The Life of a Thestral

Twilight, Trixie, Derpy, and Diamond Tiara are sick of there life of neglect and cruelty, so they leave for a better life.
In a alternate world Twilight is a Thestral who often has to fight her own predatory instinct. Trixie is not so good with magic, but is vary fond of her friends. Derpy try's hard to help her friends and hates conflict. And Diamond Tiara has to say good bye to her old life when going to the orphanage after her parents death. The four of them live together in the same orphanage. But when the bullying and the fact no one cares about them have the four run away. What will happen?
Warning spoilers Gore tag because blood will be mention in future chapters

The next chapter is longer
It was a silent night in Canterlot with nopony on the streets, and a Thestral was running for her life. This Thestral was female with whitish-greyish coat, a white and light purple mane, and two silver leathery wings (one of them appearing broken). In her mouth was a basket. Far behind her were three earth pony's and a unicorn. The Thestral name was Twilight Velvet.
She ran into a alleyway and hid. She knew who those people were, they were Thestral hunters. They had already killed her husband and first born son, she looked into the basket she was carrying, inside was a sleeping one year old Thestral. She was purple with a dark blue mane that had a purple and dark pink streak, and had dark blue bat wings. (All Thestrals also have a spiral horn.) In her clutches was a plushy phoenix.
When they pasted her she left the alleyway, and a few moments later she saw Filly Care orphanage. She realized they were going to find her anyways and they were only in Canterlot for a few days. She looked at the orphanage, she knew she was going to die but her foal didn't have to. she gently set the basket down, someone running by wouldn't see it. She got out a scroll and wrote

on it she then heard them coming and ran of. The four pony's completely ran past the basket on the door step. A few minutes a bang echoed out. It was the sound of a gun.

Chapter 1: Somepony new

Twilight Sparkle flapped her blue leathery wings trying to fly with them.
"Come on Twilight you can do it!" Said the light blue Unicorn foal next to her, this unicorn name is Trixie.
"Fly Twilight fly!" Called the grey Pegasus flying above her, her name is Derpy.
Sticking her forked tongue in concentration she shut her eyes and started to flap in a pattern until she found herself face to face with Derpy.
"Ya you did it." Derpy called out. Twilight smiled a bit.
"Girls its time to go back inside." Trixie called to the two. They both landed and the three filly's ran to the orphanage they were so familiar with.
"Alright everypony settle down, we have a couple announcements." Mr. Stricture the pony in charge of the orphanage said when all the foals got inside. "First of all of you remember when Filthy Rich and his family lost Barnyard Bargains to prince Blue Blood a few months ago, exactly why he wanted it I really don't know. Well we found someone had murdered him and his wife and only there daughter is left, she will be coming in two hours. In other news there will be magic tests for the unicorns and predatory bat pony."
"I'm a Thestral." Twilight muttered as they walk to there rooms. In there rooms were two bunk beds. Twilight and Derpy sleep on the top bunk, Trixie sleeps below Twilight, no pony was below Derpy. The spare bed Twilight chewed on a few times when she regrew teeth. Since all the other rooms were full they had a strong feeling that would not be true in two hours.
"And why does she have to always call me predatory? I already Know I'm a predator!" Twilight ask her friends. Her friends shrugged.
"Well well well." Came a different voice. The trio looked behind to see Green Glider. "The monster, the freak, and the useless Unicorn."
"Go away Green Glider." Trixie said glaring at the green Unicorn colt.
"Ya leave us alone." Twilight said only a few feet away from Trixie.
"Oh no the animal is stepping out of line, lets fix that." Green Glider said as he pulled out a dog whistle and blew.
Nether Trixie nor Derpy heard anything but Twilight dropped to the ground clutching her ears. Both of them knew why. Thestrals had better hearing then dogs, so when a Thestral hears a dog whistle instead of discomfort like it is for dogs Thestral felt a high pitched agony.
"Leave Twilight alone." Derpy shouted snatching the whistle.
"Like I'm going to listen to a walleyed freak like you." Green Glider stated smugly.
Derpy backed away starting to tear up. Twilight got up despite the fact it felt like her ears were bleeding and hugged the sobbing Pegasus.
"O'k that's crossing the line, you can't hurt there feelings like that". Trixie snapped
"Like I care about feelings." Green Glider stated as he started to walk away, "Or the thoughts of a below average Unicorn who can't even levitate herself."
If looks could kill Trixie would have been a mass murder.
"Trixie calm down." Derpy pleaded.
"Forget about him, do you want to read?" Twilight asked. Twilight had the guide to all 6 pony species. This featured Earth, Pegasus, Unicorn, Thestral, Sea, and Deer. The other books Twilight have were a spell book, a guide to all of Equestria including map, a guide to non pony species and what they think of each pony race, and a daring do novel. Trixie looked at the book and climbed onto Twilight's bed to read.
TWO HOURS LATER
When Diamond Tiara looked at where she would be living see wanted to scream to Faust herself and ask why she was tormenting her. The only thing she had of her old life was her tiara and cutie mark, the pony running the place showed her where she would sleep had three other inhabitants. They were a grey Pegasus, a light blue Unicorn, and a purple Bat pony. "Oh and the Bat pony chewed on it a few times," the pony said matter-a-fact."Great!"Diamond thought "I will be living with a carnivore."
Twilight didn't look up from the guide of non-pony species, (she hadn't read that one yet) mainly the section on what is there general thought were of Thestrals. She wasn't surprised when they ranged from absolutely terrifying to respectable. A few did surprised her like the Zebra thought Thestrals were misunderstood, and Minotaurs find Thestrals fascinating, And griffens were vary wary around them. Twilight knew why most creature feared Thestrals. Thestrals are meat-eaters and had ferocious tempers when provoked, and often succumb to there instinct. And she was no exception (when a pair of robbers tried to rob the orphanage they woke up her,Trixie ,Derpy ,and Mr. Stricker. They had kicked her aside and called her a insane beast. That was also at a time when she new how use her teeth. long story short the robbery was stop). Ever since then she learn to control her temper but she knows she could easily snap.
Derpy played with the two dolls she had and thought of what Green Glider had called her that. He was not the first person to call her that.
The only one who payed any attention to Diamond tiara was Trixie. She had heard about what she was like and she would give Diamond a piece of her mind if she dared insult them they had enough problems.
Diamond hoped this situation would get better. She has no idea.
Chapter 2: We can't take it anymore
It's been a month since Diamond Tiara moved to the orphanage and she hated it. The food there was awful (worse than what she had to eat at homeless soup kitchens), the pony in charge who name is Mr. Stricter (a vary fitting name in her opinion) didn't even really care about any of the foals there (a few weeks ago the Thestral named Twilight twisted her back ankle when a green Unicorn colt named Green glider pushed her into a ditch, when she managed to climb out and limp to the orphanage he made her wait two hours to go to the nurses office) and whipped foals who misbehaved, and the previously mentioned colt was so cruel and heartless that it was amazing the other could live like this. The only good thing about all of this was she made friends with her roommates.
Diamond walked into her room to see Twilight reading another book alongside Derpy and her plushy phoenix, it was a Daring Do novel. The Thestrals leg had healed enough so that she could walk but broken enough that she had to keep a cast on it. She sat on her bed and put her tiara on a desk in between the bunk beds. Twilight suddantly looked up and sniffed the air. She then said, "I smell blood."
Then Trixie stormed in covered in mud and bleeding whip marks. "Guess what that #@%$! colt Green Glider did!" She shrieked.
"Pushed you in mud." Diamond responded.
"Yes and said to Mr. Stricter that I was in the mud on purpose, which lead to the whip."
The four of then went to one of the five bathrooms there to clean Trixie but also to discuss something else.
"Twilight is anypony within hearing distance." Trixie asked.
Twilight put her ear to the door and listen. A few minutes past by with Trixie cleaning herself off before Twilight said, "all clear."
Trixie got out of the tub and started to dry herself off as she said in a whisper, "I think we should run away."
"What!" The three half whispered, half shouted.
"Girls think about it were treated awfully, I was thinking we leave." Whispered Trixie.
"But should we?" Derpy asked.
"I don't see any reason why not. We all have are cutie marks, books about Equestria, and a wagon." Trixie reminded
"Wait you have a wagon?" Diamond asked.
Trixie nodded, "last summer a noble was giving away a foal harness, a box of old but still useful toolbox with tools, and a wagon only big enough to hold four foals. Mr.Stricter doesn't know about it. I spent many nights with Twilight fixing it."
"Oh." Diamond said.
"But there one problem, Twilight's leg." Derpy pointed out.
"Don't worry it's almost healed." Twilight stated.
"And were not leaving immediately." Trixie said, "I was thinking next week, afterall Twilight's cast is coming off in two days. But that's if you want to come with me."
The three foals though about this. "I'm coming." Twilight said.
"Me to." Derpy stated.
"You three are the first friends I ever had and I hate this place, I'm coming to." Diamond tiara said firmly.
"In a week we will prepare, then we will forage are own destiny's." Trixie whispered as she put bandages on her wounds.
ONE WEEK LATER
In a week the quartet had gathered bits, fixed there wagon and attached wings to it so if Derpy or Twilight were to pull it they would be able to pull it midair, and gathered what they will be bringing. Well they didn't have much they were bringing Twilight's books, and a few personal things. Trixie whip marks were also fully healed as well as Twilight's leg.
Speaking of her, Twilight looked out the window. She was in charge of the leaving plan, she was to stay up till midnight so they can leave, she wasn't tired because Thestrals only needed three hours of sleep and were nocturnal so she had gotten her sleep in the afternoon. Twilight looked down at there wagon with her books, bits, a compass, water bottles full of water, a toolbox, a first aid kit, Derpys dolls, Trixie's cloak, and her phoenix plushy in it. she was wearing a dark blue hooded cloak herself to hide her wings. Twilight then looked at her watch. 11:47 it said. "Well close enough." Twilight muttered to herself. She then climbed down and literally pushed Trixie and Diamond out of bed. She then flapped her wings and in midair shook Derpy awake.
"Was that really necessary?" Diamond Tiara exclaimed quietly.
"Yes, you two are impossible to wake otherwise." Twilight told them.
"Touche." Diamond Tiara said as she and Trixie got up off the floor.
Derpy flapped her wings and flew next to Twilight, it was remarkable how fast she was learning how to fly. Last month was the first time Twilight used her wings but she got the hang of it vary quickly. She read that that was a Thestral thing but it was still impressive.
"So are we ready?" Trixie asked.
"Hold on!" Diamond asked and grabbed her tiara.
"Okay lets go." Trixie said and Twilight started to harness herself to the wagon. The four then walked to the door, they then opened it and looked out. A cold, winter, snowy landscape greeted them. "They wouldn't mind if we left the door open?" Trixie ask them.
"Them being angry at us doesn't matter anymore." Diamond said firmly, "lets just go."
The three climbed in the small wagon, and as planed Twilight ran out the door and as fast as she could go in a random direction.
As Twilight ran they all felt a sense of freedom. It was time to shape there destiny's.
Chapter 3: You got to be kidding
Twilight ran savoring the freedom, as she did all the memories of her entire life flashed through her life and in that only three ponies ever showed her kindness and they were the ponies she was running away with. She finally stopped in a empty looking dark part of Canterlot. Catching her breath she sat down on the snowy ground and looked at her friends. "So what do we do now?" Twilight asked.
"That's what I was saving for if we manege to get out." Trixie said as she got out the map of Equestria, she the face hoofed remembering that that map wasn't specific help her navigate Canterlot, just all of Equestria.
"O'mm girls we have a problem, we can't navigate Canterlot." Trixie said nervously.
"What!" They all said quietly.
"Trixie just out of curiosity how much do we have?" Diamond asked.
"5 bits."
"Is there any good news?" Derpy asked.
Twilight faced away from her friends, and looked around, she then had a worried look on her face. "I know this place." She said fear in her voice, the other three looked at her.
"How do you know this place?" Diamond asked the three looking at Twilight.
"I'm a hunter, when I started to hunt on my own I was able to fine this place and hunt rats here, from then on I always sneak here at night and hunt here." Twilight said.
"But I have seen you eat plants." Diamond said.
"Yes because Thestrals are omnivores." Twilight said.
"Oh." Diamond said.
"So isn't that a good thing were in a place you know." Derpy asked.
"Not really considering that if you enter that alleyway and turn at the end you would find the Shadow market." Twilight said, getting shocked looks from her friends. The Shadow market was where you could find anything from old artifacts, rare animals, and all sorts of spell books. But it was also vary dangerous. Some of the things in there were dark magic.
"Girls we have only two options, one wander around Canterlot complete lost or explore that place and have a possibility chance at finding a map." Diamond said.
The quartet reviewed there options in there minds. They weren't going back, and wondering clueless around Canterlot wasn't that appealing. Plus maybe they could find a job.
"Maybe we could look for a map there." Trixie said.
"But isn't it dangerous there?" Derpy asked.
"Not if were careful." Twilight said. "The few times I did explore this place I was cautious, but we can't leave the wagon here."
"So who is going to stay here with the wagon?" Diamond asked.
"We'll draw straws." Twilight said as she grabbed four random pieces of hay. Her friends randomly took one each reveling that Diamond tiara had the shortest one so it was agreed she would stay.
"Just hurry back." Diamond said as she was harnessed to the wagon.
"Okay." Derpy said as they started to walk to the shadow market.
The three fillies looked about in awe, the place had so much in there old books, amazing animals, and rare spells. They could possible find a job there.
"You know whenever I do come here I don't really explore much." Twilight said.
They would have did more exploring had they not heard a cry of pain, no other pony notice it.
"What was that?" Derpy asked.
"I don't know." Trixie said.
"All find out." Twilight said and ran in the direction of the cry, Derpy and Trixie following behind.
When they got there they crept behind a bunch of boxes and saw what all the commotion was. A large, bulky, earth pony was whipping a fire fox kit. He was a animal abuser.
"Quit your blubbering fox." The earth pony said with a evil smile well the kit continued to cry.
Twilight looked in fury this sight enraged her alot, without thinking she used her magic to shove the earth pony in to a pile of boxes.
"Twi are you crazy!" Trixie said as Twilight ran over to comfort the kit. Twilight ignored her friend and scooped it up with her hooves.
"Its okay, your all right." Twilight said in a soothing tone.
"Twilight can we go?" Derpy asked seeing that the earth pony was getting up.
"Oh horseapples." Twilight muttered before holding the fox with her wing and running back towards where they left there wagon and Diamond tiara.
Diamond tiara tapped her hoof in boredom as she waited for her friends to return. Since she got to the orphanage she learned a lot of things, like the importance of true friendship. She had at first acted like a high horse and treated the others poorly until she was put in her place by Green glider. With the others quickly losing interest in her and Green gliders constant bullying she started self reflecting in how she acted. But even when she reflected and tried to change for the better nopony trusted her until Twilight attempted to befriend her. Then Derpy befriended her, and eventually Trixie warmed up to her. And with that friendship she became vary fond of her friends, a experience she never had as a rich filly. Suddenly her friends ran up to her in a panic.
"Girls what is it?" Diamond asked.
"No time to explain, just run." Derpy said fear in her eyes. Diamond's eyes then fell on the fox on Twilight's cloaked back.
"Is that what I think it is?" Diamond asked. Before Twilight could say anything a large pony emerged out of the alley.
"Well well well." He said with a sneered which was the fillies que to get the hell outta dodge. They ran out of the alley way and started to run when Twilight got a plan.
"Girls he's after me, if I split away he'll chase me." Twilight said out of the stallion's ear shot.
"What that's crazy." Trixie said
"You can't!!" Derpy and Diamond cried.
"I can fly remember, now go." Twilight said before splitting away from the others, but Trixie followed. And as Twilight predicted he chased only them.
A 16 year old orange unicorn mare with a red and yellow fiery mane trotted around Canterlot, It was just so peaceful at this time. A meek whimpering caught her attention and she looked into a alleyway, only to hear a fillys voice whisper "Shh be quiet or he'll hear us."
"Who's there, please come out." The mare asked. Then a light blue foal with a white mane emerged out of her hiding place. She looked like she would pass out from exhaustion and was out of magic.
"Hello madam, what brings you hear?" The blue foal asked.
"I heard something and a different voice then yours filly." The mare responded.
"I guess I have to show myself." Another voice, the one she heard before said in the shadows and out walked a little purple Thestral with a fox on her back. Her ears were flattened back as though she was expecting her to harm her.
"Okay fillies I must ask what are you doing alone and where are your parents."
Before any of them could answer a voice shouted "there you brats are!"And the three of them turned around to see two menacing looking stallion's. The blue filly finally collapse to the ground.
The stallion grinned and said "I found one of my acquaintances, he know's exactly what to do with Thestrals." looking at the unicorn accompanying him.
"I don't think so!" The orange mare said standing between the foals and the stallions.
The stallion who had been originally chasing the foals said. "Get out of here bacon hair."
That was enough for her before she lite her horn. "Back up kids, I don't want you to get hurt." Twilight nodded and dragged Trixie back. She then step up.
The other unicorn then looked at her, grinned, then said. "If its a magic duel you want it's a magic duel you get." Then they started to duel. But as they battled Twilight noticed that the other pony sneaked over with a steel pipe in his hooves with full intentions to harm her. Without thinking she put the fox down and leaped in front of him and growled at him, trying to look scary. But he swung the pipe and hit her hard in the wing and sent her smashing back first into the wall. He gripped the pipe a though of getting his vengeance only for his accomplice to be hurled by magic at him.
"LEAVE NOW, unless you want my mentor princess Celestia involved." She said giving the most terrifying look Twilight ever seen.
The two of them realized they weren't getting anywhere and ran for in. The mare then walked over to Twilight, she was curled up in pain and slightly shaking. "I think my wings are broken." She whimpered.
The mare lowered here head to Twilight's level and cast a scanning spell to reveled her both of her wings were badly broken.
"Let's just said you wont be doing any flying for a while kid." She said, then carefully levitated the foal onto her back.
Trixie having finally manage to stand walked over. "Umm miss..."
"My name is Sunset Shimmer." Sunset said.
"Okay, Sunset We have two other friends we need to find. Can you help us?" Trixie asked.
"Don't worry Trixie were right here." A familiar voice said before two other foals emerge, one of them attached to a wagon.
"Never mind." Trixie said.
"Wait, how did you find us?" Twilight asked from underneath Sunset's mane.
"We'll after you two ran off we tried to keep up but we lost where we were going. It wasn't till Diamond suggested I fly up and find you that we were able to find you." Derpy said then picked up the fox.
"Well kids, your all coming with me." Sunset said levitating the fox, Derpy, and Trixie in the wagon.
As they walked towards the castle Sunset had a strong feeling that things will not be the same.

Chapter 4: New caretaker
Twilight yawned as she awoke and opened her eyes. She didn't immediate recognize where she was before she remembered the events of last night.
"Sunset!" Twilight called out and looked around. But instead of the orange 16 year old she expected she saw a pink filly alicorn with a pink, purple, and yellow mane and tail, her wings were colored a light purple. Which were both tied back with light blue ribbon. Her cutie mark was a crystallized blue heart. She was reading a book till she heard the foals call.
"Hello little filly, don't worry Sunset will be back." She said in a kindly tone before saying. "Also I'm Cadence."
"Hi." Twilight said, then looked around, her friends were right next to her and still asleep, and there wagon was in a corner. Twilight then looked at her sides. Her wings were bandaged in a folded position with a final cloth bandage tied around her midsection to keep her wings in place. Last night a docter said she wouldn't be able to fly for 6 months. Then the door opened and out came two baby dragons one red, one orange.
"So your the filly's Sunset found." The orange dragon said. "Hi I'm Spike, this is Garble." Spike said motioning towards the red dragon next to him.
"Hi." Twilight said looking around the place before asking. "Where's Sunset."
"I'm over here kid." Said a familiar voice and standing at the doorway was Sunset and a alicorn. The alicorn's name was Starlight, the princess of magic. At the sight of the alicorn Twilight dived back in the covers, waking up Trixie.
"Twilight, why did you wake m-" Trixie stopped when she realized she was in the presence of royalty and join Twilight under the covers. Starlight seeing the filly's reaction to her presences looked at Cadence and asked. "Cadence how do you get them to not fear you?"
Cadence smiled and said. "It might have to do with you being twice there high and being the princess of magic big sis."
Sunset walked over to the bed and lifted the covers. "Hello kids, I see you met Starlight and Cadence." She said.
"And us." Spike said before adding, "Actuality only the Thestral met us." Sunset ignored him and levitated Twilight and Trixie on her back. She then woke up Diamond and Derpy, and placed them on her back.
"Where are we going." Diamond asked once she was fully awake.
"We are going to see princess Celestia." Sunset said calmly, but the four exchanged worried looks. They all had a strong feeling that the moment Celestia and Sunset found out that they were orphans they would be sent back to Filly Care orphanage because it was the closest to Canterlot castle.
"Hold on I need to grab your fox friend then we'll be off" Sunset said turning to the fillies noting the worried look on there face.
"Okay." The Thestral said looking around the area.
They grabbed the fox and got to the throne room where Princess Celestia was waiting.
"Hello my faithful student." Celestia greeted when she saw Sunset, she then looked at the fillies on her back. "Hello fillies, I have some questions for you four."
Sunset set them down in front of Celestia and sat down behind.
Celestia then asked "What were four fillies doing out in the middle of the night, and where are your parents.
one explanation later
Celestia couldn't believe what she heard from the foal when she was told what happen to them in the orphanage, under her nose. After letting a maid take the foals back to Cadence and Starlight she and Sunset though about what the foals said.
"I can't believe a orphanage would whip foals." Celestia said."What else do I not know." She thought to herself.
Sunset looked up at her mentor. "What will happen to them?" She asked.
Celestia thought about it. "I-I don't know. I would normally send them to another orphanage elsewhere, but hearing they were raised living like that. I'm not sure."
Sunset thought about what to do. A specific idea crossed her mind at that moment. "What if I take care of them." Sunset asked her mentor.
Celestia thought about that. She was thinking about teaching Sunset humility and showing her the portal mirror, but as she thought about it, the foals might have a better effect.
"Okay Sunset." Celestia said hoping it was a good idea. As Sunset ran off to tell the foals the good news.

Chapter 5(part 1): The Nightmare tale
six months later
Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria, there were two regal sisters who ruled together, and created harmony for all the land. To do this, the oldest used her alicorn powers to raise the sun at dawn. The younger brought out the moon to begin the night. Thus the two sisters maintained balance for their kingdom and their subjects, all the different types of ponies. But as time went on, the younger sister became resentful. The Ponies relished and played in the day her older sister brought forth, but shunned, and slept through her beautiful night. One fateful day, the younger alicorn refused to lower the moon to make way for the dawn. The older sister tried to reason with her, but the bitterness in the young ones heart had transformed her into a wicked mare of darkness, 'Nightmare Moon'. She vowed that she would shroud the land in eternal night. Reluctantly the older sister harnessed the most powerful magic known to pony kind, 'The Elements of Harmony'. Using the magic of the Elements of Harmony, she defeated her sister, and banished her permanently in the moon. The older sister took on the responsibility of both sun and moon, and harmony has been maintained in Equestria for generations since.
Twilight looked at the book she was reading. Celestia asked her to give it to Sunset, but she decided to read it, and she was confused. This was a foals story. Picking it up with her mouth she decides to give it to Sunset anyways. As she walked back to where She, her friends/adopted sisters, and Sunset lived she wished she could use magic better, but Thestral magic goes haywire till they turned 13, so she had two more years, the only time it is focus and not crazy is when she got mad. As she walk home she ran into Lemon Hearts and Twinkle Shine both with presents on there backs.
"There you are Twilight. Is Sunset doing anything, Minuette is having a little get together in the west castle courtyard, can you tell her? Lemon Hearts asked.
"Okay." Twilight said and ran the rest of the way without interruptions. She soon made it to the doors, opened them and yelled, "Sunset? Suunset?"
"Hi Twilight. Where were you?" Sunset asked when she heard Twilight.
"Celestia ask me to give this to you." Twilight said setting the book on the ground. "And Minuette wants you to come to her party."
"Twilight you know we don't have time for things like that." Sunset said before levitated the book to her eyes and read the entire book.
"Hmmm, Elements of Harmony. I know I've heard of those before." Sunset said thinking. "Twilight can you help me find that old copy on predictions and prophecies."
Then Trixie, Diamond, and Derpy as well as Spike and Garble entered to see Sunset and Twilight searching through all the books.
"Sunset? What are you doing? Were on break," Garble asked looking at the two, so Twilight filled them in on what they found.
"Found it!" Sunset said in triumph before taking over to a pedestal to read, and began flipping through the pages. "Elements, elements, e, e, e, e, ah ha. Elements of Harmony, see Mare in the Moon?" She questioned.
"Mare in the moon? But isn't that just an old pony's tale," Derpy asked looking at everypony.
Sunset flipped through the pages once more and muttered, "Mare, mare, ah ha. The Mare in the Moon, myth from olden pony times. A powerful pony who wanted to rule Equestria, defeated by the Elements of Harmony and imprisoned in the Moon. Legend has it that on the longest day of the thousandth year, the stars will aid in her escape, and she will bring about night time eternal. (Gasp) Spike, Garble, girls do you all know what this means?"
"No." The six of them said looking at each other.
"Twilight, take a note please, to the princess." Sunset said
"Okay." Twilight said as she grabbed a pencil and scroll. "Ready!"
"My dearest teacher, my continuing studies in pony magic have led me to discover that we are on the precipice of disaster. For you see the mythical mare in the moon is in fact Nightmare moon. And she is about to return to Equestria, and bring with her eternal night. Something must be done to make sure this prophecy does not come true. I await your orders, your faithful student Sunset Shimmer."
"Sunset Shimmer, there got it." Twilight exclaimed.
"Great, Send it," Sunset commanded.
"Now?" Twilight questioned.
"Of course." Sunset said firmly.
"I don't know Sunset, Celestia is a little busy getting ready for the Summer Sun Celebration. And that's like the day after tomorrow," Twilight informed her.
"That's just it Twilight. The day after tomorrow is the thousandth year of the Summer Sun Celebration. It's imperative that Celestia is told right away," Sunset said with urgency.
"Okay Sunset," Twilight said wondering where this will go.
Twilight then took a deep breath and let a bat-like squeak, It's normal purpose was for echolocation, however Celestia found that a spell would allow Twilight to use it to send messages. How it worked was when the squeak hit the scroll the scroll would morph into a bat-like figure and fly towards the intended pony. There it will turn back into a scroll.
"There it's on it's way." Twilight said looking up at the bigger pony.
A few minutes pass by before Twilight squeaks up the letter and reads it out loud to Sunset. "My dearest most faithful student Sunset. You know I value your intelligence and that I trust you completely. But you simply must stop taking certain books seriously."
Twilight then looked at the back, "Another note on the back. It says 'my most faithful student Sunset. There is more to a young ponies life then studying. So I am sending you, Spike, Garble, me, Trixie, Derpy, and Diamond to oversee the preparations in this year's location Ponyville. And I have a even more essential task for you to complete...Make some friends?"
Twilight looked up and asked, "aren't Minuette, Lemon Hearts, Twinkle Shine your friends?
Sunset rolled her eyes. "Twilight there acquaintances, not friends. Anyways I don't need friends, I have you, Spike, Garble, Trixie, Derpy, and Diamond. I have plenty of company. Besides you and the others should pack for Ponyville."
So Twilight walked over to her room with Trixie and talked.
"Say Twilight I'm going to put on my cloak?"
Twilight smiled at her sister as she wondered what the day would bring.

Chapter 5(part 2): In Ponyville
Twilight soared next to the Pegasus drawn carriage, energetically flying loops around the moving carriage. Four months after Sunset adopted them Twilight's wings started to grow a lot and she started to become restless, the rest of them guessed it was a growth spurt.
"We will be landing soon miss." On of the pegasus guards who's name was Meteor said, ignoring the Thestral flying around him.
"Okay Meteor." Sunset said still in thought. "Why had her mentor not believe her? Had she proved not trustworthy in the past?" She was pulled from her train of thought by the Firefox kit Twilight decided to call Ignis leaped onto her back. At that moment the carriage landed.
"Finally." Sunset said hopping out."Diamond, Derpy, and Garble can you three search the library we will be staying at with. Me, Trixie, Ignis, Spike, and Twilight will get the things for the Summer sun celebration as fast as possible and be join you."
When the others left for the library Twilight looked up at Sunset and asked, " what about making friends?"
Sunset looked at Twilight. "We have more important things to do like stop Nightmare moon, and save Equestria. Friendship is not important."
At that moment a pink Thestral trotted up to them. Twilight then said,"we could at least introduce ourselves."
Sunset looked at the pink Thestral and awkwardly said, "Um hello."
But the Thestral cat-like eyes bulging gasped, leaped into the air, and streaked off to Celestia knows where and in a blur she was gone. Leaving a confused Sunset, Twilight, Spike, and Trixie.
"Well, that was.... weird." Trixie said after a bit.
"But not important." Sunset said, "Lets go."
"Do Thestral's really act like that." Twilight asked herself.
Twilight was seated on Sunset back in front of the apple farm with a list in one hoof and a pen in the other. "Are first stop Sweet Apple Acres."
"Yeeeee ha," said a cheerful voice.
Sunset, Twilight, Trixie, and Spike look in the direction they had heard the voice to see an orange earth mare with a western style hat kick a apple tree and cause the fruit to fall into the buckets.
Sunset sighs "Well let's get this over with," she says glumly as Twilight hopped off Sunset's back.
They headed over to the orange pony and Sunset said, "Good afternoon, I am Sunset Shimmer..."
Whatever Sunset was about to say was interrupted as the pony took her hoof and shook it very fast as she said, "Well how do ya do Sunset. A pleasure makin your acquaintance. A'm Applejack, we here at Sweet Apple Acres, sure do like makin new friends."
Sunset replied in a shaky voice, "Friends? Actually I..."
"So what can I do you for." Applejack said letting go of Sunset's hoof and Twilight and Spike had to stop it from shaking like crazy.
Sunset rolled her eyes seeing them try not to laugh and said to Applejack in her most polite tone “Nice to meet you, Applejack. I'm here to supervise preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration, and I hear that you and your family are in charge of the food?”
Applejack smiled. "We sure are, care to sample some?"
"Well as long as it doesn't take too long," Sunset replies, anxious to get to the library.
Applejack then rang a triangular bell and shouted "Soup’s on, everypony!"
Twilight had just enough time to spread her wings and fly up as she saw ponies running in her direction with Ignis on her back. But Sunset, Trixie, and Spike were not as fortunate. They land next to and outdoor table, all three feeling a little dazed by the stampede that had taken them by surprise as Twilight landed next to them.
Once Sunset's, Trixie's, and Spike's senses came back into focus, Applejack introduces them to the Apple family. There was a long list of ponies and she finished off as she said, "Big Mackintosh, Apple Bloom, And Granny Smith. Up an’ at ‘em, Granny! We got guests!"
Sunset smiled and said, "Well, I see that the food situation is handled, so Spike, Twilight, Trixie, and I will be on our way."
"Aren'tcha gonna stay fur brunch?" Apple Bloom asked, putting on her pleading face.
"Can we?" Twilight said making the same face as Apple Bloom.
Sunset replied as apologetically as she could, "Sorry guys, but we have an awful lot to do."
"Awwwwwwwwwww," the Apple family and Twilight says in unison.
"Oh, alright, we'll stay." Sunset said not able to resist Apple blooms and her daughter look.
The Apple family immediately cheered and the feasting began with Twilight going strait for the apple pie and starts to talk to Apple Bloom.
Twilight what in a very happy mood as she flew next to a walking Sunset who at the moment felt stuffed. Trixie and Spike were a few feet away from the two.
"Oh, I ate too many caramel apples." Sunset moaned.
Trixie looked at Twilight and thought,"I'm surprised you are feeling fine yourself Twilight. You ate a lot of apple pie today.
Twilight flapped her wing as she looked at the sky, "There's supposed to be a Pegasus pony named Rainbow Dash clearing the sky."
Sunset looked up at the cloudy sky and said, "Well it looks to me that she isn't doing a very good job at all, is she."
“Look out!” Somepony shouted.
Sunset swiveled around to face the source of the loud warning scream, finding herself right in the path of a blue Pegasus flying at them like a bullet.
WHACK
The cyan Pegasus rose from the mud puddle and began to shake the mud from her fur and rainbow mane as she looked below her seeing a orange Unicorn mare and purple Thestral filly. "Hehe...oops." She says, flying off Sunset and Twilight.
Sunset out a groan as she moved to push herself back up onto her hooves. Before she could fully figure out what was going on, the Pegasus began to bounce up and down on the cloud, causing it to release the water within as rain. It did get the mud off them, but it soaked them all the way through. Her attention was drawn away from the Pegasus by a familiar sound. Next to her Twilight now laid sprawled on the ground, moving to sit up. The filly let out a whimper and curled into a ball, wrapping her wings around herself.
Sunset glared at the Pegasus and grabbed her in her magic.
"HEY!" the Pegasus yelled. "What's the big idea?" She slammed her hooves against the magic holding her, glaring at the Unicorn that now held her.
"The big idea?!"Sunset snarled back. "The big idea is this." Using her magic, she dragged the captured Pegasus over to where Twilight sat, curled into a ball. "Hitting me is one thing, but Twilight, who is just a filly is another. Now," she plopped the Pegasus mare on the ground in front of Twilight, "apologize!" She released her from her magic, but her horn continued to glow so she was ready to grab her should she try to leave.
For her part, the Pegasus mare look properly ashamed and embarrassed. She looked at the Thestral filly and said,"Hey Twilight, I didn't mean to hit you or her. I'm... I'm sorry."
Twilight peaked out from her wings, Sat up, and meekly said "Okay."
"That's better." Sunset said using a heat spell to dry herself off. When she notice the Pegasus trying not to laugh she asked, "what's so funny?"
Those words tipped the Pegasus over the edge, and she burst out into uncontrollable laughter, falling backwards in her mirth as she pointed at Sunset's mane. Spike, Trixie, and even Twilight soon joined the weatherpony in her laughter, and the Unicorn finally looked up to find her mane had curled up into a frizzy mess.
A orange filly who had seen everything then approached Sunset and said, "Forgive me miss, but, (snicker), but, you may need (snicker) to go to the salon here in Ponyville," she said.
Sunset sighed and rubbed her temples. It was going to be a long day. "So... I'm guessing you're Rainbow Dash," she said firmly, catching the laughing Pegasus's attention.
"The one and only," Rainbow Dash said, launching herself up into the air with her chest out proudly. "Why, you heard of me?"
"I'm Scootaloo, Rainbow dash's biggest fan, and founder of the Rainbow dash fan club." Scootaloo said eagerly.
Sunset looked up at Rainbow dash and said,"I heard you were supposed to be keeping the skies clear. I'm Sunset Shimmer and Celestia has sent me here to check on the weather for the celebration," Sunset said, with some annoyance and hint of pride.
"Oh the weather, that'll be a snap. I'll do it in a jiffy, right after I'm done practicing," Rainbow Dash said.
"Practicing for what?" Twilight asked folding her wings.
"The Wonderbolts. They're going to be performing at the Summer Sun Celebration tomorrow, and I'm gonna show them my stuff your highness," Rainbow Dash said with enthusiasm in her voice.
"The Wonderbolts?" Sunset said raising her eyebrow.
"Yep," Rainbow Dash replies.
"The most talented fliers in all of Equestria?" Sunset asked.
"That's them" Rainbow Dash said.
"Oh please, they'd never except a pegasus that can't even keep the sky clear for one day." Sunset says rolling her eyes.
Rainbow looks at Sunset, "I could clear the sky in ten seconds flat."
"Prove it." Sunset dared.
"You might want to move." Scootaloo says to Twilight.
Without further ado, Rainbow Dash took off into the air and flew at all the clouds using impossibly sharp turns Sunset had only seen it Twilight's flight.
Rainbow Dash landed lightly on the ground in front of where she thought she had left Sunset. "What did I say? Ten. Seconds. Flat. I would never leave Ponyville hanging," she said, standing confidently with her head held high.(She looks at Sunset's expression) "You should see the look on your face. You're a laugh Sunset, I can't wait to hang out some more."
Rainbow Dash soon took off and Spike said, "Wow, she's amazing."
He looked at Sunset's frizzy mane and snickers. Sunset soon walked off towards their next destination annoyed, and Spike said, "Wait, it's kinda pretty once you get used to it."
"Decorations," Twilight said out loud as she read off the list as they entered the town hall.
"Beautiful..." Spike said, the words coming out in an breathless whisper.
"You're right, Spike,” Twilight said approvingly. “This is beautiful indeed." The Thestral commented
Sunset smiled "Yes, the decorations is coming along nicely. This ought to be quick, I'll be at the library in no time."
I have ever only seen these types of decorations in stores around Hearth's Warming." Trixie muttered, looking in aw.
"Not the decor," Spike said, "her." The young dragon pointed, causing the two Unicorns and Thestral with him to look in that direction. There looking through the ribbons was a white Doe with a purple mane and antlers.
"Somepony has a cruuush," Twilight and Trixie said at the same time, there voices taking a musical lilt to it.
Spike either didn't hear them, or didn't care as he gazed at the doe with hearts in his eyes.
"How are my spines? Are they straight?" Spike asked, to which Sunset simply rolled her eyes. She then began trotting swiftly towards the Deer before her with Twilight and Trixie following behind, Spike simply staying back near the door, immobilized in a half-dreaming state.
"Good afternoon!" Twilight said trying to catch her attention.
"Just a moment, please," the white Deer responded, without even bothering to look back. "I am in the zone, as it were."
She levitated over the next ribbon, a large smile on her face as she tied it into a rather large, shimmering red bow onto a thin, supporting pole. "Oh yes! Sparkle always does the trick, does it not? Why Rarity, you are a talent. Now, um, how can I help you? Oooh my." She spluttered once she saw Sunset's mane. "Darling whatever happened to your coiffure?"
"Oh, don't mind me." Sunset said "I'm just stopping by to check up on the decorations, and then I promise I'll be out of your hair."
"Out of my hair? What about your hair?" the doe asked as she pushed Sunset towards the boutique next door
"Hey, what are you doing?! Where are you taking me?! Stop pushing me with your antlers! Help!" Sunset said as she was directed towards the boutique.
They were soon at the boutique and Rarity was deciding the best look that would suit Sunset. It had taken longer then the young mare had hoped, but she had finally made a decision on an outfit, Spike still in a trance, having followed them all the way saying nothing.
"Now go on dear. I believe you were going to tell me where you were from."Rarity said.
Sunset sighed. "Well I'm from Canterlot, and I"
"Canterlot?!" Rarity gasped "You're from Canterlot?! Oh the glamor! The sophistication! I have always dreamed of living there."
Sunset looked around and finally spotted Twilight. "Say Rarity Why don't you dress up Twilight well I use the bathroom."
"WHAT?!" Twilight cried and ran off.
"Darling can you get her." Rarity asked but Sunset was already gone so she looked a Trixie.
"Your cloak is beautiful darling."
Twilight peeked out of her hiding place when she heard the discussion about Trixie's cloak from behind a manikin. Giving a sigh of relief she started to walk back, only to bump into a fawn around her age.
"Oops, sorry." The fawn said helping Twilight to her hooves.
"That's okay." Twilight said reassuring as she got up. "What's your name."
"Sweetie belle. What's yours."
Well the two talked Sunset returned, and Rarity said. "Where were we. Oh yes I can't wait to hear all about it. We are going two be the best of friends, you and I.......... Emeralds? What was I thinking? Let me get you some rubies."
When Rarity hurried off, Sunset sought this opportunity and said running off, "Quick, before she decides to dye my coat a new color."
Spike was still out of it and Twilight had to pick him up and fly after Sunset with Trixie and Ignis in tow. When they were a good distance away form the building, Spike said, "Wasn't she wonderful?"
"Focus Spike we have one more thing to do." Sunset said.
"Okay, music is the last one on the list." Twilight said as they walked to there final destination. Sunset smiled at those words.
Soon, both of them heard a faint sound birds, which seemed to be chirping in rhythm. They soon find the source of the sound as the see a yellow Sea pony and Silver sea pony filly with glasses conducting a chorus of birds. Everything seemed to be going well until one bird seemed to be off pitch. The yellow Sea pony left the little pool she was in and walked up to him and said, "Oh my, um, stop please everyone, um, excuse me sir? I mean no offence, but, your rhythm is just a tiny bit off. Now follow me please, a one , a two, a one two three..."
"Hello," Sunset said.
"Ahh." The yellow Sea pony screams as her birds fly off.
"Oh my, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to frighten your birds. I'm just here to check up on the music with my assistant and daughters and it's sounding beautiful," said Sunset.
The yellow finned Sea pony shifts her front hooves shyly. Sunset was feeling a bit uneasy herself by the silence and said, "I'm Sunset Shimmer... What's your name?"
"Um, I'm Fluttershy," the sea pony said lightly.
"I'm sorry what was that?" Sunset asked.
"Her name is Fluttershy, and i'm Silverspoon." Silverspoon introduced exiting the pool.
"Hello Silverspoon, it looks like your birds are back, so I guess everything's in order. Keep up the good work." Sunset said as she starts to leave.
Fluttershy mumbles something no pony could make out and Sunset said as she turned away to her assistant, and daugthers "Okay, well that was fast."
"Huh, a baby dragon and fire fox," Fluttershy exclaimed as she rushed knocking over Sunset.
"Well, well, well," was all Spike said.
"Huh, he talks. I didn't know baby dragons could talk, that's just so incredibly wonderful, I, I just don't know what to say," Fluttershy said.
Grabbing Spike, Twilight, Ignis, and Trixie with her magic, Sunset said, "Well in that case we better be going."
"Wait, what's his name?" Fluttershy asked.
"I'm Spike," Spike said.
"Hi Spike, I'm Fluttershy. Wow, a talking dragon, and what do dragons talk about?" Fluttershy asked, who was unable to notice Sunset's annoyance.
"Well what do want to know?" Spike asked.
"Absolutely everything," Fluttershy said.
"Oh, I mean if that's alright with you, Sunset I mean," Fluttershy said.
"No it's fine really." Sunset said even though she was mentally screaming "Oh Celestia no, please don't take long."
"Well I started out as a cute little purple and green egg." Spike started.
"And that's the story of my whole life.... Well up until today. Do you want to hear about today?" Spike asked.
"Oh, yes please," Fluttershy said with her enthusiasm.
All of the sudden they were at the library and Sunset seized the opportunity to get some alone time and said as she whipped herself around to face Fluttershy, "I am so sorry. How did we get here so fast? This is where we all are staying while here in Ponyville, and my poor baby dragon and daughters needs there sleep."
"No we don't, wah oof," Spike said as Sunset made him and Twilight slip off her back.
"Aww, wook at that. There so sweepy they can't even keep there wittle bawances," the orange Unicorn said in a babyish tone and gave Fluttershy an awkward smile.
Fluttershy then swooped over, picked up Spike and Twilight and took him inside as she said, "Poor things, you simply must get them to bed."
Sunset galloped in after her said, "Yes yes, we'll get right on that. Well, goodnight." as she slams the door.
"Hmpf, rude much?" Spike asked annoyed at Sunset's behavior.
"Sorry Spike, but I have to convince the Princess that Nightmare Moon is coming and we're running out of time. I just need to be alone so I can study without a bunch of crazy ponies trying to make friends all the time. Now where's the light?" Sunset asked as she looked around for the switch.
All of the sudden, the light came on by itself and there were many ponies all around who all said at the same time, "SURPRISE!!!," making the Sunset, Twilight, Trixie, and Spike jump in surprise.
After Sunset calmed herself she sighed thinking 'oh no, more distractions'. The Pink Thestral came up to her and said, "Surprise. Hi, I'm Pinkie Pie, and I threw this party just for you. Were you surprised, were you were you, huh huh huh?"
"Very surprised. Libraries are supposed to be quiet," Sunset said extremely annoyed.
"That's silly, what kind of welcome party would this be if it were quiet? I mean duh, boooooring. See I saw you when you first got here, remember. You were all 'Hello' and I was all 'Huuh', remember?" Pinkie Pie said as Sunset and Twilight started to walk towards the snacks and drinks.
Pinkie Pie continues, "You see, I've never seen you arrive here before, and if I've never seen you arrive here before, then you must be new, because I've know everypony, and I mean everypony in Ponyville. So that meant that you don't know any ponies then you must not have any friends around here. And if you don't have any friends around here then you must feel lonely, and that made me so sad. So I had an idea, and that's why I went 'huuuh'. I'd just throw great big, ginormous, super duper, spectacular welcome party and invite everypony in Ponyville. See, and now you have lots and lots of friends," Pinkie Pie finished.
Sunset hadn't realized she had drank hot sauce and turned around holding her breath.
"Are you alright there sugar?" Applejack asks.
Sunset then felt as if her entire body had caught fire, including her mane and tail. She made a bolt for her bathroom upstairs to wash it down with water. Pinkie Pie watched with the rest of her friends and said, "Awww, she is so happy she crying."
As Sunset made it further up the stairs, Twilight grabbed the bottle she had poured and said, "She drank hot sauce."
"That goes great with cupcakes." A cream colored Thestral foal with a curly red mane and glasses said to Twilight. Twilight raised a eyebrow before dumping some on a nearby cupcake and eating it. The others gave her a shocked look as Twilight said with her mouth full, "she's right, it's good."
"I'm Twist." Twist introduces.
"I'm Twilight."
Many hours later, Sunset was resting on her bed as she tried to block out the noise. Just then Garble opened the door and he said, "Hey Sunny, Pinkie Pie's starting pin the suit on slendermane, wanna play?"
"No! all the ponies in this town are CRAZY! Do you know what time it is?!" Sunset asked in her annoyance.
"It's the eve of the Summer Sun Celebration, everypony has to stay up, or they'll miss Celestia raising the sun. You really should lighten up Sunny, it's a party," Garble said as Sunset mocks him while closes the door behind him. He then walked over to the snacks ware , Durpy, Diamond, Applebloom, Sweetie bell, Scootaloo, and Silver spoon were. Twilight, Trixie and Twist were with Pinkie and her three Thestral sisters Marble, Limestone, and Maud, and a group of Thestral fillies, and two unicorn colts. Twilight was currently blind folded and trying to pin the suit on the drawing of a suitless Slendermane.
Meanwhile Sunset was still mad in her room. "Here I thought I'd have time to learn more about the Elements of Harmony, but, silly me, all this ridiculous friend making has kept me from it," Sunset said thinking there's no time left to study.
She stared out the window at the moon as she tried to vent her anger, but as soon as she caught a glimpse of the moon she got up and started saying, "Legend has it that on the longest day of the thousandth year the stars will aid in her escape, and she will bring about everlasting night. I hope Celestia is right. I hope I am just overreacting."
Just then the door swung open again and Garble this time with Twilight said, "Come on Sunny, it's time to watch the sunrise."
Soon the ponies make their way to the town hall. All of the ponies whispering about their excitement to see Princess Celestia raise the sun. Sunset walked to the back of the town hall with the four foals and two dragons, Twilight on her back. Pinkie Pie skidded over to Sunset and Twilight and said "This is so exciting, are you excited, cause I'm excited, I've never been so excited, well, except for that one time I saw you walking into town and I said 'huuh', but I mean really who could top that?"
Soon Fluttershy signals her birds to announce the mayor's arrival. "Mares and stallions, as mayor of Ponyville, it's my great pleasure to announce the beginning of the Summer Sun Celebration."
All the ponies cheer and the mayor continues, "In just a few moments, our town will witness the magic of the sunrise and celebrate this, the longest day of the year."
Sunset, Twilight, Trixie, Durpy, And Diamond looked out the window at the moon and watched in fear the mare in the moon disappear, and not leave her mark as the Mayor continues, "And now, it is my great honor to introduce to you the ruler of our land, the very pony who give us the sun and the moon each and every day. The good, the wise, the bringer of harmony to all of Equestira...."
Fluttershy signaled her birds to be ready as the Mayor said, "Princess Celestia."
Rarity pulled the rope to draw back the curtains and once they did, nopony was there as Rarity said, "Huh?"
"What do we do," Twilight whispered to Sunset as she noticing the look of fear on Sunset's face.
"Remain calm everypony. there must be a reasonable explanation for all of this," the mayor said.
"Oo, oo, I love guessing games, is she hiding?" Pinkie Pie asked, staying exited as always.
Rarity came out where every pony could see her and said, "She's gone."
This in turn made everypony gasp, and Pinkie Pie said, "Ooh she's goooood. Waah!"
Everyponies attention turned back to where a blue mist of some kind had formed. "Oh no...... Nightmare Moon," Sunset whispered, crouching in fear.
Spike, Garble, and Trixie faints at the site of the mare as the dark Alicorn said, "Oh, my beloved subjects, it's been so long since I've seen your precious little sun loving faces."
This made the foals in the room huddle together or hide behind their parents except Twilight who got off Sunset's back without her noticing, whispered something to Durpy, then sneaked off.
"What have you done with Princess Celestia?" Rainbow Dash asked.
She was about to attack the mare when Applejack held her back and said with a mouth full of Rainbow Dash's tail, "whoa there Nelly."
The Alicorn laughed wickedly and asked, "Why, am I not royal enough for you? Don't you know who I am?"
Pinkie Pie then said, "Oo, oo, more guessing games. Um, Hockey Smokes, how about Queen Meany, no, Black Snooty, Black Snooty, (mumbling sounds as an cupcake was shove in her mouth and Applejack tries to play an innocent smile)"
"Does my crown no longer count now that I have been imprisoned for a thousand years? Did you not recall the legend, did you not see the signs?" Nightmare Moon asked as she continued to make the ponies cringe in fear.
Sunset was frozen in fear. She had battled other ponies but she was more scared then she had ever been. However she was broken out of her fearful trance when she heard Twilight shout at the front." I know who you are."
Nightmare Moon jumped down in front of Twilight and grinned showing off her sharp teeth said, "Well, well, well somepony who remembers me, a Thestral foal no less. How cute. So little Thestral who am I."
"You're the M-mare in the M-moon. N-nightmare Moom." Twilight whimpered feeling that this wasn't a good idea anymore. Nightmare moon was just as tall as Celestia and Five times as tall as herself. Plus Nightmare moon could easily kill her right then and there. Twilight tried to back away but Nightmare moon grabbed Twilight with her magic and lifted her up to her face. "I'm not done questioning you, foal." She said firmly. "How do you know that."
"A book." Twilight whimpered.
"Leave her alone!" Sunset cried Teliporting to where Twilight and Nightmare moon were.
At that moment the mayor shouted, "Seize her, only she knows where Princess Celestia is."
The royal guards began to close in on her as she said, "Stand back you fools."
Using her magic, she swatted them away like flies knocking them unconscious, and soon disappeared in her mist and flew through the doors as they opened with Twilight. Rainbow Dash finally breaks loose from Applejack's grip and flew after the mist while she yelled, "Come back here!"
She didn't get very far and the mist was too fast for her. "Nighttime, forever?" she asked to no pony in particular.
She then watched as Sunset bolted out of town hall with Spike, Trixie and Garble on her back as well as Durpy, Ignis, and Diamond running to keep up.
"Where is she going?" Rainbow Dash asked herself as she followed the orange Unicorn.

Chapter 5 (Part 3): What the heck just happened
Outside of Ponyville two unicorn colts were walking around town. They decided not to go to the summer sun celabration. One was 4 years older then the other but much shorter and a bit dense, the other was almost twice the size of his older brother and had a saddle bag on his back. These two were Snips and Snails.
"Snails shouldn't the sun have come up by now?" Snips asked his younger brother. Snails wasn't paying attention, he was thinking of the new thestral filly that was at Pinkie's party.
[Flashback]
A Few hours ago
Snails trotted over to the snack table in the library. At the moment nopony was there. He didn't like going to parties that involved the entire town, because that will involve ponies that will mock and insult him for how "stupid' he is. And well he never showed it, it always upset him. If his older brother Snips didn't ask him to come he wouldn't be here.
"Hello?" A filly voice he did not recognize asked behind him. Snails turned his head to see a Thestral filly he had never seen before. She had a book titled The Elements of Harmony: a reference guide
"Yes, and who are you?" Snails asked surprised and with a hint of nervousness
"Twilight." Twilight said holding out her hoof
"Snails nice to meet you." Snail said a bit more cheerfully
[End of flashback]
Snails was the most happiest he has been in a while, but it was a pity he will never see that pony ever again.
"Snails who's that?" Snips asks out loud as a orange mare bolted past them with two fillies fallowing suit.
"That's miss Shimmer, Princess Celestia prized pupil." Snails said getting a bit confused and worried at them fleeing like that.
"Why are they running?" Snips asked Snails.
"Do I look like I know?" Snails thinks to himself as he says to Snips, "You go home and when I return I'll tell you."
"Okay." Snips said happily and continued on to his home. Snails waved to his older brother then when he was out of sight he ran to catch up to Sunset and the two fillies. despite the saddlebags contents, his long legs easily closing the distance.
"Um excuse me why are you running?" Snails asked when he caught up with Sunset.
"It's Nightmare Moon! She returned from the moon" Diamond Tiara shouted from behind.
Snails eyes widened in horror as he heard what Diamond Tiara said. Still running he turned his head to Diamond and asked "Nightmare moon! The foal eating monster of legend that wanted eternal night!" Snails exclaimed shocked, the two fillies nodded.
Snail then noticed somepony was missing so he asked "Where's Twilight? Slowing down his pace so he could talk to them better.
Diamond winced at the question especially after being reminded of the Nightmare night legend as she said "She's been foalnapped by Nightmare moon!"
Snails eyes defying normal limitations widened even more. He immediate thought of all the horror stories ponies his brothers age would tell of what would happen if you were in the clutches of Nightmare moon, it was enough to know that if they didn't do something soon Twilight was a goner.
"So what do we do?" Snails asked more to himself then any of the others.
Before anypony could say anything Sunset suddenly stopped. They had made it to the Golden Oaks library. Unlocking the door Sunset quickly ushered then inside and locked the door. Once inside Sunset bolted upstairs with Trixie, Spike, and Garble leaving Snails, Diamond, Derpy, and Ignis along in silence. The silence didn't last long as the sound of rummaging was clearly heard by all of them. A few minutes later Sunset came back down alone having put Trixie, Garble, and Spike on her bed before grabbing what she currently had with her. In Sunset's magic was a fully charged electric shooter, A gun that shoots volts of electricity. Her brother Sunburst being captain of the guard had taught her how to use it when she was younger and now she was going to go nightmare hunting. Sunset then stepped out side with Snails and sent a spell that would lock all the doors and window, keeping her foals safe. She then turned to Snails and said "Kid it would be wise if you head home." Before telaporting to the edge of that forest she saw Nightmare moon enter before.
Twilight groaned to herself her 10 second plan not going how she wanted it to. She hoped that if she distracted Nightmare moon somepony could defeat her, like the guards or Sunset. But the guards fail and Twilight wasn't 100% sure if Sunset would stand against a corrupted alicorn that would most likely have no issues with using her as a hostage to halt any guards trying to defeat her or if the legends were correct have no issues eating her. And she tried to escape but some the mist she was trapped in formed around her horn preventing her from using her magic. But Twilight hoped that what ever plan Sunset had would work. Otherwise even if she wasn't devoured, death by starvation and cold was not any better.
