Harmony's Defeat
Chapter 22: Chapter Twenty One - Alone
Previous Chapter Next ChapterI awoke next to Violet. It was day light. It was still raining a little bit too. I got up and looked around. There was no one around. I got up gingerly and grabbed my weapon. I looked back at Violet’s body and shed another tear before walking away. I started to make my way back to the UN outpost to find out what happened. Walking through the woods, I started talking into my ear piece, Hoping to get a response.
“This is Cobra 1-1, anybody reading me. Respond. Anybody on this frequency in range?”
I tried many frequencies while I walked back to the UN outpost. I had no luck reaching anyone. I also found the outpost completely empty. The transports had also gone. It was clear that Liam and the others were alive or the enemy came and stole the ships. I assumed the first, for my sake.
Without my team, the ponies or transportation my situation looked pretty bad. My new found resistance was crushed within a day and all hope was lost. After finding nothing at the UN base I decided to explore the near by town. With only my P90 and a few grenades I knew that engaging the enemy would be a bad idea. I had no one to watch my back and no one to pull my ass out the fire. I was all alone.
I made it to the town. Completely empty. No enemies or friendlies. I walked around looking for something useful but I had no idea what to look for. For the first time I had no plan, no idea. I was lost. I walked the streets aimlessly, looking for something to save my soul. I walked past a public pond. I stopped right by the edge and looked into the water.
“You’ve lost everything. Your family, your friends and the love of your life. You failed to protect them. And now you’ve lost and Discord has won. He’ll destroy earth and then Equestria”
I then slammed my fist into the water, distorting my reflection. “You’re a failure! Worthless loser!”
I then began to think about Violet. My eyes began to water again.
“No! I promised Violet I wouldn’t give up!”
I got up and started to think hard. After some thought I decided to return to England. Get to the base and sort myself out. Re-supply on weapons and ammo. Maybe even get some help from the base members. Perhaps even find Liam and the others there. First I would need to acquire air-transportation. How hard could it be to find a chopper... in the middle of no-where. The odds were not looking great but damn it I wasn’t going to give up now.
I had left the town and walked for hours. I tried to find a bigger city where I would be more likely to find transport. A news chopper or maybe an enemy transport. Anything would be good enough as long as it could fly. Eventually I arrived at Grove City, another city that was filled with smoke and fire. It seemed the UN had already lost this city. There was no life to be found. I couldn’t hear any gun fire or see any signs of active battle. It was dark again and the storm started up again. I stumbled into the city and prowled the streets. I looked for food and water. I was exhausted by now. That long walked was tiring and I needed to rest and refuel. The city was once a tall built up city. The remains of the sky scrapers proved that. Now it lies in ruin. Just like every other city. It was probably the same story in every country: Cities destroy, lands scorched and the inhabitants slaughtered. I couldn’t believe this. A character for a girls T.V show brought the end of the human race. I chuckled to myself at that thought. I found a cafe that still had food and water. Seeing as it was a cafe I thought I would have a coffee and some cake. Sit back and relax in a chair for a bit. I wanted to take a well earned break.
After about five minutes of relaxing I heard loud robotic footsteps from down the street and the yells of soldiers. I crouched down and looked outside. One of those robots and some Pony soldiers were patrolling the street. This robot was different. It didn’t have a chain gun for an arm. It just had two claws. One claw had a search light in the ‘palm’ or what ever the dragon equivalent is. The soldiers all had flash lights on their guns too. I was behind a table, my head poking out, as I watched the patrol pass. One of the soldiers then pointed his flash light through the window and look in through with a suspicious expression. I quickly got down to hide. I just hoped he didn’t see me.
“Hay! I think I found something!” He sounded young and in-experienced.
“What is it?” asked a more masculine and experienced pony.
“I dunno. I thought I saw something in there”
I swallowed hard. I checked my ammo, ready to fire at them. I only had one clip. I was beginning to sweat and I was getting nervous. I heard the door open, followed by hoof steps walking on the wooden floor, the flash light beams moving around in searching. The hoof steps getting closer now. I lifted my weapon and put my hand on the table leg, readying to shoot. My heart was racing. I could feel it pounding against my barely healed ribs.
“There’s nothing here” said the experienced pony. “C’mon. Lets get moving. I wanna get back to base. I heard a stripper was coming into the barracks to boost our morale. I don’t want to be late for that”
I heard the ponies start to walk out the cafe and I eased up. This was a mistake because I broke the table leg as I moved my hand. It made a loud snapping noise and I heard the hoof steps suddenly stop. I was paralysed by the silence. I was frozen as I waited to see what happened next. I heard a loud “Hmm....” come from one of the ponies. My heart was racing even faster now. If it was hit by a speed gun it would definitely be breaking the law. I heard
the pony approach the table I was hiding behind.
“Hay! I found something!” shouted a voice from the street. There was a short silence followed by hoof steps leaving the cafe. I sighed with relief and proceeded to sneak out the back of the cafe.
I was now in a back ally. It was damp and dirty, trash bags everywhere and rats helping themselves to scraps of food and waste. I slowly walked round to find my way back onto the streets. I had just confirmed the presence of enemies in the city so I now knew I had to be more careful. I found my way out of the alleys and back onto the streets. I was now on a main street. A massive, long, four lane road running into the city centre. I looked up and saw that not far to the right was a news building, with a news chopper still on the landing pad. The landing pad however was sticking out of the side of the building.... forty stories up. Wonderful. Well it was my best chance of getting to England and hopefully I should be able to sneak up to it.
“Luna and Celestia guide me to that chopper. Please. I’ve had enough fucking bad luck this week”
At this point I realised I was treating Luna and Celestia as like my gods. Which was strange because I always said things like this but I didn’t normally mean it in such a way. Normally Luna and Celestia were just my replacements for “Thank god” or “What in gods name are you doing” since I was an atheist but also loved the show so much. But this time I wasn’t just trying to enforce my Bronyism. I was actually asking them for help. Clearly finding out they were real has lead me to worship them as my gods. I just shook my head to dis-miss the thoughts. I had bigger things to do than to contemplate my religious rotations.
I made it to the news building. The lobby was clear but there were no lights. In fact there were no lights in the city. Only the burning fires and the occasional car head light kept the city lit up. I turned on my built-in flash light that was on my P90.
“I’m so glad the P90 comes standard issue with a flash light”
I used my flash light to look around the room. It was definitely clear. I cautiously moved through the lobby, passing the burnt skeletons of innocent civilians. Their skulls looked like the people died screaming, in pain, their jaws open wide. It wasn’t a pretty sight. I then passed the skeletons of a woman and a baby. The woman's arm was wrapped round the baby as if she tried to protect it from the blast.
“What weapons were they using against these people? They were just civilians yet they burnt them? Sick fucks”
I made it to the end of the room and started walking through a corridor. I wanted to find a stair well to the upper floors so I could get the helicopter. I walked through the corridors cautiously, checking every door way I passed. I could hear the blasts of thunder outside and I could see the flashes of lighting coming through the windows.
“Watch it grunt!”
I quickly ducked down behind a knock over filing cabinet as a dragon warrior and a pony soldier walked out of a room ahead of me.
“Don’t talk to me like that, hoofy” said the dragon warrior in his demonic voice.
They were now standing in the corridor not far ahead of me. I had turned off my flash light now to avoid being seen.
“Watch your mouth lackey”
“I’m not your lackey. I’m far superior to you, you pathetic excuse for a creature”
The pony soldier stood up on his back hooves. “If it wasn’t for us ponies, your kind wouldn’t even exist. Now do your job and follow MY orders” said the pony, aggressively poking the dragon warrior in the chest with his front hoof.
The dragon warrior grabbed the ponies hoof and moved his head close to the ponies head, “I don’t care who you are, but you do not push Dracos around. I’ll tear you apart mortal!”
“I don’t think Trixie would be happy about that. And you DO NOT want to get on her bad side”
“I’m not afraid of Trixie”
“You remember what she did to your friend right?” said the pony with a sly look.
The dragon warrior let go of the pony’s hoof and grunted before walking down the corridor.
“That's what I thought” said the pony as he followed the dragon warrior.
When they left I got up and turned my light back on. I continued to search for a stair well to the upper floors. I continued to walk the corridors in search for a way up.
“How the fuck do I get up to the upper floors?”
I eventually found a fire exit. It was a stair case that went all the way up the building. Now I just had to figure out which floor actually had the helipad on it.
“Why couldn’t they just have the pad on the roof?” I asked myself in grief.
I climbed about twenty levels of stairs and the storm still raging on outside. I estimated the pad would be about forty floors up so I figured I’d go up Forty floors then find the pad from there. After another five floors I stopped to rest. Twenty five floors and I was already tired. A put my hands on my knees and tried to get my breath back. I then started hearing voices coming from the stairs above, the clopping was coming down towards me. Two pony soldiers were coming down the stairs. They sounded quite casual and having a bit of a laugh.
“...so then what did you tell her?”
“...alright alright. I told her that I needed to check something in the back room...”
“...and then what did you do?”
“...so I went to the back room, making sure to lure her in with me and I took the pie...”
The voices started to fade as they walked down a few floors. I looked out the fire door I had taken cover behind, looking as the shadows of the ponies continued to descend the stair well. I waited for the shadows to disappear before I continued to climb the stairs to the fortieth floor.
I spent about three minutes sneaking around the floor and I found a window to look out of for the helipad. I found that it was two floors down.
“I just need to get down there. Shouldn’t be to ha-”
“Courage Tylor!” screamed a voice behind me before I was tackled through the window and down onto the helipad. I got up to see what had tackled me, rubbing my neck as it hurt really bad now. I turned to find another one of those super soldiers.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me”
The super soldier lifted a large ballistic weapon. It looked like an over-sized, over the top SMG. It had a huge gaping barrel and the clip size was enormous. If that wasn’t a grenade launcher then I didn’t want to think what the bullets would do to me. The super soldier got up on his feet and aimed to shoot. I quickly jumped for my P90. There was absolutely no cover out here on the pad and I only had one clip of ammo. That didn’t really matter seeing as my bullets wouldn’t hurt him anyway.
“You will die by my hands, the hands of a true follower of Discord!” yelled the super soldier before he fired many rounds at me. The weapon was slow firing, only putting out about two rounds a second, but each bullet ripped a huge chunk out of the concrete pad. I dived out of the way of the first two shots and ducked down behind a wooden box marked as ‘fragile’. Two shots from the soldier’s weapon tore it to pieces and I soon had to run across the pad. I ran out of ideas but luckily the soldier had to reload his weapon.
“C’mon! I would have thought the great Courage would have put up more of a fight!”
He looked down at his weapon as he put in a new clip then looked back up at me. I grabbed a metal bar from the floor and ran up to him. He fired but I managed to dodge his shots. I swung my pole at him but it just bent on his armour. He then chuckled and swung his fist into me, knocking me back. I swung again but he grabbed the pole with little effort and smacked it back at into me. I was knocked to the floor, with a bleeding lip and nose. I then turned and sprayed my P90 into the visor of his helmet. He raised his hand to cover his head from the bullets and I jumped up with my knife drawn and swung at his armour, but making sparks was all I accomplished. He swung and I dodge him, strafing round behind him and stabbed him the back of the knee. He fell to his knees and swung his hand behind him. I ducked under that and quickly stabbed the back of his elbow before he withdrew his arm. He got up and stood back. I tried to knife again but he knocked it out of my hand and beat me down. He then kicked me in the chest, launching me over to the ground by the chopper.
He then approached me and knelt down by me, putting his hand around my throat. He drew a large blade from the back of his waist and began to speak.
“I will bring great honour to my church. Killing you will be our greatest victory yet”
“What church?!? Who are you people?!?” I asked, struggling to fight his grip of my throat with my own hands.
“We are Trixie's Tempest Warriors. We are the church of her human followers, sworn to Trixie and Discord. We will follow their lead as they lead us to our salvation. Discord is a true god and Trixie is his prophet”
“What the fuck! Discord is not a god and you are not their children. He just wants revenge on Celestia for putting him in stone for one thousand years. And Trixie, I don’t even know what she is doing this for”
“No. You are just blind to the truth. Discord is the true ruler of the universe, beaten and imprisoned by his children. He mealy wants to discipline them for their treachery”
“Your fucking crazy!” I grabbed my grenade belt, pulled a pin off one of the grenades and threw it behind the soldier. He turned around in shock and the grenades exploded. The explosion severed the path that held the pad to the side of the building. The pad jolted downward as it prepared to collapse and fall. The strenuous movement of the pad caused the soldier to stumble and fall on his stomach.I quickly got up and climbed on board the chopper. I sat down in the pilot seat and prepared to lift off. The pad then collapsed and the chopper began to drop to the ground. The rotors were just spinning up as the chopper came close to the ground.
“C’mon. C’mon!”
The helicopter nearly hit the ground but soon before I crashed the helicopter began to slow it’s decent and eventually I was flying away from the building.
“Thank Luna for that. Now to-”
“You think you can kill me that easy! I will not rest till your dead!”
“Oh what the fuck man!”
I looked back to find the soldier’s hand holding onto the side of the chopper.
“I will CRUSH YOU!” Yelled the soldier in rage.
“Crush this!” I retorted.
I then began to scrape the chopper against a building, My rotors began to scratch against the building’s side, as did the soldier. A warning light came on telling me the rotors were taking damage. A whole load of sparks came off the soldier’s armour as he rubbed violently against the building. I could hear him groaning loudly in pain. I passed the building but the soldier was still holding onto the side.
“Get off my CHOPPER!”
I slammed him against another building. The red light was flashing fanatically now. Grinding against another building now but he was determined to get me.
I finished scraping this building and I didn’t want to risk losing my rotors to a third passing.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding right?!?”
I looked back to see him grabbing the inside of the cabin with both hands. He was trying to pull himself up. I looked around the outside world in panic, trying to think of what to do. To my luck I saw an old construction site. It was only as far having the frame of the building. Plenties of pointy out bits to smack him with.
“Alright, lets see how you like this then tough guy” I mumbled to myself. I pushed the flight stick forward and flew towards the construction site. He had almost pulled himself inside the chopper. I drew my pistol and fired a few shots back at him. He dropped back out to cover his already damaged helmet but he was still hanging on. I was now flying by the construction site.
“Stop resisting! You cannot stop me! Even if you do more of us will come for you! Our church will not rest till your dead!”
“Then let them come!”
Smash! I swung my helicopter round to smack him into a large, steel support beam that was hanging from a crane. He lost his grip and fell to the ground. As he fell he launched a rocket from his wrist rocket launcher. I can’t believe I forgot about those things. The rocket exploded right by the chopper and I began to spiral out of control. Every light that could flash WAS flashing. Warning lights, danger signs, infernal beeping noises. I started to fight with the stick, trying to stop it from crashing.
“C’mon! I busted my balls to get my hands on you and your my only ride to England!”
It ignored me and continued to spin out of control.
“C’mon you bitch!!”
Suddenly it stabilised and started to fly normal. It was still a bit jolty and off with me but it was flyable now.
“Thank you! Now lets get back to England without any more problems Okay?”
I looked at the dash board as if I was waiting for a response. The light just flashed slowly back at me.
“Okay good... Now...” I started to shake my head around agreeingly in a slightly crazy manner. “I... I need to get back to England” I sat back and wiped my face with relief. “Fuck! That was.... too fucking close for me...”. I sat back and looked around in relief. I was feeling really stressed by this point. This whole alone thing was getting to me. I pulled myself together and started to make my way to England. The fuel tank was full so hopefully that wouldn’t be a problem. The only issue I had was flying in this storm. My chopper was fucked and I was about to fly past a hurricane. I just hoped for the best and continued on with my journey.
