Chapter 104: Nobody becomes Deathless

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Knowing what I know now. I have to clear this place as fast as I can, but to get stronger, I still have to take it a bit slower.

Coco was laid on the bed. I told her what I was going to do, a dive to her heart. Most likely there has to be some leftover memories from when Void Key covered it.

Coco's station of awakening was nice. It was her, the background a green field, and images of me, Rarity, and others in the family were here.

“This is nice.” I said warmly as I started to look around for what I needed. “Alright memory of where the fuck Void Key is, where are you…” I muttered while searching around. “Or...maybe there’s still a fragment here I could track...whichever comes first.”

I dived into her memories, arriving in what looked like… a kid's room? Must be in her childhood.

"Would you like Assistance?" Izzie's Voice suddenly spoke in my head.

“Thank you Izzie.” I nodded. “Can you help me find where Void Key would be in Coco’s memories? Either it’s location or if it has any remnants left?”

"Judging by surrounding and location in her heart, you landed in her childhood from age ten. To safely reach your destination of where Void Key related Memories are located, you have to find the memory of each time Void Key was mentioned to or around her in her memories. I detect one in this memory sequence."

"Cool." I said while starting to search for Void Key in this memory.

Looking around I found that touching certain things seemed to trigger memories. A cute pink dress showed me memories of Coco in a school play. An equestrian version of Rapunzel.

Finally though, a pair of bracelets showed me what I needed.

Coco was easy seven, they were in a doctor's office/Laboratory. The lady checking her was human. "Okay Coco, you know what you have to do, right?" She asked, the young filly Coco nodded, holding out her hands as a small amount of void began forming. "Good. Just hold it until I get back, alright?" She asked.

She then took leave outside the door. There, I caught a quick glance at something worrying and disturbing. Void Key, with a host. Needless to say I followed the doctor. "How is the little vessel?" Void Key asked.

"Coco, is progressing well." The doctor said. Glad she's not evil then given she used Coco's name. "The artificial Void Conduit Gene seems to be holding strong and working perfectly."

"Perfect. Out of all the hosts Nexus has made for me in these last sixty thousand years, she will be the crowning achievement." Void Key said with a laugh.

“Of course.” I growled angrily. “Also, how the fuck did they get Void Key? There’s no way in hell...Void Key was with all those other weapons in Daybreak?”

The room glowed, now it was a workshop of hers from Manehattan. The view was nice.

"I detect two memories here." Izzie Informed.

“Alright.” I nodded while flying around to find the memories. “Got any locations for those memories?” I asked considering we’re in Manehattan.

"I detect one twenty feet left of you."

“Thank you.” I nodded while moving twenty feet to the left to see what memory is here.

It was her desk, many assorted threads, needles, fabrics and all that were here. One thing that stood out was a photo of Coco and her family. Picking it up, showed me the memory.

Coco was in the Laboratory again. This time asleep and hooked up to monitors. There was a lot of people here this time. "Wasn't the Time Burner supposed to be here a while ago?" One of the doctors asked.

"They're time travelers, all of history and the present at their fingertips and no actual sense of time themselves." The same lady doctor from.the prior memory spoke. She was much older here.

Suddenly, there was a red electrical crackling at the back wall, a Time Walkers portal opened up, but with a dark red theme over the normal blue. Out from it walked someone in a red high-tech jumpsuit and mask, holding a bloody No Name Keyblade. "Sorry to keep you waiting, damn fucker just did not want to die." They said, dropping the Keyblade.

The female doctor looked quite repulsed, but cleared her throat. "So that's the last ingredient then?" She asked.

"Should be. According to Void Key."

"I'll begin the experiment." Another doctor said, taking the No Name Keyblade and placing it in Coco's unconscious hands.

Once they returned to their seats, the scientists all began typing on their computers, machines began making noise as Coco began generating void. "Void Gene activated. Switching to Fear Based Void." The void she was generating changed, now it was Void Keys. It began cloaking No Name in her hands soon it covered it, warping it's form and shape...it was now Void Key.

"Conversion successful." One of the doctors said.

“Cause of fucking course it had to be.” I growled.

"Next memory is a floor up."

“Alright.” I said while heading up a floor. “But of course Void Key just had to suddenly take over No Name...cause what else would be fine for that sack of shit…” I growled.

Heading to the next floor up was clearly where she ate and slept. The memory here was triggered when I found a small ring.

In this one, Coco was working in the same workshops that was below where I just was, sewing away. Suddenly, the sunlight vanished. She looked out her window… this was the day the Shadow Titan attacked. It smashed into her building, inches from her face when suddenly…

Coco was now elsewhere. It almost looked like… the bottom of a well. She backed up against the wall, in the center before her was a Void Key Keyblade, and The giant eyeball itself. "Can't have you dying on me now, can I?" It asked. Coco blinking again as she was now under some partial rubble being removed.

“It’s weird...Coco could have taken that hit even back then...I know it...but Void Key saved her…” I muttered. “Well, not ‘saved’ her, more like ‘moved host out of the way’ cause he certainly doesn’t give a half ounce of deep fried shit about her.’

The next area was the old castle home. This brings back memories. I found the memory fast. This one was Void Keys, because Void Key itself seemed to be here.

It was that well again, Void Key attached to a wall of sorts. Vilgax was here too. "What's my mission Master?"

"The Coco host has been freed from my influence. That mongrel managed to remove me from her heart. It's time to work on the backup. Fetch me the Admin of Fear."

"With pleasure."

“Well...looks like I’m going to have to visit her again.” I sighed out. “But I’m probably way too late on that...but better late than never.” I said as I felt one of my clones head off to find the Admin of Fear.

With that I left Coco's heart and now, the grind begins.

"Oh shit!" Coco dodged a monster Celestials spear attack, and I impaled it with my new lance form from Lindworm. This new wyvern lance has ice abilities.

“You know what grinding sessions need?” I asked honestly while cleaving through a few hundred Celestials rather quickly. “Some kickass music.” I said before pulling out Arpeggio and plucking one of the cords to start it. “God, haven’t heard this song in a while.” I sighed before pulling out Lunatic and Skysplitter before leaping into a massive crowd of the Celestials and cleaving through them swiftly. “Come on guys! The fun’s just getting started!” I said as I cleaved through hundreds of Celestials that just kept spawning.

Since exp was no longer a thing now, SP, or Skill Points, were the new exp. For me, killing 700 of these Celestials monsters earned me five. 100 earned Coco two, 700 for five also for Jericho and Kexez.

I had spent nearly all mine surprisingly raising base stats, HP, att, all that, and those cost a fuck ton the higher you make them.

“So my weapons are now based on my stats instead of level?” I asked curiously.

"Looks like." Kexez said, borrowing Sharp Shooters for this grinding session and shooting up storms of these things. "I'm already at six hundred. You guys?"

"Fourhundred and ninety." Jericho said, using his own axe and cleaving through these things. "It looks like Level was also changed. Now it's a class rank."

"Seventy. And neat." Coco said, she's also borrowing one of my Weapons. Interdiction.

“Uh...two thousand.” I said sheepishly, continuing my ever widening, and explosive, cleaves through the hoard. “I forget that I keep making massive aoe attacks every time I swing.”

"So wait, killed two thousand or earned two thousand SP? Cause we were talking about kill count." Kexez said.

“Oh…” I started. “Um...somewhere around...ten thousand already.” I said sheepishly.

"And you call Heart Boy Wonder." Jericho laughed, hacking up three more of the creatures.

“I mean...he is.” I said. “But I keep swinging and causing explosions to happen.” I said while swinging Lunatic, cleaving through one enemy and then causing a blue fiery explosion that killed twenty more. “And I’m not even trying right now…”

"Those upgrades paid off then." Kexez said, shooting off both magazines into a wall of the things.

“I mean...this would have also happened before the upgrades Lord and Cript did.” I said honestly. “And honestly, I’m not even using any of these things abilities to make this easier which is...something.”

At that moment my Assistant flashed a message in my hud.

Cleared Dungeons contain optional challenges that greatly increase the rewards given.

This is a detected Cleared Dungeon, Cleared 999,999,999,999+ times.

Each challenge offers chances at otherwise nearly impossible loot.

Browse Heroes Tomb Dungeon Challenges?

Yes / No

“Dungeon challenges?” I asked curiously, wondering what the dungeon challenges are.

Selecting yes brought up various many selections. Each from weird to fun to strange. One looked interesting.

Crippled Combat.

Reduces your stats drastically, making easy enemies hard but also increases their rare loot drops and each one kill counts for three.

“Well...that’s interesting.” I said honestly. “Hey, who wants to start doing some dungeon challenges?”

"Not much for competition. Heart and I share that dislike of them." Kexez said.

"What's available?" Jericho asked.

"Anything interesting?" Coco asked.

“Well the first one is all our stats are drastically reduced to make these enemies difficult.” I said honestly. “One kill counts for three and they have a better chance at dropping rare loot.”

"As cool as that sounds I don't think I'm ready for that." Coco said.

“That’s alright.” I nodded while checking what other challengers there are, smacking away a bunch of other trash to continue looking at what’s possible.

Seriously some of these are weird. Defeat floor seven using only a butter knife. Clear floor seven backrooms with only throwing weapons. Almost any kind of challenge no matter how insane was here. Hmm… Oh, here’s an option. Collect 1,000 Celestial Wingtip Feathers. Reward: 7 Sp, 1,000 Rem, .7043 Glock Cannon.

“Ah, there’s some collection challenges, one of them is to collect a thousand celestial wingtip feathers.” I brought up. “Sounds simple enough right?”

“Sure. What’s the rewards?” Coco asked.

“Seven SP, a thousand Rem and a .7043 Glock Cannon...whatever the hell that is.” I said honestly.

“Uh… what is that?” Coco asked. “The glock I mean.”

“There are only two other companies that rival Cript’s.” Jericho said, using a powered attack to hack sixty of these things. “Mutation Tec, and Cowles Highpower. They do almost everything that Freak Inc does, but aren’t as diplomatic as Cript. That glock is made by Mutation Tec.”

“Well that’s interesting.” I said honestly. “Well, this is a simple enough quest.” I said while taking the quest. “Now I don’t know if we literally have to take them off of the wing’s or they just get dropped…”

I gave it a quick lookup. They have a 1 in 10,000 rate of spawning, but it’s still not a guaranteed drop. Apparently brewed into a tea that acts like a complete restore potion. Removes all status effects, and gives a short double hp effect for ten minutes. That’s useful. Apparently they can only be collected on a Celestials corpse, the feathers have no power when they are alive.

“Alright, so better not blow up the corpses…” I muttered. “Or maybe it’ll just drop…” I said while looking down at the ever growing pile of loot we were just walking on.

“Well, better than nothing.” Coco said.

We all began on out challenges.

As I attacked these things with the crippeling challenge on… wait, that did HOW MUCH LESS!!!

Back in the safe room… I only did barely a tenth of their hp in damage with this challenge activated. And they hit me for nearly half! Bright side… The loot I got from their drops were impressive. I also got ten of those feathers. Coco only found two in all her kills. Jericho found six and Kexez found one.

“You know, when I saw it, I thought that my stats would be a third of what it is...not having it take the enemies stats, cutting it in half, then putting it on me.” I said honestly. “Cause even at a third I would still be able to handle a couple of them fine…” I frowned.

“Hey, at least it builds your speed and stamina.” Kexez said, breathing heavily and drying off their sweat.

“I know I know.” I said while drinking some water. “I can still complain though.”

“Heh. At least there’s now a means for us to experience challenge in combat.” Jericho said. “So, looks like those feathers are as hard to get as they say. Moreso I think.”

“I mean, I’m pretty sure that we could have found an ass ton of them considering there’s like...a foot of loot out there that we were all walking on.” I said honestly.

“No.” Coco sighed. “The challenge gave me a temporary ability to magnetically receive any nearby me. What we got and what I got was all that’s out there.”

“Shit, seriously? That must be some tea then.” Kexez said.

“That’s...outlandishly improbable but okay.” I shrugged. “So anyways...want to know some news outside this place?” I asked curiously, wondering if any of them noticed the new things happening.

“Spill it.” Jericho said.

“I’m ears.” Kexez said.

“Yes please.” Coco said.

“So...from good news to bad news…” I started. “So, a Pokemon world has now joined our Kingdom, all the legendaries and apparently The Pokemon Master, I mean the person that’s seen and done everything in that world, all joined our harem which is...over a hundred.” I started.

“Shit.” Kexez said.

“Yeah, that only happened cause Heart decided to sneak out with a Starfish Clone to said pokemon world...and then get caught by Rune and proceeded to do fuck nothing about it until I got there.” I explained. “So second good news, Heart finally grew a pair against Rune, ripped out both her hearts, and destroyed the heart that was the selfish bitch.” I said honestly. “So Runes back thankfully.”

“Wait, she had two hearts?” Coco asked.

“Huh… that would make sense. Can’t fake emotions around Heart, so cover her lack of emotions with a crafted personality that can.” Kexez said.

“So yeah.” I said. “So after that...my name is now officially King, cause I needed to...give Truth my name, while Lord gave up his Armor, and Cript...gave up all his suppressors, and magically turned into what I can only describe as if Doomsday from DC had a kid with Godzilla and was tested on by a lot of crazies.”

“Oh… So, should we all stop holding back also?” Jericho asked. “If his suppressor is removed, it would show us all how we look without holding back.”

“I’m pretty sure in Heart’s and Mine’s case we’d be X-blade amalgamations.” Kexez said.

“I mean…” I started before showing the cracks on my arms that are still healing. “This is just me doing eighty percent of Cript’s power, and that was after he gave up his suppressors.” I said honestly. “So...I figured out what Nulls are...and Jenny is one of the lazy bastards…”

“Huh.” Jericho said. “You know, that is depressing.”

“What? That the beings that are supposed to kill Glitches and make sure Cycles happen are lazy bastards? Or that Jenny and...a lot of other family members are apart of it?” I asked curiously.

“Both.” Jericho said.

“So, what’s on the agenda then?” Kexez asked.

“And that leads me to the more...bad news.” I sighed out. “So...apparently what causes the End of a Cycle, is because Grey get’s...too big, and has only been getting faster and faster...as well as Eclipsa getting kidnapped by Scotch after something happened in the Realm of Dreams.”

“Shit…” Jericho said.

“Yeah...and what’s even worse is that I figured out how to solve the problem in less than a minute upon hearing the problem.” I said. “And that’s using Grey as it’s own storage space, kind of like how certain imprisonment spells work. It uses its ever growing power to fuel it’s ‘containment’, but it’s still apart of Reality and won’t cause stupid shit to happen.” I said honestly. “How some people haven’t figured this out in god knows how long is beyond me when it’s brain dead simple.”

“They just don’t care it seems.” Kexez said.

“Clearly.” Coco said.

“Which is weird because they have said it is an ever growing problem that they believe ‘can’t be stopped’...” I sighed out. “But whatever...oh, actually, before I forget.” I said before turning my arm into a part of my X-blade form. “I’m an X-blade now...and if you didn’t feel it, me and Heart kind of...maybe accidentally broke Reality for a hot minute with me ever so gently waving my arm at a hundred percent of Hearts power.”

“Oh I felt that one. Heh, welcome to the club.” Kexez said.

“There would be only one way for us to go to a hundred percent, without risk of death… Cript would be pissed though.” Jericho said.

“Become Deathless?” I asked. “Like I originally thought we all were because we’re all the same person.”

“Yeah.” Jericho said. “There are two beings who can take someone's Death. Truth, and Vincent.”

“So we have one option.” Kexez said.

“Yeah, only one option.” I said honestly. “I…” I sighed out. “Is it wrong that I’ve thought of becoming Deathless for a while?”

“For selfish reasons, yes. But for what we’re up against, it might be mandatory.” Jericho said.

“And by ‘selfish reasons’, you mean me wanting to protect my family forever?” I asked honestly.

“No, Selfish means for dumb crap, as in soley for the power or the pure immortality.” Jericho said, standing up. “So, shall we get started?”

“Those two things are not apart of what I want.” I shook my head. “But…” I sighed out. “Should we really do that? Cript sounded like we shouldn’t do it at all.”

“Because of one reason. The long lifespan. True immortality means at some point, you start to forget the important things. Take Lord for an example. When he was the Delete Hunter, he did that for so many years because they killed his wife. All this time later, he doesn’t even remember her name, face, nothing.”

“So that’s why he always smelt like a Delete…” I muttered. “But Lord forgot what he was doing because he lost sight of what he was fighting for...me...I would never lose sight of what I care about...never…” I said, bringing a hand up and holding onto a small locket I made to make sure I knew who I was fighting for.

“Well, time to put your money where your mouth is.” Jericho said, snapping their fingers as the Human Transmutation circle under me. “Ready?”

“It’s not like I have a choice.” I said honestly.

“Alright then.” Jericho, placing hands on the circles outlines. The circle activated, and all went white.

Well, here I was, the two doors. Mine was decorated by wolves, silhouettes of my weapons. The wolves howling to the moon above them was, funny enough, Kingdom Hearts, a Keyhole in their center. “Well, didn’t expect to see you here. At least not so soon.” Truth said. Turning around they were in my white silhouette body shape. “What brings you back so soon?”

“Being Deathless is probably going to be a necessity sadly.” I sighed out. “Even though Cript will hate me for it...just...let me ask, can Deathless kill Deathless?”

“Hehe. There is one way for that to happen, how though, I won’t tell; but I will tell you this. if you and Cript fight, you two could tear each other and the whole of creation apart in the fight, and still not die.”

“I’m not surprised.” I shrugged. “But I’m pretty sure I’ll learn it and whatever else you’ll give me in exchange for my Death...I mean, besides your amusement because I’m pretty sure you like to see people be tortured by their own decisions.”

“No purer form of entertainment. And I doubt you will, but hey, be happy.” They said. I hit the floor suddenly, my insides turned as I felt something getting pulled up from out of me. Soon, following a spit of blood was the small black pearl, my death. It rolled into Truths hand. “You can finally, have answers. Not all of them, but enough.”

The door behind me opened, that Eye that reminded me of Void Key opening as those small hand/tendrils reached out and gripped me.

“Know this...I will find a way to stop all this madness.” I growled. “And we won’t be needing you ever again.”

“Oh? I look forward to seeing you struggle to that goal.”

Returning here made my head hurt… like way worse than when I drank that Asguardian ale for the first time. Needless to say, this info and shift was felt by the family. I know a lot more now, including basically finishing a lot of projects I’ve been wanting to work on or finish this whole time.

“Well...besides the splitting headache…” I groaned. “I now have finished...a lot of projects and...yeah, that stalemate is going to be long gone and none of us have to step in…” I said while getting up carefully. “Oh yeah...I also threatened Truth...that when I’m done, we won’t need him, or any of that bullshit ever again.” I brought up.

Jericho sighed, helping me out of the circle and taking my place in it. “That was dumb. Truth doesn’t see that as a threat,” He kneeled down, putting hands to the circle and activating it. “He sees it as a promise.” There was a bright flash. In just a second, less or so, But I felt that same shift as before, and Jericho was back. He looked about as bad as I felt, and likely looked. “And he’ll expect you to keep it.”

“Don’t worry.” I said. “When I say something like that, I mean it.” I said, Jericho seeing the flames of determination in my eyes. “Kexez? Coco? You want to do this as well?” I asked. “You don’t have to…” I said, honestly only having wanted myself to endure this pain for others but knowing that’s just a dumb idea.

“I’m in, good luck convincing Heart.” Kexez said.

“Okay. Hopefully will make this whole thing easier.” Coco said.

“It’s not easy…” I sighed out sadly. “It’s never easy.” I sighed out. “I know you two already said so...and I already know better, but you two don’t have to, you don’t have to bear this burden…”

“Like we’d let you two, three including Cript bare it alone.” Kexez said. “Immortality is only a hell if the people you care about are getting left behind.” They said, helping Jericho out and taking place inside the circle.

“I know…” I sighed out. “I just...wish it never got to this point...:”

“Hey, don’t worry about it.” Kexez said, giving me a thumbs up. “Like I’ve told Heart, I’ve given into our fate, a long time ago.” Giving a nod, Kexez without words told Jericho to activate the circle. Jericho did.

A flash. A sense of a shift. And the flash died down. Kexez was back, they looked tired. “Shit, that’s a rush. And I thought escaping Purgatory was a pain in the ass.”

“Yeah...becoming Deathless is a bit of a bitch.” I said honestly.

“I guess it’s my turn now.” Coco said, helping Kexez out and getting in the center.

“Alright.” I nodded. “Hopefully things keep going okay…”

"Okay. I'm ready." Coco said.

This time I activated the circle. My newfound knowledge on every aspect of Alchemy coming into play immediately.

A flash. A shift. The flash ended.

Coco was on all fours. She seemed okay, and overall just got hit harder than us.

“You okay Coco?” I asked gently while helping her up.

"Yeah. Just way more taxing than I expected."

“I understand.” I nodded gently. “Hopefully...I won’t get yelled at and shunned because of this…”

"Well, this gives us the perfect advantage now." Jericho said. "Only thing to worry about is imprisonment spells."

“And those mean nothing when you know every counter spell known in existence.” I said honestly.

"True."

“So, are we now exempt from ‘losing’ the dungeon?” I asked curiously. “Or are there rules still on it?”

"While losing, not really but we can get stuck. Use too much power, the Pain could paralyze us for a bit, not used to the pain that comes with it; or if the enemy is too strong, could get stuck for a while getting 'killed' before we even get a chance to attack." Jericho said.

“You do know that will just turn into a battle of attrition that we’ll always win right?” I asked curiously.

"Yeah but it will suck before that."

“Eh.” I shrugged. “It happens...but we’ll get used to it.”

"So, what now?" Coco asked.

"Now." Kexez said, shifting an arm into their X-Blade form. Just the arm. "We go break some bones."

“This is going to be fun.” I said while cracking my knuckles.

Nine and a half days later.

Yup…. That's every bone broken. Fuck. Even the healing hurts.

“Why must I still feel pain?” I groaned.

"Reminder." Jericho said, snapping their own jaw back into place. "Without pain, we also can't feel pleasure. Physical senses dull, emotional ones end up going soon after. Keeps us sane."

"At least you all get to go all out." Kexez said, popping their arm back into position. "I have a planets worth of women and children in me."

"And I thought Nexus's physicals hurt." Coco said, pulling a blade out from her back.

“Well...right now, we’re back and recovering so...that’s at least a plus.” I said while fixing my arm. “And hey, it only took nine and a half days.”

"Bright side, I got all the feathers." Coco said. Her challenge now complete she got her rewards. Including that Glock. It looked like an arm mounted cannon. The bullets filled MY palms. And that's without the cases.

"Start brewing that tea then." Kexez said.

“Let’s hope that Tea is worth it…” I sighed out.

There was plenty here to have a small pot with a feather in it. Once it began to boil the feather seemed to melt into the water and it glowed with a dim purple light for a minute. Soon it faded and left behind a pale brown liquid. "Doesn't look as I was expecting." Coco said.

“Cause of course it has to look pale and brown…” I sighed out while taking some of the tea. “Let’s hope it actually tastes good…”

It didn't. It didn't have much to any flavor actually. Even the taste of water was somehow missing. But the effects were instant. My HP maxed out as my bones healed twice as fast as normal. The pain was still there but they healed so fast it was quick and only lasted a few seconds at most. All in all, once it was done I felt great again.

“Ah, that’s better.” I said honestly. “Weirdly it has...no taste.”

"How is it even considered a tea then?" Kexez asked.

"It's just weird." Coco added.

"Well, back to it then. Bit more grinding and we can head for the boss room."

“Alright.” I nodded. “Back to grinding.”

To be continued...
