I have every book in the series

by Lenora Goff

Chapter 1: A one-shot

The entire series hadn't taken that long for her to read, though that wasn't much of an accomplishment to her. There had only been twenty four books that she had been able to get her hands on. The fastest flier in all of Equestria was also one of the fastest readers, or at least she would like to say so. Even if it wasn't true, she would claim it whenever she could. True, there hadn't been much of an opportunity to say something like that. In her mind, that didn't mean anything. Eventually, she could prove herself to b the fastest reader out there. I am so bored. The weather is done, the entire series is read. I have to admit, though, that last book didn't have much of an ending. Even I could have written something better than that. It's like the writer meant for there to be a final book, but never got around to writing it.

That's it! I will find the writer, and I'll talk them into writing one final book! It'll be so awesome. Or maybe they'll tell me to do it! Oh my gosh, how amazing would that be? I'd finally get to know how it ends before I read it. with her mind completely made up, it was time to actually start with her plan. First thing she had to do was figure out see exactly the writer was. You would expect that a fan of the series would have looked at the name of the author already, but it turned out that it had never seemed to be all that important. In her mind, the story had always seemed to be a lot more important than knowing who wrote it.

Aside from that, there had always been the chance that the writer wanted to remain anonymous. I'm sure she'll understand a fan wanting to know about if there's going to be a final story The first book was picked up, and the cover opened. It could have been anyone, anyone at all. For all she knew, she might even kowtow the author. In her mind, that would have mad it even more awesome. If she knew the author, they could swap ideas for the final part of the greatest series known to Equestria. That hope, however, died when the rainbow maned mare looked down to see a name that she had never seen before.

R. F. Tarp was the name that was on the cover of the book. For the life of her, that had to be a joke. There had to be something out there that caused her to see this wrong. Who had that sort of name? What did a tarp have to do with anything? Rainbow Dash thought about the names of all of her friends, thought about how ponies seemed to name their foals after something that had to do with them. Of all of the names in existence, this name didn't make any sense at all.

If anyone knows who this guy is, I'm sure Twilight will. She's just the egghead to go to for these sorts of things. I just gotta remember to stop calling her that around her. a breath was taken, and soon Rainbow Dash was speeding off toward the library. She had to know who this stallion, or possibly mare, was. There had to be a final chapter, everything had to be right with the world. Nothing could end in the way that it had, it just didn't make sense to The rainbow maned mare.

One more book, that's all she wanted.

By the time that she got to the library, her mind had become even more mono focused. There had been some ideas about how she wanted it to go, a few of which involved the final savior showing up to be somebody with a remarkably similar mane style to her own. Normally, she didn't think about inserting herself into fiction, but this was the moment when she could be the one that saved the day. She could be the one that saved Daring Do from the cliffhanger of the previous book.

She didn't even bother knocking, she opened the door and invited herself in. It wasn't a surprise to see Twilight putting up her books, re-shelving them to make sure that everything was right. It was kind of cute, the way that she had to have everything in the exact order, though it was also kind of scary. It was also not the reason why she was here, the real reason having to do with the book series that had ended a single book too soon. All she had to do was figure out who this person was.

"R. F. Tarp."

Twilight looked around, after setting up the last book, a confused look was on her face. "Actually, I'm Twilight."

"I know that. But I need to find him."

"Is this another one of your pranks?"

"No!" Almost out of nowhere, Rainbow Dash pulled out a copy of the first book of the series. She opened up the cover, and showed the name to Twilight. When she did, her book-loving friend responded with a shocked look. It was only there for a moment, Rainbow Dash didn't even notice it, and it was gone just as quickly. "I need to find him to say a few things. It would just be so awesome! But... the name doesn't make any sense. I have never heard of it before, other than these books."

"It could always be a pen name."

"A pen doesn't have a name, Twilight. Ponies do, other animals do, but pens do not have names." How did that even make any sense? Was her friend trying to play a prank on her? There had to be something that she could do, some way to get Twilight to help out with her search. When she looked back at her friend's face, though, the only thing she saw was a blank expression.

"A pen name is a false name for a writer, somepony who doesn't want to be famous."

That didn't make any sense to her. Rainbow Dash loved fame, loved the looks that she got when people recognized her name. Why would somepony not want to be famous? It must be some sort of writer thing. I guess somepony who wrote the Daring Do series would get a lot of fan letters if anypony knew their name. But maybe I can try to figure out who this pony is on my own. It might not be cool, but I just can't let it go now. I have to get that ending.

"Oh, that reminds me. The last book, number twenty five, came out recently. I just got my copy today, it's a book that's very high in demand."

I guess that's Twilight for you. I wonder if she stayed up all night reading it. I know I will... "Where it is?"

"Top shelf, third bookcase to the right of the door." A hood even pointed to it, to let her know which one it was. Twilight was smiling the entire time, knowing that the book would likely not be put down for a while. The lavender mare watched as her friend, who has seemingly forgot about her journey to figure out who the author was, flew off into the distance.

As she saw her friend fly off into the distance, her eyes moved to a few pieces of paper that had been left on the desk. "Can't let these stay here, can I?" On top of the paper, there were a few lines. It looked like the start to a new story. At the very top of the story, there were two letters and a word.

R. F. Tarp.
