Chapter 1
Note from Author: I have no idea how italics work on this site so when you see the star sign * between two of them will be where italics are supposed to be! Just to let you know! If you think it needs editing I am more than happy to have some user become my editor, if you are interested for the job please say so in the comments below!

Text from the Ancient Ever-changing Equestria Book of History and Future Events (a self updating book which constantly rewrites itself once history changes and new prophecies are made), from the restricted vault of Canterlot Castle:
*Once upon a time in the magical land of Equestria there were two regal sisters who ruled together and created harmony for all the land.*
A painting is shown of up in the clouds two ponies each with a long horn and wings. One was white with a pink mane and the other one was black with a light blue mane.
*To do this the eldest used her Unicorn powers to raise the sun at dawn!*
The white pony is seen using her horn to raise the sun.
*The Younger brought out the moon to begin the night!*
The black pony is seen using her horn to bring up the moon.
*but what is not known is that soon the younger gave birth to a young prince!*
The younger sister is shown sitting down smiling as a black colt with wings, a horn and a dark green mane was sleeping by her legs and was covered by his mother’s wing.
*When he grew older the younger Prince took on the responsibility of making sure harmony was maintained in the dreams of their subjects.*
The Son now older was in the cloud smiling as he looked at the ponies asleep and they dream bubbles showed them frolicking happily in a field or spending time with their friends, family and loved ones.
*but sadly this was not to last as soon the prince’s heart somehow became corrupted by chaos and decided he was bored with maintaining harmony in the dream realm and instead started spreading nightmares in the dreams of the subjects of the land!*
The Prince is shown smirking wickedly, up in the clouds watching down beneath him as the sleeping ponies on the land had scared looks on their faces as they dream bubbles showed them being alone in a forest, about to be eaten or being attacked by monsters.
*Due to the never ending nightmares the prince was giving them the subjects were unable to sleep!*
The ponies on the ground are shown looking tired and very frightened.
*but that wasn’t enough for the corrupted prince! He wanted to have some more fun messing with the subjects and soon began making their nightmares come true in the awake world!*
Up in the clouds the Prince was on his back, laughing wickedly as the Ponies on the ground were being chased by monsters like giant snakes and hydras.
*Soon the sisters found out about this. At first they were skeptical whether it was the Prince behind this, the younger in particularly stubbornly refused to believe her darling son was capable of such evil acts but once they saw with their own eyes what the Prince was doing they knew they had no choice but to act. The elder sister tried to reason with her nephew and the younger practically begged her son to stop the madness but the Prince being too corrupted by the power of chaos ignored them!*
The two sisters are shown talking to the Prince. The elder sister looked concerned; the younger sister was on her knees while the Prince just turned his head ignoring them.
*faced with no other option relucantly the princesses used their powers to banish the Prince into a dark cave.*
The Prince is shown being banished to a cave. The elder sister looks sad while the younger had her head down crying tears for her only son.
*as he was banished the Prince swore he would return and bring nightmares to Equestria!*
The Prince is shown seething as he sits in the cave alone, with a calculating look on his face.
*After he was banished the sisters since they did not have the power to control dreams themselves, managed to cast a spell at their subjects allowing their dreams to run themselves and as such sometimes they would get nightmares and sometimes they would get sweet dreams depending on what was on their minds.*
Ponies on the ground are shown sleeping with their dream bubbles eaither showing a sweet dream or a nightmare.
*more than a thousand years have passed and the Prince is still trapped in the cave he was banished, to but what he doesn’t know yet is that he won’t be trapped there for much longer!*
The Prince is shown sleeping in his cave.
*Modern Day*
Outside the limits of the land of Equestria in a small old abandoned rundown condemned village (which had been abandoned around the time when Princess Luna first became Nightmare Moon) that by some miracle somehow managed to stand even after nopony living there for more than a thousand years, there rested the Changelings who had chosen to use the village as their domains after their failed invasion of Canterlot at the royal wedding a few months ago.
Inside one of the cottages resting in a bed was the Changeling Queen who had managed to absorb enough of the love of Princess Cadence and Shining Armour to stabilise herself and her subjects for the past few months.
The Queen in her bed seethed, if she hadn’t put that meddling unicorn Twilight in the mimes, Cadence wouldn’t have escaped, she and Shining Armor would never have performed their love spell and she and her subjects would be ruling over all of Equestria right now feeding off all of the love they want from the hapless ponies that lived there.
The Queen looked at the subjects in front of her bed looking concerned and worried at their Queen’s current state of distress and they were using their love for their queen to give her more power to stabilise herself.
“It’s alright my children” assured the Changeling Queen as she considered her Changeling hive to be her children “I promise you all soon we will be able to come up with a new plan and strike again! Soon.....very soon indeed!”
The Changeling Queen managed to let out a laugh and her mind began formulating a plan.
Our story rightfully begins far away from the village where the Changelings are, more precisely in the Everfree Forest in Ponyville.....
Chapter 2
Note from Author: I will not let all these critics get me down! Also I do admit the song was filler and I apologise for that and I've fixed it. I do know the Changeling Queen had a name but they characters never found out what that name was so I won’t have it revealed until the queen introduces herself! Also a warning: I am AWFUL at rhyming so please excuse how bad Zecora’s words are. also I will do my best to make sure Thorn doesn't turn out tobe a mary sue and I assure you there is a reason why he suddenly turned evil those years ago which will be explained in a future chapter!
It was late in the afternoon in Zecora’s Hut the Everfree Forest as Twilight Sparkle was talking to Zecora.
“Thank you kind pony for helping me and that you didn’t mind coming out here to help” Zecora said as Twilight had brought some herbs Zecora had asked her to bring for a potion she was working on.
“You’re more than welcome Zecora” said Twilight getting up with her bag around her neck “I had better get going before it gets too dark!”
“Be careful Twilight and make sure you don’t stump as things do go bump in the night!” Zecora warned as Twilight exited.
Twilight went down the path to Ponyville and a few minutes later she saw a band of timber wolves blocking the path, looking at her with a hungry look in their eyes as they were growling.
“.....Nice wolves......nice” said Twilight weakly as they began steadily waking up to her. She then began running away screaming in the opposite direction as the wolves began chasing her.
After fifteen minutes Twilight believed she had outran the wolves but saw she was in an unknown part of the woods. “Hello?” she yelled out and her voice echoed throughout the forest scaring some birds.
After a few more minutes of wondering she came across black lizard creatures that looked kind of like the Changelings.
“What are these things” wonder Twilight as she began to freak out. She then saw more of these creatures come closer to her. Freaking out she began running away again.
Because she was too scared to think straight while she was running she tripped on a tree branch and fell her head landing on a rock.
The creatures began walking towards Twilight’s unconscious body ready to go for their next meal, when a figure in a red cloak leaped in front of Twilight’s body and casted a bright green spell from its horn blinding the creatures.
“What do we have here?” the figure asked himself before dragging Twilight to somewhere safe.
Hours later morning dawned in Ponyville and Spike was outside searching for Twilight. Soon the rest of the Mane Six came up to Spike.
“Eh Spike what are you doing?” Pinkie asked the young dragon.
“Looking for Twilight” Spike said worriedly “last night she went out to do an errand and hasn’t come back since!”
“WHAT?” asked the remaining Mane Six in disbelief.
“Did she say where she was going?” asked Applejack.
“No she didn’t say a word about where she was going?” Spike said shaking his head “what if something happens to her!!!”
“Don’t worry Spike” Pinkie said trying to reassure him “we will find her, won’t we girls!”
The rest of the Mane Six nodded. “I will go ask everypony if they seen her” Pinkie said bouncing away.
“I will go check at Sweet Apple Acres” said Applejack trotting off to the farm where she lived.
“I will fly over and see if I can see her” Rainbow Dash then said using her wings to fly off.
“I will go check at the market” Rarity said going off to the Ponyville market.
“And I’ll go ask my animal friends if they’ve seen her” said Fluttershy walking home to her cottage.
“*I just hope she is alright*” thought Spike worrying about her lifelong best friend.
Twilight found herself in a large field and on a picnic blanket with a basket. “*Where am I?*” thought Twilight looking around.
Curiously she opened the basket and saw it had several daisy sandwiches, cupcakes and some of her favourite foods. Looking around and seeing nopony else was around she started tucking into them.
Then suddenly she saw around her was all her friends, her parents, Shining Armor, Cadence, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna.
“Enjoying your picnic Twilight dear?” asked Twilight’s father.
“How did you just suddenly appear as if out of nowhere?” asked Twilight confused.
“Anything can happen when you’re dreaming Twiley!” said Shining Armor with a smile.
“I’m dreaming?” asked Twilight confused and then she saw them disappearing.
Twilight then woke up in a four poster bed which except for the pillow, quilt and mattress seemed to be made of rocks and she was in a room in what seemed like a strangely brightly lit cave. She was a figure walked out of the room, apparently the one who brought him here.
“Wait!” called out Twilight rushing out of the bed after him, wanting to thank whoever it was who saved her from those creatures.
Twilight managed to catch up to and stood on his cloak dragging it off. The figure then faced her. He was a little taller than her, his fur was black, his mane was dark green, his eyes were dark green, he had wings and a horn meaning he was an allicorn and his cutie mark was a dark green shape which was too odd to describe.
Looking fearful Twilight asked “did you bring me here?”
The allicorn chuckled and with a smile he said “oh dear where are my manners, what kind of host am I? Yes I did I saw you about to be killed by the Dawnstalkers and I decided to help out.”
“Dawnstalkers?” asked Twilight.
“Yes Dawnstalkers” said the allicorn “nocturnal creatures that like to roam the forest at night looking for their next meals!”
“Who are you anyway?” asked Twilight.
“My name is Thorn” said the allicorn “may I ask who you are?”
“Twilight Sparkle faithful student to Princess Celestia” Twilight said introducing herself, Thorn cringing a little when she mention the princess.
“Twilight Sparkle?” asked Thorn “what a beautiful name, fitting for a beautiful mare like yourself!”
“This cave is nice, don’t get me wrong but why do you live here?” asked Twilight perplex blushing a little from Thorn's comment.
Thorn sighed and said “I actually really don’t have much of a choice but to stay here!”
“Why not?” asked Twilight confused.
“Long ago I had been banished to this very cave” said Thorn “but I have used my magic to make it more homely!”
“Banished?” asked Twilight surprised.
“Yes” said Thorn nodding “want me to explain why?”
Twilight nodded enthusiastically. Thorn sighed and began his tale....
Chapter 3
Here is a new set up for the story starting the next chapter; each chapter from now on will have a song attached to the beginning relating to a scenario or possibly the story as a whole. Feel free to suggest future songs!
“You are aware that Celestia and Luna brings forth the sun and moon” asked Thorn and Twilight nodded.
“Well over a thousand years ago there was a prince who was put in charge of the dreams” Thorn said.
“You?” asked Twilight and Thorn nodded.
“Just curious but how are you related to the princesses?” asked Twilight and Thorn cringed at the question but nonetheless he kept his polite demeanour.
“I am Luna’s son” Thorn managed to say, having spent a minute considering what to tell her.
“Your Princess Luna’s son?” Twilight asked surprised and shocked and Thorn nodded with a look in his eye.
“Why hasn’t she or Princess Celestia mentioned you before?” asked Twilight.
“Maybe because it would be a difficult subject I guess” shrugged Thorn “anyway I had the power to control the dreams of our subjects and I was put in charge of making sure their dreams were sweet.”
“Wait did you give me that dream I just had before I woke up in your cave?” asked Twilight and Thorn nodded. Twilight then gestured Thorn to continue with his story.
“And I am not sure what happened next” admitted Thorn “maybe it was because I was getting bored with my duties or something else but I decided to have a little fun with the subjects giving them nightmares!”
“WHAT?” asked Twilight getting scared “were they really that bad?”
“They got so bad the ponies were too afraid to sleep” said Thorn “once they found out mother and Aunt Celestia tried to reason with me but I guess I got too drunk with power so they banished me to this cave!”
Thorn then gestured to around the cave and said “over the years I guess whatever happened to me had worn off or whatever was possessing me had let go of me, whatever I don’t know. The spell that was casted on the cave to keep me in over the years has weakened enough for me to be able to leave the cave up to a certain distance and that was how I was able to find you!”
Thorn then began trotting through the cave and ushered Twilight to follow him. They soon came across the entrance to the cave and Thorn pointed to it.
“What is it?” asked Twilight confused.
“You are welcome to leave” said Thorn.
“I’m bringing you with me” Twilight then decided, thinking for about a minute on what do.
“I am trapped here remember?” reminded Thorn shaking his head.
“Don’t worry I will talk to the princesses and they can release the spell” said Twilight confidently.
“I don’t deserve it” said Thorn shaking his head once again.
“I don’t know what you were like a thousand years ago but you’re not a bad pony anymore” Twilight said “I know because otherwise you would not have saved me!”
Thorn then sighed and said “but what if I told you I saved your life.....for a selfish reason?”
“Selfish? How?” Twilight asked confused.
Thorn then sighed deeper and said “well I was tired of being alone and when I saw you about to be killed or eaten I just thought that......well..........if I saved your life and brought you back to the cave you would want to stay with me!”
Twilight then looked astonished and said “that tears it! I will definitely speak to the princesses now! You don’t deserve this type of loneliness!”
“What makes you think they can forgive me?” asked Thorn shaking his head.
“Of course they can you’re their family” Twilight said “and listen since you were banished your mother well........”
“You are speaking of the Nightmare Moon ordeal?” Thorn said “I have my ways of knowing about these things!”
“Well afterwards your aunt forgave your mother and I’m sure you will be forgiven!” Twilight then said confidently.
“You do realise I said that you are free to leave?” asked Thorn “and I’m not going to ask for forgiveness from my mother or my aunt because I don’t deserve it!!”
“Well I say you do!” argued Twilight “and I am not leaving with you!”
“You might reconsider after a few days or hours” Thorn said shaking his head.
Three days had passed and Twilight stubbornly refused to leave and Thorn was starting to wonder how long it would be before she misses her friends enough to leave the cave.
At that time the other Mane Six and Spike were very worried about where Twilight and there Search Party that they put together wasn’t having nay results so far. They had sent a little to Princess Celestia who had agreed to help along with Princess Luna and Shining Armor who insisted on being involved once he learnt his little sister was missing.
Both Princess Celestia and Luna were not looking through the Everfree Forest. “I feel that Twilight is near” said Princess Celestia “and somehow I feel that somepony is with her but with a familiar signature that I can’t put my hoof on!”
“I feel it too sister!” Princess Luna replied following her sister further into the forest. Soon they came across the cave Twilight and Thorn were in.
“Why do i feel our magic has been at work here?” asked Luna and her older sister shook her head though she had the feeling as well.
Thorn to amuse himself was using his powers to give weird ever changing dreams to nearby sleeping animals to see their reactions. Twilight sighed, Thorn had admitted those Dawnstalkers that almost killed her were animals which Thorn (in his early years being trapped in the cave) drove insane with the frightening dreams he was giving them and his magic had allowed them to turn into these beasts. Despite learning this disturbing piece of information Twilight was still certain Thorn deserved a second chance in the world outside the cave and forest.
Twilight hearing noises went out to see what was wrong. Twilight looked surprised to see the princesses, Thorn still in the cave had his eyes widen as he saw his mother and aunt approaching and went to hide.
“TWILIGHT!” both princesses said as they came to nuzzle her gently.
“Thank goodness you’re alright my faithful student” said Princess Celestia relieved “all of your friends have been worried and have been looking for you everywhere! Where have you been?”
Twilight looked sheepish and think over her words she replied “sorry..........but I kinda got lost in the forest but I was found and saved by the new friend I have been spending time with since!”
“New friend?” asked Princess Celestia smiling at the fact her student was still making new friends “can we meet this new friend of yours Twilight!”
Twilight gestured to the inside of the cave; they entered and looked around in awe as the inside of the cave could rival the Canterlot Palace in fanciness.
Seeing them enter Thorn sighed, it was best to get this over with. He then went out of his hiding spot and said “hello mother, hello Aunt Celestia, long time no see!”
The Princesses eyes widened at the familiar voice and turned to see Thorn facing them.
“Thorn?” they both gasped at once unable to believe their eyes.
