly know on her journey to the so-called “superpower.”

Waiting for her at the bottom of the gangplank was a pale man with wire-rimmed glasses whom she instantly recognized from her reading materials as Harry S. Truman, the President of the United States of America.

“It is my honor to welcome you to America, Your Majesty,” said the President.

“The honor is ours, Mr. President,” replied Luna, using the “royal we” in her response, as she extended her hoof out to the man. This shaking of hooves is such an odd custom, thought Luna to herself.

“I’m sure that we will have much to talk about and learn from each other.” said the American President. “Please follow me, I have a car ride through the fine city of New York waiting for us,” said Harry Truman, as he gestured over to the waiting automobiles.

Four Hours Later

La Guardia Field, New York, USA

Princess Luna and Harry Truman were posing for photographs in front of a machine that the American President informed her was called “an airplane.” Such a machine hadn’t existed in Equestria. There had been no need for machine based air travel, with the Pegasi fulfilling any air transportation related tasks that needed doing. Nonetheless, Luna was enthused about the prospect of trying out the latest in human technology.

The past couple of hours had been spent touring the largest city in America, with breaks being taken to meet and greet members of the American public. Mayor La Guardia of New York, for whom the airfield they were now at was named after, had also accompanied her and the President, identifying and explaining the history behind the major landmarks of the city, with buildings and structures such as the Statue of Liberty, Yankee Stadium, and the ginormous Empire State Building. The last one had impressed her the most. There were no buildings in all of Equestria that could come anywhere close to the size of the behemoth of a building.

Now that her tour of New York City was over, it was time for her to travel with the President to Washington DC, the capital of the United States.
