A villainous return
It was a bright and sunny day on Sodor, with all of Sir Topham Hatt's engines hard at work. Twilight Sparkle, now an experienced engine driver like her adoptive brother Spike, whom was at home at the time, was in Thomas's cab, the both of them laughing and bashing trucks in the yard. The trucks let out shouts of protest, their eyes spinning around. "Ow! Watch it, Thomas!" One cried. Thomas chuckled nervously. For some of the engines, the trucks behaved. Thomas heard a whistle and saw James and Rarity pulling passenger train into Knapford. Thomas blew his whistle to James, who whistled in reply. Twilight waved to Rarity, who smiled and waved back.
"Sure is a grand day, huh Twily?" Thomas asked. Twilight giggled.
"Sure is, Thomas." She agreed. "Sunny, high of 72 degrees, no clouds. Perfect, sunny day." She smiled. Thomas laughed and reversed down the siding to let Gordon and Rainbow Dash through with the express. They waved and whistled as they thundered by. Thomas whistled back to Gordon. "Besides, work is getting done right on time, just like Sir Topham Hatt asked." Twilight added. Thomas chuckled and sighed. "What is it?" Twilight asked.
"Hmm?" Thomas replied. "Oh, nothing. Just thinking." Thomas said. Twilight was skeptical.
"Uh huh, you're thinking about Lady again, aren't you?" She asked. Thomas's cheeks flushed a bright red.
"What? No!" He exclaimed in protest. "Besides, Lady has responsibilities on the Magic Railroad." He added. Twilight let out a small giggle.
"Someone's got a crush." She teased. Thomas scoffed and wheeshed steam in Twilight's face, fogging up her glasses. "Thomas!" She cried. She sighed as she wiped the fog from her glasses.
"Oops." Thomas said. "Sorry, Twilight." He apologized. Twilight sighed.
"It's fine. I was like that when I had a crush on Flash." She admitted. "Right now, he's out doing his song career." She smiled. Then, a high pitched whistle pierced the air, and a dark blue Fowler 4F locomotive with a 0-6-0 wheel configuration chugged into the junction, his smile bright and beaming.
"Well, hello, John." Thomas smiled. I smiled back.
"Hello, Thomas." I replied. "Hello, Twilight." I said to the both of them. Twilight smiled back in reply. "Lovely weather today, huh?" I asked. Twilight nodded. The signal flipped green. "I'd hate to cut the chat short guys, but I've got a goods train to collect. See ya at the sheds!" I called as I chuffed away, blowing my whistle. Thomas blew his back in reply and chuffed down the junction through the station to collect Annie and Clarabel. I backed down my train slowly, stopping to where the guard could easily couple the train up to me. My driver, Quillton, looked behind him to see the guard give him a thumbs up.
"All clear, buddy." He told me. I blew my whistle and began to chuff away, pulling my train of mixed freight. As we were travelling along the line, I noticed an old line leading to an abandoned tunnel.
"Wonder what's down that tunnel." I wondered. Quill shrugged.
"Who knows?" He asked. "Could be another entrance to the Magic Railroad." He guessed. Sadly, it wasn't. Inside the tunnel was an olive green class 42 warship diesel, with a dark brown hydraulic claw. His eyes snapped open, his face twisting into a sneer of hate. His claw chomped loudly, causing me to jump and apply my brakes. Quill was startled and jumped.
"What in Sodor's name was that?!" I shouted, my eyes darting around. We glanced around for about another minute when a flash of ovlive green thundered by us, his claw chomping furiously. My eyes widened in fear. "Quill." I said finally, swallowing. "Please tell me that wasn't who I thought it was." I gulped. Quillton gulped as well.
"John, let's hope it wasn't." He told me. I hoped as well. Whoever that was, his color and shape were all too familiar. Thomas had told me about a very engine like that. His name I didn't want to say, because it brought fear into every single engine on Sodor. You want to know his name? Well, his name is......Diesel 10, meanest of the mean, baddest of the bad, and the most evil and psychotic monster to ever roam on the Isle of Sodor, and I was positive that he just thundered by me and Quillton, back for revenge.
A magical assignment
Later that night, me and Quillton were telling the other engines about what we saw. Emily gulped. "I sure hope he doesn't come back." She shivered. "He's already caused Sodor enough trouble, especially Thomas." She said. I sighed.
"Well, Em, we'll just have to wait and see." I told her. Gordon scoffed.
"Puh-lease! I could take that big brute on any day of the week!" He boasted.
"Even though, technically, his claw can peel the metal right off of you?" Edward smirked. Gordon spluttered and groaned. Edward laughed. "Thought so, big guy." He chuckled. Gordon rolled his eyes.
"I'd still do it, if he didn't have that meddlesome claw of his!" Gordon growled. Then, he looked in the empty shed next to him. "Hey, anyone seen Thomas?" He asked. Twilight shook her head.
"He said he needed some alone time, so he went to go find a shed to sleep in alone." She told us. I sighed.
"I worry about him." I admitted. "Last of his kind, the E2's. Must be hard on him." I said sympathetically. "Imagine how much stress he must go through, knowing one day he might be, well...." I didn't know how to finish my sentence.
"Put down." James finished for me. "No problem." He said. "Anyways, I'm still curious as to why the bleeding hell Diesel 10 is doing back on the Island. I mean, didn't the fat man send him away after that little stunt he pulled?" He asked. Rainbow shook her head.
"If I ever come face to face with that big meanie, I'll show him you don't mess with my friends!" She yelled. Gordon sighed.
"Rainbow, you do know his claw can literally squash you like a pancake, right?" He raised an eyebrow. Rainbow chuckled nervously.
"I...I knew that." She lied. Truthfully, she didn't. Meanwhile, Thomas was sleeping in a shed in a siding on the mainline. After dozing off, he entered his dream world. This time, he was on the Magic Railroad.
"Hello?" He asked, his voice echoing. He heard a faint, beautiful whistle. Thomas knew that whistle. He chuffed forward until he went through a pair of buffers, and their, in front of him, beautiful as ever, was Lady. She smiled when she saw him.
"Hello, Thomas." She said in her beautiful and elegant voice. Thomas blushed lightly.
"Hello, Lady." He said nervously. Lady giggled, then her face returned to a serious expression.
"I feel an old foe returning, Thomas." She said. "Diesel is coming back for revenge, against you, and me. Thomas, I rarely ask you for stuff, but I need your help. I can't stop him alone. Please, you once helped me before. Help me again, please." Lady pleaded. Thomas's face made a determined smiled.
"Since when has this little engine ever said no to helping?" He said. Lady smiled.
"Thank you, Thomas. I knew I could count on you." She said. "I'll be arriving tomorrow. Meet me at the buffers around dawn." Lady told him. Thomas agreed, and soon, his eyes snapped open. It was nearly dawn, and Thomas chuffed silently to the entrance to the Magic Railroad. Two class 08's were parked in a siding, watching. Both of them were a grayish color with hazardous green stripes. One had a goatee, and the other did not. They sneered in disgust.
"Oh great, it's that puffball." The one on the right said. The other rolled his eyes. "What, 'Arry?" His twin asked. 'Arry, the diesel on the left, just sighed.
"Oh keep your trap shut, Bert." 'Arry snapped. "He's obviously here for something, so we're gonna find out what and report it to the boss." He told his twin. Bert rolled his eyes and watched. Then, the buffers glowed a gold color, and Lady chugged through, stopping just in front of Thomas. The two diesel twins let their jaws drop in shock. They revved their engines and scattered away in a hurry. Lady was confused.
"What is it?" Thomas asked as he turned around on the new turntable that was put in place. He puffed up next to Lady, his eyes darting around.
"I thought I just saw..." Lady said. She sighed. "Never mind. Let's go." She smiled. Thomas smiled and chuffed next to her all the way back to the sheds, where me and the others were still asleep. Thomas told Lady to be very quiet as they chuffed around the sheds. Lady bit her lower lip as she chuffed quietly past Percy, who was smiling in his sleep. The duo managed to slip into a freight shed and remained silent. My eyes fluttered open. I yawned and chuffed out onto the turntable, where Thomas and Lady were in clear view of me as I turned around. Thomas groaned as I spotted them. I silently rolled up to them, surprised.
"Thomas!" I whispered in an annoyed tone. "What the bloody hell is Lady doing on Sodor?" I asked. Lady smiled nervously. Thomas sighed.
"That's what I need to talk to you guys about." He told me.
Diesel 10's Ambush
A few hours later, when the others were up, Thomas told us all about Lady giving him the assignment to protect her from Diesel. Even Sir Topham Hatt was here with Ms. Celestia and her sister Luna. "Well, Thomas, I admire your bravery and boldness to protect a fellow engine." Sir Topham Hatt told him. "Lady will have to stay here at the sheds, however. She'll be safe here with Toby, Edward, and Henry." He said. James and Gordon groaned in frustration. They wanted to be the ones to look after Lady. Lady agreed.
"Yes, sir." She said. "I feel more comfortable around Toby, Edward, and Henry. Mainly because they helped me once before, and that was before I even knew Thomas." She giggled. Edward smiled.
"It's an honor to help out, Lady." He told her. Lady smiled at him. Meanwhile, at the Sodor Scrapyards, Diesel 10 was having his engine repaired after it being damaged a while ago. Sparks fizzed as workers mended the broken parts. His claw snapped furiously.
"Ow!" He cried out. "Watch it, you idiot!" He snapped at a worker, who chuckled nervously. Two horns got his attention, belonging to "Arry and Bert as they rolled into the Shed. Diesel gave them a plain look, waiting for the news they had. "Well?" He asked them. "What is it?" He demanded. 'Arry's eyes darted away, glancing at a scrapped E2. Sweat rolled down on Bert's face, until he couldn't take it anymore.
"Lady's back on Sodor!" He spluttered out. He sighed a relieved sigh as he did, but his face twisted in fear as Diesel's face twisted into a look of pure, unbridled aggression as his claw snapped furiously, almost knocking a worker off of his ladder. He let out a yelp of surprise as this happened. The noise also startled Devious Diesel, who woke with a start. Diesel 10 had finished his anger tantrum, and gave the two twins each a look of anger.
"So, the lost engine's back, huh?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. 'Arry and Bert gave him scared looks. He cackled. "Perfect. About time, too." He laughed. Diesel rolled up.
"Anything you want me to do?" He asked. Diesel 10 looked at him.
"Yes, Diesel. There is. I need you to find her and bring her to me. I'd do it myself, but with my engine the way it is....." He said. His engine spluttered, and died again. "I was lucky enough to get here two nights ago with the condition it was in." He added. Diesel blew his horn and rolled out of the shed. "Now, let's move on to the next phase." Diesel 10 smirked. 'Arry and Bert gulped. Meanwhile, I was carrying the Branchline Express when Diesel shot right by me in a hurry.
"Slow down, you oily diesel!" I yelled at him. He paid no attention and kept on driving. "Wonder where he's off to in such a hurry." I wondered as I approached the station. I let off steam and my passengers got off, all of them happy and pleasant. I was good with passengers. I knew how to get to my destination on time, yet still give them an enjoyable ride. Not many engines were like that. There were two others. Thomas and Edward. Rainbow Dash was on the platform. "Hello, Dashie." I said. I saw she was with the Wonderbolts. "Need a ride to Knapford?" I asked her.
"Oh yes, please. Gordon should be there. He's taking us to our soccer game." She told me. I blew my whistle and the Wonderbolts all got in my two coaches. The guard waved his green flag and I steamed out of the station slowly, gradually picking up speed. Quillton shoveled coal into my firebox. Soon I arrived at Knapford, with Gordon and the express waiting. "Come on, girls, we got a game to win!" Rainbow called to her team. They all cheered and flooded into Gordon's coaches. He blew his whistle and set off, whistling to me. I whistled in reply. At the sheds, Lady was dozing off comfortable, with Henry, Edward, and Toby all chuffing around the sheds looking for any immediate signs of trouble.
"Well, that's strange." Toby said. "It's quiet. Too quiet." He added as his eyes darted left and right. Then, the trio heard a familiar diesel horn. Edward gasped.
"Crap, it's Diesel. Hide Lady!" He wheeshed at Henry and Toby, who scrambled to find cars to hide Lady behind. Diesel rolled on to the turntable, spun around looking, and just made an 'I don't know' expression. His driver poked his head out. It was Chrysalis. She looked around and shrugged. The engines remained silent until the duo rolled away. Henry sighed.
"Phew. That was close." He said, Toby and Edward agreed. Then, suddenly, a deep horn pierced the air, along with a furious clanking of metal. The trio gasped as Diesel 10 rolled into Tidmouth Sheds, his claw chomping furiously. "It's.....Diesel...10." Henry spluttered.
"He's actually back?!" Toby spluttered in fear. Diesel let out a cackle as he spotted the trio. His claw clanked in their direction. 'Arry, Bert, and Andy buffered up behind them, causing them to jump.
"Now that I have you three, tell me. Where is the lost engine?!" Diesel demanded as he rolled up in front of Edward. Lady was awake, hiding behind cars. She was scared. Oh Thomas, please help. She prayed silently. Diesel's eyes darted to the line of freight cars. "Those cars seem too organized to be placed there randomly. Almost makes you wonder if someone's trying to hide something." He smirked. "D199, Splatter, Dodge! Search the sidings!" He barked. 199 and the two twins began removing the cars. Then, just as Splatter was about to move the car in front of Lady, she surged forward, causing him to gasp and move into the next siding, giving her clearance to chuff away. "After her!!" Diesel 10 ordered. Diesel, 199, and Shark ran after her, their wheels pumping furiously against the rails.
Chasing Lady
"Come on, you turkeys!" Shark yelled. He was a class 04 shunter with a 0-6-0 wheel arrangement, painted in a black and dark green color. He blared his horn. Diesel picked up speed, along with 199. Lady chuffed furiously, but she knew she couldn't outrun the three diesels. So, she decided to out-smart them. Lady stopped abruptly just as Diesel thundered by her.
"What the!" He exclaimed as he darted into a siding of oil wagons. "Oh no!" He shut his eyes as he crashed into them, oil spilling all over him. He was off the rails as well. He opened his eyes and groaned in defeat. Lady giggled and continued chuffing. Shark growled as he sped after her, 199 right behind him. Shark revved his engine, gaining speed on Lady. He growled a wicked look, his jagged teeth showing, hence how he got his name, Shark.
"Come on, boys!" Lady said in a seductive tone. "Try to catch me!" She giggled as she chuffed faster. This angered Shark, causing him to go faster until he was directly beside her. She gasped. Shark backed off to switch onto her track, and picked up speed again. Lady gulped.
"Got you now!" 199 laughed as he switched in front of her. She was boxed in until she diverted onto another track which led right to Thomas's branchline. The two diesels stopped, growling in frustration. "She's on the branchline now! It can't support my weight!" 199 whined.
"Oh for the love of....!" Shark groaned as he switched onto the branchline after Lady. "Wuss." He muttered to 199 as he drove after Lady. Meanwhile, further up the line, Thomas was just shunting his coaches when he heard Lady's whistle.
"What on Sodor is going on?" He asked himself. Twilight poked her head out of his cab to see Lady thunder by them, followed by Shark. Thomas's eyes darted to a turntable, then to the signal box. "Sir!" He called to the guard. The guard nodded and switched the points to the turntable. Thomas rolled on, was turned around, and chased after Shark, his wheels pumping furiously against the rails. Twilight was shoveling coal into his firebox to make him go faster. Shark heard Thomas's whistle.
"Oh, not that blue idiot!" He groaned as he gained more speed, just inches away from Lady. I was further up the line when they passed me. Quillton and I looked at each other and he shoveled coal into my firebox, which made me pick up speed. Shark gasped in shock as he saw me pulled up next to him. "What the! Another one?!" He yelped just as Thomas rolled up next to him, the two of us boxing him in. Lady smiled and switched into a siding just as me and Thomas diverted Shark into a parked train of fuel tankers, backing away at the last few seconds before the tankers went up, taking Shark with them. Thomas went back to the siding Lady was in. Me and Quillton stared at Shark's flaming wreckage.
"Well, he's scrap now." I said. Quill nodded. Then, 199 pulled up in front of me, causing me to yelp. He growled.
"Oh, you just made a big mistake, puffball." He told me. Thomas was guarding Lady, who was still shivering. "Diesel 10 is on his way, and he is extremely pissed." 199 told us. Thomas's face turned white in horror, so did Lady's.
"Die......Dies....Diesel....10?!!!!!" They spluttered in unison. 199 smirked. A horn blared through the air, and Diesel 10 rolled up beside him, his expression angered. Lady made a small squeak and ducked back behind the bushes covering the siding. Diesel's claw clanked.
"Hello, again, Lost Engine." He laughed. "Ah, the Puffball's here, too." He said. Thomas sneered at him. Diesel 10 looked at Shark's scrapped remains. "I see Shark is no more." He inquired. Twilight nodded.
"That's right, you big meanie!" She yelled. Then, suddenly, she yelped as Diesel's claw plucked her off the ground from the waist up. She pounded her fists on the claw, which only tightened. Thomas, me, Lady, and Quillton all gasped. Thomas chuffed forward an inch, only to be stopped by Diesel.
"Ah ah, one move, and little Ms. Smartypants here dies." He smirked. Thomas backed away. "Good move, Puffball. Now, the Lost Engine, if you please." Diesel demanded. Thomas looked at Lady, then Diesel.
"I'd rather be scrapped than hand her over to you." He said. Lady looked at him. "You might not see it, Diesel, but when I look at Lady, I don't see just beauty and power, I see a very special and talented engine, who works her hardest to keep her railroad maintained. I might be sounding like Sir Topham Hatt here, but she's responsible, reliable, and really useful. That's what it takes to get the job done here on Sodor." Thomas said. Lady was shocked. Never in her life had she thought Thomas would say that. It gave her hope, and she smiled, her cheeks turning a light red. Diesel rolled his eyes.
"Very well." He said. Thomas gasped as Andy hooked up to him. "You'd rather be scrapped? Take him to the Scrapyards and shunt him in the Smelter's shed! I'll deal with him there." Diesel laughed, dropping Twilight. She landed on her sneakers, scrambling over to me. All me and Quillton could do was watch in horror as the diesels took Thomas to the Scrapyards. Lady let a tear fall down her face, upset, angered, scared, worried, and most of all, frightened.
