Moondancer's Identity Dilemma
Chapter 2: Girls just wanna have fun
Previous Chapter Next ChapterAs I walked outside, I was immediately met with stares from ponies of all genders and ages. I had to admit, having such attention did feel good, though at the same time it also felt a little bit unnerving. I'd be able to tune them out eventually, but I'm fairly certain that it would take a while. Oh well, experiments always did require time above anything else.
Right now, I was just collecting data to process internally by simply walking around in a completely new look. My tail swayed rather sensually as I took each step forward, making myself known among the other Canterlot goers here and there. My face felt hot as I felt the perverted gaze of so many different guys eyeing me wearing such an outfit. I'm honestly not sure how it is the others can wear things like this and not have to hear nothing but their own hearts beating so hard, nor how they could withstand such pressuring stares from everyone. It felt as if I were in an entirely different world right now.
After what felt like hours of mindless wandering, I eventually came across a late-night restaurant with an open exterior patio and gave myself a seat, placing my hands onto my lap and just staring down at the table. I could still feel my entire face burning as I struggled to keep myself sane, though my body just kept on twitching awkwardly, unable to stand still. At this rate, I may just consider going back to Minuette's house and-
"Welcome to the Late Night Bite, how may I serve you?" said a waitress' voice, shocking me back into reality with a little gasp as I suddenly felt my heartbeat become deafeningly loud, my breathing becoming ragged and my eyes practically bugging out. I had to take a moment to catch my breath properly, looking over the woman currently waiting on me to make an order for something as she set the menu down before me.
"S-sorry, I-I'm gonna need a minute or two to get settled in" I told her, noting how she shrugged and smiled at me.
"Don't worry about it, you've got all the time in the world here, and it isn't just to decide on what to order. One thing I love is new people moving into town" she answered before walking away.
It took a little moment for what she said to really register in my mind. She had assumed I had only just moved into town. Was it because of strange appearance, or was it because of how I looked as though I was out of place in Canterlot? Had my change really been that drastic? Did I really give off that kind of feeling with the nervous I acted? My head felt as though it were spinning as I suddenly stood up and then immediately made a run for it, only to wind up bumping into something hard and wound up flat on my flanks with a little grunt.
"Oh dear, are you alright, Miss?" I suddenly heard someone ask me. The voice sounded incredibly smooth and deep, masculine in all ways, even being accented by the familiar Trottingham accent. I looked up and found a pure white earth stallion with straight, blond hair going down to his middle back kneeling down in front of me, looking stunned at what he was looking at, which I soon realized was me.
"Oh, uh.... I'm fine" I eventually managed to choke out, looking into his golden eyes as they kept on looking into my own. He gave a small smile and offered his hand once again, so I took it and he lifted me up as he stood.
"I was so surprised at how you suddenly bumped into me like that. It honestly feels like something out of an old fashioned TV show" he chuckled, his accent being as rich and thick as most of the Canterlot elite that I had to meet with on occasion. "It certainly is surprising to see a girl such as you in a place like this. My apologies for sounding rude, but I would like to have thought from your dress, you'd be more interested in night clubs" he continued.
"Oh, W-well, I just put this on for the first time today" I told him, not being able to look him in the eye for some reason or another. I had expected him to be either a snob or a totally perverted slimeball. This was completely different though.
"If I'm not being too forward, you certainly do look amazing in it. Pink is an excellent color on you" he then said, his tone absolutely full of charm. I went and played with my hair a little and gave a tiny smile, wanting to accept the compliment, even though I still had butterflies about such a thing happening. "Would you perhaps like to take a seat and get to know one another? I'd be more than willing to pay the check myself?" he offered. Considering I forgot my wallet at Minuette's house along with my purse and other belongings, I nodded, soon sitting down at the table I was just at.
"Seeing as how I had completely forgotten to introduce myself earlier, I figure it's only appropriate now. My name is Morning Sun" he introduced himself, suddenly putting me on the spot as I had to think for a moment. Should I tell him my actual name, or should I use an alias? He was looking at me, making my face go hot and my breathing start to become heavy. I gulped heavily and looked him dead in the eye.
"M-my name is.... Cupid Moon" I eventually spat out, an awkward silence soon following as I had to come to terms with the new alias I had created for myself. "Cupid Moon"? I don't know what the hell made me think of something so stupid, so-
"That name seems to fit you rather well, I'd say"
....So convincing?
"So, what brings such a lovely flower such as yourself out upon the town tonight?" he asked me, his tone as suave and charming as before.
"Well, I had simply decided to go out for a little girl's night. I-I mean, it just felt right and all, so I figured, why not?" I said. I honestly don't think I'd ever sounded so stupid a day in my life. Me, Moondancer, incredibly adept student and scholar, 4.0 GPA, with an IQ of 140, suddenly struggling to even so much as find the right words to say in a casual conversation? There was no telling what my parents would think of such a thing.
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a girl's night typically include being around many of your girl friends?"
"W-well, I had never gone out with them before, so I'm trying things out on my own tonight first" I quickly answered, starting to lose my cool again as the waitress from earlier came back with a smirk on her face.
"Decide on what you want yet?" she asked, giving what appeared to be a knowing look, but despite what she was thinking, this guy wasn't my boyfriend and I wasn't on a date. Still, she gave that look and my face went all red again. Thankfully, nobody would be able to recognize me in this current state, especially with how I wasn't wearing my signature glasses.
"We'll have two of the usual, Hazel" Sun suddenly said, making me do a slight double-take.
"Don't worry, it's something basic and tasty, you'll love it" Hazel soon added as she smiled and took the menus off with her, her tail brushing along Sun's muzzle rather affectionately.
"So, I take it you must be the socially awkward type to have a girl's night out by yourself. Not to worry, I'm socially awkward myself, though only in the 'always at the wrong place at the wrong time' sense" Sun chuckled, grinning to himself with his eyes closed. Admittedly, he did look fairly handsome, and I did like the way he was able to get to calm down enough and hear him out, but there was still something about him that felt.... off. Then again, I'm fairly certain I was the off one, using magic to make myself look different, dressing like a slit, and walking around drinking in the perverted stares I got, so I don't really think I can talk on it.
"Well, I guess that's good to hear. I don't usually do this sort of thing though, I'm usually the type to sit home and read" I said, feeling a bit more calm to the point where I could start making more concrete sentences. Progress is still progress nonetheless. I actually smiled to myself as I blushed a but, but as the saying goes, all good things come to an end at some point, and in this case, I was referring to Lemon Hearts, Twinkleshine and Minuette walking down the corner, right towards us.
My eyes went wide and I practically had a small heart attack as I suddenly panicked. I knew for certain that they'd recognize my face if they saw me, and if they saw the clothes I was wearing, they'd never let me live it down. Sun was barely managing to entertain himself by saying a few things about himself from his youth, but all things considered, I had other things on my mind.
Every little step forward brought them closer to me, and I knew for certain that I would need to think fast if I were to find a way out of this. I looked around, thought of different spells I could use, but nothing that worked without drawing more attention to myself came to mind. In a fit of desperation, I suddenly grabbed Sun's muzzle and forced his lips onto my own, dragging him over the table as they walked right by and made a chorus of 'Ooh's as they passed.
"Looks like we aren't the only ones having fun tonight"
"I think I have the same thing in my closet"
"Looks pretty good on her"
It took them a while to pass, but at the very least. they didn't realize who I was. That much was certainly good. Unfortunately, I now had to deal with the stallion I nearly sucked the face off of.
"Well, um... That was certainly a first for me" Sun said plainly as his face flushed on account of my actions. Not surprising. "Although, if you needed to avoid being seen by your friends, you could've simply warned me and I would've done something to help" he then joked, chuckling at it with his incredibly charming accent still in schmooze mode. At this point, I think something in my mind actually managed to snap and I started to go crazy from it as I laughed at it before I could've sworn steam blew out the sides of my head as I slunk into my seat a little as Hazel returned with two bowls.
"Looks like you bagged another keeper, Sunny" Hazel joked as she set the bowls down onto the table.
"First real time I think I've been assaulted in such a way before" Sun mused.
"Second, I once had you doing that thing with your tongue on the stairs" Hazel reminded as Sun blushed and soon coughed into his hand, which of course had a handkerchief on it.
"Well, Miss Moon, I believe you were about to tell me some things about yourself?" Sun said, wanting to get things back on track.
I rubbed my arms awkwardly as I looked elsewhere for a small moment. I really wished that I could tell him about the real me a bit more, but I wasn't sure how well he would take my actual life. I thought about it for just a short moment before eventually coming up with just the right thing to say.
"Well, I really love finding new places to hang out, meeting new people and learning what I can. Really, I just plain like being around people" I told him, not completely lying since I actually did enjoy doing that before Twilight looked away. The sound of a pepper grinder going at it suddenly caught my attention as I noticed how there were fresh, crisp salads before me.
"That certainly sounds rather nice. I for one enjoy the company of good friends as well, especially in terms of those with things to do" Sun soon said before digging right into his salad. I soon decided to levitate some of the foliage into my mouth and felt surprised with the excellent crunch it made as the flavors practically danced atop my tongue.
"Told you" Hazel said with a wink as she soon walked away. I mainly just focused on eating and didn't worry about anything else right now. Sun and I were focused on eating at the moment, there was nobody else I knew or that knew me around, so I could finally just relax and maybe enjoy myself a little.
I looked over at Sun for a moment and really started to drink in the details about him. He wasn't too terribly muscular, but still probably had the earth pony strength needed. His coat and mane were really clean and shiny, so that probably meant that he took good care of himself. He was also pretty charming, a little funny, and certainly handsome. Although, I'm not too sure he'd like the real me as much as the me right here.
"Oh, do I have something my face?" I heard him ask. I had to think about it a bit before my entire face went red, suddenly realizing that I must've been staring at his face the whole time, and for a little while now too. My heart had only just calmed down, yet now, it was back to being fast and unhealthy as I struggled to think of anything to properly say.
"It-it's fine, you look perfectly fine!" I wound up saying rather awkwardly as he just smiled and chuckled peacefully at me.
"You know, you really are quite the adorable one" he wound up saying, making my heart flutter as I suddenly felt an unusual buzzing going on in my waistline, where I then went and remembered I brought my cell phone. I picked it up out of the thin pocket of my skirt and read the incoming text message from Minuette.
'Hey girl, we're coming back early tonight. Clubs were a total bust tonight, not a guy around that wasn't busy with somepony else' it said, making my eyes go wide as I suddenly stood up.
"I'm so, so sorry, but I've gotta get going now!" I yelled to Sun before running away.
"Wait, Miss Moon, when will I get to...." I heard Sun yell out, only for me to ignore him as I kept on running back to Minuette's house.
I managed to make it inside and then immediately struggled to get out of Minuette's clothes, stumbling onto the bathroom floor in all my stupor before getting up and looking into the mirror, where I flared my horn and soon got to work in changing myself back to my normal appearance. I opened my eyes and felt relieved to see my old face again, putting the glasses back on and getting dressed in my usual sweater before stepping out, putting Minuette's clothes back into her closet and then going to the living room.
"Moondancer, we're home" Minuette called out as she and the others came back inside and sat down on the couch with a bunch of groans, everyone looking annoyed.
"Tonight was a total bust" Lemon Hearts complained as Twinkleshine just sighed.
"Guess it would've been better to stay home and watch TV like you were, huh?" Minuette asked, to which I merely nodded to.
"Just another evening" I told them all as I smiled carefully thinking to myself, reflecting upon my evening.
