Chapter 5: Loyal Athlete

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

"So you gotta run some errands for your dad?" Spike asked. He was currently talking on the phone with Ember, presently he was walking down the sidewalk in the city. There was very little to do for today; nothing good was on television, he didn't feel like playing video games at least until later, and Ember had a few jobs tasked by her father who as always was running late. He decided to take a little walk into town.

"Yeah, he said that it was important." Ember's voice said from the other line. "Sorta like all the other times and of course he didn't say why." she grumbled that last part.

"Well alright, bye." he said putting away his phone. As he walked he stopped at the sight of the image of a very cool looking skateboard behind a window. "Woah, nice board." he said, he always did have a knack for skateboarding.

His thoughts were cut off by the sounds of a roaring engine, looking to where it was coming from, Spike saw a motorcycle in the distance and seemed to be on its way to where he was. Once it stopped just next to him he marveled at it, it was a customized Kawasaki Ninja ZX 1, most of the color was light blue and had rainbow highlights running through it. The rider was female and had clothing that he recognized. She took off her helmet and she was revealed to be Rainbow Dash.

"'Sup Spike?" she greeted flashing him a peace sign.

"Rainbow Dash. Hey." he greeted back. "Awesome ride." he complimented admiring the bike.

"Thanks buddy." she replied rubbing her motorcycle. "Customized this baby along with my dad back when I was a kid, waited 'til I got my licence to finally ride it."

"Cool. So what are yo up to?" he asked.

Rainbow shrugged. "Nothing much, though I'd take it out for a spin." she replied. "What about you?

"Kinda the same thing." he told her. "Not really sure what to do today."

"Really." Hmm. Rainbow then though of an idea "Here, catch." she tossed him an extra helmet.

"Wait, what?" he asked catching it.

The multicolored haired athlete started up her ride and put her helmet on. "Hop in kid, for today you'll be riding with me. I'm gonna take you to my usual hangouts." she told him.

"Really?' he asked surprised. "Are you sure?"

"You bet ya. Also, as an added bonus, you'll get to spend most of the day with none other then me, I mean who would say no to that?" she smugly asked rhetorically.

"Well um okay." he said as out on the helmet and got on the cool motorcycle behind Rainbow Dash.

"You might wanna hold on tight.' she told him. "This baby's can go on for miles!"

"I beg you pard-ONNNN!" he yelped as Rainbow kicked it into overdrive and took off at high speed a few people were coughing from the dust left behind.

"Whoo-hoo!" Rainbow whooped while Spike was holding onto her very tightly.

"Maybe you should slow down!" he advised.

"Slow down?" she repeated as if those words don't exist. "Sorry kid, but those words aren't really in my vocabulary!" she said as she continued to ride off.

After about 10 minutes, they both arrived at Rainbow's intended location, the motorcycle skidded a little bit before stopping at the parking lot. Once she took off her helmet, Rainbow Dash had a content smile on her face.

"Ahh, now that was awesome!" she proclaimed. "Right Spike?" when she got no answer she looked back at her bike. "Yo Spike, you good?"

The young boy looked like he just got out of bed and was very dizzy as he stumbled in his steps.

"Oh man, feels like I just went through rush hour." he commented. "Twice."

"Come on dude, it wasn't that bad." she said.

"Are you kidding?" he looked at her incredulously. "I'm surprised we weren't pulled over."

"Hah!" she chuckled. "Trust me that wasn't first time I've sped up an none was able to catch me." she smiled fondly at all the memories of speeding away without getting one speeding ticket.

"Somehow, I believe you." he said with a nervous look. "Still it was very unpleasant."

"Oh please." she scoffed. "I know you enjoyed it." she claimed with confidence.

"In what way could I have possibly enjoyed it?"

Rainbow gave him a look that made him uneasy. It was a flirtatious look, the same one Rarity and other girls from school would give him, she wrapped an arm around him and pushed him to her chest immediately making him blush.

"Don't be shy kiddo, I could feel you holding on very tight." she told him, ruffling his hair. "Wanted to cop a feel huh?" she said, pushing him deeper into her bust.

"I-I only did that so that I wouldn't fall off." he said nervously.

"Come on, don't hide it." she playfully teased. "Admit it squirt, you liked it didn't you?"

"Wha-What? Uh no! No!" he protested. "Let's just move on, okay?"

"Whatever."

He then looked to where they stopped at. "The gym?" he questioned surprised, looking at the building, he didn't expect to spend the rest of the day here. "I thought it's closed on Sundays?" he recalled.

"It is." she nodded. "Here's the thing, I'm pretty tight with the son of the owner here, whenever I wanna exercise alone, I ask him to ask his pop to let me be here." she explained.

"And he said yes?" he asked.

"Pretty much." she nodded. The multi-colored haired athlete gestured him to follow her into the building. "I also happen to be a well respected and loyal member of this gym, been going here with my old man ever since I was little. Hey, you ever did any fun stuff with your dad?" she asked, changing the subject.

Spike shifted uncomfortably. "Yeah. Yeah we did..." the mere mention of his father or his mother would make him freeze up, go completely silent and stiff. He did do fun stuff with his dad, stuff that he will never get the chance to do ever again...

"Spike?" Rainbow asked, snapping him out of it. "You alright? You froze up on me." she said, looking a little concerned.

"Hm? Oh uh, I'm fine, um, so are we going or what?"

"Yeah, sure."

The two of them walked into the gymnasium where a huge teenage boy stood at the counter with a whit t-shirt and blazk pants. He was muscular, like very muscular, you would think that he didn't go to school, bit he does, his hair was blonde and had red eyes.

"Hey, Bulk Biceps." Rainbow greeted. "Everything good?"

"YEAH!" Bulk Biceps replied very loudly, startling Spike.

Rainbow gestured to Spike. "This is my buddy, Spike. Dude, meet Bulk Biceps, the manager's son."

"Um, nice to meet you." Spike held his hand up for a handshake.

Bulk took his hand and shook it with extreme force. "Nice to meet you too little buddy!" Here to try out the gym with Rainbow Dash?" he questioned, letting go of the poor kid's hand. Once they let go, Spike had to rub his hand a bit to ease the slight pain. Miraculously, it immediately healed, must be a dragon thing.

"Yes." Spike replied.

"We'll go right in!" Bulk told them. "Take as much time as want in there!"

"Cool, later." Rainbow said.

"YEAH!" Bulk exclaimed.

Spike and Rainbow passed by him and went in. "He seems a bit over-exited." he remarked.

Rainbow chuckled. "You have no idea." They made their way to the locker rooms. "I'm gonna head in and change you wait out here." she told him. Spike waited for about a few minutes or more until she was finished. "Alright, let's get working." she declared, once he looked at her new clothes, he slightly blushed.

Her workout outfit was a short-sleeved white shirt and blue shorts, only they tightly covered her curves and bust, making her very distracting. Those little shorts exposed her sweet well toned legs, being on pratically every sports team in school was doing wonders for her, she had her hands on her hips which made her more attractive.

"Woah." Spike breathed. "Nice workout gear."

Rainbow smiled, with a tint of red on her cheeks. "Thanks bud. Now come on, I'll show you the ropes." Spike followed her to two 30 ton dumbbells. "Okay, lift these up, do about 20 or more." she told him. Though a little hesitant, Spike did so with ease, much to his surprise.

"Huh, these things seem way lighter than they look." he remarked.

"Yeah." she nodded approvingly. "That new dragon strength is doing wonders, isn't it?"

"I'll say." the young green haired boy lifted the heavyweights going to pass 20 and up to 30. After that he put them down. "Alright, got that out of the way, now what?" he asked.

"Now. We keep going until you bleed..." she whispered in a semi-threading tone but then perked up. "Just kidding!" she laughed. "Try and keep up kid."

"Why do I have such a bad feeling about this?" Spike asked mostly to himself.

The next hours were filled with trying to keep up with who he has to say was the most driven athlete he's ever known, as you can imagine it was a challenge. For starters, going at the same speed with her at the treadmill; which was very fast is easier said than done, he had enough sweat to fill a whole bucket; on the plus side he got to see her breasts bounce a little...which he reprimanded himself for doing.

Next was the leg extension machine, then there was the preacher bench, weight benches, etc. Pretty much any exercise equipment they could find in the gym. After so much time they were done, which Spike was so glad because even though he wasn't bleeding, he certainly felt like it. He'll have to ask her how she's able to stomach all that exercise.

"Nice workout!" Rainbow complimented enthusiastically. "Well Spike, what did you think?"

"I think I need to take P.E. class more seriously from now on." Spike remarked, rubbing his back a little to ease the strain. "Besides that, it was okay. Will that be all?"

Rainbow laughed as they went to the exit. "Not even close. Later Bulk, see you in school."

"YEAH!" Bulk replied.

The two of them exited for the gym and went back to the parking lot, to find Rainbow's motorcycle and head off to the next place.

"You know I have to say, it's pretty amazing that you're able to go through all that and not break a single sweat. So, props to you for that." he told her.

"Thanks." Rainbow replied. "But if I gotta be honest, it wasn't easy at first. You might find it hard to believe but when I was little, about 3 I think, I wasn't always like that. But, I had the potential for it so one day me and my pop went tot he gym, I wanted tog o a few more times and well I became the awesome athlete you see today."

"I can believe that." he smiled.

"Yeah, one day I hope I'm good enough to make it to Wonderbolt status." she said.

"Wonderbolts." Spike repeated, thoughtfully. "Aren't they that famous pro sports team?" he inquired.

"That's them." she nodded. "For as long as I can remember all I've wanted was a shot to show them and everybody else that I'm good enough to join them. To join Spitfire, Soarin', Fleetfott, etc."

"You're aiming pretty high." he remarked.

"That's the point."

Spike then saw something up ahead that immediately concerned him. "Um, Rainbow, I think we got some trouble."

Once they made it to the motorcycle, they saw there were a few threatening looking fellows there.

"Hey! What do you guys want?" Rainbow demanded, scowling at them.

"Hey easy Rainbow Crash." one of them said, tauntingly, he was muscular and had brown hair. "We were just watching this ugly bike." He and his buddies shared a cruel laugh.

"Watch what you're calling ugly, Hoops." Rainbow shot back.

"You know these chumps." Spike asked.

"Score, Hoops, and Dumbbell, the biggest jerks you'll ever meet." Rainbow explained.

"I'm sorry were you gonna go ride?" Hoops asked. "Well sorry, but we were thinking of doing a makeover, the color scheme isn't that appealing. Got a problem with it?"

"Woah, easy, we don't want any trouble." Spike eased, trying to defuse the situation.

"Back off, shrimp!" Score scowled.

"Hey, you can threaten me, but leave my bud alone!" Rainbow proclaimed.

"What are you gonna do? Beat us up?" Score challenged. "I'm shaking."

Rainbow simply smirked in response.

One minute later...

The three dunderheads were on the ground, groaning in pain. They were covered in bruises and their clothes were cut.

"Wow." Spike breathed after a moment's silence. "You really did a number on these guys."

"Let that be a lesson to you kid, don't mess with me."

"Noted." he replied as they got on her bike. "Hey, this time can I trust you to not go all speed demon again?" he asked meekly.

"Hate to break it to you bud, but I can't make any promises." she smirked.

"I'll take that as a no." he sighed, defeated.

"Hey come on, it's not all bad, this way you get to cop a feel." she reminded him with a teasing smile.

Spike groaned inwardly. "Will you just drop that already?" he blushed.

"Let me think about it..." Rainbow started. "Nah." Before she started the bike, she turned to him. "Hey Spike you got any hobbies of your own?

"Well, um yeah." Spike answered, not expecting that question. "I like to skateboard whoever I have the time."

"Your board at home?" she inquired.

"Yeah." he nodded. "It should still be in my room at the house."

"Then hang on!" she grinned and kicked it into overdrive and rode off, Spike screaming on the way.

At the Cinder residence, Ember was sitting on the sofa of the living room watching some television. She just came back from her errands and decided to catch up on her programs, though a part of her was wondering where her housemate was.

'Spike's been gone a while.' she thought. 'Maybe I should've made time for him.' her musing were cut short by the sound of the doorbell. Once she opened she found that it was her friend.

"Hey Ember." he greeted as he passed by.

"Spike?" she questioned.

"Sorry, but gotta get my skateboard." He went to his room and came back down with it. "I'm just going to the park with Rainbow Dash, be back soon."

"Oh, I see." she frowned a little. "Bye."

"Later." he said as he closed the door.

After getting the board, Spike and Rainbow Dash went to the park as planned. She wanted him to show a bit of his moves and needless to say, she was impressed. Spike was performing some wicked moves, he did some 360 spins, backflips, and such. For a little kid, he knew how to get some mad air, she just saw him perform one last move.

"Whoo!" she cheered, clapping. "That was awesome!"

Spike rubbed his head, bashful. "Eh, it was nothing."

"No I'm serious, you're really great."

"Thanks." he blushed a bit. "Hey, can I ask you something?"

"Yeah."

"How did you get involved in the whole magic pony thing?" he asked, curious.

Rainbow shook her head nostalgically. "Now that takes me back..."

Months earlier...

'Before I got my powers, my life was pretty straightforward, back then I did all I could to win on all the sports teams I was on,. Each time someone from other schools would try to poach me to join their team but I always brushed them off.' she narrated.

'How come?'

'Dude, if there's one thing I'm good at other than sports, it's being loyal. Once I'm part of a team I have a commitment to them, you know. I couldn't just leave them, but you know I always wanted more, I wanted more excitement guess what I didn't know was that my kind of loyalty would attract others' attention this granting me my wish. See, I was the third to join the team, and let me tell you it was something I would never forget.'

"Woah!" Rainbow exclaimed. She was on her way home from a game until she got attacked by what looked like a gargoyle. It was hovering over her with predatory intent. Before it could attacked it was blasted by a purple blast. Rainbow looked and saw Twilight Sparkle and Rarity in their pony forms.

"Rainbow Dash, are you alright?" Rarity asked.

"You two?" What's going on?!" she asked.

"Listen Rainbow don't panic-" Twilight assured but was cut off.

"This is awesome!" Rainbow exclaimed with excitement shocking her.

"The gargoyle flew down and tried to attacked with its claws but Rarity shielded them with a diamond force field.

"Twilight! I can't hold this for long!"

Rainbow had no idea what was going on but a part of her wanted to show that gargoyle a lesson, then something happened she was enveloped in a blue aura then a flash make by Twilight and Raritu blond their eyes. Once the light died down Rainbow Dash now had pony ears, and wings.

"Woah." Rainbow marveled at her new appearance. "Alright let's do this!" she flew right through the field and charged at the beast. It tried to whack her but she was just too fast. She got behind it and charge a lightning ball and blasted it. "Whoo!"

"After that, they explained everything to me and I joined up just like that." she finished.

"Really?" Spike asked. "Just like that?"

"Pretty much."

Spike noticed the sun setting. "It's getting late, drive me home?"

"Sure thing."

Once they went back to Spike's house, he dismounted from the bike, board in hand.

"See you later Dash, today was fun." he said.

"Anytime Spike." Rainbow replied. "Oh before I forget." she grabbed his chin and planted a nice kiss on his cheek. Spike was completely surprised, he wouldn't expect to this from Rainbow and it felt great. She then seperated. "Until next time dragon boy." she winked, and rode off.

"What a woman." Spike breathed with wide eyes and went in his house.
