Artificorn

S: In a world where cybernetic augmentation is as commonplace as the clothing industry, it was only a matter of time until somepony wanted to be an alicorn.

L: Celestia and Luna are gone. The day-night cycle is a thing barely remembered by the oldest of ponies, and the rest of ponykind accepts the perpetual dusk without question. Only one alicorn remains, and Twilight Sparkle has proved a fantastic princess. All of the trains run on time, the streets are clear of litter, and anypony who desires it can receive very affordable cybernetic augmentations. From earth pony to unicorn, from pegasus to hippocampus, there exist augments for basically everything.

Well, almost everything.

To become an alicorn is illegal. To even speak of such things is tantamount to treason. There are many for whom the thought of an 'artificorn', as they are called, is akin to sacrilege.

And today, in a small little aug-shop in District 225, one little unicorn decides to break the law.

There was a time when words like that seemed like inspiration, served to push them forward. There was an age where there were dreams still left to dream, mountains still to climb. But once you reach the top, where can you really go from there?

Somewhere in the not-distant-enough future, Twilight Sparkle and her friends are about to find out the answer to that question.

Short: At the end of the road, the Bearers of Harmony are faced with empty shells of their former lives.

The Fall of Blood Star

Twilight Sparkle's friends are all dead. She sets to work resurrecting them through forbidden black magic. The magic slowly turns her eyes red, and she forms the identity of Blood Star to try and separate herself from culpability for her actions.

Applejack is meant to be a bedsheet ghost clasping her hat in her hooves to identify herself, but a wardrobe malfunction backstage has left only her face hooded.

Pinkie has a physical form, but her mind seems very rattled, and the chains she wears seem to imply that something is trying to work against Blood Star from the other side.

Rarity's body gets dug up and her soul summoned into it, but strong hints are dropped that the soul inhabiting her body is not Rarity. She is the most vocal in her attempts to dissuade Blood Star.

Fluttershy is a fairly threadbare reanimation, barely more than a whisper of life hanging around in the pentagram. Most likely due to Blood Star being quite stressed during this particular summoning.

Rainbow Dash is pretty clearly a demon doing a poor masquerade.

The story's perspective never leaves the summoning circle. Offscreen, Twilight is falling under steadily more scrutiny for what she's done, especially from Celestia.

At the end, it is revealed that this was all a stage play put on for the yaks, written by yaks for yak audiences.

The Could-Have-Been Prince

S: In the days before a certain sound-light phenomenon, Celestia's personal student is a colt called Sunburst.

L: Over the centuries, many young unicorns have had the unquestionable honor of being the personal student of Princess Celestia. Of course, they were all ultimately surpassed by Princess Twilight Sparkle, but figures of ancient history can hardly be blamed for being succeeded by their descendants.

Except that not all of Celestia's students are ancient history. One of them still lives, and in fact can still remember the day when he was surpassed. He remembers how, for all of his achievements, he was left in the dust by a mere foal.

And to this day, he carries that memory with him.

One Night Only

The biggest night of Octavia's career is set to happen on the biggest night of her girlfriend's career, and also their anniversary.

Once a thousand years ago, the pony god of death witnessed a horde of ponies pouring into his domain on the night of Luna's madness.  The cries of sorrow from the living world were more than even he could bear, so that next day he broke the rules. For a single day and night, the dead could walk the earth.

Why the Princess of Friendship Can't Get a Cab

There's a lot about the great city of Manehattan that Twilight Sparkle doesn't know, most of which she just takes for granted. She always assumed it was just the same as Canterlot, except with less stuck-up aristocrats and more hard-working business ponies.

But while in town for the grand opening of Rarity for You, Twilight is reminded of one thing about Manehattan that no amount of comparisons to Canterlot can explain. She's one of five magical alicorn princesses, and she can't get a cab to even look at her.

What gives?
