Chapter 1: Material

"Oh, my, Rarity... you didn't have to go through all this trouble..."  Fluttershy looked in the mirror for the first time since Rarity began fitting the dress.  From Fluttershy's small smile Rarity knew she was pleased with the result.

"Nonsense, dear!  It was not any trouble at all.  Besides, look how marvelous you are!"

Fluttershy blushed and shifted positions so she could see the back of the dress better.  "I do look... nice."

"Nice?  You look positively stunning, dear!"  Rarity chuckled daintily.  "That may be as much you as it is my dress, but I'm still proud of my handiwork."

Fluttershy nodded.  "It's beautiful, Rarity.  Thank you."

Rarity began magically collecting the materials she had been using as she spoke.  "I'm so sorry that took so much time!  I did not realise how long it would take to fit that dress.  Still, though, the end result was worth, don't you agree?"

"Yes, Rarity, I love it."

"I'm so glad!  Now..."  Rarity froze in realization.  How long had it taken?  "Fluttershy, dear... what time is it?"

"Uhm... 8:25?"

Rarity's heart missed a beat.  "And... what day of the week is it?"

Fluttershy was thrown off by her odd question.  "Uh... Wednesday?"

"Oh sweet Celestia," Rarity spouted before regaining her composure.  "Ehem- I just remembered, Fluttershy... I have... I just realized that I have another appointment at 8:30!"

"That seems awfully late for a dress fitting," said Fluttershy as Rarity began pushing her out the door.

"Yes!  A dress fitting, I know, so late!  This is a... very odd customer... they... love getting fit at night!  I mean, no, not fit at night, not like that... I mean, yes, JUST a fitting at night."

"Are you... okay?" asked Fluttershy, nearly out the door.  "Should I... wear this dress home?"

"Yes, please, wear the dress home!  Show it off to everyone!  But run home quickly, dear.  Because... because the fabric needs to... to... breathe!  Yes, getting some oxygen in that fabric will do it some good, so... a nice lively pace home!"

"Oh... okay?"  Fluttershy took one more look at Rarity.  "Are you sure nothing is wrong?"

"Yes, dear, I just have to prepare!  Off you go, now!  Ta-ta!"  She slammed the door.  Fluttershy looked at the door for a few moments, shrugged, and then began running home at quite an uncharacteristic speed.

Rarity peeked between her curtains, watching Fluttershy run out of view.  She had finally let out her breath, relieved that she managed to get Fluttershy out of her house, when there was a knock on the back door.

She was here.

Rarity composed herself and walked through the house.  Getting to the back door, she used her magic to open the door.

And there was Rainbow Dash, wearing a sly smile.

“Come in, quickly!” said Rarity, glancing around.  She caught sight of Rainbow Dash’s dirty hooves.  “Wait, don’t come in!  Are you crazy?”

“What?” asked Rainbow Dash, confused.

“Your hooves are filthy, dear!  Wipe them off.”

Rainbow Dash looked around.  “On what?  You don’t have a mat back here, and you never let me come in through the front door.”

“Well, we can’t let anyone know about... our... little meetings!”

“You can say what it is, if you’d like.”  Rarity’s jaw dropped at the vulgar suggestion.  “And who the heck is watching your front door so carefully?”

Rarity huffed.  “I have many admirers, in both the professional and romantic worlds!  Who knows who could be watching.”

Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes.  “Well then what do you want me to do about these?” lifting her front hooves.

“I don’t know, just... how in Equestria do you get them so dirty, anyway?  Don’t you fly everywhere?”

“I have to land somewhere, Rarity.”

“Do you always choose the dirtiest places as your landings?!”

Rainbow Dash groaned.  “Look, what should I do?”

“You should...” There was a sound in the bushes out back.  “Quick, get inside, what are you waiting for?!”

“You won’t let me in!”

“Nevermind that, get inside!”

She hurried Rainbow Dash inside and shut the door behind her.  She looked relieved until she looked down at the floor.  “You’re leaving hoofprints!”

Rainbow Dash was getting a headache.  “Yes, the dirty hooves, remember?”

Rarity groaned.  “Don’t move, whatever you do.  Not an inch!”  She ran to the kitchen and got a wet cloth, suspending it in the air with magic.  She returned to her back door.

“Lift your a back hoof, please.”  Rainbow Dash obeyed with a sour look on her face.  The cloth wrapped itself around her leg and began to clean.  “My goodness, how do you let yourself get so dirty all the time?”

“I guess, unlike some ponies I know, I actually go outside.  Where there’s dirt.”

Rarity looked indignant at the suggestion.  “I go outside plenty, thank you very much.  I just don’t jump in dirt piles all day, which is apparently what you do.  Other hoof, please!”

Rainbow Dash dropped her sparkling clean foot and lifted her back right one.  The cloth magically continued its work.  “You just go outside to get from place to place.  I go outside to, you know, actually be outside.”

“I do that as well!”

“Like hell you do.”

“I do!  A front hoof, please.”  The cleaning continued.

“Nah, you like staying inside all day.  You’re a little... dainty for the outdoors.”

“I am not!”  She got right in Rainbow Dash’s face.  “Stop that this instant.  Just because I am a lady and like being clean does not mean I dislike the outdoors.”

Rainbow Dash snorted, smile on her face.  She was glad to bug Rarity.  “Whatever you say, Rarity.”

The cloth dropped to the floor.  Rarity looked furious.  “Ooh, you come in here and trek your filthy hooves around my beautiful house and make fun of me?  Ooh, you... you brute!  You... troglodyte!  You... you unfeeling, unthinking jock!  You... you... animal, kiss me right this instant!!”

And with that, Rarity pressed her lips hard against a completely confused Rainbow Dash.

This had been going on for a few weeks now.  Rarity made Rainbow Dash come over every wednesday at 8:30 (not 8:29, not 8:31, but 8:30, Rarity had told her).  She would come over, they would start bickering for some reason or another, and then suddenly Rarity would jump her.  Rainbow Dash had no idea why Rarity had suddenly become so attracted to her, but Rarity was arguably one of the hottest mares in Equestria, so Rainbow Dash wasn’t going to question it.

Still, the whole process disoriented her.  It seemed like the more she bugged Rarity the more she turned the mare on.

The only pony that this confused more than Rainbow Dash was Rarity.  As she pressed herself against Rainbow Dash, she could not help but wonder what the hell she was doing.  Rainbow Dash was strong and attractive, anyone could admit that.  But it was when she was acting her worst that suddenly Rarity found her irresistible.

Just as Rainbow Dash was beginning to enjoy the kiss, Rarity suddenly broke it off and slapped Rainbow Dash hard across the face with a hoof and turned towards the living room.

“Ow!  What the hell was that for?”

Rarity looked back over her shoulder at Rainbow Dash.  “I don’t know,” she said simply.  She had no why Rainbow Dash made her act the way she did.

Rainbow Dash took a moment to take her in from behind.  The worst part, she thought, was that Rarity knew exactly how hot she was.  Rainbow Dash was willing to put up with all the craziness if it meant amazing sex at the end of the night.

Rarity walked through the door.  Rainbow Dash cautiously followed.  Wednesday nights were never boring, at least.

When Rainbow Dash entered her living room, Rarity gestured for Rainbow Dash to sit on a couch.

“Would you like some tea, dear?” asked Rarity, with strange, forced composure.

Rainbow Dash froze as she was about to sit.  “Rarity... don’t.”

Rarity looked at her oddly.  “Whatever do you mean?”

“Rarity, please, don’t do it again.”

“Do what again, dear?”

“Rarity, you’ve broken like three of your nice tea sets.  They look really expensive!”

Rarity shot a look at Rainbow Dash.  “Rainbow Dash.  Would.  You.  Like.  Tea?”

Rainbow Dash sighed, put a hoof on her forehead, readying herself for what was to come.  If she played along with her, she would get sex, which was why she was here in the first place.  “Yeah, sure.  Tea.”

Rarity went to the kitchen and returned fairly quickly with a tea set.  Unusually fast.  Rainbow Dash wondered if she just had tea ready to go in her kitchen.

She placed the tea set on the table between them, and gently poured them each a cup.  Rarity’s cup magically lifted with her saucer, she gently took a sip, and gave Rainbow Dash a tiny smile.

Rainbow Dash looked down in horror at her own cup.  Here we go again, she thought.

“Any cream or sugar?” asked Rarity innocently.

“Sugar, I guess,” said Rainbow Dash, and watched as two lumps magically dropped in her tea.

She bent her head down to pick up the cup with her mouth.  As soon as she touched the cup, Rarity chided her.

“Not with your teeth, dear!  You’ll scratch the cup.”  Rarity tutted.  “You must use your lips to lift the cup.”

Rainbow Dash did her best to lift the delicate cup gently with her lips, enviously watching Rarity’s cup simply float in the air.

“Do not drink it so fast!  Ladies drink slowly and with grace.”

In response, Rainbow Dash finished her tea in one gulp, gave Rarity a big smile with the cup still in her mouth, and put it back on its saucer noisily.

“There,” said Rainbow Dash, her voice flat, “How was that.”

“Terrible,” replied Rarity, sipping her tea delicately, refilling the cup across from her.  “Try again.”

“Rarity...” Rainbow Dash growled.

“You really must learn to be more of a lady, Rainbow Dash!  Come, now.  Have another cup.  It’s quite good, yes?”

Rainbow Dash looked as if she would stab the white and purple mare, but instead, craned down her head.  Instead of picking up the tea cup this time, much to Rarity’s horror, she began lapping it like a dog.

“Mm,” said Rainbow Dash between laps, “You’re right!  This is very good.”

“Stop that this instant, Rainbow Dash!”

Rainbow Dash stuck her nose in the tea.  “It smells so good too.”

Rarity was becoming very flustered as Rainbow Dash blew bubbles with her nose.  “Rainbow Dash, don’t be disgusting!”

She reached her head over and bit a sugar cube between her teeth.  “Sometimes I like to just eat the sugar,” she explained casually, “and then the tea next.”  She bit the cup and drank it in one gulp.  “Much easier that way!” she said after putting it down.

Rarity looked shocked.  “How terribly uncouth you’re acting!  So uncivilized!  You... you are absolutely the most rude, unladylike pony in Equestria!”

She suddenly flung a front leg across the table, flinging the tea set across the room.  It crashed on the wall, destroyed.  “I must have you!”  She jumped across the table and onto an utterly befuddled Rainbow Dash, giving her another deep kiss.  No matter how many times this exact scenario had happened, Rainbow Dash would never get used to it.

Rarity broke the kiss and slapped Rainbow Dash again.

“Rarity, that really bucking hu-”

Rarity cut her off by kissing her again.  When she broke off the kiss once more, this time Rainbow Dash was prepared.

“Wait, wait wait Rarity, wait!”  Rarity’s hoof stopped mid air.

“Yes, dear?” she asked innocently.

“Rarity... what the buck are we doing?”

Rarity blinked.  “We’re having tea, dear,” she replied, as if it were the silliest question in the world.

“Rarity, snap out of it!”  The slapping was a new addition to their routine, and the last straw.  “Every week I come here, we fight, we break a tea set, we go upstairs and have Equestria shattering sex, but we never talk about it.”

“Oh please,” begged Rarity seductively, leaning into Rainbow Dash, “let’s not talk about it, let’s just go upstairs and-”

“Rarity.”

“I’ll do that thing you like with my tail!”

“Rarity!”  Rainbow Dash’s tone was final.

Rarity looked Rainbow Dash up and down once, and sighed.  “Yes... I... I suppose we should talk about it.”  She got off her cyan friend and sat next to her.

There was an awkward pause before Rainbow Dash said anything.  “So.  What the hell?  Every time I come over you act insane.  What gives?”

Rarity sighed again.  “I don’t know, Rainbow Dash, I simply do not know.  You are very beautiful, there’s no doubt about that.  But that’s not why I’m so attracted to you.  When we start arguing I just... I just lose it, I can’t control myself!  I want to... ‘jump your bones,’ as it t’were.”

“Yeah, I noticed the first time we hooked up.”

“That was... quite an evening.”

They had hooked up after a particularly bad fight.  Rainbow Dash had pushed Fluttershy a little too hard, causing her to cry and run home from Rarity’s boutique.  Rarity tried to give Rainbow Dash a lecture on tact, but the conversation ended up exploding into an argument.  Somewhere at the climax of their anger they suddenly were on top of each other, kissing.  It wasn’t clear who started it.  They had destroyed half of the boutique, rolling over each other.

It was a good night.

The morning after it, Rarity had insisted that Rainbow Dash come over every week, and Rainbow Dash agreed without hesitation.  She would have been okay with coming over every day, considering how amazing it had been.

“Rarity... what are we?  I mean, you clearly don’t want anyone finding out about us, so... just mares with benefits?”

“Yes, I suppose.  But I suppose I should clear the proverbial air- I don’t want you to think I'm ashamed of being attracted to girls, or you, I just... I just don't want everyone to know I'm having lots of casual sex with one of my close friends.  Plus, I’ve found that... that I absolutely love sneaking around.”

Rainbow Dash chuckled knowingly.  “Yeah, it’s kinda hot.”

Rarity looked at Rainbow Dash, concerned.  “But, dear... do you want to... be something more?”

Rainbow Dash paused before answering, deciding what to say.  She decided on the truth.  “No, not at all.  I can’t stand you for very long periods of time.”

“Oh thank goodness! Yes, we would be absolutely dreadful pair.”

“We sure would.”

“I have to admit, I was a little afraid you were going to say you wanted to date!”

Rainbow Dash laughed.  “No way!”

“Yes, our personalities are simply horrid for each other.  We just... have fantastic sex.  That is just something we have to deal with.”

“Good, I’m glad we’re on the same page.”

“Yes.”  Rarity laughed.  “Can you imagine, us, dating?  Me taking you to fancy dinners, you taking me to see the Wonderbolts?”

Rainbow Dash huffed and shook her head.  “I hate fancy dinners.”

“And I hate watching air shows!”  From the look on Rainbow Dash’s face, this statement was a step too far.  “What?  I almost died at one!  I think I’m entitled to dislike them a bit.”  Rarity’s tone softened.  “You saved my life that day, Rainbow Dash.  I know I thanked you then, but... I’ll never forget that.”

Rainbow Dash smiled warmly.  “I wasn’t going to let you hit the ground.  You were safe the whole time.”

“I’m glad it seemed that way to you, because I felt like I was awfully close to the ground.”

Rainbow Dash gently put a hoof on Rarity’s leg.  “I had you.  Besides, I should be thanking you!  If you hadn’t fallen that day, I might not have ever done another sonic rainboom.  So, I guess I owe you, too.”

Rarity chuckled and blushed.  “Yes, I suppose that’s true...”  She suddenly froze as she realized what was happening.  “Oh Celestia.”

“What?” asked Rainbow Dash, wondering what could be setting Rarity off again.

“You, you’re... you’re acting charming!  You’re making me blush!  You seem like dating material right now!”  She said the words as if she was saying ‘a foal murderer.’

Rainbow Dash whipped her hoof away when she realized what she was doing.  “Rarity, you can’t think like that.  I’m not dating material.”

Rarity looked her up and down, confused.  “Yes, of course not, I know that... but... what if you are?”

“You’re crazy, Rarity!  We just went over how stupid that would be.”

Rarity looked at her seriously.  “What if we’re both wrong?  Sure, we bicker, but who doesn’t?  We have amazing sex, so clearly there is some chemistry here.  We’ve been friends for years without problems!  What if maybe, just maybe...”

Rainbow Dash was backing off the couch, nervous.  “Alright, hold on Rarity, let’s think about this for a moment.”

Rarity paused, and then shook her head.  “No, you’re right.  You’re right, of course!  We should just stay... mares with benefits.  That makes the most sense.”  Rarity laughed uncomfortably.  “Come back to the couch, dear.  I didn’t mean to scare you off.”

Rainbow Dash did so carefully, keeping her eyes on Rarity.  “I’m sorry,” said Rainbow Dash, “I didn’t mean to ruin the night by making us talk.”

“No, dear, it was about time we discussed what this was all about.  I’m glad we now know we’re just mares with benefits!”

Rainbow Dash let out a breath of air.  “I’m glad we’re back on the same page.”  They looked at each other, not sure what to do.  “Ahah, I guess I kinda ruined the mood!”

“Nonsense, dear.  You did no such thing.  We just need something to get the spark back!  I’ve been working on something that I think will work nicely.”  She got up, and walked up the stairs.  “You just sit right there, I’ll be right back.”  With that, Rarity disappeared.

Rainbow Dash chuckled to herself about Rarity’s moment of insanity.  Them, dating?  Rainbow Dash was confident it would never work out!  They had almost nothing in common, and barely got along.  How could it ever work out?  Rainbow Dash shook her head.  The only thing that connected the two of them was some amazing sex.

“I heard you wanted to join our team, Rainbow Dash,” said Rarity at the top of the stairs.  When Rainbow Dash turned to look, her jaw dropped.

Rarity had donned a Wonderbolt outfit, except that it clearly wasn’t their usual uniform.  Rarity had made one herself, and it was cut in all the right places and in all the right ways to make her look absolutely stunning.  Little goggles even hung around her neck.

She walked down the stairs slowly and seductively as she spoke.  “I hear you’re fast and strong.  I hear you’re the best flyer around, but if you want to join the team you’ve got to prove it to me.  By keeping up with me.”  She walked over until she was on top of Rainbow Dash again.  “So, think you can go a couple rounds with me?”

Rainbow Dash had never been more turned on in her life.  “Rarity...”

Rarity cocked her head quizzically at Rainbow Dash’s look.  “What?  Too much?”  She looked down at her outfit.  “I thought I got it all right.  Oh, I’m sorry darling, I thought you were going to love this!”

“No, Rarity... this is the hottest thing anyone has ever done for me!”

“Then what’s the problem?”  Rarity’s head cocked again.

“Did you make this?  For me?”

“Of course, dear.”

Rainbow Dash groaned.

Rarity looked absolutely lost.  “Why are you groaning?”

“Because you know when a pony does something like this for you, you know what they are?”  Rarity shook her head.  “Dating Material.”

Now Rarity was the one who looked frightened.  “Now, Rainbow Dash, we just agreed that we were just mares with benefits!”

“I know, I know, but...”  Rainbow Dash swallowed at the words about to come.  “What if it could work?”

Rarity bit her lip.  “You really want to try?”

Rainbow Dash wondered if she would regret her choice.  “Well, what’s the harm in trying one date?  Just... just one.”

"One?"

"We'll go to dinner and a show.  If it goes horribly, and we argue the whole time, then we can come here and work out all that passion with sex, like we do anyway.  If it goes really well, and we are totally into each other, then we can come here and have sex.  There's really no risk here.  It makes more sense, the more I think about it."

Rarity looked at her thoughtfully.  "Okay... okay!  I'll... let's try!"

They kissed gently for the first time.  They looked at each other oddly, not used to the gentle peck they just shared.  They laughed, and Rainbow Dash said, "This is never going to work out."

They lived happily ever after.

The End.

Ha... well, a little more sexual than my last one.  I wrote it for fun, just to keep me busy until my next bigger story shapes up.  Also, I hope nobody minds my replacing the canon Tartarus with hell.  It just... sounds so much better.

Tell me what you thought!
