Chapter 1: A One Sided Love?

Chapter 1: A One Sided Love?

"Rainbow, dear" Rarity said as she took a seat next to Rainbow Dash, "I think you're in love"

"How is that even possible?!" Rainbow said, suddenly taking flight.

"Well, ever since you got into Daring Do you've been spending a lot more time with Twilight, so maybe you developed feelings for her then"

"Seriously," Rainbow landed, nearly face to face with Rarity, "Are you saying I fell in love over books?"

"It would seem that way"

"Great, so I'm in love, but now what?" Rainbow began pacing back and forth, "She's my friend, and she's a mare! There's no way she'd want to go along with something like this!"

"She might, you never know dear" Rarity said as Rainbow began to pace even faster, "Maybe you should go clear your head, that might help calm you down"

"Yeah, maybe, well, see you later Rarity"

"Of course dear, if you need anything else don't hesitate to ask" Rarity said as she went back to work on a dress.

Rainbow Dash didn't quite hear what Rarity had said, but she didn't care, she had other things to think about. She just couldn't believe it, how could she be in love with an egghead like Twilight? There's no way they could have fallen in love over the Daring Do books, right? Without even noticing Rainbow had begun to fly in a circle, and was creating a small tornado, much to everypony's annoyance. After apologizing to everypony Rainbow flew off towards Fluttershy's cottage, hoping that the shy mare might have something that could help her.

Knock, knock, knock

Rainbow quickly tapped the door, as if doing so would make Fluttershy answer it faster. After a few minutes Rainbow pounded on the door again, only to have it opened by a very annoyed looking Angel.

"Oh, hey Angel, where's Fluttershy?" Rainbow asked as she looked through the doorway for any signs of the Pegasus.

"Why, hello there Rainbow, I didn't think you were going to stop by today" Fluttershy said as she made her way past Rainbow into the house.

"Were you out back or something?"

"Yes, one of the squirrels was having babies, so I had to help her give birth"

"That's gross," Rainbow said as she made a gagging motion, "but whatever, I need your help"

"With what?"

"Well, uh..." Rainbow said, her cheeks slowly turning red.

"Is it a stallion?" Fluttershy asked, taking a guess at what was making Rainbow turn red.

"No..."

"A mare?"

"Yeah..."

"Who is it?"

"Twilight" Rainbow muttered quietly.

"Who?"

"Twilight" Rainbow muttered again, slightly louder this time.

"I can't hear you"

"Urgh! It's Twilight, okay?!" Rainbow said as she threw her hooves into the air.

"Really, you love Twilight?! Oh my gosh!" Fluttershy said with a squeak.

"Yeah, now, can you help me out here?"

"What do you need help with?"

"I don't know if I should tell her"

"Why, are you afraid she doesn't feel this way about you?"

"No, of course not! There's isn't a pony in Equestria that doesn't love me!" Rainbow said as she pushed out her chest.

"Oh really?" Fluttershy said, obviously seeing through Rainbow's ego.

"Yeah I'm afraid, this is the first time I've ever fallen in love," Rainbow said as she softly landed, hanging her head low, "I mean, what if she doesn't accept, and then doesn't want to be friends anymore?"

"Don't worry Rainbow, I'm sure she accept you, all you have to do is tell her" Fluttershy said as she patted her on the back.

"Yeah, I guess, but how should I tell her?"

"You could ask her on a date, and tell her then"

"That's a great idea, thanks Fluttershy!" Rainbow shouted as she hugged Fluttershy just before she flew away. She knew what she had to do. She was going to ask Twilight out on a date, maybe to some fancy place in Canterlot, and then when things were settling down, tell her how she felt. It was the perfect plan, there was no way it would fail!

__________________________________________________________

"Sorry Rainbow, but I'm really busy right now" Twilight said as if normal, but for Rainbow, those words were like daggers, each of them stabbing straight into her heart. She didn't even want to stay there, she just wanted to go find a cloud to sit on and cry. She gave Twilight her heart, and it was shot down. What was she going to do now? How could she tell Twilight how she felt if she didn't want to go on a date? Rainbow wasn't able to think about it for much longer, as she had completely broken down by the time she found a cloud. All that she could do was cry.

What was she thinking? Why would Twilight want to go on a date with an idiot like her? She's the princess' personal student, and Rainbow was just a weather pony! Rainbow couldn't help it, she was devastated. In such a short time she realized that she loved Twilight, and wanted to tell her how she felt, only to be shut down. She had never gone through something like this before, it was as if the Wonderbolts had told her she would never join them.

What if Twilight really is just busy? Rainbow thought to herself, Then, who would know how she really felt...

"Shining Armor!" Rainbow shouted as she took off towards Canterlot with the hopes that Twilight's brother would know something.

__________________________________________________________

"Sorry, but we can't let you in"

"I'm the element of loyalty for Celestia's sake, just let me in!" Rainbow shouted as she tried to push past the two guards that were blocking her path. After a minute of struggling Rainbow gave up, knowing that there was no way she would be able to make it past them. Although her luck started to change when Shining Armor came around the corner, and started heading towards her.

"Rainbow Dash, what are you doing here?" Shining Armor said, obviously somewhat happy to see her.

"Well, I was hoping I could talk to you"

"Sure, what is it?"

"In private?"

"Oh, of course, just follow me" Shining said as he told the two guards to move out of the way. Rainbow made sure the that she had stuck her tongue out at both of them, but she couldn't tell if they had seen it or not, or if they even cared. She continued to follow Shining Armor through the castle, occasionally seeing a piece of art depicting her and her friends.

"So, what is it?" Shining Armor said as he made sure nopony was around.

"Well, I was wondering if Twilight talks to you about anypony she might like"

"Yeah, she does, but don't you already know?"

"Well, uh..."

"She hasn't told you yet has she?"

"Told me what?"

"She likes you, she's just too nervous to tell you"

"Really?!"

"Yeah, she told me after me and Cadance got back from our honeymoon"

"This is so awesome!" Rainbow suddenly remembered why she was here in the first place, "Then why did she turn me down when I asked her on a date?"

"Well, what reason did she give you?"

"That she was busy with something"

"Then she really was busy, or she was nervous about it"

"So I still have a chance?"

"Of course, just give her some time, then ask her again, I know she'll say yes"

"Awesome! Thanks for the help!" Rainbow said as she hugged Shining Armor.

"Anytime you need help with this, you can come see me, you know that right?"

"Now I do, and thanks again!" Rainbow said as she took off, flying full speed back to Ponyville, eager to help Twilight with whatever she's doing, hoping that the sooner it's done, the sooner she can ask Twilight out on a date.

Chapter 2: A Helping Hoof

Chapter 2: A Helping Hoof

Knock, knock

"Just a second!" Twilight yelled from inside the library, "Oh, hi Rainbow!"

"Hey Twi, I was, uh, wondering if maybe you wanted some help with, whatever it is you're doing?" Rainbow asked shyly

"Uh, sure, I guess" Twilight said, "Your not still mad about earlier, right?"

"What? Me, mad that you couldn't go somewhere with me?" Rainbow said with a laugh.

"So, your not mad?"

"No, I'm not, but you do have to make it up to me"

"Oh, uh, okay" Twilight said with a blush, "So, can you run this over to Sweet Apple Acres for me?"

"Huh?" Rainbow said, somewhat out of it.

"Can you bring this book to the farm?" Twilight said while floating a book in front of her, "Applebloom said she needed it"

"Oh, yeah, be back in a flash!" Rainbow said as she grabbed the book and flew out the window. Yes!, Rainbow thought to herself, She blushed when I said she had to make it up to me, maybe she really does like me! Rainbow constantly went over the moment in her head, the effects of her first love making everything seem even more amazing. Of course since Rainbow was busy focusing on Twilight she didn't notice the farm house rapidly appearing over the horizon.

THUD

"OW!"

"Nice flyin' there Rainbow!" Applejack shouted from between laughs.

"Oh shut up!" Rainbow shouted back.

"So, what brings you here at this hour?" Applejack asked as Rainbow landed, still rubbing her head.

"Twilight said Applebloom wanted this book"

"Oh, well, she's over in the tree house with her friends" Applejack said as she motion towards the orchards, "But why are you delivering books for Twilight?"

"Uh, no reason, I just thought I'd be an awesome friend!" Rainbow said suspiciously.

"Oh really?"

"Yeah, just me being a good friend" Rainbow said with a nervous laugh. She started to sneak away as Applejack stared at her, attempting to figure out what was going on. Thankfully Rainbow was saved when Big Mac came out of the house to get his sisters.

"Dinner time!" Big Mac shouted as he rang a bell.

"Looks like you gotta go, well, I'll see you around!" Rainbow said as she quickly dashed off, trying to escape Applejack's stare.

"Yeah, see ya around..." Applejack said to herself as she watched Rainbow fly away.

__________________________________________________________

"I wonder when Twilight's gonna give me that book" Applebloom said as she rested her head in her hooves.

"Yeah, we need it so we can find out cutie marks!" Scootaloo said.

"You mentioned a book?"

"Rainbow Dash!" Scootaloo shouted as she ran towards her hero.

"Hey kid," she quickly rubbed Scootaloo's head, "Twilight said you wanted this book, so, uh, here it is"

"Wow, thanks Rainbow!" Scootaloo said happily.

"Yeah, thanks Rainbow" Applebloom said as she grabbed the book, "Wait, why are you giving me the book?"

"Why does everypony care about why I have the book?" Rainbow said as she stormed out of the club house, "Can't I just be doing it as a friend?!" Rainbows outburst caused Scootaloo to jump back, surprised at how her idol was acting. Applebloom just stared at Rainbow in confusion as she flew away, but unknown to them, Sweetie Belle was sitting in the back corner, laughing. She knew what was causing Rainbow to act this way, but she swore to her sister that she wouldn't tell anypony.

__________________________________________________________

Rainbow was flying away, nearly fast enough to create a sonic rainboom. She was angry at everypony for trying to figure out why she was helping Twilight. It's only a book, it's not like I was doing something really important?, Rainbow thought to herself as she got closer to the library, Act cool, you can't let Twilight know about it.

"I'm back!" Rainbow announced as she landed in the library's main room. When Twilight didn't answer Rainbow started to worry. Was this book delivery just so she could shake me off? What if she's already seeing somepony? What if she ran away so she didn't have to...

"Welcome back, sorry, I was just making some tea" Twilight said, causing Rainbow to jump.

"Oh, okay, I thought..." Rainbow said, starting to feel embarrassed.

"You thought what?" Twilight asked as she brought out the tea pot along with two cups, "Tea?"

"Uh, sure, and it was nothing" Rainbow said as she accepted the tea cup.

"You sure, because you're acting kinda strange"

"Ya, I guess I am..." Rainbow trailed off, worried that she might have just screwed everything up.

"Maybe you're just tired, if you want to you can go home and get some sleep"

"No!" Rainbow suddenly shouted, "No, it's fine, I can keep working!"

"Oh, well, in that case..." Twilight said as she pulled a scroll out of nowhere, "Can you help me with this?"

"Sure, it doesn't seem so tough" Rainbow said happily as she noticed how tiny the scroll looked to be.

"Good, who knows how long this might have taken me if I was all by myself" Twilight said as the scroll unrolled, causing Rainbow's jaw to drop. the scroll had seemed like it was only a small amount of things, but once unrolled it was a massive list of chores, odd jobs, and pointless nitpicking.

"How the..." Rainbow muttered as she looked at the list as it continued to unravel.

"Sorry, I used a 'shrink it' spell on it so I could save space" Twilight said bashfully.

"Well, we might as well get started, now where to begin..."

__________________________________________________________

"Holy horse apples!" Rainbow said as she fell to the ground, "That took forever!"

"Yeah, but at least it's done!" Twilight said, using her magic to reheat her tea.

"Yeah, well, I think I'm going to head home" Rainbow said as she made her way to the door, "See you tomorrow"

"Okay, see you" Twilight said as Rainbow flew away, "Oh, what's this?" Twilight looked down to see one of Rainbow's feathers on the ground in front of her. I've never seen a Pegasus feather on it's own before, Twilight thought to herself as she picked it up, I wonder if there's anything I can learn from it?

Twilight quickly pulled out a book on Pegasus history, and read up on their feathers. "In Pegasus tradition, a single feather is given to a Pegasi's chosen mate..." Twilight said to herself, "If the feather is accepted the mate places the feather in their mane" Twilight stared absentmindedly at the feather, unsure of what she was going to do now. Would Rainbow find it weird if I put it in my mane? I wonder if she'd get mad about it...

"Oh, well, I'll think about it tomorrow" Twilight said as she made her way towards her bedroom.

__________________________________________________________

Knock, knock

"Hey Twilight, you in there?!" Rainbow shouted up towards the library window. When Twilight didn't respond she flew up to the balcony to see if Twilight was inside. As she landed she heard a loud thud come from inside. Rainbow quickly flew into the door, bashing it open. When Rainbow came inside she saw a purple hoof sticking out of a pile of books in the middle of the floor.

"Twilight!" Rainbow shouted as she quickly pulled on the hoof, hoping that Twilight wasn't seriously injured.

"Hi Rainbow, what are you doing here?" Twilight asked as she got to her hooves.

"Are you okay?" Rainbow asked frantically.

"Yeah, I just got distracted, and I ended up dropping the books on myself" Twilight said while rubbing the back of her head.

"Oh," Rainbow then realized what distracted her, "Sorry..."

"It's fine..." Twilight said shyly.

Awkward silence...

"So, uh, what's up?" Rainbow said after a few minutes.

"Nothing much, just doing some more chores" Twilight said as she began to pick up the books that she had dropped.

"More chores! I thought we got them all done yesterday?!" Rainbow said as she flew in front of Twilight's face.

"We did finish that list, but, I, uh..."

"Let me guess, you have more of them"

"Yeah..."

"Urgh" Rainbow groaned as she smacked her hoof against her face. She quickly looked around for any signs of a list, and noticed a small scroll sitting on top of a bunch of books. Rainbow quickly pulled open the scroll, only to find it expanding like the scroll from yesterday, and it was just as long.

"Sorry..." Twilight said sheepishly.

"It's fine," Rainbow said as she looked over the list, "Well then, let's get to work!"

"You're still going to help?" Twilight asked, looking at the feather out of the corner of her eye.

"Of course, I said I would help you didn't I?"

"Oh, yeah, I guess you did," Twilight said as she shook her head, "Okay, let's get started!"

"Yeah!" Rainbow cheered as she started to pick up the books on the floor.

Chapter 3: Rest and Relaxation

Chapter 3: Rest and Relaxation

"Urgh..." Rainbow moaned as she collapsed on the floor, "Are we done yet?"

"Almost, just have to put this book over there, and, done!" Twilight said triumphantly.

"Thank Celestia, I think my muscles were about to give out" Rainbow said as she sprawled out on the floor.

"Yeah me too" Twilight said as she sat next to Rainbow.

"So, you up for some R&R?"

"Some what?"

"Rest and relaxation, like, uh..." Rainbow quickly thought about what to say, "Sleeping, eating, going to a restaurant with me..."

"What was that last one?" Twilight asked, not sure if she heard Rainbow right.

"Eating?"

"No the one after that"

"Going to a restaurant with me?" Rainbow said while blushing slightly.

"Uh..." Twilight mumbled, scrunching up her face in a vain attempt to figure if Rainbow was joking or not. Just before she could ask there was a knock at the door, which ended up breaking the awkward silence that had started to form.

"I got it!" Rainbow shouted as she bolted to the door. She opened it, expecting a random pony to be standing on the other side, but much to her annoyance, it was Spike.

"Hey Rainbow, what are you doing here?" Spike said, rather preoccupied with his handful of gems.

"I was helping Twilight with her chores while you were out wooing Rarity"

"I wasn't wooing her!" Spike quickly hid the gems he had in his hands, "I was helping her look for gems!"

"Sure you were..."

"Is Twilight here?" Spike asked, rather annoyed with how Rainbow was acting.

"Yeah, she's in the kitchen I think" Rainbow said while waving a hoof towards the kitchen door.

"Okay thanks, oh wait a second..." Spike said as she stopped suddenly, spinning around to face Rainbow with a devilish grin on his face.

"What?" Rainbow asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Rarity mentioned something going on with you and Twilight..."

"Did she..." Rainbow whimpered, afraid of what Spike would do, and if Rarity had told more ponies.

"It looks like I wasn't the only one wooing somepony" Spike said as he narrowed his eyes at Rainbow.

"You can't tell anypony!" Rainbow begged, afraid of what would happen to her reputation if everypony knew she was interested in a mare.

"What's stopping me?" Spike asked, attempting to blackmail Rainbow.

"I'll tell everypony that you love Rarity!" Rainbow said, her confidence returning slightly.

"You wouldn't dare!" Spike said defensively.

"I would dare!" Rainbow said as she went face to face with Spike. The two of them stood there staring at each other for a good ten minutes before Twilight came out of the kitchen with sandwiches and iced tea. Twilight quickly sat them down on the table and walked over to the two of them, giving both of them confused looks.

"What are you two doing?"

"AH!" the two yelled in surprise. Spike jumped back, landing on his gems, which made he yell out in pain, and Rainbow flew straight up, whacking her head on the ceiling, nearly knocking her out. Twilight jumped back at their shout, and couldn't help but laugh as the two of them got back up, with Spike pulling a ruby out of his backside, and Rainbow wincing as she rubbed the top of her head.

"What was that for?!" Rainbow asked, still in a lot of pain.

"Yeah!" Spike added, staring at a gem that had been broken in two.

"I was just asking what you two were doing" Twilight said, barely managing to hold in her giggles.

"Oh, uh..." Spike and Rainbow both said, giving each other worried looks.

"So, what were you guys doing?"

"Nothing" Rainbow said quickly, her face scrunching up slightly as she tried to make it believable.

"Yeah, we were doing nothing, nothing at all!" Spike added, his eyes shooting back and forth. Twilight looked at the two of them and started laughing, unable to hold it in anymore.

"It's not funny!" Spike and Rainbow shouted in unison.

"Whatever, I'm going over to Rarity's" Spike said as he picked up what gems he had left.

"Okay, have fun" Twilight said, somewhat happy that her alone time with Rainbow would continue. After Spike shut the door she ran over to Rainbow, afraid that Rainbow might have gotten a concussion. Her horn began to glow as she checked for any serious damage, but when nothing showed up, she smiled happily.

"You okay Twi?" Rainbow asked, somewhat confused as to why she was smiling.

"Oh, yeah, I'm fine" Twilight said, snapping out her slight stupor, "Want some lunch?"

"Yeah, I'm starving!" Rainbow said as she shot over to the table, eager to begin eating.

__________________________________________________________

"Those were some good sandwiches..." Rainbow said lazily, rubbing her belly slightly.

"Yeah, you sure did eat a lot of them" Twilight said with a slight giggle.

"So, about that R&R..." Rainbow said as she raised an eyebrow at Twilight.

"Which part, the sleeping, the eating, or the restaurant?"

"Well, we just ate, and it's too early to sleep, so I'm gonna have to say the restaurant"

"Hmmm..." Twilight said as she tapped her chin, "I don't know..."

"C'mon Twi, it'll be fun, I promise!" Rainbow said worriedly, "We can even go to Canterlot if you want!"

"Would this just be a girl's night out, or...?" Twilight asked in a somewhat seductive tone.

"It's whatever you want it to be!" Rainbow said, excited by how Twilight had asked.

"Well, then I guess it's a date!" Twilight said, smiling at Rainbow.

"YES!" Rainbow shouted, flying into the air, and then becoming embarrassed, "I mean, cool, this'll be fun!"

"Well, Rainbow, where are we going to go?" Twilight asked, putting Rainbow on the spot.

"Uh..." Rainbow muttered, not sure of what to say, "Doughnut Joe's?"

"Sure, I've never been there before" Twilight said, actually happy that Rainbow had suggested Joe's, "Now I need to get ready"

"Oh, uh, sure!" Rainbow said, somewhat flustered, "I'll wait for you down here"

"Actually, I think you should meet me at the restaurant" Twilight said in a monotone voice.

"Why?" Rainbow asked, not sure what Twilight is planning.

"It's a surprise," Twilight said as she began to head up to her room, "See you at eight?"

"Yeah!" Rainbow said as she went towards the door, "I'll be there, I promise!" Rainbow quickly shut the door and flew towards her place, eager to get ready for her first date. Meanwhile Twilight had quickly run back to the main floor to get Rainbow's feather.

"She'll be surprised all right..." Twilight said deviously, as she grinned at the feather floating in front of her face.

__________________________________________________________

Rainbow was impatiently waiting at her table. Luckily Joe had remembered her from the incident on the train, so he gave her a private table in the corner of the restaurant. She was tapping her hoof on the table, silently wishing that Twilight would show up already. Rainbow was about to get up and look for Twilight when she heard somepony coming towards her. She quickly looked up, expecting to see Twilight, but instead saw Soarin, from the Wonderbolts, coming towards her.

"Hey, it's Rainbow Dash right?" he asked when he saw her look up.

"Uh, yeah" Rainbow replied, confused and slightly worried.

"You here on a date?" he asked, obviously noticing how her hair was slightly done up.

"Uh, yeah..."

"Who's the luckily stallion?" Soarin asked jokingly.

"Uh..." Rainbow swallowed hard, not sure what to say.

"Lucky mare?" Soarin asked, noticing her hesitation. Rather than reply, Rainbow just dropped her head in shame. There's no way they'd accept me now!, Rainbow shouted in her head, They'd never accept a fillyfooler!. When Rainbow heard Soarin laugh her head quickly shot up. Soarin quickly stopped laughing, and said, "Don't worry, I don't think anypony is going to care which way you go"

"Huh?" Rainbow asked stupidly, not sure what just happened.

"Can I trust you to keep a secret?" Soarin asked, leaning forward towards Rainbow. She quickly nodded her head, eager to find out what Soarin was going to say. "The truth is, Surprise, you know her right," he paused to see if Rainbow had nodded, which she did, "Well, she goes both ways"

"What?!" Rainbow half shouted.

"Yeah," Soarin rubbed the back of his head, "There have been some pretty crazy after parties thanks to that, but, uh..."

"I can't tell anyone, I know" Rainbow said, "But just one question"

"Uh, sure, ask away" Soarin said.

"Do all the Wonderbolts get involved?" Rainbow asked deviously.

"Uh, yeah, there was this one time when Spitfire..." Soarin quickly caught himself, "No wait, I can't tell you, or else they're gonna kill me"

"Okay, well, see you later" Rainbow said as she sat back in her seat.

"Yeah, have a good night" Soarin said as he made his way towards a table stacked with pies of every shape and size. Rainbow quietly laughed to herself, now realizing how late it was. 9:30..., Rainbow started to worry, What's taking her so long....

"Hey Rainbow" Twilight said, seemingly coming out of thin air

"Oh, uh, hey Twili..." Rainbow trailed off, noticing the feather in Twilight's mane, "Is that mine?"

"Yeah, do you like it," Twilight said as she brushed it with her hoof, "I read somewhere that this something Pegasus couples usually do, so I thought, you know..."

"Twilight" Rainbow said in a monotone voice.

"Yeah Rainbow?" Twilight asked, afraid that she might have ruined the night by wearing the feather.

"I love you" Rainbow said as she pulled Twilight into a hug.

"Thanks Rainbow" Twilight said happily as she nuzzled into Rainbow's neck. They sat there for a few minutes, Rainbow opening her eyes for a second, seeing Soarin smiling at her. She quickly turned bright red and released Twilight.

"So, ready for dinner?" Rainbow asked as they both sat down.

__________________________________________________________

The two of them ended up spending the entire night at Doughnut Joe's, talking about random things, ranging from the Wonderbolts to Twilight's studies. They even talked about some embarrassing moments they've had, and that they've seen. It was closing time before they left, which took quite a lot of pushing from Joe, as the two were more focused on each other than anything else. After being kicked out of Joe's they headed back to Ponyville, arriving in the early hours of the morning. Nopony but them, Soarin, and Joe, had any idea what happened that night, and that's just the way they wanted it.

They parted ways at the library, giving each other a loving hug before saying good night. Twilight went to her room and put the feather on her nightstand, quickly falling asleep, happy that she could now express her feelings for Rainbow. Meanwhile Rainbow flew across Ponyville, doing rolls and turns, her excitement causing her to nearly perform a sonic rainboom as she passed over town hall. When she got home she quickly ran up to her room and jumped on the bed, and almost instantly fell asleep. The two of them were happier than they'd ever been before, but how were they going to tell everypony about it?

Chapter 4: Is This Really Love?

Chapter 4: Is This Really Love?

Twilight woke up before the crack of dawn the next morning, hoping to get her chores done before Rainbow woke up so that they could spend the whole day together. Little did she know Rainbow had also woken up, and was already on her way to the library, just a eager to spend her entire day with Twilight.

"Hey Twilight!" Rainbow shouted as she came flying in through an open window, landing expertly on the table.

"AH!" Twilight screamed, caught off guard by Rainbow's entrance, "Oh, hey Rainbow"

"What are you doing?" Rainbow asked, seeing an entire section of shelves empty.

"I'm checking for damaged books," Twilight said as she magically flipped through a book, "Sometimes Spike gets food in them, or a pony returns them with a page missing"

"Really? I thought everypony respected the books" Rainbow said as she picked up a book called Everything You Need To Know About Love, "Did you read this one?"

"Huh?" Twilight said as she turned to face Rainbow, "No, but Spike has"

"How can you tell?" Rainbow asked as she looked at the book inquisitively. Twilight quickly lifted the book in the air and began to flip through the pages, looking for something inside. When she finally stopped Rainbow started laughing uncontrollably. A sketch of Rarity was in the middle of the page, with the words Mrs. Spike written all around it.

"This is how" Twilight said with a grin.

"Wow, I never knew Spike was that love crazy!" Rainbow said between laughing fits.

"Yeah," Twilight said as she fixed the book, "Hey, maybe we should read this"

"Why?" Rainbow asked, her laughing suddenly stopping.

"Well, we would know if we're going to fast, or if we're doing something we're not supposed to do"

"I don't think there are any rules when it comes to love Twilight"

"Yeah, but it couldn't hurt, right?" Twilight said.

"Oh, fine, we'll read it" Rainbow said as she sat next to Twilight.

"Okay, it says first to find out if you really are in love" Twilight said as she began to read the book.

"And how would we know that?" Rainbow said sarcastically.

"Number 1: Are you physically attracted to the other pony?" Twilight said, quickly looking at Rainbow, "Yes"

"I think I'll have to say yes too"

"Number 2: Are you mentally attracted to them, and if so, why?" Twilight said, scrunching up her face in thought.

"So, does it mean why we love each other?" Rainbow asked in confusion.

"I think"

"Well, I love you because, um..."

Awkward silence...

"You showed me the Daring Do books!" Rainbow said happily, "And, um..."

"That it?"

"I don't know" Rainbow said, her face scrunched up in frustration.

"Okay, well, I love you because..."

Awkward silence...

"You're really good at flying!" Twilight said, "And I really like your mane..."

"We messed up, didn't we?" Rainbow said quietly while dropping her head.

"Maybe..." Twilight said, also dropping her head.

"Um, I think I'm gonna go..." Rainbow said as she slowly picked herself up of the ground.

"Oh, uh, okay, see you later I guess..." Twilight said, suddenly having chest pains. As Rainbow flew out the window, Twilight felt as if some part of her was leaving too, but she couldn't figure out why. After a few minutes she went back to cleaning the books, but this time, when she thought about Rainbow, all she wanted to do was cry.

__________________________________________________________

As Rainbow left the library she could feel her heart breaking, it was as if the Wonderbolts had turned her down. She couldn't figure out why. Did me and Twi just break up? Is that why I feel so bad right now? Rainbow thought to herself as she flew around randomly. Before she knew it she was heading towards Fluttershy's cottage, and as she got closer she began to tear up, her broken heart starting to come to the surface.

"Fluttershy, I need your help!" Rainbow shouted as she came in the door, only to look up and see one very worried Fluttershy, and one very confused Applejack.

"Oh, Rainbow Dash, what's wrong!" Fluttershy said as she noticed Rainbow's teary eyes.

"Yeah Rainbow, what's wrong?" Applejack asked, only somewhat worried.

"I think I just got dumped!" Rainbow said, her emotions finally getting the best of her.

"What?!" Fluttershy and Applejack both shouted, both caught off guard by Rainbow's statement. The two of them quickly looked at each other, both confused and afraid. Fluttershy was worried for her friend's emotions, whereas Applejack was worried that this could be another one of Rainbow's pranks. When Rainbow didn't start laughing Applejack began to actually worry about what was causing Rainbow to act this way.

"What's goin' on sugar cube?" Applejack said as she leaned down towards Rainbow.

"I don't think she's going to respond Applejack" Fluttershy said as she started to pull Rainbow towards her couch, "We need to give her time to calm down"

"Well, okay then..." Applejack said she sat next to Rainbow.

"Are you ready to talk now sugar cube?" Applejack asked when Rainbow started to stop crying.

"I, I think" Rainbow said quietly.

"So what's goin' on?"

"Well, me and Twilight went on a date last night"

"Really?" Applejack asked, surprised that her two friends would go on a date.

"Yeah, and I had said that I loved her, and I think she felt the same, but this morning..." Rainbow said, fighting back tears.

"What happened?" Fluttershy asked.

"Well, there was a book, and we started to read it..." Rainbow said, her eyes tearing up.

"What was the book on?" Applejack asked while she rubbed Rainbow's back in an attempt to comfort her.

"Love"

"So what happened?" Fluttershy asked.

"We couldn't say why we loved each other" Rainbow said as she put her hooves to her face. Applejack and Fluttershy quickly looked at each other, not sure of what to do now.

"Well, Rainbow, maybe the book was wrong" Applejack said quietly.

"Yeah" Fluttershy said.

"Yeah but, still, we couldn't think about why we're in love" Rainbow said, slightly crying.

"Rainbow," Applejack said as she turned Rainbow to face her, "Sometimes you just never know why you're in love, but you just are, so don't worry about it"

"Yeah, but"

"No buts, do you love her?"

"Yeah"

"Then you love her"

"But"

"No, buts, just go to her, and fix this" Applejack said as she motioned towards the door.

"But what if she doesn't want to?"

"Then you have to make her love you" Applejack said, "This isn't the Rainbow Dash I know! She wouldn't be afraid of something like this!"

"Yeah Rainbow, you're not this afraid of anything else" Fluttershy said, trying to cheer on Rainbow.

"Yeah, I guess I am" Rainbow said, her confidence starting to return.

"Yeah!" Applejack said as Rainbow started to get up.

"Yeah!" Rainbow said as she shot towards the door, "Well, I'm off, thanks for the help!"

"No problem sugar cube!" Applejack shouted as Rainbow flew away.

"So..." Applejack said as she turned to Fluttershy, "How long have you known about that?"

"A few days..." Fluttershy squeaked.

"Huh" Applejack muttered, "I wonder why she didn't tell me about this..."

Chapter 5: The Night of Shining Armor

Chapter 5: The Night of Shining Armor

Shining Armor had just gotten off the Friendship Express when he saw a rainbow trail leaving the library. He knew that meant Rainbow had been seeing his sister, but he didn't have a clue as to why she would fly off that fast. Knowing that it would be pointless to try and figure it out now, he instead headed for the Ponyville hotel, where he was going to stay for the week he was in town.

The room wasn't anything special, as some ponies would have guessed. He was offered the Celestial room, but he turned it down and instead got a normal room. Second floor, room 18, to be exact. The closet provided barely fit his small assortment of clothes in it, and the bathroom was extremely cramped, even if he was the size of a colt. By the time he finally got settled in it was late afternoon, and his stomach was growling loud enough to wake Luna, so he started to make his way towards Sugar Cube Corner. Although, he never did make it there, as he saw, and heard Rainbow Dash pull off a sonic rainboom above the outskirts of town, and she was headed towards the library.

"Twilight, please open up" Rainbow pleaded from outside the library, every door and window locked tight. After a few more attempts to find a way in Rainbow fell to the ground outside the library door, head in her hooves.

"Something going on between you two?" said a voice that caused Rainbow to jump.

"Shining Armor!" Rainbow quickly got close to his face, "What're you doing here?"

"I got out on leave, they said I was working too hard" Shining joked, "But what's going on here? Lover's quarrel?"

"Uh, something like that," Rainbow said as she rubbed the back of her neck, "Look, I need your help!"

"With what?"

"Twilight won't come out, or let me in, so we can talk"

"So?" Shining asked while giving Rainbow a confused look.

"You can get her to talk to me!" Rainbow said, annoyed at how dense Shining had been.

"Nope"

"What?!"

"I'm not going to fix this for you" Shining said as he started back on his way to Sugar Cube Corner, "You two need to work this out yourselves" Shining suddenly felt a weird weightlessness to his body, and quickly realized that he was now far above Ponyville, with Rainbow being the only thing keeping him from falling.

"You going to help now?" Rainbow asked threateningly.

"Nope" Shining responded, crossing his forelegs in front of him.

"Urgh, why won't you help me?!" Rainbow shouted, now finding it hard to carry Shining Armor.

"Because, if I help you the problem won't go away, it'll just disappear for a while" Shining said as he prepared a shield spell.

"Fine!" Rainbow said as she suddenly stopped flying, jerking Shining Armor out of her hooves, "Oh shit!" Rainbow quickly shot down to try and catch Shining Amor, but when she saw his calm face she stopped, confused. When he started to glow she realized that he had put a safety spell on himself, so she calmly flew down the ground. A few seconds later Shining came down, his spell creating a gust of wind to slow him down just before he hit the ground.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I'd like to get something to eat" Shining said, turning around to face Sugar Cube Corner, which they had landed in front of.

"Wait!" Rainbow shouted as she jumped in front of him, "Can you give me any advice on what to do?"

"Just be honest about it, she'll understand"

"Thanks!" Rainbow yelled as she took to the skies again. Shining Armor watched her until she flew over the horizon, and turned around to see a royal guard staring at him.

"Captain" the guard said.

"Sergeant, what are you doing here?" Shining asked, somewhat worried.

"Princess Cadance told us to look for you sir" the guard answered, "She said you had suddenly disappeared"

"Oh, she's just mad that I got to go on leave for a while and wanted to know where I went" Shining said as she patted the guard on the back.

"What do we tell her sir?" the guard asked.

"Hmmm..." Shining said as he tapped his chin, noticing a small souvenir stand, "Wait one second" Shining quickly ran over to the stand and look for a letter with a picture of Ponyville on it. He paid the stallion behind the stall 5 bits, and quickly wrote down on the card;

Dear Cadance:

I'm loving it down here in Ponyville, it's all so peaceful. Wish you were here!

Love,

Shining Armor

"There this should do it" Shining said as he handed the guard the letter.

"Is this all we're supposed to show her sir?" the guard asked as he examined the letter.

"Yes, now if you'll excuse me..." Shining said, as he once again turned to face Sugar Cube Corner.

"SHINING ARMOR!"

"Oh for the love of..." Shining said as he turned around, only to see Rainbow Dash flying towards him, "What happened?"

"She kicked me out and said she never wanted to see me again!" Rainbow shouted as she skidded to a stop in front of Shining Armor.

"What?!" Shining said, caught off guard by what Rainbow said.

"I got her to let me in so we could talk, and..." Rainbow started, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Calm down, it's okay, I'll go talk to her now" Shining said as he patted Rainbow on the back, now very angry with his sister.

KNOCK, KNOCK

"Who is it?!" Twilight yelled from somewhere inside the library.

"Your brother" Shining said as he looked towards one of the library's windows. It looked as though someone had smashed it, and recently too, since there was still some glass on the ground outside. Just as Shining started to think about what caused the window to break the door opened, a very disheveled looking Twilight on the other side.

"What are you doing here?" Twilight asked, somewhat surprised to see her brother outside her door.

"I need to talk to you about Rainbow Dash"

"Oh, what, did she tell you about what happened?" Twilight asked, sounding very annoyed.

"Yes, and I think you are making a big mistake"

"What?!" Twilight shouted, turning on the spot to face her brother.

"She loves you Twilight, she doesn't know why, but she does, why can't you accept that?"

"Because the book says-" Twilight started, but was cut off by Shining's hoof.

"Seriously, a book caused this?!" Shining shouted.

"Yes..." Twilight admitted

"Twily, you need to go find Rainbow, and apologize to her, right now" Shining ordered.

"Why? We don't have any reason to love each other, so why should we?"

"Because you don't need a reason! If you love her, you love her, simple as that!"

"But the book said..."

"It's just a book Twily, you can't trust everything you see in a book!"

"But..."

"No buts! I heard about you and Rainbow's date, you want to know who told her to ask you again? Me!"

"What?"

"Rainbow came to me after you turned her down the first time she asked, she was crushed, so I told her to wait until you weren't busy to ask you again"

"Why?"

"Because I know you love her!"

"But I don't know why I should!"

"You just do okay! Love can't be understood, it just happens, why do you think I married Cadance?!"

"Because you love her for her actions!"

"No, I love her, but I don't know why, I just do! Same goes for her!"

"But..."

"I said no buts!" Shining jumped behind Twilight, and started pushing her towards the open door, "Now go! Go and fix this whole thing right now!"

"But"

"GO!" Shining yelled as he slammed the door on Twilight's face. He was fuming, and starving. A growl from his stomach made him forget everything he just said and he quickly made his way to Twilight's kitchen, eager to find some form of sustenance. After he finished a rose and lily sandwich he made his way towards an open book that was sitting on the table. He read it, and immediately picked the book up and used his magic to burn it. "Now Twilight can forget about this stupid book's idea" Shining said after the book stopped burning. Shining then heard a knock at the door and made his way to it, only to see Cadance standing on the other side.

"I had a feeling I would find you here" Cadance said, a hint of annoyance in her voice.

"Yeah..." Shining said sheepishly, "You're mad at me for not telling you, aren't you?"

"Mad is an understatement" Cadance said as she used her magic to teleport both her and Shining Armor back to their house in Canterlot.

Chapter 6: The Plan

Chapter 6: The Plan

Twilight was running across Ponyville when she heard Shining Armor cry out in terror from somewhere behind her. She turned around in time to see her brother being carried away by his subordinates, Princess Cadance in tow. Looks like he's in trouble Twilight thought, a small giggle escaping her. After she lost sight of her brother she quickly turned back around and continued running, heading towards Rainbow Dash's cloud house. She quickly reached the ground beneath the house, but with plan to get up she opted to throw rocks at the windows in an attempt to get Rainbow's attention.

__________________________________________________________

Rainbow was lying on her bed, face in her damp pillow. She couldn't get over what happened. She had finally showed Twilight how she felt, and things were going well, and then, suddenly, it was over. Knowing that Twilight could be very stubborn when it came to books Rainbow was under the impression that they would never get back together, and just the thought of that made Rainbow want to fly away from Ponyville, never to be seen again. There was just no way she could watch Twilight date somepony else, it would just be...

WHACK!

"What the hay?!" Rainbow shouted as she got to her feet after being knocked off her bed. To her surprise she saw a fairly small rock sitting on her bed where her head used to be. She was getting ready to go flying out her window to beat up whoever threw the rock when she noticed another float up, surrounded by purple magic. "Twilight!"

"Oh, Rainbow, thank goodness you came out, I was running out of rocks" Twilight said as she dropped the rock she was levitating.

"Ran out of rocks?" Rainbow asked as she looked around, noticing dozens of rocks littering the ground beneath her house, "Oh..."

"Yeah, apparently I'm not very good at throwing rocks..." Twilight said sheepishly, "But that's not why I'm here!"

"Okay, so if you weren't her to stone me, then what are you doing throwing rocks at my house?" Rainbow asked angrily.

"I wanted to talk to you" Twilight said bluntly.

"So? Couldn't it have waited?"

"No" Twilight said, a look of determination on her face.

"Okay, so what is it?" Rainbow asked, getting impatient.

"I wanted us to get back together"

"What?" Rainbow asked in confusion.

"I want to date you again" Twilight said while blushing furiously.

"Why?"

"Because I was stupid to take the book seriously"

"So?"

"I know that I want to be with you, even though I don't know why"

"Okay"

"What?" It was Twilight's turn to be confused.

"I said okay"

"To what?"

"Us getting back together"

"Really?"

"Yes"

"YES!" Twilight shouted, her confusion replaced by pure joy, as she was now back with her marefriend.

"Okay, okay, calm down" Rainbow said as she covered Twilight's mouth, "You don't want to wake the whole town do you?"

"Actually I do" Twilight said happily.

"Why?" Rainbow asked while giving Twilight a weird look.

"I don't know, but I just want everypony to know that we're together!"

"Maybe we should just tell our friends first"

"Oh, yeah, I guess we should do that"

"So, uh, what are we going to do this time?" Rainbow asked as she got closer to Twilight.

"What?" Twilight asked as Rainbow put her wing across her.

"Well, last time we went fairly fast, and look what happened"

"Good point..." Twilight said as she rubbed her chin, "Maybe we should wait a little while before we go on a date"

"Yeah, and maybe we shouldn't get all lovey-dovey every time we see each other"

"I'll agree to that" Twilight said as she nuzzled Rainbow's neck.

"I thought we were going to go slow" Rainbow said with a grin as she looked at Twilight.

"I think it's okay for us to do this" Twilight said as she continued to nuzzle Rainbow's neck.

"Oh, okay then" Rainbow said as she began to nuzzle Twilight's neck. The two of them stayed there for a good thirty minutes, until Twilight pulled away and waved goodbye. Rainbow quickly shot over and gave her a quick hug and then went back to her room. She turned her pillow over so she wouldn't have to be reminded of how she had cried.

__________________________________________________________

"So, Twilight, you and Rainbow are officially together now?" Applejack asked as Pinkie sat down. Earlier in the day Twilight had Spike run around and gather up their friends, telling all of them to meet up at Sugar Cube Corner. With Rarity being the last one to still show up the five that were there had already ordered their lunches.

"Yes, we are now official marefriend, coltfriend" Twilight said as she took a bite out of her daisy sandwich.

"So, if you don't mind me asking," Applejack asked after finishing her mouthful of salad, "Who's who?"

"Uh..." Rainbow quickly shot Twilight a confused look.

"We haven't decided that yet" Twilight said calmly.

"I think Rainbow should be the coltfriend!" Pinkie shouted in her usual happy way.

"What's that supposed to mean?!" Rainbow asked angrily.

"Calm down Rainbow, she didn't mean anything by it" Applejack said as she held Rainbow back.

"Maybe she just meant it because you have a more, um, coltish attitude" Fluttershy said quietly.

"Really, am I that manly?" Rainbow asked as she floated back into her seat.

"Not really, but you are more, uh, coltish, than Twilight is" Applejack said.

"Well, I guess your right..." Rainbow said, defeated.

"It's okay Rainbow dear, I think you'd look good in a suit" Rarity said as she got close to the table the girls were sitting at.

"Nice of you to show up" Rainbow said sarcastically.

"Oh, don't be so rude, I was saying the truth" Rarity said.

"So, what are you two going to do?" Applejack asked.

"Well, we're going to go slow, and then we'll see how it's going after a while" Twilight said.

"And if things are going well?" Fluttershy asked.

"We don't know yet, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it" Rainbow said.

"Well, I think I speak for everyone when I say we wish you the best of luck" Rarity said as she raised her glass of apple juice. Everyone else nodded in agreement and they each raised their glasses to the new couple. Meanwhile Twilight and Rainbow looked at each other and leaned forwards into a kiss. One that was met by cheers from their four friends, each of them happy to see their friends finding love in each other.
