Twilight Sparkle has used dark magic many times before, knowing the risk that comes with it. But when she uses it one last time it takes over. Will Twilight 's friends be able to save her? Or is she destined to rot in the frozen north?
While Twilight Sparkle is experimenting with purple flames, the dark magic she uses takes over. After an encounter with Celestia, she flies to the far north mountains, planning the princess' demise. Can she be saved? Or has Equestria met its end?
Prologue
"Spike! Where is my copy of 'The Advanced Guide to Magical Fire: Volume one'?"
"It's in your bedroom. You took up there a few days ago after one of your 'bookcations'."
"Thanks." Twilight Sparkle trotted up the staircase of the castle. On the way she passed the northern wing. "I sure am glad that this area was put together. Otherwise, my room would have been crowded," Twilight thought to herself.
"Mom! Nova's teasing me again!" A lump of dirt hit the window. Twilight flew outside.
"Cam down Star. And Nova stop teasing your sister, even if she is smaller, she is the older twin."
"But-"
"No. Go inside you two. Spike is making dinner." The sisters went inside. Suddenly, a rainbow streak hit the ground in front of Twilight.
"Hello Twilight."
"Hello Sonic Spectrum. What are you doing here?"
The pink alicorn shuffled her hooves. "Well... I was hoping I could stay here for a few days. My house kind of... burnt down." She looked at Twilight, blushing.
"What did you do this time?"
"I borrowed a book from your library, and it was about multi-colored flames. So I tested it out, and accidentally hit the wall instead of the target."
Twilight facehoofed. "Ok. You can stay. But you have to go round everyone up for dinner."
"Ok!" Spectrum sped off.
Twilight went inside. She picked up her book and started to read.
'Directions to make purple flames. Step one: gather ingredients. One piece of poison joke root, two oak branches, a match, and a dozen lavender ivy petals. Mix together, then light match and throw in. Once the color changes to white, zap with dark magic.'
"Dark magic? Better be careful." Twilight prepared the batch of firestone. Then she started to use her magic. "Ow!" Twilight had a sharp pain in her horn." That never happened before." She continued, ignoring the pain, not noticing the purple smoke curling around her hooves. "Done." The smoke attacked, engulfing Twilight in dark magic.
"SPIKE! HELP!" She struggled to get out of the smoke's grasp.
SPIKE ran down the hall to Twilight 's room. But he as too late. All that remained of Twilight was a purple scorch mark.

Just to clear things up, Starburst does not belong to me. She is the creation of Kilala97. I'm just using her in my story.
Chapter 1-What Remains
It's been a day since Twilight disappeared. Nopony knows she's gone but the ones in the castle.
There was a meeting going on in the Freindship room.
"We have to do something!" Rainbow Dash said.
"We're doing all we can," Applejack said.
"Sending out search parties isn't doing anything!"
"Calm down Rainbow. Maybe she'll come back on her own," Pinkie Pie replied, her mane flat. Rainbow Dash stared at her angrily.
"I'm afraid Applejack is right, dear. We can't do anymore than we are. Most of us are already exhausted," said Rarity. And she was right. All of them but Rainbow Dash sported bags under their eyes. Fluttershy couldn't even make it to the meeting, falling asleep before she could get out the door. Spectrum was watching everypony else back at Canterlot. Even Nova, Star, Night Light, and Moondrop knew that their mother was missing. No matter how hard they had tried, the four ponies found out. Star was angry when she did.
"I'm not a foal anymore, and neither is my sister! We're grown ponies, and you tried to keep this from us?" She had said. Nopony could calm her down but Nighty.
But no matter what, zero traces of Twilight were left behind, except for the book she was reading. Spike didn't even want to send a letter to Princess Celestia until they had some clue as to where she went. And they were all dreading when they had to tell Flash. He was on duty at the moment, having volunteered a few days before to go to Canterlot while some old books from the Archives were restored.
Sadly, all anypony knew about Twilight's disappearance was that they were what remained.

Okay, so Sonic Spectrum is my oc. She is a pink, rainbow-maned alicorn who moved to Ponyville a couple years back. At this point in time, Twilight has four kids. Starburst, Night Light Jr., Nova Star, Starburst's twin sister, and Moondrop Sentry. Yes I know that flashlight is kind of hated, but for this fic, it's necessary for the plot.
P.s: This is my first fic, so please tell me what you think. And sorry about grammar errors.
Chapter 2-Her Return
"I'M BACK!" Twilight screamed.
"Twilight? That doesn't look like you," Spike said.
Twilight was a dark purple color. Her mane was almost black, with a dark pink and green stripe through it. Her horn spun sickly fumes of dark magic. Her eyes glowed bright green and had smoke trailing after them.
"Nothing will ever hurt me again!" Twilight went to hit them with her magic.
Meanwhile, Flash Sentry had been flying home and saw what was going on. He raced down to the 5 ponies and dragon. Instead of the beam hitting them it struck Flash. He fell to the ground, not moving.
"Oh look. The little pegasus tried to play hero. Oh well. Now there's just one less pony to get in my way," Twilight said mockingly. She kicked Flash's corpse away, then flew off to Canterlot castle.
Spike ran to Flash, checking for a sign of life. Everything was quiet.
All that could be heard in the silence was the sobbing of a dragon.

Chapter 3-So Close, Yet So Far
Celestia sat in the throne room, reading over the letter. She was about to send out a group of guards to look for Twilight, when a purple cloud of smoke crept under the door. It took shape. Twilight stood in the middle of the room.
"Twilight?" Celestia asked. "What are you-" She didn't finish the sentence. Twilight rushed at her, using her magic. The sun princess raised a shield. BOOM! The force of the blow echoed throughout the room. Celestia's shield cracked. Twilight smiled and hit the shield, breaking it.
"No." Celestia's eyes glowed. A beam of blinding light hit Twilight. She got up, bewilderment running across her eyes. She spread her wings and, breaking a window, flew away to the frozen north.
Princess Celestia sat down, tears dripping off her face.

Chapter 4-A Frozen Heart
White snow swirled around Twilight 's hooves. Finally, she could plan out Celestia's doom. She started to create a castle. It was a replica of her own, but made of dark colored crystal. It was also missing the council room, but had the map. She also carved a purple sword, bearing her cutie mark.
"Nopony will servlet get in my way again. Then Equestria will see who really is in charge," she said, with a choice sounding like Sombra's. He laughed. "Foolish alicorn. You were so easy to take. Unlike the Nightmare pony." Sombra was in control.
Twilight went inside.

Several ponies gathered in the castle. All of them were grieving over Flash, and the corruption of Twilight. Golden Rays paced alongside his wife, Starburst, while his daughter, Morning Stardust, sat in the corner. Stardust got up, and left without anypony seeing her. She was going to find her grandmother.

Chapter 5-Back in a Flash Part 1
"I believe there may be a way to bring back Flash Sentry. A spell, created by Starswirl the Bearded. It can only be used once, but I believe this is worth it," said Princess Celestia. She ate the book down. "We need to stop by Zecora's hut to gather some of the ingredients. The rest are already here at the castle."
The group set out to get the items.

After they were done, Celestia called upon Luna to perform the spell. Flash's body was placed in the center of the room. Luna's eyes glowed as she cast it. A few minutes later and it was done. "We will have to wait about one minute for the effects to work."
Flash stood up. "Ow. What happened?"
"You died."
"Rainbow Dash! Don't be so blunt!" said Rarity. "Flash, dear? You seem to have something on your head."
Flash felt his head. "You're right."
It was a horn.

Also, Luna was the only one who could perform the spell, since it dealt with life and death.
Chapter 6-Dusting The Stars
Stardust flew away from Canterlot, heading in the direction of the Crystal Mountains. Her horn lit up with a blue and orange light. "A simple locator spell should work." She knew that Twilight would have cast wards so that she wouldn't be found, but that's not saying anything about her hoofprints. Even in the heavy snows, there would be patches that would be slightly sunken in.
"There!" She flew down to where the prints stopped. In front of her was a large castle, with a resemblance to Castle Harmony. It was perfectly carved out of crystal. "Of course. Even when dark magic has taken over, she still has organizing problems." She facehoofed. Stardust opened the doors and went inside to find her grandmother.

To clear it up, Morning Stardust is the daughter of Starburst and Golden Rays. Golden Rays is Celestia's son, and the second oldest. He has chaos magic, but can only use his alicorn magic, due to some weird fluke. But anyways, Stardust is a yellow-orange alicorn, with a blue mane. Her mane is cut short and has a pink stripe along the outside. She keeps it pulled back with a teal ribbon. Her cutie mark is an orange Sun, the moon, and a star. Her magic, is orange with a teal outline. Her tail is the same as her mane, but has a bright green stripe down the middle.
Chapter 7-Back in a Flash Part 2
"But how is that possible?! I'm not an alicorn!" Flash Sentry said.
"You are now." Princess Celestia emerged from the corner.
"Princess! Your horn! I-It's gone!" Rarity said, astonishment creeping into her voice.
Celestia's horn was gone, and her mane no longer had the gleam of the Sun. Her cutie mark was now a sunset. The colors of her mane were a soft shade of pink, and was pulled back like a normal pony's. She had gotten smaller, too, being the size of her sister. She was still a princess, but she was now a tall pegasus.
"I gave up my immortality and magic, so that Flash may live."
"Wait does that mean I'll have to raise the Sun?! I can't do that!"
Celestia laughed. "No, my little pony. Luna will take care of that until Stardust is older. I no long can control the Sun, even though I have a connection to it." They all looked over to Luna. She had changed too, but only because she now controlled the Sun, moon, and stars. She was now slightly taller, and her mane had galaxies and stars scattered across it. Her cutie mark only changed a small amount. It was now the crescent moon with a pale half Sun next to it. "My cutie mark will stay like this until young Stardust comes of age. Then it will go back to normal, but I will keep my current appearance," Luna said.
They started to plan out how to get Twilight back, unaware of the filly already attempting to do so.
Chapter 8-bum, Bum, BUM! Surprise
Twilight paced around the library. He couldn't think of a way to take over without being permanently blinded. Every time that an attack was made, Celestia would just call the guard and protect the castle. Even impersonation didn't work. That lesson was learned the hard way. And so Twilight decided to carefully plan out a surprise.
Meanwhile, from the shadows, Stardust sat watching her. 'Sombra must be controlling her. That's all I can think of an answer to why she is referring to events like she knew what he thought,' she thought to herself.
It was true. Sombre had managed to return and had taken control of Twilight.

Chapter 9-Confrontation Part 1: Luna
Luna stood in the back of the room while they argued over a plan. She noticed Stardust was missing, and decided that she had gone to find Twilight herself.
"I will be right back," she told the others. She left the room, then flew away.

Starburst crept out off her hiding place.
"Twilight! I know you are in there. Fight it," Stardust said.
"Foolish filly. Twilight is no more."
"You're wrong! I know she's still there. And I know she can hear me!" Starburst charged, her eyes glowing. She let go of the magic building on her horn. It raged towards Sombra, who dodged it. She charged up he magic again. This time it was a ball of chaotic sunlight, blazing with all the heat of the stars, and the cold of the moon. It hit Sombra dead on. Sombra emerged with frostbite over top of his sunburn. He attacked, black chains grabbing Stardust around the throat. Stardust couldn't breathe. Her eyes glowed bright as she overpowered the dark magic.
Luna burst through the window. She summoned her sword and stabbed Sombra. He grunted in pain.
"Luna! You know as well as I do that you can't beat me like that!" Sombra shouted.
"You may be right, but I will not go that far ever again."
Stardust tried to hit Sombra with her magic, but missed. She was wrapped in stronger chains.
"Let her go, Sombra. She is innocent."
"Never."
With this, Luna became outraged. Her eyes glowed, her form growing taller than Celestia's former height. Her coat became black and her mane flowed around her. Sharp teeth and dragon-like eyes completed the transformation. Luna was Nightmare Moon.
