The small rocky valley sat quietly as the night sky loomed overhead with very faint sounds of wings flapping. Two figures emerged from from the dug out ditch sitting in the center. The moonlight began to shift from behind some small clouds revealing Rarity and Spike who had attended the Dragon Migration alone this year. Spike began digging inside a satchel, fishing out a handful of small gems for a late night snack. “So why exactly couldn’t anyone else come? I mean it’s not like I don’t like just the two of us, I love it actually but..”

Rarity just giggled at Spike who’s face, filled to the brim with jewels, was cherry red. “You are adorable darling, you really are. Remember, the map sent them off on a mission of friendship a few days ago. They won’t be back for a while. But I do wish they had been here, this year’s Dragon Migration was simply divine.”

Spike lowered his head to the ground, a look of sorrow upon his face. “Still, compared to all these dragons, i’m still a kid huh?”

Rarity hugged him tight. “Deary, you may be a kid but you’re the most adorable kid ever. I’m simply going to dread the day you grow up.”

Spike put a smile back on and hugged her back. “Uh..well...thanks Rarity.”

They started walking back towards Ponyville when suddenly, another dragon flew overhead looking as if it had something in it’s claws. Spike examined the dragon for a mere moment and went into action. “Rarity move!”

He tackled her out of the way as a gigantic jewel impacted the ground where they just were. Rarity stood up in a daze. “What in blazes was that?” Spike pointed to the jewel that seemingly dropped out of the sky. “Where did that come from?”

He motioned her gaze towards the overhead dragon. “As far as Twilight told me, sometimes the dragons drop some jewels as they migrate.”

Rarity's eyes widened at the thought. “You mean they just drop them, just like that?”

Spike nodded. “Yea they pile them near places they think they can make a home. You may even run across some unusual rare jewels, or at least that’s what Twilight said.”

Rarity grabbed Spike by his shoulders and pulled him in close. “That’s simply amazing, we must journey out tomorrow morning and collect every single jewel that we come across!”

Spike laughed. “Well it would probably be better if we went now. The one thing I learned through experience is that dragons love what they collect and will come back for them.”

Rarity put Spike on her back and took off. “There’s no time we have to hurry!”

Spike struggled to hang on as she galloped down the dirt road, grabbing her mane as he bounced up and down. “Rarity slow down!”

She quickly entered Ponyville and within mere seconds, arrived in front of her boutique. “Wait here dear while I collect the the things we need.”

Spike nodded as she went inside. Spike started to impatiently pace back and forth. "Rarity really wants those jewels doesn’t she. Maybe if I gave her one that out shined all the other jewels, she’d finally see how I feel about her. No way...is there even a jewel that compares to how beautiful she is? What are you thinking Spike, just get your head in the game, you can do this."

“Who are you talking to dear?”

Spike spun around to see Rarity standing there, bags draped around her body. “Um...nobody really..just..are we going to get those jewels or what?”

“You’re right!”

Rarity magically picked him up and put him on her back, galloping off into their usual jewel collecting grounds. As they arrived, Rarity removed two lamps from her bag, inside were two purple transparent balls. She stuck her horn inside and lit up her horn with magic. The sphere’s began glowing with intense light. She handed one to Spike who examined it further. “I’ve never seen a lamp like this.”

“A little present from Twilight. Apparently, they can be turned on and off with magic.”

Spike put the lamp at his side, waiting to start the jewel hunt. “Twilight sure does help out a lot around here….”

Rarity motioned him to follow along searching every crack and hole they found. Finally after twenty minutes, something turned up. Rarity shined the light around oddly colored spot on the ground, red instead of the usual brown. “Spike, would you be ever so kind deary?”

Spike happily nodded and started digging. Upon digging out the gem, it looked as if it were just red but with more work, it was revealed to be a small gem, only about 15 cm in length and 3 in in width. And had it not been for this, it would have been considered a common jewel. It was multicolored, half red and half black with a small swirl in the middle. “Simply stupendous! In all my years of fine clothing lines, this is the first i’ve seen of such unique wonders.”

Rarity started to shine the light all around the area. “They’re everywhere in this area, absolutely amazing!”

Without a care in the world about her appearance, she started digging up jewel after jewel. Spike gasped at the sight. “Rarity your hair!”

Seems she didn’t hear him as she kept digging with jewels in her eyes. Spike nodded to himself and began looking around. He examined gem after gem saying things like, “No..nope...too dull..too small..”

Until finally after fifteen minutes of searching he spotted the perfect jewel on top of a small hill. It was a medium sized white jewel with a light blue outline and a rare purple diamond in the middle. “Wow...that...is...perfect!”

He hastily sped up the hill slipping a few times on the way, but he breathed a sigh of relief when he reached the top. “Finally..it’s all for Rarity.”

He slowly reached a claw out, inching closer and closer until the tip of his claw touched the marvelous gem. Wrapping both of his claws around the base, he proceeded to remove it from the dirt until something pricked his knuckle. “Ow! What just did that?”

He peered around the edge of the gem gradually when his and another green eye met. Spike quickly dashed behind the entirety of the jewel, panting hard. “What was that?! Maybe if I go around the other side…”

He turned to look around the other side but the eye was still there. “Nope bad idea. Maybe it’s some kind of green eyed monster waiting to eat me!...Wait...sounds like my voice is echoing.”

He and another figure promptly stepped out exchanging surprised looks in their eyes. Spike waved his hand and the figure did the same. He then jumped and it did the same. Spike slowly went and grabbed a rock on the ground. he juggled it a few times and threw it behind him, the figure did the same. Finally Spike went to touch the mysterious green eyed figure, as their fingers came into contact, he let out a sharp shriek and fell to his back. Oddly enough the strange shadow did exactly the same but instead let out a high pitched squeal. Spike stood up, thinking aloud. “Since when does a monster scream like a girl?”

Making his way towards the figure lying on the ground, the light slowly faded in revealing a very interesting sight. Simultaneously, both the figure and Spike responded, “Who..how..what?”

Spike began pointing to himself and back to the figure. “You..look just like...me.”

Spike began pointing to himself and back to the figure completely lost in the similarities. The female dragon stood up and extended a claw. “I guess introductions are in order, my name is Barbara.”

Spike stood motionless for a moment more but finally reached out to shake her claw. “Oh..I..I’m...Spike.”

“Haha why are you so nervous?”

Spike stared with glazed eyes. Man she’s…..beautiful...Another dragon who looks like me. It’s a dream come true, but can I really give up Rarity for her? Barbara began snapping in Spike’s face. “Spike...Spike.”

“Wha...What?! Oh sorry about that I just kinda...zoned out.”

“It’s ok..So what dragon family are you with considering we obviously don’t belong to the same family.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well every dragon has a family don’t they? Did you come over on the dragon migration too?”

“Well..not really..”

“So you’ve been here for a while?”

“Yea..”

“Well then where’s your family?”

“I kinda don’t have one.”

“Really? So have been a lone wolf since hatching.”

Spike sighed as he began to speak the words. “Well actually I was raised by...pony.”

“Wait what?”

“Twilight Sparkle, Alicorn princess, that’s who raised me.”

He shut his eyes and waited for insults to roll in but to his surprise Barbara actually gasped in shock. “You were raised by the Alicorn Princess Twilight?! That is so cool!”
Spike popped both eyes open and scratched his head. “What? But I thought?”

Barbara shook her head and grunted. “I’m not like all those other stubborn dragons, believe it or not, I had a couple of pony friends myself.”

“That’s awesome, finally a dragon who gets me.”

Spike jumped up and down for joy slipping about his eighth jump and falling flat on his face. “Ow…”

Barbara giggled at the sight and helped him to his feet. “Hehe, you’re pretty funny.”

Spike stared at her completely lost in emerald green eyes. Suddenly his trance was broken when a voice began calling out. “Spike dear! Are you out there?!”

Rarity climbed up the small hill to find spike and his look alike. “There you are Spikey. Oh! Who is this gem?”

Barbara giggled at the compliment and held out her claw. “My name is Barbara, nice to meet you.”

“What a cute name, I’m Rarity, charmed to meet you.”

She picked up Spike with her magic and put him on her back. “Unfortunately me and Spike have a lot of work to attend to, I do hope you come by Ponyville sometime.”

Spike began to sadly wave as Rarity walked away. Barbara with the same saddened expression waved goodbye and returned over the hill. Spike closed his eyes as Rarity continued walking down to Ponyville. I wonder if i’ll ever see her again. Those eyes..so mesmerizing. Ten minutes passed as Rarity let Spike off at Twilight’s castle. “I’ll call you over tomorrow dear to help with the designs, in the meantime, I have to get all this icky dirt off of me.”

Spike entered the castle and slowly made his way to his usual sleeping spot. As he lay there looking at the cold ceiling, he began to doze off, falling peacefully into sleep. That morning, everyone had finally returned from their mission. Twilight entered the castle to see Spike peacefully sleeping in the map room. She nudged him and he groggily sat up. “Twilight? You’re back. How was the mission?”

“A perfect success. And how was the Dragon Migration?”

Spike opened his mouth to answer but suddenly images flashed into his mind, that of Barbara. “It was…”

“Alright something’s up, tell good ol’ Twilight.”

Spike blushed for a moment and laid down as if he were being analyzed. “Well...me and Rarity went to go find some jewels after the migration, y'know cause I told her about the gems dragons drop, and something happened.”

“Like?”

“I kinda met another dragon there.”

“It’s not like last time where you ran off right?”

“No, no something totally different. Twilight...I met a dragon who looked just like me.”

“That’s amazing Spike, you found another one of your type of dragon species.”

“It wasn’t just our similar appearance that interested me. She was absolutely…..Gorgeous. Those beautiful green eyes and...we even have the same interest. Twilight...I don’t what to do...I mean she came over on the dragon migration so I’m not even sure i’ll see her again. I have so many feelings just swirling around inside of me and i’m not even gonna get a chance to show them.”

“Spike….It’s truly amazing that you’ve found somebody that you want to care about but...at this point it seems that you might have rushed your feelings just a bit. You’re better off just making sure this girl likes you the same way for now. Take the day off and process your emotions before you go rushing into this.”

Spike just laid there motionless lost in thought. I’ll never see her again...maybe I should leave it alone but...she is the one...my heart just felt like she was the one..I can’t ignore that...maybe I should run away with the dragons again. It would give me a chance to be with her. Spike didn’t give it a second thought. He began to pack a bag full of gems and slipped over his back. Before he could leave the map room however, Twilight flashed in front of him and levitated the backpack off of him. “Where do you think you’re going with this?”

“Umm…”

“Spike, there’s no need to run away.”

“How else will I see her?”

“Well you could always go to the front doors.”

“What is that supposed to mean.”

“It means you have a visitor Spike.”

Spike jumped up frantically, tripping nearly five times as he ran to the front doors. When he reached the castle doors, he dropped his excited attitude and fell into a brief depression. “Very funny Twilight.”

She flashed next him and tapped him on the head. “Open the door dummy.”

“Oh.”

He slowly swung the doors open bit by bit until those emerald green eyes came into his view. The door now stood fully open and in the doorway stood the young female dragon, Barbara. She waved giving him a small wink. Spike’s entire face turned completely red and suddenly it was like he was frozen in time. Twilight waved a hand in front of his face, sighed, and flashed a pillow under him. He fell over, engulfed by his shy personality. Barbara laughed as she was invited in and Spike was dragged into the adjacent room from the doors. The room contained guest worthy standards, a red velvet couch, a bookshelf filled with books, and a red velvet rug. Twilight plopped Spike down on the couch and put a gem down next to him. Spike instantly perked up and devoured the gem. “That was an awesome gem Twilight. Oh! Hey Barbara…..Barbara!”

She giggled at him. “Are you gonna faint again?”

“No I think i’m good now.”

Twilight rolled her eyes and left the room. Spike of course tried to follow her only to find the door locked. Barbara motioned him to the couch and patted the spot next to her. He sat down and then came an awkward silence. Spike began to try and break the silence. “Barbara I….”

“Do you like me?!”

Spike just looked at her, gazing into her eyes as she waited for the answer. He slowly nodded and both their gazes were returned to the ground. “So…..you like me too?”

Out of the corner of his eye, he could see her nod. She turned to him and grabbed his hand. “So do you want to….go….y'know...out.”

“But the dragon migration.”

“My family made a home nearby, I convinced them to. We’re not apart anymore, we can see each other from now on.”

Spike started to nod but suddenly his face turned red once again and he fell over. Barbara smiled at his reaction and picked him up. “I’ll take that as a yes.”

She knocked on the door and Twilight unlocked it. “I’ll be back in a couple of days so be ready to amaze me.” She exited the room as Twilight entered. She laughed at the frozen dragon on the ground and put him on her back. “Nice job stud, you got yourself a girlfriend. Just don’t faint on the date.”
