Chapter 47: Hello Darkness, My Old Friend

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Sitting on the edge of the mountain path, where Alexander took Starlight before, sits the mysterious mare who previously released the slime. This time she sits with a medium sized box with similar intricate engravings as the cube that held the slime. Pressing several mechanisms and buttons it eventually whirls and opens a circle slot which pours forth a thick dark shadowy entity which materializes beside her in the form of a big bird with bright red eyes outlined with black.

"Ooh~ oh yess~ that feels amazing after a few centuries imprisoned in such a small box." The creatures states stretching its limbs.

"It took me a while to find what I needed, you'll have to forgive my tardiness." The mare states glancing at him.

"That's one way to put it... I see nothing has changed and-" The creature looks at the academy. "Well, I guess building an academy on the tomb of your rogue pupil is one way to do it..."

The mare glares at him from under her hood.

"It's not funny nor amusing Shadowfright... Or would you prefer 'Larry'?" She states making him groan.

"Fine, sorry... Still a bit much though, don't you think? Also wasn't there more land here before?" Shadowfright asks looking around.

"Once upon a time, yeah... We have work to do." The mare gets up and begins levitating down the mountainside followed closely by Shadowfright.

Once they reach the bottom, the mysterious mare leads them towards the other side of Kilgharrah Academy opposite the spa. Searching through the forest the pair come upon a dilapidated old rundown dorm facility which has been warded and closed off. Atop the fence pedestal at the gate is a Pegasus relief which has been grown over with ivy. Looking around Shadowfright appears weary of the place.

"While I agree we need to use everything in our arsenal to revive you... Is this a good move? Opting to release 'them'?" Shadowfright reluctantly follows the mare into the dorm facility.

"I brought you back, didn't I? You both create a material I need in order to fulfil my mission. You don't need to work together, in fact, I encourage that you don't." She waves her hand in front of an old door to the left of the dual staircase in the main room.

Clicking unlocked, the door creaks open to reveal a set of stairs which lead downwards, likely to the basement. Following the path, the pair explores the cobwebbed remains of the dorm facilities storage rooms.

"If you say so... What happened to Camelot?" Shadowfright asks as he peeks around in a few barrels.

"We're in it." She replies casually inspecting a wall.

"We're on an island... You can't seriously tell me he took up all of Camelot to here?" Shadowfright looks at the mare sharply.

"Do not be stupid, the land itself is also Camelot... He detached and shifted it here, then rejoined the land. Why do you think England is just that little bit smaller?" The mare smiles back at Shadowfright.

"And he called you crazy! That's ridiculous... I get he imprisoned you below Camelot but... Wait! This academy is Camelot castle?!" Shadowfright flies beside the mare with wide eyes.

"He never did do anything the easy way, he imprisoned all that era's problems... Including his own, coward..." The mare draws a magic symbol in the dust on the wall in front of them before standing back with Shadowfright.

Clicking her fingers the magical sigil explodes to reveal a tunnel beyond.

"I still say moving the whole kingdom was a bit much..." Shadowfright follows the mare through the hole.

The hole is just as run down as the building above with a faint glowing light at the end. Exiting the tunnel the pair are faced with a small room where the whole end wall is some form of mirror but the reflection is distorted. Upon getting closer it can be seen Shadowfright has no reflection while the mares is a twisted dark image more malicious than Shadowfright's.

"There you are... It's been too long since he sealed you away after you slaughtered all of Pegasus House... Let us see who will die this time." The mare chuckles as she strokes the surface lightly.

"I'll leave this to you while I gather my brethren from the surface of the lunar realm." While leaving Shadowfright stops briefly. "This will be the last time we follow you, two chances is more than enough for you to deliver on your promise. Camelot will be ours or it will burn this time..." Shadowfright leaves making the mare roll her eyes beneath her hood.

Author's Notes:

Well, that escalated quickly. With this chapter, we move onto our first main arc which we have dubbed: The Lunar Nightmare Arc. This arc is going to be a sight longer than the previous arcs, which looking at them says it's going to be one hella long arc, but we should be able to do it right. As you can tell we're going to be juggling two major key points in this arc, so bear with us a little as we develop it further. We hope to see you next time. :moustache:
