Chapter 1: The Book
Dusk Shine glanced over at Spike, who was fiddling with the edge of her dusty skirt. "Anything new happening?" He asked over his book, and she looked up.
"Um....no, not really. Unless you want to know about Elusive's new dress-shirt."
He sighed, tapping his chin. "Nah, not really. I just wish Lord Solaris would send me something new to read..."
Right at that moment, Bubble Berry dashed screaming into the Golden Oak Library, his hair crazy and his shorts ripped.
"D-Dusky, ya gotta help me!! Blitz's gonna-" "GOTCHA!!" There was a loud thump, a cry, and then laughter.
Dusk stood, snapping his book shut and glaring at his goofball friends. "Really? Right here? Why don't you go goof off at AJ's!"
Rainbow Blitz grinned sheepishly, twitching his light blue wings. "Sorry, Dusk. Bubbles was begging me to chase him for some reason, so I did."
Dusk rolled his eyes. "You guys could have broke-" Right then, the bookshelf the two teens had rolled into wobbled, creaked, and then fell over on top of them, books tumbling everywhere.
"YOU GUYS!!" Dusk cried, and Bubble cracked up, popping up from the ocean of novels. "Run, Blitzy! He's gonna blow!" Before crawling out, standing, and sprinting out the door. Blitz grunted, he too climbing out.
"Heh heh....sorry, dude. Catch ya later!" And took off after Bubble, closing the door behind him.
"Well then. That happened." Spike stated, her green eyes wide.
Dusk sighed in exasperation. "You don't say." He muttered, analyzing the mess before him. "Now I have to re-organize EVERYTHING. Great." The small dragon girl rocked on her heels, before turning towards the door.
"Well then, I'll just be on my way-" Dusk sternly shook his head and took her small wrist in his hand.
"Nope. You get to help me tidy up." She glared at him, stomping a foot.
"I don't wanna! Elusive said that he needs help finding jewels today and I'm gonna be late!" He ignored her protests and ruffled her spiky green hair.
"Then hurry up, and you won't be late. Come on." Just as Spike opened her mouth to utter yet another protest, her eyes widened, she puffed her chest out, and let out a powerful flaming-green belch. A scroll dropped to floor as the young girl hiccuped. Dusk eagerly picked it up and unrolled it, beginning to read as Spike snuck out the door, seizing her opportunity.
Dear Dusk Shine,
I presume you have already read the books I have given to you, and you have nothing left to read? Well, as luck may have it, I happen to have a fresh batch of books I am not reading at the moment, and you would probably quite enjoy them. If it would not be too much trouble, I have them out and waiting for you if you'd like to come receive them,
Lord Solaris
"Yes! Right on time!" Dusk cried. "Okay Spike, I'm heading out for a bit, I'll be back soon-" He stopped mid-sentence, seeing that she was nowhere to be found. "Okay. Well then." He shrugged, before grabbing his bag and pushing open the door to the Golden Oak Library. He waved to Butterscotch, on his way to the market, no doubt, and the long haired, slender, and undoubtedly pretty-boy teen waved back, smiling shyly. He then jogged through the town, heading towards the train station.
"My goodness, you got here rather quickly." Lord Solaris's smooth, deep and elegant voice, fringed with mild amusement, caused Dusk to blush a little.
"Y-yeah, well, I'm out of books to read and-" Lord Solaris raised a hand, stopping him with a warm chuckle.
"Yes, yes, I know, my dear. That's why I got you some more." He crooked a finger, and a stack of books levitated around him and plopped into his bag. "I do believe you'll enjoy these books. They're favorites of mine, you see." Dusk almost squealed. Reading His Majesty's favorite books? Wow, what a privilege!
"Thank you, Your Highness!" He exclaimed, bowing. Lord Solaris smoothed his student's hair and smiled.
"Of course, my dear. You'd better start reading them, mm?" Dusk nodded eagerly.
"Oh yes! I will!" He hugged him quickly before turning and dashing out the throne room. Solaris couldn't help but chuckle.
"My goodness....he's hyper today." His eyes narrowed a little. "I wonder how he'll feel when he reads the..."special", book...."
"Ooh, exciting. You got more BOOKS." Rainbow Blitz drawled sarcastically, running his fingers through his glossy, rainbow hair. Dusk glared at him.
"Yeah? What's it to you?" He retorted in embarrassment, shoving the bag of them under the bed.
"I, for one, think that Dusk deserves them." Eusive's voice, smooth and elegant as usual, sounded from the opposite side of the room. "He's quite intelligent. One simply cannot be born with that skill, you know." Blitz grinned, puffing out his chest.
"Guess I'm too awesome, cause I was." Elusive arched a finely-toned brow.
"No, you weren't." He responded bluntly, and Blitz deflated.
"Pff. Whatever." He replied. "Reading anything besides Daring Do is something only an egghead would do, anyway."
Applejack smirked. "So that makes ya an egghead then, Blitz. I saw yer porn magazines under yer bed." There were collective gasps, and Blitz's face turned red as a tomato.
"Oh yeah....those..."
Elusive sighed. "He's a brash, horny boy. What did you expect?" He scoffed, ducking away from Blitz's swing. "If you mess up my hair, I swear to Solaris I will kill you." The six teens laughed.
Later that night, Spike curled up in her cozy little basket and Dusk in his warm bed, the teenager was curled up by the light from a few candles, reading the books his teacher had given him. "Mm...interesting...." And other small, hushed comments were uttered every so often as he read.
He manged to plow through four of them before he came across a rather odd one. It was a faint lavender, and instead of leather, there was a soft silky material coating the book. There was no title, and the pages were gold-tinted.
Dusk's curiosity peaked, and he opened the curious book.
His eyes widened and his face erupted in heat as he slammed it shut immediately after reading the title. "A Mare's Guide To Lovemaking." He stared at the book as if it were going to bite him, his heart racing. "Now, why on earth would Lord Solaris lend me such a book?" He spluttered softly in astonishment. He remembered what his teacher had said..."...Some of my favorite books..." and his heart thudded. Was...was his teacher trying to tell him something? "I did promise him I'd read all of these books...so...I have to..." He swallowed nervously before picking up the book and tentatively reading the first page.
"Wow, Dusky. You look exhausted..." Butterscotch murmured in his hushed voice, and Elusive nodded in agreement.
"You have the most dreadful bags under your eyes, darling." And Dusk sighed. "I was up reading." He stated simply.
Blitz rolled his eyes. "Surprise surprise." He snickered, drumming his fingers on a table inside Sugar Cube Corners. Bubble tilted his head.
"Was it a good book, at least?" He piped up, and Dusk flushed, looking away. "Yeah..." He replied softly, and Applejack cast a sidelong look of confusion at Elusive.
"Okay then, what was it about?" The tanned teen questioned, and Dusk bit his lip.
"Uhhh......nothing all that great, really." He could feel his friends' gaze on him, and he suddenly stood, almost knocking over his drink. "Know what, I gotta go. C-catch you later!" And with that he turned and dashed across the square.
"Whew! He's fast!" Bubble giggled as Gummy mouthed his calf.
* * * *
"That was close..." He panted, for thinking about the book had led him to think about his dream, about Lord Solaris, and he was now pitching a tent. As Spike bounced down the stairs, he dove onto the couch and grabbed a pillow, slamming it with a wince over his crotch.
"Here, Dusk. Solaris just sent a scroll for you." She smiled, handing it to him. "I'm gonna go hang out with Bubbles. He's making more cupcakes today and I want one!" And with that she skipped out the door. He quickly untied the ribbon and unrolled it, beginning to read.
Dear Dusk Shine,
I believe you have already read the books I have given you? Of course, knowing you, I need not to guess. My faithful student, I'd like you to come to the castle at exactly nine o'clock. I have a very important test for you...that I believe you will pass with ease.
Yours,
Lord Solaris.
Dusk swallowed nervously before tucking the scroll away. "R-right then. I'd.....I'd better get ready...." He stood and padded across the floor to the stairs.
"Greetings, my dear. And how are you on this lovely evening?" Lord Solaris greeted him with a warm smile, and Dusk smiled shyly.
"I-I'm good, your majesty." He replied, and Lord Solaris nodded.
"Lovely, Dusk." They made their way down the hallway, and in the moment of relaxed silence they shared, Dusk was able to really study his teacher. The very long, rippling hair brushed into a loose side ponytail, the elegant crown upon his head. The deep, slender, long-lashed eyes, studying everything with a knowledgeable, deep gaze. The flowing white cloak that trailed behind him, his thin lips that would curve up into that lovely smile that would send Dusk into a hot blush. After studying him, he suddenly realized that they were in a part of the castle that the boy had never seen before. He followed without question, however.
It wasn't long before the man had reached a large set of swooping, gold-edged doors, and he pressed his elegant hands against them, pushing them open. "Do come in, my dear student." He murmured, ushering a rather confused Dusk Shine in after him. It was....a bedroom.
"Um.....your majesty...I don't mean to be rude, but...am I going to be taking my test in here?" The student inquired. Lord Solaris gazed down at him, his deep purple gaze hard to decipher.
"Yes, Dusk Shine." He replied, closing the door and turning, suddenly gripping Dusk's forearm. "Do tell me, my dear. Did you read...the special, book?" Dusk's eyes widened, and he swallowed.
"Um....w-which one?" He stammered, although it was rather obvious to both of them that he was lying.
Lord Solaris pulled him close in a flurry of movement, raising his arm high and lowering his head so his mouth was close to Dusk's ear. "The one about sex, Dusk Shine." He murmured, and Dusk trembled as his teacher's lips brushed against his ear.
"Um.....m-maybe...." He managed to squeak out, and Lord Solaris nibbled the ridge of his ear.
"Did you like it?" He crooned.
