1/7/12 - more backstory of Scootaloo and extended ending.
Scootaloo was hanging out with Rainbow and I, relaxing in Ponyville. She had something on her mind.
"Rainbow. Green. Can you...teach me to fly? PLEASE!" She looked at us with puppy-dog eyes. We looked at each other and nodded.
"Yeah. We can teach yeah, squirt. Be warned. I can get, a little, how you say..."
"Egotistical, Dashie." She shot me a glare, but smiled.
"Eh...yeah....I guess. Anyway. Let's begin." We walked to an open field and decided to start with some stretches; the training followed.
"First things first. Let me see your wings, Scoots." She obliged and unfolded them. They were not as slick as Rainbow's, but good still; that's expected from fillies. "They look..good. Reminds me of me way back when. Now, let's begin with a sample of your current...talents." Scootaloo hovered not 2cm from the ground and buzzed around the area, fast actually. After stopping, Rainbow approached her. "The key is control. Focus all momentum down and...." She backed up. "Lift off." She flapped her wings and lifted up. She slowly floated down. "Now you try." Scoot focused and flapped her wings with all her might and...she took off.....3 FEET?! She knew what to do as she rhythmically flapped her wings to stay in midair. Rainbow was crying and I was stupefied. She was flying! "..........Come down." Scootaloo slowly descended and was welcomed with a hug by a sobbing pegasus. "I'm.........so.........proud......of you, Scoots," Rainbow managed to say in between sobs. I started to cry too. It was so happy. Scootaloo was smiling ear to ear. I joined in and hugged her too. We sat down.
"I guess pulling around the crusaders really builds up muscles." Scootaloo said, opening her wings. She smiled, proud of her accomplishment.
"I guess it does," I said, nodding.
"How about we pick up tomorrow, Scoots?" Rainbow asked.
"Sounds good to me." Scootaloo scampers off. We look at each other, proud of what she accomplished.
"Next is moving forward. I'll take care of it if you don't mind, Dashie." She shrugged, relaxing on the grass wearing her favorite sunglasses. Scoots and I were already in the air. She had improved over yesterday by reaching 6 feet. "Now, flap back to go forward." I demonstrated. She followed. I taught her how to turn and such. We trained for a while, taking breaks in between. We celebrated at Rainbow's house, which Scootaloo could now get to. She had Apple Juice, I had Bottled Water(I only drink that; no offence to soda/energy drinks) and Rainbow had Diet Red Pegasus(ha-ha). After a while, we decided to let Pinkie throw Scootaloo a party to celebrate; why waste time holding off the inevitable.
"LET THE "SCOOTALOO CAN FLY" PARTY BEGIN!" shouted Pinkie, standing on a table. I questioned her table-standing, but quickly shrugged it off to enjoy the party. After a while, I noticed Scootaloo in the corner, leaning on a wall, looking sad.
"Poor kid," Twilight came up to me.
"What's wrong with her?" She leaned in.
"She doesn't have parents?" My eyes widened. I dragged her upstairs for a minute.
"WHAT! What happened?"
"No pony knows..." Rainbow flew upstairs, scaring me half to death. "Sorry. Anyway, one night, she appeared at the orphanage and has been there ever since. I feel so bad for her.....I.....was the same....sort of."
"What happened to you?" I asked.
"After quitting flight school, they just left me all alone." She started to cry. I hugged her, brushing her mane. Feeling better, she continued. "I don't want the poor kid to end up like that. I just wish we could..." I grabbed her and kissed her.
"RAINBOW, YOUR A GENIUS!....but..." I was silent for a moment. "I have a plan, but I'll need your full co-operation, Rainbow." I whispered the plan in her ear. Though hesitant at first, she agreed and we quickly made our way to the orphanage.
Scootaloo arrived back at Ponyville Orphanage, where she lives, as she is greeted by the head-mistress, looking happier than usual. "I've been looking everywhere for you. Somepony has adopted you. I believe you will like who it is." She winked at her. They headed to her office and..."RAINBOW DASH?" She fainted.
10 minutes later...
".................Hey.....Scoots....you okay?" She asked the waking filly.
"I had the most amazing dream. You were going to adopt me and..........It wasn't a dream, was it?" She nodded and was greeted with a tear-felt hug by Scootaloo. "THANK YOU SO MUCH! THIS WILL BE SO AWESOME!" The young filly cried into the rainbow mane for minutes. She wasn't aware of it, but Rainbow was crying, too.
"Don't forget about Daddy," I said, entering the room. Scootaloo came up and hugged me.
"I love you, Dad." Dad. I like the sound of that. We finished the paperwork and sat on the bench outside. All I could think was how lucky we were to not have to deal with diapers.
"Can we go home, Daddy?" asked Scootaloo. I could get used to that.
"Alright; It's getting late anyway." We left and made our way back to Dash's. I already decided that I'd get my stuff moved here in the morning. We flew up and entered. It was 10pm. We decided to let Scoots sleep with us tonight and in the guest room for a while until...proper arrangements were made. We brushed our teeth, rinsed and got into bed. It had a cloud blanket like my favorite blue blanket at Twilight's; I've been there the whole time...eh.
"Good night, Scootaloo. Good Night, Sweetie."
"Good night, Mama Dashie. Good night, Greeny." Goody, more nicknames.
"Good Night, Scoots. Good Night, Dashie." I kissed Dash and we went to sleep.
