Chapter 9: Chapter 8: Drink The Pain Away

Author's Notes:

Okay sorry for the late post, first it was the proofreader than it me. As you may have read in my recent blog, the Proofreader had some family problem, so I gave her until 5:00 pm central. Then 5:00 pm comes around, she's done and my internet cuts out. So I had to leave to fix itself for a few hours and now I'm back online.

Anyway here is the new chapter. Though I did plan to post two chapters today, things happened and the next chapter will be posted hopefully tomorrow at 10:00 am central, or 5:00 pm central, depending on when she gets done with that chapter and the internet quits cutting out on me.

Sunset laid in Flash’s arms while he carried her out of there. Celestia had told them the police would here soon. It would be best for them not to be seen there. Sunset was still holding tightly to the gun she had used. Sure it was the only way, but at the same, she shot Princess Twilight point blank, well the Queen. Whoever this Queen was, she was clearly using the princess in some way, either through her body or just her face.

Flash carried her to the end of the road. At the end of the road was Twilight. She had borrowed Sunset’s car after Sunset had fallen at the party. There was a lot that had to be told, but first, they would get Sunset out of there. Flash placed Sunset in the back and told Twilight to drive off as fast as she could. He would catch up eventually once he had dealt with the police. He was a police officer after all. He couldn’t make it look like he was connected to the events of the school. He had to make it look like he had just arrived.

Once Sunset was in the car, Twilight drove off. They soon arrived at a bar on the other side of town. Twilight got out after parking. She walked to the back and opened the door. Sunset was still shivering, but her eyes were just blank slates. The gun she had used was still being held tightly in her hands. Twilight covered her mouth as she tried to be strong. She had no idea the stuff Sunset had gone through. She sat down beside Sunset and wrapped arms around her tightly until she stopped shivering. Once Sunset had calmed down, Twilight took the gun out of her hand and placed it under the chair. She slowly pulled Sunset out of the car, locked it, and walked her slowly into the bar. The two sat at the back of the bar so they could talk, but Sunset wouldn’t say a single word. This trouble Twilight greatly; she had to figure out what was going on.

The bartender walked up and asked if they wanted something to drink. Twilight asked for two beers, nothing more. Hopefully, if Sunset had something to drink, then she would feel like talking.

However, days passed, and Sunset never said a word. It was frightening. Why would she not say anything? Though she did not speak of what she saw, everybody else told her what they had seen. When her vision activated, she fainted to ground. After that had happened they took her to the hospital. She would randomly jump and twist while out. The doctors were all confused. The one they for sure was that the gem was glowing the entire time and any who tried to grab it would receive severe burns.

Despite her refusal to talk about what she herself saw, Sunset took their words to heart. The gem was clearly a powerful magical object, but what was it used for, and how did it get here? Sunset didn’t know how she would be able to figure out these answers since both ways of contacting Equestria were now gone. Well, there was one way. The gem did allow her to travel to Equestria, even if she wasn’t completely there when she used it. Of course, that was another problem. It was clear this was what was making her have the visions, possibly even before she found it, but how those visions worked was another question altogether.

A full weekend passed after the accident. Flash arrived at work to try and get back some normalcy. He had taken the weekend off to try and be with Sunset to help her heal. But she closed out everyone completely. He wasn’t even able to get his gun back. He had to order a replacement.

He walked over to Jack and sat down as Jack was cleaning his inventions. Jack placed down his stuff and looked to see Flash’s tired face and asked, “Wow Flash, are you okay?”

“No,” he stopped for a moment and then continued, “Well yes. I’ll be fine.”

“Okay,” Jack went back to what he was doing.

Moonchaser walked up to them with some papers, “Hey, we just got a call in.”

“What about?” Flash stood up for a moment.

“Well, apparently, Redsting wants us to go after a criminal he has been tracking, and he is asking for some policeman to follow her.”

“Her?” Flash grabbed the paper, Moonchaser had and looked it over.

“This the Red Biker. She has been seen at several magic accidents in the area lately. Even that one about the giant crystal consuming that school.”

“What?” Flash looked in confusion as he grabbed the rest of the papers from Moonchaser.

Jack got up, slightly annoyed, and walked over to see what they were looking at. He looked over the picture of the Red Biker and lifted his eyebrow slightly. “Wait a minute, is that the same biker I saw after the attack at the bar?”

“Wait, you mean the bar that Cult Race attacked?”

“Yeah.”

Flash smiled at this as he walked over to his spot to grabbed his keys. “Come on Jack. We’re taking the job on.”

“Fine,” Jack walked over and grabbed his coat. “Moonchaser, do you want to follow?”

“Sure, let me just grab my partner.” Moonchaser ran over his desk and nudged at a short red skin man with blonde hair, “Come on Savage Raza, wake up. We have work to do.”

“Uhm,” Savage Raza slowly woke up. “Nah I have paperwork to fill out.” He leaned back more.

Annoyed with Savage Raza blatant laziness, they left him behind and quickly made their way to Sombra’s office as he was taking some notes. He looked up to see the three walk in. “And what are you three after?”

“We want to take on the case that Resting is after, Sir,” Flash spoke up.

“So you have the same suspicion that I have?”

“About what, Sir?”

“Don’t play stupid, Flash. I know this girl has been seen at few places as Cult Race, but what you don’t know is that she has also been spotted at few of the places your girlfriend visits.” Sombra stood up and walked around his desk.

“Really?” Flash looked in surprise.

“Truth be told, I was wondering when you three would walk in here.”

“So I’m assuming we can go out there?” Jack questioned.

“Of course, but keep your eyes on both sides. I don’t trust Redsting, and I never will.”

On that note, they left and went to their cars while Sombra called Redsting about them helping. He agreed to the help and told him the area the Red Biker was last seen in. Once Sombra was done, he called Flash and the others on the radio, telling them where to go.

Once they were gone, Savage Raza suddenly got a call on his phone. He grabbed it out and looked at the caller ID. “Damn it! I was sleeping,” He answered it, “Fine, what do you want, Red?” After a few words that could be heard, he hung up. “Great, looks like I have work to do anyways.”

Heading over to the area, they soon spotted the Red Biker. She was driving by a bar for some reason. She kept circling it but never entering.

Flash’s and Moonchaser’s cars pulled over the side of the road, nearly a block and a half away from her, and they grabbed out their binoculars.

They sat and waited for what felt like hours as she continued to circle this bar. Flash looked at the bar. He couldn’t figure out what she wanted with this bar. However, he soon realized, “Wait, is that the same bar Twilight brought Sunset to for her to calm down?”

“Calm down? From what? Did she get into some sort of fight?” Jack questioned as he messed with his inventions, “Wait, whatever happened to her going to the hospital a few days ago?”

Flash looked out of his binoculars and looked to Jack, taking a moment to try and tell him something to explain the situation without telling him what happen to Sunset afterward.

However, before he could say anything, what sounded like a gunshot could be heard coming from the bar. Flash and Jack jumped upon hearing it as they turned toward the sound. Flash looked through the binoculars to see if he could see the inside of the bar.

At that moment, he jumped out of his car, dropped the binoculars, and ran toward the bar. “What are you doing Flash?” Jack grabbed the binoculars and looked through them. His eyes widened upon seeing Sunset in the bar have a fight.

Pissed off, he tried to get out of the car when, out of nowhere, the Red Biker drove away from the bar. “Shit,” He looked back and forth from Flash and the Red Biker. He had a job to do, but he couldn’t leave his partner be.

The further the Red Biker got, the angrier Jack got. Until he finally slammed on the car’s dashboard and got over to the driver’s seat. He pulled out the radio, “Moonchaser, we going after the biker.”

“Got it.”

On that, they drove off and went after the Red Biker. She drove down several blocks passing several cars. It was clear that she knew she was being followed as she tried every chance to break free of their sight. Finally, she reached the Everfree Forest and decided to go off road. Jack followed after her through several rocks and mud. Without warning, he jumped upon hearing fireworks coming from the park.

He ignored them and kept driving until they were out of the forest. Once they were out of the forest, they chased her down more blocks when out nowhere, a black and red Ford Mustang pulled out in front of them.

Jack and Moonchaser quickly pushed on the brakes to try and not hit it, but they were going too fast. At this range, they would hit the Mustang. Jack covered his face and prepared for the incoming crash.

However, the Mustang’s window went down and the sleeve of a fine green, business suit reached out. Instantly, Jack and Moonchaser’s cars stopped just mere inches from the Mustang.

As Jack slowly realized the crash was not happening, he pulled his arms down and looked with shock. The cars had done the impossible and stopped completely. However, both the Red Biker and the Mustang were gone.

Jack slammed his fist in the seat beside him annoyed, but glad they were alive. He was about to turn the wheel and go back to check on Flash when the radio suddenly went off.

“This is Bob Minder. I need all nearby units to head over to the Everfree Forest Park. Immediately, Cult Race has just been spotted there.”

Jack frowned and looked to Moonchaser. Knowing instantly what Jack was saying, the two drove off to the Everfree Forest.

Down the road, the Red Biker hid, trying to catch her breath as she parked in an alley. The red and black Mustang pulled up beside her and parked. She looked at the Mustang confused as she got off her motorcycle and slowly walked over to it.

Without warning her body lifted into the air and the window rolled down. “You stupid girl. You nearly got yourself caught,” spoke the Fine Gentleman as he kept himself hidden inside his dimly lit car.

The Red Biker grabbed at her throat, feeling it being squeezed. “I’m sorry, Sir. I had sensed Sunset at the bar, but couldn’t figure out what she was doing there.”

“Your connection with her is always useful, but you are stepping over the line. Without the necklace, the power I am after will always be out of my reach. Which means following her right now is pointless. What if she saw your face?”

“Please, Sir, you know I’m more careful than tha--” she stopped as the squeezing got tighter.

“You better be, or I will place you back in the hole I found you in.” Suddenly the Red Biker’s phone began to ring. “You better get that.” On that, he dropped her to the ground and drove off.

The Red Biker laid there trying to catch her breath as the phone continued to ring. She slowly pulled it out after a moment and looked at the caller ID. “Damn it, Ada--,” she began to cough really hard. She quickly pulled off her helmet and coughed so hard that she puked up black oil-like blood. “I need to follow him and his orders.” She hung up the phone without answering. “If I don’t, then I’m as good as the dead body he found me as.”
