Chapter 69: The Wyvern Home Guard

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

A thin layer of smoke hung in the air around Kilgharrah as the island was more alive than normal around the dorms. Wyvern House, in particular, was tamer than the others as they moved at a leisurely pace, bringing crates over from the main campus, which are being unboxed by Alexander and Jerry.

"It's amazing to think these uniforms still fit each year," Alexander states as he checks each one, folding them up.

"They are lined with magical shifting threads adjusting the uniform to an individual wearer, ensuring it's comfortable. Saves money in the long run between years, I suppose." Jerry comments doing the same with his crate.

Alexander chuckles before sighing as he reaches the bottom of his crate before Vivienne walks over rubbing her neck.

"Stupid siege game rules..." Vivienne groans as she grabs a female commander uniform and ducts behind a screen to change.

"I thought you had your own uniform?" Alexander asks, flipping open a crate by flicking his wrist and snapping his fingers.

More groans come from behind the screen before Vivienne walks out, wearing black and crimson military fatigues. She stretches, cracking a few limbs before making a few hand motions, collecting mana before slapping her hands together. The resulting impact sends out a very loud shockwave into the sky, slightly shaking the atmosphere and nearby windows.

"Get out here ya lazy bums!" Vivienne yells at the dorm, hearing multiple groans and crashes as she turns back to Alexander, "I do... Racheal has put it in for a cleaning at the moment which blows..."

Alexander and Jerry uncover their ears as people start slowly coming out of the dorm to get their uniforms and get changed behind screens as Vivienne did. Ignis sighs as he walks down the stairs from the third floor to stand in the middle of the preparation area.

"As you are all aware, we are using the Siege Games ruleset to deal with this particular threat. During these times a seal is activated under the academy which prevents death, but turns you into a small stuffed toy sized chibi version of your familiar while you recover mana and heal." At the mention of this, Alexander groans lightly while looking around, "During said time until the situation is resolved, I encourage everyone to perform at their best in their assignments and help one another during this difficult time. I leave you all in the capable hands of your commanders." Ignis states before making his way towards the main campus.

Vivienne takes a seat on a nearby table as they are joined by Ripley and Nicolas, Jerry putting his hands in the pockets of his trench coat while looking at Alexander. The man in question shrugs before Vivienne punches his shoulder.

"Go on. Time to live up to that nickname they gave you in the first year." Vivienne smiles as Alexander sighs deeply. "I know you hate public speaking... But the atmosphere is so fucking dense right now... We're literally the bottom of the pecking order here, spirits aren't exactly high."

Ventus chuckles, 'she has a point, even Pegasus was a vastly sturdier house in comparison.' He comments making Alexander scoff slightly.

"Fuck you and your Pegasus House bollocks..." Alexander states under his breath, making Vivienne tilt her head before he jumped up onto a table, the girl in question clicking her fingers to make a loud noise that quiets the crowd. "I'll make this plain and simple, I hate public speaking... However, it seems nobody else knows what to say and everyone looks like someone just killed their dog..." Alexander takes a deep breath, spotting Starlight joining the crowd nearby, "During my first year here, it was rough... You're new to magic, people tease you, put you down then start giving you shit for apparently being in the lowest house. I was fortunate to have a few friends coming here with me but it wasn't any less of a pain. Normally last year in games like this we got Sophie Spitfire to give such rousing speeches, this year you have me. I'm an asshole, I'm not nice and stubborn most of the time but you all seemed to think it was a good idea to nickname me the 'commandant'... While not being good at personal relations, I seem to apply peoples skills where they need to be. We're not the best, we're not the brightest, we're the house of misfits and offcuts that nobody in the other houses wants to think about... But we're also fucking Wyvern House! We're named after a fucking Dragon! We're not here just because. We apply magic in our own unique way and develop it accordingly. We're going to show either one of these ancient assholes that we don't give a fuck if you're blue or yellow-"

"What about brown?" A random student shouts.

"Golem House is cool, we get along with them." Alexander had to think then point in their direction, "But yeah, we don't give a fuck what colour you come from, we'll struggle as much as we damn well please to send them back where they fucking came from!" He concludes, looking around at the lack of applause, "And there will be loot!" Alexander adds which excites an applause making him sigh as he sits down.

Jerry shrugs as Vivi pats his shoulder, "Not exactly a Spitfire original, but it'll do."

Starlight makes her way over to Alexander who rubs his face and sighs, "You really do hate public speaking, don't you?" She giggles and smiles making Alexander roll his eyes.

"Was it that obvious?" Alexander chuckles, "Shame I won't be here after everything starts kicking off. I've been working on a plan for after Edward is found and it's something I definitely need to do. I've asked someone to come over later to help me add some touches to a spell, Fae Shy."

Starlight flicks her ear, "Seriously? Fluttershy? Well, this should be interesting. I hope you plan to explain everything later?" She raises an eyebrow at Alexander.

"I do, eventually... It's still in the works and needs a lot of tweaking. I doubt it's even safe to do..." Alexander muses to himself out loud.

'Considering it has only ever been done once... I'd say the chances of you becoming food for some wandering sprite, highly likely.' Ventus comments making Alexander frown.

Alexander stands up and sighs, looking at Starlight. "They can handle things here, want to come wait in the room with me?"

"Come what? Oh, right. We can do, I'm intrigued to meet the other Flutters." Starlight replies blushing as she starts walking towards the room ahead of Alexander who watches her leave.

'I will comment your taste isn't entirely lacking...' Alexander clicks his tongue annoyingly.

'Don't eye up my girlfriend you perverted Dragon... That's not cool at all.' Alexander replies inside his head hearing a chuckle.

'You do not want to make this a size contest, I am much larger than any pony she has likely seen.' Ventus comments with pride.

'I don't care if you're fucking Godzilla, I'll make you a eunuch, you bastard.' Alexander states before following Starlight.

'You are welcome to try in Spirita little boy.' Ventus comments making Alexander groan.

Alexander pours himself a shot of Cinder fruit punch before sighing as he hears a knock on the door, Starlight's ear perking up as she peeks over a magical grimoire she borrowed from the library on sigils and ritual layers. As Alexander opens the door, he can see Fae standing there wearing the combat uniform for Valkyrie House which is an above knee height skirt with black stockings, white shirt and yellow blazer with an insignia of two vertical silver blocks held in the middle by two lines near either end.

"I was wondering if you'd make it, given what was dumped on the houses this morning. They promoted you to Captain this year? That's nice, albeit unexpected." Alexander comments, letting Fae in as she sighs and walks to sit on the beanbag.

"With so few third-year students able to take leadership roles at such short notice due to being off campus... I didn't really have much of a choice." Fae glances over at Starlight, looking her slender body up and down despite wearing the Wyvern House girls combat uniform. "Oh dear... Alexander, what did you do?"

Alexander groans and directs the normally timid girl to his messy sheets on the coffee table, "It's a long story... The notes are there, hopefully, you can do something with them."

Fae frowns before shuffling to the designated spot, looking over things before already grabbing a clean piece of paper to begin scribbling her work down. Starlight grows more confused as the girl passes her glances every now and then till she simply has to ask.

"Does this make my butt look that big?" Starlight asks abruptly, making Fae blush wildly.

"Don't distract the poor girl with your ass... That is like me without my shirt." Starlight blushes as he strokes her legs, "She's glancing because she knows you're not my familiar. Her personal sprite allows her to see magician's symbols, it's an extremely rare gift that is very selectively given."

Starlight looks at Fae who continues to blush before giving her another glance which gets her a wink making her explode further. Alexander shakes his head, sighing before realising something which makes him look around slightly. After several moments and phases of switching his facial expression, Alexander makes a circular motion with his arms, forming a sphere in between his hands before it pops and a small scaled Dragon stretches, sporting a look much like the Toon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from YU-GI-OH.

"Behold the majesty that is the king of the wind, the almighty-" Ventus opens his eyes, looking at his frame as he jumps up and grabs Alexanders collar. "What did ya do to me, you vile wretch?! My magnificent visage reduced to this adorable mockery!"

Fae stands up, plucking Ventus from Alexander before sitting back down on the beanbag, the Dragon in her lap as she pets his head softly while figuring out some equations. Ventus makes a fuss for a minute or so before being subdued by the experienced summoner, falling victim to her head pats.

"Wasn't expecting that... It's the first time I've had to do something like this..." Alexander sighs as he lifts up Starlight's bare legs, placing them on his lap as he takes a seat, "I feel the plan could backfire... Fae's magic is solid, there's no worry there. However, entering the familiar plane to find a summon who will answer me with Ventus there... That's another challenge."

Starlight places a bookmark on her page before closing the grimoire, "Did none answer the call at the start of the year?"

Alexander ponders for a moment, idly stroking and squeezing her legs as he thinks, "I recall one presence. Given how strong Edward's affinity is, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Golem class familiar. Golems are often made up of a singular material, but it is not uncommon to get more complex versions. I'd wager it was a Golem of the fourth tier, maybe third, they'd encompass the elements he'd likely require given his profession."

Starlight nods, paying attention as she hums and sighs, watching him idly work her legs before stopping as he realises with a blush. "Oh, please, continue. Don't mind the company, she's more than occupied."

Alexander rolls his eyes, "You're terrible, maybe you'll get more later but I have some preparations to make before the trip. Though, I suppose I could spend a little more time on this." He chuckles as Starlight leans back, Fae simply blushing while she works on the spell composition.
