Six Hours Later,
Royal Canterlot Dining Hall

Twilight, sat on the left of Celestia, for the past two hours, she had remained silent during the entirety of the conversation between the humans and Celestia, electing to listen as Celestia provided an explanation as to why and how Equestria and her neighbors travelled to this world. Besides the leader of the human delegation sat a secretary, notarizing every detail coming from the mouth of Equestria’s ruler. It was clear that this dinner was as much about establishing diplomatic relations as it was about gathering information about the spectacular appearance of Equestria onto the world stage.
After explaining the story of how Equestria arrived in the human's world and providing a brief summary of her world’s recent history, Celestia and her human guest swapped roles, with her becoming the student of the other civilization’s history.
For the next hour Fred Kirtland would detail the past two centuries of human history, mainly focusing on his home country, the United States of America. Celestia listened in earnest as she heard the tale of a former colonies rise to global greatness, how it had nearly torn itself apart over the issue of slavery, and had achieved unprecedented prosperity.
Celestia was horrified to hear recounted the rise of tyranny in the previous decade and all the horrid crimes that had been committed by the so-called “Axis states” during the recent Second World War. It appeared that King Sombra and Queen Chrysalis had been outdone by the likes of a man named Hitler and his ilk. Celestia had been glad that Equestria had managed to pick just the right time to land in this world. Any earlier and Equestria could’ve been dragged into a horrid war.
“This world’s history is so complex and fascinating. I’ll have to get my hooves on a human history book sometime soon,” though Twilight to herself.
Kirtland continued explaining the world situation. According to him the major powers in the world were the “Big Three,” his own country the United States, the United Kingdom of Great Britain, and the Soviet Union.
“Please tell us more about these countries, good sir,” asked Luna, breaking her silence.
“Well Britain is our former colonial master. As I already mentioned, we achieved our independence from them in the year 1776. Since then we have become close friends, forming a “special relationship,” as some have called it due to our shared cultural and political beliefs. They also have the largest colonial empire on the face of the Earth, comprising about ¼ of the world’s land area.”
This caused Celestia’s eyes to bulge. “We will have to be on good relations with them,” thought Celestia to herself.
“And the Soviets?”
“Well they inhabit a region known formerly as Russia. Their a bunch of communists. Uncle Joe Stalin is an absolute brute. The only reason why we cooperated with that SOB is because we needed him to defeat the Nazis.”
“Why is he so bad?” inquired Celestia, seeking to learn more about the geopolitical actors that existed in this world.
Twilight butted in, “And who are these ‘communists’ you speak of.”
“Well, Stalin is known for being extremely ruthless when dealing with dissidents. He is similar to the King Sombra you mentioned when discussing the Crystal Empire, in the sense that he enslaved his own peoples.”
Turning to Twilight, Kirtland continued, “communists are people who adhere to the political ideology of Communism, more commonly known as Marxism. In a nutshell, they believe that free enterprise is bad and that an economy where the government owns all the businesses with the aim of promoting equality between the classes. It also believes that a totalitarian government need-be established in order to protect the ‘revolution’ from ‘counter-revolutionaries.’”
“Sounds a lot like what Starlight Glimmer tried to do,” thought Twilight to herself. She was impressed by the progress she had made since her redemption. It was a shame that other people were suffering as a result of an ideology similar to what she believed in.
The conversation droned on for several more hours, ranging from discussions about the post-World War II world, culture and sport in the United States and Equestria, and politics in the two countries. As both sides were on the brink of retiring for the evening, Celestia asked Kirtland if he could give her a map of the world, marked of course to indicate where Equestria was located. Kirtland of course obliged, pulling a map out of his pocket. Unfolding it on the table, he scanned for the location of where his ship had landed. Breaking out a pen, he marked a circle in the general area where Equestria was located.
For some reason, this brought some comfort to the three alicorn princesses at the table. It felt comfortable knowing where they were located in the world. Fortunately, they were close enough to a pair of continents named Europe and Africa to facilitate long term trade, while being far enough to be able to enjoy some isolation from any potential threats. Additionally, judging by the maps scale, Equestria’s size was equivalent to a country named “Ireland.”
However, the coming years and decades would prove that no matter the best efforts of Celestia, Equestria couldn’t remain isolated from the human world.
