Two Spells, One Mistake
Chapter 60: Mountain Homefront
Previous Chapter Next ChapterSetup along the mountain ridges are a large percentage of the Valkyrie House girls, working in teams of three to four they try to suppress the seemingly endless tide of Shadowfright's minions. On the balcony next to the pool at the Valkyrie House dorm, sits a second-year, field commander dressed female in black and lightning yellow with a matching captain's cap. Beside her, along the balcony, are a few solo shooters using lightning bolt snipers to try and help the forward bulwark.
"Ya'll shoot like men on prom night, start aiming ladies! I want to hear those Nightmare Force goons hit the floor damn it!" She flips through a gun magazine that she is reading.
"Commander Steele!" A young girl in a regular Valkyrie House uniform runs over to the woman, "Private Rebbeca Shale, reporting! It would appear that our vanguard at the base of the mountain is encountering increased resistance from two identical twin girls, we suspect they'll hit our secondary bulwark within hours, ma'am."
Sighing deeply and standing up to stretch, Steele throws the magazine behind her into the chair before walking over to the rail and leaning on it. Glancing beside her, a small impish size familiar wearing the same style of outfit as Steele, with red spikes on her shoulders and chewing a stick of wheat. Forming a bow of lightning, she aims it quite high, her familiar aiding in pulling back the string harder than normal. After channelling enough power, she releases the formed arrow which flies into the sky, splitting at its apex to rain down a hail upon the Nightmare Force around the base of the mountain checkpoint. Majority of the Nightmare Force hit, explode into shadow after impact, leaving their stronger friends behind weaker than before.
"I'll do a few more in a bit, anything else?" Steele asks glancing over at the carnage that is the Golem House fortress wall, that protects the academy direction.
"They did always say they'd build 'that wall'..." Rebbeca states unamused as she leaves the field commander in peace.
Flipping out her phone she dials a number which is soon picked up by one, 'Richard Stoner'.
"Nice light show, Chica!" A sudden voice states from the other side.
"Always. Did you have to build that eyesore on my view?" Steele asks, leaning on the pole again while her familiar sits down.
Steele hears a lot of yelling and shouting in Mexican before his attention is drawn back to her.
"It was the best place, kinda. It's just until we get our bunker fortifications in place, that stuff takes a lot of material so... We're taking it off the wall little by little but also keeping the defensive line sturdy. These pendejos don't know when to quit so it'll likely be a while, how's the spa doing?" He asks now sawing something.
"Mary Iron has it covered, for the most part, you just worry about keeping those 'pendejos', off the academy and the student village..." Steele rubs her forehead, glancing up at the sky.
Above them can be seen the pinnacle of the Valkyrie House defence force doing what they do best, aerial combat. The 'Valkyries', girls of the house properly trained to form wings from their lightning, are proficient at being the strongest aerial combat units at the academy, rivalled only by the Dragoons from Wyvern House.
"Let us hope so, it'd be a real blow to morale if we lost one of the most popular relaxation spots on the whole island... Anyway, gotta go, still plenty to do." He hangs up quickly after shouting something to someone else in Mexican.
Rolling her eyes, Steele sighs and leans on her hand, staring into the distance at the whole academy.
Shadowfright sighs as she leans back in her old oak chair, chewing what appears to cherry flavour gum. One of the bigger dorm rooms has been converted into a planning room with a shadow map on a dark oak table at the centre displaying the whole campus.
"You appear to be agitated, Shadowfright," Maestro states relaxing on a nearby sofa.
"It's been two weeks and still no promised ruler... He said to have patience and hold back. I'm sick of being lied to and betrayed, it's time we took what is rightfully ours." Shadowfright stands up and adjusts her jacket.
Getting up to follow Shadowfright, Maestro is led through the hallways of their HQ all the way downstairs to another room which has been converted into an armoury of sorts with various metal cages holding several different shadow weapons. Looking up from their welding is a slightly fat, short black haired pale guy wearing a striped shirt, black jeans and shoes.
"Ho, what can I do for you?" The male asks in a slightly deep voice.
"I'm going to need my Lunar blade, we're not waiting around anymore playing with those idiots and their wall..." Shadowfright demands still chewing her gum.
Thinking for a moment, he walks over to a drawer, opening it to pull out a key.
"This is going to take a few days, your sword wasn't sealed in the easiest to reach place..." He states grabbing his coat before leaving the back of the room through a portal.
"Charlie better be able to get my sword... In the meantime, I want you to give the troops an order." Shadowfright states as she turns to leave the room.
"What order might that be, my lady?" Maestro asks, placing her hands behind her back.
Smirking slightly, Shadowfright glances behind her before spitting the gum into a nearby bin.
"Execute order, 66..." She states before leaving, Maestro nodding with a slight bow.
